[cayugabirds-l] Starlings & friends

2023-03-11 Thread Donna Lee Scott
I’ve had numerous Starlings visiting my feeding area with the recent snow.
Joining them have been some Cowbirds, male & female, at least one Grackle, & a
few male Red-winged Blackbirds.

Also, House Finches, Chickadees, Nuthatches, Titmice, DE Juncos, Mourning
Doves, & Pigeons have been here.

[cayugabirds-l] Starlings

2023-02-28 Thread Donna Lee Scott
While some of you have had Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds, with hawks and
Crows showing off in your yards, I had about 200 Starlings and my usual 25
Pigeons & 4 Crows here , decimating my feeders in the snow today!
Good entertainment for the two indoor cats!

We did have a Rough-legged Hawk seen by a good birder here a couple days ago,
but I did not see it. And the local Screech Owl has been seen in his hole off
and on. He/she looks asleep, but I can tell it is looking at me from the bottom
of its eye slits.

[cayugabirds-l] starlings

2013-12-19 Thread Bill Mcaneny
Right now, there is a flock of perhaps 1000 starlings in our trees all
around the east side of the house. Most of them came down to the creek a
few minutes ago for a little sip of water, or perhaps a bath to rid
themselves of the dirty bird' accusation. Shirley suggests that they are
looking for my truck, upon which they often bestow little gifts. If we get
1000 little gifts today, I will just bury the truck.

In Africa, there are numerous species of starlings and every one is more
attractive than these invaders. Nonetheless, a flock of 1000 anythings is
awesome when they fill the trees in one's yard.
