[cayugabirds-l] Has anyone lost a small parrot-type bird?

2022-05-03 Thread Alicia Plotkin
Reuben Stoltzfus asked me to report that a "Robin-sized blue parrot" has
been hanging around  in Ovid on Rte 96A  for a few days.  (The
description is as given by the finder and not Reuben, who is out of
town.)  The bird acts quite tame and flies between two properties there,
where they have been feeding it.  There are no bands on it and I don't
have a photo.

If you think this might be your bird, you can get in touch with one of
the people feeding it, Andy Stoltzfus, by calling  315-559-0253 or
607-869-4847.

Please share with anyone or any site that might be able to help reunite
the bird with its owners!

Thanks.

[cayugabirds-l] yard birds

2022-05-03 Thread David McDermitt
Enjoyed watching a male yellow-bellied sapsucker work his way around some
trees in our back woodlot in Danby this morning. A huge raven flew
southwest over the creek while a couple cowbirds perched nearby and a
white-breasted nuthatch picked its way head-first down a snag.

[cayugabirds-l] New Migrants

2022-05-03 Thread Carol Keeler
The catbird came a few days ago. The Purple Finch pair came several weeks ago.
Yesterday I had a female Towhee and the female Rose Breasted Grosbeak. This
morning I had two male Orioles at the same time and also spotted the male
Grosbeak. Later on I spotted a mature White Crown Sparrow. It’s been a great
day so far. I’m near . Auburn.
There was an Osprey nest on a tower near my house on rt 20. I’m sad to say
the nest was removed and the Ospreys have not tried to rebuild it. I’ll miss
them. They were often circling over my house calling.
