[CODE4LIB] iPads as Kiosks

2011-08-19 Thread Edward Iglesias
Apologies if this has been covered already but do any of you have experience
using iPads as kiosks? We would like to set up several as directional
beacons with a sot of you are here feature. I've found several apps to do
the kiosk feature but the home button seems to be an issue. Suggestions
include a case that locks out the home button such as this

Edward,

Have you looked into Sedna Presenter?

ActivateTheSpace (US distributor):
http://activatethespace.com/sednapresenter.html

Here's the link to the iPad Player:
http://www.sedna-presenter.com/component/content/article/6/40-player-for-ipad.html

I'm pretty sure I recall the capability to disable the home button via software

I've used Sedna Presenter in the past, it has a wide set of features that
allows you to do pretty much anything.

For example I've used it in tandem with an Emergency Alert System so that when
an SMS text message is sent it triggers special playlist/screen on Sedna and
displays alert messages and live video streams etc...

That’s just scratching the surface!

Here are some mounts:

http://www.mounts.com/product.php?product=IPM-700

SavantAV also has some mounts (as well as room control/smart classroom software)

Hope these links help!

[CODE4LIB] OAI = Flickr import tool

2011-08-19 Thread Erin R White/FS/VCU
** Apologies for cross-posting **

VCU Libraries has posted new sets of digital collections images on Flickr
with images + metadata pulled from ContentDM's OAI, using a tool developed
by the our web team.

PS Magazine, the Preventive Maintenance Monthly: http://go.vcu.edu/_Nxs
Medical Artifacts Collection: http://go.vcu.edu/_HZE
Jackson Ward Historic District: http://go.vcu.edu/_yMX

This Flickr uploader is a web-based PHP app that should work with any
OAI-enabled image repository (with some configuration - we have not tested
this).

The code is available at http://code.google.com/p/contentdm2flickr/ and is
very much in beta, but we hope this tool will be useful for others. We'd
be excited to hear from you if you have questions, end up using it, or
want to join the project to improve it.

Thanks!

[CODE4LIB] Avanti Nova version 0.1 released

2011-08-19 Thread Peter Schlumpf
Avanti Nova version 0.1, a generalised semantic mapping system, has been
released. It can be downloaded from the web site at:

http://www.avantilibrarysystems.com

It includes the source code as well as a couple of small demo programs written
in the Nova scripting language. It is very similar to the version that was
demonstrated at the Code4lib Midwest Meeting at UIC last month.

Development on Nova will (really!) continue and any feedback, positive or
negative, is welcome and appreciated.
