That's awesome. After a few days of quiet skies, the steady stream of the
snows and some mixed flocks was amazing!

Got ‘em! Thanks.

They were so close to West shore this time, that several came ashore & were
eating grass on a small lawn south of Wolffy’s. Fun to see them so close by.

They (est. 40,000 by Suan Y. ) attracted quite a large # of hairless primate
observers, too.
& a bit of a traffic jam.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] snow geese and sand hill cranes

2021-03-20 Thread Donna Lee Scott
No guarantee on seeing Snow geese tomorrow, but worth a try. They are often
here today and gone tomorrow.

I looked for Sandhill cranes in sev. Montezuma Complex places & didn’t see any.
But others reported a few of them, days ago, so good to look around.

I did see lots of Canadas & lots of ducks.
Northern Pintails & Shovelers at MNWR visitors Ctr & other areas.

Large bunch Aythyas in middle of Cayuga L. North end off Lower Lake Rd. /Cay.
L. State Pk.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Osprey

2021-03-20 Thread Candace E. Cornell
I saw my first Cayuga Lake Osprey perched on the third nest west of the
MNWR entrance from 2:05-3pm. this afternoon. It flew off and returned with
building material several times within the hour I was there. I checked
about 80 Osprey nests without any other sightings.

The snow geese are still south of Cayuga State Park. It's a phenomena not
to be missed while they are still here. The sky was swirling with birds,
many incoming, with many thousands congregated along the shoreline.

Eyes to the Sky!
