I imagine you're doing it using windows explorer first of all. Simply
navigate back to the cartridge, focus on the folder and hit your delete key.

[Blind-Computing] Buying A Personal NLS Player

2013-02-27 Thread Mark Torgerson
Hi
Some years ago back when NLS books were on tape, I bought a recorder that
played and recorded in NLS format. Now, that they have moved to the digital
age, I am wondering if it is possible to buy a unit that would allow me to use
my computer to download the books from the library website transfer them to a
portable unit, and yet still be able to record on the portable unit? It seems
to me that having a portable recorder would still be handy. Yet I would like to
be able to transfer the recordings that I make back to the computer for editing
and storage.
 Any ideas are appreciated.

Re: [Blind-Computing] I need help with my Gmail account please?

2013-02-27 Thread Mark Torgerson

Hi
I am not sure if you are accessing your Gmail online or through an
E-Mail program. It sounds like you may have created a filter. Usually if one
creates a filter it asks which types of mail you want to filter, and then
asks where you want the filtered messages sent. You can even have messages
automatically deleted.
Another possibility is that you may have told your E-Mail program to
make the deleted items folder your primary folder. I recall seeing a setting
on one of my E-Mail programs where I could select a new folder for my main
folder. Presumably one can choose the deleted items folder as their new main
folder. Smile.

I hope these ideas may be of some help.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Listening to SiriusXM Radio on PC

Well, sort of. It is very difficult to listen on-line, but you can do it.
Once you log in, you can choose a channel, but then you may not be able to
pick another channel by number, because that edit box disappears for some
reason. Most of the buttons on the on-line player are unlabeled. My advice
would be to use the Sirius XM App, if he happens to have an iPod or iPhone.
Much more user friendly, although even it has to be customized.

 Here we go.

 1. Connect your usable cartridge to the computer with it's USB cord. I use
the short cord that goes to my little digital recorder because it is the
same kind of cord. It has a big end to plug into the cartridg and a little
USB end to plug into the computer. The characters on both ends of the cord
are facing up. The cartridge is faceing up the way you would put it in the
player. I'm putting this description down in case there is someone who
hasn't seen the way this thing goes together.

. Go to the desktop. Arrow down to my computer and enter.

 3. Arrow down to the drive the cartridge is plugged into. In my case, I
have local, CD drive and the burner below it. That is E in my case. When I
plug my cartridge in, it says F.

 4. Enter on the drive letter your cartridge is plugged into. There will be
a list of the books on the cartridge. I start at the top of the list, hold
down the control key and hit the spacebar to select the ones I want to
delete. That way I don't have to select them without skipping any. I can
arrow down and skip one or two in between, if I wish. Holding the left
shift key down while you arrow down will select them in the order they are
in the list. If I want to get rid of them all at once, which I have done
sometimes, I just hit control A, which selects them all to be deleted or
 moved.

 5. After selecting books to be deleted or moved, hit the delete key and it
will send them to the recycle bin. I hold down shift and the delet key so
that it will bypass the recycle bin. If I want a book again I can download
them, anyhow. This whole thing applies to any thumb or external drive. You
plug them in and do it the same way.

I hope this helps anybody who is beginning with downloading bard books. I
have a folder for every letter of the alphabet and one for a music
instruction folder. I put all the authors in their separate folders. I am
collecting more and more books so that they don't have to be mailed to me.
I have lots now. I love my empty cartridges. I didn't have a thumb drive
at the time I bought them.

 God bless. Excuse the novel.

[Blind-Computing] Flash

2013-02-27 Thread Deb Caldbeck
Using XP SP3, JAWS 12. Was installing Flash 11 today. It got to the 50%
mark and then told me to close the following programs. I closed IE 8 and
Outlook. I then retried, and it insisted I close the program. Gave me a
graphic number but not the name of a program. When I hit insert, alt,
delete it says the install Flash is the only thing running. Do I have to
unload JAWS? Never have had to before.

Mark

Hi There, I am having problems with my Gmail account. Instead of the mail
going to the inbox, all go to the trash box. I was trying the other day to
set a new signature and I notice that after that, it started to behave that
way. I am using Outlook 2010, Windows 7 and Jaws 13. I think that I messed
up a setting but I don't know what it is. All the help will be greatly
appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

Jaws help would most likely be a lot more useful, but, the commands I
commonly use are page up and down to change pages, and ctrl + shift + N to
go to a specific page - and that one also lets you easily enough see which
page you're currently focused on.

Re: [Blind-Computing] excel printing

2013-02-27 Thread inthaneelf
hi,

I at one time was fully sighted, and formatting is still difficult for me
even having seen most of the things that can be done!

understanding some things about the program helps, while other things are
needed, but which of the choices are needed depends on the people your
working with and for.

a good way to get experience with what can! be done is to take a class at a
local college or junior college in, well either excel, or most often they
have a computer 101 class, which will have an introduction to the4 basic
office tools, word, excel, PowerPoint and access.

if you talk with the instructor, before the class starts and take it as a
C/NC ( credit/no credit, meaning not for a grade but only for passing it and
the points toward a college degree) and tell them what your working on, many
will be willing to work with you as much as they can (good to ask the school
your paying to show you this for some tutor, and disabled students center
help as well!)

if you have a friend at work, you can ask them about what they think you
should do and I can probably tell you how to set it up

the big thing is a two fold project, one find out what they want, and then
find out how to create it

you can contact me off list for more information,

another hint, if you do not change anything, you have a total of about 15
letters per cell and 4 cells across the page before things start getting out
of shape, that's 60 symbols in the whole row of 4 cells, of information, if
you do not alter them with the formatting menu, anything more and we need to
start changing things.

Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] excel printing

Hello,

This is kind of difficult to answer for any blind computer user. You might
want to look at the page layout of your excel sheet. If it's portrait it
means it's vertical in layout. If it's landscape, it's horizontal in layout.
Printing a worksheet also depends on how many columns you have filled in the
sheet, there is a difference on how many cells are actually visible and are
actually there. The key combination Insert + F1 will give you the summary of
the worksheet in focus.

Also under the view menu, you can choose how the worksheet can be seen,
printlayout etc. While printing you are given a dialog box that allows one
to print the current page or selected page like 1 to 3 etc. Users are also
given the option to print the selected area, for example if you have
selected cells a1:f112 all the matter in those selected cells will be
printed.

Note: Each worksheet has gridlines visible to the user, it represents cells
on the worksheet. But while printing these gridlines are not printed unless
you have provided the cells with a thin grid line border. Giving your
printout a table like look.

The safest suggestion I can offer here is take a sighted friend with you and
practice the art of printing again and again. I sincerely apologize for not
being of any ground breaking help but this is the best I can do at this
point in time.
