Many are sources from the PRC or Hong Kong. Are these legitimate? It appears that the sellers provide a hard drive as part of the system. Is there as way to backup or archive the guts of the system in the eventual case when the HD fails? I take it the HD is in that funky yellow oval shaped cylinder(s). Are the different cylinders for different models? Also why is the system tied to an older IBM laptop? Also what's the deal with Carsoft? Can you buy their system without going to Belgium? Anyone know the relative price? -Kevin --------------------------------------------------------------------------- TSMC PROPERTY This email communication (and any attachments) is proprietary information for the sole use of its intended recipient. DIS is a larger version of the same thing, but older. Either will handle E34s and can be found relatively cheap on occasion. Or buy the Chinese GT-1. They work, but they're expensive by the time you piece together the laptop, etc, and if you have an issue with it, you're screwed. Alternatively, there is an item called a "pass through tool" which has various iterations offered by various companies. They tend to cost less than $2K, and when used in conjunction with www.bmwtechinfo.com, you have full diagnostic ability on any BMW. Also an interface head for the car with some cables. My understanding is that the hard drive *might* work with an IBM R30, and pretty much *won't* work with any other laptop.
