For example new mail notification in Mozilla or new IM message in Kopete. I'm using Kernel 2.4.22-2 with ALSA 0.6.4 and Hercules Game Theater XP (using snd-cs46xx driver). Since then I upgraded kernel to version kernel-2.4.22.6mdk and this was still happening. I then tried several times to compile ALSA from CVS snapshot and the bug has yet to appear. Other users (with different sound cards) also confirmed thie problem on Cooker.

It never came to my mind to try with GNOME or some other WM. I had a similar problem and it works since I start artsd with -a alsa option.
