true. i was thinking 'old school' slide drawer racks.

because i doubt that 'it' or 'heads of authority' will allow changes to
server racks, H's best bet is to get 'fixed base' or 'roll around' type
acoustic wall panels. they are available with various types of sound
absorbing covering and of various heights and widths.

one or two can be placed between him and area of rack to block/absorb
sound.

a cabinet like that needs 600 cubic feet/minute or more airflow.

now, I'm guessing that H's rack isn't quite this big, or as densely
populated, since its not in a dedicated server room, but still, it has a
lot more than a couple fans to silence. my rack there has 8 servers, 2

Not using an APC cable, just USB. It doesn't have an Ethernet connection,
just USB and a serial port.

Its an APC Smart 750. Not looking for run time, but a safe shutdown.

It may be worth upgrading. Checked Newegg the other day and they have come
down in price big time.

About time for another battery change anyway.

[CentOS] apcupsd-3.14.14

2016-12-24 Thread TE Dukes
Hello,

Looking for a apcupsd 3.14.14 rpm.

Been getting communication lost errors. I read there was a problem with the
3.14.12 version regarding a usb connection which I'm using, but has been
corrected in 3.14.14.

I found a Fedora 25 Rawhide src version, but the link must be bad. Was
hoping I could rebuild it for Cento 6.

Looks like apcupsd no longer producing the rpms.

I could build one from the source but would prefer to use an rpm.

TIA

There are rack chassis designed to reduce noise. An example are the APC

It shows what packages and groups you would need to install, and/or

to output in kickstart %package section format, so you can quite
literally copy and paste the output into your kickstart file.

To be fair, OP didn't specify a budget. Also, I typo'ed 'CS' should have
been 'CX'.

You can probably DIY a quieter rack for a lot less. There might also be
other companies with similar products for a lot less. I don't know, I
just remembered seeing the CX in the past.

thats really hard to do because the noise source is diffused, and
reaches your ears via multiple paths, plus your ears aren't at a fixed
location.

Its easier to move the servers to somewhere you won't hear them, like a
server closet that you can soundproof and add forced ventilation to.
or wear earplugs.

after looking thru above guide, it hit me that my
search was improper.

tried search again using single word 'kickstart'.

a big diff.

best of which;

  https://geekpeek.net/kickstart-file-centos/

shows step by step instructions with graphics of
the 'kickstart configurator'.

much better then what the red hat and centos
instructions show, and all contained on 1 page. ;=)

again, thanks for your help. you put me in right
direction and correct spelling.
