Ann Mitchell & I did some local birding today (the Ides of March, 2012). Highlights included:
7 GADWALL on the main pond at the Lab of O
2 TREE SWALLOWS over the ponds on Neimi Rd and 1 over the George Rd pond in Dryden
2 EASTERN MEADOWLARKS by George Rd & NYS-38, one which posed on a close fence post for best-ever views
4 KILLDEER, 18 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 8 AMERICAN WIGEON, 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE, and some RING-NECKED DUCKS all at George Rd pond
~25 AMERICAN PIPITS & 6 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS atop the east peak of Mt Pleasant
~250 SNOW GEESE migrating north over Mt Pleasant
2 FOX SPARROWS (eventually very cooperative) & 1 BROWN CREEPER in the woods in the valley between the peaks of Mt Pleasant
1 EASTERN PHOEBE, 1 BROWN CREEPER, & 1 RUFFED GROUSE in Monkey Run south, all heard only.
