[Chat] the 33rd street Giant aka Store (0303)

2010-10-05 Thread Daniel Grayskull
Last week my mother decided to go to the Giant on 33rd street.
while shopping she was approached by two different people asking for money. She
went to customer service  to ask to speak with a manager and she was not only
ignored but treated rudely.
Since then I have filed a complant via the Giant Food website (
www.giantfood.com )

Has anyone who else filed complaints?

Its sad that when it first opened it was a nice place to go shopping but then
went drastically down hill in less than a year.

[Chat] Anyone who may have been born in Puerto Rico

2010-03-02 Thread Daniel Grayskull

I came upon this bit of info last night and found it on the AP website. The
Gov't of Puerto Rico passed a law stating that any one who was born on the
island and issued a birthcertificate on the island, that persons birth
certifucate is null and void and must be issued a new one on or after July 1st
2010.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100227/ap_on_go_ot/us_puerto_ricans_birth_certificates_6

I am very surprised that this has not made the major news outlets like CNN, FOX
or MSNBC. Something like this will affect millions of people. Not only People
living in Puerto Rico, but People who by chance were born there either because
they are military dependants (as in my case) or because their parents were
there due to work or some other reason.

Until this hits the major networks, please inform anyone you may know who was
born in Puerto Rico.

also Thanks everyone for your suggestions regarding photo developing, when I
find a place that is affordable I will send out the info.. much appreciated

[Chat] LOST CAT

2010-01-03 Thread Daniel Grayskull
A few days ago I posted  regarding a cat that appears to have been lost (with
Pictures). It is a long hair (maine coon looking) cat with a predominate black
gray pattern on its back, and a mostly white uder belly.  The cat also has a
green and blue collar.

I also asked around the neighborhood if they know of anyone who has lost or has
mentioned someone who has lost a cat.

Given the fact that it is very cold and windy, and also the fact that my
husband and i can not take the cat in, we have decided today to take it to the
SPCA in Hampden.

I will check these forums again before we head out to the spca at 11am

I remember one time hearing a while back on NPR that Klingon is slowly getting
up there in the number of people world wide who speak it.

I never have come across anyone who knew how to speak Esperanto. Except for
that one odd movie Incubus with Pre Star Trek William Shatner, I never even
heard it spoken.

Out of all the created languages, I prefer Quenya aka Tolkien Elven.

Hello, neighbors,

Today, December 15th, the Google website

displays the green and white flag of the Esperanto movement
to honor the 150th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Zamenhof,
creator of the world's most successful planned language, Esperanto.

Esperanto has speakers across the world and ranks in
Wikipedia's top thirty languages as measured
by the number of entries written in Esperanto.

Believe it or not, NO reaction from our elected and government personnel to my
Sunday rant about the contempt of court case concerning the abandoned house at
300 E Lorriane!

I'm now interested in how much tax revenue we have all lost from this house
continuing to be taxed at an owner occupied rate, when in fact, its been
completely abandoned since 2004, and the owner has been in contempt of court
for six months.  Despite a $500 per day fine imposed last November, she was
allowed to pay property tax of just $650 in February: something is seriously
out of sync in the city government, or the owner knows the right people at City
Hall.  Paul

2009-04-21 Thread Daniel Grayskull
As a dog owner, I am a firm believer that no matter how friendly your dog is,
or how well trained she/he maybe. Your Dog should always be on a leash when
taken out beyond your private property.

No matter how well behaved, conditioned, trained your dog is, he/she is still
an animal that can become unpredicable.

I love my dog, and I know how well behaved and great he is with people and
other animals. But he is an animal incapable of directly telling me or anyone
else what he is thinking or what is upsetting him and gods only know what goes
on in that little peanut head of his, and frankly I never want to take that
chance if he decides to go nuts.

And I agree with the previous comments that certain people should not be
allowed to have dogs. Its because of iresponsible folks who let their dogs run
unleashed (at manytimes un collared) and dont pick up after the dog messes, and
that responsible dog owners like myself and others in this forum have to
suffer for it.

When the herds of dirt bikes are once again infesting the streets.

Yesterday I was riding my bicycle when I got knocked down and almost run over
by what I would describe as a stampede of dirt bikes  going against traffic
near Howard and North Ave. (closer to 20th street)

A couple of police vehicles showed up and that scared the dirt bikers away, but
I was told by a friend on the commuter train this morning that the Police in
the city dont really chase or arrest these guys who are obviously breaking the
law. Is this true? , because if it is I find it very disconcerning that an
obviously dangerous and illegal activity (To the people doing it and passers
by) such as this is not being dealt with.

I have heard things like, There is to many of them or Its hard to catch
them

I mean these dirt bikers have no concern for the cars and pedestrians around
them, damaging property and what not.

Has anyone had any problems with the Dirtbikers?

I have already called the police department and given them a complaint about
it.

It is unfortunate that a Police Officer doing his duty can risk the city being
sued because of the illegal antics of a few stupid idiots. Its sad that we live
in a culture where the word Sue has mutated from an everyday noun into an
instant verb.

I have seen them during the summer going in allyways, zipping between traffic,
endangering the lives of no only them selves (non of them that I have seen wear
any armour or protective headgear) but of motorist and pedestrians alike.

A part of me wants them to get an epiphany/common sense what have you and
decide to stop or go to areas where they are allowed to use their bikes.
Another part of me.. the Darkside of the force if you will wants a few of
them to all crash into each other.

God forbid if one or a few of those bikers crashed into an Ambulance or into a
group of children.

p.s.

God forbid if anyone broke into my home and attempted to harm my family. I
would never kill, but I would make their illegal entry into my home their worst
mistake and nightmare.

The problem is catching them. Police would need dirt bikes themselves. Then
there is the  problem of accidents. If one of the dirtballs I mean bikers got
killed  during a police chase the police would get blamed and maybe sued.
Similar to if you defend yourself in your home(castle doctrine), shoot the
intruder who dies, then the family can sue u the home owner.
These dirt bikers will go down alleys, walkways, in between houses. The police
can't do that. It's uncivilized. The best to hope for is that they get
hit by cars while performing their antics.

Re: [Chat] [Discussion] retractable dog leashes

2009-03-31 Thread Daniel Grayskull
GREAT ARTICLE!  I'm going to pass it around to all my friends who have dogs.

I have a dog, and one of the first things the worker at the SPCA told us is to
never use one of those retractable leashes when walking our dog.

Not only are they dangerous to the person, but also to the dog. I was told
about instances where the walker of the dog would accidently let go or the
spring mechanism would give, flying out of the person's hand and hitting the
dog  in the head causing it major injury or death.

I use a regular leash (about 6ft long) with a built in handle.

Besides regular leashes are more affordable then those fancy retractable ones.

Joan Floyd wrote:

Steve, please feel free to post this brief report:

Last night, the Benefits District held its annual 'hearing' on the proposed
budget for 2009-2010, which was passed out to those in attendance.

The 'cash-strapped' and 'limited' Benefits District will ONLY be asking for an
increase of 16% percent in surtax revenue over last year, when the increase was
ONLY 18% over the prior year, according to 'Executive Director' David Hill, who
is asking for $65,000+ for himself, not including benefits.

The figures that were posted on screen, mentioned and handed out in paper
format do not match your statement.

Apparently, no one is suggesting a downward adjustment of the surtax rate to
fit with current economic realities.
You know perfectly well that any changes to any rates must bedone according to
bylaws and that it is the City that finally decides, not the Benefits District

Has there ever been a Benefits District budget hearing that was more poorly
attended by the public? Not in my recollection. The staff, Board members and
'special guests' far outnumbered the 'regular folk.'

Many of us regular folk, have lives. Many of us Regular folks like myself have
jobs and in somecases have far commutes. I almost did not come to the meeting,
I came directly from work. I did so , so I can get the information first hand
and pass them on to my neighbors given that many of them due to previous
obligations were unable to attend. One neighbor was unable to attend due to the
fact she was out of state, and My own Mother was unable to attend because she
has the flu.

Supposedly the Board meeting to approve (rubber-stamp? ) this larger-than- ever
surtax budget will take place on Tuesday, April 14th at 7:00 pm at the new
Benefits District office on St. Paul Street.

This meeting , like all meetings are posted on the website. I will certainly be
there.

When asked for verifiable qualifications for all voting Board members,
including the address of the property owned, David Hill responded in a way that
suggested he does not believe we 'regular folk' are entitled to that
information.

Again , were we at the same meeting? Mr. Hill stated that if anyone wanted to
contact other members they can send an e-mail or call and it can be forwarded,
and if those people wanted to respond they can do so. You made the suggestion
that the persons personal e-mails and home addresses be posted on the site. Is
the Mayor's personal home address on the Baltimore city website? ..no. In this
day an age of identity theft and stalkers, if I was on the board I would not
want my personal home address posted on a website where someone might find it
and Gods know what could possibly happen.

When asked what number of voting Board members is considered a quorum, and what
number of votes is considered to be needed to approve a budget, 'President' Ron
Griffin first declined to answer these basic questions, and quickly became very
un-presidential in front of the staff, Board members, and 'regular folk' who
were in attendance.

Of all people .. You know for a fact that the question you asked is something
related to the current law suit (brought by you) and that Mr. Griffin was in no
position to respond given the litigation at hand. It seemed like you were
backing him into a corner for a response you perfectly well know he could not
have nor was he under the authority to respond to. Your question was not only
unethical, but also shows in my eyes that you wanted to back him into a corner.
Any lawyer would inform you of that.

'Regular folk' to Mr. Griffin: You are not the 'President' of a private
organzation. You are the 'President' of the Board of a small local government.
You don't get to keep this kind of information close to the vest.

Regular Folk to  Mrs. Floyd, you don't represent all of us regular folk,
you especially do not represent me, my family or my friends. We can represent
our selves individually, perfectly fine, thank you.

And so it goes.

End of Line...

Peppermint oil is best used indoors as a rodent deterrent.  I’ve used it
effectively in quantity with spearmint oil to deter mice.  You need high
concentrations.  The amount required is very noticeable to the human nose.
The fragrance dissipates quickly outdoors, and the larger rodents still go
about their business.  A bed of peppermint is a reasonable approach if you have
an area that can be dedicated to its invasive habits.  In combination with
spearmint , it can help during the growing season.

Neighbors used predator urine (available online and from several types of
predators at Valley View Farms) to drive out a rodent infestation from their
yard.  Rodents emigrated to other yards, which simply spread the problem..  The
correct way to use such a deterrent is to diligently bait the rodents until
they are gone.  Then this deterrent may be used to keep new infestations from
returning.

I hope that everyone in the neighborhood will join in the campaign to keep the
neighborhood very clean and the urban rats very unwelcome (yes this does mean a
bit of work).  I realize that some will argue about rats’ rights to multiply,
but humans and wild rats are simply not compatible from a health standpoint.
This is an “us or them” level of hazard.  Please don’t wait until your friend
is at death’s door in Union Memorial to believe the seriousness of the rodent
matter.

Best Wishes to All (except the bad guys)

I read that natural 100% pure peppermint oil is a good natural deterent for

Today my mother called me because a Police officer  went to our house to
drop off an open package that was addressed to her.

He asked if she knew what the contents of the box was and what should be in
the box, and if she was expecting a delivery.

She only told him that hse was expecting a box from her cousin, with candy
and come caribbien spices. He went tot he trunk of his vehicle (According to
her the vehicle was a police car but does not remember if was a city police
car or county or state) She says he was wearing a uniform.

He asked her for her name and birth date. (I find that rather odd)

He gave her the package and then left telling her that he would return at
1pm to get a report.

I may be paraniod but this sets off my Spider senses on many levels. 1)
why would a cop just drop off the package? 2) why did he only ask for her
name and age?

I plan on staying home tomorrow to see if this cop returns.

Any ideas? Suggestions? Theories?

I would appreciate any and all input

Thank you Wendy Greg.

that was my Mom's package. I appreciate the neighborly diligence and
thoughfulness

I  called the police to see if they sent someone to the house and they
verified it to be true and mentioned that there is an investigation but could
not say more on the topic. They suggested I , or my spouse be here since my
mother has a language barrier regaridn English.

I wonder if this guy who Greg followed is the same person who took some other
packages.

Thank you again

I have informed my mother that from now on all packages should be sent to my

We have had several packages stolen off of our porch. So today, greg
sees a guy carrying a package, and he dropped it in our alley (we live
at 2711n calvert). the box was to 26?? Calvert St. (wanda). So greg
called the police and followed the guy to find him looking for packages
on the 2700 block of St Paul. He went house to house. The police came
and questioned him and let him go. Greg showed the officer the dumped
package and the officer took it.

The good news is that the officer is aware of who the person is, they
just need to catch him in the act.

Hope this is your package and relieves your worries.

Re: [Chat] stolen packages from porch

2008-12-11 Thread Daniel Grayskull

Last October I ordered some items for a Halloween costume. According to USPS
they claimed it was delivered and signed for on a particular date. When I
checked online, the date and time it stated when it was signed and delivered
was the same time I was on the front porch with my spouse putting up Halloween
decorations. When I contacted the Post Office, telling them where I was on that
day and time, they changed their story stating it might still be on the truck.

I filed a report since it was insured, but as of today, still no word what so
ever.  We always get mail meant for other address. Even address not even close
to our address. I personally think the mail carriers are not paying attention.

Luckily I can have all my packages sent to my office and I just take take them
home in my backpack. Which I have been doing so for things like large or
valuable items.

I am curious as to whether the stolen packages were actually delivered by
the US Postal Service, UPS or FedEx. Charles Village should not be a driver
release area for UPS meaning that a signature should be required for all
deliveries.

I personally choose to have internet purchases delivered to my office
because there will always be someone there during business hours
to accept them.

If the manpower were available a sting operation would probably help
the police apprehend those responsible for the thefts, which likely
are a federal offense.

 Hello, neighbors,

I had a package stolen off our porch last week.
It seems like this has been happening to others
as well. I've appended a note from Dana Moore.
When I reorder the item, I'll ask for signature
delivery, or for it to be held somewhere.

The last time we had a package stolen from our
porch was a year ago December. I guess it's
 the holidays!

I really ought to make a police report as well.

 Thanks,

 --Emil

 Good morning everyone.

I received the following note last night from one of our neighbors.
Seems as though the old trick of following the mailman (or woman, or
FedEx guy/gal, or UPS gal/guy) and then picking packages placed
on porches has returned. Please be aware of the potential for lost
packages delivered and left on your porch.

If you are expecting a package to be delivered to your home and know
that you will not be there to receive it, consider asking that it be
held at the post (UPS, FedEx) office for you to pick up. Another
option might be to ask a neighbor to be on the lookout for deliveries
and to pick up your packages for you. Though not convenient for most
of us who are working, it might make sense to arrange to be at home on
the day a delivery is expected.

As always, if you see suspicious persons on your porch or that of your
neighbor, especially somebody dressed as Santa Claus or Rudolph, do
not hesitate to call 911 to report a suspicious person.

If you have other ideas on how to reduce the risk of becoming a victim
to this type of crime please send it to me by email. I'll share it
with the Charles Village email group.

 Thanks.

 Dana Moore

MTA eliminates some bus and MARC train routes: Tell Us What You Think.eml (8KB)

I take the MARC train daily as part of my commute. (I work in Bethesda)
What I find interesting is that the trains that they are cutting back, are
trains they only have recently added due to constant requests from MARC
customers.
And in regards to Baltimore city Bus services... they need alot of serious
revamping to do on certain lines. Buses never showing up when they are suppose
to and when they do its several back to back or filled to like a sardine can,
or in my case this morning, a Number 3 Bus just drove passed the bus stop I was
at leaving 5 folks ith out away to get to their destination.(the Bus was empty)
Because of it I missed my Morning train and was late for work... I promptly
sent a complaint to the MTA

The American Planning Association (APA) has named Charles Village as
one of their ten Great Neighborhoods of 2008. The citation reads as follows:

Given the neighborhood's strong and dedicated activist community,
economic and social diversity, and memorable character enhanced
by designs from the renowned Olmsted Brothers firm, APA has named
Charles Village as one of 10 Great Neighborhoods in America for 2008.

What great news!

Re: [Chat] exterminator?

2008-10-06 Thread Daniel Grayskull
When my husband and I first moved into our house, we had some unwelcomed
guests of teh rodent kind.
Our cat dealt with them, now we have two cats and there has been no sign of
mice. Only during the fall when they (the mice) are looking for a place for
food and warmth.  Do we see one get killed by the cats.

We have discovered this product (all natural) that discourages rodents and
other animals from entering areas. SO far it seems to work. Here is a link to
the product.

it also keeps away unwanted strays and other animals as well.

Shame on u Albert. Prefer the company of mice to cats. 8-).
I had a problem with mice last year. My cat is an old lady. Wasn't
interested in chasing mice anymore. HOwever my trusty dog was
interested. He caught 2 mice.

Judy, I’ve thought of that, but Albert, my dog, would never tolerate a

I'm not trying to be a wise gal but what about a cat? So many need
 good homes.
