+1
with EPEL this is what I use on my systems too (but disable the repo
after installation since they update fast)

for some reason cent 5 now wants cd 3 as well as 1. I make sure to

Choosing minimal installation (at the end of the page when you choose
custom installation) will give you a perfect working installation with
init:3 as default.
Then it's just a matter of yum install / groupinstall foo and inittab
editing to have a graphical environment available.

Just my 0,02€

That option doesnt exist with CentOS-5 :)

The latest one I did was last january, then cloned the machines via
clone-zilla ... probably it's then a remembering of the Scientific Linux
4.7 that I've installed last friday :-P

Ooops !

Hi!
I've resolved it checking (manually) the lastest version of yum and some
related packages:

yum-3.2.8-9.el5.centos.2.1.noarch.rpm
yum-fastestmirror-1.1.10-9.el5.centos.noarch.rpm
yum-refresh-updatesd-1.1.10-9.el5.centos.noarch.rpm
yum-updatesd-0.9-2.el5.noarch.rpm

which I manually updated with a yum localinstall ./yum-* command
after having *disabled* any other 3rd-party repository present in my
sources list.

Everything went ok after having done this.
Good luck (if you still haven't found a solution on this topic!)

  http://mirror.centos.org//centos/$releasever/os/$basearch

  please note the double /.

 The double / is harmless.
Can you use $variable here? Try inserting the right values

 centos/5.1/os/i386

It worked ... sorry to have bugged the list and thanks!
