Hi Kimsan;

After you put a file into your Public folder don't close Dropbox.
You need
the main folder to be open so the file will upload to the Dropbox
server.
If you want to share a particular file / folder with someone, look
in your
system tray and make sure that the Dropbox thinga aJig says that all
files
are up to date. If it doesn't say All files are up to date
before you
copy your shortcut link for this file the person you send the link
to will
get an error message when they click on the link to try and
download the

file.

 Hi Kimsan

 Getting started with Dropbox
 Welcome to Dropbox!

Unlike other programs, Dropbox doesn't have a complicated
interface to
learn. It's built right into your desktop! Here's how to get
started:

Step 1: Drag and drop any file or folder into your Dropbox folder.

Step 2: Once your file/folder is inside your Dropbox folder, the
program
immediately starts syncing it to our secure servers. Once this has
finished, the file's icon is marked with a green check. Your file is
now
safely backed up online and also accessible from the Dropbox website.

Step 3: Install Dropbox (http://www.getdropbox.com/install) on other
computers you use, and they'll also receive a copy of the files
you've

put
 in your Dropbox.

That's it!Now that Dropbox is watching your file, any changes you
make
will sync up instantly and automatically. This gives you the
freedom to
work on any computer you choose. For more help adding files to
Dropbox,

 Using the Public folder.
The Public Folder lets you easily share single files in your Dropbox.
Any
file in you put in this folder gets its own Internet link so that you
can
share it with others-- even non-Dropbox users! These links work
even if

 your computer's turned off.

Step 1: Drop a file into the Public folder.

Step 2: Right-click/control-click this file, then choose Dropbox
Copy
Public Link. This copies the Internet link to your file so that
you can

 paste it somewhere else.

That's it! You can now share this file with others: just paste
the link

you

into e-mails, instant message conversations, blogs, etc.!

If you'd like more help with sharing files, head here:
 http://www.getdropbox.com/help/16

 Happy Dropboxing!
 - The Dropbox Team

Note: You can only link to actual files within your Public Folder,
not

to
 folders.
 Hope this helps. Take care.

It works with Windows and the Mac. When you first connect the player to
your USB port, the installer for the Coby Media Manager will run. You
don't have to use the software if you don't want to. You can simply copy
and past using Windows explorer. Also remember to turn off the player

Ooh I can't answer that one since I don't own one. Also, you can
purchase the Coby MP200G MP3 player from J and R Music and Computing,
but since you are wanting to play movies, that player doesn't support
that. It only plays MP3 and WMA files. Sorry I couldn't help.

Hi
Magic Jack is an adapter that plugs in to a USB port and then you can
plug your standard house phone in to the adapter. It allows one to make
calls over the internet. A person usually has free long distance in their
own country. The magic jack costs just under $2 a month in the United
States.

Steve the economy shipping is $2.95. They'll ship you the unit in the

I got it yesterday. Note that if you buy it, the blister pack is a pain

According to Coby, a single AAA battery should provide up to 8 hours of

Unfortunately, the original blind accessible Zen Stone has been

which I have been raving about, is very similar to the original Zen

and with 2gb of storage, has twice the memory capacity. It lacks a

for me. Can't wait to get it! One note though. It works best with IE
8 to order from there site. She had some problems using Firefox. JAWS
wasn't reading the buttons to check out and a couple of other ones I
can't remember.

I just received my Coby MP200 MP3 player from JR, and it is truly simple
and totally blind accessible. On top of the unit is the earphone jack into
which you plug the included earbuds. The front panel has 5 discrete buttons
arranged in a vertical column. From top to bottom, the buttons are skip
forward, play/pause/power, skip backward, volume up and volume down.
Pressing and holding the second button from the top for 5 seconds turns the
unit on, and pressing and holding it again for 5 seconds turns it off.
That's all there is to it. The bottom of the unit has a USB connector that
plugs directly into a USB port, although a separate USB cable is also
included. You just plug it into your PC and copy and paste the MP3 files
you want to download. Just install the included AAA battery and you're good
to go. The sound quality is surprisingly good, at least using a better pair
of earbuds than the included ones. There is absolutely no learning curve,
and no sighted assistance is required to use it. The included software,
which I have not tried yet, is fully JAWS accessible. With 2gb of memory,
it can hold up to 1,000 songs. This is probably the best blind accessible
MP3 deal ever. It is still available from JR for $10 with free shipping,
but they probably won't last much longer at that price. They make wonderful
stocking stuffers. The hardest part of using this gizmo is getting it out
of the plastic blister pack which requires a heavy duty scissors to cut
open.

There is no longer a link for Preferences on Google. Instead it is called
Search Settings. The page that opens is easy to navigate by headings. I
usually just go to the heading for Number of results. I like 50 results
since I don't like having to going to lots of pages and getting my
 bearings
each time. I also like each result to open in a new window which is the
 next
 topic in that heading.
Be sure to save your settings.
For some reason these settings become erased now and then and I have to go
 back to reset them.
 Hope this helps.

Best of luck.
Most of the forums on the web that I have read have been sceptical about
relying on Windows firewall though I understand that the Vista version is
supposed to be better than the XP version.
I guess the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Clearly this Trojan has
breached your current defences . At least NOD32 has detected it once it has
got past your current firewall setup.

Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] hello and need help getting rid of a trojan

The reason a Trojan cannot be deleted is probably that it is being
 loaded
at startup . You could try putting this Trojan name into a Google Search
 to
get definite instructions on removal but I can suggest the following. Try

 .

There are normally 2 ways of coping with Trojans .

 1. Run Nod 32 in windows safe Mode. Safe Mode is a special kind of
windows that can be loaded where startup drivers, including hopefully your
Trojan are not loaded. I am not sure how this is done in vista but in XP I
think I recall you enter Safe Mode by pressing F8 repeatedly as the
 computer
boots up. Your problem however, is that Jaws will not work in safe Mode
 as
the internal sound driver will not be loaded and there are other special
 drivers Jaws relies upon.
I saw a post recently on an NVDA list saying that you could however run
 the
free NVDA Screen reader in Safe Mode. To do this you need a portable
version of NVDA and an external USB headset or external USB Soundcard.
Apparently these USB sound cards or headsets will load in Safe Mode. I
 have
not tested this out. It may be easier for you to just get sighted help to
run NOD32 in Safe Mode however.

 2. The other method I suggest is that you try installing super
antispyware. This has a claim that it is able to remove Trojans . What is
will do, if it finds the Trojan, is inform you that your system needs to
 be
restarted. Super Antispyware will then try to remove the Trojan as
 windows
starts up before it gets a chance to load.

Of the 2 methods I would try to use Nod 32 in Safe Mode first as it has
already shown it can detect this Trojan. This gives a high chance that it
should be able to definitely find it .

Once you are 100% sure that your system is clean I would suggest.
 1. Make sure you have a good firewall if you do not have one set up.
Personally I would be using ESET Smart Security rather than the stand
 alone
NOD32 anti virus that you have.
 2. use a disk image utility to back up your windows installation so you
 have
a simple method of returning to a clean version of windows in future.

 Regards

 David Griffith

I am not sure that the description you give of Espeak is particularly
respectful for people who continue to do so much work to provide a viable
free speech synthesiser for NVDA. Particularly as I believe that the
creators may well read this list.
Espeak, to my mind, is the best of the free speech synthesisers out there.
Commercial outfits have the resources to generate different voices and the
resources they have inevitably impact on the result. Espeak appears to be a
work in progress and is clearly improving. The efforts of those behind it
deserve our respect and assistance if we can provide it.

Espeak has increasing variants and there may be a case for changing the
default voice, perhaps to Michael or Male 6.

David Griffith

Howdy all,
Do you have any free SAPI 5 alternative speech synths to use with NVDA for
download? I like the program, but the Espeak one is crap. I don't care much
for the MS trio. I have Real Speak Solo direct on here, but of course those
don't work with NVDA.

If you can find a way to download the SAPI4 voices they work well with NVDA.
I used to use the SAPI4 voices until some kind of screw up within my

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Wow! $10 MP3 Player Really Is Accessible

The hardest part of using this gizmo is getting it out
of the plastic blister pack which requires a heavy duty scissors to cut
open.

Well, it turns out that the Coby MP200 MP3 player may be blind accessible
after all. I did a little research, and discovered that the Coby MP200 is
similar in design to the discontinued Creative Zen Stone that caused such a
stir in the blind community when it was first introduced a couple of years
ago. Like the Zen Stone, the Coby MP200, which is about the size of a pack
of chewing gum, has a concentric ring surrounding a Play-Stop/Power button
on its front panel. Pressing and holding it for 5 seconds turns the unit
on. Pressing the top of the ring increases the volume, and pressing the
bottom of the ring decreases the volume. Pressing the right side of the
ring skips to the next track, while pressing and holding it scans rapidly
forward through the current track. Pressing the left side of the ring skips
to the previous track,, while pressing and holding it scans rapidly backward
through the current track. That's it. It has no display screen or
navigation menus to deal with, just a LED power indicator. Unlike the Zen
Stone, the Coby unit has no shuffle play mode, so you can only listen to
tracks in the order they were downloaded, which, presumably, can be easily
accomplished using simple Copy and Pate command. With 2gb of memory, it has
twice the storage capacity of the Zen Stone, and as an added bonus, it can
be used as a flash drive for data storage. It plugs directly into a USB
port, but also includes a separate USB cable as well as a set of earbuds.
It runs on a single replaceable AAA battery (included) which is said to
provide up to 8 hours of playing time, rather than a sealed, nonreplaceable
rechargeable battery, which, for me, is a big plus. So I went ahead and
ordered one from JR. For ten bucks with free shipping, how can you go
wrong?

Maria,
Yes it might for sights that require it. There is some vonrabailities that I

has been code that might affect your PC. I know this is a little to much

 Hi Elaine,
It has been pointed out to me, that in my original reply
to your question, that I neglected to mention how your computer was going
 to
 recieve the fm signal.
In addition, to the fm transmitter, you will need a portable FM radio that
you can connect to your soundcard.
The transmitter will be connected to your TV, to transmitt the signal,
and the radio connected to your computer can recieve that signal, and
 output
the audio to your soundcard, enabling you to hear the audio on your
 computer
 speakers.
You will need a patch cord to connect the radio to your soundcard.
If my omission of this detail caused any confusion,
 I apologize for that.

Hi gang. What are the top 5 anti-virus programs? Read the following short
article, which appears in today's West Palm BeachNews, to find out. Note
that all five programs are JAWS accessible.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- Want the best antivirus protection for your computer?

What could be better than a recommendation from some of the world's best
computer geeks, who have tested the programs themselves.

Our friends at Lifehacker.com recently asked geeks all over the world to
vote for their best antivirus programs, and here's what they came up with.

At the top of the list, with 23% of the votes, is AVG, which offers a free
edition.

Close behind at number two, with 22% of the votes, is Microsoft Security
Essentials, which is free for all Windows users.

Third is ESET NOD32, followed by antivirus programs by Avast! and Avira.

Until recently, I was using a service called newsgator online. I was able to
receive all my rss items via email. And I was able to readd rss with
different computers at hand, but always up to date, since the read or unread
items etc was on the server. This service now is not available any more so I
am trying to find an alternative.
I like Google reader although I haven't feagured out several things yet.
However, I must find a way to collect my rss contetn while online, and then
being able to read them on the road or in places where I have no connection.

Any suggestions? How are people managing rss content?

Regards.

Last week I bought a high-specs Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 and loved
all its features but finally had to return it because I was having several
issues with Jaws version 11.. I thought it was just the laptop. Any simple
change I make with it like updating the OS or drivers would trigger a Jaws
video driver error and that terrible thing about Jaws not being authorized.
So, wasted some authorization count on that. This week, I received my
customized laptop from Dell which is a Studio 16 XPS. Again, I cannot make
any change to the system without triggering that error message about Jaws
video driver error and Jaws is not activated. But OK, I can work with Jaws
tech support to resolve these. I am patient for a solution and so I thought.
But while a solution is being work out, I still need to work so I need to
have my activation count reset so I can fall back to my old system and
reinstall Jaws on to it. I emailed FS explaining the situation and I get an
offensive email that I am only being given 1 activation count because there
has been a reset request within the past 60 days. This in spite that I have
been in communication with a tech support person. I emailed them again
explaining that I'm not at fault etcetera but I am being stonewalled despite
that I have been respectful all the way in all my communication. Moreover, I
checked my activation count and there was 0 not even the promised 1
activation.

What am I suppose to do now? I feel so violated. I also need to work. Is
there really no redress for things of these sort? I just paid for my SMA and
I'm supposed to be good for until version 13. Folks, it is me that is having
the trouble this time but it could easily be you next time. So, any thoughts
on what I can do?

  Thanks
  Vic

This browser currently is not accessible out of the box. I don't know if any
of the 3 makers of screen readers will develop scripts or other ways to make
this possible. If I hear anything, I or someone else will let the rest of

Hi all!

Since windows 3.1 I've been using a really nice and friendly talking
dictionary which is American heritage v3.5 and I've used it until XP. Just
got a new computer with windows 7 today and of course I cannot install it
anymore. I have windows 7 home but am willing to upgrade to pro if it would

anyone have any suggestion?

Hi all! Just looking for any suggestions and asking if anyone has run into
this problem.

I just got a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6995 with Windows 7, 6GB ofDDr3 ram,
dual core 2.13GHZ processor, NVIDIA g-force video, realtek high-definition
audio. I'm using Jaws V11. The sound from the laptop is really good for
music but the speech synthesizer is somewhat crackly. It is something like
the problem long ago with the SoundBlaster live and jaws maybe version 4 or
5 until a patch came out. This crackling is almost nonexistent in Kurzweil
1000 but is still there a bit. I turned off all the power saving feature for
the sound card but the problem stays the same.

I really like all the goodies that comes with this Toshiba model but I don't
want to be stuck with this kind of problem. should I exchange it for
something else or should I wait for an update or what? Any thoughts?

Thanks
Vic

Hi listers. MS has just released its new free anti-malware program,
Microsoft Security Essentials, for public download. Has anyone tried it
out yet during the beta testing cycle? Is it really JAWS-friendly and easy
to use? Based on the overwhelmingly positive preliminary reviews, it looks
like MS has hit a home run. If MSE is truly JAWS accessible, it sounds like
a great alternative to the free versions of AVG and Avast. If you're

convert text files into MP3 files that can be read as a daisy file or an

Not sure why JAWS needs this type of USB security! Have they

part of JAWS 11 because it failed during installation. I discovered that
the only way it would install without error was to turn off Trend Micro

I am very uncomfortable with this software for many reasons. Most

Since I do not have a Mac yet, I am no expert. The Changes to Snow Leopard
just came out last week and accessible iPod Touch software just came out
yesterday I think. I have not looked into Braille. I am not able to read
Braille, the sensitivity in my remaining fingers is too limited. My sister
who teaches Braille tried to teach me. I am sure that Open Book would work
in an emulation window if needed. Those are great questions. As I keep
considering a Mac, I will be looking to see if there are Mac only solutions.
I also had an Unix background and love the idea of sed, awk, grep pearl and
shell scripting being available. My daughter wants to attend an Art / Film
school where a Mac laptop is included in the tuition.

I have a UNIX background so the move to MAC should not be that hard...

How is the Braille support on MAC?

I really need Braille capabilities, an accessible web browser, accessible
email and secure shell to access my Linux machines both at home and at
 work.

I also need Open Book or similar to scan and read my snail mail.
I suppose I can set up a dual boot on the MAC to run XP just to be able to

Hello,
Just found a new version of C Cleaner on the Beta News site. Question is, is
it safe to run? Will I loose any important regestery keys if I ran it? I'm
so afraid this might happen when I run it and crap starts happening to my
WIN XP home machine. Now isn't the time for anything major to happen with my
PC without any sighted help to bail me out of a jam. Thanks.

Sound advice then. It is out of Beta. I found it on there File Forum section
of said site. It is the full version. I'll take your advice though. Thanks
Rick.

Hi Lino,
If things are running well right now, then I would leave it alone.
Just remember, the latest, isn't always the greatest, especially if it is in
beta.
