Yesterday at about 2:30 pm there was an Osprey on the nesting platform on
Rt. 90 at Kings Corners Rd. This location is north of Levanna and south of
Great Gully.

There were two ospreys on the platform nest at Rt. 90 and Rt. 326 in Union
Springs around 6:30 p.m. this evening. One bird left the platform and flew
toward Cayuga Lake while the other remained on the nest.

[cayugabirds-l] Eastern Meadowlark

I spotted a first of the year Eastern Meadowlark near Aurora. The bird was
in a field off of Carpenter Rd . about a quarter of a mile west of the
intersection of Carpenter and Black Rock Rd. Take Poplar Ridge Rd east off
of Rt.90 to Black Rock Rd., turn right and proceed south to Carpenter, turn
right and proceed about a quarter of a mile. I will post a couple of photos
on eBird.

While scanning the banks of Salmon Creek this afternoon we spotted two
Killdeer on the Salt Point side of the estuary in Myers Park in Lansing. As
usual there were plenty of Ring-billed Gulls and four Great or Lesser
Black-backed Gulls.

Robins in the trees adjacent to the west parking lot of the Island Fitness
Center in Ithaca. The birds were active as they flew in flocks from one

[cayugabirds-l] Snowy Owl Myers Point

I spotted a Snowy Owl at Myers on a spit at the mouth of Salmon Creek at
9:30 am this morning. The owl  was still in the vicinity on the point of
Myers Park at 10:45 am. It flew south around 11:00am - might be near the
Lansing Boat Yard. SO is curently  on A bright green. boating marker  by
the Myers marinas.

[cayugabirds-l] American Golden Plover & Ospreys

An American Golden Plover, correct me if I am wrong, was working the edge
of the first pool close to the road to the west before arriving at the
visitor's center parking lot at MNWR at about 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today. I
will post photos later tonight on Ebird.

Also I was surprised to see a pair of Ospreys on the nest of the first
tower just west of the entrance to MNWR at about 2:30 p.m. No photos were
taken.

FOY House Wren arrived in our yard moments ago while a Carolina Wren,
Red-bellied Woodpecker and a Northern Flicker were calling from the
adjacent wood lot. The FOY BO that I reported a couple days ago finally
returned to the oriole feeder.

FOY Indigo Bunting attempted to join the goldfinches on the thistle feeders
but was quickly rebuffed. I have yet to see his return. In addition some of
the regular diners include Baltimore Orioles, Brown Thrashers, Eastern
Starlings, Common Grackles, House Wrens, Carolina Wrens, Red-bellied
Woodpeckers, Chipping Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, etc. A
Great-crested Flycatcher also landed near the feeders.

In the adjacent woodlot there were Yellow Warblers, Yellow-rumped Warblers
and one Cape May Warbler.

[cayugabirds-l] A pair of Common Loons and two Ospreys

Yesterday on Friday afternoon I spotted a pair of Common Loons at Myers
Point. In addition there was one Osprey in a nearby tree adjacent to the
Osprey platform at Myers Point. Earlier in the week I saw one Osprey on the
platform on Lake Rd. just south of Long Point State Park near Aurora.
Closer to Aurora on Lake Rd. there was a raft of approximately 25
Buffleheads hugging the shoreline.
