Re: CFTicket

2007-12-28 Thread Cedric Villat
Michael,

If you are installing the trial, it doesn't work on CF8 as-is. The reason is
that it was compiled under CF7, and it seems as though CF7 compiled files don't
play well with CF8. A few other customers also had this issue, and we have a
special CF8 trial version at:

http://www.cornfeed.com/index.cfm/go/download/file/cfticket_209_trial_cf8

The full version, since it's not encrypted, doesn't have this issue and works
across CF6-CF8.

Cedric

Does CFTicket work with ColdFusion 8? I tried installing 2 times and
 get the following error:

OT: Application Layout/design

2007-10-23 Thread Cedric Villat
Sorry for the OT topic, but I'm looking for someone who can do css-based web
application layout/design. This is just a small contract job. I'm looking
for something a bit Web2.0'ish (I know that is very generic). If you can
help, or have someone you can recommend, please email off-list.

Russ,

Check out the following thread:

http://www.coldfusionjedi.com/forums/messages.cfm?threadid=59AD010D-0ABA-C3A1-C2B63D5FCB8E3077

Seems there is a workaround. I have not tried it myself though.

Cedric

I'm trying to set the message-id for the mail that I'm sending out from our
cf server, but this code doesn't seem to be working. This is the sample
code that I've found while googling

cfmail from=[EMAIL PROTECTED]
to=[EMAIL PROTECTED] subject=test server=x.x.x.x
mailerID=Thunderbird 1.5.0.12 (Windows/20070509)

cfmailparam name=Message-Id
value=#createUUID()[EMAIL PROTECTED]

test

/cfmail

When the emails come in, this is the message-id:

Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

What am I doing wrong?

Russ

Re: Help Desk / Trouble Ticket recommendation?

2007-03-19 Thread Cedric Villat
Rob,

Looks like something hit our server Saturday or so, and caused it to become
very slow. Anyway, we are working on it and hopefully it'll be back up later
today or tomorrow. You can email me off-list if you want another link to the
demo which you can try.

Cedric

The www.cornfeed.com seems to have been down for the past 3 or 4 days.

I'm also in the market for a ticket system and would be keen to take a look
around this, I did look into building a custom system a while back but it's
quite a hefty project for what will essentially be a low traffic section of
my application.

I'll second this as one worth looking at. I used CFTicket in a previous job,
and liked it a great deal. I had to do some fairly extensive modifications
(primarily adding Oracle support, and also some other business-specific
features).

I found the code to be well organized and easy to work with, which is rather
important if you actually intend to make modifications.

Also Andrew, I think that CFTicket would work well for you based on your
privacy requirements. At it's core it's e-mail driven - each queue in the
system has a corresponding POP mail box. All e-mail correspondence is
between the requester and the system, and you can set fairly granular
permissions for each queue, so if it's a sensitive issue, you could put the
ticket into a restricted queue to limit who can see the requesters personal
info, and none of the people managing tickets ever has to have their
personal info involved (since the messages come from the queue address, not
an employee address).

We make CFTicket, which is written in ColdFusion and is open source (not free,
but affordable). You can see it at www.cornfeed.com. It sounds like it does
what you want, but you can check it out as there is an online demo you can play
with.

Cedric

Why would it have to be ColdFusion based? Do you want to extend it
 etc? Ray
Camden has one, I can't remember the name though... Lighthouse I
 think.

Yeah, Ray's Lighthouse Pro is great, but when I looked at it last (1
year ago) it didn't have what we needed unless I missed it. We need to
track email back and forth from customers, and I need to be able to
protect the identity of some of those responding. I work in the part
of the government that sometimes has to deal with check withholdings,
child support, etc. And sometimes people wanna make it personal :-(.
Right now our solution is to have the webmaster (i.e. ME) forward the
message on on their behalf, so *my* info is exposed! What is up with
that? :-) Uh, don't blame the messenger? And so I want it cf based and
open source so I can learn from the code and possibly modify it.

Re: multiple email addresses in cfmail TO attribute.

2006-08-17 Thread Cedric Villat
Andy,

I've always used semi-colons, but I think comma's are the proper way. The
reason I use semi-colons is because email addresses can be in the form of:

Blow, Joe [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Outlook does this all the time, and if you used a comma, I think things may not
work correctly if you use a comma as a delimiter. I suppose the same problem
would apply for semi-colons, but I've never seen an email address (or name)
with a semi-colon.

Cedric

I've never gotten a straight answer on how you can send one email to
multiple recipients.

cfmail from=#SiteOwnerEMail# to=[EMAIL PROTECTED] type=html
subject=New Order Submitted

Do I separate the emails with a comma or with a semicolon? Something else?

Re: Changes to files not taking effect

2006-06-27 Thread Cedric Villat
So after a lot of googling and testing on my computer, I figured out the
problem. It was my copy of ZoneAlarm which was updated and had a bug:

http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/information/zap/releaseHistory.html#6.5.722.000

Apparently, it was preventing the Date Modified from being updated properly,
which was exactly my issue. If anyone is using ZoneAlarm, I really recommend
updating to the latest version so you don't get caught by this bug like I did.
Not only does it affect the files I update, but also all AV programs won't work
well, since they rely on files changing to know when to scan them.

Cedric

I tried using the mapped drive and the path. Same thing. It isn't a
novell network, just a good ol' Windows 2000 server. I'm using Windows
XP as my local machine. I do use versioning, but I end up checking out
the code into a web accessible path on the server, which is where I
 then edit the files.

Still no luck :( Any other ideas?

 Cedric

Arg. Have you tried switching the way you map the drive? Using a
 path vs.
 the mapped drive?

It should work anywayze though, so that's kinda a weenie workaround,
 if it
 works.

The mapped drive isn't on novell by any chance? Bleh. Can't think of
 a
scenario where it would work from one app and not two others...
 anyone else
working with the same tools on the same mapped drive?

It doesn't solve the problem, but I'd recommend using some sort of
 version
control instead of working on a mapped drive, as an aside.

Welp, if anything springs to mind, I'll holler, nutt'n so far really

Re: Changes to files not taking effect

2006-06-26 Thread Cedric Villat
Anyone? I've narrowed the problem down a bit. It is very similar to this thread
from a couple weeks ago:
http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/messages.cfm/forumid:4/threadid:46408#243849
 .

Basically, if I edit the file remotely from my machine and save it on the
server (via a mapped drive), the changes do not take effect when I refresh my
browser. If I open the file on the dev server and make a change there, the
changes are reflected when I refresh the browser. Looks like the same sort of
Dreamweaver issue from the above post, except I am using Homesite/Eclipse and
not Dreamweaver.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is there an OS issue or maybe an
issue when using mapped drives?

Thanks,
Cedric

Hey everyone.

On my development server, all of a sudden when I make a change to a file and
save it, the changes are not reflected unless I stop and restart the
ColdFusion service. I don't have trusted cache enabled, nor do I have Save
Class files checked. I have tried different web browsers, different
machines, and cleared the cache on the browsers and still my changes are not
seen. This is a CFMX 6.1 server if it helps.

Has anyone seen anything like this before, or what I can do to solve it?

Thanks,

Cedric

cfchart problem

2006-02-28 Thread Cedric Villat
I am seeing some problems with cfchart on CFMX7. I have a bar chart that
shows up fine in CFMX6.1, but doesn't work in CFMX7. Here is my code:

cfchart format=flash

 scalefrom=0

 rotated=Yes

 gridlines=#queues.RecordCount#

 scaleto=#queues.RecordCount#

 tipstyle=mouseOver

 showlegend=No

 showygridlines=No

 chartwidth=200

 chartheight=#15 + 25 * queues.RecordCount#

 backgroundcolor=##F7F7F7

cfchartseries type=bar query=queues itemcolumn=QueueName
valuecolumn=TicketCount seriescolor=##A1E318

/cfchart

The Queues query looks like:

QueueName TicketCount

TestQueue8

The chart just doesn't show up in CFMX7.1. The correct flash code is
embedded in the page, it just appears blank. Can anyone try the above code
on the 2 CFMX's and see if they have the same issue? Or is there a known bug
related to this?

Re: cfchart problem

So it looks like the problem was because I had the rotated=true attribute in
the chart, and this was removed in CFMX7. Since the height was my previous
width, the chart didn't show up. Does anyone know how I can get my bar chart to
rotate 90% in CFMX7? I'm looking for a solution that works in both CFMX6 and
7.1.

My desired output didn't show up quite right. Anyway, I'm not trying to get rid
of CR's after tags.

Basically, this text has already been wrapped at some length (65 chars). The
problem is it was wrapped text was wrapped while taking into account the HTML.
I'm trying to unwrap the text, then remove the HTML, then re-wrap it so that
the text displays properly.

Cedric

Not quite sure what you are trying to accomplish, but I'll give it a whack.

Are you saying that any CR that happens right after a tag should not
happen, then:

!--- replace all tag/newlines with just tags ---
cfset newString=rereplace(str,[#chr(10)##chr(13)#]+,,ALL)
!--- remove all tags ---
cfset newString=rereplace(newString,[^]*,,ALL)

What is the contents of the actual cookie's being set's host/domain

Re: Losing session vars

2005-11-14 Thread Cedric Villat
Alan,

I have the setdomaincookies set to Yes, and even restarted the server in hopes
it would take affect.

Do I need to set this in conjunction with something else? I suppose I can dump
the cookie for both www.mysite.com and secure.mysite.com and make sure that the
cfid/cftoken are the same.

Any other ideas?

Cedric

Cedric,
Make sure you are setting domain level cookies.
 cfapplication name=MyApp sessionmanagement=Yes setclientcookies=Yes
setdomaincookies=Yes
That is the part of the cfapplication tag setdomaincookies=Yes
If you do not do this then your sessions are only available to the exact
domain you specify.

Re: Losing session vars

2005-11-14 Thread Cedric Villat
Thanks for the tip. I ended up using the Web Developer extension to just delete
the session/domain cookies, then retried everything and it worked as expected.

Thanks!

Cedric

Tha should do it.
Any yes, you should be able to just dump the cookies, or if you have
firefox installed you can get a really great extension set for it called the
Web Developer extension set 0.9.4. It allows you to view the cookies you
have set on your browser and it will show you the exact domain they are set
for.
I am assuming that before you set your app to set domain cookies, your
session cookies domain was
  www.mysite.com http://www.mysite.com
Now it should look like this
 mydomain.com http://mydomain.com

Losing session vars

2005-11-13 Thread Cedric Villat
Hey all. I'm having an issue where visitors to my site are losing their
session variables when I transfer them from www.mysite.com
http://www.mysite.com/ to secure.mysite.com. Basically, all of the
session vars are lost, including the fact that they are logged in, items in
their cart, etc. Short of adding the CFID and CFTOKEN to every link on the
site, is there a way around this? I already have setDomainCookies set in my
cfapplication, hoping that would fix it, but no.

Anyone have any ideas how to solve this issue of losing session vars?

Thanks!

Re: OT: text editor that allow a tab

2005-11-11 Thread Cedric Villat
How about inserting some code behind the scenes yourself?

For example, when they hit the tab key (you can use javascript to catch the tab
key), insert the code span id=tabnbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;/span and then
afterwards replacing each span with the tab id with a real tab?

I assume these people are submitting the form to make sure the query works, and
then if so, they are given the actual code? Just an idea.

Cedric

Well im looking for an actual tab character.

See im working on a tool im wanting to release to the community, its a
query browser that lets you test out queries in a page. I developed
it for a company I am consulting for and they have found it pretty
useful. It basically just has textarea, and most of the time people
seem to be copying their sql code into it which will retain their
tabs, but there is no way to insert a tab in while writing directly
into it. Its just a much asked for feature that I dont think is
possible, but just wanted to check. But I dont want it to insert code
of course behind the scenes, I need it to be an actual tab.

Re: Trouble Ticket Application

2005-10-24 Thread Cedric Villat
Chris,

While not free, we sell CFTicket. It's a trouble ticket/help desk program. We
offer a discount for non-profit organizations too. It is completely written in
CF and is open-source. You can see a list of features and try out a demo if you
want at www.cornfeed.com.

Feel free to email me off list if you have any questions.

Cedric

I've been working on building a system for logging help request calls
for our nonprofit organization. It dawned on me that I'm reinventing
the wheel and that what we need is a help desk/ticket tracking system
that could be adapted to our specific needs. Since this will come out
of my hide (time), I'm wondering if there are any free / open source
help desk/ticket systems already out there. One that is developed in
CF would be better than some other language, but I'm going to be
 practical and open-minded about it.

Thanks in advance if you know of any such apps that exist.

PayPal is not an option at this point, as I have been burned by them in the

It was setup, in Active Server Pages, by a previous web developer that

CFPOP errors

2005-09-28 Thread Cedric Villat
I am getting some errors when using CFPOP to retrieve email. The errors seem to
happen even when I only get the headers. The errors are like:

javax.mail.MessageRemovedException.

or

sun.io.ByteToCharBig5.getIndex1()[S

I tried wrapping the CFPOP in a try/catch block in an attempt to find which
email is causing the problem and delete it, but I just get the regular
ColdFusion error instead of my cfcatch executing. Anyone else every have these
errors? They are occuring very frequently, and are usually because of a
malformed auto-response, or some strange Chinese encodings/emails.

Anyone have any ideas, other than using something other than CFPOP? Yes, I have
the latest JDK installed to, as I followed the instructions from

2005-09-28 Thread Cedric Villat
Paul,

I thought I was locking, but I just checked and it was commented out. Doh. I'll
see if adding it back makes the RemovedException error go away.

Any ideas on the encoding issue? Is there something to test with or debug on
this one?

Cedric

Are you using CFLOCK to make each account access single threaded?

Something like

cflock name=youraccount type=exclusive

   cfpop action=getheaders

   !--- process mails ---

   cfpop action=delete

/cflock

That way if a user requests the page twice, the getheaders and delete calls
won't tread on each others toes... That should fix your issue with the
MessageRemovedException errors you're getting.

Re: OT: Mail server

I'm using Windows, because it's the only machine I have here to play with :)

Cedric

Personally, I kind of dislike smartermail... granted I'm not using the
latest version, but we've switched over from smartermail to sendmail (on
linux). There are just too many issues in the implementation of Sendmail.
For one thing, the administrator can go and view everyone's passwords. Not
sure if this was fixed in a later version, but this is a no-no in my book.
Also the way it handles aliases made it create thousands upon thousands of
folders on our windows server, and we all know how well windows handles
thousands of folders.

I know it doesn't help if you have to host on windows, but u never know, it
might be an option for you. Sendmail has been the standard for mail on
linux for a long, long time, and its' not that hard to set up if you're
using webmin or something. You can always throw up something like
SquirelMail for webmail, and you're set. And you won't have the
performance/security issues of smartermail.

Why are you looking to host it on windows in the first place?

Re: Mail Management Program

Rey,

shameless_plug
This sounds very similar to our product CFTicket. It has threading, keeps
history of customer contacts, allows you to reply/delete/forward all emails
from the server, etc.

You can take a look at it at http://www.cornfeed.com. There is an online demo
that you can try, as well as a trial version (if you have CFMX 7+).
/shameless_plug

The only problem you may have is that the subjects have some identifying string
in it, which you may/may not like.

Cedric

Hi Guys,

We're interested in purchasing a mail management application that will
allow us to handle our mail-based customer service needs.

The system would need to be able to read in mail from our mail server,
store it into a database and allow us to reply, forward, delete, and
maintain a conversation history of our replies to our clients with
proper date/time stamping on all events. It would also have to provide
user based security so that we could limit the type of functionality
that specific customer service reps could see.

We'd prefer for this solution to:

1) Include modifiable and easy to understand source code (not interested
in Fusebox-based solutions at this moment)

2) Preferably be CF based.

Anyone know of a solution like this?

Rey...

Re: Paging through records

2005-08-31 Thread Cedric Villat
Dave,

This approach doesn't work if you have gaps in your keys, such as after you
delete a row. For example, in my case, if your ID's were 1, 51, 101, etc. It
would return the first 50 entries, regardless of what their ID's were. In your
case, the COUNT doesn't tell you the ID's of the records you are looking for.
So if your first query returned 100, and you then queried for records with ID
50 and ID 100, you would only get 1 row, instead of the 50.

Unless I missed your point completely :)

Cedric

I agree with Isaac. The first query could even be:

 cfquery name=TotalCount
   select count(id) as TheCount
 /cfquery

Wouldn't this make the first query even faster as it's not returning x
records, it's only returning ONE record and then you can reference
TotalCount.TheCount instead of .recordcount the other way? It seems
this would make it even more efficient.

Yes, it's true that if your table is small, that this could end up
taking more time, but the whole idea is to handle tables that are
large, not small, so this to me seems the most efficient.

  Not in this scenario.
You have to select ALL records to extract or output the
  ones you want.

  So my original example was

  1. query all the required records
  2. output the ones you want

The one your saying is better

  1. query all the required records
  2. query a subset of those records
  3. output the records.

Thus an extra step to produce the same output. Of course
  querying the
database a second time is going to take up more memory for
  the 2nd query and
take longer to process. If you don't believe me, just try
  it for yourself.

That's gonna depend on the indexing... the first query returns only
the primary key column (which cuts down on time to execute) and the
2nd query has only the one primary key column filter in the where
clause, which is presumably faster than searching on other columns
 (at
least, it definately will be if the db's indexing is done properly).
So it's possible the 2 query approach in this case could actually be
faster... Consider that in the alternative single-query approach,
you're returning x number of columns on y number of records that
 won't
be used, which will create drag just like the additional query does
 --
but this 2 query approach also has advantages which reduce the time
 to
complete each query, so... the end result will vary.

Re: Paging through records

2005-08-31 Thread Cedric Villat
Isaac,

This won't work either, because it is possible that some of the ID's between 2
and 52 did not match your original WHERE clause in the first query. Say
qry1.id[1] was 2 and qry1.id[50] was 10,000. Then in your second query, you are
pulling almost 10,000 records, instead of the 50 that you wanted! Again, this
is why my original post used the ID IN () to only get the records you wanted.

I went through this discussion by myself about a year ago when I came up with
this :) Funny to see everyone has sort of the same though process. Also, this
solution works independent of the DB, whether it be Access, MySQL, etc, since
no sub-queries are needed.

Cedric

cfquery name=qry1 ...
select id from mytable where ...
/cfquery

^ gets all id's for applicable records in the table -- we knew this

cfset startid = qry1.id[1]
cfset endid = qry1.id[50]

^ this does rather assume that you're using either autonumbers or
another sequential numeric identifier for id's in that table, however,
at this point, you now know the first and last ID of the first 50
records... so for instance if the table started with id 1 and you
deleted 1 and 5, you would have

startid = 2
endid = 52

cfquery name=qry2 ...
   select * from mytable
where id between #stardid# and #endid#
/cfquery

^ (no queryparam's I know) ... at this point, since startid is 2 and
end-id is 52, you're actually getting the first 50 records (52-1 = 51
then subtract the one from the middle, record 5 which was also
deleted, gives you 50 records)

 Dave,

Unless I missed your point completely :)

cfmail not sending messages

2005-08-31 Thread Cedric Villat
My server is acting strangely today. Whenever I use cfmail to send out some
mail, it goes to the spool folder, but sits there for about 1 minutes and then
goes to the undeliverable folder.

I looked at the CF mail logs, and it showed that an error occured, but the
reason for the error was blank. No nothing, nada. That doesn't help me. There
were some mail server changes recently, but I have no idea how to go about
debugging this issue since there is no error. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Paging through records

2005-08-30 Thread Cedric Villat
What I do, and it seems to scale pretty well, is to run 2 queries. The first
query simply pulls the ID's of the matching rows, and the second query pulls
all of the data only for the ID's that were queried in the first query. Example:

You want to get results 51-100 of your query:

cfset start = 51
cfset end = 100

cfquery name=ids
SELECT ID
FROM myTable
WHERE a 5 and b LIKE '%test%'
/cfquery

cfset toGet = ArrayNew(1)
cfloop from=#start# to=#end# index=a
cfset ArrayAppend(toGet, ListGetAt(ValueList(ids.ID), a))
/cfloop

cfquery name=all
SELECT *
FROM myTable
WHERE ID IN (#ArrayToList(toGet)#)
/cfquery

Yes, you do 2 trips to the DB, but the first query is quick and will match all
of your search parameters. Then you just get the ID's that you are interested
in (where in the results the user is). The second query is more time consuming,
but gets only the records you want. This seems to scale well into the hundreds
of thousands of rows, as long your first query doesn't return too many results.

You can obviously make the CF code more efficient, but I just threw this
together.

Cedric

Like pretty much everyone else, I have always used the following method for
paging through result sets,

cfoutput query=whatever startfrom=#startfrom# maxrows=#maxrows#

And altering those variables to allow 200 records per page or whatever,

But this means querying ALL records form the database each time, which can
be very excessive when your dealing with a very large database.
Has anyone come up with a good solution of only querying the records you
actually need (rows 40 -59 for example).

CFC's and limiting DB queries

2005-06-09 Thread Cedric Villat
There was a post last week about limiting db queries when using CFC's that
return array's of objects, or something to that affect.

My question is, how feasible is this? For example, if I have a Team CFC, which
has a method of getTeamMembers(). I want this method to return of Person
objects. I can then loop through this array and do whatever it is I want to do.

The problem is if the getTeamMembers() method has to initialize each Person
CFC, and the initialize function makes 1 DB call to get that users information,
I could potentially be making 10-20 DB calls just to create my TeamMembers
array. This invariably gets worse if the Person CFC has another method which
runs the init() method of some other CFC.

Is there a better way to do this? Like only initializing the data when it gets
accessed? Or running a specific query which will populate an array of Person
CFC's so it is only 1 DB hit? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Cedric

Re: CFC's and limiting DB queries

2005-06-09 Thread Cedric Villat
Barney,

This is pretty much what I was wanting to do. I think your first post was the
most helpful. I suppose I will implement it right now so that all Person
objects are initialized when the getTeamMembers method is called. If/when the
bottleneck arises, it shouldn't be much more difficult to implement the lazy
loading scheme in the Person object itself.

Thanks for the suggestions, just wondering what other people did.

Cedric

That is definitely true. But Cedric didn't say he was passing the
result of getTeamMembers to a display page. What if he was just
needed to invoke some method on all the members of the team (like
giving them a point for playing in a game last weekend). Then you
definitely need the actual Player objects.

Not that that's what he's doing, but he didn't specify one way or the other.

cheers,
barneyb

Re: Case-sensitive Struct keys

2005-02-22 Thread Cedric Villat
Dave,

Any ideas on how to do this? The reason I originally did it in a struct, was I
could simply find the properties of a word, since it was the key. If I organize
the data as an array of structs and have the word value be a key in my struct,
wouldn't that require more overhead when searching for that word? Do you have
any code that would quickly find a word if this was the case?

Cedric

The probabilities the words free and FREE would be
different. But when I stick them in a structure, the
 values get overwritten.

Perhaps you should use a different model for your data. As you say, free
and FREE are values. I would recommend organizing your data in such a way
that you use them as values rather than as variable names.

2005-02-21 Thread Cedric Villat
Ade,

No, 10.24 is ok and the period should stay. The only time the period should be
removed is when it does not appear between 2 numbers. These are examples of
where the period should stay:

5.5
50.50
5.50
50.5
a5.6
5.6a

But the following should be removed:

a.1
1.a
a.a

Anything beyong the immediate characters around the period are not important.

Thanks,
Cedric

What about 10.24? Would that have the full stop(period) removed?

would be safe, but would miss (say) a.5; you don't say what you want

My inclination would be to do it in three bites: replace the periods you
*want* to keep with a character guaranteed not to be in your string, say
SOH, (you can always do a zero'th pass to strip such out), replace all
remaining periods with spaces and finally restore the periods you want:

temp=rereplace(foo, ([0-9])\.([0-9]), \1#chr(1)#\2, ALL);
temp=replace(temp, .,  , ALL);
bar=replace(temp, chr(1), ., ALL);

It's not what you asked for, but it *is* only one regexp :)

That makes sense. I get an error though, as it complains about the ?. What are
they for? I thought the ? was the 0 or 1 occurances operator.

Also, would this cover things like:

12.2.12.12 ?

I noticed that my current regex of
m = REReplace(m, ([0-9])\.([0-9]), \1|\2, ALL);

generate 12|2.12|12. I assume this is because the pointer after the first
replace has passed the single 2. Is there a way around that too?

Thanks!
Cedric

 Assuming CFMX:

 rereplace(text,(?(.)\.([^0-9]))|(?([^0-9])\.(.)), \1\2, all);

Not tested, YMMV, there are a lot of parens and it wouldn't surprise
 me
if I'm off somewhere, etc. But the basic idea is to check for either
 a
non-number before or after the dot.

Case-sensitive Struct keys

2005-02-21 Thread Cedric Villat
So I guess CF doesn't support case-sensitive keys in a structure. For
example, given the following code:

test = StructNew();
test.a = 5;
test.A = 10;

I would have hoped that 2 keys would have been made, a and A, but
instead only 1 key is made, and has a value of 10. Is there anyway to have
CF use case-sensitive keys so that I could do something like the above to
get 2 keys?

Thanks,
Cedric

Re: Case-sensitive Struct keys

2005-02-21 Thread Cedric Villat
Michael,

The reason for this is because I am implementing a Bayesian filter CFC. In
doing so, I create a hash-table of words and their probability of spam. The
probabilities the words free and FREE would be different. But when I stick
them in a structure, the values get overwritten. Vince's hashtable is really
what I'm after.

I guess either I can use the java hashtable as the solution, or do as Issac
suggested and hash() the key names myself.

Cedric

 From: Cedric Villat [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Why would you want to do this? Keys/Variables with varying names only by
case is NOT a good idea regardless of language. Even though CF doesn't mind,
other languages do, especially Java! Build good habits now to avoid problems
down the road should you venture into other languages. Also, varying case
variables makes code cumbersome to read!

Sorry about our site being down. It should (hopefully) be up by the end of the
week. If you have any questions or want me to setup a personal demo for you
until the real demo comes back online, just let me know.

Also, you should be able to log support calls by creating tickets manually from

Like I said, shoot me an email offline if you have questions.

Whatever happened to CFTicket? Are they still around? Is the application
worthwhile for low-medium volumes of customer support?

If not, can anyone recommend another CF (or other) web-based customer
support tracking application?

form action to CFC problems

2005-02-17 Thread Cedric Villat
Something strange has just happened. I have a form where the action points
directly to a CFC. This was working great until today. Now when I submit the
form, the page gets redirected to the Component Browser Login page. The only
thing I can think of is that I installed CFMX7. Has anyone seen this? Anyone
have any idea why this started happening or how to stop it so my CFC responds
normally?

Thanks,
Cedric

Re: form action to CFC problems

2005-02-17 Thread Cedric Villat
Michael,

I changed the form method from post to get so that it passed the form
fields via the URL and magically it started working. What is interesting is
that I am still running this site on 6.1, but CFMX7 is installed on that
machine on the built-in webserver.

Does it make sense that the behavior of my form/cfc would change when running
on the same CFMX 6.1 instance, just because I installed CFMX7 on that machine?

Cedric

From: Michael T. Tangorre [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Did you confirm your mappings and locations to the CFCs? Nothing else
changed? You have the hidden form field method?

I overlooked something in CFMX 7. Seems as though the method name is
required in the URL on the action of the form now...
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/coldfusion/7/htmldocs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/
wwhelp.htm

I did not notice this in CFMX 6.1... but then again, I never called a CFC
method this way either.

Anyway, not sure if that's your problem, but it may be.

Re: form action to CFC problems

2005-02-17 Thread Cedric Villat
I tried that originally, but then the CFC complained about not being able to
find the other form fields. Strange but true :-/

Cedric

I would switch it back to post and just add ?method=methodName to the action
url.

Example:

CFC: bookstore
Method: getBook()

form action=bookstore.cfc?method=getBook
...
   input type=hidden name=method value=getBook /
/form

SQL - LIKE vs. =

2005-02-16 Thread Cedric Villat
Ok, so I'm seeing something interesting. I have a field in my MSSQL which is of
type TEXT. I have a query that looks like:

cfquery name=ThreadChk
SELECT ThreadID
FROM Threads
WHERE Header LIKE cfqueryparam cfsqltype=CF_SQL_LONGVARCHAR
value=#emails.header#
/cfquery

This query will return 0 results. Now if I change the field in the DB to be of
type VARCHAR and do something like:

cfquery name=ThreadChk
SELECT ThreadID
FROM Threads
WHERE Header = cfqueryparam cfsqltype=CF_SQL_LONGVARCHAR
value=#emails.header#
/cfquery

This returns 1 record. The #emails.header# contains some carriage returns. That
is the only thing I can think of that is causing the second query to work and
the first query to fail.

Anyone know for sure if this is the reason, or is there something I'm missing?
In the first query I tried placing the %'s around the var, but that didn't
change anything. How can I compare these values if I want to keep the field as
a TEXT type?

Thanks,
Cedric

Sourceless deployment = EAR/WAR?

2005-02-12 Thread Cedric Villat
Am I right to assume that when I hear abour sourceless deployment in CFMX7,
that that really means creating a EAR/WAR package? The thing is I find it
overkill to distribute an application with basically a fully functional
CFAdmin, etc. Is there just a way to create a sourceless package that people
can use on CFMX7? Something like the old encrypt method for files, but
obviously more secure? I haven't seen any details on if this is possible,
and if it is, how to do it.

Anyone know if this is do-able?

Re: query paging UDF or CFC

2005-01-31 Thread Cedric Villat
I made one called CF_PageList which creates the Next/Previous links and the
pages very much like Google. It'll move the page range as you go through the
links. Check out www.cornfeed.com for a demo and the download.

Thanks,
Cedric

Hi,

I usually add my custom code to CFML templates that return a lot of
records from a db query to add the paging functionality (next/previous
page buttons).

Is there any UDF or CFC that can be easily plugged into any CFML
template that requires paging functionality?

I checked the cflib.org and cfczone.org web sites, but no luck.

Any hint to write my own code to achieve maximum re-use?

Thanks.

Directory where Application.cfm resides

2004-11-28 Thread Cedric Villat
In my Application.cfm file, before the cfapplication tag is defined, I'm
trying to get the absolute path of where the Application.cfm file sits. So
far I've tried GetBaseTemplatePath, ExpandPath(.), and a few other tags to
get the directory path. I can seem to get the right directory if the calling
page is in the same directory as the Application.cfm. If it is in any
subdirectory, that is where I am getting the problem.

If the structure looks like:

c:\inetpub\wwwroot\Application.cfm
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\file1.cfm
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\directory\file2.cfm

Basically, I want to get c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ BEFORE the cfapplication tag is
defined. This needs to happen to matter what template is called, whether
it's file1.cfm or file2.cfm. Like I said beofre, GetBaseTemplate for
file2.cfm would return c:\inetpub\wwwroot\directory\ not c:\inetpub\wwwroot\
.

Any ideas?

Cedric

Name can't be empty error?

2004-10-07 Thread Cedric Villat
This error has just popped up on a clients machine. They rebooted, and now when logging into their app, they get the following error:

 name can't be empty

The error points to a query inside of a CFC. Though I noticed that if I put a cfabort right AFTER the arguments are defined but before the query, the error still occurs. If I put a cfabort right before the function is called, no problem. What does this error mean? I assume the problem occurs somewhere between when I call my function, and when the function starts executing.

They have tried restarting the CF server and no luck. Anyone seen this before?

Here is the function that the error is thrown in:

cffunction name=authenticate access=public output=true returntype=boolean
cfargument name=Username type=string required=Yes
cfargument name=Password type=string required=Yes

--- ERROR HAPPENS HERE EVEN IF I PUT A CFABORT HERE.

cfquery name=user
SELECT	UserID AS ID, FirstName, LastName
FROM	#_application.config.TABLEPREFIX#SecurityUsers
WHERE	Username = cfqueryparam value=#Arguments.Username# cfsqltype=CF_SQL_VARCHAR AND
Password = cfqueryparam value=#Arguments.Password# cfsqltype=CF_SQL_VARCHAR
/cfquery

cfif user.recordcount eq 1
cfquery name=permissions
another query here.
/cfquery

cfset instance.ID = user.ID
cfset instance.FirstName = user.FirstName
cfset instance.LastName = user.LastName
cfset instance.RolesList = ValueList(permissions.Name)

cfreturn true

cfelse
cfreturn false
/cfif

/cffunction

Only Username and a Password arguments as you can see. Like I said, if I abort immediately within the function, I still get an error.

Cedric

Without seeing the code I would say that the function in your CFC
requires an argument named name and it can't be empty.

Bingo, that was it. Now to figure out *why* it became blank. Thanks Raymond.

It normally means the value you are using for datasource is empty. Ie,

cfquery name=foo datasource=#dsn#

and dsn is an empty string.

Re: Changing text in undelivrable .cfmail file and resending

2004-10-06 Thread Cedric Villat
The reason this wasn't working is because you are not writing the file back out. After you ReplaceNoCase the mail server, you need to use cffile to write the file back into the undeliverable folder.

Though your solution of creating a new cfmail would be just as easy, if not easier, to implement.

Cedric Villat
http://www.cornfeed.com

Hello all,

About 1000 emails (.cfmail) are sitting in my Undelivr folder because
I've got the wrong mail server set. With a simple change on the 2nd line
of every .CFMail file, these email files would be OK. Using code from
evolt, I've managed to replace the offending line with the correct mail
server and set it as a variable, but writing it to the .cfmail file is a
different story. Or is it? If I could write this change to the file, I'd
be good to go. Is this possible using CF or any other program?
Hopefully, I'm missing something simple. (I'm using CF 5).

The code below does everything I want it to except modify the file
before moving it to the Spool folder. Thanks in advance for any
assistance.

Re: CFPOP streamlining

2004-06-21 Thread Cedric Villat
One thing that I came upon when using CFPOP and deciding which method to
use, is that if you are using CFMX there is a nasty bug that deals with
encoding. Check out
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg149313.html for
some information. I know Raymond Camden also wrote about this bug on his
blog. See it here:
http://www.camdenfamily.com/morpheus/blog/index.cfm?mode=entryentry=437EFED9-B15B-8957-860C45AFE6E30A4D .

Basically, if an email comes in with he unsupported encoding type, anytime
you try to do a GETALL with CFPOP, it will break. The only way to recover is
to delete the offending email some other way. Due to this bug, all of our
CFPOP apps now describe your method of retrieving the headers, and then
downloading each piece of email one at a time.

junk and correspondence aimed at the human who reads the account.

I am currently doing a cfpop to retrieve the headers only, then looping
over
these doing another cfpop for each to get the message body resulting in
200+

Would it be better to just do one connection, retrieve everything, and
simply ignore to 100 message bodies I am not interested in?

 Thread:

If your db supports it, you can use INTERSECT

 SELECT TicketID
 FROM fields
 WHERE FieldID = 1
 AND Value = '5'
 INTERSECT
 SELECT TicketID
 FROM fields
 WHERE FieldID = 2
 AND Value = 'Hello'

Alternatively you could use group by (supposing (TicketID, FieldID) is
 unique)

 SELECT TicketID
 FROM fields
 WHERE 0 = 1
 OR (FieldID = 1 AND Value = '5')
OR (FieldID = 2 AND Value = 'Hello')
 GROUP BY TicketID
 HAVING COUNT(TicketID) = 2

 You can also use subqueries
 SELECT *
 FROM tickets
 WHERE 0 = 0
 AND TicketID IN (
SELECT TicketID
FROM fields
WHERE FieldID = 1
AND Value = '5'
 )
 AND TicketID IN (
SELECT TicketID
FROM fields
WHERE FieldID = 2
AND Value = 'Hello'
 )

I didn't want to type to much, so there are some modifications you
 should make to the code:
 - Use cfqueryparam everywhere
 - Don't use SELECT * but specify the columns you want
 - In the group by example COUNT() has to be the number of fields you
 want to search on

TicketIDFieldIDValue
11 Hello

21 Hello
23 Boo
32 5

What I want to do is select the TicketID's that have a (FieldID = 1 AND
Value LIKE 'Hello') AND (FieldID = 2 AND Value = 5). In this case I would
want Ticket #1 returned. But obviously, this string does not work in the
WHERE clause of my query. What I'm wanting to create is a search where
people can search different FieldID's and their values, and ONLY those
TicketID's matching ALL of the specified fields/values will be returned. I'm
having no luck doing this as each value/field pair is its own row. Besides
using CF to manipulate the data, can I do this in SQL?

Remove multiple carriage returns

I have some text that I need to remove multiple line breaks from. For
example, if my original text is like this:

 Hello

I want the text to be replaced with

Basically I want to clean it up so there are no blank lines. Is there a
simple regex or something else to do this? I'm not sure that there will
always be a in the front, I just want to remove the blank lines.

What does everyone use/recommend? Doesn't have to be CF specific,
commercial
or opensource is fine as well.

We are thinking of implementing one at our company for our clients and I'm
just starting some prelim research and figured I would ask here first.

Re: CF-Talk: Digest every hour

2004-04-20 Thread Cedric Villat
Chris,

I actually just finished doing something like this. It allows for different
divisions (age groups) and then teams in every division. You can create
divisions, teams, and then create games for those teams. You can re-schedule
games, have field information, etc. It will also calculate standings based
upon the results of the game you entered. There was also a bit more for this
site as they wanted it, but the game information could be taken out.

If you want a demo or have questions, email me offlist and I'll do my best.

 Hi guys,

is it possible to put a cfloop inside a cfloop?

Maybe there's a easier way to do this but basically, like on Google you
can see the linked numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, etc the amount of pages which
have records on.You can click on them instead of having to keep clicking
on 'next' throughout the search.

I have the following code i made:

 tr
 cfif isDefined(url.startresults) and url.startresults GT 9cfset
prevresults = url.startresults - 10
 td colspan=6 align=righta
href="">
class=MessageAlertprevious 10/a/td/cfif
 cfif isDefined(url.startresults) and DisplayEnquiryList.RECORDCOUNT GT
(url.startresults + 9)cfset url.startresults = url.startresults + 10
 td colspan=6 align=righta
href="">
ut class=MessageAlertnext 10/a/td/cfif
 cfloop index=i from=1 to=#DisplayEnquiryList.RECORDCOUNT#
step=10
 cfoutputa href="">
class=MessageAlert#i#/a/cfoutput
 /cfloop
 /tr

It basically shows the records in groups of 10, and displays a 'next' link
and 'previous' if applicable depending on whether there are that many
records to show.

In this case there are about 54 records so my CFLOOP displays links in
steps of 10:

 1 11 21 31 41 51

But i would instead prefer them to be page numbers like 1 2 3 4 5.

Can i make a CFLOOP inside that CFLOOP to count the page numbers or is
there an easier way?

 Thanks,

 Stuart

Parsing HTML Email

2004-02-26 Thread Cedric Villat
So I'm using CFPOP to retrieve email messages and I'm storing the HTML
version of the emails in the database. I'm then parsing the email on
display, but I want to remove any sort of HTML formatting. I've tried 2
methods, and neither seem bulletproof.

First try, I remove all HTML tags from the message using the StripTags udf.
Then I converte all Chr(10)Chr(13) to br for display. This seems ok, but
the StripTags tag seems to remove things BETWEEN tags, so divHello/div
would actually be removed from the message. Not ideal.

So my second try was to use a RegEx to remove everything contained in a
and and also change the carriage returns to br's. Again, this seems ok,
but the output doesn't always come out as desired or the way it *should*
look in plain text.

Is there an easier way to get the plain text version of my stored message?

Hey Folks,

We just released the first beta of CFTicket 2.0. For those who don't know,
CFTicket is a customer support, trouble ticket application. This new version
uses CFC's and therefore requires CFMX.

We are having an open beta test for anyone who wishes to test. Just
download, install, and presto. We are looking for feedback on features and
any bugs that people find.

You can find more information at http://www.cornfeed.com/beta/ . If anyone
has any other questions or has trouble installing CFTicket 2.0, feel free to
contact me directly off-list.

Getting rid of subquery

Can anyone help me with getting rid of this subquery?

cfquery
 SELECTCount(t.Status) AS Count, StatusName
 FROMTicketStatus s LEFT OUTER JOIN
(SELECT Status

ON t.Status = s.StatusID
 GROUP BY StatusName

Right now, all of the StatusNames are shown, even if their count is 0. I've
tried just about every join I can think of and it always returns the
StatusNames that have a count greater than 0. I want ALL the StatusNames,
even ones with a count of 0. Anyone?

Odd cffile behavior

2004-01-16 Thread Cedric Villat
I'm using cfpop to check mail and download attachments. I'm saving the
attachments cfpop gives me to the GetTempDirectory() value. I'm then trying
to use cffile to move the file where I need it to be. The problem is that I
keep getting this error:

Attribute validation error for tag CFFILE.
The value of the attribute source, which is currently
C:\CFusionMX\runtime\servers\default\SERVER-INF\temp\wwwroot-tmp\flow3.txt
, is invalid.

I know the file is there because I can see it, and I also use FileExists on
the same variable that I'm passing to cffile and FileExists says the file is
really there. Has anyone seen this or have any suggestions? This is a local
drive to the server. Anyone?

I had the same problem with disappearing session vars. Not sure if this
applies to you or not, but I had this same thing happen to me when I had an

img src=""

As soon as I put something in the src, my disappearing session variables
went away. This may have been 6.0 only, not sure though.

I'm stumped and I hope someone can help me.I have a user login
application set up which has been working fine. Now, out of the blue, the
session variable I use to test whether the user is logged in seems to be
either resetting itself or timing out rapidly. The result is that I can log
in and see the main menu, but then when I click any other link I'm getting
redirected back to the login page. This used to work fine, so I would
assume that maybe it's just me...I did just download a new firewall so who
knows. But, I had the same problem about a month ago on another site---same
user login code I've been using forever, and testing was infuriating because
sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't, or it would work fine for
me but not for someone else; in that case, I thought maybe it was an MX
thing since I had just upgraded, but the site causing me my current problems
is still on 5.0.I did a Google search and I see other people posting
similar problems with session variables sometimes timing out for no apparent
reason, but no one seemed to post a solution.Any ideas? Thanks!

Re: SQL Server 2000 and Pagination

2003-12-22 Thread Cedric Villat
Calvin,

I use a combination of 2 queries, which are VERY fast.

cfset start = 50
cfset end = 75

cfquery name=ID
SELECT t.TicketID
FROM Tickets t
WHERE 1 = 1 AND whateverelse
/cfquery

then

SELECT t.TicketID, etc.
FROM Tickets t
WHERE 1=1 AND same whatever else from above
AND t.TicketID #ID[TicketID][Start]# AND
 t.TicketID #ID[TicketID][End]#

Basically, this gets ALL the primary keys from the table I'm grabbing from.
Then the second query grabs only the page you are on. So if you wanted to
grab rows 50-75, the first query would return all rows (can be a lot, but
should be fast), and then the second query would only select the ones where
the ID was greater than the 50th entry of ID's and smaller than the 75th
entry of ID's. This seems to work great for us, and executes in under 1
second for even large queries.

 Happy Holidays!

I'm curious how folks are implementing pagination using SQL Server 2000
and avoiding returning entire recordsets to CF.

In other words, if I have a search result set of 1,000 rows, and the user
will be walking through that recordset 25 rows at a time using prev
pagenumbers next methods, how are folks limiting the result set to only
the current 25 rows needed to display.

Select Multiple and GET forms

2003-12-22 Thread Cedric Villat
I have a form with a select box that can have multiple selected. The form
method is GET. What is happening is if my select box looks like this:

select name=foods
optionPizza
optionBurger
optionSalad
/select

If I select Pizza and Burger and submit the form, the url has the following:

foods=Pizzafoods=Burger

If I try and then use #url.foods# all that is returned is 'Burger'. How can
I get these values comma separated, such as foods=Pizza,Burger. I know this
is possible with checkboxes, but what about with a multiple select?

Re:Select Multiple and GET forms

2003-12-22 Thread Cedric Villat
Charlie,

Thanks. There was actually a small bug in my code. You are correct though, that outputting the var actually does give you a comma-delimited list, even though there are 2 values in the URL. Something in your post made me realize my problem. Brainfart on a Monday :) Thanks.

Cedric

 Cedric:

on the form's action page, you can loop over the #cgi.query_string#
variable, using the character as a delimiter:

 cfset foodList =

 cfloop list=#cgi.query_string# delimiters= index=i

 cfset foodList = listAppend(foodList, listLast(i, '='))
 /cfloop

 cfoutput#foodList#/cfoutput

...
and for whatever it's worth, in CFMX a querystring like this actually
 does return a comma delimited list...so cfoutput#URL.
foods#/cfoutput would give you the list you expected (just in case
you were looking for that *one more* reason to upgrade): )

Selecting consecutive records

2003-12-11 Thread Cedric Villat
In MySQL there is a LIMIT function when selecting records. This allows for
an beginning row and then to select the next N rows. Is there an equivalent
function for MSSQL or Access? It LIMIT a standard SQL function? If not, what

JOIN help

2003-11-14 Thread Cedric Villat
Ok, I need some help with a join. I'm close to what I need, but its not
exactly there. I have some a table called Queues which is basically an
account. Then I have a Users table with my users. I then have a third table
which allows for Users and Queues to be linked together. Here are sample
tables:

Queues
IDName
1 Queue1
2 Queue2

Users
IDUsername
1 User1
2 User2

UserQueues
UserIDQueueID AccessID
120
212
221

As you can see, in the UserQueues table, user 1 is only linked to Queue2. He
may not have a link to Queue 1. What I need is to select User 1 and ALL
Queues so I get a result like this:

UserID QueueID AccessID
12 0
11 NULL

Here is my query now, but all it returns are rows in which there are entries
in the UserQueues table.

 SELECT Q.QueueID, AccessID, Q.QueueName
 FROM Queues Q
RIGHT JOIN SecurityXrefUserQueues XUQ
 ON XUQ.QueueID = Q.QueueID
 WHERE XUQ.UserID = #url.uid#

Anyone have any idea how I can get the above result that I need?

Obviously that doesn't work, but is there a way to concatenate the 3 ints to
create a date in the select statement like that?

OT: Legal?

2003-10-08 Thread Cedric Villat
Ok, a client of mine has gone nuts. He is an agent for a few celebrities,
and I had offered to create a site for one of his clients free-of-charge
provided I was the one running the site. He has now decided to go to another
designer, and wants me to give him the site, which as I said he has not paid
for.

Now, there is no written contract saying that I would do it for him
free-of-charge, so I guess he has me there. But at the same time, since
there is no contract saying I would do it free-of-charge, since he hasn't
paid me, he is not entitled to the site. I told him if he wanted to pay me
for the work, I would give it to him, but he keeps threatening me of legal
action. Am I wrong here or is he really entitled to the site? Anyone know
anything about the law in this case?

Re: Legal?

2003-10-08 Thread Cedric Villat
Well, the domain name HE owns. He has since transferred it to a different
host. The website I designed was actually online for a while, but he didn't
pay the host so he was canceled. So all that I did was design the site, for
free, provided I run the site. He is now threatening to sue me, but who
knows. Any ideas? Should I contact a lawyer?

Multilingual site?

2003-09-23 Thread Cedric Villat
Ok, so I need to make a site that supports multiple languages. This means
that the db information can be entered in English or French in my case. What
do I need to do so that accents and whatnot are stored and displayed
correctly? Also, I want to keep all the strings used to describe things on
the site in a separate file so that if a person choosed French, then all the
text changes to French. How do people currently do this? If there is some
documentation or something that outlines how to do this, I would appreciate
it.

Re:Multilingual site?

2003-09-23 Thread Cedric Villat
Paul,

What is a resource bundle? I'm not familiar with them.

Also, what is the best way to store all the strings needed to display for a particular
language? Should I use a separate table for each language, or just flat text files (I
would assume no, since accents and whatnot may not work)? Any ideas?

Cedric

1) use mx (redsky).
2) if you even dream about using non latin-1, use unicode encoding from the
start
3) use a db that supports unicode (and is supported by mx).
4) use a resourceBundle for your strings, cache these as appropriate

SOT: Homesite+ docs problem

2003-09-22 Thread Cedric Villat
So I completely re-did my machine this weekend. After reinstalling Homesite+
and updating to 5.2, my Homesite docs are all plain text. For example, if I
go to Help-Open Help References the help files show up fine with the HTML
all intact (Though I couldn't find CF help in there). But, if I go to a tag
in the code and hit F1, the help opens up to the correct tag, but all the
HTML has been stripped. I can see the text, but there are no links, no
nothing as far as HTML goes. Anyone heard of this? I've also updated to the
6.1 tag defs but that didn't fix the problem. Any ideas?

Recursion and Scope problem?

2003-09-18 Thread Cedric Villat
Ok, I'm doing a bit of recursion, and my variables seem to be overwriting
themselves, which makes no sense to me. Here is my code:

cffunction name=getDTreeWidth returntype=numeric
 cfargument name=node type=string required=yes
 cfargument name=level type=numeric required=yes

 cfset root_node = Arguments.node
 cfset levels = Arguments.level
 cfset children = Request.children
 cfset width = 0

 cfif levels EQ 0
!--- No more levels to show ---
  cfset width = 1
 cfelseif NOT StructKeyExists(children, root_node) OR
ArrayLen(children[root_node]) LTE 0
  !--- No Children ---
  cfset width = 1
 cfelse
  cfloop from=1 to=#numChildren(root_node)# index=a
   cfset width = width + getDTreeWidth(children[root_node][a], levels - 1)
  /cfloop
 /cfif

 cfreturn width
/cffunction

In this example, the root_node is Homer Simpson. He has 3 children Bart,
Lisa, and Maggie. When the function is first run, Arguments.node is Homer
Simpson. It goes through the code until it gets to the recursive call
getDTreeWidth() which then calls itself for each child. After calling
getDTreeWidth() for Bart, it seems to work. When the function returns a
number and is added to the width, the next time through Homer Simpson's
loop, the root_node is now Bart Simpson! How could the recursive call to
Bart Simpson overwrite Homer Simpson's original arguments? Is this a bug or
am I missing something here?

Any help would be appreciated. It may not make sense, so let me know if you
need some more clarification.

Re:Recursion and Scope problem?

2003-09-18 Thread Cedric Villat
Bingo, worked like a champ. But I'm still wondering WHY the scopes be overwritten? I
just don't get it

Cedric

Try using the var keyword in your first four cfset statements.

cfset var root_node = Arguments.node
cfset var levels = ...

%children is an associative array (hash/struct) dereferenced using the
syntax $children{key}.

%line is also an associative array.

 $children{key}'s value is an array.

In CF, %children is a struct that contains arrays for the value at each
key.

 That is,
 cfset children[my_key]=ArrayNew(1)
 cfset arrayAppend(children[my_key],my_value)

Ok, sort of off topic, but I'm trying to convert a perl program to CF. I'm
stuck on a line and have no idea what it's equivalent is in CF. The line
is:

 push @{ $children{$line{p1}}}, shortname($line{node});

I assume $children is an array, and $line is a single line of an input
file.
What exactly does the $children{$line{p1}} mean? How are they indexing
an
array based on a string? Any ideas?

Does anyone know of a ColdFusion family tree program that shows hierarchal

I have checked the gallery and saw nothing there. Do you have a demo of your

I've built something similar for a lot auction package, but I'm sure others
have
something more exact. Have you checked the MM tag gallery?
