[cayugabirds-l] Carolina wren

2013-12-25 Thread Judith Thurber
As I was sweeping a path to and around the feeders this beautifully snowy
Christmas dawning, the only sound to be heard was the soft caroling of 'tea
kettle, tea kettle, tea kettle' over and over again. Then a Crow and a Tree
Sparrow added their part.

Merry Christmas everyone!

[cayugabirds-l] 4 Snowy Owls Lake Rd fields

2013-12-25 Thread Debbie Mahoney
3:45 4 SNOWY OWLS Seen in the fields on either side of Lake rd by the south
entrance to Long Point. Seemed to be two pairs playing around in the fields.
Swooping and diving with each other, calling, and being harassed by a CROW for
a bit. One pair on one each side of the road. One lighter and one darker in
each pair. Glorious and majestic! What a nice gift.
Happy Holidays everyone,
Debbie Mahoney

[cayugabirds-l] Sorry! 4 snowys probably short eareds

2013-12-25 Thread Debbie Mahoney
After getting home and looking at my books I think those owls we saw earlier
were probably 2 pair of short eareds. Buffy patches, darker faces and harrier
like behavior were seen. Clear white under wing was absent.

Sorry! I will wait to get home to post from now on. We have never seen either
in the wild so we are still happy :-)

Need to fix Birdseye now...
