[CentOS-docs] Fwd: Update CentOS wiki 8.1 Release notes
Hi all, I received this e-mail from Christer regarding dead links in the CentOS 8.1911 release notes. Can the maintainer of the CentOS 8 release notes determine what the best course of action is? Thanks. Regards, Timothy Forwarded Message Subject:Update CentOS wiki 8.1 Release notes Date: Fri, 7 Feb 2020 11:03:42 +0100 From: Christer M. Fekjan To: Timothy Lee Hi Timothy! I discovered three link errors (404s) in the 8.1. release notes. I registered a user for the wiki, downloaded and edited the file. As I have no update credentials, I hereby attach the updated file and kindly ask you to update the wiki. Of course I could always do that myself if I'm given the necessary credentials. I also attach a diff file. As you can see I suggest to move the link for known issues forward in the sentence, from "RHEL 8.1 release notes" to "known upstream issues". Just to let you know in case you have a different opinion and want to keep that unchanged. Thank you in advance, and have a great day! You use chcon to set up the SELinux contexts and this would be wiped out if a filesystem relabel is done. It would be better to use semanage fcontext -a -t samba_share_t '/mnt/data(/.*)?' restorecon -R /mnt/data as that not only sets the context now but also reapplies it if a file system relabel is done at some future point (and I believe that sometimes an update to the selinux-policy package will force one, though very rarely). The bulk of the changes occur when a new minor version is released, which happens about every 6 months. The accompanying release notes should be translated. Otherwise most changes happen because of kernel updates. One another thing, I wasn't planning in going back historically to change all that, I was considering starting from version 6 onwards. Yes, the code on that web page could be a solution to the issue on hand. According to its description, the code calculates and searches URLs that may contain translations for requested page, and lists any translation that do exist. Since this is performed for every wiki page, this solves the problem of leaving the current language namespace -- if translations are available for a subpage, they would be offered to the reader, regardless of current namespace. Of course, an extra click is required to jump back into the page with the desired language, but at least the option is there. I do have to agree with Ralph's e-mail about scalability. After looking more closely at the code, and considering that our wiki's URL form is much stricter, I think the use of a dictionary could be skipped completely during the calculation of URLs of translated pages.
