Re: [Community_garden] community garden development

2011-01-06 Thread Carol Popovic
We have both styles of gardens. The communal garden works best in our area
when they choose a common work time e.g., Wednesday evening and hold a potluck.
They do tend to build a greater sense of camaraderie.

The plot gardens tend to be more popular in our individualistic society, however

There are benefits and drawbacks for both styles but there will always be some
people who put more work into the garden than others.

Subject: [Community_garden] community garden development

Hello - a group is considering developiing a community garden in an area that
is isolated from the nearby small town, with a history of drug abuse and low
income. There is a good community building which is home to children's
activities. Some of the community is interested in having a community garden
as part of a landscaping/beautification project. The interest is having one
community garden, not individual plots. What is the success rate for this idea
of one garden for the community? what suggestions do you have to make this
work or to have individual plots?
