RE: Referencing a variable in a database
I believe the only way to execute code like that, from a database, would be to write the file using cffile as a *.cfm file, and then include the template. This can work okay. Bear in mind, that with CFMX this does not work as well since the page needs to be compiled and it will take longer. Are you saying that I'd need to save out from my form, basically, to a cfm page? And it would, perhaps, get overwritten each time, etc? I need to create a 200 pixel by 200 pixel graphic representation of data I have stored within a database table. Let me describe the specifics of the graph and you'll see the challenge. It might be easier to draw this out on paper as I try to describe it. The graphic is divided into 4 quadrants. Quadrant I, II, III, and IV - each having a scale from 0 to 100 pixels. The database hold 4 coordinates, one coordinate for each quadrant. Each point in the graph (four in total) should be attached together by a line. So each point has two lines attached to it. Ultimately the lines make a shape between a square and an obtuse rectangle. Essentially the large shape within the graph is made up of four interlocking shapes. Each of these shapes are made by the two lines from the point to the intersecting X-Y axis and are colored different colors (e.g.. Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue). The graph should have labels, but instead of the vertical and horizontal grid lines on the scale it needs two lines doing a big X through the middle of each quadrant. So I have attempted to make this dynamic graph using FlashMX but, I'm learning FlashMX from the ground up and its a challenge. I've read a couple of posts that talk about customer tags that generate graphics on the fly. I guess I wanted to put this project I'm faced with up on the list and see if anyone had some tid bits that could help me on my way. Maybe its not doable, but its worth a shot. Re: Strange occurrence
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought it was possible to hijack a session if a user knew another users cfid and cftoken variables. I have seen users pages get switched if a user emails another user a url to a page with the cfid and cftoken in the url line (e.g http://mydomain.com/file.cfm?cfid=1234cftoken=29282928) Would it be possible that the one user emailed the other user a link? I did have a lot of problems with session variables getting switched and with firewalls with CF 4 -- it has been a while and it could have been a locking issue at the time -- at any rate, there was a long thread in the CF forums about this and the only fix that I was able to come up with was to switch to client variables instead. You might want to search the cf forums, if the suggestions here didn't fix it for you. Tim P. - Original Message - From: Mark A. While speaking with our Service Desk who was attempting to log in as him locally his remote display brought up a page that would only have been displayed to the local Service Desk technician. To the best of my knowledge, there was no password information passed to the remote user (he still wasn't authorized at that point in our profile database.) How could he possibly received a page from our server that belonged to our internal technician? The remote user and the local tech are both situated behind two different firewalls from the server. RE: Referencing a variable in a database
However, when I add code of cfoutput#qClients.clientDirectory#/cfoutput/image1.jpg to the database, it doesn't display correctly--it instead shows the code. Of course not. Your asking CF to process/compile your code twice. Think about it, to do the above the CF app server would have to process the cfquery to get the data and then (re)process the data from the db to even 'know' there was a cfoutput in the data. I do not know much about what you are trying to accomplish big pictures wise, but seems like you should/could store the 'clientDirectory' as a session var (thinking you prob need it more than once). something like: cfquery Select * from someTbl Where clientDirectory = 'your way of identifying your clients'; /cfquery cfset session.clientDirectory = myQuery.clientDirectory img src=cfoutput#session.clientDirectory#/image1.jpg if your clients must login, set the session var(s) then. Are you talking commerical world? Here in the DoD world, its a given that you have to be compliant so all we put is a link at the bottom that says 508 Compliant or Accessbility Compliant and we link it to an information page. Oracle, Javascript Coldfusion
I have three javascript cascading drop down menus , how would I populate the fields from data in an oracle table called category_menu. I just would like to know where to start because this is not as simple as just populating a select field The table is tree structured so for example it would look like this, dont know if anybody has created a table like this before? but you should see how it all related from the structure below CATNO CATEGORY PARENT_LEVEL 0 SUPPORT 1 SERVER SUPPORT0 2 DESKTOP SUPPORT 0 1.1 COLDFUSION 1 1.2 E-MAIL1 1.21 OFFICEPOWER 1.2 1.22 EXCHANGE 1.2 As you can see from the actual working javascript cascading select lists attached that this is quite a complicated script, but how would you build that functionality into the dropdowns when all the data is generated from the database table ?? At present the values are hard coded into the javascript as a test, but the data will end up coming from the category_menu database table. Or is this actually possible do you need all of the javascript or can it be done through SQL? Again - check out the UDF I sent in earlier. As an FYI, you do NOT need to use evaluate to get dynamic values from a query. You can change Evaluate(QueryItem) to ItemSearchResultsSubSet[QueryItem][CurrentRow]. Hello everyone, i am reading a cookie created by an ASP page. Let's called the cookie aspcookie. The way the ASP cookie was made was using crumbs in the following way: == Response.Cookies(AffilPassedInfo)(cookieID) = data1 Response.Cookies(AffilPassedInfo)(ID) = data2 Response.Cookies(AffilPassedInfo)(tblID) = data3 == so, at the end, when i read the cookie in CF, it looks like this (w/o the quotes of course) == cookieID=1ID=1tblID=QQ_323s == I have gotten as far as breaking this into individual value pairs by looping through the list ( is its delimiter). OT: Javascript across windows
Does anyone know how to pass information between browser windows using Javascript (or anything else for that matter). Specifically, I'm using javascript to open a second browser window for a user to fill out a small form which needs to return the results to the creating browser window. The second browser window needs (unless someone has a better idea) to either be able to trigger a function or access form elements in the DOM to write the information. I'd happily post code if people want to see it, but since it doesn't seem to work at all, I didn't think it necessary. :-) All help is appreciated. --Ben Doom Programmer General Lackey Moonbow Software ~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribeforumid=4 FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Signup for the Fusion Authority news alert and keep up with the latest news in ColdFusion and related topics. http://www.fusionauthority.com/signup.cfm

RE: Section 508 Compliancy
No, there's no badge. If you want one for your product, perhaps you have an entreprenurial opportunity! As you probably know, the official site for 508 is: http://section508.gov/ (A CF/Fusebox site to boot.) I really like their simple Guide to 508: http://www.access-board.gov/sec508/guide/1194.22.htm They also have a FAQ that answers your question: ii. Does the Federal government have a 'logo program' indicating which products meet 508 standards? No. The Federal government does not currently have a section 508 logo (such as the Energy Star) that attaches to a product to indicate that the product conforms to the section 508 standards. iii. Are vendors required to post information regarding whether their products meet the Access Board standards on a web site? Couldn't this result in a compromise of intellectual property? Vendors are not required to post information regarding whether or not their products meet the Access Board's standards on a web site (unless they choose to respond to a solicitation, or are awarded a contract, that says otherwise). As a general matter, vendors may disseminate information addressing whether their products meet the Access Board standards in any manner and level of detail they choose. Vendors are encouraged to use the Buy Accessible website on www.section508.gov to facilitate the market research efforts of the government in identifying conforming products. However, they are not required to use this means of providing information to the government. The purpose of the website is to improve buyer awareness of those EIT offerings that meet all or some of the Board's standards, not to force the revelation of particular technical solutions. Generally, information the government has about a winning offer may be obtained by the public under the Freedom of Information Act unless the information falls under the exemption in 5 U.S.C. 552(b)(4) for business trade secrets and commercial or financial information obtained from a person that is privileged or confidential. iv. To the best of my knowledge, there was no password information passed to the remote user (he still wasn't authorized at that point in our profile database.) Re: Oracle, Javascript Coldfusion
Because it if you look at the javascript you will see how complex the arrays are. For example in the cfoutput for the arrays how would Coldfusion know where to put the categories where in relation to the select fields and arrays. For example if I selected Support from the 1st drop down, then all Support related entries would appear in the second dropdown, if I selected Server Support from the second select fields then the values in the 3rd select field would be values related to 'Server Support' And all of these entries would come from the category_menu table, which I described in the earlier mail My point being how do you build this intelligence into the javascript functions, it is complex enough when you hard code the values into the javascript, if they are being created dynamically from the database then it is much more difficult dont you think.? CFMX and SMTP
We've recently migrated one of our servers to MX and everything's been running really well. However, we've just come across the following issue: CFMX appears to be holding a lock on our mail server's SMTP process when sending mail. The mail server will eventually lock up and when trying to restart the services on the mail server, the SMTP service will not restart and we have to restart the server. The MX box is sending a couple thousand messages a day, spread out throughout the day. We are using Netscape's mail server. I understand that CFMAIL writes a file into the cfusionmx\mail\spool directory and that file gets picked up by a separate process which sends it to the SMTP server. Is this connection to the SMTP server held onto by CFMX? Any insight into the behind the scenes workings of CFMAIL would be appreciated. Any help would be greatly appreciated. RE: New Mail Notification in Outlook
Actually, I've got this configuration right now. I don't remember exactly what I did, but I get a ton of mail each day, so I created a rule that alrets me only of mail that has my name in the TO field. I think this overrides the default mail alert setting. Give it a try, if you can't find it, let me know, and I'll search around for the rule I set up. COM, J2EE the meaning of life
Very valid points from the Daves. I can swallow this explanation much easier than COM is dead. But it leaves me with the hanging question: What do I do if I can't abandon MS products? I mean even XP has COM under the hood. So far, Office 11 is going to be the first to try a native web service approach. (btw. Won't this cause security issues for home users?) So, until a whole new wave of MS products come out, what is the work around? I could setup another server running .NET and communicate via web services, but it doesn't seem to make much sense. Surely not a very scalable solution either. Not too mention, I'm now splitting my systems between two architectures. My confliction is that Office is a huge product. More than not, companies have Office installed on all of their workstations. We're seeing Corel kick up a bit more competition from their deal with Gateway and Compaq, but I don't think it's going to have much gain on Dell/Office hold on the business place. Now saying that J2EE cannot interact with Office is a big detractor. Every company that wants to move to a J2EE solution will still need to keep some NT boxes around. There just has to be some workaround in java. Has anyone come up with some .class files for manipulating office documents? Do you think it would be more stable to write the office interaction in c#, and use the CRL to compile into java classes? Technically, I'd still be at the same scenario of having java talk to COM, but maybe MS's java will reduce the complications. Although the CRL for Java was not very good the last time I used it. Has anyone tried this? So even is MS comes up with a replacement for COM, you basically jumping on the bandwagon of a technology isn't even in public beta yet! Waiting for office 11 is not a realistic solution for anyone. Upgrading to Office 11 isn't either. Gee upgrade your entire corporation to Office 11, or just move you web systems to .NET and continue to use COM. Again, if MM doesn't fix this critical issue, they will eventually lose the market. Again, with no proof of COM being axed on MS.com, I have to say that your facts have been skewed by MM and Fig Leaf. While you may disagree with my statements, I think I provided enough information to back them up. Nevertheless, I'll respond to this. First, Fig Leaf doesn't have a COM agenda. I stated my own viewpoint previously, and I don't claim to speak for Fig Leaf as a company about COM. I'd be perfectly happy if MS continued to support COM, and provide new COM stuff, and if all the COM stuff would work fine in the distant future with every new product and platform. I don't like rewriting code any more than anyone else does. But the hard fact remains that COM doesn't seem like it has much of a future, as far as I can see. Second, if you follow Microsoft technologies, you'll be hard-pressed to come to any other conclusion than MS is distancing itself from COM. Every month, I read MSDN Magazine, and I follow new MS product releases, and guess what? No COM in sight! Now, a year or so ago, there were plenty of articles on COM, MTS, COM+, and so on. Third, it's worth noting that the vast majority of COM component providers (Mabry, SoftArtisans, etc) are working on .NET versions of their products. If you want to know the future of a platform, look to the people who make their money directly from that platform, and you'll get a good idea which way the wind is blowing. Fourth, I suspect that the issue of COM support in CFMX just isn't all that important to MM, in the big picture. I think that they decided it was more important to have CF run on top of Java than to have backward compatibility with COM. I think they were right to make that decision (assuming they did). Fifth, Microsoft has a historical record of obsoleting their own software. I can't remember all of the times they've done this. The most recent example is that you won't be able to run Office 11 on Windows 95/98/ME. Sure, you'll be able to run your existing COM stuff on your existing platforms, but that's not much of a future. Finally, CF 5 isn't all that good a COM client, either, and while you can do stuff with individual, discrete COM objects like ActivePDF, it doesn't work well with COM hierarchies, or heavy usage of COM objects (typical middle-tier COM like you'd use with a well-architected ASP application). So it's not like we've lost all that much. Well CF5 didn't have COM issues. It was very easy to leverage to power of COM through Cold Fusion, and as a result, many of us have integrated COM

I'm getting closer, I like the AutoRead feature except that I would like someway to tell which messages I have actually read and which I haven't. I think the highlighting feauture would work, but how do you highlight a message a certain color? I don't see that option anywhere in the rules menu. I think FF = 1 Byte = 8 Bits AND = 8 Bytes = 64 Bits 18446744073709551615 = 2^64 However to account for negative numbers, 1 bit is used to determine if the number is positive or negative. So, if I'm correct, the upper limit would be 2^64 or ~ 9.22337 * 10^18 (I can't calculate the number exactly). If you determine the exact value of 2^63, you should be able to store this number, but 2^63 + 1 should not be able to be stored. ok9223372036854775806.5 is what I come up with, and that's fits, but kinda makes our logic a bit kludgy what we want to do is from a query, get that number, binary it, use the binary places as on/off switches for feature access, and then bitAnd() the re-done binary string against the full features number, to determine permissions so, not having to do that calc would have been cool, but rather than plan for 64 possible features, we might just assume 32 of them, and go from there. since the decimal value of a 32 bit binary string fits fine in the bigint datatype... whatcha think? ..tony Tony Weeg Senior Web Developer Information System Design Navtrak, Inc. OT: Info on a .Net course
Hi, I know this is off topic for a CF List but I was wondering if anyone in the New York/New Jersey area has taken an intro to .NET (ASP.NET). I need to find a course but everything I have seen requires previous knowledge of either APS or VB.NET or JSCRIPT.NET. My knowledge of these topics is very very lite - love my CF instead. I was just hoping that someone might have a good recommendation as I hate to spend the $1000.00's of dollar and be lost in the class. If you want to flame me for asking a .NET question on the CF list flame away, but I figured that someone has had to taken a class or two. Thanks Mario This message is for the named person's use only. RE: nrotbko: sql server big int
Personally I think bit-logic as a means of determining permissions for application features is over-complicated, difficult to implement and/or modify and seriously limits your options. But then, that's not my decision to make. :) My tendancy with roles and permissions is to use cross-reference tables which join a given role or user to a given permission. The upshot is that it's easy to implement, update, maintain and modify later, and eliminates any artificial ceiling to the number of features ( or alternately roles ) you can implement with security in your app. The downshot is that it requires slightly more storage, memory, etc. however, I think the benefit ot not constantly having to figure out if you have bit functions available to you in a given location, or what bit specifically represents a given role or permission, is well worth the small amount of extra overhead for the server. S. Isaac Dealey Certified Advanced ColdFusion 5 Developer www.turnkey.to 954-776-0046 ok9223372036854775806.5 is what I come up with, and that's fits, but kinda makes our logic a bit kludgy what we want to do is from a query, get that number, binary it, use the binary places as on/off switches for feature access, and then bitAnd() the re-done binary string against the full features number, to determine permissions so, not having to do that calc would have been cool, but rather than plan for 64 possible features, we might just assume 32 of them, and go from there. since the decimal value of a 32 bit binary string fits fine in the bigint datatype... whatcha think? ~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribeforumid=4 FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Signup for the Fusion Authority news alert and keep up with the latest news in ColdFusion and related topics. http://www.fusionauthority.com/signup.cfm

I've just installed MX locally, using the standalone web server. I did tell it to install the web files into a different directory(which it advised against). Now, when I bring up the administator page(http://127.0.0.1:8500/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm) and login, after log in I get a partial page, just the top logo section. Anything I should check? Turn off any popup-killers on your machine. Oracle Stored_Proc in MX
I'm working on a site which is doing a rapid conversion to MX (a week before going to QA, we ran into the Client Variable size limit in CF5 and under where the only workaround is Upgrade to MX). My code: cfstoredproc procedure=sp_mySP datasource=SQLDB username=x password=xxx cfprocparam type=In cfsqltype=CF_SQL_DATE dbvarname=startdate value=CreateODBCDateTime(1/1/2000) null=No CFprocresult name=Qtest /CFSTOREDPROC Thanks Rodney -Original Message- From: Weaver, Anthony [mailto:AWeaver;Limitedbrands.com] Sent: Thursday, November 07, 2002 10:07 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: Stored proc help make sure that your date CFPROCPARAMS use the SQLDATESTAMP type and use CreateODBCDateTime(your date). i get this often on date formats -Original Message- From: Bruce, Rodney S HQISEC/Veridian IT Services [mailto:Rodney.Bruce;HQISEC.ARMY.MIL] Sent: Thursday, November 07, 2002 12:04 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: Stored proc help Hello all I am trying to call a storedproc from an SQL 7 db. and I get this error. Does anyone know what it means. ODBC Error Code = S1C00 (Driver not capable) [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Optional feature not implemented I have tested the connection through CF admin and it tests ok. If I leave out a param. I get the error the param is missing. SO I think the connection to the db if ok. Thanks Rodney This usually means you're using cfsqltype=cf_sql_date ... change that to cfsqltype=cf_sql_timestamp and you should be good to go. :) S. Re: New Mail Notification in Outlook
I think the highlighting feauture would work, but how do you highlight a message a certain color? I don't see that option anywhere in the rules menu. Ahh... that might be an Outlook Express option I used to use Outlook Outlook all the time, but then discovered that I prefer Outlook Express to Outlook Outlook, particularly as I didn't use the scheduler etc etc in Outlook. Also, Tony, the AutoRead custom action that was mentioned earlier will get rid of the envelope icon in the system tray. Outlook Express doesn't have one of those, but I think the ordinary Mark As Read works like this in OE anyway ;o) Stephen. ~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=4 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribeforumid=4 FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq This list and all House of Fusion resources hosted by CFHosting.com.
