Re: Really easy terminal emulator for a Compact?

I won't be using a modem, only a direct connection. I have the appropriate 25-pin D-type to DIN adapters. Hello Stuart. I believe the venerable Kermit application might fit the bill. I managed to find this link: http://www.columbia.edu/kermit/mac.html but by digging around the columbia.edu site you might be able to find something that will work on much earlier versions of The System. I used Kermit a long time ago on SunOS and it fitted the bill, being fairly simple. I'm sure others on this list may recommend alternatives, but this is the one I'd use. Thanks, I did look into fixing it but it was a little far gone. I did manage to reuse and recycle some of the components though so they avoided the land-fill. Might I make a small suggestion? I'd love to see some bigger photos of the finished tank. A whole bunch of them if poss. Good idea. Some of the shots on there are a little murky and I have yet to put fish in it (!) but with a new digital camera on the way and fish coming sooner I should have some prettier shots available soon. OT: Macquarium
I've had some free time recently and after getting hold of a sadly departed Mac SE I decided to make a Macquarium. This is nothing new or novel, but after trying to track down some decent step-by-step instructions on the web I found that a lot of them were lacking completeness. So I went ahead in earnest using what information I could find, and documented the process. I hope that I have produced some decent instructions but would like any feedback that you chaps could offer. So, with that in mind, and please excuse the typos, here it is in all it's glory: http://www.vollerama.com/macquarium Take care all, Paul -- Paul Voller Try http://vollerama.com/blog Smokey, this is not 'Nam this is bowling. Re: Mac Plus with System 6 online apps
Hello Sean, I got an old Classic up and running a couple of years back and had the same problems. The OS and the TCP/IP stuff all worked fine but I could not find a modern browser that would work. System 7.x+ was far too slow to be useful on that machine so I could not use that. AFAIK there are no modern WWW browsers available on System 6. The CPU overhead on rendering current pages is pretty big too and the little Plus will probably chug a heck of a lot. As for other utilities, email I found that an old copy of Eudora (I think version 1.3.1) worked well and for a terminal app I found that MacTerminal behaved correctly. That's listed on System 6 Heaven. Sorry my news is not positive but I wanted you to avoid going through the same lengthy searches that I did. Good luck, Paul On Mon, 28 Mar 2005 19:30:36 +0100, Sean Billings [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello, I have recently finished restoring my Mac Plus, and I have a shiny new version of 6.08 installed onto an HD20SC hard disk, I installed MacTCP and MacPPP to connect it to my network, everything has gone fine and I can confirm that MacTCP and PPP work fine on system 6. I must admit to being really impressed with the speed of system 6 and would really like to keep using it, but the problem is the apps! According to System 6 heaven the web browser to use is MacWWW (Samba) which I downloaded and installed, but it isn't really suitable for modern internet usage as it doesn't seem to support hardly any standards, for example you can't load google which I can using MacWeb and also doesn't seem to support HTTP 1.1 TBH it seems to be HTTP 0.9! Ok so next step was telnet, NCSA telnet 2.6 works reasonably well, but I seem to have some problems especially the lack of a Control key (I know this is the keyboards fault). Fetch 3.0.3 works to a degree but I get a system error if I do a directory refresh. And finally I though ok I'll try a newsreader so Sys 6 heaven again suggests The-news-240.hqx although the link was no longer valid I did find a download but I can't seem to get this app working either. So really I would like to know from any fellow system 6 users what apps do you recommend for the following: www? nntp news client? and, Telnet? Thank you.
