[Blind-Computing] getting answers from google by email
Hi, I have heard in the past that you could send an email to goo...@capeclear.com and put a question in the subject field and not have any thing in the edit field and sending it would get a reply with not more than ten hits. I have tried it without success. Is anyone familiar with such a form of inquiry? Do I have it right? thanks for any information. [Blind-Computing] any special features for cross over cable
Hi The subject tells it all. I recently noted an email in which the outline of connecting two PCs for net working with a cross over cable was discussed. the cable was simply called a UTP cable. Hi, Maybe the question is something different. I got some DVDs for Christmas and cannot get them to open and display in my XP with JFW 11. Thanks for the suggestion, Mark. I believe that you think there is a single file on the DVD, rather, there are hundreds of books on it in separate files. I opened the DVD/CD drive and looked at everything I could bring up. Nothing struck me as a meaningful approach. - Original Message - Thanks for your contribution. I do have a Windows 7 computer as well, and the DVD does open somewhat on it; however, I do not have much competence on that machine which is why I am trying to open the DVD on the XP computer. Press Alt + V for the view menu. 2. Arro down to Sort By and press enter. 3. Arrow down and make sure received ascending are checked. If one or both are not checked press enter on 1 of them and when you press enter it will check that choice and take you out of the menu so, you will have to press Alt + V again to go back in and chec the other box if necessary. 1 other note, If you want your emails sorted by name you want to check the From selection and if you want your messages sorted by what time you received them you will check Received . Checking From, Ascending will make your messages appear in alphabetical order with the A's at the top and the Z's at the bottom, checking From, Descending will make your messages come in reverse alphabetical order, the Z's at the top and the A's at the bottom. Checking Received Ascending will make your messages appear by the time they were received with the oldest message appearing at the top and newest message at the bottom. Checking Received, and Descending will make your messages appear with the newest messages at the top and oldest messages appearing at the bottom. I know this is a long winded explanation but, maybe this will help someone with less Jaws experience than yourself to understand the Sort By sub menu choices. Take care. Thank you Scorpio. I have already told Comcast about my vision problem but that does not mean as much to its supervisor as making money. I guess we'll take a shot at it. Your discussion will make it somewhat easier. I think. I hope. Lloyd fuge - Original Message - From: Scorpio Forever scorpio...@gmail.com To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Thursday, July 08, 2010 10:54 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] how hard to install a wireless router Hello Lloyd, While setting up a wireless router is fairly easy in terms of setting up encryption and the like, in other words, a Wireless password so only people who have the password can access it, the hardware setup can be moderate to advanced, depending on the type of service you have. If you have or are looking to install a wireless router on a service utilizing DSL service, then it may be difficult without sighted help, as the installation required the installation of filters to the existing phone jacks, and those phone jack filters are rarely easy for a blind person to be able to distinguish between the line in and line out. for the router and the phone line. Having said that, you said your friend is colour blind, and so the difficulty level drops significantly for him, as he can look at the diagrams on the filters to be able to distinguish between the two jacks that have to be plugged in. The only problem I could see him encountering, and this would be with both services, cable and DSL, is being able to tell whether the router is online or not. This part requires some colour identification with the lights on the router, and so if he cannot tell what colour the lights are, he can't advise the rep, if he calls, what colour they are. With the cable service, it's a bit more simplified, as it does not involve any filtering of the lines, and just requires straight lines into the router, and those are fairly hard to miss. In most cases though, as soon as you tell the service provider that you're blind/visually impaired, or even colour blind, in most cases, they are required to send out a tech to install the piece of equipment, as it does require sight to distinguish the colours on the router. You should enquire about that. Once the hardware is set up, the rest is fairly simple, and just involves logging into the router to set up any firewall, although this part is already configured by default, unless your friend operates a server or something else that would require remote access, and setting up a password for the wireless. Advanced users will often access the router to increase the time out protocols and connection types, but these are better left alone for people who have little experience with those types of settings. It's all done through your Internet browser, like Firefox or Internet Explorer, and does require a username and password, but that can be given to you by your ISP tech support. Hope this helps. Last night I was told that installing a wireless router to a cable is rather simple. Is it something that can be done without vision?
