[CTRL] It's true that abortion is legal but, hey, so was the Holocaust

1999-02-10 Thread Mike Moxley

 -Caveat Lector-

It's true that abortion is legal but, hey, so was the Holocaust

Published in The Orlando Sentinel, Feb 7 1999

By Charley Reese Commentary

Some female columnist was screaming that violence directed against
abortion clinics is domestic terrorism. Her whining is a good example
of feminists' lack of logic.

In building her case, she quotes Bill Clinton's wife as saying that in
the past 10 years there had been seven killings, 38 bombings, 146
arsons and 733 instances of vandalism directed at abortion providers.

She neglected to say, of course, that during the same 10 years
abortionists killed more than 10 million children. One would think one
would wish to keep matters in perspective. But perspective is the last
thing a special pleader wants.

She tries to assert that the handful of crimes committed during a
10-year period constitutes a campaign of domestic terrorism. That's
balderdash.

Take, for example, seven killings during a 10-year period. Homicides
in the United States run on average from 18,000 to 22,000 per year.
Abortionists certainly run no greater risk of getting whacked than
normal people do.

But what about those 146 cases of arson during a 10-year period? Well,
in one typical year, say 1994, 17,000 Americans were arrested on a
charge of arson and 260,000 on a charge of vandalism.

In other words, violence directed at abortion clinics is greatly
exaggerated. It amounts to a mere pittance in the annual toll of
criminal behavior in our diverse, multicultural paradise.

Then she screams, "Hey, abortion is legal!"

Well, so was the Holocaust. The Nazis violated no German laws in
killing people during World War II. In fact, if a guard at a death
camp killed an inmate on his own, he was subject to courtmartial and
punishment. You see, whatever the Nazis wanted to do, they authorized
it by passing laws.

The point being that mass murder can be made legal. The Nazis made
mass murder legal during the Holocaust, and the U.S. Supreme Court
made mass murder legal in Roe vs. Wade. In fact, they both used the
same logic by depriving those earmarked for death of personhood.

To say something is legal is to say only that it has the stamp of
approval of the current government in power. It is not to say that it
is morally right, humane or good. Governments can make evil legal and
do it all the time.

It gives one great pause to reflect that the difference between being
a non-person with no right to life, marked by law for death, and being
a human being with the right to life boiled down to a few birth
contractions and a trip of a few inches down the birth canal.

It's as if the law, in its great politicized wisdom, said it's OK to
kill your children if you do it before they can get out of the
nursery, but once they crawl across the threshold into another room,
you can't kill them.

It seems to me that legalized killing of children, commonly called
abortion, is only one of the parallels between post-modern America and
the Germany that gave birth to Nazism. We have the same decadence, the
same militant defense of decadence by so-called intellectuals, the
same trend toward authoritarianism, the same disregard of human life,
the same unwillingness to make moral judgments.

Oswald Spengler, in his book, Decline of the West, projected that the
1990s would mark the transition between the Age of Money, marked by
the dominance of great cities and greed, to the Age of Caesars, a
return to dictatorships.

The ideological fanaticism of abortion-supporters leads me to believe
that the old gentleman may prove correct in his predictions.

I don't think we emphasize that enough these days. If we don't have
the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally end up with a

[CTRL] Another Chinese strategic coup

1999-02-10 Thread Mike Moxley

 -Caveat Lector-

TUESDAY FEBRUARY 09 1999

Charles Smith is a journalist and President of SOFTWAR, a computer
security company based in Richmond, VA. He writes frequently on issues
of national security and information warfare.
--
Another Chinese strategic coup

COSTIND, a Chinese army unit known for its successful penetration of
the Clinton White House, has scored another big success.

In 1997, Ge Hunbiao, the People's Liberation Army general and
political commissar of COSTIND, quietly signed a treaty obtaining the
Pacific island of Tarawa as a PLA satellite tracking and control
station.

The new Chinese army base was declared fully operational in January
1999. The position of Tarawa will allow China to monitor U.S.
ballistic missile and anti-ballistic missile (ABM) tests just 500
miles north in the Kwajalein Test Range.

According to the General Accounting Office, "COSTIND" -- the Chinese
Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense --
"oversees development of China's weapon systems and is responsible for
identifying and acquiring telecommunications technology applicable for
military use."

The Tarawa ground-based optical and radar-tracking system is far more
powerful than any system currently deployed at sea. The base allows
PLA forces to monitor and track U.S. ballistic missile tests in the
south Pacific test ranges without the expense of forward-deployed
Chinese navy tracking vessels.

The station also allows China to monitor U.S. forces in the Pacific
region. This capability includes military signals intercepts,
communications with PLA recon and ferret satellites, and target
acquisition for Chinese anti-satellite (A-SAT) systems such as
ground-based lasers.

A ground-based laser could be installed on Tarawa to give the PLA a
quick strike capability to shoot down or disable all U.S. military
satellites in time of war over the Pacific. However, a laser may not
be required to deny U.S. space assets from a Tarawa base. The PLA
could also use simple "barrage" radio jamming or high-power microwave
transmitters to disable U.S. satellites with existing equipment at the
site.

The base already allows the PLA to track U.S. fleet operations via
signal intercepts from Navy battle groups. Any major U.S. response to
hostile acts in the Asian region will require the immediate deployment
of U.S. carrier naval forces. These forces will either come across the
Pacific or through the Indian Ocean. The Tarawa base allows direct
signals intercepts and tracking of U.S. Navy forces in the mid-Pacific
area.

The PLA Tarawa base may also provide significant sonar and radio
emission signals intelligence to track U.S. submarine forces,
including the "Ohio" class of Trident missile boats which deploy from
the Pacific coast of Washington state. Secure fiber-optic cable
systems attached to microphones on the Pacific sea floor surrounding
the Tarawa atoll group may pick up undersea activities for hundreds of
miles.

The Tarawa signals intercept capability includes "traffic" analysis, a
form of information warfare that does not need sophisticated decoding
systems to determine U.S. intentions and military reactions. However,
breaches of secure code systems (e.g. John Walker) could allow PLA
forces to decipher messages in real time from U.S. satellites and
military forces.

Tarawa's mid-Pacific location is perfect for "cooking." A PLA ability
to decode U.S. military messages combined with high-speed U.S. built
computers may give the PLA the ability to intercept, decode and ALTER
American military communications in real-time. This capability is
called "cooking" in information warfare terms. Such a capability would
put all U.S. forces at grave danger of a Chinese first strike.

The base currently controls Chinese satellites in orbit. This
capability can include missiles or thermonuclear warheads in flight
through space. The PLA capability includes secure correction/control
of first strike nuclear warheads intended to destroy strategic
missiles and B-2 bombers on the American continent.

Based on the position of the satellite station in Tarawa the logical
military deployment would be for China to build a similar A-SAT site
in the far western provinces (e.g. Kazakhstan). Two A-SAT sites, one
in the Pacific and one along the western border, provides 100 percent
PLA denial of U.S. space forces covering the far-Asian areas of
conflict (e.g. Sea of China, Sea of Japan, Yellow Sea and Sea of
Okhotsk). The center of PLA A-SAT military operations, in geographic
terms, is Taiwan.

COSTIND, the Chinese Army unit responsible for the successful
deployment on Tarawa, has a long history of anti-American espionage
operations including penetrations of the Clinton White House.

President Clinton personally authorized LORAL Aerospace CEO Bernard
Schwartz to meet with a COSTIND General. In August 1994, Schwartz
accompanied Ron Brown on the Presidential Business Development Mission
trade trip to China. At the behest of

"U.S. Military Conducting TOXIC Biological-Chemical Warfare Against Civilians"

U.S. feds well on their way to reducing population to further New World Order
goals!

Dear Citizens, Patriots, and Veterans:

For the past 3 weeks I have been receiving first hand reports of U.S.
Military jets spraying toxic substances over populated urban areas testing the
effectiveness of their biological and chemical warfare protective suits and
monitoring equipment. The substances are SUPPOSEDLY "harmless" simulants
which have extremely toxic effects of their own. To date, literally thousands
of civilians have been made very sick mostly with respiratory illnesses and
distress and even scores of deaths.

The military has deceived the public and other authorities by saying that
what they are spraying are harmless simulants while in actuality they are
really conducting chemical and biological warfare with weapons of mass
destruction under the guise of meerly a "test." Yes, a test, to see how many
people will be made ill, contract respiratory diseases, and how many die. So,
do you call that at "test" or actual warfare?

We do not have to wait any longer for Clinton to antagonize the Middle
Eastern countries to the point of them lashing out with international
terrorists against U.S. cities and U.S. citizens, as Clinton is doing what he
is told to do by the Insiders, the Elites, the bosses of the Illuminati and
New World Order. As I posted to you all numerous times in the past, if
Clinton can't get the Islamics to attack the U.S. then Clinton will just go
ahead himself and do it. That is exactly what he is doing now.

Citizens, Patriots, and Veterans, no need to wait for these NBC - Nuclear,
Biological, and Chemical warfare attacks against us because they have been
going on for quite some time now. Why? Because the New World Order's
Elites' plan is to reduce the population of the world by 25% by the year 2000
(Y2K is truly an appropriate crisis), 50% by 2025, 75% shortly after that, and
by 85% to 95% as a final goal to leave only 200 million people alive world
wide. Of course these surviving people will only be comprised of the Elites
and their prison labor slaves incarcerated in Clinton's Civilian Concentration
Camps here in the U.S. and in other concentration camps around the world.
Why? Because the Elites want to "save" the world's natural resources for
themselves. They don't want other people using them as they think our
resources are running out when in actuality all we have to do is use our
technology to use them more efficiently and produce replaceable natural
resources. Like why use up our finite petroleum resources when we can use
bacteria and yeasts to grow on discarded organic matter to produce alcohol for
fuels?

England has had 6,000 deaths in the past two weeks from respiratory failure
caused by this Military spraying currently.

Please read the following post forwarded by [EMAIL PROTECTED] (John Hammell) and
by William Thomas [EMAIL PROTECTED] regarding the information from Leanard
Cole's "Clouds of Secrecy: The Army's Germ-Warfare Tests Over Populated
Areas," by Leonard A. Cole (http://amazon.com) and from numerous personal
reports nationwide about the criss-cross spraying by our U.S. Military.

Please take care and prepare. The NBC attacks against U.S. Citizens are
occurring NOW.

head? Hey, I wouldn't even care if he got into bestiality, as you so wittily
stated. That's his own business. The fact that he got involved with an
EMPLOYEE of his who is HALF HIS AGE is disturbing. Please, let's keep this
 discussion on the right track.

***
It may disturb me also if I were not his age. But since I am, I can't
fault him so greatly for that. But this is not about whether or not
older men should have sex with younger women, it is about whether or not
the President of the United States can force himself upon an employee,
lie in depositions related to a subsequent law suit stemming from this,
and use his powers as president to try to influence the case. If you
agree that he should be able to do this, then you do not favor his
impeachment. If you think that he should not do this, then you must
favor his impeachment or we have some sort of double standard. Unless,
of course, you believe men should be allowed this power over women.

But sexual harassment still exists even when both parties 'consent'...

The discussion began about a coup in general. That this one would be

Starr's conflicts of interests (which he failed to point out, when asked,

Why did Starr approach James Carville in an airport and "spout a shameful

1993, before Starr was even appointed as IC?
As for Paula Jones' version of events, I simply don't believe them. As

Are you concerned about Starr's alleged solicitation of perjury and

In the Nixon case, Gerald Ford was his replacement and he was not

understanding is that if Gore becomes president a new vice-president

replace him. So, we had a vice president and a president who both had
been appointed and not elected to their offices. And one was a Rockefeller!

   Howard Davis

The issue of overturning an election is a serious one. The Nixon
impeachment had bipartisan support and the support of the public. I've never
heard it suggested it was a coup.
***
You've never heard it suggested that it was a coup? I have heard that
theory on numerous occasions.

The question here is whether or not impeaching Clinton could be considered
a coup de etat. The argument made being that Gore would become President and
it wouldn't be a coup. I disagree. Overthrowing an elected President by
subversive means, whether or not a political ally would then become President
is still a coup, in my opinion.

***
Subversive means? It was he that initiated the problem with Paula Jones.
It was he that lied in testimony in a deposition in the subsequent

Isn't it true that the Senate had to approve Rockefeller's appointment as
VP? If so, as we've seen with judgeships and cabinet posts, approval of
Clinton appointees has repeatedly been delayed. If the approval process were
delayed long enough for "something to happen" to Gore, the Speaker would
 become President.

After seeing that there is no point BELOW which the President's enemies
will not go to regain the WH, I wouldn't put anything past them. They can't
seem to "earn it the old-fashioned way" and, having no honor whatsoever, will
beg, borrow, slander and steal to have it back.

The Klintonistas insistance on whining about "what about what Reagan and

Watergate: "Everyone ELSE did it!" And the Nixonians duly trotted out

 I am not
even sure that the real evidence of him having a problem showed up until
his failure to remember one of his staff in a deposition he gave after

I don't know -- all the news clips showing him asleep at cabinet and

years and having a problem remaining attentive for more than a few minutes
 at a time...

Senility -- especially Alzheimer's -- takes YEARS to develop into the
full-blown dementia Reagan now displays...the first signs can show up a
good 10, 15, 20 years before full dementia ensues...

***
I am actually not so sure that Reagan is as demented as many would
believe. The last speech he gave before the Republican Convention looked
to me like there was a plan to keep him from saying all that he had to
say. His speech kept getting interrupted at inappropriate and long
times. Maybe that is just the nature of conventions, but I remember
thinking that maybe there were some who wanted him silenced.
"Alzheimer's" would certainly be one way.

This is probably incorrect. The economy was "blown away" by Nixon's
ending of the dollars link with gold. The subsequent change in the
relationship between the two was reacted to by the OPEC nations with a
raising of their prices to reflect its true worth.

Also, it ignores that it was afterwards that there was NEVER any 'oil
shortage', that indeed the major oil companies (to which the Bush family
has major ties) had vast stockpiles of oil sitting in holding tanks along
the east, west, and gulf coasts...

Rather than OPEC driving up prices, it was the western oil companies
manipulating the situation to 'justify' a vast increase in the price of
 oil...

***
I agree with you on this to some degree, but think that it was more a
case of both working together.

From TheNewRepublic

February 22, 1999

Picture

The Veiled Threat

By Azar Nafisi

The Iranian theocracy's fear of females.

I would like to begin with a painting. It is Edgar Degas's Dancers
Practicing at the Bar, as reproduced in an artbook recently published in
the Islamic Republic of Iran. Under the heading "Spatial Organization," the
book gives a two-paragraph explanation of Degas's placement of the
ballerinas: "The two major forms are crowded into the upper right quadrant
of the painting, leaving the rest of the canvas as openspace"

So far, everything seems normal. But, like most things in Iran today, it is
not. Upon closer inspection, there is something disturbingly wrong with the
illustration accompanying this description, something that makes both the
painting and the serious tone of its discussion absurdly unreal: the
ballerinas, you see, have been air-brushed out. Instead, what meet the eye
are an empty space, the floor, the blank wall, and the bar. Like so many
other images of women in Iran, the ballerinas have been censored.

Of course, the irony is that, by removing the dancers, the censors have
succeeded only in making them the focus of our attention. Through their
absence, the dancers are rendered glaringly present. In this way, Degas's
painting is emblematic of a basic paradox of life in Iran, on the eve of
the twentieth anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. On the one hand,
the ruling Islamic regime has succeeded in completely repressing Iranian
women. Women are forbidden to go out in public unless they are covered by
clothing that conceals everything but their hands and faces. At all
government institutions, universities, and airports, there are separate
entrances for women, where they are searched for lipstick and other weapons
of mass destruction. No infraction is too small to escape notice. At the
university where I used to teach, one woman was penalized for "laughter of
a giggling kind." And, just recently, a female professor was expelled
because her wrist had shown from under her sleeve while she was writing on
the blackboard.

Yet, while these measures are meant to render women invisible and
powerless, they are paradoxically making women tremendously visible and
powerful. By attempting to control and shape every aspect of women's
lives--and by staking its legitimacy on the Iranian people's supposed
desire for this control--the regime has unwittingly handed women a powerful
weapon: every private act or gesture in defiance of official rules is now a
strong political statement. Meanwhile, because the regime's extreme
regulation of women's lives necessarily intrudes on the private lives of
men as well (whose every interaction with women is closely governed), the
regime has alienated not just women but many men who initially supported
the revolution.

This tension between the Islamic ruling elite and Iranian society at large
has been vastly underestimated by Western observers of Iran. In part this
is because, over the past 20 years, American analysts and academics, as
well as the Iranian exile community, have had little or no access to Iran.
Thus they have relied unduly on the image presented by Iran's ruling
clerics.

At present that image is one of increased openness--as symbolized by the
election of the moderate cleric Mohammed Khatami to the presidency back in
1997. Recently, for example, CNN cheerfully informed us that, after 20
years, the Islamic Republic has begun to show Hollywood movies. What CNN
failed to mention was that Iranian television's version of, for example,
Mary Poppins showed less than 45 minutes of the actual film. All portions
featuring women dancing or singing were cut out and instead described by an
Iranian narrator. In Popeye, all scenes involving Olive Oyl, whose person
and whose relationship with Popeye are considered lewd, were excised from
the cartoon. Meanwhile, even as the regime purports to have softened its
hostile stance toward the United States, it has not softened the punishment
meted out to Iranians who dare show an interest in American culture. In
fact, soon after he was appointed, Khatami's new education minister issued
a new directive forbidding students to bring material bearing the Latin
alphabet or other "decadent Western symbols" to class.

However, these are just the mildest examples of the many ways in which the
new openness that characterizes Khatami's rule has been accompanied by
increased repression. The brief spring that followed his victory--during

Electronic Telegraph
ISSUE 1356
Wednesday 10 February 1999

Ambrose Evans-Pritchard: Republicans let Clinton off the hook

IT is time to admit defeat. For the past six years I have been shouting
that Bill Clinton is a wicked man, with past ties to organised crime and
a tolerance for vicarious violence. I assumed that Americans would catch
on to this, and that most would object. For though they are famously
slow to anger, they are - or used to be - harsh in judgment. But the fat
times have dulled the senses and absolved all sins.

As for the Republicans, they are too timid, or too enmeshed in
Clintonian intrigue themselves, to pursue the real charges. They picked
on an Oval Office sex scandal instead.

During Watergate, the trio of press, Congress and the inquisitor (a
Democrat partisan and Kennedy protégé) worked together in synergy. As
they nudged the story forward, they gradually persuaded a sleepy nation
that something was amiss in the Nixon White House.

This time the media are on the sidelines - or fraternising. The
Washington Post has been caught feeding media intelligence to the White
House Counsel's office. NBC Television is sitting on an interview with
an Arkansas woman who was allegedly raped by Bill Clinton. She now
admits signing a false affidavit in the Paula Jones lawsuit, under
duress.

This is combustible stuff. It is also directly relevant to the
impeachment trial, which stems from witness tampering in the same case.
NBC may have grounds for caution, but does anybody believe it would have
hesitated to strike against Nixon?

Still, the Republicans have only themselves to blame for the bêtise of
indicting Mr Clinton on Monica Lewinsky charges. The counts were bound
to be mischaracterised as "lying about sex", and bound to serve as a
perverse vindication for the President. If that is all his persecutors
could find, we keep hearing, there cannot be much else.

But there is so much else. Congress did not have to confine the
impeachment to the findings of Kenneth Starr, the independent counsel.
By doing so, it became a prisoner of Mr Starr's own subtle agenda. This
is not to accuse Mr Starr of conjuring Miss Lewinsky as a distraction,
while orchestrating the real cover-up. His actions were never so
calculated. But Mr Starr is most assuredly not an "independent" counsel.
He is a creature of the Justice Department, where he once served as
chief-of-staff. His team in Washington has been dominated by fellow
insiders, and he has relied slavishly on the FBI to do the donkey work.

But it is precisely the politicisation of the Justice Department and the
FBI that forms the core scandal pervading the abuses of this
administration. Mr Clinton began his presidency by firing all senior
prosecutors, giving him direct control of the investigative machinery.

He then carried out a putsch at the FBI, sacking its director for the
first time in its history. This was taboo. The FBI director is appointed
for 10 years, like a judge, to ensure political independence.

Mr Starr has instinctively recoiled from confronting the FBI, limiting
his zeal to harmless follies that could be prosecuted without collateral
damage. He turned a blind eye when his deputy warned him about an FBI
cover-up in the investigation into the death of Vincent Foster, Hillary
Clinton's closest friend. Negligently - or worse - he failed to take
testimony from key witnesses in the "Filegate" affair, in which the
confidential FBI files of more than 900 Republicans were slipped to the
White House.

The story is emerging instead from a civil lawsuit. We have learnt that
the raw data were fed into computers for purposes of political
espionage, at the behest of Mrs Clinton. Had the Republicans folded this
into the impeachment inquiry, Americans might have taken a very
different view of the current trial. Misuse of the FBI, after all, was
Nixon's cardinal sin during Watergate.

But the Republicans have always been skittish about exposing the
dirtiest of Mr Clinton's dirty linen, lest their own (lesser)
indiscretions come to light. There is a Washington etiquette in these
matters, or put another way: they, too, are "mobbed up".

[CTRL] Hitchens blows Blumenthal.

1999-02-10 Thread nurev

 -Caveat Lector-

Meet the Press, February 7, 1999

MR. RUSSERT: But first, before we get to Monica Lewinsky’s video and the
final outcome of the president’s trial, there has been another twist in
this
strange saga. White House aide Sidney Blumenthal has testified under oath
he
never spread negative stories about Monica Lewinsky. But now a veteran
journalist has stepped forward to directly challenge Mr. Blumenthal.
Joining
us is Christopher Hitchens, who writes for The Nation and Vanity Fair
magazines.

Mr. Hitchens, welcome.

MR. HITCHENS: Good morning.

MR. RUSSERT: You have a signed affidavit which says that on March 19th you
and your wife had lunch with Mr. Blumenthal and that Mr. Blumenthal said
that Monica Lewinsky had been a stalker and that the president was the
victim of a predatory—an unstable, sexually demanding young woman. I now
want to show you and our audience an exchange that Mr. Blumenthal had this
very week with Congressman Lindsey Graham under oath in a deposition for
the
Senate:

(Videotape):

REPRESENTATIVE LINDSEY GRAHAM: Do you have any idea how White House sources
are associated with statements such as, "She’s known as the stalker?" Do
you
have any idea how that got in the press?

MR. SIDNEY BLUMENTHAL: I have no idea how anything came to be attributed to
a White House source.

(End videotape)

MR. RUSSERT: Mr. Hitchens, is Mr. Blumenthal telling the truth?

MR. HITCHENS: Well, he could be telling the truth if he says he has no idea
how things attributed to White House sources. But the fact of the matter is
that when I saw him for the first time since the scandal broke, that’s what
he said to me and to my wife and has said to many other people, that Monica
Lewinsky was a stalker and that this was an aspect of the matter that had
eluded people’s attention. And so I’m afraid to say that when I was rung by
the House committee, I didn’t know what Mr. Blumenthal was going to say or
what he had said. But I said what I’ve said to everyone since that day,
which is that as far as I could see, there was only one reason that that
story was in print and it was because the White House wanted it to be.

MR. RUSSERT: Did Mr. Blumenthal tell any other reporters that you know
about
Monica Lewinsky being a stalker?

MR. HITCHENS: Yes, he did.

MR. RUSSERT: How many?

MR. HITCHENS: Well, I don’t know a number. I would say of most of the
people
I know in the profession who heard that story, they knew it either directly
or indirectly from Mr. Blumenthal.

MR. RUSSERT: Now...

MR. HITCHENS: I’ve had to say to the House staffers who—now I know why they
call me. I mean, as I say, I’m not going to not say something because I get
called by the Congress, where I’ve said that I’m not going to say who
anyone
else was. They’ll have to find that out for themselves.

MR. RUSSERT: Mr...

MR. HITCHENS: But I don’t expect anyone to come and contradict me.

MR. RUSSERT: Was Mr. Blumenthal’s lunch with you off the record or for
background? Are you violating any agreement that you had with Mr.
Blumenthal
by coming public?

MR. HITCHENS: No. I understand, in any case, his lawyer has released
everyone. There seems to be some kind of challenge from any confidentiality
agreement they might have had. We knew each other too well to have, so to
speak, ground rules. I just was telling him as I’ve been telling him since
’
92 I think he’s working for a crooked president. And he said, "Well,
there’s
some stuff you don’t know," and he also added some, I thought, unpleasant
things about poor Katherine Willey, saying, "Well, her numbers are high now
after the accusations she had made but they won’t be so high later on." I
was upset that he would try and, as it were, shock me with such a vulgar
story.

MR. RUSSERT: You are convinced that Mr. Blumenthal was trying to plant with
you the fact that Monica Lewinsky was a stalker.

MR. HITCHENS: Well, let me put it like this. I mean, he has known since at
least 1992 that I have nothing but contempt for President Clinton. So I
don’
t think he can possibly have expected that I would do him this favor. When
I
’ve reflected upon it afterwards, I thought perhaps he was, so to speak,
honing the story or trying it out. But I then heard he’d told it to a
number
of other people, too. And it seems to me that that was the White House
strategy. I was astonished to find that he told it to the grand jury. If
you
take the case that he told it to only his immediate family and only to the
grand jury, though believing it to be exculpatory of the president, you
have
to believe the following, that Sidney Blumenthal, well-known to be a very,
very fluent and assiduous defender of the president, went around town with
evidence that would make Bill Clinton look good and kept it to himself. I
submit to you that’s not believable.

MR. RUSSERT: His attorney, William McDaniel, has just called NBC News and
read the following statement on behalf of Mr. Blumenthal. "I was never a
source for any story about Monica

Menem invites US to "dollarize" Argentina

By Bill Vann
10 February 1999

The proposal by the government of Prime Minister Carlos Menem for the
dollarization of the Argentine economy is an indication of the profound
crisis gripping not only Latin America, but world economic relations as a
whole. It is also a telling demonstration of the terminal crisis of
bourgeois nationalism.

Menem expressed his unreserved enthusiasm for the plan on January 26,
barely one week after the idea was first publicly floated by Pedro Pau, the
president of the Argentine Central Bank, to adopt the dollar as the sole
legal currency for Argentina through a "bilateral monetary association
treaty."

Pau said that conversion to the dollar and the phasing out of the peso
would "eliminate any risk of devaluation in Argentina and decrease interest
rates" on the country's debts. This proposal would in reality turn
Argentina into an economic semi-colony of the US. Monetary policy would be
determined not in Buenos Aires, but by the Federal Reserve Board in
Washington.

In the interest of guaranteeing stable conditions to foreign capitalist
investors, the Argentine government is proposing to cede its ability to
offer any protection to national industry. If Washington set interest rates
too high for Argentine steelmakers or other industries to borrow money,
they would simply be forced to the wall.

The proposal comes nearly eight years after Argentina pegged the peso to
the dollar under the Convertibility Law of 1991. Then-Finance Minister
Domingo Cavallo crafted the plan which established a fixed parity between
the peso and the dollar. Under the so-called currency board, the dollar
became legal tender in Argentina, while the government agreed to issue no
new pesos unless the money was backed 100 percent by dollar reserves in the
central bank.

This tight money policy in turn became the spur for the free market
liberalization program introduced by Menem that has seen the privatization
of the railroads, telecommunications and other key sectors of the economy,
together with the scrapping of subsidies and social services.

That Menem, the head of the Justicialista Party founded by Juan Peron,
should now embrace a proposal to do away with the national currency
altogether is a development of no small historical significance, or irony.
In the 1940s, Peron emerged as the foremost exponent of Latin American
nationalism, challenging Argentines to choose between him and the "Yankee"
ambassador Braden and promising a program of economic independence,
political sovereignty and social justice.

A half a century later, his political heir advocates placing the Argentine
economy under the tutelage of US Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan
Greenspan.

In a press conference held at the governor's palace in the province of
Rioja, Menem claimed that the plan would have no adverse effect on
Argentine sovereignty and would be part of a regionwide monetary union. He
compared the proposal to the recent introduction of the euro by the member
states of the European Union.

The proposal got a response last week from Nicolás Eyzaguirre, the
executive director of the International Monetary Fund, who declared, "In
Argentina, dollarization is feasible; and I would even say appropriate."
Menem responded to the IMF's encouragement by reiterating that
dollarization constitutes a "strategic priority" for his government, which
is drawing up a formal proposal to present to Washington.

While some regional officials indicated support for the idea and business
groups as far away as Mexico expressed interest, the plan has by no means
met with universal approval. Political opponents of Menem in Argentina
charged that the proposal would turn the country into another Puerto Rico.
Many pointed out that there is a fundamental difference between the dollar
and the euro. While the latter is a mutually agreed upon creation of a
group of countries, the dollar is the existing currency of the United
State, which has historically exploited the nations of Latin America as an
imperialist power.

Given the vast economic and social disparities between North America and
Latin America, no one is under any illusion that Washington would be
willing to cede control of its monetary policy to some supranational body
run jointly with the governments of Latin America. Nor is it conceivable
that the US government would allow the kind of semi-open borders that are
being established between the countries of the European Union.

Meeting with Argentine officials in Brasilia, Brazil's Minister of
Development Industry and Trade Celso Lafer made it clear that his
government does not believe the plan will further capitalist interests in
that country and that Brazil does not want to be irrevocably tied to an
American economic sphere of influence.

"Our first evaluation is that dollarization would not contribute to a
constructive way

An atmosphere of instability and crisis

World leaders gather at King Hussein's funeral

By Peter Symonds
10 February 1999

The public funeral of King Hussein of Jordan conducted with great pomp and
ceremony this Monday in the capital of Amman, was an extraordinary, if
rather bizarre, spectacle that has served to underscore the highly
inflammable and contradictory character of political relations throughout
the region, and internationally.

Delegations and representatives of 75 different countries were in
attendance--a greater turnout than for the funeral of either Yitzhak Rabin,
the Israeli prime minister assassinated in 1995, or Anwar Sadat, the
Egyptian President who met a similar fate in 1981. The US delegation
included Bill Clinton as well as three former US presidents--Bush, Carter
and Ford--senior officials and policy advisers. French President Jacques
Chirac, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Prince Charles were present
as was Russian President Boris Yeltsin who dragged himself from his sick
bed and, against the advice of his doctors, flew to Amman only to leave
before the service.

The funeral brought together bitter enemies in the strangest of political
paradoxes. At the last moment, Syria's President Hafez Assad, who in 1958
had ordered his jet fighters to shoot down Hussein's plane and had set in
motion numerous other assassination attempts, arrived in Amman to head his
country's delegation. For the first time, Assad took part in a public
ceremony alongside a 23-person delegation from Israel, including Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Top officials from Iraq and Libya, countries still technically at war with
Israel, were present as were representatives from the Islamic
fundamentalist group Hamas. The guests included Hamas leader Khaled Meshal,
who was the target of an assassination attempt in Amman in 1997, and Efraim
Halevy, director of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad, who ordered
the failed attack.

The turnout at the ceremony was only matched by the gushing tributes in the
international media for King Hussein and his family. The TV cameras
focussed attention on the grief displayed by Jordanians in the streets over
the death of the king. Commentators variously portrayed him as a man of the
people, a popular monarch with "the common touch," as the builder of the
modern Jordanian nation and the "greatest peacemaker" in the so-called
Middle East peace process.

What was missing from all accounts was any explanation as to why the dead
monarch should merit a level of attention and glorification at odds with
the actual political and economic significance of Jordan--an artificial
construct of the great power intrigues during and after World War I. It is,
after all, a country the size of the US state of South Carolina, seven
eighths of which is arid desert, with a population of around 5 million, a
GDP of about $US8 billion, lacking in oil or other valuable natural
resources, and hemmed in all sides by larger, more powerful and often
hostile nation states.

The significance of the focus on Hussein and Jordan is two-fold. Firstly,
the leaders were not paying their respects to a representative of the Arab
masses but were mourning the loss of a valuable political asset who for 47
years served as a rather shameless tool for the machinations of the major
powers, including Israel, in the region. The outpouring of praise appeared
to be in direct proportion to the subservience of the Jordanian regime. It
is worth noting that the Israeli leadership, for whom Jordan has become
virtually a client state, declared a day of mourning to mark Hussein's
death and flew its flags at half-mast.

There was also no doubt an element of admiration for an autocrat who had
clung to power so tenaciously for so long, surviving at least 12
assassination attempts and seven coup plots through a mixture of
ruthlessness, cunning and sheer luck. No-one believed when Hussein was
proclaimed king at the age of 16 in 1952 that his reign would last for more
than four decades. Yet with the backing first of Britain, then of the US,
he and his semi-feudal regime were able to continually tack through the
ever-changing and conflicting interests of the Middle East--and survive.

Secondly, the attendance of world leaders is a mark of the great
instability of the times--in Jordan, the neighbouring West Bank and Israel,
throughout the region and internationally. It is ironic that for all the
absurd talk about Hussein as the father of peace and stability within the
region, the growing economic and political crisis in Jordan itself could
turn out to be the spark which ignites the Middle Eastern tinderbox. Just
days before his death Hussein conducted what amounted to a palace coup,
inserting his 37-year-old son Abdullah as his successor in place of his
younger brother Hussan. The new king is a virtual unknown with no political
experience, whose only training is in

Russia's Missile Defenses Eroding
Gaps in Early-Warning Satellite Coverage Raise Risk of Launch Error

By David Hoffman
Washington Post Foreign Service
Wednesday, February 10, 1999; Page A01

MOSCOW—Russia's early-warning defense against missile attack, a key aspect
of the hair-trigger doctrine of nuclear deterrence, is deteriorating
because Moscow cannot replenish the array of satellites it needs to monitor
U.S. missile silos and submarines, according to Russian and Western
security analysts.

For several hours each day, Russian military commanders cannot see any of
the U.S. missile fields, nor can they monitor the most dangerous threat to
their own forces -- U.S. Trident submarines submerged in the world's
oceans, these specialists said.

Russia has not launched an early-warning satellite in nearly a year, they
added, and U.S.-Russian plans for sharing early-warning data, announced
last September by Presidents Clinton and Boris Yeltsin, have not been
implemented. Such cooperation involves highly sophisticated equipment and
the transfer of ultrasensitive defense information, analysts say, and a
legacy of distrust persists on both sides.

Although the Cold War has ended, Russia and the United States remain on
constant nuclear alert. Both sides say that if attacked they will unleash
massive retaliation, even before enemy warheads arrive; the strategy is
that such a stance will discourage any first strike.

But the threat of retaliation requires accurate early warning, and without
it, Russian decision-makers are blindfolded. Some Western specialists say
the growing gaps in the area covered by Russia's early-warning satellites
have increased the risks of a serious miscalculation, because Russian
commanders will have less time to decide if a launch report is real.

There have been several close calls. In September 1983, the Soviet
early-warning system sent a false signal to ground stations that a U.S.
missile attack was underway. After a few anxious minutes deep in a Soviet
defense bunker, the mistake was recognized by an officer on duty. In
another case that highlights the early-warning risks, the launch of a
Norwegian scientific rocket in 1995 triggered a false alarm that was
reported all the way to Yeltsin.

At the time of the 1983 alarm, the Soviet satellites positioned to detect
U.S. ballistic missile launches had been on station for only about a year.
Launched into a high elliptical orbit, the satellites did not look directly
down at Earth; rather, they peered at an angle, depending on infrared waves
to identify the hot exhaust of a rocket against the black background of
space.

To keep tabs on U.S. missile fields, an array of satellites was needed.
Their space tracks followed one after another, sweeping over the known
missile locations in the United States; but they were prone to drift from
their orbits and had to be replaced often.

The full early-warning system of that era had nine satellites. On the day
of the false alarm, there were seven in orbit, according to Paul Podvig, a
research associate at the Center for Arms Control, Energy and Environmental
Studies here. Podvig said the seven satellites were sufficient to cover all
the U.S. missile fields because the full overlay of nine was designed with
some overlap.

That same system is still in use, but because of its crippling financial
problems, Russia has not put a single early-warning satellite into orbit
since last April. Some existing satellites ceased working as recently as
last year, and, according to Podvig, the system now has only three active
satellites -- less than half the number at the time of the 1983 alarm and
just a third of the full constellation.

The Soviets created a second satellite system in the late 1980s -- this one
in geostationary orbit, meaning that each of these satellites remains above
one place on the Earth's surface. Two of these are still functioning,
Podvig said, with one sited to cover some of the gaps in the original array
of satellite.

But gaps remain, however. Every 24 hours, the high elliptical satellite
system is blind during two periods; one is nearly six hours long, the other
about an hour long, Podvig said. Even with the help of the geostationary
satellites, there is a daily gap of about three hours, he said.

"Over the last five or six years, Russia kept the configuration working all
the time," Podvig said. "But it started disintegrating at the beginning of
1998. The situation in the last six years wasn't good, but they had
reserves. They kept it working. Now, they have used up those reserves. The
problem is serious."

There is some uncertainty among Western and Russian experts about the
capabilities of the satellites in geostationary orbit. At issue is whether
one of these satellites, Cosmos-2224, is capable of looking directly down
at the world's oceans, where the Trident submarines patrol.

Podvig said he believes it can look down at the North Atlantic --

Dear Mr. Moxley--
In the past month, the state legislature of NY State awarded themselves raises in the
$20-40k range. The governor, George Pataki, gave his aides $50k raises. Meanwhile
one in four children in NY State live in poverty. People and families cut from the
welfare
rolls, cannot find jobs or cannot find jobs that pay a living wage.

When that changes, and all children born are well-cared for--or at least given a
reasonable chance at health, personal safety, and education--then I might consider
changing my pro-choice stand.

When you argue anti-abortion, you are arguing for exponentially increasing the number
of children who will be malnourished, poorly cared for by parents struggling to merely
survive, and who, in many cases, will swell the ranks of the prison population. (And
yes, Pataki wants to use the budget "surplus" to build new prisons, not to rebuild NY
City's Dickensian schools). So, in essence, you are arguing for prisonsand the new
slave class.

I consider myself a feminist. If a woman cannot support and care for a child--or
another
child, as the case may be--then she should have abortion as a choice open to her.
No woman WANTS an abortion but sometimes abortion is the reasonable choice. You
should keep in mind that at least 1/5 of the women who do have abortions are Catholic.
That's one out of every five.

Just missed the opening details, but NPR reported this evening on a rather noisy
demonstration in New York?, where folks who had been cut from welfare were
protesting the lack of jobs and/or jobs that pay a living wage. The speaker made the
point that one in four children in NY State are living in poverty and that working
families, as well as working mothers, cannot afford to live on what they earn.

Thought I'd catch the whole story on the evening news. Guess what? It wasn't there.

A lot of people are very angry that NY's statespeople voted themselves annual ranging
from $20-40K, while Pataki gave his aides $50kK raises. Their salaries are the highest
in the nation. As someone who has recently started receiving Social Security--after a
lifetime on the job, I got a 2% cost of living raise--which amounts to $10--that's ten
dollars--a month$120 a year.

Something fishy here. And Pataki sees himself as presidential caliber? That's the
GOP party line. And they talk about "entitlements."? And cutting Social Security
benefits? I guess it's Banana Republic time.

 What happened
in Kingsville, Texas, Monday night?
Residents report unmarked helicopters,
soldiers dropping from ropes

KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Local residents are
distraught over a near disaster during a secret
Army training exercise.
Local officials claim they were sworn to secrecy.
Getting factual information about what happened is
next to impossible.
Reports from residents told of low flying,
unmarked helicopters and soldiers dropping down
from ropes in the center of the town after dark
Monday night. WorldNetDaily was told that the
police station burned and a commercial building
was severely damaged.
The assistant police chief confirmed what no one
else would admit.
"The United States Army Special Operations Command
was conducting a training exercise in our area,"
admitted Arthur Rogers when the police chief was
unavailable for comment. He refused further
details.
That was more than Mayor Phil Esquivel would
disclose. He said he was sworn to secrecy for
national security reasons. His answers were
evasive and without detail.
When Esquivel was asked about damage he denied
there was any. When he was told that damage was
reported by a witness, he revised his comments.
"If there was any damage done, they were going to
repair it, but I haven't gotten an assessment of
the properties," the mayor stated. He then
admitted there was a fire, but would not comment
on the cause or the extent of damage.
Was there damage to a building?
"Possibly," said Esquivel. "An abandoned building
that was going to be torn down anyway." It was
learned from another witness that the damaged
building was a commercial building that is not
going to be torn down.
Witnesses reported that black helicopters with no
identification markings flew into the city just
after dark. They arrived in the center of the
city, which had been evacuated by police. The
secret training exercise lasted several hours.
When it was over an abandoned police station had
been accidentally set on fire and the Exxon
building was badly damaged when one or more
helicopters landed on the roof. Windows of
buildings were also broken.
"I live out in the country and they flew right
over us and our house just trembled. That's how
low they were going," said Thelma, a resident who
would give only her first name.
Esquivel claims he is just being a good citizen by
not giving the details. He confirmed that he had
granted permission for the exercise, but he
refused to say how long ago permission was granted
or which branch of the military was involved.
"They asked me to keep it secret," repeated
Esquivel several times. "I respect national
security. It was very well controlled and no one
was hurt.
"It didn't expend city taxpayers dollars. It did
not put citizens of Kingsville in jeopardy. The
police department warned all surrounding
neighbors. We're supporting national security."
Many residents have been complaining extensively.
In between life insurance sales appointments, the
mayor has been fielding angry phone calls.
"I'm glad that this gets out. This is total B.S.
If we don't stop it now it's going to get worse,"
John Rohmfeld, who lives there, told
WorldNetDaily. "Apparently this was a secret
operation.
"They meant to come in here and see what the hell
they can get away with. I'm not going to let them
get away with it," he stated.
The mayor tells all the concerned callers the same
thing:
"It was a training exercise that would insure
national security if we ever need it. It was asked
not to disclose what armed services or what
division of the armed services it was in, but it
is supporting national security."
There are 25,000 residents of Kingsville, a town
near Corpus Christi and home of the Kingsville
Naval Station. Residents are used to seeing
military people around town, but not repelling
down from helicopters.
They want to know what happened in their town. Not
knowing causes fear, and refusal to answer
questions causes them to lose trust in their
leaders.
The local barber shop is usually the center of
gossip and discussion of current events. The day
after the exercise there were only questions and
doubt, which were the result of no official word
on what happened.
"I don't like something like that. I don't like
what was going on," said barber Joel Gant.
For now, the questions remain. The army public
relations officer failed to return calls from
WorldNetDaily, and no one in an official position
was willing to explain what happened.

In the Nixon case, Gerald Ford was his replacement and he was not

understanding is that if Gore becomes president a new vice-president

The issue of overturning an election is a serious one. The Nixon

Subversive means? It was he that initiated the problem with Paula Jones.
It was he that lied in testimony in a deposition in the subsequent

Isn't it true that the Senate had to approve Rockefeller's appointment as

Clinton appointees has repeatedly been delayed. If the approval process were
delayed long enough for "something to happen" to Gore, the Speaker would

After seeing that there is no point BELOW which the President's enemies

If Clinton is impeached and Gore takes over as president and then the

Otherwise, you are just making suppositions.

Re: [CTRL] You're NOT going to believe this!!!

 -Caveat Lector-

Out of the mouths of babes! Why? HIV
and AIDS - supposivly sexually transmitted?
That means that they need a warm, moist enviroment.
How do we keep blood supplies?
The last time I looked they were kept chilled.
How could blood transfusions ever have
given AIDS? They might have given some
of the other deseases. So this is why they are
refering to the ""Fact?"" that the polio vacines
may have been contaiminated
even - "with dead virus"..

People we are being had.

This means that the Mercury
and "formalin" which is another word for "Formaldehyde"
are probally much worse
then they are saying and that it is the possibility
that those retroviruses are actually
against Mercury or formalin - something like
how the flu shot ended up actally
hurting some. I may not have the link up
exactly right, but I do believe that it is
the Mercury or formalin that is the underling
cause.

Wonder if Cattle shots are made the same way?
If so I think they are getting ready
to give us some serious trouble!!! Can
you imagion horse breeders? Sheep herders?

Still trying to make us afraid of our natural
food supply.

Does anyone have a url for how the body reacts
to Mercury, formalin or formaldehyde? I do
have some of the mercury links already.

You probably believe the organ-harvesting story, the 'you'll be killed
if
you flash your headlights' story, the 'send a card to this sick kid'
story, the 'Disney and Microsoft are giving free trips to Disneyland'
story, and the Nieman-Marcus cookie story, too...

THIS IS A HOAX AND AN URBAN LEGEND.

First off, the HIV virus degrades very rapidly when exposed to air...no
object which may have contained the virus, including a hypodermic,
would
contain a live virus for long under such conditions.

Secondly, notice that no names of the 'doctors' who 'tested the needle'
are mentioned, neither is the facility where the supposed test was
conducted...indeed, we aren't even told what city or state this
supposedly occured in, an obvious sign that this is a hoax.

WHAT 'Metro Police Dept'?? Like the 'gang members will kill you
if you
flash your headlights' hoax, the name of the police department supposedly
issuing this alert is never mentioned...this story is ALSO a hoax.

Notice that no names are ever given, neither the name of the actual
'phone company' supposedly issuing the alert.

[CTRL] Open Air Testing

1999-02-10 Thread Hilary A. Thomas

 -Caveat Lector-

United States Senate Testimony before the Committee on Veterans' Affairs
May 6, 1994
Open Air Testing with Simulated Biological and Chemical Warfare Agents

By Leonard A. Cole, Ph.D.
My name is Leonard A. Cole, and I teach science and public policy at
Rutgers University in Newark. My research interests include biological and
chemical warfare policies, and I have written in particular about testing
done in the U.S Army's biological defense program.
I appreciate your invitation, Senator Rockefeller, to testify about
experiments involving simulated biological and chemical warfare agents.
These agents, which the army calls simulants, are intended to mimic more
lethal bacteria and chemicals that might be used in actual warfare.
As described in my book, Clouds of Secrecy, the army began a program in
1949 to assess the nation's vulnerability to attack with biological
weapons. During the next 20 years, the army released simulant agents over
hundreds of populated areas around the country. Targets included portions
of Hawaii and Alaska, San Francisco, St. Louis, Minneapolis, New York City,
Washington, D.C., Key West, and many other cities. The purpose was to see
how the bacteria spread and survived as people went about their normal
activities.
Evidence suggested that the tests may have been causing illness to exposed
citizens. Nevertheless, as army spokesmen subsequently testified, the
health of the millions of people exposed was never monitored because the
army assumed that the bacteria and chemicals were harmless.
Vulnerability testing continues at Dugway Proving Ground, 70 miles from
Salt Lake City. Several smaller communities are closer to the base, and
Dugway itself is home to hundreds of civilians and military personnel and
their families. The stated purpose of the tests is to evaluate biological
detector systems and protective gear.
Since tests involve spraying simulants outdoors, it is important to
understand how much risk they pose to humans who are exposed. Official
statements have not always been dear on this matter. A July 1993 news
release by the Dugway Public Affairs Office indicates that "no specific
safety controls or protection are required for testing with simulants." The
statement implies, erroneously, that the simulants are harmless.
In fact, during 45 years of open air testing, from time to time the army
has stopped using certain simulants for reasons of safety. In each instance
the army belatedly recognized they could be causing disease and death,
although such information had long been available in the medical
literature. This was the case in the 1950s when it ceased using the fungus
Aspergillus fumigatus as a simulant. The fungus had long been known to
cause aspergillosis, a disease that can be fatal. Similarly, in the 1960s
the army stopped using zinc cadmium sulfide, a chemical that had been known
for years to cause cancer.
In the 1970s, the bacterium Serratia marcescens, a source of infections
that can lead to death, was taken out of service as a simulant. And in the
1980s, dimethyl methylphosphonate, a chemical known as DPP, was removed
from use as a simulant because of its carcinogenic and other toxic
potential. I understand that one of today's witnesses, Earl Davenport, was
exposed to DMMP at Dugway in 1984 and may still be suffering health
problems as a result.
Indeed, simulants now used at Dugway continue to pose risks. The chemical
ethylene oxide, which is present in some of the mixtures used in outdoor
spraying, is a known carcinogen. The bacterium Bacillus subtilis, while not
generally seen as dangerous, is cited in medical textbooks as able to cause
serious infections. In truth any microorganism that seems harmless under
some circumstances may cause illness under others.
Exposure to high concentrations of any microorganism can be critically
dangerous to people in weakened conditions. The elderly, the very young,
people with AIDS and others who have weakened immune systems are more
susceptible to life threatening infections. Nevertheless, the army has not
monitored the health of citizens who may have been exposed during its tests
while maintaining that its bacterial agents cause no harm.
In addition to people who are unwittingly exposed to the army's bacteria
and chemicals, human research subjects may not be receiving appropriate
information. A test at Dugway in November 1993, for example, raises
important questions in this regard. The test was intended to assess the
ability of chemical agents to penetrate protective clothing.
Test subjects wore special outer garments and were then sprayed with
chemicals in simulated battle conditions. An army Environmental Assessment
before the test indicated that some of the chemicals could be toxic. Yet
the consent form that the subjects signed in advance of the test said
nothing about any of the chemicals.
Subsequently, two of the test subjects said they were asked to sign another
consent form sometime after the test had

Re: [CTRL] Internet Censorship - what a bummer

1999-02-10 Thread Source - Richard

 -Caveat Lector-

Well folks, after having a few conversations with some of my contacts, I’m convinced
that we should all just unsubscribe from the Net and go back to writing good,
old-fashioned letters. The internet, perhaps the last truly free means of information
exchange in the Western World, may soon be choked by censorship and governmental
controls. The circumscribing of the net may cause the death of what has become the
first people-to-people exchange of ideas and information on a world wide basis. The
forces behind this effort appear at first glance to be an unlikely coalition of
conspirators, the CIA, some Jewish Religious groups, and various foreign governments.
While this unholy alliance for censorship and control may seem unusual to some,
politics makes the bed for these strange fellows. Indisputably, an international cabal
of special interest groups both within and out of governments are working both openly
and secretly to end the unregulated direct exchange of information between people. At
stake is nothing less then the regaining of information control which the internet has
shattered. Up for grabs is nothing more than the thinking and decision making
abilities of informed men. You probably already have your own theories about this
little conspiracy, but I think it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee folks
(particularly those on AOL or AOL lists – oops, that’s us !!).

Information has flowed from the top down for most of this century. Filtering of
information by middle men from government, newspapers, radio, and then television has
left most people depending upon Paul Harvey "for the rest of the story." Suddenly,
almost without warning, the internet mushroomed into popularity connecting people all
over the world together electronically and thereby threatening the power of those who
disseminate information. If
information is power, then the control of information is more power. The ideas of men
are shaped by what they are told. For those who hope to erect a "New World Order" upon
what they view as the antiquated ashes of free speech, control of the internet has
jumped to near top of the list of "things to do." Governments and religious groups
manipulate and control people by what they are allowed to know or not know. A decision
has been made by the
information brokers to end unregulated information exchange. Overnight the propaganda
begins as these forces build their case for control and censorship.
Quickly the nightly news lights up with horror stories of pornography on the net (in
fact as I type the news is relaying yet another perpetrator). Minutes later the same
channel runs four hours of lurid programming bringing profanity, sex, sodomites and
violence into the homes of viewers who were just shocked about porno on the net (Hello
UK Channel 5). Newspapers carry feature length stories about children being lured from
home over the computer telephone line, as if somehow typing a request to a child for
sex over the phone line is
more effective than saying it over the same phone line. The Anti-Defamation League
issues reports saying that bomb plans can be found on the net along with anti- Jewish
opinion. As if the same were not available in every public library in the United
States. Politicians in Washington began to talk about "protecting the children." The
same politicians who's destructive social policies and no win wars have destroyed more
mothers sons than all the pagan empires of the past. Rabbi Abraham Cooper calls for
censorship of politically incorrect ideas in Canada and asks for the establishment of
an "internet police." A delegation from the Nazi- hunting Simon Wiesenthal Center in
Vienna Austria, which has for the most part run out of eighty year old former Nazis to
hunt, takes on the new task of information censors and asks Italian Prime Minister
Lamberto Dini, European Union president to back World Jewish Congress initiatives to
stop those who disagree on the impact and importance of the holocaust from using the
internet. Then in a joint effort of the ADL and the Simon Wiesenthal Center letters
are mailed to Internet service providers urging providers not to carry messages that
contain non-complimentary opinion about Jews, which is quickly labeled as "cyberhate
speech." This is but a glimpse of the public efforts of the information censors to
unleash "info police" on the net. It is clear that those who have previously served as
the middlemen of politically correct information are distraught at their having been
taken out of the loop.
Meanwhile, sources within the federal government, who wish to remain unnamed (please
don’t ask me), reveal that there are considerable behind the scene efforts to bring
the flow of information under government control. In the labyrinthine bunkers of the
CIA in Arlington Virginia, a team of planners has begun discussion on how to control
the net by establishing internet node servers

Re: [CTRL] Internet Censorship - what a bummer

1999-02-10 Thread U.P.secr.

 -Caveat Lector-

The Internet probably is the last hope for our planet.

But old-fashioned letters might become an alternate provisional solution, if
we organize properly before the censorship is a reality and/or the Y2K will
close down the Net:

After all, ultimately it is the trade unions and individuals in the
communication sector and not the corporations, their politicians and agencies
that decide WHICH ONE of the two antagonistic parties they want to serve and
in WHICH WAY, in either of the two situations.

In the ideal case the last mentioned situation might even turn out to be to our
advantage over the corporations.

Source - Richard skrev:

  -Caveat Lector-

Well folks, after having a few conversations with some of my contacts, I’m
convinced that we should all just unsubscribe from the Net and go back to writing
good, old-fashioned letters. The internet, perhaps the last truly free means of
information exchange in the Western World, may soon be choked by censorship and
governmental controls. The circumscribing of the net may cause the death of what has
become the first people-to-people exchange of ideas and information on a world wide
basis. The forces behind this effort appear at first glance to be an unlikely
coalition of conspirators, the CIA, some Jewish Religious groups, and various foreign
governments. While this unholy alliance for censorship and control may seem unusual
to some, politics makes the bed for these strange fellows. Indisputably, an
international cabal of special interest groups both within and out of governments are
working both openly and secretly to end the unregulated direct exchange of
information between
people. At stake is nothing less then the regaining of information control which the
internet has shattered. Up for grabs is nothing more than the thinking and decision
making abilities of informed men. You probably already have your own theories about
this little conspiracy, but I think it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee folks

The ideas of
men are shaped by what they are told. For those who hope to erect a "New World Order"
upon what they view as the antiquated ashes of free speech, control of the internet
has jumped to near top of the list of "things to do." Governments and religious
groups manipulate and control people by what they are allowed to know or not know. A
decision has been made by the
information brokers to end unregulated information exchange. Overnight the
propaganda begins as these forces build their case for control and censorship.
Quickly the nightly news lights up with horror stories of pornography on the net (in
fact as I type the news is relaying yet another perpetrator). Minutes later the same
channel runs four hours of lurid programming bringing profanity, sex, sodomites and
violence into the homes of viewers who were just shocked about porno on the net

Re: [CTRL] [prj] DOPE SUPPORTERS 03 My Body.A

1999-02-10 Thread nessie

 -Caveat Lector-

I would ask each and every one of you WHAT drug cartels existed at the
time government began regulating? Certainly there were no Mexican or
Columbian drug lords then.

They are Johnny-come-lately puppets and stooges, poseurs and wannabes.
Look behind them.

The first real drug cartel in the modern sense was German.
It's still here. It's bigger than ever. It is still the most powerful
force in the pharmaceutical industry and a major player on the world
economic stage. We just don't hear about it on the news, that's all.
The "cartels" we hear about are, at best, among of its subsidiaries.
Mostly though, it treats them like labor, underpaid and easily
replaced. It is hard for stiffs like us to think of the unbelievable
fortunes they make as constituting underpayment, but try. Follow the
money. Don't lose the trail in Cali. The REAL money goes to their
suppliers, the insidious fascist and Nazi cabal at the core of the
modern drug trade. Their extent of their profits, and society's loss,
is scarcely conceivable. Suffice to say that they have made the
Fascist International, in the guise of its various fronts, a major
player on the world economic stage. Worse, the profit is not merely
and end in and of itself; it is a means. It feeds the fascist war
chest and hastens the day of their total world domination.

The users, particularly the small but significant minority of users
who are actually addicts, profit least of all the people directly
involved. In a very real sense they lose big. We lose bigger. We have
lost our basic rights, our security, and common sense. By "warring" on
drugs we are providing a funding source to the greatest enemies of
liberty the world has ever known. Their puppet politicians have set
the price for the commodity the sell at astronomically inflated
prices. This is economic warfare. Their ubiquitous propaganda has
convinced most of us to go along with it. This is psychological
warfare. The drugs themselves are chemical warfare. The real war isn't
against drugs, it's against liberty. We're losing the war.

The drugs themselves have virtually negligible production costs.
Labor, as usual, is what adds the value. The people we hear called
"cartels" on the news are laborers. They are soldiers, accountants,
pilots, executives, secretaries, lawyers, spies, drivers, loaders and
kickers. They are not the bosses. It is best to conceive of them in
military terms because that is their primary function. The so called
"War On (Some) Drugs" really is a war. It is not a war against drugs;
it is a war against us and what is left of our human rights. In
military terms the "cartels" we see on the evening news are the
"irregular auxiliaries" of the REAL cartel that pulls their strings,
the one we do NOT see on the evening news. It uses, and when it
chooses to, discards them like the cogs that they are. We see the only
gears and think they are the whole machine.

To give you some idea of the enormous sophistication with which German
chemists have established their dominance in the world of drugs, both
legal and illegal, I intend quite shortly to share with you a little
story about an ingenious Chemical, Biological Warfare campaign they
waged in the years before WWII and during the early part of the war
itself. It is the story of Atabrine. It will be, I hope, illustrative
of their thought processes and of some of their methods of operation.
In subsequent posts I will expand on this theme by way of explaining
how the temporary setback inflicted on them by the Allied,
particularly the Soviet, armed forces set into motion a series of
events that established the modern cocaine trade, and to a lesser
extent the heroin trade, as we know it today. In a nutshell, they
made the best of a bad situation, the very best. In a very real sense
the military defeat of Germany was a blessing in disguise for the
Nazis themselves.

Every situation, ours today included, has historical roots, is part of
a numerous intersecting historical processes, and momentum. We didn't
get to be this way over night and we didn't get this way without
reason. Nothing stems from nothing. Everything has causes. Everything
has roots. If you don't know where our so-called "drug" problem came
from you lack clue one as to where it is going. You really should know
where it is going because it is dragging you along, whether you like
it or not, whether you know it or not, even if you never got high a
day in your life. Not all drugs get you high. Of those that do, no two
have exactly the same effects. All drugs though, be they legal or not,
psychotropic or not, be they whatever, have one thing in common. They
all have effects, some obvious, some not so obvious. Sometimes it is
the less obvious effects that ultimately prove to have the greatest
consequences. This is particularly true when drugs are used in
combination with each other. What is less well known is that they can
on occasion have additional and sometimes quite

[CTRL] Fw: More on posting reports on chemical plants

A natural first reaction to Tom Bliley's proposal to prevent citizens
from disclosing or disseminating information regarding chemical plant
safety is that chemical companies must have Bliley in their collective
pocket. Or perhaps he really believes in selling not only our
liberty, but our safety, down the river in the name of protecting us
from terrorism. Who knows? Anyway, it's very enlightening to see
who's buttering Bliley's bread

The following is a list of contributions Congressman Tom Bliley
received during the 1997-98 campaign season from PACs associated with
chemical companies. Also included in a separate list is a list of
contributions from petroleum-related PACs (since it seems likely that
Bliley's reasoning, if not the particulars of the bill he has in mind,
will protect petroleum refiners, processors, etc. from having to
disclose publicly their safety records). Another interesting tidbit
is that from 1995-98, Bliley received $100,400 from the Nuclear Energy
Institute. (To be fair, practically everyone on the Commerce
Committee got money from NEI, and John Dingell (D-MI), the ranking
majority member at the time, got more than Bliley. But most got far
less.) Let's hope that Bliley doesn't continue trying to "protect" us
by banning disclosure of nuclear plant safety information, too.

Falwell Calls 'Teletubby' Gay

By David Reed
Associated Press Writer
Tuesday, February 9, 1999; 9:11 p.m. EST

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- The Rev. Jerry Falwell is trying to out Tinky Winky,
suggesting that the purple, purse-toting character on television's popular
``Teletubbies'' children's show is gay.

A spokesman for Itsy Bitsy Entertainment Co., which licenses the
Teletubbies in the United States, said the purse is actually Tinky Winky's
magic bag.

``The fact that he carries a magic bag doesn't make him gay,'' Steve Rice
said. ``It's a children's show, folks. To think we would be putting sexual
innuendo in a children's show is kind of outlandish.''

The February edition of the National Liberty Journal, edited and published
by Falwell, contains an article warning parents that the rotund Teletubby
with the triangular antenna may be a gay role model.

To support its claim, the publication says Tinky Winky has the voice of a
boy but carries a purse. ``He is purple -- the gay-pride color; and his
antenna is shaped like a triangle -- the gay-pride symbol.''

Falwell contends the ``subtle depictions'' are intentional and issued a
statement Tuesday that said, ``As a Christian I feel that role modeling the
gay lifestyle is damaging to the moral lives of children.''

The British show aimed at toddlers began airing on U.S. public television
stations last spring. The Teletubbies are portrayed by actors in oversized,
brightly colored costumes. They all have television screens on their
tummies.

Rice said Falwell was attacking ``something sweet and innocent'' to further
his conservative political agenda.

Falwell's spokeswoman, Laura Swickard, said the founder of the now-defunct
Moral Majority agreed with everything that was in the NLJ article and would
not comment beyond his one-paragraph statement.

[CTRL] SnoOwl: It's true that abortion is legal but, hey///

1999-02-10 Thread Edward Britton

 -Caveat Lector-

SnoOwl:

Help me out here. Your argument is that, because there are poor, uneducated
and imprisoned youth, we should continue to have legalized abortion? To
extend this logic, is what you are saying that being poor should be
included among the Big Three exceptions to any potential ban on abortion?
PLEASE clarify! Sounds as if poverty warrants capital punishment.

Even though I am opposed to abortion except in the three most notable cases
of rape, incest and endangerment (plus, possibly, one more), and were I to
consider changing my stance, your argument would scare the be-jesus out of
me!!

Edward
Dear Mr. Moxley--
In the past month, the state legislature of NY State awarded themselves
raises in the
$20-40k range. The governor, George Pataki, gave his aides $50k raises.
Meanwhile
one in four children in NY State live in poverty. People and families cut
from the welfare
rolls, cannot find jobs or cannot find jobs that pay a living wage.

When that changes, and all children born are well-cared for--or at least
given a
reasonable chance at health, personal safety, and education--then I might
consider
changing my pro-choice stand.

When you argue anti-abortion, you are arguing for exponentially increasing
the number
of children who will be malnourished, poorly cared for by parents
struggling to merely
survive, and who, in many cases, will swell the ranks of the prison
population. (And
yes, Pataki wants to use the budget "surplus" to build new prisons, not to
rebuild NY
City's Dickensian schools). So, in essence, you are arguing for
prisonsand the new
slave class.

I consider myself a feminist. If a woman cannot support and care for a
child--or another
child, as the case may be--then she should have abortion as a choice open
to her.
No woman WANTS an abortion but sometimes abortion is the reasonable
choice. You
should keep in mind that at least 1/5 of the women who do have abortions
are Catholic.
That's one out of every five.

You know, you're right! Everybody on this list is blind to the truth! They
have to all wake up and smell what they are shoveling! Let's start a new
exchange of information. Right here, right now! I propose the following
changes to the list:

1) Instead of "Caveat Lector", the list's new motto will be "Oompa Loompa
Loompidy Dee"
2) Anyone who contributes to the more than 10 times a month, now receives
the honorary title of "Cap'n"
3) All references to belly-button lint be encrypted.
4) Any conspiracies involving former tennis star Billie Jean King should be
immediately discounted
5) Discussions of the career of Leif Garret must be kept to a minimum
6) E-mails can not be sent unless the sender is dressed as a chicken
7) References to airsick donkeys must be treated reverentially
8) If you have beaten an Avon lady to death with her own makeup kit...we
want you!!!
9) If you have had phone sex with you loved one, only to find out that the
person on the other end was former jazz great Azar Lawrence, don't come
crying to us!
10) Projectile vomiting onto girl scouts is grounds for immediate dismissal
from the list. Punishment will be no less severe even if you only vomit into
their cookies.

Thank you

suffered as a result is obvious. Some suffered more than others. The
rich suffered least. Few were surprised. That is the way of suffering,
war or peace. The Poles, the French, the Belgians, the Dutch, the Serbs,
et. al., and especially the Russians certainly suffered while they were
losing. Then the tide turned. This is the way of war. Tides turn.
Winning now is no guarantee against losing later. Somebody always loses
eventually. Civilians start losing on day one.

The Wehrmacht lost the war. The Luftwaffe lost the war. The civilians
lost the war. The Nazis, however, did not lose the war. The Nazis got
away. It is true that a tiny minority of individual Nazis lost the war.
Goebbels, Goering, Kaltenbrunner, and the man claiming to be Hess lost the
war. Perhaps it is even true that Hitler and Himmler lost the war as
well, though forensic evidence to the effect is notably scant.

The Nazi Party and the S.S., as organizations, got away intact. They got
away with the money, the Reichsbank treasury, $15,000,000,000 in 1945
money. This included the tooth gold. Guinness calls it the world's
largest unsolved robbery. Then there was all the stolen art, pieces of
which, to this day, occasionally surface. The Nazis did very well in the
war, from a business viewpoint. War is a business. It is fought for
material gain. The Nazis gained materially, and lived to spend it; thus,
they won the war. They did not win as much as they wanted to win, but who
does? They did win a great deal. What they lost was territory. What
they gained was treasure, new friends, and experience.

The treasure included a couple of U-boats full of bearer bonds, numbered
stock shares and patent certificates.

This represented:

***
" . . . the hard core of Nazi wealth in Latin America. In 1944 a great
treasure had been sent secretly across the Atlantic, the famous 'Bormann
treasure.' Toward the end of 1943, Bormann gave orders for Aktion
Fuerland -- "Operation Land of Fire" -- to begin. This operation
involved the transport from Germany to Argentina of several tons of gold,
some securities, shares, and works of art . . .

. . . Several U-boats arrived in Argentine waters after the capitulation
of Germany. They were the carriers of bundles of documents, industrial
patents, and securities. On July 10, 1945, the U-530 surfaced at the
mouth of the River Platte and entered the port of La Plata. The following
month, on August 17, the U-977 also arrived at La Plata. In accordance
with international conventions, both U-boats were interned by Argentina
and later handed over to the United States authorities."

Bar-Zohar, Hawthorn Books,
   1967, p 101
***

To the surprise of few, they were found to be empty of treasure.

***
"Two more U-boats, according to reliable sources, appeared off an
uninhabited stretch of the coast of Patagonia between July 23, and 29,
1945."

-- Ibid., p. 101

In occupied Germany one could neither vote with these shares nor could one
collect interest, dividends, nor royalties. When (West) Germany again
"took its place among the nations of the World" in 1955, the Bundestag
immediately changed all this. The holders of these once worthless scraps
of paper suddenly, once again, possessed incredibly wealth.

Consider the case of I.G. Farben:

David M. Nichol, of the Chicago Daily News Foreign Service, writing in
1947, observed:

***
"The trial of I.G. Farben's leading officials for war crimes is like
Topsy. It just 'growed.' It is still growing.

Some of the more starry-eyed in Nuernberg and throughout the world would
like to see it as a crusade against "monopoly" and "big business."
Others, including Farben's 24 crotchety and dyspeptic executives in the
dock, believe it is purely persecution. . . .

. . . No trial at all was planned in the beginning. . . .

. . . Investigating teams were interested in German finances, as such, in
the possible sources of reparations for Nazi damages to other countries,
and in tracing as much as possible of the loot that the Germans had
concealed outside their borders.

Not the least of their interests was Farben's huge headquarters building
in Frankfurt. Almost undamaged by bombs and fighting, it has served as
the administration center for American occupation forces ever since. . . .

. . . German Army headquarters had ordered Farben's records destroyed.
Many of them were. One official has compiled from memory a list of the
most important ones he burned. It runs 14 pages of single space typing. .
. .

. . . A handful of officials, were held for detailed but routine
questioning. . . . One of them in particular, 63-year-old Georg von
Schnitzler, one time head of Farben's entire sales organization . . .
began to 'talk.' From Farben's standpoint, the damage

Hermann Schmitz's nephew, Robert was employed by W.R. Grace Co. in the
early 1950s to help in its plans for diversification. W.R. Grace paid
alleged cocaine dealer John Delorean $25,000 a month as a consultant.
Delorean advised W.R. to invest in a luxury RV project. Grace is
reported to have dropped a $1,000,000 on the project. The RV never

appear to be a coincidence that Mr. McCloy should have turned up in the
War Department in 1941 in a position in which he could speak with
authority on such matters as handling the destruction of that mainstay of
Germany's war potential -- I.G. Farben."

Consider the Flicks:

***
"Friedrich Flick, the Howard Hughes of West Germany's mighty postwar
industrialists, was a man of few public words. But when he spoke people
remembered.

Defending his financial support of the Nazi party at the Nuremberg
war-crime trials, Mr. Flick uttered one of the most quoted statements of
the day: 'I was of the opinion necessarily, that political insurance would
not do me any harm.' And hardly any of the men who worked for him could
ever forget Mr. Flick's guiding business motto: 'Either change the numbers
or the faces.'

The one paying the closest attention to the words of 'the old gentleman'
was his son, Friedrich Flick, who has been adhering to every letter of
those precepts since taking over this country's largest family-owned
concern after his father died in 1972. Friedrich Karl dared to make one
change -- replacing the picture of Bismarck that had hung in his father's
office with a portrait of Dad himself -- but otherwise it has been pretty
much like father, like son. . . .

. . . The son's most audacious move was to sell a 29 percent stake in
Daimler-Benz AG, the maker of Mercedes cars, to Deutsche Bank in 1975 for
$789.77 million, which amounted to a huge capital gain of $714.55 million
on what his father had paid for 40 percent of Daimler stock in the early
1950s.

Under West German law, the profit from the Daimler transaction would have
normally been taxed at a rate of 56 percent unless Flick reinvested the
money before the end of 1978 in projects judged by the government to be
'especially beneficial to the national economy.' Mr. Flick went on a
rapid spending spree, and although more than half the money flowed into
the U.S., including some $400 million for a 29 percent stake in W.R. Grace
Co. of New York, the West German Economics Ministry granted tax-exempt
status to all but a fraction of the new investments."

-- The Wall Street Journal,
 9/21/83

Then there are the Thyssens.

***
". . . the Thyssen family learned the facts of corporate life at an early
age. Count Fredrico Zichy-Thyssen acquired his knowledge from grandfather
Fritz Thyssen; his cousin Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza acquired
similar corporate wisdom from his father, old Fritz's brother, Heinrich
Thyssen. The latter became Baron Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza and took up
residence in Lugano, Switzerland, gaining Swiss citizenship. As Count
Zichy represents the largest shareholder group in Thyssen A.G. From his
home in Buenos Aires, the young baron directs his interest from his Villa
Favorita in Lugano.

One such holding in the United States is Indian Head Inc., with American
corporate headquarters at 1200 Avenue of the Americas, New York City.
Thyssen Inc. has its U.S. offices farther down this avenue at number 1114,
in the W.R. Grace Co. building. Indian Head is a wide-ranging
manufacturing conglomerate, with 42 plants in the United States and 10,400
employees. It enjoys annual net sales of close to $604 million. For an
industrial corporation of such size it has a remarkably low profile. It
distributes no annual report -- 'We are a privately held corporation.'
Like Thyssen Inc. in the United States it has no background ownership file
with the SEC because it has never had to go public. When Thyssen bought
Budd Manufacturing for $275 million, it was in cash, and there was no
requirement for corporate disclosures to the Securities and Exchange
Commission.

Still, good will is cherished, and German industrials and bankers continue
to strive to project a friendly German image in the United States. One
noteworthy announcement, made from Washington, D.C., in March 1979 was
that 57 priceless Old Masters paintings from the collection of Baron
Thyssen-Bornemisza would be taken on a tour of the United States in 1979

BEDROOM EYES. Americans are lousy in the sack. Or a lot of them are, anyway.
Nearly 1/3 of men and 43% of women suffer from some sort of sexual dysfunc-

The JAMA study, billed as the most significant survey of American sexual
behavior since the landmark Kinsey report in 1948, details a smorgasbord of
hang-ups and physical problems: lack of desire, difficult arousal, premature
orgasms (or no orgasm at all), pain during sex, fear of failure, and sex
without pleasure. So that's why Viagra's sales are skyrocketing. Fukitall -

[CTRL] Justinian Theodora Stars Bill Hillary (fwd)

1999-02-10 Thread Brian Redman

 -Caveat Lector-

"JUSTINIAN THEODORA" STARS BILL HILLARY
===

(CNNS, 02/10/99) -- In these dark days, with Bill Hillary's
power about to become UNTOUCHABLE, a plan for light entertainment
is contemplated, as a way to take our minds off inevitable
decline.

The play would be called "Justinian Theodora." The cast of
characters:

JUSTINIAN (played by Bill Clinton): Justinian is emperor of
Byzantium, 518 A.D. through 565 A.D. From the book, "The Secret
History," by Procopius, we ascertain the character of Justinian:

For without the slightest hesitation he used to embark on
the inexcusable murdering of his fellow-men [e.g. the Sudan
Aspirin factory] and the plundering of other people's
property [e.g. asset forfeiture]; and it did not matter to
him how many thousands lost their lives, although they had
  given him no provocation whatever.

Well, then, this emperor [Justinian, played by Bill
Clinton] was dissembling, crafty, hypocritical, secretive
by temperament, two-faced; a clever fellow with marvellous
ability to conceal his real opinion, and able to shed
tears, not from any joy or sorrow, but employing them
artfully when required in accordance with the immediate
  need, lying all the time...

[Procopius further opines that], when a man cares nothing
for the infamy of his actions, and does not hesitate to be
known to all and sundry as a revolting character, no path
of lawlessness is closed to him, but armed with the
shamelessness visible at every moment in his face, he
advances cheerfully and without any misgivings to the most
  loathsome deeds.

THEODORA (played by Hillary Clinton): Theodora is wife of
Justinian. She is the real power in Byzantium. She rules as
emperess ca. 518 A.D. until her death ca. 547/548 A.D. From the
historian Procopius, we see some of the character of Theodora:

Now we must sketch the outlines of what she and her husband
did in unison, for neither did anything apart from the
other to the end of their joint lives. For a long time it
was universally believed that they were exact opposites...
but later it was recognized that this false impression had
been deliberately fostered to make sure that their subjects
did not put their own differences aside and rebel against
them, but were all divided in their feelings about them
[i.e. Justinian Theodora, played by Bill Hillary.]

BYZANTIUM (played by Washington, DC): According to Procopius
(who Gibbon, in his book, "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire,"
although he "criticizes the =tone= of 'The Secret History,' had
no hesitation in reproducing its statements as objectively
true..." [1]), the character of Byzantium is summarized as
follows:

...like any other disease the infection that began in the
capital rapidly spread all over the Roman Empire.

[Byzantium] gathered into [its] own hands the private
property of all the Romans in every land, either accusing
them of some crime they had never committed, or coaxing
them into the belief that they had made a free gift.

THE SENATE (played by the U.S. Senate): Says Procopius:

Sad to say, not even one member of the Senate, seeing the
State straddling itself with this disgrace, saw fit to
  protest...

The Perils of Losing
Justice Opens Case Against Starr
The Justice Department has opened a formal inquiry to determine whether
Kenneth Starr's prosecutors misled Attorney General Janet Reno about possible
conflicts of interest, the NEW YORK TIMES reports in Wednesday editions.
"The inquiry will focus on whether the prosecutors were truthful when they
asserted that there had been no contacts between Starr's office and Paula
Jones' legal team in the weeks leading up to Starr's decision to ask Reno to
expand his inquiry beyond the Whitewater matter," the paper's David Johnston
and Don Van Natta report.

"A series of newly disclosed notes taken at the initial meetings on Jan.15 and
Jan. 16, 1998, between Starr's prosecutors and Justice Department officials
shows that the prosecutors flatly asserted that there were no contacts with
the Jones team."

But Johnston and Van Natta report that documentation has been discovered that
indicates there were conversations between a prosecutor in Starr's office and
a lawyer working behind the scenes with the Jones legal team.

The notes have become crucial evidence in the Justice Department inquiry,
reports the TIMES.

Justice also intents to investigate whether Starr "abused his authority to
convene grand juries, or improperly pressed witnesses, like Ms. Lewinsky, and
disclosed secret grand jury information to the news media."

RENO WANTED TO PUNISH STARR LAST SPRING
At one point last spring, Attorney General Janet Reno asked her senior aides
to research whether she had the authority to discipline Starr in some way, one
source tells the paper.

Reno has been troubled by what she believes are possible violations of Justice
Department guidelines. Also, Starr's prosecutors and Justice Department
officials have feuded privately, according to the report.

The Drudge Report, Feb. 9, 1999

Impeached POTUS
Clinton's Calls to Monica Taped?
Lott Wants Starr to Investigate
WASHINGTON - In an 11th-hour surprise, Senate GOP leader Trent Lott has
drafted a letter asking Sexgate prober Kenneth Starr to check if there's a
White House taping system that picked up Sexgate chats, sources say.
"Based on press reports about an alleged White House taping system, it has
been proposed to Lott that the proper authorities be engaged in finding the
truth," Lott spokesman John Czwartacki told The Post last night.

Czwartacki declined to give details, but sources said as of last night, Lott
hadn't yet sent the letter.

The latest twist comes as the Senate is racing toward an impeachment vote on
President Clinton by Friday, with senators dead-set against any delay - and so
far well short of the 67 votes needed to convict him.

One source insisted, "this isn't a fishing expedition," and said there might
be specific names for Starr to contact.

"There's no certainty that [tapes] exist," Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) said
on Fox News last night, adding it would be "good news for everyone" if tapes
do exist because they'd reveal the truth.

Asked if there are any Sexgate-linked tapes of President Clinton's phone
calls, White House spokesman Jim Kennedy last night said: "Not that the
lawyers are aware of."

A central issue in Clinton's impeachment trial has been whether, in phone
conversations, he explicitly urged Monica Lewinsky to lie (both of them deny
it) and what he told his pal Vernon Jordan about her.

Any hint of a White House taping system would inevitably spark memories of
Watergate, when Richard Nixon's tapes of conversations in the Oval Office
destroyed him.

But Nixon's system was a voice-activated bug in the room - at issue here is
whether the Clinton White House tapes phone calls.

When Fox News reported rumors of a White House taping system last week,
Clinton spokesman Joe Lockhart said "there's no system that I'm aware of."

Lockhart added that "we certainly have the ability to tape some phone calls.
We do this when we do a phone interview where we provide [reporters] with a
transcript" but, by contrast, he said, phone calls with foreign leaders aren't
routinely taped.

The White House telephone system is run by a military agency known as the
White House Communications Agency, which is under the Pentagon.

Kennedy, the White House spokesman, was unable to say last night whether the
taping used for Clinton phone interviews is always in place or must be
specially set up.

In summations yesterday, Rep. Henry Hyde urged senators to convict Clinton of
impeachment charges and shun the most appealing alternative - a censure vote
that leaves him in office - as a coward's way out.

In an unexpected attack, Hyde called censure "a way of avoiding the harsh
constitutional option - and it's the only one you have - of up or down on
impeachment."

Senators begin deliberations today on a verdict. Unless 67 senators vote
otherwise, that debate will be behind

[CTRL] Fwd: 02.09.99 RMNews Alerted Its Readers About Tapes in the White House About...

1999-02-10 Thread Kris Millegan

Does The White House Tape Everything?

02.09.99 RMNews-- In an article published close to a year ago, and posted this
entire time on a web page, Rumor Mill News alerted its readers and the
American public about the White House Communications Agency.

In the article we posed the question, "How many people can blackmail a
President?" We pointed out that the Navy runs the White House Communications
Agency (WHCA, pronounced "wakka"). We pointed out that they tape almost
everything. We also stated that Navy Intelligence permeates every aspect of
the Navy, and if the Navy was recording these tapes, then Navy Intelligence
has copies of them.

The focus of the article was blackmail, which would lead to treason, which
would lead to impeachment. If impeachment was not successful, then the
alternative is assassination. The article was titled:

Blackmail, Treason, Impeachment, Assassination

The article also posed questions about photos and tapes that were made in
Arkansas while Clinton was Governor. What were in those tapes and photos and
who controls them? And is the President being blackmailed using these tapes?

If people like Charlie Trie and John Huang controlled the tapes, that would
mean that Communist China had items with which they could blackmail and
control the President of the United States of America. Are these tapes the
real reason behind the transfer of secret technology to Communist China?

The Communist Chinese could use these videos and photos to blackmail Bill
Clinton and force him to commit treason. If treason was committed, then the
President could be impeached, if impeachment was not successful, then there
was one other alternative...

Many Congress people have quoted Benjamin Franklin in the past few months.
Regarding impeachment, Franklin said, "Impeachment is the alternative to
assassination."

The following cryptic message appeared on my fax machine a few days ago.

Fax message from Source
02.03.99
"Ben Franklin said that 'impeachment is the alternative to assassination'

"What if a Senate is too intimidated to convict and remove?"

Was my Source implying that if impeachment did not work that they would have
no alternative except one to remove the President?

RMNews Sources have implied that the Senate trial that is currently going on
is just a cover for the real trial. Several months ago RMNews alerted its
readers to a secret military court that had summoned President Clinton to a
secret meeting at Ft. McNair.

It was speculated that the secret military court was set up to try the
President on charges of treason. Since the treason charges could not be
brought into the light of day, without endangering national security secrets,
a sham Senate Impeachment Trial would be conducted to remove the President.

It appears as if the White House spin machine and the White House secret
police have been successful in intimidating the Senate. Therefore, other
methods must now be employed.

The first method will be to force the White House to admit that there are
secret tapes of conversations which the White House heretofore has refused to
turn over to the Office of Independent Council under a subpoena.

While it is unlikely that these tapes will not change the public's opinion to
have him removed, it could very well change the Democratic Senators position.
Why is this? Because the Democratic Senators will be forced to face the
possibility that more of the President's scandals will surface. Since the
Senators don't know what could possibly surface, do they cast their own lot in
with the President by voting not to remove? If they do this and other
information arises which implicates the President in treason, then will the
Senators that voted against removing the President be tainted by the suspicion
of Treason?

This alone, should be enough to get the attention of the Democratic Senators!
They must obtain the tapes that the White House Communications Agency has, if
only to protect their own behinds.

It has been brought to the attention of RMNews that WHCA tapes all calls the
President makes to foreign leaders. It takes 15 minutes to set up the
equipment to tape these calls. It is possible that WHCA has caught
conversations that were being taped in the 15 minutes it took to fully set up
the equipment. Or at least, this is what WHCA will claim when they produce
tapes of Clinton's calls. To claim anything else could put them in jeapardy.

If the President or one of his aides, told WHCA to set up its equipment while
the President was talking to Monica or to someone else, then it is possible
that WHCA has recorded information that could lead to the resignation or
removal of the President. The information on these tapes will probably not
have anything to do with sex, it will probably show that thePresident is being
blackmailed and because of the blackmail he has committed treason!

One other piece of information that RMNews readers should consider right now
is that numerous Sources to

WHAT IF THERE IS ANOTHER MONICA?
Pentagon - Virginia
USAF officials are worried that two more Monica Lewinsky events
could empty U.S. missile stocks. However, the USAF made it
official - no new cruise missiles will be bought to replace the
90 ALCM AGM-86B missiles fired at Iraq.

Instead, the USAF plans to spend $53 million converting 92 of
the final inventory of 130 nuclear tipped AGM-86B missiles into
conventional weapons. The extra 92 missiles will leave the USAF
with about 200 conventional cruise missiles or enough for two
more "Desert Fox" like attacks.

JUST IN TIME FOR A GORE SCANDAL
Pentagon - Virginia
The replacement for the USAF AGM-86B is currently being funded.
87 stealthy "JASSM" missiles are scheduled for USAF delivery in
2001 enough for one Monica scale event.

Kuwait City - Kuwait
The USAF has moved synthetic aperture radar (SAR) equipped UAVs
(unmanned aerial vehicles) to the middle east. The SAR equipped

The USAF goal is to track Iraqi mobile air defenses using the

are reported to be sensitive enough to determine the difference

Under the restrictions, Russia has 16 GEO launch permits through

Loral has a "GO" from the State Dept. to launch more satellites
for GLOBALSTAR on Russian Proton rockets. The Globalstar system

this spring.

Loral lost Globalstar 12 satellites in July 1998 on a failed

put replacement Globalstar satellites into orbit because of the

Subject: The Stargate Conspiracy

"The Stargate Conspiracy" exposes the most insidious and dangerous plan of
our times. Centred on the search for lost secrets of the pyramid builders,
this extraordinary true story reveals the links between US scientific
intelligence agencies, Mars and ancient Egypt. For almost 50 years, like
Frankenstein's monster, this conspiracy has been put together from cultish
- but astonishingly powerful - belief systems, culminating in the emergence
of a new fundamentalism that is gathering strength by feeding on Millennium
fever.

Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince reveal the secret agenda that unites
apparently independent authors and researchers - including top names with
millions of readers worldwide - and which is targeted to all of us. The
Stargate Conspiracy reveals that even the genuine musteries of the gods
themselves have been hijacked by powerful cabals - whic include top
industrialists, politicians, scientists and intelligence agencies such as
MI5 and the CIA - in order to fulfill their secret agenda. At the heart of
this conspiracy is the belife that the ancient Egyptian gods we - and are -
extra terrestrial beings, that certain key people are in contact with them,
and that they are about to return through the 'stargate' between our world
and theirs.

Are we prepared for the imminent return of the gods? And will we be
expected unquestioningly to accept the conspirators as our spokesmen? Or is
this an exercise in mass manipulation designed to make us support the
conspirators? As they calculatedly whip up Millennium fever, triumphantly
persuading us that they alone know how to talk to the gods, this book
serves as a serious warning to mankind.

[CTRL] Bill Clinton Conjures (With) Justinian (fwd)

1999-02-10 Thread Brian Redman

 -Caveat Lector-

BILL CLINTON CONJURES (WITH) JUSTINIAN
==

(CNNS, 02/10/99) -- The Latin *coniuratio* (conspiracy, plot)
yields to the French *conjuration* (conspiracy, exorcism) and
bifurcates into the English pair: conspiracy/conjure.

Bill Clinton has conjured up the Byzantine emperor Justinian. He
seeks Justinian's advice.Together they conspire (breathe
together). As Hillary Clinton conjures Eleanor Roosevelt, Bill
Clinton conjures Justinian.

Bill Clinton, like Tiberius Caesar, finds he cannot sleep. In
the dark hours of night, like Lincoln before him, he summons
forth the departed -- someone to talk with. Let us listen to the
talk between Bill Clinton and Justinian:

JUSTINIAN: Who DARES summon the Immortal!?

CLINTON: It is I, Bill Clinton, of Arkansas.

JUSTINIAN: Puny man, knowest not thou to whomst thou speakest!?

CLINTON: No. Not exactly.

JUSTINIAN: It is =I=, the Illustrious; Justinian, Supreme Ruler
of All Kingdoms, Terror of East and West. Kneel thou dog! Else
thou shalt be thrown into the dungeons of Theodora!

CLINTON: But I am Clinton, also a King. Many women kneel before
me.

JUSTINIAN: Comest thou under a flag of truce!?

CLINTON: Yes. I come to parley.

JUSTINIAN: Hast thou GOLD to offer!?

CLINTON: No. I have, though, these Federal Reserve notes.
[Places paper money on table.]

JUSTINIAN: FOOL!!! What good be these silly parchments! They
shall be burned, dog, together with thyself!

CLINTON: I can offer much blood. Many are the innocents I have
ordered killed.

JUSTINIAN: (Considers.) Very well. Much blood is the
provenance of kings.

CLINTON: I seek advice, Oh Illustrious One. How best must I rule?

JUSTINIAN: Thou begs for wisdom?

CLINTON: Yes, Oh Illustrious One.

JUSTINIAN: Then listen well.
When I ascended to the throne, it took only a very little while
for me to bring everything into confusion. Things hitherto
forbidden by law were one by one brought into public life, while
established customs were swept away. I quickly sought to invest
myself with new forms of majesty by changing things to new forms.
I did so not because justice required the upheaval, but only so
everything might have a new look and be associated with my NAME.
  See thou not my cunning?

CLINTON: Yes. The new forms all bore your name.

JUSTINIAN: Of the forcible seizure of property and the murder of
my subjects I was never sated. The Senators learned soon to fear
the power of my arm.
But the peasants, the backward rural folk, held to the old
beliefs. So I sent out at once an army of officials. These
officials forced everyone they met to renounce his ancestral
beliefs. Yet in the eyes of country people such a suggestion was
blasphemy; so they resolved one and all to stand their ground
against the men who made this demand.

CLINTON: Oh I can identify with that! These rural folks are
dead-set against me! But I just had my buddies at Shell Oil do a
never-ending commercial, about evil rednecks in old pick-up
trucks. Ha, ha, ha! I made it like they were all predators,
stalking defenseless women!! Ha-ha!

JUSTINIAN: Silence, fool! Or you hear no more.

CLINTON: Yes, Oh Illustrious One.

JUSTINIAN: A religious cult, the Montanists, defied me. They
were established in Phrygia. They (it is said) shut themselves
up in their own churches and at once set these buildings on fire.

CLINTON: Oh, wow! I mean, WOW! That is just like what happened
with me! Down in Waco, Texas, the Branch Davidians (it is said)
set their own church on fire.

JUSTINIAN: Thou talkest much.
The rural folk continued to defy me. The peasants, at a mass
meeting, resolved as one man to take up arms against the Emperor.
They joined battle with the soldiers and held out for some time.
But in the end, they lost the fight and were cut to pieces.
At last, to avoid being caught, every man was glad to exchange
his homeland for another country, as if his own had fallen into
enemy hands.

CLINTON: Not here, where I am King! Here we've got a big "Dump
Here" sign, given us like a Trojan Horse, by the French, a
cunning strategy they

JUSTINIAN: "French"? I know not the name.

CLINTON: Uh, Gaul, in your time.
Yeah, they gave us this "gift", a Trojan Horse it was. They
called it the Statue of Liberty! It was like a big neon sign to
the world: "Dump Excess Here." But our people aren't accepted
by them, those other nations, if they want to get out of this
country. So we just build lots of dungeons (you'd call them) and
that's where =we= dump =our= excess.
So it's not like in your time. No one now can flee.

JUSTINIAN: Thou art a prattler and a chatterer. Thou art a
child in the sinister ways of power. Depart, foolish one. Thou
canst nay be the power. I look for the true power in thy kingdom.

CLINTON: Oh, you mean Hillary? Will you talk

PAPER: CLINTON SET TO DECLARE WAR ON GOP!

The redhotfirehot NEW YORK TIMES is back in the lead again on Thursday with
a high impact story about to be slugged exclusive and sent off to the
printing press: CLINTON SAID TO DECLARE WAR ON HOUSE REPUBLICANS OVER
IMPEACHMENT!

According to publishing sources who have seen the Page One, reporters James
Bennet and Richard Berke take dictation from their White House sources and
learn that President Clinton is "so furious" at House Republicans over his
impeachment, he has personally vowed to mount an "all-out offensive to knock
off many of his foes and win back the House" for Democrats in 2000!

Clinton now viewed winning back the House as almost as important an
affirmation of his legacy as electing Vice President Al Gore, says the
report.

One Clinton aide tells the TIMES: "It will be a personal crusade. The man
knows he's done wrong. But he also knows they should not have taken it to
the extreme they have. He says: 'It's the unfairness of this whole
process. These right-wingers who tried to undo the election.'"

The TIMES, which is creating maxi-NEXIS action during the impeachment
finale, has left the WASHINGTON POST in the dust with a string of stories
that have captured media attention.

A WASHINGTON POST/NEW YORK TIMES feud has been developing behind-the-scenes
in recent months over which paper can grab the best impeachment story.

One NEW YORK TIMES staffer tells the DRUDGE REPORT that the POST has
suffered because it has been too anti-Clinton in its coverage!

"Almost from the very begging of this thing, the POST has been perceived as
too anti-Clinton," whispers a NEW YORK TIMES insider. "They burned a lot of
their sources, who now have been coming to us."

The POST will just have to sit back and watch once again on Thursday when
the TIMES jumps ahead of the pack with its CLINTON WAR story.

GEFFEN GOES AFTER ROGAN

Hollywood mogul David Geffen has his eyes on Rep. James Rogan [R-CA] -- and
it's not to star in a DREAMWORKS movie.

"After these years of Ken Starr, people are more energized than I've seen
them since the '60s and '70s," Geffen tells the TIMES.

"Many of us are looking forward to spending time and money and effort to
defeating James Rogan."

NO HEROS, SAY GERMOND AND WITCOVER

"Watergate was serious business. But the Monica Lewinsky episode has been
both too shabby and too trivial to produce any political winners, let alone
heroes."

Jack Germond and Jules Witcover, circa 1999.

The seasoned ones at the BALTIMORE SUN issue a column on Thursday that
describes the Monica Lewinsky impeachment as a "penny-ante crisis" that was
a "stinking mess."

Jules, more sour than usual, writes long about his Watergate days, when
there "were winners all over the spectrum."

Now 25 years later, during Lewinsky, everyone is a loser.

"Great crises in American history usually produce memorable figures. But
this has been a penny-ante crisis, caused by the self-indulgence of the
president and seized upon by moralists with their own political agendas.
Rather than memorable figures, it has produced laughingstocks for late-night
television shows."

But not all old timers have a completely cynical view of the new impeachment
generation. David S. Broder and Dan Balz writing in Thursday's WASHINGTON
POST quote one societal expert: "I think this is another Vietnam and
Watergate that will degrade and divide our politics for years to come."

Broder/Balz pick the brian of Don Eberly, director of the Civil Society
Project in Harrisburg: "The scandal will further hollow out our
institutions. Trust is eroding. Goodwill is gone. I think there is a thick
cloud of moral corruption overhanging all our political institutions."

SAFIRE ON CLINTON ACQUITTAL: 'THE SYSTEM WORKS'

"The System worked. What a great country."

That is what NEW YORK TIMES columnist Bill safire is set to write in a
column being prepared for Thursday newspapers.

According to publishing sources, the NYT star is set to declare that the
constitutional form of government worked like a charm in the
Lewinsky/Clinton drama.

Just hours before a verdict is rendered, Safire writes that "we trusted the
Senate and it went by the constitutional book."

"Removal of a president in the absence of public outrage would be a
Draconian mistake," writes Safire. "Impeachment was an ineradicable mark on
his record; the Senate trial was public purgatory. That's a powerful warning
to future presidents contemplating obstruction."

Safire concludes: "Starr's non-Monica reports may be mired in molasses, but
likely to come are memoirs of disillusioned aides, toots from
whistle-blowers and

The Feb. 7 Undercurrents show had a segment on mind control.
Nick Begich demonstrates the neurophone. Soviet mind control expert

destabilize
the situation at Waco to end the standoff. He told them it would take
him
ten days to set up his equipment, but after 3 days the FBI decided to
destabilize the situation themselves so he never got to try it out. I

I have that book and it's very good, well written with technical drawings
