[cayugabirds-l] Dead Accipiter... use?

2024-01-02 Thread Steve Benedict
I have an accipiter killed in a window strike yesterday. I'm going to say
juvenile Sharp-shinned but in my hand I still can't swear to it.

Ought to be of some value educationally or otherwise. Currently
refrigerated but could freeze it if that is not a bad idea. Contact me via
email if you have a vision on this. We will try to get it to you ASAP

Died 1/1/24
Ontario Co., Geneva NY 14456

Thanks,
Steven Benedict

[cayugabirds-l] Earth-Sun distance

2024-01-02 Thread Peter Saracino
Greetings on this day of perihelion... the day when Earth is as close to
the Sun as it will get for the entire year...0.9833 AU from the Sun. (1 AU
is about 93,000,000 miles).
Can Spring be far away?
Pete Saracino/NY State Master Naturalist Volunteer
P.S. that's 1 am on the 3rd Prime Meridian time.

[cayugabirds-l] Dead sharpie for donation

2024-01-02 Thread Peter Saracino
My friend has a window strike victim in the form of a Sharpe-shinned hawk
(I think, vs Coopers). He'd like to see it get used for educational or
research purposes. Any thoughts of a good contact person at the lab or
somewhere else? He can transport it. Just needs a destination.
Many thanks.
