Amy,

Wiki username, by convention, is FirstnameLastname. In the wiki, CamelCase
words are treated as hyperlinks. So for example, AmyMarrich, wherever it
appears in the text, will be linked to wiki.centos.org/AmyMarrich
automatically.

However, I'm not here to force people to stick to the naming convention. If
you understand the potential consequences of not using the recommended
naming, I'd be happy to use any name of your choice.

As stated in "step 1. Build preparations", users are supposed to
follow the instructions in "Section 2 of I Need the Kernel Source".
Running "rpmbuild -bp kernel.spec" is included in there.

Thank you for the suggestion. After discussing this with the original
author of the article, the following description taken from the RHEL
documentation has been added:

"The file name /etc/grub2.cfg is a symbolic link to the grub.cfg file,
whose location is architecture dependent. It is better to use absolute
paths when accessing to a file, as in the example above, especially
when repairing a system."

Hi Carlos,

Thank you for offering to contribute to the wiki. I assume your wiki
name is CarlosNascimento. There is a frontpage in Brazilian
Portuguese:

https://wiki.centos.org/bp/FrontPage

It was last edited in 2015, so you might want to start with updating
that page. The Release Note could be another immediate target. If you
have trouble editing those pages, please let us know.

Hi Rich,

Because of the work involved, you'd often need to add people to the

I'm afraid that, if a photo contains identifiable faces, one would
need a permission to post from each person.

I like Fabian's idea of using the same image as the one for the wiki.
That image also has the "right height".

[CentOS-docs] Header image of blog.centos.org

2018-09-15 Thread Akemi Yagi
I noticed that the header backgroung image of https://blog.centos.org
was updated. This brought back some memories around couple of
suggestions (or "complaints") when the page was first set up. Fabian
thinks it's worth discussing this on the -docs mailing list. :)

One thing was that the header image of the page remained the default
one provided by WordPress. But no one was able to change it to
something nice, or CentOS-specific image. Either that or no admin
cared about it. ;-)

The other "issue" was that the height of the image was too big. On a
small device, it occupies 1/3 or even half of the screen estate. But
then, because no one got to modify the settings, this request has not
been fulfilled.

Since the first one has now been taken care of, it's a good time to
consider the second one. The current image is 980x240. Perhaps,
changing the height to 120 will make it acceptable ? By the way the
header image of the CentOS wiki page ( https://wiki.centos.org/ ) has
a height of 130.

I was about to post my view and found that it has just been said by Brian.
See the welcome page by RHEL:

http://toracat.org/attic/centos/apache-welcome-RHEL.png

It has a minimal amount of info about RHEL. After all, the whole
purpose of the test page is to let the admin know that he/she
successfully set up httpd. The page is not intended for the general
public. And for someone who does not know what CentOS is, there is no
point mentioning it.

The CentOS badge as suggested by Brian and perhaps the "CentOS has
nothing to do with ..." description quoted by Trevor will be all that
is necessary.

Now that your wiki homepage has been set up, you should be able to
create new pages under your page. You can use that to show your
modifications. For example, create an updated "ToDo" page with your
proposed changes so we can start discussion.

I personally would like to see an update to the current wiki. However if
this is not plausible, maybe an alternative like mediawiki can be
considered?

One note I want to make is that use of git may not be suitable/best for
docs and certainly will be frowned upon by some notable contributors to the
current wiki.

You can edit https://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum and also

Feel free to let us know if you need access to other wiki articles.

The very first time you requested edit rights for ru/, I added your
wikiname to the acl line of that ru/ top page. If I remember

Not your fault. I remember a similar incident with the GUI editor.
Wonder if that editor should be removed from the menu bar to avoid

That does not sound normal.

I have tried to "repair" it by first reverting the page to the one
before your edit and then by adding back the changes you made.

Please check the content. I wouldn't be surprised if I did not do it perfectly.

I agree with providing another pathway. More specifically, I am
against moving entirely away from the current way of editing the wiki.

Going for the git environment has its own merits as already mentioned,
but at the same time it would deter some people. Not everyone is
particularly fond of (or familiar with) git. I would not be surprised
if some of the existing wiki authors stop contributing if the direct
edit is no longer an option.

Hi Marcus,

Thanks for your offer to improve the page. It is out of date because I am

As you can see, "This page is currently being revised to incorporate the
appropriate details for CentOS 7." Is this something you are aiming at?
Alan and I (co-maintainers of the kernel articles) have been talking how
best to accommodate all three releases (CentOS 5, 6, and 7) without
cluttering the page.

I believe it works now. I had added the ACL to Storage/ and it should
propagate downstream. However I noticed there was an ACL line in
Storage/Gluster/ which overwrote the one added upstream. The latter
has now been deleted so hopefully that has fixed the issue.

Thanks for your offer to help with the Japanese translation. Before
doing a proper setup, I have one minor question. Your "Last name" (姓)
is Ooyama, I presume. So, your wiki name is expected to be
YosiyukiOoyama.

You don't have to change this if you are aware of the "reversed"
status. As a Japanese, in a way, this is a more natural way. For
people that are not familiar, in Japan our names go Last First. For
example my full name is "Yagi Akemi".
