[cayugabirds-l] nice feeder birds

2012-12-01 Thread John and Sue Gregoire
Had a mix of COMMON REDPOLLS, PINE SISKIN, and RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES all
together
at our feeders yesterday. Plenty of activity as the snow fell. No Grosbeaks
yet, but
we're open for business.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Several thousand snow geese lower lake rd west side northern cayuga lake

2012-12-01 Thread Tom Vawter
The huge raft of snow geese was quite a sight on the azure lake in the
bright sun on Thursday as I drove down Pumpkin Hill into Aurora. Too far
to the west side of the lake to get any detail w/ my binoculars, but
unmistakeable.

[cayugabirds-l] Interesting gull at compost

2012-12-01 Thread Kenneth Victor Rosenberg
There was an interesting full at the compost piles off Stevenson rd this
morning. I suppose it is a first cycle LESSER. BLACK-BACKED GULL but it seemed
to be a bit larger and bulkier than nearby Herrings, which would not be right.
I was fooled by one last year at Stewart park that looked big to me but was
just a lesser. Might be wort. A look by others though.

[cayugabirds-l] Snows/Union Springs

2012-12-01 Thread John and Fritzie Blizzard
At 2:45 p.m. from my kit. window, saw perhaps a couple doz. SNOWS heading south
but suddenly they turned eastward, perhaps going to Owasco Lake. Daughter,
Becky, has been seeing Snows from her house almost daily for the last 3 wks.
either flying north or in the cornfields.

John I were at Aurora down to the state park between noon 1 p.m.. Hazy
across the rough lake so couldn't see the west shore. Saw nothing but whitecaps
on the lake.

Lots of Canadas, mallards a nice group of Buffles snuggled in the Aurora cove.

[cayugabirds-l] Snow geese

[cayugabirds-l] Owasco Snow Geese

2012-12-01 Thread Eben McLane
Guess someone from Owasco Lake should chime in: there are two separate and
relatively small rafts of Snow Geese on the water now, one at the far north
end, another a mile or so to the south. Total count might be 300 - 400.
