I don't know whether the below steps are permitted.
but, you can install RHEL 8.1 Developer Edition on a VM.
Download the SRPM for your package.
Then rebuild on the CentOS machine and install the RPM.
This is just for the important fixes like security.

In short and to sum it up, CentOS 8 in its current state has some
unpatched vulnerabilities. They have been adressed in RHEL since
October, but not in CentOS.

It's fair to say this raises a few eyebrows among concerned CentOS users.

[CentOS] Problems installing CentOS 8

2019-12-23 Thread Michael Eager
I'm having a problem installing CentOS 8 from a USB drive. When the
installer boots from the USB, it displays the language selection screen.
After I select English and continue, the installer freezes. The USB
drive flashes a couple times over the next minute or so, the stops. The
mouse moves the cursor, but the installer is unresponsive to either
selecting QUIT or HELP.

I've tried both the default and the basic graphic install with the same
results.

Details:
CentOS-8-x86-1905-dvd1.iso (sha256 verified)
ASUS Prime B350 Plus motherboard
AMD Ryzen 5 1600 CPU
32Gb DRAM
4 SATA drives in RAID/LVM configuration.
M.2 500Gb Samsung SSD (not formatted)

No. 8-stream is where packages will (eventually) be available to test software
that’ll be part of the next point release of RHEL. So, for example, before RHEL
8.1 was released, 8-stream had kernel packages with a version-release close to
what was eventually released in RHEL 8.1, and eventually into CentOS 8.1..

Re: [CentOS] CENTOS8: running wine 32 bits?

Epel8 provides wine, like for 7 but *not* to run 32bits.

Pablo Greco (CentOS armhfp maintainer) provides some compatible builds
(and following upstream epel, modified to be built for i686) on his
personal space (unsigned packages !) here :
https://people.centos.org/pgreco/wine32.el8/

Worth knowing that he also shares .spec here :
https://github.com/psgreco/wine

Just when writing this mail, I realize that while .spec is at correct
4.0.3 (so like Epel) the built packages are still at 4.0.2, so I guess
he'll take care of that soon :)

Cheers,

John, thanks for the hint. I'll certainly be giving that a try in the
near future (possibly today).

Took a brief look last night, using the USB input and only the input
tab shows "monitor" items, but not the output tab. And I'm not sure that
my analog input jacks on the computer are working, or at least I've never
been able to get them to work (hence the USB audio thingie), though I'll
take another whack at it and see if I can see what you describe.

Thanks forthe idea!

Yeah, I've done that with Audacity, when recording I can use its
monitor function to feed audio to the computer's audio out. And
I'll be doing that again in the not-far-distant future, as I have
hundreds of LPs around here, at least some of which I'll want to
digitize.

I have one other suggestion from another responder to check out
before I fall back to doing this.

thanks for the idea, though!
