[cayugabirds-l] Bird Walk at the Seneca Meadows Wetland Preserve

2024-04-11 Thread Leff, Fred
I am leading a bird walk to the Seneca Meadows Wetland Preserve (1712 Black
Brook Road Seneca Falls, NY 13148) at 9:00 AM on this Saturday April 13.
We will walk a total of about 3 miles in about 3 hours. Included in this walk
is the first Bald Eagle nest ever on the property. And on Sunday 4/7, we
observed a very tiny young eagle being fed by one of its parents!
We may see some early migrant passerines and waterfowl as well. The trails
have been very wet so please bring waterproof boots.
Please use the link below to register:

Thank you

2024-04-11 Thread madonna stallmann
Hello birding friends!

My husband and I will be traveling to coastal Maine in August. Can anyone
provide suggestions for the best possible way to observe puffins while we
are there?

[cayugabirds-l] education barred owl

2024-04-11 Thread Suzanne A. Horning
Hello!
The Cornell Raptor Program had a barred owl get loose this evening. She was
last seen near the intersection of the East Hill Recreation Trail and Game Farm
Road. She does have gear on including jesses, a swivel and a leash (which may
have come off). She is fully flighted.

Students and volunteers from the program are still out looking for her. If you
spot her, please call Dr. Heather Huson, Director of the program at
907.388.4485 or you can also reach her via-email at h...@cornell.edu.

[cayugabirds-l] Vulture Cultures

2024-04-11 Thread Regi Teasley
Let’s face it: vultures are cool.

By turns worshipped and reviled, the bird frequently associated with death has
appeared in art works for thousands of years. Here’s a short history.
