That's the amount you're actually paying taxes on. I'd be willing to

Property values went up by such a large degree during the credit
bubble that it's going to take a long time for taxes to catch up, even
with the recently lower assessments, since the tax can only rise by 4%
per year with the homestead tax credit.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the credit done away with in favor
of a much lower property tax rate for everyone.

i appreciate everyone's response. However I still don't get it. It
sounds as if I am still paying the tax for last years assessment and

it is back down to 116k. Yet I'm paying more than the previous yrs.

Joshua is right about how the taxes work. Under the homestead tax
law, if your home is owned by you and is your principal residence,
your effective assessment (what you actually pay taxes on) can go up
by no more than 10% per year compounded. The 10% figure is used for
state tax purposes (if you look at your bill, you will see that it
shows both a City tax and a State tax). And the counties and
Baltimore City are allowed to use the 10% figure or to adopt a lower
figure -- Baltimore City uses a 4% figure -- for local tax purposes.

If you look at your tax bill, it shows a State tax rate of 0.112%
and a City tax rate of 2.268% of the assessed value of your house, and
it gives the State and City taxes based on your assessment and based
on those rates, as well as a total tax. Those two numbers will be a
lot less than they were last year because of the lower assessments.
Those numbers reflect what you would pay if there were no homestead
tax credit.

The next two lines on the bill are a State assessment credit and a
City assessment credit. Those lines represent how much you are saving
because of the homestead tax credit. And the line after that is the
net tax amount, which is how much you have to pay if you pay in August
or September (you get your tax reduced by one half percent if you pay
in July).

Let me take my own house as an example. Six years ago, my house was
assessed a little bit more than $83K. Three years ago, it was
assessed for a little bit more than $255K, i.e. it a little bit more
than tripled. This year, it was assessed for a little bit more than
$178K.

So, six years ago, five years ago, and 4 years ago, I paid a tax on
$83K of assessment (actually, I paid less than that. because the $83K
was an increase over the previous assessment, and that increase was
phased in over 3 years). Then, three years ago, I paid an actual
State tax based on an assessment of $83K * 1.10 and a City tax based
on an assessment of $83K * 1.04. And I paid an actual tax that went
up similarly each of the following two years. So last year, my actual
State tax was based on an assessment of $83K * 1.10^3 =. $83K * 1.331,
and my actual City tax was based on an assessment of $83K * 1.04^3 =
$83K * 1.124864. These figures were way below the actual assessment
of $255K (actually, that $255K was phased in over 3 years, but the
phase-in did not affect the actual tax)

For this year, my assessment went down to $178K (and an assessment
decrease takes effect immediately rather than being phased in over 3
years as an increase would be). But my actual State tax is based on
an assessment of $83K * 1.10^4 = $83K * 1.4641 = $121,520, which is
much less than the actual assessment of $178K. And my actual City tax
is based on an assessment of $83K * 1.04^4 =. $83K * 1.17 = $97K,
which is also much lower lower than the actual assessment of $178K.
The difference between a tax based on the actual assessment and the
tax based on having the effective assessment go up each year by no
more than 10% for State tax purposes and by no more than 4% for City
tax purposes is the homestead tax credit shown on the bill as State
assessment credit and as City assessment credit respectively.

A useful figure is how long it will take your tax to double. Your

Without the homestead tax credit, my tax last year would have been
about $6000. Instead, it was about $2200. And this year, it would

The point is that your tax goes up by slightly more than 4% per year
(City tax goes up by 4%, and State tax, which is much smaller, goes up
by 10%) until it reaches the amount the tax would be without the
homestead tax credit.

In your case, it may be that your assessment was much lower than 116K
nine years ago, and in going up a little more than 4% each year, your
tax still has not caught up with your 116K assessment.

Your bill shows what you would pay without the homestead tax credit,
and it shows how much the homestead tax credit is saving you (shown on
the bill as City assessment credit and State assessment credit). Be
glad you are getting some sort of break on your taxes.

And feel sorry for those who have bought houses in the last several
years. If they bought their houses at the height of the real estate
bubble, they not only paid too much but they were assessed and taxed
based on on what they paid. This year, their taxes are down, but they
are still paying a lot more than we are.

If you're getting a homestead tax credit, your tax can only go up a little bit
every year (I think 3 percent) as long as you stay in your home. But it will
go up that amount until it hits the amount you'd pay without the credit. After
the housing bubble in the mid-'00s a lot of property's assessed values went up
so fast that people with the tax credit never caught up.

For instance:

Say in 2006 the assessment of your house doubled from 100K to 200K. Your
theoretical tax would go from $2,268 to $4,356. But because of the homestead
tax credit, your actual tax can't go up more than 3 percent a year. So in 2006
you'd owe $2,336, in '08 $2,406, and in '09 $2,478.
Then in 2009 they reassess your value down, from 200K to 150K. Now your
theoretical tax drops from $4,356 to $3,402. But because of the homestead tax,
you aren't paying anywhere near even that reduced amount. So the tax you
actually pay in practice in 2010 is still a three precent increase -- $2,552.
Your actual tax bill would only go down if your house lost a lot more value --
if it were assessed at less than $112,500 or so, with these numbers.

Re: [Chat] trash cans

2011-04-01 Thread jberlin

 Mr Hill,

I understand that no tax money is being used. The CVCBD is not a
municipality. Since many municipalities are incompetent,I hope the CVCBD
is not using them as an example of what to do.

This is extravagance out of control.
I am sure Witt Industries is reputable. They have been in business a
long time, probably due to frivolous purchases.

I cannot conceive of any rationale that would justify this waste of money.

Sincerely,
Judy Berlin

David Hill wrote:

Judy:

No tax money is being used to purchase the cans; it is all being raised from
foundations, businesses, and residents. To date, we have over $24,000. The
most recent donation is from PNC Bank.

The trash cans we are purchasing are made by Witt Industries a reputable
American company in Ohio that has been in business for over 100 years. The
particular cans we are purchasing are the Stadium Series described here:
http://www.witt.com/Stadium-Series/2009/03/message-center.php As quality
trash cans go, these are actually on the less expensive side at $600. Many
municipalities spend far more as you can see from browsing this website and
others. The trashcans you see in parks for example typically cost well over
a $1000 each.

I have attached the two page proposal I gave to the Board several months ago
when I first put forward this idea and also a picture that compares the old
and new cans; the new can was on loan from Stevenson University. I think my
proposal pretty much explains the rationale.

The first shipment of 15 cans will arrive in mid April hopefully just in
time for the Mayor's Spring Cleanup. I am meeting with the Mayor's staff
today to arrange for her to participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony at
about 9:30 Saturday April 16th in the park at Calvert Street and 24th. I
will keep everyone informed as to whether this event is ON or OFF. I
hope you will join us if it is.

Feel free to circulate.

- The Mayor's Spring Cleanup is scheduled for April 16th 2011 from 9am to
1pm. (The date was changed from the 23rd to the 16th)

- Do not leave valuables in view in your parked vehicle. Take them with you
or lock them in your trunk.

   Dear Mr Hill,

As a homeowner and taxpayer, I find it insulting to spend that kind of
money for trash cans. Rats were a problem before the mesh cans were put
out. Why were they used. How much money was wasted on that ? I have to
agree with Tweefie Millspaugh, sounds to much like a $700/toilet or the
$900/hammer.

Peel and slice them and freeze the pieces for use as a puree or in
smoothies, for example, where you'll still get the nice fresh taste
and nutrients, but the mushy texture won't matter.
Can them now in a simple syrup (sugar and water) with flavorings such
as vanilla, bourbon or brandy to use with ice cream as a great dessert
this winter.
Make peach butter (like apple butter, but with peaches)cook them,
spice them with cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. and can them for a spread all
year -round.
Make peach jam (similar to above, but without the spices and with the
possible addition of some pectin to make a more jelly-like consistency).

Dry them using a food dehydrator or your oven.
Make peach chutney and freeze or can it.
I've never been lucky enough to have a peach tree, but I used to do
all of the above with bushel baskets of peaches from the farmers'
market. It's really not hard and it's so nice to have come winter.

I know about giant. I shop there as little as possible. I find their

Last week Thomas's bagels were 1.99.

On 04/15/2010 02:28 PM, Stephen J Gewirtz wrote:

Judy,

If you believe that we should not shop at foreign owned supermarkets,
then you will not shop at Giant.

Giant was founded by a kosher butcher named Isidore Cohen who lived
somewhere in the DC/Baltimore area, but before he died, he sold Giant
to Royal Ahold which is a Dutch Company. After that, in my opinion,
Giant went downhill. I have been told that Stop Shop, a chain in
Massachusetts also acquired by Royal Ahold and now part of the same
division of Royal Ahold as Giant, has also gone downhill in quality of
service to customers.

A few years ago, Royal Ahold was caught cooking its books i.e.
pretending to be more profitable than it was. That involved stores in
South America, not in the U.S.

Personally, I will continue to shop at Giant for the things that I
cannot readily get at the farmers' market. But I tend to buy a lot at
Whole Foods (expensive often, I know, but worth it to me for the
quality and for products that cannot be found at Giant or Eddie's, and
Whole Foods is an American company), and I often go 3 blocks to
Eddie's rather than 6 blocks to Giant.

Safeway pulled completely out of Baltimore City some years ago, then
moved back into the City when it opened its store in Charles Village.
My impression is that its prices are higher than those at Giant. As
much as I hate Walmart, I expect it to have a good effect on prices at
Safeway. Giant reportedly lowered its prices because too many of its
customers were driving to a Walmart.

Being a chain of German supermarkets implies foreign ownership. No

Aldi is a chain of German supermarkets that several years
ago opened here. We'd never been in one until Kathleen
went to the Aldi in Highlandtown. I heard that they are owned
by the same family that owns Trader Joe's. Aldi has
an everyday low price scheme, without a lot of sales
and promotions. Some examples (not on sale):

2 lbs long grain brown rice $1.29
cone coffee filters #4 size $1.59
German pumpernickel bread $1.49
tub of butter substitute $0.99
bran flakes $1.49

I think it's worth going back if you're down that way.

This week I had the first case in history of raisin
toxicity ever seen at MedVet. My patient was
a 56-pound, 5 yr old male neutered lab mix
that ate half a canister of raisins sometime
between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM on Tuesday.  He
started with vomiting, diarrhea and shaking
about 1 AM on Wednesday but the owner didn't
call my emergency service until 7 AM.

I had heard somewhere about raisins AND
grapes causing acute Renal failure but hadn't
seen any formal paper on the subject. We
had her bring the dog in immediately. In the
meantime, I called the ER service at MedVet,
and the doctor there was like me - had heard
something about it, but... Anyway, we
contacted the ASPCA National Animal Poison
Control Center and they said  to give IV fluids
at 1  1/2 times maintenance and watch the
kidney values for the next 48-72 hours.

He started vomiting again overnight at MedVet
and his renal values continued to increase
daily. He produced urine when given lasix as a
diuretic. He was on 3 different anti-vomiting
medications and they still couldn't control his
vomiting. Today his urine output decreased
again, his BUN was over 120, his creatinine was
at 10, his phosphorus was very elevated and his
blood pressure, which had been staying around
150, skyrocketed to 220 ... He continued to vomit
and the owners elected to Euthanize.

This is a very sad case - great dog, great owners
who had no idea raisins could be a toxin. Please
alert everyone you know who has a dog of this
very serious risk.

Poison control said as few as 7 raisins or grapes could
be toxic. Many people I know give their dogs grapes
or raisins as treats including our ex-handler's. Any
exposure should give rise to immediate concern.
Onions, chocolate, cocoa, avocadoes and macadamia nuts can be fatal,
too.

Even if you don't have a dog, you might have friends
who do. This is worth passing on to them.

Is any one familiar with Borrowers Protection Plans? I had a line of

wanted same for the remainder of the loan. Boa told me it was only

At the same time, the urging that parents tell their kids to go

In any case, let us hope that the perp is caught soon before there are

Im not sure what difference it makes, but I bet the estimation is
probably pretty accurate.
I have seen pictures of the houses on my street from when Greenmount
Ave was a field.

So, I tend to think the 100 year old label is right.

I had noticed the dearth of wine and other liquors as well but
probably a year or so ago.  I think that they have just rolled back
stock to get what the students are getting.  As well when people are
shopping at 604 and the Wine Source for good wine and
microbrew/specialty beer Eddies can't really compete!

 Hi Paul,

I did ask them and the response was Hopkins students are wiping them
out. This was back in early September. I had the same going out of
business thought and I did ask them directly. But the employees said
no, not going out of business. Still, kinda strange.

 Andre

Not long ago, I went into Eddies Liquor, and I was struck that the
normally low stock of wine was almost depleted entirely. My partner
and I complain about their normal stock being rather pathetic...maybe
4-5 bottles of about 30 varieties, but this visit I was struck when I
saw a total of about 35 wine bottles in the entire place.

All the floor bins were empty, and the remaining bottles were
arranged along the shelves with one bottle about every twelve inches.
It seems they were not awaiting delivery of any wine soon, but
spreading out stock to make it look more full.

Anybody heard an explanation? If I didn't know better, I would say
the store is going out of business.

We have been in Charles Village for 9 years now and have enjoyed being
part of the community. Lately over the past 4 or so years our sales
at Rocky Run have slipped though and faced with continuous rising
operating costs on our end, it has been a difficult time for us.

After a lot of research, we have decided to try and do something with a
fresh, clean new look and that was perhaps a better fit in the
neighborhood in terms of a menu and price point. We are still a
family friendly restaurant and will continue to pride ourselves on
that. We have kept all of the foods on our menu that have done well
for us over the years in terms of sales and guest satisfaction (ie.
burgers, nachos, cheesesteaks, wings, salads, crab dip crab
pretzel, etc. etc.. Some of the other items that were dropped were
done so because either they had become cost prohibitive (ie. steak,
ribs) or they just did not sell enough (ie. pasta, seafood) to warrant
 being on the menu.

We have also dropped our prices on both food and beverages with the
hope of being more attractive from that point of view.

I hope that you will give the new concept a try and am confident that
 you will enjoy it.

 Thank you,

Just wanted you to pass the word on to everyone in the house.  A young
girl (early 20s) was riding her bike on the side walk across the
street

from the Schnapp Shop when a group of young boys (9-12 year olds)
punched her in the face. This was last Friday.

Then today we ran into Rory and JW (they live on the corner of 28th and
Calvert St) - they informed us yesterday at 10:50PM right next to Matt
and Jules (the house with the large elevated back deck right behind
you) house on St. Paul their neighbor was assaulted by a group of
young

men aged 16-18 no reason. He was working on his front yard when they
 approached him.

Please be careful - it appears that the gang initiation has started for
both the young and older groups of boys in the neighborhood.  Also
time of day does not appear to be only during the night or evening for
these assaults - several people have reported being harassed early in
the

morning on the way to their parked cars to go to work.

Also it is not only females with this most lastest attack on St. Paul.
The nice man at the Schnapp Shop that the police had informed him to
tell everyone to be aware of their surrounds and not to walk alone
(male or female) or with headphones on.

Oh, what a lovely hot summer - I can't wait for a good cold winter.

Sorry for the downer news but just want to keep you informed and aware
 - better to be safe than sorry. Especially after you have already had
a

 run in with future thugs.

CVCA Public Meeting on 28th Street Problems and Solutions

As you are no doubt aware, on June 5 an alleged road rage incident
occurred during which a cab driver, who was traveling east on 28th
Street with a passenger, was shot at the intersection of Maryland and
28th by a passing motorist. Because this was the last straw in a long
list of traffic accidents and dangerous conditions endured by
residents along 28th Street for many decades (and they are getting
worse every year), on behalf of Westside Neighbors I asked Dana Moore
to have the CVCA sponsor a special meeting with City Transportation
Department Officials, Northern District Police, Belinda Conaway and
Mary Pat Clarke to discuss possible solutions to this problem.
Surrounding neighborhood association presidents and their members will
also be invited to participate. I wanted to have the meeting quickly
so that the memory of what happened is fresh in everyone's memory
because I believe it is symptomatic of a larger problem with traffic
on 28th Street.

The meeting date has been set for Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at 7:30
p.m. at Sts Philip and James Catholic Church at 29th and Charles
Streets. Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend this
important meeting. The official notice of the meeting is below.
Please share the information with your neighbors and other email
groups that you participate in.

Notice of June 27, 2007 Public Meeting

Dear CVCA Members and Friends:

On Wednesday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m., the Charles Village Civic
Association will host a
discussion of possible solutions for problems caused residents by the
increased speed of cars
and aggressiveness of drivers traveling east on 28th Street from the
Jones Falls Expressway
and all points West. Special guests will be representatives of the
City's Department of
Transportation and Northern District Police Department, and City
Council Persons, Belinda
Conaway and Mary Pat Clarke.

The public is invited to attend.

Problems and possible solutions to be discussed:

1. Steps to be taken to reduce speed and aggressiveness of drivers;
2. Negative impact on quality of life of traffic light
synchronization, which promotes
speeding from the Jones Falls to Greenmount;
3. Absence of speed limit signs and the absence of traffic
enforcement;
4. Failure to enforce weight restrictions for truck traffic coming off
the Jones Falls east onto
28th to Charles Street and beyond;
5. Missing Walk/Don't Walk signs in some directions at
intersections,
6. Failure of drivers to give right of way to pedestrians at
intersections before making rights
on red, the need for longer delays between light changes, etc;
7. Viability of intersection cameras to catch aggressive drivers and
red light runners;
8. Use of alleys by non-resident drivers as thoroughfares;
9. Viability of speed bumps in alleys and elsewhere;
10. Post-Construction safety issues, e.g. missing streetlights not
replaced after calling 311;

I agree. A one day boycott is useless. I try to buy from Citgo, owned

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came
from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It ' s
 worth your consideration.

Join the resistance I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a
gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to
come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip
 Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the don't buy gas on a certain day
campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies
just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt
ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to
us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read on and join wi th us! By now you're probably
 thinking gasoline
priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79
for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the
OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of
gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to
teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace. not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more
each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going
to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the
pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT
hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just
stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act
together to force a price war.

 Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two
biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are
 not selling any
gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce
their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon
and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out
at this point keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to
 reach millions of people.

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at
 least ten more (30 x 10 =3D 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least
ten more (300 x 10 =3D 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message
reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE
MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on
to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!
If it goes one level further, you guessed it. THREE
 HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If
you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to
do is send this to 10 people Well, let's face it, you just aren't
a mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to
ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people
could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I
had that much potential, di d you?

Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you,
please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from
EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP
 THEM DOWN.

 THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

Greg, thank you for posting that reminder.

This is also the time of year when porch plants are
 stolen.

And, yes, they will steal flowers planted in the tree
wells and the front yard--I mean flowers that are planted
 in the ground!

One year many of us on the 2700 block of Calvert had
 plants dug up and taken.

And people have been known to go into yards to cut
 flowers.

Just a reminder to keep your eyes open, especially this
time of year. My neighbor across the
street (2600 block of Guilford) was broken into this
afternoon. Ironically, I noticed a guy
hanging out on their porch this morning and when I asked
him who he was looking for and what he
was up to, he left. I kept an eye on their house today,
but apparently, he returned a few hours
later and broke in their back door. He took some DVDs,
CDs, cell phones, and some other items. I
only wish I would have called the cops this morning but
when he left, I thought it was OK. My
neighbor did call the police who is there now taking
fingerprints and taking a report (I went over
to give the description I had). Hopefully, they'll catch
 him. Luckily, the convenience store
owner on 27th also saw him and thinks she knows him.

 The Annual Baltimore 'BLUE MASS'
A Community-wide Service of Prayer for the Police, Fire-fighters, and
 Paramedic Teams of Baltimore City

 Tuesday, 24 April, 6.30 PM

SAINT JOHN'S CHURCH 3009 GREENMOUNT AVENUE
 Greenmount Avenue at Thirtieth Street

A Reception follows the Service to thank our Fire-fighters, Police,
and

Paramedic Teams for all their good work on our behalf.

N.B. This is a sacred Service of Prayer to help meet the Pastoral
needs of the men and women of the Police and Fire Departments,
sponsored

by Saint John's Church as an act of gratitude for the many acts of
courage and sacrifice made on our behalf. This sacred time and place
of

reconciliation is NOT the forum for complaints or politics!
 Could you do it??

Could you do what they do? Could you rush into raging flames for a
stranger? Could you put yourself between a gun and someone you've
never met? Could you chase down and tackle someone twice you size?
Could you carry out a dead child to its parents? Could you put in the
IV drip? Could you close a gaping, bleeding wound? They can, and do-
your fire-fighters, police and paramedics. They do it on a weekly
 basis.

Why have a service of prayer for our Police, Fire-fighters, and
Paramedic Teams? Because these individuals do for our city and its
communities what we ourselves are not able to do, or choose not to do,
but know needs to be done; because they engage in work which is both
 physically and spiritually dangerous on our behalf and in our place;
because for us these individuals routinely expose themselves to an
underground society and the underside of ordinary life that most of us
can scarcely imagine. A public service of prayer is a gift to them
which makes us mindful of their particular need for spiritual support,
and of our responsibility to help them to bear what we ask of them.

There is a long tradition in Baltimore of a religious service for the
Legal Profession, commonly called the Red Mass because of the
colour of the vestments of the clergy for the patron saint of the
Profession. In this case, because Fire-fighters, Police, and
Paramedics
all have different patron saints, a common date was chosen: the feast
of

Saint George, a martyred Christian soldier (ca.304 AD) who was devoted
to the ideals of his faith, the duty of his office, and who gave his
life in the course of service. He is honoured for his courage and
devotion to his companions, for his fearless willingness to put
himself

in danger for others, and above all for the zeal of his faith. The
special colour of his day would customarily be the red of a martyr, or
white, which can always be used for any saint. It is a happy
coincidence that in the English customs followed at Saint John's
Church, blue is an equivalent substitute for white, and so our
offering

of a Blue Mass, is especially appropriate for our men and women
 in blue.

The Service takes the form of a Christian rite and uses Christian
language, but it is prayer to the God of us all, the God of every
language, people and nation. Everyone is invited to enter into the
prayer, the Spirit, and the meaning of this Service as deeply as
possible. If the forms seem somewhat traditional, it is because
Christian worship is very ancient, and because its language
deliberately

recalls the eternal presence of those who have gone before us in life,
faith, and hope. The forms are Christian, but the prayer is universal,
embracing the living with the dead and soaring through God's eternity
which we experience as our present.

The form of prayer for this Service is our most sacred ritual, in
which
Christians believe Holy Communion may be made with God himself, and
with

those who have loved Him. In this rite we offer to God our praise, our
prayers for ourselves and on behalf of others, our sorrow for
wrong-doing, our promise of renewal, and all our very being. We join
these to the supreme offering of the Son of God who gave his own life
as

a ransom for many. On this occasion, baptised Christians who are
communicant members in good standing in their own church are
encouraged

to receive the Holy Communion. Those whose faith does not permit the
reception of Holy Communion in other Churches, non-Christians, or
those

 who for any

One of our neighbors had their house broken into last night on the
East side of the 2700 block of
St. Paul. They asked me to email you all with the details as soon as
 possible so that you all
might be on the look out and keep your own houses protected. Luckily
 they were not home, because
the intruders stayed all night long.

They cut the phone lines (presumably before entering the house) then
forced the back door of the
house open. They stole mainly jewelry, power tools, personal
documents, alcohol, and some of the
 homeowners clothing.

They may have been watching this house because they did not seem to
 be
 bothered that the car was
parked in back of the house and that the lights were on up stairs.

It appears that the intruders were a man and a woman and that one or
 both of them smoked
cigarettes. They stayed in the house overnight eating the homeowners
 food, drinking their
alcohol, and sleeping in their rooms.

The home owners arrived early this morning around 7am to find the
 house ransacked.
