Re: [CentOS] New laptop recomendation
I run Dell M7710 with 32GB, SSDs, and nVidia graphics. It wasn't cheap, but it's blisteringly fast. -- Michael Duvall <michael.duv...@ccur.com> Concurrent Computer Corporation ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org https://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos
[CentOS] CentOS iSCSI Install & Booting
I'm looking for direction to install and boot CentOS 7 from an iSCSI device. Any experience and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Michael Duvall ___ CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org https://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos
[CentOS] CentOS 7.2 Installation - Anaconda Installer Security Policy Configuration
The Anaconda installer now provides a "Security Policy", although selecting any of the available profiles does not seem to have much effect on the overall installation. Has anyone here had any success with using the kickstart file that is installed when "Pre-release Draft STIG for CentOS Linux 7 Server" profile is selected? The upstream vendor's security guide doesn't seem to offer much guidance. All accounts of trials and tribulations are appreciated. My goal is to install/verify (or as close as I can get to it) a STIG compliant CentOS 7.2 distribution. Thanks! Re: [CentOS] Is X79 Motherboard supported by latest Centos 5.9 version?
Hi Guys, In a bit of a pickle.. Is anyone running the latest Centos 5.9 or earlier version with an Intel X79 based motherboard. I have a server which needs the motherboard replacing asap and I have a spare Sabertooth X79. I have a machine with a Sabertooth X79 motherboard to test on which boots up fine on on Centos 5.9 i386 image from the troubled server. However the output from lspci (see below) seems far less descriptive than you normally see in Centos 5 or Centos 6. I am just a bit worried that this might imply lack of support. I do not need audio/firewire.. but need the essential to work memory, sata etc. Also I thought i386 installs could not see more than 3 and a bit Gigs of ram? The test machine has 32G and meminfo shows MemTotal: 3574676 kB MemFree: 3146556 kB Steve, You need to run a PAE 32-bit kernel in order to see more than 3.1 GB. I wouldn't be too concerned about the lspci output yet. Re: [CentOS] Slightly OT: PCIe x16 card in x8 slot
So, in the ongoing saga of the unusual 1U short-depth workstation, we have narrowed the field to two choices. Both entrants are configured with 16GB memory (4x4GB), two 2.5 drives (1x250GB SSD and 1x1TB HDD), and an NVIDIA NVS510 graphic card (quad display): 1) SuperMicro 5017R-MF, Xeon E5-2609 processor 2) SuperMicro 5017C-LF, Xeon E3-1220 processor (I wish SuperMicro had a list of their servers by chassis somewhere.) I have no preference between the solutions for right now, though I have a major concern with the second solution; the PCIe slot is only x8, and the NVS510 is a x16 card. The vendor assures me that a riser/adapter can be found to plug the card into the slot, and that it will work, but I am highly concerned about the performance. I know nothing about PCIe (I haven't built a system in 10 years, though I have read the PCIe Wikipedia entries and some guides); what kind of performance hit can I expect? Glenn, You choices are pretty much equal, although the 5017R-MF has the slower processor, but larger cache. Both have four core CPUs. I recommend going with the native PCIe x16 slot to take full advantage of the NVS510, especially if you are going to run four heads and your application is graphic intensive.
