[Blind-Computing] Computer restarting strangely-Win 7
I have been using the Jaws 13 for the past week or so to avoid the problems with Jaws 14 crashing Windows Explorer. I leave my computer on at night to run the MSE scan and because it has been failing to start at all sometimes. I have the computer set to start Jaws 14 with the new voices automatically after starting. So this morning I was surprised to find Jaws 14 greeting me. I would have thought that Microsoft had installed an update and restarted but there was no message with this and my Inbox was open as was the last page I had been using in Internet Explorer. My computer is not set to restore the open programs upon starting. So I went to check my MSE to see if the scan had run this morning and the last one was yesterday morning at 1:00 a.m. No one here at the house did anything to the computer as both are computer illiterate and would not even know how to turn on the computer much less activate the mouse touchpad. So am I out of line in thinking that my computer might have been invaded from without? MSE is not much of a security program, I think. I am running the scan with it now and will run Malware bites when it is finished. How can I get back my peace of Mind? Any thoughts as to what happened? Hi Tom, In addition to what David has said, you can also use the up down arrow keys to adjust the Jaws reading speed in smaller increments than the Page up page down keys. If you don't run Jaws from the system tray, Alt + Tab to your Jaws window, press the Alt key to open the Jaws menu, press the letterO, for options, press the letter V, for voices. Hope this helps. Hi, Thanks for your email and support. This is exactly what I tried first, and it works wonders on all the pages except the one in question. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to share the web address of the page I am having trouble with. The page in question is on our companies intranet, it requires authorized access, hence the limitation in sharing the URL. So far I have been using sighted help in my office to get my job accomplished on that page, which needs to be done once every month. We call it the time sheet entry, some kind of billing tool to keep record of man hours allocated to a project. I think using the jaws cursor also helps to a certain extent. I am not saying that I can't do the job at all, but would have preffered if JAWS could announce the column headings, in this case they contain the day of the week and the date for each column in the row below we need to fill out 9 hours, hard to tell if that day was a company off, if you dont get the date announced.
