Of course, you couldn't actually mount the drive there, but it would work in a pinch. Lots of people have done that, and there were several third-party upgrades for it. The biggest problem with them was PSU loading issues. The SE's PSU is barely robust enough for a hard disk of that era and a single floppy. If you encounter an SE upgraded in such a manner, in the interest of preservation, see what you can do about finding a lower-power hard disk (newer, same RPM, and equivalent capacity usually means lower power). -- the pickle FAQ http://macfaq.org/index.shtml _ -- Compact Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/. Oh, and by the way, here is one question for anyone that wants to answer it: to use a SuperDrive in a Mac that only has 800k disk drives, what do you have to do? ROM update, hardware patch...? Depends on the Mac. The SE and Mac II both require a new ROM and floppy controller; earlier Macs can't use SuperDrives at all, and later Macs allow them to be dropped right in. -- the pickle FAQ http://macfaq.org/index.shtml _ -- Compact Macs is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/.
