never will, that is e.g. the possibility to simply overwrite functions
etc and as far as I have seen this was one of the benefits of
customizing CE, that you just can overwrite code in your own models/
controllers etc what would not be possible with Rails 2.3

Now, if the enginesplugin would still work, that might be stil
possible, even if I have a strange feeling about using still the
engines plugin if the main part is in the core

maybe I am also totaly wrong, who knows, I have just spent a couple of
hours for my resaerch and meanwhile tested them all out, in a fast
way, that is CE, Tog, Inioshi and luvdbyless...guess I am not missing
 any here ? :)

So for now I go with Tog I think also for the simple fact I have no
clue about HAML and no time nor fun to get into this right now

Anyway, looks like a promising project and who knowsi´ll give it a
retry as soon as I have some time to play

[CommunityEngine] Re: Why should I still start today with CommunityEngine ?

2009-04-15 Thread Bruno Bornsztein

as it turns out that the engines concept from rails 2.3.x is totally
different then needed by communityEngine and will never be a fit for
CE if not CE itself change a lot.

What? The Engines plugin still works in 2.3, so it's a non-issue.

So my question is: why should I still start using CE today and
sticking to some outdated railsversion which could be a problem sooner
or later with some other code, not to mention you will lose all the
nice features the new rails relalease comes with

This is incorrect. Just because we haven't released a 2.3 compatible version
YET, doesn't mean we never will. The next version release of CE will be
Rails 2.3 compatible.

[CommunityEngine] Re: Why should I still start today with CommunityEngine ?

2009-04-15 Thread matthi

Hi Bruno,

thx for the answer, I had stopped working with Rails for a long while
now and was not aware of all the changes to 2.3 etc and also had no
experience with the enginesplugin but in my fast and short freshup I
understood that a big part of the enginesplugin made its way in the
railscore meanwhile some concepts did not and again in my
understanding after fast review I thought that way some cornerconcepts
of CE will stop working under rails 2.3 and need a bigger refactoring,
what can allways be done for sure, no doubt, and I have not thought
that the enginesplugin will still work in 2.3 as I thought it would be
obsolete now

So I never had doubts someday you or someone else will make it 2.3
ready, but that was the way the question was meant: why should I start
today...if for a fresh new project you have to go with outdated
code...rails first of all etc.

So for now I will try TOG for my little project as it also fits my
needs and will keep an eye on future versions of CE. No doubt you have
done some nice work here and my testinstallation (even on win) worked
like a charm.

So I honestly appreciate your work and the sharing with the community

Best regards

matthi

2009-04-15 Thread Tom Bostelmann

I'm using edge CE with rails 2.3 and its working great, so far. The
code feels much improved with 2.3 - nice work!

Matthi,
When you pull down a git version from Github just make sure you take the
