what should I do with it?

put it on the wiki, on the tangogps page?

package it up and put it on opkg.org?

you might want to check tangogps.org, i'm sure something similar
already exists. the writer might be interested in merging his script
and yours? or maybe hosting your script?

I'll really appreciate if you post here in ML a compressed file with
the script, or a link to download it. At now I have a _lot_ of pois
but I'm too busy to place it on the OSM map, it should be really quick
importing them directly in JOSM using a GPX.

While OSM2go isn't - today - working as expeted on FreeRunner, we have
Mumpot that, in the last version, is quite perfect. The only lack of
Mumpot, compared with OSM2go are presets (JOSM like tagging menus) and
the satellite overlay (wich, I think, for street-mapping, it isn't
useful). On the other hand, Mumpot is optimized for FreeRunner, and
the map is fullscreen.

However, I think it'll be great to have both ported perfectly on
FreeRunner, so... long life to OSM2go porters!

I hope you will enjoy it!

I'm going to improve this but maybe one of you is faster than me. (hope so
 ;-))

Hi Matthias,
first of all, thanks for bringing us such great and promising
application; it's pygtk structure makes it really expansible.

The first time I've seen the screenshot on opkg.org, I've thought that
it's big buttons are *perfect* for bike riding. So, the question is:
OpenStreetMap mappers (and other people, BTW) need an application
capable to take georeferred notes, which can easily can used to prospect
them on mapping Desktop applications (such like JOSM[1]).

Python makes very easy to take lat/longitude from GPS receiver on Neo.
We've a lot of applications doing this. Using a library to edit audio
file's metadata, we could insert in recorded audio track lat/lon
specification.

Just my 2 cents... my spare free time until July doesn't allow me to
implement this so, if someone would try... :D :D

Cheers

 This looks like this:

Great Onen! I think this should be the approach if we want to create a
georeferred voicenote application, starting from Dictator. To be picky (
:D ) it's really simple to write a python script to clean the extra data.

I think this is the *greatest* fault of OM/SHR since the introduction of

Please, community, try to solve this, to adapt the well known battery.py
to the current kernel. I think that after the release of OM 2009.1 and
the excellent work of Paroli team, the phone side is about to be completed.

But, we still have the problem of battery: I use FR as daily phone (or,
better girlfriend phone) since the first times. I don't worry much about
battery, I always have a Nokia BL-5C in my bag.

But, if we cannot have a quick solution for battery lasting, we should
try to make it chargeable all the times: how could we think to use
TangoGPS or Navit in the car for long trips with the current situation?

I'm not able to adapt battery.py myself, I've little experience with
python but don't know much how a kernel works.

This is a desperate appeal :D

I got Navit to work doing the following
 - Drop to a shell prompt on the FreeRunner (or use ssh to connect)

This makes Navit think that libgps.so.16 is installed.

a proper announcement is in place (actually rakshat thought I should...).
Enjoy recording your calls, and don't forget it's illegal to do so

[All] Boot with power button freezes the Neo

2009-03-26 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi list,
this is a problem I've had since November 2008, passing through
OM2008.08, OM2008.09 OM2008.12, Debian, SHR-unstable, SHR-testing, so I
could assume that it depends from uboot.

If I power up the neo pressing for (more or less) 8 seconds the power
button, the Openmoko orange black screen appears, and here it remains.

To start _any_ distribution I have to power it up in NAND and select
boot, and it makes difficult to power up the Neo in some situations
where I could use only one hand, for example while I'm driving car.

So, is there a way to configure Neo to start automatically SHR with
power button pression? SHR is flashed normally in the phone, and I use
uSD only for TangoGPS maps storage.

Thanks :)

[SHR-testing] Problems with battery

2009-03-25 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi list,
a small problem: I use my Nokia 6630 compatible battery (BL-5C) in the
Neo with SHR-testing, but Neo doesn't recognize the battery chip, so it
says that it is empty even it is full.

I've edited /etc/freesmartphone/opreferences/rules.yaml and commented
the section that powers off the phone with low battery level.

But, it still remains a problem: the battery doesn't charge, why? Here
is my rules.yaml[1]. This is making my phone unusable, and on 27 March
I'll travel far away: I need the battery for OpenStreetMap on the Neo!!! :|

Also: could someone explain me the differences in

lock, idle_prelock, idle and idle_dim

in Timeouts settings?

Thanks

[SHR-testing] GSM restart, how?

2009-03-21 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi list,
I'm a *very* happy user of SHR-testing. But, in my home's area, GSM
covering for my operator (Wind, Italy) is low, and sometimes during call
i lost my girlfriend. And, here, all OK.

The bad with SHR-testing is that after the line went dead, the Call
application sometimes remains open and if I close it manually with the
X Illume button, I notice that GSM is lost definitively. If I go to
Settings - Phone, it doesn't load the modules or simply says: Could
not connect to dbus, but no button is shown to restart dbus.

I don't know if this is a dbus problem, but with OM 2008.12 all worked
fine also in my home. I need now to restart the Neo to get it work
again. It happens quite often when I'm at home, and it's the _only_
thing that makes Neo unstable for me.

Is there a way to get GSM/dbus work again without reboot?

Thanks :)

Depending on what went wrong, releasing and re-requesting the GSM
 resource might be a workaround.

Could you try to reproduce this with debug logging for ogsmd? When you
have a log, please create a ticket at http://trac.freesmartphone.org .

Yeah but, how could I do it? Something like what is explained in point 6

I don't know why it's not found if the file gvsig exists in /usr/bin -

No, battery.py is completely useless on SHR with 2.6.28 kernel. Joel

have so much time to try these days.

So, also I _need_ to force the fast charging mode on SHR, because the

[SHR-testint] On Yaouh! 0.5 and 0.4

2009-03-04 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hi list,
does anyone know where can I find the opk/ipk for Yaouh! 0.3? I've tried
0.4 on my fresh SHR-testing but, when downloading during the night, it
crashed (I don't know why, I'm trying again now to report the error from
shell).
Yaouh 0.5 simply doesn't work showing an error related to filesystem
(but this has been discussed in another topic).
So, for my SHR-testing the latest version avaiable for use has been 0.3.
Does anyone know where can I get it?

Thanks

Your is a really great work, Carlo :) But, why remove the progress bar?
Could not make it optional, configurable from a simple sub-menu (Show

I think that space indicator is a great feature, I would see it avaiable
at least in OM 2008/2009 ;)

Thanks again :)

The bar that needs df / to work? No need to get rid of it
unconditionally. Test the output of that df command, and make the bar
only if df gave a useable response. Those with a working df then
gets the bar, and those without still get their tiles updated. (And if

[SHR-unstable] Restart GSM daemon

Hi list,
If I answer to a call which resumed my Neo from suspend state, after

Is there a way to restart GSM without reboot the phone? I'll insert the
command into ShortOM, and in this way will be simple to use again GSM.

Now, I've tried /etc/init.d/frameworkd restart, but it not solves my
problem.

Hi Timo,
first of all, thanks for your software.

I've an observation: I'm also very interested in OpenMoko software for
mapping on OpenStreetMap: your idea is really great.
Voicenote developer is working (I suppose) on a GPS-correlation support
for his software, to use georeferred notes on OSM mapping sessions.
Mattias Felsche is working to turn the Neo into a dictaphone, with a
python script.

In future, we'll probably have
- - a software which records audio only on speaking
- - a software which records geo-referred audio files
- - a software which act as a dictaphone

Now, I respect everyone's work, I respect the *great* idea of Free
Software as freedom to develop, but could all these ideas be merged into
one? It'll be great to have a single application for OpenStreetMap
mappers which does *all* this things, possibly configurable.

My 2 cents :)

 I understand your thoughts.

Thanks :)

I understood voicenote was a shell
script. I could not extend it since I needed to use C for doing the
 voice detection.

I did search freshmeat, google, apt-cache search for a dictaphone but
could not find anything that'd simply record when I speak.

This could be avoided. Today, voicenote needs a good GUI. If we want to
integrate voicenote ad monologue without rewriting anything, we have
just one possibility: to use a GUI.
I was thinking to an interface written simply in PyGtk which handles
both the softwares, showing to user 2 options:

1) normal georeferred recording: possible with voicenote; GPS chip is ON
2) recording only on speak: we could start monologue through GUI; GPS
chip is OFF
3) georeferred recording on speak: we start monologue; python talks with
GPSD, catch coordinates, and insert them in recorded file's metadata.
GPS chip is ON

So, if we can't merge the code, we could create one GUI to use
all the recording software, givin to user the possibility to choose the
option according to battery state (if the battery is low, user could
turn off GPS and use option 2).

I think to have such PyGtk skills, but I'm busy for university until
April :(

[SHR] Vibration freezes on wake up on call

2009-02-24 Thread Francesco de Virgilio

Hash: SHA1

Hi all,

here's my 3 days experience with SHR unstable: to reproduce what appears
as a bug, do the follow:
- - power on SHR ad wait for loggin on GSM network
- - press the Power button to suspend
- - take another phone and call the neo
- - after waking up, if you close the call without opening it from the
Neo, the call GUI closes but the vibration will continue until remove
battery.

Sometimes vibration continues also after opening the call on the neo
after resume, making hard to talk.
I've tested this both with uImage-om-gta02-latest.bin and
uImage-2.6.28-oe1+gitr34240a1c06ae36180dee695aa25bbae869b2aa26-r3-om-gta02.bin
kernels, with the same rootfs image (shr-lite-image-om-gta02.jffs2).

Is it a known issue, a registered bug, or is there a solution?

Thanks

the values in Settings - Power Management to -1, but nothing.

Any hint?

Same here! SHR unstable it's fantastic, stable and really usable as a

Just one problem: I've a cheap BL-5C battery which works like a charm

Try to disable it in /etc/freesmartphone/oevents/rules.yaml... it is:

just comment those four lines out and reboot. Thats just my guess

Thanks, I'll try :) Another question: it seems that fso-gpsd is on when
the system is powered on, because if I try /etc/init.d/fso-gpsd
terminal answers me that it's already running.
I use GPS only sometimes, so GPS should be powered off at startup, also
to avoid the battery draining.
In the same time, which is the role of SHR Settings Manager - Others,
when it default says: GPS radio policy = Auto? The GPS chip is on or
off? And if I act from Settings Manager, my settings will be lost on
reboot? If I set them to Manual and then I select Off, it seems that
on reboot it switches again on Auto... frustrating :(

How could I proceed to power off GPS on startup?

Thanks

GUI for SHR fast charge mode: possible?

Hi guys,

as in the topic name, I've flashed SHR unstable and noticed that the

anymore, showing the following error:

For me the fast-charging mode is really important to use the Neo in my
car, which adaptor for default provides only 100 mhA. Is there a way to
set quickly fast-charge mode on SHR unstable?

Thanks,

Hi,
I've decided to try the unstable SHR to see if the power consumption is
less than OM 2008.12.
Could you link me the best rootfs and kernel?

I'm searching for something stable and suitable for a daily phone (my
needs are some calls and some trackings every day). Actually, my 2008.12
sometimes freezes so it is not so usable... Yes, I know that SHR
unstable pushes away the concepts of stable, usable and daily phone
but... I'll give it a try :D

Thanks,

[OM] Less power consumption

2009-02-20 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi all,
I've searched around to get an answer, but nothing...

this is just a little question flogging in my mind since 2008.12 was
released: when will we have a lower power-consumption kernel, getting
the Neo FreeRunner usable for 3 or 4 days (suspending it frequently)?

Actually I use my Neo to call my girlfriend and to track with GPS for
OpenStreetMap, but I move around with my Neo with the terror of an empty
battery after a long call or a tracking session.

The development is getting big steps quickly, I've read Paroli is now
working, the first killer apps are on the road, but I think we need a
decent WiFi support and a less hungry kernel... how near are we?

Are there stable and not draining-down kernels avaiable today?

In all the cases, thanks for the Great work the Community is making, I
feel that 2009 will be the year of the Free ('As in Freedom') Phone!

The GPS tracking is not a problem, since I'm going to buy a Garmin
GPSMap 60Csx (battery life around 20h of tracking with 2 AA batteries)
because I need also a good routing device. The real problem is that
for my complicated day 15h life with a normal use of the phone is too few.

My last mail was finalized to find a pretty way to improve the life of
my FR. This is the way. I think that SHR unstable + the Rechargeable USB
Emergency Power Backup Pack suggested by Timo Juhani Lindfors

You can buy extra batteries. The USB battery

 http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3060

is only $14.43. I don't think this lets you use it for 3 days but it
will at least make it 12 instead of 6 hours.

should work for me.

However, also a good wifi roaming device could be interesting... is
there a way to get the SHR unstable connect to open wifi networks around
the streets?

Thanks to all for the hints :)

Btw, it's useful to add GSM cell information and GPS location
information to the filename when it is available.

I think that implementing this the Neo FreeRunner will be the first
phone for mappers (I'm referring to OpenStreetMap). Georeferred voice
notes could be a coolest feature in a completely open phone to produce
completely open maps.

Actually, the audio mapping[1] is supported by the main OSM editor,
JOSM[2], and is the smartest way to collect streets names for bikers.

An important note: it is not necessary for a mapper to have the
recordings georeferred with latitude and longitude, the audio metadata
could contain simply the time catched by GPS, and in this way the file
will be georeferred on a GPX.

In both the cases, again, after TangoGPS (with OSM support) this could
be the big step to create a phone for mappers.

Good work :)

should be added that alsa-utils-aplay package is needed to get the

Please provide more details please :S

Has anyone else got the same problem ?
On OM 2008.12, after installing aplay package, it works like a charm ;)

One suggestion: why do not try to make a more user-friendly interface
which is big as the whole screen space, with big buttons (useful for
bikers) and a traffic light[1] showing:
- - red -- message of the 1st window
- - orange -- message of the 2nd window
- - green -- recorded and saved

... or something like that ;) In PyGtk it's very simple and immediate to
realize that, but before summer I've no time :(

[2008.12] What freezes my OM?

2009-02-18 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi list,
I'm going to ask hints for a problem I've on my FreeRunner since I
installed 2008.12 (December 2008). Apparently randomly, sometimes it
freezes and a reboot is required to get it work properly again.

It appens most of the time when I open/close a phone call (or usually
when I'm managing with the qtopia phone application) or when I'm using
TangoGPS, both latest (0.9.5) and previous version. Sometimes it freezes
while I'm in my car, crunching km and tracking for OpenStreetMap[1].

Is it related with CPU overload or something similar? Is it related with
kernel version (a suggested super-stable kernel?)? Is there a way to
read in the logs which is the cause of this problem?

Thanks,

[1] You could imagine how frustrating could be run in the car for
kilometers and discover that the phone has freezed after few km...

Add panic=15 to kernel command line to have it automatically reboot on

modprobe s3c2410_wdt and configure watchdogd to reboot the system if it is

 Hi!

 Thanks for the update!

Since tangogps decided to hard-code the default repositories as well
map file locations, I'd like to see
 a) tangogps go back to the text config file or
 b) yaouh hard code the same data or
 c) yaouh add the default repositories in tangogps config file thus
 overriding tangogps hard-coding

It's pity that tango decided to go for hard coded, it makes the life
more difficult for other apps to work with tangogps.

At the moment installing tangogps and yaouh leaves yaouh non-functional.

Re: yaouh! 0.3 is out

2009-02-05 Thread Francesco de Virgilio

Be patient with my poor English but... I don't understand all your
explanation :(
Is there a way to solve this issue? I don't know much about that file
(%gconf.xml)... But the cl features of yaouh! 0.3 are calling me :D

I've opened the config tab on TangoGPS, pressed Edit after selecting
the standard OSM repo, and I've pressed OK to confirm current
settings. Incredible, I get a segfault:

on_combobox1_changed():
*** on_combobox1_changed(): reponame: OSM
http://tile.openstreetmap.org/%d/%d/%d.png
Segmentation fault

and TangoGPS exits immediately. Now, I don't know if there are problems
in the config file, if this is a known bug, or if it is shares his
causes with Yaouh 0.3, but... something is not working in the right way.

Do you think that the segfault of TangoGPS 0.9.5 during the edit of
repos settings is related with the impossibility of Yaouh 0.3 to catch
the current maps from TangoGPS?

You're suffering the same problem as I last night :-)
the only usefull value in your %gconf.xml for this is:

 stringvalueOpencyclemap/stringvalue

there is no value at all for OSM and the value for Opencyclemap does not
 contain the other values, like base URL and invert;

all this is as well in tangoGPS but also in yaouh a bit crude and not
very robust; tangoGPS works because it has its hardwired values if it
can't find the values in %gconf.xml, have a look into tangoGPS's config
page, you will see the URL and if you save the config it will be even
written to the file %gconf.xml :-)

 all not very robust :-(

 data).
In other words, image is rotated if image's orientation is landscape.
A new command line option (-r, --auto-rotate) has been added to
 enable/disable this new feature.

 * Added timers to auto-hide image viewer navbar and toolbar.
A new command line option -d (--bars-disappear-delay) has been added to
adjust auto-hide delay of this new feature (disabled by default).
This feature is disabled if delay is 0.

 * Added the index of the image, the total number of images and the

 * Added a slideshow functionnality.
A new command line option -s (--slideshow-delay) has been added to
adjust the interval (default 4 sec.).

Re: Workaround for using speech-dispatcher without blocking /dev/dsp for other apps

2009-01-18 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
Interesting workaround ;)
Pratically, the only modules to cheange from alsa to oss (for me) are:
- espeak.conf
- festival.conf
- flite.conf
- ibmtts.conf

But, for a n00b like me, it is not clear how the
/etc/init.d/speech-dispatcher file should be adapted. Could you provide
directly the adapted file?

Regards,

Korbinian Rosenegger wrote:
 Hi

Many of you had problems with openmoocow not mooing or lightsaber not
starting and complaining about No available audio device. This is
often (always?) caused by speech-dispatcher blocking /dev/dsp.

So here's a workaround for using speech-dispatcher without blocking the
sound device for applications that use OSS. It's using the OSS output of
speech-dispatcher and starting it with the alsa-oss wrapper for using
ALSA. The reason for this is because the OSS output opens the sound
device only when needed for speech output while the ALSA output keeps it
open all the time (which wouldn't be a problem when using ALSA only
since then the drivers can do mixing, but the OSS compability layer in
the kernel does not support mixing (as fas as i understood it, has to be
done in userspace with dmix)). I tried it with dmix on my freerunner,
but it sounds rather bad, so I found this workaround.

 Steps to do:

 - Install alsa-oss and add a missing link:
  opkg install alsa-oss
  ln -s /usr/lib/libaoss.so.0 /usr/lib/libaoss.so
 - Change the output method of all used modules
in /etc/speech-dispatcher/modules/*.conf from alsa to oss
 - Use the aoss wrapper in /etc/init.d/speech-dispatcher. Do this twice
there (once for start in line 18, once for restart in line 31). Change
the second line from --exec $DAEMON to --exec aoss -- $DAEMON:
 start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --pidfile $PIDFILE \
   --exec aoss -- $DAEMON
 - Restart speech-dispatcher
 - Enjoy openmoocow or ko-lightsaber while speech-dispatcher is running

 I hope I haven't forgot a step here.
If any of you has a better solution please let us know.
(Of course you also can run lightsaber or openmoocow with the aoss
wrapper without touching speech-dispatcher. Maybe this is the better
solution, but then you have to touch every app that uses OSS, and maybe
you'll get similar bad quality as with dmix like I did.)

Maybe someone knows if it is possible to let speech-dispatcher behave
the same with the alsa output method to open the sound device only when
 it's needed?

 Have fun :)

So, I made My own for the FreeRunner Yesterday.

 Here is the link
 http://filmsbykris.com/freerunner-debian/ko-user/ko-lightsaber.tar.gz

 How to install:
Just un-tar it to your root directory and it should place everything
 where it needs to be
and give you an icon on your desktop.

 What it does:
Start the App and the phone sounds like a LightSaber Extending and then
 Humming (You know, Like StarWars)
Swing the Phone Around and it sounds like you're having a LightSaber Fight.

 Features so Far:
Sound, Vibration, and The Power Button LED flashes Blue on Swings.

 Todo list:
Work on the GUI (Currently just a big exit button)
add buttons to extend and retract Saber ( so you don't have to exit the
program to stop the sounds )
And some sort of graphic or image of a Light Saber.
 Add More sounds
Have buttons so you can choose the color of you lightsaber.

 Bugs:
Sometimes while exiting, if you are still swinging the phone around, the
LED and/or the vibrator will stay on.
If this occurs, start the app up again and then close it with out
 swinging the phone around.
I believe I can fix this with ease. I just wanted to get what I have
done out before I continued working on new things.

I got the sound fx off a free sound fx website. Don't know who made
them. I hope it is ok that I used them.

[2008.12] GPS from python

2009-01-12 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
Hi all :)
Could someone explain me which is the most easy way to catch lat, lon
and time from GPS after the fix, using Python?
I use gpsd, TangoGPS etc, and I'm working on a Python app for
OpenStreetMap smart tagging in real time ;)

I installed python-pygps but it appears that no infos are available
after the fix, so it appears to me pretty useless.

Any tip / faq / man?

Yeah, today installing python-something_near_xml it's what i thought, so
at now in my moko-box python-xml and python-xmlrpc, but you know
the result. Is there any way to see if any of the official 2008.12

In Python docs it's listed, as you reported, as a component of the

markupbase.py
sgmllib.py

[2008.12] BeautifulSoup and Python... how?

2009-01-01 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
Hi all,
I'm writing a little python script and I need to use BeautifulSoup[1].
So, I've copied the BeautifulSoup.py file on my OM 2008.12 and, after
opening a Python console, that's what the terminal prints to me:

 from BeautifulSoup import BeautifulStoneSoup
Traceback (most recent call last):
File stdin, line 1, in module
File BeautifulSoup.py, line 51, in module
from sgmllib import SGMLParser, SGMLParseError
ImportError: No module named sgmllib

I remember that in my 2008.09 it worked... why? Is there any way to
satisfy dependencies or - extreme solution - a workaround to have
BeautifulSoup functionalities in Python without importing it?

Regards

[2008.12] python-pygps unusable

2008-12-30 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
Hi all,
first of all, thanks again for bring us 2008.12, I think it's the best
image of all times for my FR.

Today I've tried to set up a little script in python using the GPS and
installed from opkg the package python-pygps. After that, opening a
python console, tried to import the gps module, and received an error
message (something about a calendar module not present or similar).

Now, I spet a _lot_ of time searching for solution, and googling I got
my answer: bug #2083[1].

This makes the gps bindings for python complete unusable on OM 2008.12,
until you install from opkg the package python-datetime. I don't want
to spam, but I think that posting this on ML will prevent other people
from spending off time searching for a solution... :)

Greetings

PyFeedReader is nice (regards to its creator) but the rendering of feeds

Re: www.opkg.org - Relaunch!

2008-12-25 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
Woow!
Probably the greatest Christmas gift for this year!

Tobias Kündig ha scritto:
 Dear Community,

After hours of coding I can present you my little christmas gift for
Openmoko and the whole community: The relaunch of www.opkg.org.
The whole site was recoded. There is a new system and a shiny new design.

These are the changes I made:

 New Design
 ---

The old design wasn't very pretty. The new one is more professional and
hopefully user friendlier than the old one.

The best results you'll get on a resolution of 1280x1024 pixels. I'm
sure there are some displaying bugs in other browsers than firefox or in
other resolutions. If you find one, please drop me a line and I'll fix
 it ASAP.

There are also some small goodies. For example all new packages since
your last visit are highlighted in the overview.

One note: Please remember that I don't speak English as first language.
So I'm sure there are a lot of grammatically mistakes in the text.
Please let me know that, so I can correct them.

 Improved member area
 ---

If you are logged in, the member area are now appears on the homepage.
You'll find a list of all your packages with useful links like «Edit» or
«Restore older version». By the way, you now can delete your packages
 yourself.

 The API remains the same
 ---

The API wasn't changed at all. So if you began to write an application
using it, you don't have to change anything. It simply was ported to the
new system - but the results it gives you, are the same than the old one.

 What you should change
 ---

The URLs for the RSS-Feeds have changed. So please update the URL in
your RSS-Reader. Furthermore I'm sure that not all updates since last
Friday are correctly imported into the database. So please check the
packages you updated since last Friday.

 What's next?
 ---

There are some features I'd like to include in the future. First of all
 there's a repository I'd like to create. And maybe I'll include a
feature where you can give the visitor information about the
compatibility of your package. So you can say, yes, it works on
OM2008.12 but not on FSO, for example.
Maybe I'll have to change the category names too because there is some
conversation on the mailing list about it. We'll see...
Of course I'd like to implement your ideas as well. So please write me
if you have a revolutionary idea.

Please let me know http://www.opkg.org/contact.html what you think of
 the new site.

I wish you all a merry Christmas,
 Tobias

 Hi all!
First of all, greetings for bring us OM 2008.12, it's probably one of
the most great releases of OM
(the boot in particular is rally cool!).

Now, I flashed it yesterday, as follows:

  dfu-util -a kernel -R -D Om2008.12-om-gta02.uImage.bin
  dfu-util -a rootfs -R -D Om2008.12-om-gta02.rootfs.jffs2
  dfu-util -a u-boot -R -D gta02v5_and_up-u-boot.bin

And all it's ok. GSM works, SMS also, GPS, ssh and internet (through
USB) out of the box, etc etc.
I installed illume theme as follows:

  /etc/init.d/xserver-nodm stop
  vi /etc/enlightment/default-profile
  Change it in -profile illume
  shutdown now

And after changing Illume configs for Engine from SOFTWARE_16 to
 SOFTWARE it works very fine.

 BUT

Sometimes, it appears almost randomly, OM 2008.12 freezes.
It's a total blocking of the system, nothing works through touchscreen
or ssh, and I'm forced to reboot.
It could be while I'm using TangoGPS or while I'm pressing the answering
button, when I talk or when I close a call.

What do you think about this?

I'll test OM 2008.12 for one or two days but, if this will continue, I
will flash in SHR, in the hope
it will increase the usability of the phone... but, it is a pity, OM
2008.12 with illume is really cool ;)

I propose to create a new mailing list on lists.openmoko.org
That is related Debian on FreeRunner.
 What do you think?

Great idea!
There's a diffused need of a place in which talk about Debian on FR, IRC
chan #openmoko-debian is poor, today.

what about copying and posting those messages here?

Nothing special, at the end. When I press the icon to add new feeds it
doesn't show any particular message.

But there are errors related to icons. You think I have to solve them to
start the function associated with the button? However icons are visible
in the application, so I think we have to search the problem on other
ways.

No new feeds in openmoko-feedreader2?

2008-08-31 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
I've opened openmoko-feedreader2 and I've noticed that there isn't any
way to insert a new feed among the default feeds.
When clicking on the new feed icon in the 3th tab, nothing happens,
and the command line messages do not help to understand where's the
problem.
Has anyone noticed this?

WxPython and OpenMoko

2008-08-18 Thread Francesco de Virgilio
Hi all,
simple dirty question:
does OpenMoko support WxPython? Or developers *must* use only PyGtk? If
don't, will be any possibility to have WxPython supported in future on
OM?
