Re: [Blind-Computing] JAWS Dongle
Curious. I've bought my JAWS recently and I licence it through ILM. Could I just therefore purchase a dongle without buying the whole JAWS again? Also, what features can I use with a dongle? Like Remote Access and Tandem Direct? Also, can dongles be used to temporarily authorize JAWS even if it's machines running professional versions of Windows? Please advise. Thanks. -- Chris Hallsworth e-mail: christopher...@googlemail.com MSN: ch9...@hotmail.com Skype: chrishallsworth7266 - Original Message - From: Aiden Gardiner aiden.gardiner@googlemail.com To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, July 07, 2009 1:25 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] JAWS Dongle When you start jaws, make sure your dongle is plugged in because that's where your licence key is. Re: [Blind-Computing] JAWS Dongle
From the JAWS help topic on dongle authorization: Dongle Authorization A dongle is a hardware device that you can connect to a computer's parallel or USB port (depending on the type of dongle). JAWS is authorized to run on that computer as long as the dongle remains connected. This is useful if you frequently need to use JAWS on many different computers and do not want to activate the program on each of them. When JAWS starts, it first determines whether a dongle is connected to the computer. If one is connected, JAWS uses the features and information for the license associated with the dongle to authorize JAWS. If no dongle is connected, JAWS searches for the license information stored on the computer. You can use the Dongle Viewer utility to view information on the license associated with the dongle currently connected to your computer. To start this utility, go to the JAWS program group, open the Tools submenu, and choose Dongle Viewer. Note: It is recommended that you do not connect the dongle to your computer until after you install JAWS. If the dongle was connected before or during installation, you must restart your computer to receive proper authorization. Dongles are sold separately or as an additional JAWS feature. Contact Freedom Scientific Sales if you want to purchase one. Note: Certain international versions of JAWS require a dongle for authorization. Using one of these versions without a dongle displays an error message. It's all as clear as mud to me. I have JAWS10 Pro. Does this mean that I can buy a dongle for it and use it temporarily on other computers besides the one JAWS is already on? Or, as I thought previously, there are JAWS versions that only work with dongles. Re: [Blind-Computing] JAWS Dongle
I gather that you could just buy a dongle and use it on as many computers as you have JAWS installed. FS won't know about it since the licence is all embedded into the device. All FS knows is that you've purchased the dongle and thus you have the right to use it. -- Chris Hallsworth e-mail: christopher...@googlemail.com MSN: ch9...@hotmail.com Skype: chrishallsworth7266 - Original Message - From: Maria Campbell lucky1i...@sbcglobal.net To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, July 07, 2009 8:04 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] JAWS Dongle It's all as clear as mud to me.
