Re: [Blind-Computing] Upgrading to Windows 7

2010-09-20 Thread John Justice
Francis,
I think that I can straighten this out a little. Jaws Professional will
work on any Windows 7 version.
I believe that there's a really limited version called Windows 7 Home but
I've never worked with it.
The more popular versions are below.
Windows 7 Home Premium,
Windows 7 Professional,
Windows 7 Ultimate:

There's another step between Professional and Ultimate but I can't remember
what it's called.
Those higher functioning versions run a lot of money. Steve was right
though. You can get an upgrade package which will take you from Windows XP
to Windows 7 Home Premium. The price may vary depending on your particular
locale and on promotional considerations.

If you can afford it, Windows 7 Ultimate is an amazing piece of software.
I'm using Professional, myself.
If you'd like to learn more about what the differences mean, there's a
Windows 7 for Blind Users group.
The link for that group is below.
It's run by a man called Rick who is intelligent and knowledgeable but he
doesn't have David's personality.
(grins)
Anyway, they are pretty sticky about things staying on topic over there,
namely Windows 7. It isn't our Rick that runs that group. I can't think of
his last name but he has a site called BLIND-GEEK-ZONE.NET. Here's that
link I promised you.

http://www.blindwindows7-j...@yahoogroups.com

As I'm sure you are already aware, beware of Yahoo and its numerous odd
behaviors.

Good luck, Francis. I think you'll like Windows 7. I know I do.

John Justice

I have been using Windows XP for a while and now that I have heard a lot
about Windows 7 and what it can do, I want to purchase a full version of
the program to update my computer. However, I have heard that there are
several versions to choose from such as Home Premium, etc. I want a
version that won't cost a figure which will cause me to apply to the bank
for a loan to be paid off in three years.

I understand that there are many experts on what Windows 7 does and I
hope you can give me advice on what I can buy. Will $200 be enough to
purchase my copy of Windows 7? And from where, directly from Microsoft
 or Amazon.

One more thing. How do I keep my programs that I use now so that they
can work after the Windows 7 has been installed.

Yes it does. The product key for now has been moved to the setup Windows

If you do the first part of the installation inside Windows, regardless of
upgrade or full, your screen reader will walk you through it all. When it
reboots the rest of it will be automated till it's ready for you to set it
up. You should then be able to launch Narrator with Windows U, Alt N, to
complete the setup. Hope this helps.

Hello all,
First of all, this e-mail is not to flame anybody, nor is it designed to
name and shame people. However, after what I've read that Netbooks with
Windows XP can't be upgraded to Windows 7, this is completely false. All
machines that are running either Windows XP or Vista can be upgraded to
7.

The difference here is that no XP edition supports in-place upgrades,
meaning that a clean install is required. You can still use your upgrade
DVD

to perform the clean install though since XP would be recognized by the
DVD,

thus you can go ahead with the clean install. With Vista, however, the
upgrade path depends on what Vista edition you're currently using. Here's
the upgrade paths you can follow:
Vista Home Premium -7 Home Premium
Vista Business -7 Professional
Vista Ultimate -7 Ultimate
Other editions of Vista, like Home Basic, are not supported, and thus no
upgrade path exists. There's also no upgrade path if you wish to
upgrade

from a 32-bit edition of Windows Vista to a 64-bit edition of Windows 7.
In
both cases a clean install is required, however the upgrade DVD will work
for this since Vista will be recognized by the DVD.
What I will say though is that it's completely your choice if you decide
to
cancel your licence, but I thought I'd better get this out there for fear
of

misinformation.
So hope this all helps and it clears things.
Have a good day.
