[cayugabirds-l] Interlaken-Black Diamond RR bed , 1/17/10

2010-01-17 Thread Marty Schlabach
In addition to quite a few half-hardy species along the railroad bed between
Interlaken village and Powell Rd, we had a WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW along Powell
Rd, near where the RR bed crosses.

Best,
Marty, Mary Jean, Phil

[cayugabirds-l] Eared Grebe in Aurora

2010-01-17 Thread alm9413
Around 2:45 P.M., I spotted an Eared Grebe from the north side of the
boathouse in Aurora. It was somewhere around 1/3rd the way out in the lake. I
first noticed 5 Horned Grebes further north and further out on the lake. As
I scanned, the Eared Grebe came into view. It was much closer to shore, but
I still needed to zoom in on it. It was actively feeding, heading south.
The dark head and shape of the forehead, white ear patch, and dusky neck
were easily identified.
Best, Ann Mitchell
