Anyone know the basic equation to calculate how deep or tall a
common dome shape is needed of a material that has a know amount of air
restriction to equal the cross section area of a tube if there was no
filter or screen in place?
The reason for using a screen is to even out the airflow,
especially at low throttle positions, where I'm getting out of
proportionately low MAF readings for the amount of airflow.
Two reason to make a dome shaped screen rather than leaving the tube
fully open:
A. a flat piece of screen will even out the airflow though it will also
restrict it.
B. So to compensate, and maybe increase the overall flow to the
centerpoint where the sensor is, a dome shape of proper depth for the
diameter of the tube and distance from the sensor is will direct more
air to the center of my MAF tube at that point. The result I'm working
on is to get a higher WOT signal, and thus indicate a higher mass of air
to the ECU.

Barry

You need an air straightener, AKA laminar flow device, not a screen. Get
one from a GM MAF at a junk yard.

Regarding the equation, calculate the area of the dome such that the area
between the screen wires is about double the area of the duct since each
wire creates turbulence and a vena cava. The area of a hemisphere is
2*pi*r^2 or (pi/2)*d^2. You need to know the screen you are using.

Fellow Bimmerphiles:

I have the following left over from the days when I had an E36 M3 and those
that followed when I thought I wanted an M-Coupe. This stuff has been
sitting in my Garage since I sold the M3 approximately 3 years ago.

All items are in very good condition!!!! Prices do not include shipping.
Buyer will pay *actual* shipping charges on chosen shipping method...S/H
fees are horse pucky, IMO. PayPal address is same as e-mail address. No, I
am not going to tack on 3% PayPal fees...I chose to accept payment that way,
not your fault. I accept cashier's checques/ Postal Money Orders. Those
will be held for clearance. Nothing personal, but there are a lot of shifty
people floating about. ;^)

I do travel for work...alot! I am home most every weekend. If you buy
something while I am out on the road, I will do my best to convince my
better half that this is worth going to the garage and getting out. She
does go to grad school and work two jobs, so she is not always up for my
silliness. Otherwise, I will get it out as soon as I get home...I won't
even stop to kiss the misses or pet the cat! That last one is not a
euphemism, I actually have a cat.

If you any questions, inquiries, comments, gossip, etc., please e-mail me.
I don't watch the digests too closely these days. If you get my
spam-blocker message, sorry. I *will* still get your message, though!

Prices are somewhat negotiable. I arrived at these prices by shopping
around for what these cost and then figured about 50% or a little less.

1 Sueded Steering Wheel. Unused since recovering! This is a custom piece
covered by a company in Dallas, TX (I do not recall the company...fabulous
work though. If the organizer of the GB from several years back remembers,
contact me!!!) It is synthetic suede, specifically for the automotive
environment. The BMW tri-color stitching is done in the factory pattern by
hand. The only flaw is they put the M-badge on upside down...this can be
corrected by the buyer. This is the style steering wheel that fits E36's (I
believe 1999 E36 M3 came with this style steering wheel - stock) and E36
based M-Coupes (1999-2003) and M-Roadsters. No air-bag, you'll have to
supply your own, or reuse yours if you already have this style steering
wheel. I really do not remember what I have invested in this, but I know it
is over double what I'm asking.....300.00

1 Set Ignition Solutions Plasma Direct Coils (now handled through Okada
Projects) http://www.okadaprojects.com/usa/products_direct.htm. This set
will only fit the S50 engine used in the 1995 US E36 M3. Did provide a
crisper throttle response and a few (read: 2-3) HP on the dyno. I didn't
notice any difference in mileage, but I could never keep my foot out of it,
either. The stronger spark will definitely help any of you running forced
induction. You will need to reuse your stock elephant trunks (plug boots).
Used for maybe 25,000 miles. Current list on these is ridiculous at
1190.00. Half of that is still too much for them.....asking 300.00

Hi.

I have a '96 328is manual (175K miles) and I acquired an engine from a
'99 328 automatic (56K miles) that happened to have the complete
engine harness attached. Does anyone happen to know whether I can use
the harness (with the original '96 DME) from the '99 or do I need to
use the original harness?

The only difference my tired old eyes have spotted so far is what
appears to be an extra round, multi-socket connector probably for the
slushbox.

Thanks everyone!

Michael

There are numerous other differences, including, but not limited to,
traction control wiring and reverse light wiring.

Best off using your original 96 wiring.

The lad is running into problems getting the new motor mount (driver's
side) off of the 328. (He's putting in new).
Any tricks or instructions on getting this done?
Turbo and exhuast are now on.

Thanks, Kevin

any detail on what the problems are would help.

last few times i have done this it has been pretty simple. remove top and
bottom nuts, raise engine a little, pull out mount. if engine doesn't go up
high enough, lower front subframe.
