[cayugabirds-l] Union Springs .. New for us this fall
Just saw our first /white crowned sparrow/ at the feeders. First /dark-eyed Junco/ was seen on Sat. 2 Sept..Canadas are going over, out to feed in farm fields, in ever enlarging flocks even tho' fall seems a bit sluggish otherwise with very few trees showing any color. All things in due time, including frost & snow!. Our ever-bearing red raspberries are large & tasty. The patch has gotten out of hand & we have lots of young plants to share. I was walking on Baldhill Road, past where Station Road meets, going up to the pinnacles, when a raptor shows up. I’m guessing it’s a Cooper’s hawk, but I don’t know raptors well. It followed me when I went off the road to check out the stream, and ended up hopping up to me on a fallen log. It was about 7 feet away, and not the slightest bit afraid of me. Then I noticed each leg had a piece of triangular leather wrapped around it with holes for a string to go through. So it was somebodies pet raptor. This was on Sunday and I’m sorry to have waited so long to post about it. I’m assuming it was looking for a handout. Has anyone been missing a pet hawk?
