During booting, mounting local filesystems [failed] is displayed among other errors which I am unable to see as the messages proceed fast. When I give the command cp file1 file2 then the error comes: cp: cannot create regular file `file2': Input/output error This occurs sometimes and it occurs when I am giving the command inside a external hard disk which is mounted by ntfs-3g manually. When seagate hard disk mounts on my laptop, nothing can be cut from the hard disk to the laptop. Nothing can be cut or copied from the laptop to the hard disk. After installing kmod-fuse rpm, I had given /dev/sda3/mnt/winntfs rw,umask=,defaults in the file /etc/fstab. Then I gave mount /mnt/win. But I couldn't copy files from system to the hard disk so I removed kmod-fuse by rpm -e command. I installed fuse-ntfs-3g rpm. The system is DELL laptop. So i am not sure if the cable of the internal PC speaker can be pulled. In preferences-sound-system beep, i unchecked the option enable system beep. I gave the command lpr NNInteraction_Poster.pdf, then typed lpq which shows MF4320-4350_(UFRII_LT) is ready and printing RankOwner Job File(s) Total Size active Ritika 636 NNInteraction_Poster.pdf549888 bytes After a while lpq command returns: MF4320-4350_(UFRII_LT) is ready no entries But no printout is there. During partitioning, when I created swap = 6GB then additional 4MB free space was created and when I created ext3 for linux=217GB, then additional 7MB free space was created. I did installation of CentOS5.5 in text mode and made changes at the following places in the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf : section device identifier : vesa driver:vesa section screen device:vesa Also in the file /etc/inittab I changed id:3:initdefault to id:5:initdefault so that I can boot linux in graphical mode. I had to make the changes in xorg.conf because the visibility of the graphics was so poor that it was impossible to work. The installation was done on Dell Inspiron N5010 with the chipset: Intel(R) HM57 Express chipset LPC interface controller 3B0B which is a part of Mobile intel 5 series The video controller is: Intel (R) HD Graphics Although graphics is there but the resolution and refresh rate are limited to 1024*768 and 0Hz, so I need to find the video driver. I had posted the following question 4-5 days ago. I want to add something to the question which is important. The question was: During installation of CentOS5.3 from DVD, the installation was interrupted due to an error in a rpm package as the DVD had lot of scratches. So I burned image of CentOS5.5 on DVD. I selected installation in graphical mode. The first graphical interface screen comes from where we proceed further by clicking next. This screen is almost black and its impossible to carry out further installation as visibility is very poor. I was trying above for Dell Inspiron laptop which has Windows7 installed on it. I checked the CentOS5.5 DVD on another system which is desktop and found that the graphical interface is perfectly alright there.
