It still needs some more work, but it's currently very usable and i am
 really
happy how it works. E.g. the video was taken with N900 in my left hand and
still with the SMS layout i made no mistake.

My plan for now is to finish it up and remove all those 5!! QtMoko input
methods in favour of this one. I can make installable packages of the old
methods if anyone is interested. This should be part of v45. For v46 i can
 try
to implement customizable layouts and unicode characters.

Which Bootloader are you using? With the Qi Bootloader that I use, there

 Hi,
i have uploaded new qtmoko v33 images to sourceforge now [1]. They are
 still
called experimental, because a few things are still not perfect.

For more information about qtmoko please see [2][3].

Here is list of changes since v32:

 * new theme faenqo (cyberspirit)
 * qtmoko and it's applications are packaged as debian packages
 * compiled natively on ARM with debian toolchain
 * new web with applications and themes [4]
 * applications are now installed from web browser
 * new icon for installing qtmoko apps in Applications
 * you can easily install new themes in appearence settings
 * fixed usb mass storage script (thanks to Alfa21)
 * omhacks are installed as debian package from sid
 * qmplayer installs mencoder in debian
 * mencoder uses ac3 codec for audio
 * orange led brightness should be fixed (only in sources)
 * moved all apps from qtmoko-apps git to qtmoko git
 * updated docs for building and compiling

The list is quite short on how much of work it was.

Most of the effort was to package everything with debian package system.
 This
should be done now except for kernel which is on the list for next release.

For installing qtmoko with apt there is new line now in
 /etc/apt/sources.list:

 deb http://qtmoko.sourceforge.net/debian/ /

Applications and themes are right now not in that repo. They can be
 installed
from web browser from url below [4]. Applications are put in categories,
 they
have tags and screenshots for easy searching and navigation. Please let me
know if you have ideas or patches for improving this. The application web
 is
generated from .xml files with xsltproc and bash scripts so it should be
 quite
easy to change look or improve it.

Btw .deb packages for most of the apps are still building right now so
 please
be patient - i will upload them as soon as the build is finished.

Applications in this version can be still installed with old qtopia package
system, but i am going to disable this for next release if new packaging
 will
 be ok for you.

My plan for next version is to fix regression if you find any, package
 properly
also kernel and release it as stable.

Plans for future is FSO framework in qtmoko.

Don't forget to try new faenqo theme or use older themes (asthromod) which
were only in git until now. They are really nice.

 Thanks for supporting qtmoko

Qi Bootloader compatible SD Card Partition Sizes

Distributions that Qi boots.

According to:

SD and SDHC cards supported properly with partitions of any size as in
u-boot

However, I have noticed that when I increased the sizes of my 3 Bootable

boot from the first 2 partitions (not the third one).

QtMoko Virtual Memory

2010-09-01 Thread Nashvin Gangaram

partition on my MicroSDHC Card, using GParted on PC. I notice than on
startup, there is something like a Activating Swap Configuration... failed
message. So, I just had a couple of questions:

   - Is it possible for QtMoko to use a swap partition on the SD Card?
   - How can this be done?
   - Does swap cause a significant performance increase with QtMoko?

Re: community Digest, Vol 194, Issue 6

2010-07-30 Thread Nashvin Gangaram
Hi Jason

There is a list of Distributors here:
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Distributors

There only seem to be 2 in North America (1 out of stock), but perhaps one
of the other distributors sells GSM 850 handsets as well...

 Hi,

I live in New York City and have been aware of Open Moko for a couple
years. I had seen the possibility of purchasing a handset in the
United States about a year ago but now that is not an option. Can
anyone tell me information about the future of this situation...will
there be handsets available in the U.S. any time soon?

 Thank you for your time.

Re: qtmoko - Please Wait...

2010-07-12 Thread Nashvin Gangaram
Hi Fernando

I've noticed the same issue as well, once when my battery was very low, and
once when it was fine.

A few device restarts by holding the Power button, and selecting Restart
Device eventually worked for me...

 Hi,
I just upgraded to v24 and I keep having the same problem as before.

After boot, I don't get the request for the pin code. The screen
displays a No network message and no response to screen touches. I
press the power button to get the shutdown menu. I cancel it and then
the pin code request screen appears. However, I am not able to type
anything and all I see is a Please Wait... message.

If I boot the FR with usb cable connected, I get the chance to enter the
 pin code.

Can I do something to fix this issue?

 Hi there!

Installed qtmoko v24. FAST SMOOTH, awesome!!!

 But no contacts.

How do I import contacts from SIM? Maybe this could be suggested in
the first-run-wizard? Maybe document it in the wiki?

 Thanks!

Re: [qtmoko] v24 importing contacts

Hi Rafa

I believe that it is intentional for contacts not to be shown in SHR,
because of an internal design change...

Fun. I tested qtmokov24 and it also, like Nashvin, shows all the SIM
contacts. But it also always shows battery status like if it is charging,
 when no.

And more, I installed latest SHR unstable and it does not show the
contacts. I like both anyway ;-)

Freerunner Remote Desktop?

2010-05-25 Thread Nashvin Gangaram
Hi everyone

Does anyone know of any way to Remote Desktop to the Freerunner (to see
the Freerunner display on PC, via USB). Preferably for SHR on Freerunner
and Linux Mint or Ubuntu on PC...

I've looked at:
http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/USB_Networking#GUI_on_desktop_through_SSH
, but this seems to only allow specific applications to be displayed on PC.

Thanks :-)

Neo Freerunner Display Broken (Updated)

2010-05-09 Thread Nashvin Gangaram
Hi everyone

My Neo Freerunner display seems to be broken. There are just bright lines
flashing on the screen (Some days some lines changes colour). This issue is
always present. However, the touchscreen seems to be working (The phone
responds to touches). I can still ssh to the phone from my PC. The
filesystem is okay (all my files are still there), and the phone is working
otherwise. I just can't see anything on the screen, except for some bright
flashing lines...

I don't think it is a software problem, because the issue is present even
when booting from NOR flash (holding AUX button + POWER)

I don't think it is a power-related problem, because I have tried using the
battery, as well as a PC USB port.

I have opened the phone, and the cable between display and board seems fine,
and all the connectors are sitting firmly.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Any advice on what to do?

Thank You
