[CentOS] Cronjob and sudo
I need to remove empty files out of a directory that are over 6 hours
old so I created this script and put it in cron.hourly.
#!/bin/sh
cd /var/list
sudo -u matt find /var/list -mmin +360 -empty -user matt -exec rm {} \;
I want to run it as matt rather than root for just an added bit of
safety. Problem is I get this.
sudo: sorry, you must have a tty to run sudo
Is there another way to do this? As I understand the reason for this
is requiretty in sudo config. If that improves security I would
rather not change that setting.

Can't you just run it from your own crontab and not from root's?

Did you try to use su instead? E.g., in my /etc/rc.local I have a bunch of
stuff run on behalf of users other than root. Like:
/bin/su lmgrd -c 'export
IDL_DIR=/usr/local/opt/flexlm/idl;/usr/local/opt/flexlm/idl/bin/lmgrd -c
/usr/local/opt/flexlm/licenses/license.dat -l /var/log/flexlm/idl.log
/dev/null 21'
As a second thought (which should have been firth thought), you may be
able to just add cron job for that user (if that user isn't deprived the
ability to have cron jobs). Assuming you are root, edit that user's
crontab:
crontab -u matt
and either put that single long command line in user's crontab (note, you
also need to specify time parameters, take a look into man crontab) or
point to script (which should be readable and executable by that user).

What if you did not use sudo at all? Say in cron.d:
0 * * * * matt /usr/local/bin/deletecrap /dev/null 21

For what it's worth, we no longer have requiretty in the package in Fedora, so eventually that change will probably make it down to CentOS. Overall, security benefit vanishingly small and inconvenience high. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1020147#c9 Surprised its still in Centos 7 actually. Yo de ti me cambiaria de distro o seguiria con CentOS 6. CentOS 7 es una distro que esta repleta de bugs, es más, en agosto reporte un fallo en CentOS 7 el cual me informaron de que dicho bug lo reportase en bugzilla de redhat. Lo hice, reporte el fallo y aún sigue sin ser resuelto, solo fué aceptado y que en la próxima versión estaría solucionado, lo curioso del asunto, es que despues de publicar el bug, más gente tiene el mismo problema y siguen quejandose y Red Hat sigue pasivo, pero avisando de que estará resuelto en la próxima versión, como he dicho antes. De agosto a esta fecha, una distro seria, no dejan pasar tanto tiempo, ya que empresas las empresas y administradores necesitan de esa característica. Es lamentable que una distro que esta enfocada a nivel empresarial, la saquen con tantos bugs sin ser solucionados. Saludos. Hi guys, I don't use virtual machine. The 192.168.0.191 is an internal ntpd server configured by administrator, so i can not see what ntp server it synchronizes to or what is its time reference. Hi, folks, This is a test post; to make it of interest, here's an issue you might want to be aware of, those with not brand new hardware. We've got a few Dell PE R415s. A 2TB b/u drive on one was getting full, so I went to replace it with a 3TB drive (a WD Red, not that it matters.) We got the system in '11. I built the drive - a GPT, 1 3TB partition, on an R320, from '12. smartctl understood it perfectly well. Anything else, not so much. parted *crashed* When I managed to force it to see it without crashing - I think I had to create a new GPT, it only saw 2199G. Put the drive back on the other box, parted complained that the backup block wasn't at the end of the disk. I finally talked to Dell, and was told, and I quote, ... three terabyte drives aren't supported the raid controller installed in this server, the SAS 6 i/r. It likely worked fine in the R320 due to the age difference and the raid controller installed in it, I don't believe firmware updates will make the drive usable or extra space visible to the controller. snip IMPORTANT NOTE! Only the Dell H700 and H800 currently support the 3TB drives (H200 will add support later this year) - NO earlier controllers, such as the PERC4/5/6, SAS5/6 (or ANY other Dell controller not mentioned) have this support and in some cases, even though you may be able to see the drive, this has NOT been tested or validated, so possible data loss could be experienced. ONLY use the Dell H700 and H800 with the proper firmware to ensure a tested and validated 2TB solution! I've seen situations where people have put ntpdate in a cronjob to get around issues with big time jumps at boot or dodgy clocks under virtualization. There are much better solutions to this problem, so let us know if this is the case for you. put tinker panic 0 in your ntp.conf. Y como deshabilito ese sensor? no lo veo por ningún sitio ;( KDE lo he intentado muchísimas veces de utilizarlo pero no acabo de hacerme con el, y mira que lo he intentado pero no, no puedo jejejej Lo que me comentas de que es un problema de gnome, bien en la versión 20 alguna cosa han hecho para que deje de pasar no? algún parche podrán sacar no?? o al menos saber si se puede recompilar algún paquete de fedora 20 a EL7 para que deje de pasar esto! jejeje Me gustaría saber que tengo que deshabilitar ya que me hace mucha falta que mi maquina no se me quede congelada en los momentos cruciales que siempre es el caso Otra cosa que he observado es que cuando la velocidad de internet es extremadamente lenta o cuando conectas a una VPN y luego te desconectas es cuando también pasa esto de que se quede congelado la interfaces gráfica los servicios y lo demás continúan funcionando pero solo puedes mover el ratón y a esperar... Buenos días, Desconozco como mapear teclas en Putty, en el apartado Terminal - Keyboard no hay nada para este fin. Una cosa que seguro puedas hacer es instalar cualquier programita para windows que te permita mapear la tecla F1 como tecla intro, al fin y al cabo creo que haría lo mismo, lo único que perderías esa tecla en otros programas. En mi caso, como experiencia de centos: *Uso Centos 5.5 y normalmente lo configuro como Servidor de archivos y de usuarios. *Las versiones de Centos más actuales los use, después los usuarios me indicaban que estaba lento las trasferencia de archivos, la mayoría de los archivos son bastantes grandes, como planos, cartografías y demás de temas de oficina. *Después de 2 meses de probar y cambiar ciertos parámetros, seguía con los mismos resultados, decidí regresar a Centos 5.5 y todo volvió a estar a buen nivel en la trasferencia de archivos para los usuarios. *Uso CPU´s tipo (desktop) HP y DELL con discos de 1 a 2 TB, luego uso hardware del tipo servidor HP con Centos 5.x, y volaba la data. *¿Qué paso con Centos en versiones 6.x y 7.x?, no lo sé, ¿hay que modificar los parámetros en estas versiones?, puede ser, y supongo que es para aprovechar estas nuevas versiones, que no son actualizaciones. *Usando Centos como files server note la diferencia, ahora estoy planeando pasar a usar la técnica de cluster, tal vez no lo hubiera notado si usaba equipos de hardware de servidor de muy alta velocidad. Parece que a mas de uno le funciono deshabilitar un applet de sensores y reiniciar gnome. si te sigue dando problemas tal vez puedas usar KDE o Xfce. ahi mismo hablan que el error es de gnome y no de ellos. Alguna idea, creéis que con la 7.1 aumentaran las versiones de tal manera que se solucione el problema?? Este problema es el mismo que mucha gente se quejaba con Fedora 19 que es la referencia que utiliza CentOS 7. Espero vuestras respuestas para poder reportar los desarrolladores de CentOS ya que mi ingles es muy malo y lo he intentado pero ni me responden ;( Usas Gnomee, y su pruebas con KDE? Si jejeje, utilizo mucho la virtualización y también uso mock para recompilar paquetes, es más, tengo otro CentOS 7 virtualizado para estas cosas. La base de mi portátil el CentOS 7 esta intacta y solo tiene instalado un apache y un mysql por comodidad, todo lo demás lo hago con virtualización claro esta jejej! y respondiendo al tema de KDE... n esta hecho para mi, me estresa ese escritorio, no digo que sea ni malo ni nada pero a mi me estresa simplemente jejeje! It sounds like you are trying to blindly install a set of packages from CentOS 5 to CentOS 7. This is not going to work as there are numerous changes between those versions. You need to understand and consider what packages you need for your application and then track down the necessary ones that are available in CentOS 7. [CentOS-es] Ayuda samba windows xp

Hi Jim, Thanks for putting in the effort here. It's never a good situation to have to moderate, but sometimes it is necessary. From my perspective, this kind of thing happens far more often than the current example, though maybe not with such intensity. This situation forces me to evaluate if replying to any message on this list is going to be worth the headache of the inevitable noise that seems to get attached to almost every thread. I can say with certainty that there are many questions that I could've provided some help on, but did not do so simply to avoid the annoyance. I think it's something people have gotten used to, and only noticed in extreme cases. CentOS is unquestionably one of the most used Linux distros in the world, and yet the mailing list is relatively quiet. To me this is a symptom of a problem, and I feel that it's partially a result of the same regular people, only be virtue of the fact that they are regulars, acting as if this is their own personal living room instead of a public community space for collaboration and support. My ability to contribute to the CentOS community is limited. There's not much I can do as far as helping out with builds, testing, etc... so the main thing I can contribute is help and (hopefully) thoughtful discussion on the list. No hay necesidad de reportarlo, si alguien mas lo hizo, no estarás utilizando los repos de testing en centos, porque bugzilla dice que se produce con los paquetes de testing.
