We've had a surprising variety of birds eating suet at our feeders this spring. 
I was wondering if others have seen this as well.  The list includes:Baltimore 
Oriolesx Gray CatbirdsRose-breasted GrosbeaksPine Siskinsx Hairy, Downy, 
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and Red-bellied woodpeckersx Gracklesx Starlingsx Blue 
Jaysx Red-winged Blackbirdsx Chickadeesx White-breasted Nuthatch  (and we have 
Red-breasted too)Chipping Sparrow - around feeders, but not suet  Have seen the

We noticed our Orioles coming into the orange suet this year, as well.
Normally, they only care about the oranges and the jellies.

Both male and female Baltimore Orioles can be pretty variable in coloration. 
I've watched many orioles, and I've seen yellow-looking males, and at the other 
extreme, I've seen quite male-like females. There is currently a pair nesting 
in the Newman Arboretum of which the female is very orange, dark-headed and 
confusingly male-like (yes, I've seen the male of the pair and he is even 
brighter!). In my experience the comparative blackness of the head (male) and 
presence of brownish coloration on the head and back (female) are good ways to 
tell them apart conclusively.

We've had 4 Rose-breasted Gross beaks (male and female) and bright Orioles
on our suet on Meadowlark Rd NE Ithaca for 2 days.

[cayugabirds-l] Rose-breasted grosbeak/indigo bunting behavior

I live in Caroline.  A friend was helping me with some gardening a few days ago 
and she observed what appeared to be an altercation between a rose-breasted 
grosbeak and an indigo bunting near some lilacs. Then, we found what looks to 
be a dead female indigo bunting on the ground.

Any ideas about what might have been going on? Would they be competing for 
territory? I'm guessing the death occurred from a window strike.
