Re: [CentOS] I want to make own pbx server

2013-10-29 Thread Chandran Manikandan
Hi,
Thanks for your advise. I want to make calls and receive calls only
internal head office and branch office only using desktop sip dialer. So
how to make it.

reinventing the wheel. roll your own telephony will suck up an
infinite supply of your time and energy, and likely end up with a system
that noone but you can understand and manage. you'll still need a PSTN
provider if you want to be able to make/receive outside calls from this
 system.

and yeah, asterisk.org is the building block that enables all this
 wonderful stuff

VERY COMPLICATED unless you understand telephony, numbering plans etc.
The * book is very good once you understand the basics. I have been

There are a number of web based * interfaces that help make the set up a

YMMV

I bet there's an Asterisk mailling list. This one is CentOS, and
Asterisk isn't really in scope.

You'll want a SIP or IAX2 provider for your Asterisk PBX to connect to.

+1 for pursuing further telephony questions on an Asterisk list

Without getting into a long off topic discussion about one Asterisk distro over

elastix, freepbx, AsteriskNOW, etc. because Ward Mundy (The guy behind
nerdvittles) and friends have done an enormous amount of the leg work required
to make this stuff Just work.

The other Asterisk distros while they have a lot of pros and
cons do not have the large pre-configured feature set that I need.

That is not to say the Nerdvittles stuff is perfect because it is far from it.
It is just that for my usage it is the best fit I could find.
