[Blind-Computing] Needing Bible Program For My Computer

2012-12-14 Thread Donnie Parrett
I do not have internet in my office at church and I am needing to download a
Bible program on a thumb drive and take it to church and install it on my
computer. This Bible program will need to work well with JAWS. Does anyone
have some info that would help me?

Thanks,
Donnie

Hi Rich,

The path you need to follow for Windows XP home would be as follows;

C:\documents and settings\user name\application data\microsoft\templates
Important: note that where I have put in User name you must use whatever
your profile name is such as Rich or Richard or something ike that as an
example.
Now when you get into templates look for Normal.dot and delete it.

Paul.

 Hi Richard,

You could go into the following area if using windows 7 and delete the
 Normal template.
Note that where I have placed user name this should be your user profile
 name.
 C:\users\user name\appdata\roaming\microsoft\templates

Then open up Word again and see if it has cleared the issues you are
 having.

Hi all. I have XP home and 14.0.

In word, sometimes when I use the up or down arrow to read a line, I
hear, something like, 72 points or another number.
It seems to happen if there is a space before the sentence.
If I use control arrow I don't hear the point message.

How do you turn this feature off?

 Another question.
I have had many strange issues with word. For example, it may not load

Or, it may suggest starting up in safe mode.
Or, when reading by line, it may read the line twice.

Is there a way to search if something is corrupted.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Needing Bible Program For My Computer

2012-12-14 Thread Mark Torgerson
Hi Donny,
Well, the best bible programs I use are the online ones of course. I
had a line on an off line bible system a few years back. However, with all
the extra reference books it ran about $1400 or $1800. SO, that was out side
my budget range. The only other stand alone bible I know of is called
ESword. I am guessing one could make a thumb drive version. However, I am
not sure how JAWS friendly it was.

God bless,
Mark

Would it be better to uninstall 14 in the add/remove programs area then

Really challenging, I am also given to assume that this is not a space, it
might be a tab. If tab indication is on it might be announcing it. But I
tried this on my computer, no such thing happened.

Try this too:
Hit Insert and the J key to bring up the JAWS context menu, Under
Utilities,
hit enter on Settings Center. Tab out of the edit box and scroll to where
it

says Text Processing.

Use the right arrow to open the tree, and scroll to Speech And Sounds
Schemes. Again use the right arrow to open the tree and check under Active
Speech and Sounds Scheme, it should be listed as classic. If not use the
spacebar to make the change. Tab till you get to the OK button and hit
enter.

My last resort would be to repair JAWS, from the set up file, just make
sure

that your settings are not changed when doing the repair. Launch the setup
file and in the installation dialog box you should have an option to
repair.

I found the format section in tree view.
I scrolled down to test some of the settings but to no avail.
I still, for example, hear 72 points or 75 points before JAWS reads a line
when using the up or down arrow if the sentence has a space in front of
it.

Thanks.

Open word and hit the following keys:
Insert + letter V, this should bring up a dialog box for JAWS settings
for

the word application. Tab out of the edit box, use the arrow keys to
scroll
down to any thing that says formatting use the space bar to change
settings
under this option and tab to the OK button. This should help, if not
write
back to me and we will figure out what can be done. I am on JAWS 13 by
the

way, but it should not matter!

[Blind-Computing] Directing downloads to specific folders

2012-12-14 Thread Pedro Romero
Hello all.
How does one using Jaws 12, IE 8 and Windows 7 direct downloads to specific
folders?
And, if she changes folder designation, will all subsequent downloads go to
this folder or is there a quick way to change their destination?
Thanks.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Directing downloads to specific folders

2012-12-14 Thread Mike B.
Hi Pedro,

Below are a couple of notes addressing this question.

From: Lauren Simmons
Now for your IE downloads
configuration...

To configure where your downloads go:
Note: In Windows7, by default your downloads go to the following
folder: C:\Users\Your name\Downloads. You can quickly open this folder
by using Run dialogue and typeing the following: downloads
1. To configure where your downloads are saved create a folder
somewhere on your computer and name it something like
GreatDownloads.
2. Go to a website such as
www.blindcooltech.com
 and initiate the
download process.
3. When asked where you want to save the file, since you are on the
efit field containing the name of the file, press shift tab twice or
until you locate the first tree view which will likely be on
Computer.
Note: This is a tree view which means you will have to down arrow to a
drive or folder then right arrow to open it.
4. using the trree view work your way over to where you would like
your files to be downloaded. In this case, the name of the downloads
folder you just created which is GreatDownloads. You can press enter
on the folder and tab once to look inside and make sure you see the
files that should be in that specific folder.
5. After you have found your desired download folder tab to Save or
press Alt + s to begin downloading and saving the file.
6. After the download has completed work your way over to your
GreatDownloads folder and confirm that the file has been downloaded to
this location.
7. To be 100% certain all downloads will be placed in the
GreatDownloads folder, go to another website and download a small file
then confirm it has been saved to the GreatDownloads folder.

Tips:
1. From now on, when you are in the process of saving a file, and you
are in the Internet Explorer 8 download dialogue, You can press the
following keyboard command to quickly determine where your file is
going to be saved: Alt + letter d.
If the file is not being saved in your desired folder, follow the
steps above to configure a desired download folder once again.
2. Whenever in a download dialogue, you can quickly press Alt + S to
save a file.

LS

From:
Gene
Here is one way to do what you want:

Each main new step starts on a new line.
Once you are in the edit field where you can change the file name, shift
tab twice.
You are now in a list of folders and files that you work with in the same
way as if you were in My Computer.
For those who may be wondering, you shift tab twice in Windows 7 but only
once in Windows XP to get to the folders and files list I am discussing.
Find and open the folder where you want the file to be saved.
Don't move at all with the arrow keys in the folder after you open it.
Tab twice to get back to the edit field and press enter. The download will
start.

Internet Explorer will remember where you saved the file. It, as well as
many other programs remembers the last place you download something. In
future, you don't have to go through this procedure again. Now, once you
are in the edit field where you can change the filename, just press enter
The download will begin and the file will be placed where you specified.

Gene

Hope these helped.
Take care.
Mike

Re: [Blind-Computing] how do i restore my pc back 1 week?

2012-12-14 Thread Mike B.
Hi Tom,

Below are a couple of notes I have saved regarding your question:

Restoring your computer using System Restore, and Jaws.
This procedure was used successfully with Jaws 6.2, on an eMachine computer,
with an Intel 2.8ghz processor, 256mb ram, and 80gb hard drive, with the
display resolution set at 50% of the maximum available screen resolution,
and color pallet set at highest 32 bit.
1. From the system restore window, choose, restore my computer to an earlier
time, and tab to the next button, and press enter.
2. Use control home, to move to the top of the page, then arrow downuntil
you hear the current month and year. while arrowing down the page, you will
hear instructions for restoring your computer.
3. While the cursor is positioned on the current month, shift tab, and you
will be on the previous month button. if you want to see the restore points
in the previous month, press enter on the previous month button.
4. Follow the above steps to locate the month from which you want to select
a restore point from. Each time you select the previous month, or next
month, you can use the up and down arrow keys to move thru the text on the
selected page.
5. Once you have selected the month you want, from the available choices,,
arrow down the page until you hear the day of the week you want. This is
where a simple NotePad file of your restore points comes in handy. After
making a restore point, if you record this imformation in a file, you can
refer to it to see the exact date you want to restore to. This makes it
quicker to locate a restore point in the restore point calendar.
6. place your cursor on a day of the week, and then tab until you hear Jaws
read a restore point, and from here you can use your up and down arrow keys
to see the list of restore points on the page.
7. once you have found the restore point you want to use, tab to the next
button, and press enter.
8. Here you should get a confirmation page, so, start at the top of the
page, and arrow down to read the imformation.
9. If you are satisfied with your selection, then tab to the next button and

Here is more information.

I said in my last message that System Restore in XP uses a somewhat
nonstandard interface. It appears the interface causes later versions of
JAWS to work differently with it than earlier versions.

I don't know how much you know about System Restore. My Accessible World
presentation gives a lot of information about System Restore for those not
familiar with the utility and advises on how to use it in ways that will
avoid possible problems such as unintentionally uninstalling programs.

If you don't want that much information, you can skim my presentation
untuil you get to the parts you want to listen to. But I'll provide some
information that may allow you to use it with your current version of JAWS
in this message.

Your version of JAWS may not allow you to activate certain buttons. You
can do so, however, if you do the following:
If you are at a button you can't activate, turn off the JAWS cursor with
JAWS key z. Then tab or shift tab until you are on the button you want
and press the space bar. Then turn on the JAWS cursor again with the same
command, JAWS key z. You can now look at the page to see what has changed
as a result of you activating the button.

Here is a very brief partial description of how to run a restore point.
Open System Restore.
Issue the command alt n, the short cut command that takes you to the
second screen, where you select a restore point. the first screen is
introductory and its purpose is to present information to the new user.
Once you have issued alt n and are on the second screen, move to the
bottom of the screen with control end.
Move up about three times using control up arrow. That will get you to
about where you want to be much faster than just up arrowing.
Look around a bit with the up and down arrow keys. Do you see a restore
point? Is it the one you want to work with? If not, then turn off the
virtual pc cursor with JAWS key z and start tabbing or shift tabbing.
You will find a button that says show the previous day.
Press the space bar.
Turn on the virtual pc cursor again with JAWS key z.
Move to the bottom of the screen again and once again, control up arrow
three times.
Now find the text telling you about the restore point or points available
for the day you are on.

 9. If you are satisfied with your selection, then tab to the next button and

press enter. The system restoration should begin.
 10. Do not disturb the computer during this process, your machine should
re-boot when the restore operation has been completed.
There may be a restore confirmation screen presented to you when the machine

[Blind-Computing] Desktop / Start Menu Shortcuts For XP Users

2012-12-14 Thread Mike B.
Hi All,

Below is a link from David's website for many shortcuts that can be placed
on the desktop or start menu. These are found under the Shortcuts Heading
on the Tips Tricks page.

Shortcuts

The shortcuts in this section are for areas in Windows that can be accessed
from the run command, or are a pain to navigate to otherwise. These
shortcuts
can save a little time accessing these areas, especially for those who have
typing difficulties for one reason or another.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
