[CTRL] Pantless Jail Guard Had Viagra in Car
-Caveat Lector- http://www.apbnews.com:80/newscenter/breakingnews/1999/12/28/viagra1228_01.html Police: Pantless Jail Guard Had Viagra in Car Man Faces DUI Charge After Traffic Stop Dec. 28, 1999 By Richard Zitrin FORD CITY, Pa. (APBnews.com) -- A part-time county jail guard who got caught in his car with a Viagra pill and his pants down was allegedly driving drunk, authorities said today. The guard, Matthew Serene, told APBnews.com that too much is being made about the incident, which he blamed on recurring problems with a Ford City police officer. Serene, 25, was charged Monday with driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Armstrong County Jail Warden William Laughner. Serene is accused of having a blood-alcohol content of .105 -- just above the state's legal limit of .10 for drunken driving -- when he was pulled over Aug. 7, police Chief Jan Lysakowski said. Police: drugs in system Lysakowski said Serene was not charged until Monday because police were awaiting the result of a blood test. The test, performed at the state police crime laboratory in Greensburg, showed Serene allegedly had marijuana and cocaine in his system that day, Laughner said. When Serene was stopped for DUI four months ago, he was driving in his boxer shorts and had a Viagra pill -- medication used to treat impotence -- in the vehicle. Serene said he was in his underwear because he had spilled a drink on his pants and had taken them off. He also said he was driving his father's car, and that his father, David, has a prescription for Viagra. "As far as I know, that's not really a crime," Serene told APBnews.com. "And to me, boxers are a pair of shorts. Come on, now." Serene, who said his attorney, Jack Heim, advised him not to comment on the case, said he and others in the community have had problems with the officer who arrested him, Jason Hufhand. The officer could not be reached for comment. Heim also refused to comment. 'A clean-cut kid' Warden Laughner called Serene "a clean-cut kid" and said the part-time jail guard, who has worked for the county for about six weeks, is not suspended, but that he has been taken off the work schedule at the jail until his case is resolved. "He's innocent until proven guilty," Laughner said. [CTRL] Chicago Tells Cops: No Guns in the Box
-Caveat Lector- http://www.apbnews.com:80/cjprofessionals/behindthebadge/1999/12/21/chicagoguns1221_01.html Chicago Tells Cops: No Guns in the Box Order Follows Shootout During Interrogation Dec. 21, 1999 By Janet Prasad CHICAGO (APBnews.com) -- Something really scary happened in the Wentworth Area Police Station on Halloween weekend -- and it has led Chicago police to bar cops from carrying guns in some areas in their own stationhouses. On Oct. 30, Reginald Cole, 38, was taken to the South Side police station from an Illinois prison where he was serving a 10-year sentence for armed robbery because investigators wanted to question him about a murder, authorities said. Cole asked the detective if they could talk someplace he could not be overheard, and the officer moved him out of an interrogation room into a small office. That's when Cole grabbed a 7-inch paper spike off a desk and lunged at the detective, then grabbed the officer's gun and fired. The prisoner missed his target, and he turned the gun on himself and fired. At the shot, other officers ran into the room and fired at Cole. Simultaneously, authorities said, Cole fired the officer's gun into his own mouth. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Cole's death a suicide. Dec. 3, the department set a new policy -- no guns in interrogation rooms. 'Like putting on a pair of shoes' "It wasn't that there was a policy to wear them, just that there wasn't a policy not to wear them. People just wore them if they felt like it," said a Wentworth detective who asked to remain anonymous. "Some people just had it on because they've been wearing it for so many years ... it's like putting on a pair of shoes." Officers in suburban departments applauded Chicago's decision, saying the safest way to interview a suspect is without a weapon. Sgt. Mike McNamara, a detective in south suburban Park Forest, said his department has had a long-standing policy keeping guns out of interrogations. A bank of lock boxes on the opposite end of the hall from the interview room ensures weapons are secure. Surprised that Chicago did not have the no-weapons policy before, McNamara said he has yet to see a suburban department that does not have a policy regarding weapons in processing areas. "I can understand the thinking that said you'd want to have your gun because these are dangerous people and they might try to attack you. But that's exactly why you wouldn't want to have it with you," McNamara said. New holsters guard against gun grabs A lot of detectives have older holsters that are not equipped with new weapon retention hardware. One flip of a thumb and the suspect could have the gun in his hand before a distracted investigator has time to react. "I've watched videos where the prisoners were practicing disarming officers in a jail yard, spinning the officer around and taking his gun," McNamara said. "You don't want to get lulled into a false sense of security." The Chicago detective agreed. "I think that has to do with complacency. You have to kind of relax when you talk to these people. Sometimes you have got to be friendly to them, sometimes we get complacent," he said. "But that's not saying that that's what happened in this case, where this officer got into trouble." Bob Wallace, a spokesman for the National Association of Police Chiefs and a former police lieutenant in New York state, believes Chicago's decision was a good one. Interviewing a suspect without guns or other weapons not only protects the officer from potential bodily harm, but also eliminates a

[CTRL] FW: Tourists and Terrorists: Giuliani 2000
-Caveat Lector- forwarded... Dave Hartley http://www.Asheville-Computer.com/dave -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: undisclosed-recipients:; undisclosed-recipients:; Date: Monday, December 27, 1999 8:40 AM Subject: Tourists and Terrorists: Giuliani 2000 Tourists and Terrorists: Giuliani 2000 By Robert Lederman According to Mayor Rudolph Giuliani Times Square on New Years Eve is the safest place to be in all of New York City with midtown Manhattan locked down like a giant maximum security Federal penitentiary. Aptly named project Archangel, Mayor Darksides ominous security plans include having his imperial troops, eight thousand uniformed cops, stand guard duty in Times Square backed up by hundreds of FBI agents, private security guards and operatives from other Federal agencies. The remainder of the Citys 40,000 uniformed police officers will take time out from their Christmas assignment of rounding up and arresting homeless families to diligently search the subway tunnels and streets of New York City for potential terrorists and Giuliani critics. Roofs in Times Square will be manned by crack teams of police snipers with night vision scopes mounted on their high-powered rifles. Every parked car in a mile long three block wide strip of midtown will be towed to prevent the deployment of car bombs. The party-going public will be herded cattle-like through an endless maze of police barricades and metal detectors and treated to body searches in below zero temperatures. Many attendees are expected to be arrested on the way to the event simply for possessing alcohol, a substance zero-tolerance Giuliani believes often leads to terroristic anti-social acts such as dancing, solicitation of prostitutes and public urination. Manhole covers will be welded shut. Mailboxes will be sealed. Every garbage can in midtown will be removed. Hundreds of undercover police officers will be circulating through the partying crowd disguised as tourists. As they do in Washington Square Park with marijuana sales officers will run sting operations, in this case offering to sell high school kids everything they need to make their own New Years bomb and then busting them as terrorists. For the past few weeks the NYPD has been bribing hundreds of informants in order to get them to report threatening comments theyve overheard from drunks bragging in neighborhood bars or the thinly-veiled threats of community activists. Are the enormous expenses of this event and its unprecedented and ultimately futile security precautions worth the economic and social cost to the taxpayers of New York City? This is not a Presidential inauguration, the signing of an international peace treaty or anything of genuine public value that justifies either the cost or the risks involved. This once stirring celebration of diversity and democracy has been reduced to nothing more than a slick ad for Disney, the Times Square Business Improvement District and the Giuliani for U.S. Senate campaign. Watching the ball drop on New Years Eve was once an authentic celebration by actual New Yorkers who traveled by subway from ethnic neighborhoods in all five boroughs. They came to share a collective experience in the center of a real city. Giulianis ersatz party is closer to Hitlers 1937 Olympics celebration than the New Years event which became a symbolic celebration of freedom renowned throughout the world. Giuliani isnt celebrating a New Year so much as his cleansing of New Yorkers and authentic New York culture from Times Square. The hotdog stands, shoeshine parlors, peep shows, all-night movie theaters, hookers, hustlers and gritty texture of a flesh and blood city have been replaced by a sterilized Mickey Mouse mall every square inch of which has been tagged with mind-boggling fluorescent graffiti. This corporate freakshow on steroids is prowled by an army of black uniformed cops whose sole mission is to protect tourists from low income New Yorkers and to uphold the real estate values of Giulianis top contributors. Aside from terrorists, virtually all of the two million participants expected to be in Times Square this New Years Eve will be tourists. No sane New Yorker would venture anywhere near midtown as Giuliani pulls the lever on his Police State 2000. The idea that Adolf Giulianis army of poorly trained and underpaid cops, who are known to despise Furhrer Giuliani, can somehow prevent a genuine attack by determined terrorists is ludicrous. Not even the real Hitler with his real Gestapo was able to prevent acts by determined terrorists. If actual terrorists wanted to make a big splash in Times Square they could have securely planted their bombs or gas canisters months ago. Then whats the point of Project Archangel, Lucifer-Giulianis aptly named contingency plan to thwart a terrorist attack? Like the event itself the security arrangements are nothing more than an advertisement for Emperor

[CTRL] Fwd: Flu
Flu Cases Flood Emergency Rooms By MICHELLE RUSHLO .c The Associated Press GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Linda Lindquist thought things might slow down at Thunderbird Samaritan Medical Center after the Christmas weekend. But the flood of sniffly, feverish patients that started flowing into her emergency room last week has just kept coming and coming. The hospital turned to extra staff and volunteers to help comfort patients. And for several days in a row, it's diverted ambulances until it could get the waiting room under control. ``It's at disastrous levels with the number of people we're seeing,'' Lindquist said. ``Not just in terms of us, everybody is seeing it. We're overwhelmed.'' Hospitals throughout the Phoenix area are being overrun by patients complaining of coughs, fevers and sore throats. Meanwhile, emergency rooms in Southern California and Wisconsin also report being flooded with flu patients. Indeed, the flu season nationwide has picked up noticeably in the last couple of weeks, said Dr. Carolyn Buxton Bridges of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It's too early to say for sure, but the flu season looks like it may peak in January this year - a month earlier than 1998, she said. Nineteen states reported widespread or regional flu activity during the week of Dec. 12-18, according to the most recent CDC data. Roughly 3 percent of doctor visits in the states were related to flu-like symptoms, the agency said. The rate was 6 percent in the Southwest and Pacific states. With many doctors' offices closed for the holiday weekend, patients turned to hospitals for treatment in a ``tidal wave,'' said Dr. Joseph Kezele, a physician at Thunderbird. In some Phoenix-area emergency rooms, flu patients had to wait 12 to 18 hours to see a doctor. Others couldn't get hospital beds, even when their physician called. Walter Adams, 76, was trying to get admitted to Thunderbird for the second day in a row on Tuesday. He and his 74-year-old wife both went to their doctor's office on Monday with fevers and coughing. Adams' wife was admitted to the hospital Monday night, but no bed was available for him. On Tuesday, he waited for admission in a triage bed. ``When I get a cough, it just tears me up,'' he said, clutching its metal rails. Last week, Southern California hospitals, including those in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties, were rerouting patients while they dealt with packed rooms. Reporting statewide outbreaks in December were Montana, Utah and Washington. Those reporting concentrated outbreaks were Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
[CTRL] Fwd: Pentagon Grants Felons Security Clearances
Report: Felons Get Security Grants ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - A Pentagon agency regularly grants security clearances to employees of defense contractors who have long histories of financial problems, drug use, alcoholism, sexual misconduct or criminal activity, USA Today reported. Citing its own survey of more than 1,500 cases, the paper said in today's editions that applicants have been given sensitive clearances despite repeatedly lying about past misconduct to Defense Department investors. In other instances, contractor employees involved in significant criminal frauds were granted clearances, as were applicants who had violated state and federal laws by not filing income tax returns for several years, the report said. In one instance, an employee mishandled classified material during a five-year period but didn't lose his to-secret access, the paper found. The clearances were approved by the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals, or DOHA, a little-known agency that decides whether to grant or deny clearances to employees of defense contractors. The cases cited in the newspaper's project were made by administrative judges who rule in cases where applicants seek to overturn preliminary decisions denying them access to classified information. ``To be honest with you, I think DOHA often finds in favor of the individual and not security,'' Edwin Forrest, executive secretary of the Navy's Personnel Security Appeal Board, told the paper. ``What we see coming from DOHA are decisions that go outside the envelope - outside the adjudicative guidelines.'' ``Any American who looked at these DOHA decisions would be horrified,'' Howard Strouse, a former senior DOHA official told the paper. ``To know that we are giving clearances to some of these people is just intolerable.'' The head of the agency for the past 10 years, Leon J. Schachter, said he did not agree with every decision, ``but it is important to treat people fairly and we have a system designed to be fair.'' ``The goal is to understand past conduct and predict the future on it,'' Schachter told the paper. ``We are being asked to use a crystal ball. It is a very difficult job.''

The gumshoe-turned-police honcho is the former head of the FBI's New York field office. His verdict: Don't go there. "The prudent thing at the turn of this millennium is to celebrate by yourself or with your family ... if there is a strike, it will be in a large gathering," Kallstrom said, according to a report in the Australian Daily Telegraph. TRAVEL TIPS: The spin is dizzying. The FAA has repeatedly told us that air travel on New Year's Eve is no big deal, and the head of the agency says she'll be in the air during the date change. But just in case, Amtrak is going to shut down all its trains that are en route just before midnight. "All 53 trains operating will stop as briefly as possible in the nearest convenient stations just prior to midnight on Friday, December 31 before resuming operations. On December 31 and throughout the weekend, Amtrak will double the number of staff monitoring train operations," says a note from the White House's Y2K council. UK NIXES LOOTERS' PLANS: Jack Straw says the British army is ready for Y2K. No, it's not fixing tanks or trucks. Straw, the British Home Secretary, has located troops within 10 minutes of cities to quell possible riots and looting, according to one report. GOOD LUCK: We're not quite sure how much good it'll do, but this week the US Defense Department delivered a boatload of emergency supplies to the Russian government -- just in case. The DOD delivered 35 fire trucks, 6,500 fire extinguishers, 22 generators, and 700 power supply replacement batteries, according to an article in Federal Computer Week. The idea is that the Russians can use the equipment -- which they requested -- to stave off Y2K disasters. DON'T THINK TOO HARD ABOUT THIS ONE: Scottish sewercrats are running scared of Y2K. Authorities fret that a failure in pumping stations could cause sewage "blowback" through pipes into homes. The North of Scotland Water Authority has hired a number of standby generators to ensure this does not happen, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph. Copyright © 1994-99 Wired Digital Inc. Most of the wealth disclosed to the FEC belongs to his wife and kids. The senator from Arizona married into the family of a major beer distributor, Hensley, and his household owns at least $1,250,000 in Hensley-related assets. The One Group mutual funds and even the Anheuser-Busch (BUD) stock we see in McCain's holdings actually belong to his children. So how are McCain's kids doing? They're certainly not getting optimal returns, according to David Yeske. "It looks like he took the shortest distance between two points, and just allowed somebody to dump [money] into a bunch of funds," he says. "Once you mush all those together, they're all going to cancel each other out and you're going to get the SP 500. And with all the 12b-1 fees, it's going to cost you 1 1/2% to 2% a year in operating expenses. For what you're getting, you might as well get the Vanguard 500 Index (VFINX) and pay 18 basis points." [CTRL] SmartMoney Today: Presidential Portfolios - Steve Forbes
-Caveat Lector- from: http://aol.smartmoney.com:81/smt/candidates/index.cfm?story=sf Click Here: A HREF="http://aol.smartmoney.com:81/smt/candidates/index.cfm?story=sf"SmartMon ey Today: Presidential Portfolios/A - ONE of the presidential proposals of multimillionaire Steve Forbes is to convert Social Security benefits to individually controlled retirement accounts. Does this mean the Forbes Magazine scion -- and four-time winner of the Crystal Owl Award for economic forecasting -- will advise the nation on how to invest so we can all get the best possible returns for our golden years? Probably not. But in the meantime, here's a guy who has enough bread to take a few chances. And we can learn some risk-free lessons in the process. The publishing magnate, whose wealth has been estimated at $400 million, has at least $300,000 in Telefonos de Mexico (TMX), a hefty stake for an international investment -- though not for Forbes, whose equity investments are only a sliver of his total net worth. While Telmex seems like a great tactical stock pick -- the stock has returned over 100% for the year so far -- according to FEC filings, Forbes has had the holding since at least 1994. "If you're going to buy an individual stock in an emerging market and just sit on it," says David Yeske, "Telmex is a conservative way -- all things being equal -- to do something that's not that conservative." Other foreign telecom picks include Telefonica de Argentina (TAR) and TeleDanmark (TLD). The bulk of his stock, however, is in financial plays: Fannie Mae (FNM) and American International Group (AIG), together represent half of his stock holdings. Year-to-date, the former is in negative territory while the latter is returning double digits. Among Forbes' fund holdings, 27% is in fixed-income, 63% is in large-cap growth and value funds and 9% is in small-cap. According to Dee Lee, a man of Forbes' wealth doesn't really need mutual funds -- especially ones that generate taxable gains. "I mean, why bother? His tax return must be miserable as it is, so why add to it? At least with the stocks he can control the capital gains." Yeske notes that there doesn't seem to be any underlying strategy to Forbes' investments: "It looks like one of those portfolios that has grown one good idea at a time. Sort of a portfolio by accretion. I'm not seeing a consistent philosophy. He's got these value-oriented funds -- Davis NY Venture (NYVTX), Royce Value Trust (RVT), Oppenheimer Capital Value (QCVAX) -- side by side with Vanguard U.S. Growth (VWUSX) and Berger 100 (BEONX), which are supergrowthy funds. It's a weird mix." How does Forbes' portfolio stack up on Lee's scale of one to 10? "I look at his mutual funds and say, 'Why?' So for that, I take away points," says Lee. "But I give him a seven." [CTRL] SmartMoney Today: Presidential Portfolios - PAT BUCHANAN
-Caveat Lector- from: http://aol.smartmoney.com:81/smt/candidates/index.cfm?story=pb Click Here: A HREF="http://aol.smartmoney.com:81/smt/candidates/index.cfm?story=pb"SmartMon ey Today: Presidential Portfolios/A - PAT BUCHANAN has little good to say about free trade, fat-cat CEOs and a globa l economy that he says has bypassed America's working men and women. And he has certainly put his money where his mouth is. With just 10% of his holdings in stocks and the rest in cash, bonds, CDs, property and precious metals, Buchanan has pretty much bypassed the bull market, assembling a collection of investments that financial planner David Feldman calls the "Y2K survivalist portfolio." But he's nothing if not consistent. Says planner David Yeske: "Pat Buchanan was vehemently opposed to Nafta [North American Free Trade Association], and it kind of shows in his portfolio. Bonds, conservative utilities -- not a very internationalist portfolio." It's true: You won't find any "bleeding borders" here, no investments in foreign plays like Telefonos de Mexico (TMX). Buchanan's loathing of taxes is also reflected in his holdings. He has $500,000-plus in municipal bonds, all from his home state of Virginia. Planner Dee Lee sees the bond focus as the work of a tax-phobic investor with an ultraconservative bent. "Here's the reality: Would you want to get a 12% [return on your investment] and pay some taxes or just get 3%? He's got his money in resting places. It's not being used." Also collecting dust is $250,000-plus in precious metals. And we're not talking gold-oriented stock or mutual fund investments here: Buchanan has actual lumps of metal in a vault somewhere. Even with Buchanan's small collection of stocks -- including apple-pie telecom picks like ATT (T) and Lucent Technologies (LU) -- Dee Lee gives the self-proclaimed "economic nationalist" a three out of 10 for having a sluggish portfolio. "It's undiversified and not interested in growth." Company 12/31/98 Price Curr. Price*% Change12/31/98 Shares Est. Value Ameritech Corp. (AIT ) 63.38 NA 0% 513.0 0 Bell Atlantic Corp. [CTRL] SmartMoney Today: Presidential Portfolios - Al Gore
-Caveat Lector- from: http://aol.smartmoney.com:81/smt/candidates/index.cfm?story=ag Click Here: A HREF="http://aol.smartmoney.com:81/smt/candidates/index.cfm?story=ag"SmartMon ey Today: Presidential Portfolios/A - "SHOCKING," says David Feldman. "A lease on a zinc mine and no mutual funds? Shocking." That's right: Al Gore's assets look more like 1899 than 1999. As things stand, the V.P. is without anything with a P/E, let alone an IPO: no stocks, no funds, not even a bond. What does he have? Land -- as far as the eye can see. Oh, and a zinc mine he's leasing out to an Australian mining company, Pasminco. He also had at least $39,000 in bank or money-market accounts in 1998. Of course, if Gore were an investor, he'd be encouraged to keep his money in a blind trust -- much like President Bill Clinton, who has $1,000,000-plus in three blind trusts. While Gore's puritanical portfolio may be conflict-of-interest free, it's also making him, well, not exactly poor, but it sure ain't making him rich. Gore's net worth has apparently dwindled while he's been in office, from a maximum of $1.6 million in 1992 to a max of $1.2 million in 1997 (based on the ranges provided by FEC documents). In 1998 alone, the Gores missed out on a 26.7% return in the SP 500. The veep's non-portfolio had our financial planners sputtering with indignation. "The fact that he hasn't been willing to participate even on a blind-trust basis," says Feldman, "means he's lost out on one of the major bull markets of U.S. financial history." Dee Lee gives Gore her lowest score for not planning ahead at all: two out of a possible 10. "If he were to drop dead," Lee reasons, "his wife would have to sell some of the houses." [CTRL] Fwd: [corp-focus] The Corporate Century
The Corporate Century By Russell Mokhiber and Robert Weissman As we move to the end of the millennium, it is important to remind ourselves that this has been the century of the corporation, where for-profit, largely unaccountable organizations with unlimited life, size and power took control of the economy and of the political economy -- largely to the detriment of the individual consumer, worker, neighbor and citizen. Let us again remind ourselves that corporations were the creation of the citizenry. (Thanks here to Richard Grossman of the Project on Corporations Law and Democracy for resurrecting and teaching us a history we would have collectively forgotten.) In the beginning, we the citizenry created the corporation to do the public's work -- build a canal or a road -- and then go out of business. We asked people with money to build the canal or road. If anything went wrong, the liability of these people with money -- shareholders, we call them -- would be limited to the amount of money they invested and no more. This limited liability corporation is the bedrock of the market economy. The markets would deflate like a punctured balloon if corporations were stripped of limited liability for shareholders. And what do we, the citizenry, get in return for this generous public grant of limited liability? Originally, we told the corporation what to do. You are to deliver the goods and then go out of business. And then let humans live our lives. But corporations gained power, broke through democratic controls, and now roam around the world inflicting unspeakable damage on the earth. Let us count the ways: price-fixing, chemical explosions, mercury poisoning, oil spills, destruction of public transportation systems. Need concrete examples? These are five of the most egregious of the century: Number five: Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) and Price Fixing. In October 1996, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), the good people who bring you National Public Radio, pled guilty and paid a $100 million criminal fine -- at the time, the largest criminal antitrust fine ever -- for its role in conspiracies to fix prices to eliminate competition and allocate sales in the lysine and citric acid markets worldwide. Number four: Union Carbide and Bhopal. In 1984, a Union Carbide pesticide factory in Bhopal, India released 90,000 pounds of the chemical methyl isocyanate. The resulting toxic cloud killed several thousand people and injured hundreds of thousands. Number Three: Chisso Corporation and Minamata. Minamata, Japan was home to Chisso Corporation, a petrochemical company and maker of plastics. In the 1950s, fish began floating dead in Minamata Bay, cats began committing suicide, and children were getting rare forms of brain cancer. Thousands were injured. The company had been dumping mercury into the bay. Number two: Exxon Corporation and Valdez Oil Spill. Ten years ago, the Exxon Valdez hit a reef in Prince William Sound Alaska and spilled 11 million gallons of crude oil onto 1,500 miles of Alaskan shoreline, killing birds and fish, and destroying the way of life of thousands of Native Americans. Number one: General Motors and the Destruction of Inner City Rail. Seventy years ago, clean, quiet and efficient inner city rail systems dotted the U.S. landscape. They were eliminated in the 1930s to make way for dirty and noisy gasoline-powered automobiles and buses. The inner city rail systems were destroyed by those very companies that would most benefit from destruction of inner city rail -- oil, tire and automobile companies, led by General Motors. By 1949, GM had helped destroy 100 electric systems in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, St. Louis, Oakland, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and elsewhere. In 1949, a federal grand jury in Chicago indicted and a jury convicted GM, Standard Oil of California and Firestone, among others, of criminally conspiring to replace electric transportation with gas- and diesel-powered buses and to monopolize the sale of buses and related products to transportation companies around the country. GM and the other convicted companies were fined $5,000 each. These are not unusual examples. Books have been written documenting the ongoing destruction. The question remains -- how do we put a stop to it? And the answer seems clear to us -- reassert public control over what was originally a public institution. The ideas on how to reassert such control are the subject of debate and conflict, in Seattle and around the world. But it seems clear to us that as the twentieth century was the century of the corporation, the twenty-first promises to be the century where flesh-and-blood human beings reassert sovereignty over their lives, their markets and their democracy. Let us not forget that corporate control was never inevitable. They took it from us, and it is our responsibility to take it back. Russell Mokhiber is editor of the Washington, D.C.-based Corporate Crime Reporter. Robert
Re: [CTRL] Bauer: Gay [homo]Couples Akin to Terrorism
-Caveat Lector- The "nuclear family" as a widespread social phenomenon emerged in the United States only during the late 1940's, as ex-GI's returning from the war took advantage of VA loans to acquire their own homes. It flourished during the 1950's and early '60's, but began to disappear in the late '60's, as alternative forms of the family began to take shape. These alternatives were not necessarily multi-generational families (although for a good bit of my life I lived with three and even four generations under one or two roofs); they included unmarried couples, both straight and gay, in short-term relationships; ditto, but in long-term committed relationships; multiple couples sharing living space; polymorphous-perverse assemblages; and every conceivable combination in between. As divorce has become more accepted, something often called "serial monogamy" has come into being...i.e., being faithful to one partner at a time. (The multi-generational arrangements are better for children, of course.) Another widespread phenomenon is grandparents raising grandchildren, for a variety of reasons. If anyone can find the nuclear family in all of this hodgepodge, go to it... -Original Message- From: Ynr Chyldz Wyld [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, December 28, 1999 11:48 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [CTRL] Bauer: Gay [homo]Couples Akin to Terrorism -Caveat Lector- From: "nessie" [EMAIL PROTECTED] What exactly are "homosexual values" and why would the NWO promote them? Well, all the gays I've known over the years were staunch Reaganite conservatives... Good riddance. The nuclear family is a very recent and not very wide spread abberation. Most people on earth live in extended families of at least three generations. And not necessarily blood kin. What is now called 'the nuclear family' is, as you say, a recent phenomenon, and quite frankly is not all that great, in my estimation... It encourages a self-centeredness that older, 'tribal' societies (which includes most of Europe up until the 19th century) didn't have... Most people have always lived in extended families since before we came down from the trees. And those extended families then gathered into 'tribal' units, called villages and towns. The nuclear family fragments and atomizes society into easily managable consumer units. It fosters mental illness, particularly neurosis, because it limits the child's role models to two and because it discourages community. Exactly. God save us from the cult of the 'nuclear family' June ;-) DECLARATION DISCLAIMER == CTRL is a discussion and informational exchange list. Proselyzting propagandic screeds are not allowed. -Caveat Lector- If I were infiltrating the United States with the mission of conducting terrorist operations, I sure as hell would not try to bring my own explosives across the border in such a way that they would be found by a routine inspection. I presume that this guy had a network with which he was planning to hook up--it would be a lot easier to obtain the munitions once he was inside the country. Re: [CTRL] sleep well America!
-Caveat Lector- Like I said, J2, because of the lack of readiness and training due to this very thing, is why I'd run, not walk to the nearest exit if I were back in the military today. Being in the military is a group effort... and when there is no group, if you are called to red alert duty, and you're in the military, you will die. Tell me, what's peaceful about that? At least with the military ready in all aspects, if you were called to protect the US freedoms and liberties, you would have a "fighting chance". So it does not mean "we have a long way to go" for anything. It means a lot of men and women will die senselessly just so you and I can send these emails through a protected centralized computing center... which I dare say is subject to change at any moment. Our dear president, in order to satisfy his own selfish desires (one of many derelictions of duty) has reduced the US's ability to wholly protect US borders and outside interests and investments. No wonder we have terrorists with bombs coming and going on our borders! For example, the US was heartless, but pretty smart at the same time as over the years they've kept Mexico from rising above poverty level, or becoming educated; the US has even been guilty of allowing a few to come and go (calling them 'illegal aliens'), making sure their way of life was enhanced by providing food, shelter and jobs, albeit illegal, so as these illegals would take the message back to their constituents in Mexico that Uncle Sam will "pay for everything". Why work? In essence by keeping Mexico poor, unable to muster a strong military force, we have ensured our "southern" border with the padding of poor and innocent people. What's peaceful about that? America has, however, bit through her tongue a hundred and one times to remain allies with Canada and certain issues of Great Brittain. We have no choice but to remain her closest ally, no matter what the cost. Our northern border is now covered. However, east and west borders are not so safe. J2, even with my military travels, how about this? I live in the area where I got to see the result of internal terrorist activity. A bomb blew up just few miles from my home. My house shook, windows cracked and things fell off walls and shelves. I saw with my own eyes, the terror, the grief, the blood and the tears!!! I have first hand knowledge, the job of bagging and tagging body parts. (Imagine finding a child's foot or a little finger!!! or how about a body with no head?) I've stood in the hole where the blast occurred. I looked up at the hanging bits of debris with blood stains splattered all over the place and stood in awe that this could happen within the borders of this country! Television could not capture the shear terror of this act! What war caused this? Answer: NONE! This was done in the name of peace... in the name of protest and in the name of ignorance. And to this day, as the memorial begins to loom on the street where this atrocity occurred, the perpetrator sits in a secured cell with telephone, internet access, and all conveniences of home, while tax dollars support his well being until he has no more right to appeal. The blood baths continue in each life this senseless act affected. So please don't talk to me about military Imperialist NWO junk! You've been watching far too many fantasy movies. The NWO is not in military might; the NWO comes in prosperously and peacefully! Not with war or military. It sits, in it's penthouse, looming above the systems of the world who gave the power to it; those being the armchair warriors of the world; no blood spilled there... but their hands are dripping with the stuff. And it makes me sick. So tell me, PEACE? at what cost J2? Dream on... and pray that no one drives up next to your office in a Ryder truck and blows someone you love to bits for no reason. eagle 1 - Original Message - From: "Nurev Ind Research" [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, December 29, 1999 7:32 AM Subject: Re: [CTRL] sleep well America! FIND OUT AT http://www.stratfor.com/ __ STRATFOR.COM Global Intelligence Update December 29, 1999 The Middle East: A Peaceful Backwater Summary The end of the Cold War has caused a rare set of circumstances to occur in the Middle East. Viewed from a global standpoint, it is, for now, non-strategic. Arab regimes, based upon Gamel Abdel Nasser's model for a secular and nationalistic government, are in a state of decline. The real question for the next decade, as a result, no longer turns on the Arab-Israeli relationship - but rather Arab identity. Three forces will converge - the decline of Arab leadership, the unstable succession periods that will follow and the Iranian variable - indicating a real possibility of a resurgent and powerful fundamentalist movement sweeping the Islamic world. Yet, current relationships between Arab countries and Israel point to a future with fairly manageable, somewhat unhealthy, peace in the region. Analysis For 50 years, any analysis of the Middle East turned on Arab- Israeli relations. As we have discussed in detail [ http://www.stratfor.com/SERVICES/GIU/112299.asp ], the Cold War and the Arab-Israeli conflict were intimately connected. The Western strategy of containment depended heavily on maintaining a cordon around the Soviet Bloc on the line of Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey and Iran. Unable to break this line, the Soviet Union countered by attempting to encircle the encirclement and brought Syria and Iraq under its influence. The Western countermove was to increase dependence on Israel, Jordan and the Arabian Peninsula. The end of the Cold War has brought an extraordinary moment to the Middle East. Now, at a rare instance in history, this crossroads of three continents is not in anyone's line of march nor critical to any empire's defense. Viewed from a global standpoint, the Middle East is, for now, non-strategic. Russia is struggling merely to hold on to its own periphery. Even oil -though higher in price than a year ago - is not in such short supply as to arouse concerns. Indeed, it is important to remember that the pivot of the entire region - the area from Cairo to Damascus - doesn't have much oil. The decline of great power rivalry has opened the door to what passes for peace in the region. Egypt and Israel have had a peace treaty for a generation. Jordan and Israel formalized their ongoing entente more recently. Syria and Israel are now seeing if they can formalize what has been in place for well over a decade. If the attempt fails, it is of little importance. Syria and Israel have too many common interests in Lebanon to allow too much friction to develop, especially when there is no great power audience to play for. Therefore, for the moment, the fate of the region is of far greater interest to inhabitants than to outsiders. This is a startling feeling to Israelis, Egyptians and Syrians, all of whom expect the world to care much more about what goes on there than is the case. The real question for the next decade, as a result, no longer turns on the Arab-Israeli relationship - but rather the Arab-Arab relationship, or to be more precise, the future dynamic of the Arab world. And if the most important issue for the region is the future of Arab self-conception, then the most important issue is what is called, inappropriately, Islamic fundamentalism. It is a misnomer simply because the real question in the region is the extent to which Islam in general, rather than in any fundamentalist sense, will dominate. This is a critical question because we are on the verge of a generational shift in Arab leadership. Jordan's King Hussein is dead. Syria's Hafez Assad is clearly ill. Egypt's Hosni Mubarak has been in office for a generation. Moammar Gadhafi has been in office for more than 30 years. Most of those now governing Arab states will not be around in 10 years. Therefore, the question of Islam intersects with this impending generational change. The Rise and Fall of Nasserism To understand the next 10 years, we must take a detour into history, and particularly into the history of the most dynamic movement in post-war Arab history: Nasserism. Today, the regimes of major Arab states that are not monarchies are descendants of the model pioneered in Egypt by Gamel Abdel Nasser. While Nasser and his brand of pan-Arab nationalism have long since passed
[CTRL] Hitler Would Have Loved Echelon...
-Caveat Lector- Printed in Ekstra Bladet, Denmark, Nov. 22, 1999 HITLER WOULD HAVE LOVED IT Echelon is the final struggle for the right to privacy and the right to talk and communicate freely. BY: KENAN SEEBERG AND BO ELKJÆR Echelon is the end of our right to privacy as we know it today. The end of our right to speak, write and act as free and independent human beings. The global surveillance collaboration places all of us under constant surveillance whenever we use certain words and concepts. We are placed under suspicion from the moment we start communicating with other people. On the telephone, computer, telex or telefax. Moreover if we voluntarily allow the state and its secret agencies to have access to everything we do, think and talk about, we simultaneously run the risk that someone will misuse this information. Hitler would have licked his lips at the opportunity of having an Echelon system at his command. So would Stalin, Mussolini, Mao or Joe McCarthy. Push a button and Jews, gays, system critics, deviants and persons of the wrong political persuasion appear on a screen. Or the address and phone number of every Danish police officer. That was basically what happened when Germany's plenipotentiary during the occupation of Denmark, Werner Best, took over the Copenhagen Police Force in 1943 and ordered the arrest of all Danish police officers. Until then, the officers had otherwise aided in rounding up Danish communists. So by then, most of the communists had already been 'fixed', jailed or had fled. THE COMPUTER WILL KNOW EVERYTHING Up to the German occupation, Denmark had close ties with Nazi Germany through Interpol and other channels, which we even used to exchange information with the Germans. So who is to say that our good friends today will also be our chums tomorrow? Why should we let foreign countries and their businesses and industries have access to our most vital national information? The information on which we base our democracy and our financial strength. Danish laws that prohibit the coordination of data records are based on sound principles. As are other laws which state that the political conviction, race, religion and sexuality of Danish citizens may not be registered. And still more laws which state that only persons who are suspected of a very serious crime may have their letters opened and conversations tapped by the spies of the state. We have learned from the past, and we are free to be whoever we are, and to do and believe in whatever we want to. As long as we do not go out and harm others on the basis of our beliefs. Therefore, as long as we obey the law, the state had better do the same. This means stay out of our homes, our cars and our computers until the day we break the law. Within the next ten years, most people will have a camera installed in their computers and the computer will be connected to their television, video, telephone, electronic kitchen appliances, front door, car and all other electronic equipment. Everything will be interconnected in one big network. And we will say 'dot-dot-dot' every other sentence. The computer will know in advance who you vote for and with whom you are secretly in love. When you pick up a book, the computer will help you remember where you left off, remind you to take your birth-control pills, and flash a red warning light if you forget to change the baby. By so doing, your health, your tastes, your habits, your shopping and your perversities will be registered under your name, making your everyday life much easier. But it will also make it easier for the spies behind the global surveillance systems. TOTAL SURVEILLANCE Even the NSA says it is striving for '100% hearability'. Total coverage of everything that is communicated on the earth. So said former NSA agent Wayne Madsen to Ekstra Bladet two weeks ago. That was the objective of the global spies already in 1986. 13 years ago. "Already in 1978, Echelon was capable of zooming in on individual persons and listening in on your conversation in real time," says Margaret Newsham today to Ekstra Bladet. So imagine what they are capable of today, in 1999. Another former agent who repents his NSA past is afraid to make a statement, but before he hangs up, he manages to say: "I am convinced that your perception of this surveillance is way below the mark. You have absolutely no idea of how extensive the surveillance is. We're talking 'big business' here." So where Echelon is concerned, we must either accept that our democracy is now based on new ground rules, or believe that we can determine the direction of our own lives. If we do not succeed in getting our government to intercede, then we must accept the fact that the intelligence agencies, and with that the state, are allowed to listen in on our lives any time they want to and register whatever we are doing. Our constitutional right to privacy will disappear in the new millennium. We also accept that as a little
[CTRL] Do They Know Something In D.C. That They Aren't Telling?????
-Caveat Lector- December 28, 1999 2000 warning in D.C. more dire than most By Ronald J. Hansen THE WASHINGTON TIMES The D.C. Emergency Management Agency's "Y2K Preparedness Guide" tells readers to "store a supply of seven to ten days worth of nonperishable foods per person." Meanwhile, most other jurisdictions have advised being prepared for only a few days. District of Columbia officials are urging residents to prepare for more than a week without private and public services as the new year approaches, though most other jurisdictions have advised being prepared for only a few days. The D.C. Emergency Management Agency's "Y2K Preparedness Guide" tells readers to "store a supply of seven to ten days worth of nonperishable foods per person." It also warns residents to "set aside enough cash to meet living expenses for at least a one-month period" and "consider renting or purchasing a generator." Peter G. LaPorte, the agency's acting director, said the guide is not intended to scare residents nor contradict the rosy picture Mayor Anthony A. Williams painted nine days ago. "If you say you need to be prepared for three days, people blink at that. So you say be ready a little longer," Mr. LaPorte said. "The idea is to take those proper precautions." Mr. Williams was unavailable for comment yesterday. Local officials and businesses have said for several weeks that their computers are ready for the year 2000. Nancy Moses, a spokeswoman for Pepco, which provides electricity for the city and most of nearby suburban Maryland, yesterday said the utility is ready and not asking customers to gird for anything unusual. "We've spent $12 million over the past five years to be sure that the system is ready and will work," she said. "Our recommendation is for people to plan as if it's a three-day holiday weekend." The city's guide advises residents to buy batteries for flashlights (rather than use candles), keep financial records in a secure place, contact neighbors and have a neighborhood emergency plan. The city has run several preparation drills, including one yesterday for people working New Year's Eve. "We don't expect to have to put the plans into action, but the plans are in place and they're tested in case we need them," Mr. Williams said Dec. 19. "I want to assure all our residents that if you call 911 or there's a problem at the power company or there's a snowstorm, you will get the service you need. We will keep the city running." The city has spent more than $140 million preparing for the millennium and overhauling its computers to ensure they function properly Jan. 1. Many older systems were considered apt to malfunction because dated information used only the last two digits of the year and could not distinguish "00" as 2000 rather than 1900. Of the city's 378 computer systems, all the "critical systems" are year-2000 compliant and 96 percent of all systems are ready, Mr. Williams said. About 95 percent of the city's 15,000 personal computers also are ready; the rest are scheduled to be replaced in the final days before the new year. Some local banks have placed signs in the windows of their branch offices and messages on ATM machines telling customers the banks are ready for the new year. Mr. LaPorte said residents have welcomed the call for preparation, which is applicable to more than year-2000 problems. "We know people have done some of the things," he said. "A lot of the people have said, 'I really don't have my essential documents in a secure place.' It's just good common sense." Early weather forecasts for Friday indicate cool temperatures but no snow, Mr. LaPorte noted. He could not estimate how many people will attend festivities at the Mall and the city's two-day "Main Street Millennium" on Constitution Avenue. "This is a difficult one to peg," he said of the expected turnout, comparing it to the annual "Taste of D.C." and Fourth of July celebrations. City officials will monitor New Year's fallout in other cities around the world, Mr. LaPorte said. Additionally, representatives from Bell Atlantic, Pepco and other utilities and businesses will be in touch with city leaders throughout the first night of the new year. "More than half the company will be working," Pepco's Ms. Moses said. "We would normally have a skeleton staff." D.C. officials also will keep in close contact with Maryland, Virginia and federal authorities, Mr. LaPorte said. DECLARATION DISCLAIMER == CTRL is a discussion and informational exchange list. [CTRL] Huge Magnetic Storm Could Worsen Y2K Troubles.
-Caveat Lector- HUGE MAGNETIC STORM MAY WORSEN Y2K, U.S. SAYS American Reporter Staff Washington, D.C. WASHINGTON -- Just when many federal and state officials were beginning to feel confident that Y2K problems would not disable the nation's computer systems, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has revealed that a giant magnetic storm may strike Earth at New Year's and cause vast disruptions in power, communications and other sunspot-sensitive technology. "During the sunspot maximum we are going through now, smaller storms can occur rather frequently -- even several times a week. Though it is unlikely that a really large storm will hit just as the New Year arrives, it could happen, and if it does, the results might complicate the situation with Y2K," said Don Herzog, a geophysicist with the agency. While magnetic storms are not rare, "great storms like this are," the USGS said in a press release issued Tuesday. "The last great magnetic storm occurred exactly 11 years ago this coming March 13 at 3 a.m. EST. That storm caused the collapse of the Hydro-Quebec power system in Canada, leaving about 6 million people without power. If the storm had struck a few hours later than it did, the blackout would likely have been much worse because of the heavier power consumption during daytime hours," USGS officials said. "While it is geomagnetic storms that give rise to the beautiful Northern lights, they can also pose a serious threat for commercial and military satellite operators, power companies, astronauts, and they can even shorten the life of oil pipelines in Alaska by increasing pipeline corrosion," the statement said. Geomagnetism is the study of the Earth's magnetic field. The field can undergo large and rapid fluctuations due to the interaction of charged particles ejected by the Sun that collide with the geomagnetic field. These disturbances are known as "geomagnetic storms," and can cause power blackouts, disruptions in communications, satellite failures, and other hazardous effects. These solar ejections, traveling at more than a million miles an hour, are associated with sunspots, whose number increase and decrease over an 11-year cycle. The number of geomagnetic storms therefore increases and decreases in concert with that cycle. The next peak in sunspot activity is expected to occur in early 2000 -- perhaps just in time for the arrival of the New Year. The USGS operates a network of 13 magnetic observatories that continuously monitor the Earth's magnetic field. The USGS provides this valuable geomagnetic data to a wide variety of users and organizations that can be affected by a geomagnetic storm. The data are collected in near-real time via satellite to a downlink center located in Golden, Colo. They are then sent to the U.S. Air Force (USAF) Space Command Center for use in their operational models that characterize the near-space environment surrounding the Earth, and to NOAA's Space Environment Center for distribution to their extensive customer list. The geomagnetic data are also shared with agencies comparable to the USGS in other countries including Canada, Japan, France, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and others as part of an international organization called INTERMAGNET. The USGS also produces models of the Earth's magnetic field that are used in a host of applications, including GPS receivers, military and civilian navigational systems, and in research for studies of the effects of geomagnetic storms on the ionosphere, atmosphere, and near-space environment. -Caveat Lector- Naturally D.C.'s Y2K warning is worse than everyone else's--that government has been incompetent for so long, regardless of who was running it, that ANY incident, no matter how minor, becomes a major public disaster when it hits D.C. Just look at the way they handle the one heavy snowfall they get every year...they are NEVER prepared for it, and the entire city goes into paralysis. This warning isn't so much about Y2K as it is about D.C. itself. And please listen up, people...I'm not talking about the fact that D.C.'s government is overwhelmingly black and Democrat. It doesn't matter whether it's black Democrats in City Hall or white Republicans in Congress...D.C. is now, always has been, and, I daresay, always will be utterly and unredeemably corrupt and incompetent. The Congress could outsource D.C.'s government to the Disney Corporation, for all I know, and it wouldn't make a scrap of difference. They'd be better off making D.C. the personal fief of the House Speaker, and channel all the graft into his pocket--that way at least we'd know where the buck was stopping... -Original Message- From: William Shannon [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, December 29, 1999 3:29 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [CTRL] Do They Know Something In D.C. [CTRL] Clinton and Nero
-Caveat Lector- From http://www.worldnetdaily.com/bluesky_btl/19991229_xcbtl_clinton_an.shtml I don't know about you, but I am still reeling over the under-reported, under-scrutinized, under-analyzed comments by White House press secretary Joe Lockhart about Southern Baptists. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/bluesky_btl/19991228_xcbtl_the_bigots.shtml For those of you who missed it, here's what he said: "I think the president has made very clear ... his views on religious tolerance, and how one of the greatest challenges going into the next century is dealing with intolerance, dealing with ethnic and religious hatred, and coming to grips with the long-held resentments between religions. So I think he's been very clear in his opposition to whatever organization, including the Southern Baptist, that perpetuate ancient religious hatred." Lockhart, the official White House spokesman, stated, without equivocation, without hesitation and, most importantly, without rebuke from his boss, that the evangelical Christian notion of carrying out the Great Commission and spreading Christianity to people of other faiths equates with perpetuating "ancient religious hatred." In effect, the Clinton administration is now on record as believing that the practice of biblical Christianity is tantamount to a "hate crime." It might surprise some people to learn that this is not a new idea. Americans are not noted for their historical memory. But Christians were among the Roman Empire's most persecuted victims. It's interesting to know why -- what the motivation was for that persecution. The first-century Roman historian Cornelius Tacitus provides some insight in his classic work, "Annals." Here's a translated excerpt from "Annals" 15:44, describing Emperor Nero's reaction to the burning of Rome: But all human efforts, all the lavish gifts of the emperor, and the propitiations of the gods, did not banish the sinister belief that the conflagration was the result of an order. Consequently, to get rid of the report, Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilate, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their center and become popular. Accordingly, an arrest was first made of all who pleaded guilty; then, upon their information, an immense multitude was convicted, not so much of the crime of firing the city, as of hatred against mankind. Mockery of every sort was added to their deaths. Covered with the skins of beasts, they were torn by dogs and perished, or were nailed to crosses, or were doomed to the flames and burnt, to serve as a nightly illumination, when daylight had expired. Notice that Christians were charged with "hatred of mankind." Isn't that interesting? They were executed for a "hate crime." This is where it all began. And look who's talking about picking up the torch of persecution today -- the Clinton administration. You may not think that's significant. You may not think it's important that the city of Chicago is asking the Southern Baptists not to hold their convention there because of the perception that the denomination is a group of haters. You may not think it is relevant that Christians are the target of bias and bigotry in our culture today on a scale unprecedented since the fall of Rome. I do. I also think it is worth noting that we are past the point at which government simply turned a blind eye to this kind of prejudice. Now government -- at the highest levels -- is an active participant in fanning the flames of hatred against Christians. Bill Clinton, the man who conveniently embraced the Southern Baptist tradition when it came time for political redemption in Arkansas, is leading us back to the horrors of Rome. You might say he's a modern-day Nero. This is the real "hate crime" -- if there is such a thing. If this isn't enough to wake Christians in America from their complacency and misguided trust in government, I give up. It's time, brothers and sisters, to put your faith in God, not in Caesar, not in Nero and certainly not in Clinton. DECLARATION DISCLAIMER == CTRL is a discussion and informational exchange list. [CTRL] Fwd: RITALIN: Brain-Damage Evidence For Amphetamines
Below is a press release from Yale University about a study that found short-term low-dose amphetamine use in primates caused possibly permanent cognitive impairment. Researcher Stacy Castner concluded: "It may be the case that even a brief period of low-dose amphetamine abuse in early adolescence or early adulthood can produce profound cognitive deficits that may persist for a couple of years or more after amphetamine use has ended." Ritalin is generally identical to amphetamines, which are also prescribed to suppress the same childhood misbehaviors defined as "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder" (ADHD). It's plausible that if amphetamines cause profound cognitive deficits in primates they would in humans too; accordingly, the researchers extrapolate their findings to human use. We've already seen that therapeutic doses of Ritlin can induce an information-processing dysfunction in human subjects that is also a classic symptom of schizophrenic psychopathology (http://www.erols.com/igoddard/polyrisk.htm and see: http://users.erols.com/igoddard/conyers.htm). Attesting to the brain-impairing power of Ritalin, it's also been shown that Ritalin "induces a psychopathology that seems to mimic schizophrenic psychosis more closely than that induced by amphetamines and cocaine" (Journal of Pharmacology and Experiment Therapeutics, 1993 267(1)). A study reported in Science News (December 18 25, 1999) found that most of the children receiving behavior therapy had a reduction of ADHD symptoms sufficient to negate any need for drugs. Science News states: "About two-thirds of the children receiving behavioral treatment alone did well enough to stay off medication throughout the study" (see: http://sciencenews.org/sn_arc99/12_18_99/fob1.htm). The logical and medically ethical choice seems only too clear: give kids attention respect, not brain-impairing drugs!! = http://www.yale.edu/opa/newsr/99-10-26-02.all.html = CONTACT: Karen N. Peart, (203) 432-1326 #92 Yale Study of Long-Term Learning Deficits Resulting From Repeated Amphetamine Exposure Could Help Drug Abusers New Haven, Conn. -- Repeated exposure to low-dose amphetamines can cause deficits in cognitive performance that last for several years after the exposure ends, offering insight into potential harmful effects of chronic substance abuse in humans, a Yale study has found. "While previous studies show that acute amphetamine injections can impair cognition, our report is the first to demonstrate long lasting-over two years-and possibly permanent cognitive deficits induced by a brief period of intermittent low-dose amphetamine exposure," said Stacy Castner, a researcher on the study. "This research could also lead to potential treatment of deficits in former drug abusers as well as potential drug deterrents in adolescents and young adults." To mimic the "binge/crash" pattern of drug abuse in humans, Castner gave primates twice-daily injections of chronic amphetamine (AMPH), five days per week for six weeks. The AMPH dose ranged from 0.1 mg/kg to 1.0 mg/kg and was increased by 0.1 mg/kg every three drug days. The investigation assessed changes in behavior and videotaped the primates to record behavioral responses to each dose of AMPH. At six months into the amphetamine exposure, the primates were tested on an array of cognitive tasks ranging from recognition memory, visual discrimination and spatial working memory. Primates previously exposed to amphetamines failed to successfully perform the tasks even with continued testing, for up to one and a half years. "The results show the presence of profound cognitive deficits in the amphetamine-treated animals," said Castner, associate research scientist in Neurobiology. "This finding could also lead to further understanding of other diseases involving dysregulation of the brain's dopamine neurons." (more) The study, which will be highlighted at the Society for Neuroscience annual meeting in Miami, Florida from October 23-28, is consistent with data from human research where commonly abused drugs such as cocaine and ecstasy have been found to produce long-lasting and possibly permanent cognitive deficits. "It may be the case that even a brief period of low-dose amphetamine abuse in early adolescence or early adulthood can produce profound cognitive deficits that may persist for a couple of years or more after amphetamine use has ended," said Castner. The investigators' ongoing research includes experiments involving neurotransmitters that will help explain the long- lasting cognitive deficits in primates. They are also conducting experiments to reverse the AMPH-induced cognitive deficits in the same group of primates and they plan to investigate the biochemical and structural changes in the primate brain that could account for the behavioral

-Caveat Lector- http://www.sightings.com/ufo/nwoquotes.htm "The world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes." Benjamin Disraeli, first Prime Minister of England, in a novel he published in 1844 called "Coningsby, the New Generation" "The governments of the present day have to deal not merely with other governments, with emperors, kings and ministers, but also with the secret societies which have everywhere their unscrupulous agents, and can at the last moment upset all the governments' plans. " British Prime Ministers Benjamin Disraeli, 1876 "Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the Field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it." Woodrow Wilson The New Freedom. (1913) "In March, 1915, the J.P. Morgan interests, the steel, shipbuilding, and powder interest, and their subsidiary organizations, got together 12 men high up in the newspaper world and employed them to select the most influential newspapers in the United States and sufficient number of them to control generally the policy of the daily pressThey found it was only necessary to purchase the control of 25 of the greatest papers. An agreement was reached; the policy of the papers was bought, to be paid for by the month; an editor was furnished for each paper to properly supervise and edit information regarding the questions of preparedness, militarism, financial policies, and other things of national and international nature considered vital to the interests of the purchasers. U.S. Congressman Oscar Callaway, 1917 "What is important is to dwell upon the increasing evidence of the existence of a secret conspiracy, throughout the world, for the destruction of organized government and the letting loose of evil." Christian Science Monitor editorial, June 19th, l920 "The real menace of our republic is this invisible government which like a giant octopus sprawls its slimy length over city, state and nation. Like the octopus of real life, it operates under cover of a self created screenAt the head of this octopus are the Rockefeller Standard Oil interests and a small group of powerful banking houses generally referred to as international bankers. The little coterie of powerful international bankers virtually run the United States government for their own selfish purposes. They practically control both political parties." New York City Mayor John F. Hylan, 1922 "From the days of Sparticus, Wieskhopf, Karl Marx, Trotsky, Rosa Luxemberg, and Emma Goldman, this world conspiracy has been steadily growing. This conspiracy played a definite recognizable role in the tragedy of the French revolution. It has been the mainspring of every subversive movement during the 19th century. And now at last this band of extraordinary personalities from the underworld of the great cities of Europe and America have gripped the Russian people by the hair of their head and have become the undisputed masters of that enormous empire." Winston Churchill, stated to the London Press, in l922. "We are at present working discreetly with all our might to wrest this mysterious force called sovereignty out of the clutches of the local nation states of the world. Professor Arnold Toynbee, in a June l931 speech before the Institute for the Study of International Affairs in Copenhagen. "The government of the Western nations, whether monarchical or republican, had passed into the invisible hands of a plutocracy, international in power and grasp. It was, I venture to suggest, this semioccult power whichpushed the mass of the American people into the Cauldron of World War 1." British military historian MajorGeneral J.F.C. Fuller, l941 "For a long time I felt that FDR had developed many thoughts and ideas that were his own to benefit this country, the United States. But, he didn't. Most of his thoughts, his political ammunition, as it were, were carefully manufactured for him in advanced by the Council on Foreign Relations One World Money group.. Brilliantly, with great gusto, like a fine piece of artillery, he exploded that prepared "ammunition" in the middle of an unsuspecting target, the American people, and thus paid off and returned his internationalist political support." "The UN is but a longrange, international banking apparatus nearly set up for financial and economic profit by a small group of powerful One World Revolutionaries, hungry for profit and power." "The depression was the calculated 'shearing' of the public by the World Money powers, triggered by the planned sudden shortage of supply of call money in the New York money market..The One World Government

-Caveat Lector- The Making of George W. Bush Bush Name Helps Fuel Oil Dealings The old Petroleum Building in Midland, where George W. Bush had his oil company offices. (By Susan Biddle The Post) By George Lardner Jr. and Lois Romano Washington Post Staff Writers Friday, July 30, 1999; Page A1 Sixth of seven articles As world oil prices plummeted in the winter of 1985-86, George W. Bush faced the most serious crisis of his 11-year career as a West Texas oilman. Spectrum 7, his exploration and development company, had reported a net loss of $1.6 million in 1985, due to the fast-deteriorating value of its holdings. As the price of oil fell from $25 to $9 a barrel, the firm was on its way to losing another $402,000 by mid-1986. Bush's company owed more than $3 million in bank loans and other debts with no hope of paying them off in time. His investors had disappeared. On the cusp of his 40th birthday, Bush had two choices: Cut his staff to the bone, hunker down and pray for oil prices to climb before the banks foreclosed; or find a bigger company that was willing to scoop him up, debts and all. "I'm all name and no money," the son of the then-vice president used to say. Bush's name, however, was to help rescue him, just as it had attracted investors and helped revive his flagging fortunes throughout his years in the dusty plains city of Midland. A big Dallas-based firm, Harken Oil and Gas, was looking to buy up troubled oil companies. After finding Spectrum, Harken's executives saw a bonus in their target's CEO, despite his spotty track record. By the end of September 1986, the deal was done. Harken assumed $3.1 million in debts and swapped $2.2 million of its stock for a company that was hemorrhaging money, though it had oil and gas reserves projected to produce $4 million in future net revenue. Harken, a firm that liked to attach itself to stars, had also acquired Bush, whom it used not as an operating manager but as a high-profile board member. "One of the reasons Harken was so interested in merging was because of George," said Paul Rea, a geologist who had been president of Spectrum 7. "They believed having George's name there would be a big help to them. They wanted him on their board." The buyout not only rescued Bush financially but gave him the collateral for an investment a few years later in the Texas Rangers baseball team that eventually made him a millionaire. In addition to the seat on the board, he received more than $300,000 of Harken stock, options to buy more, and a consulting contract that paid him as much as $120,000 a year in the late '80s, when he was working full time on his father's presidential campaign. It was one of the biggest breaks of Bush's life. Still, the Harken deal completed a disappointing reprise of what was becoming a familiar pattern. As an oilman, Bush always worked hard, winning a reputation as a straight-shooter and a good boss who was witty, warm and immensely likable. Even the investors who lost money in his ventures remained admirers, and some of them are now raising money for his presidential campaign. But the story of Bush's career in oil, which began following his graduation from Harvard Business School in the summer of 1975 and ended when he sold out to Harken and headed for Washington, is mostly about his failure to succeed, despite the sterling connections his lineage and Ivy League education brought him. Thanks to his and his family's ties to wealthy investors around the country, including prominent Republicans, Bush was repeatedly able to raise money to invest in oil drilling, especially when prices were booming and tax breaks were inviting in the late 1970s. But connections could not help with the tricky business of picking profitable holes to drill, and Bush never made a big score. In fact, Bush lost money for most of his well-connected investors. At the same time, the management fees and other expenses he collected from them kept him in business and enabled him to buy oil reserves for his company's own account, including the reserves that eventually attracted Harken's attention. Three times during his years in Midland, Bush was saved from financial trouble or stagnation by the appearance of new partners or financial angels who gave him a fresh start. One was a Princeton classmate and friend of James A. Baker III, who was to serve as his father's secretary of state; another was a fellow Yale man who shared Bush's love for baseball. The third was Harken, which was to save Bush from humiliating failure but also create a target for later criticism. Reporters would scrutinize the deal as early as 1990. Led by then-Texas Gov. Ann Richards, Bush's opponent in the 1994 gubernatorial election, his political critics have asked whether Harken used Bush's name to obtain oil business. Even now, questions linger about a 1990 sale of Harken stock by Bush that was the subject of a probe by the Securities and Exchange Commission. When it was
[CTRL] California explosives theft probed
-Caveat Lector- http://www.msnbc.com/msn/347663.asp California explosives theft probed Second large heist in a month worries law enforcement agencies MSNBC staff and wire reports Dec. 29 - As a private New Year's Eve party in Seattle's Space Needle became the latest victim of millennial terrorism fears, investigators on Wednesday were looking for clues in the theft of 200 pounds of explosives from a police bunker in California - the second heist of large amounts of explosives this month. DYNAMITE, GUNPOWDER and the military plastic explosive C4 were stolen from a police bomb-squad bunker near Fresno, raising fears of New Year's Eve violence. But the blasting caps were left behind, prompting one expert to suggest there wasn't much to worry about. The explosives - 125 pounds of dynamite and C4, plus 75 pounds of gunpowder - were stolen between Saturday and Monday from the reinforced concrete bunker 20 miles northeast of Fresno. "We have a great concern, and we're not going to hide that concern," said Fresno Police Chief Ed Winchester. 'THREE LEVELS OF SECURITY' Police Lt. Andy Hall said the thieves broke through "three levels of security" - a fence topped with barbed wire, several locks and a heavy steel door - to gain entry to the bunker, which is half-embedded in a hill. "We don't know if it was connectedin any way to ... the New Year's Eve celebration, and we hate to speculate on anything like that. But we're certainly taking it as a breach of security and a high risk factor," he said. Despite the theft, Fresno Mayor Jim Patterson said the city's millennium celebrations will go on as planned. Authorities said the danger posed by the explosives would depend on the expertise of the thieves. Hall said a demolition expert could "take down a high-rise" with the amount of explosives taken. "But if you put it all in a box and set it next to a wall, it wouldn't do much other than to destroy some of that wall," he said. But Mark Loizeaux, president of Controlled Demolition Inc. in Maryland, said the danger was minimal since the blasting caps weren't stolen. 'CHILDISH PRANK' SUSPECTED "The people don't know what they were doing, or they certainly would have taken the detonators. It sounds like a childish prank," said Loizeaux, whose company has demolished more than 1,200 buildings. "The gasoline in your gas tank is technically more dangerous than this product, because you can set it off with a match." Last week, authorities reported that nearly 1,000 pounds of explosives were stolen from a flagstone quarry north of Flagstaff, Ariz. Investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms have not identified any suspects in the theft of about 750 pounds of ammonium nitrate, 225 pounds of dynamite, 6,000 feet of detonation cord and roughly 20 blasting caps. The materials are commonly used in mining, but also could be used to make a bomb, authorities said. Ammonium nitrate was the main ingredient in the 4,800-pound bomb used to blow up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in 1995, in which 168 people were killed. The Arizona theft has not been linked to any terroristic threat. But the amount of explosives taken - enough to level a high-rise - has raised concerns and suspicions. SEATTLE CANCELS CELEBRATION Such concerns on Tuesday caused the city of Seattle to cancel its planned New Year's Eve celebration, which had been expected to attract 50,000 people. Concern in the city has been growing since Dec. 14, when suspected terrorist Ahmed Ressam was arrested at the U.S.-Canadian border with alleged bomb-making materials packed into his rental car. Investigators found that Ressam, an Algerian who had been living in Canada, had booked a motel room within blocks of the Seattle Center. The decision to cancel the celebration at the city's Seattle Center claimed its final victim late Tuesday, when organizers of a private party planned for the Space Needle said they too were staying away. Party organizer Wendy Warren said the gala millennial event planned a decade earlier by a group of friends and family members from Portland, Ore., had been scrapped. She gave no reason for the decision, but other members of the group said fears of violence were behind the action. Dean Nelson, the president of the Space Needle Corp., told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, said he was "disappointed." He would not say how much Warren's group had spent to rent the Space Needle, nor would he say whether she would get any of her money back. Earlier Tuesday, Seattle Mayor Paul Schell defended his decision to cancel the city's New Year's Eve bash even though no specific threat to the city had been uncovered, saying, "Though we are comfortable that Seattle is not a target (of terrorists), the FBI can't assure us that there's no risk." Schell cited the Ressam's arrest two weeks earlier in nearby Port Angeles, Wash., the need to have police available to respond to possible Y2K computer problems and the

-Original Message- From: Brian Lantz "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"@wt.net To: Linda Minor [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Wednesday, December 29, 1999 3:54 PM Subject: Re: India hijacking - London's global "Operation Surety" Linda, Please circulate the attached, as you see fit. -Brian excerpt: In London, Abu Omar denied accusations that he was plotting a Millennium bombing campaign with bin Laden. Abu Omar, also known as Abu Qutada, said in an interview with The Observer newspaper he was committed to a global jihad, or holy war, to free Islamic countries from bad rulers, but had not been involved in any of the terrorist activities attributed to him. "I deny completely the Jordanian allegations. I don't head any organisation. I don't follow bin Laden. I am not one of his men. But I have no doubt that the Jordanian intelligence service wants me in person," Abu Qutada was quoted in The Observer. He said that he fled Jordan to Pakistan in 1989. Since arriving in Britain, Abu Qutada said, he had been teaching Islamic theology. "I've never been part of any organisation," he said. "My role here is studying Islam. I don't have [a] button to push to make terror happen." Officials here have said that the suspected terrorists were funded in particular by Abu Omar, believed to be bin Laden's right hand man. One official said Abu Omar "is a Jordanian, who entered Britain on a false passport and has since obtained political asylum there." "He was sentenced in Jordan in absentia in 1998 for involvement in a series of explosions, including one in the car park of a hotel" on April 30, 1998, the official said. The official also named the leader of the group as Khader Abu Ghoshar, who had also been jailed in Jordan in 1993 for involvement in bombings, before he benefited from a Royal amnesty earlier this year. The official said Abu Ghoshar received training in Afghanistan on the manufacture and handling of bombs. He set up a group called Jaish Mohammed (the army of Mohammed), made of veterans of the Afghan war, which was responsible for several explosions in Jordan. Bin Laden is accused of masterminding bombings at two U.S. embassies in Africa last year." The Kashmir terrorist group responsible for the five-day ongoing hijacking of an India Air jetliner, was profiled in detail in the EIR four years ago. The expose of Harkat-ul-mujahideen, previously known as Harkat-ul-ansar, was originally published in "New Terror International Targets South Asia," in the Oct. 13, 1995 issue of {EIR} (see p.|56). We reprint the text of the original introduction and dossier on the group from that EIR. It will also be reprinted in next week's EIR, as part of our coverage of the ongoing "Storm Over Asia" British-American- Commonwealth (BAC) destabilization, which Lyndon LaRouche detailed in the recently-released video by the same name. From the 1995 EIR Special Report: The major terrorist organizations inside Pakistan and in the northwestern areas of India, particularly in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir, are direct offspring of the afghansi operation, or have been built, in part, in reaction to it, as in the case of the Mohajir Quam Movement (MQM) in Pakistan. The primary target of the afghansi in the region currently is the Indian-held sections of Kashmir, where the British are hoping to instigate an all-out war between India and Pakistan, or to create an independent Kashmir, carved out of both India and Pakistan, which would give British intelligence a direct foothold in this strategically sensitive area that sits at the nexus of China, India, Afghanistan, Russia, and Pakistan. The Sikh Khalistani movement, which seeks to create an independent Sikh State out of India's breadbasket state of Punjab, also operated under the protective shield of the Anglo-American-backed afghansi. As the following profiles show, these terror-organizations operate either as direct subsidiaries of the "afghansi networks," or their support networks are based out of Canada and Great Britain. - Harkat-ul-Ansar - Name of group: Harkat-ul-Ansar (HUA). Headquarters: Mazaffarabad, in Azad Kashmir (Pakistani-held Kashmir). Offices also exist in Karachi, Lahore, Azad Kashmir, and Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Reportedly, it also has a Myanmar (Burma) and Tajikistan branch, and has been seen in Bosnia. Founded: Founded in 1980, in Karachi, to fight in Afghanistan. At the time of its inception, it was called the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen. In October 1993, it merged with the Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami to form the HUA. The unification occurred reportedly through the efforts of patrons from Saudi Arabia and Sudan. Locations of operations, areas active: At the time it was founded,

Well, one reason is so that the intelligence gathered may be placed into a "pool" of information thus eliminating the safeguards that are placed on agencies operating against their own citizens. Thus the NSA merely has to look at England's accumulated data on US and they can "truthfully" say that they were not operating outside of their charter. Re: [CTRL] FW: Tourists and Terrorists: Giuliani 2000
-Caveat Lector- Roofs in Times Square will be manned by crack teams of police snipers with night vision scopes mounted on their high-powered rifles. Every parked car in a mile long three block wide strip of midtown will be towed to prevent the deployment of car bombs. This is done every New Year in New York...for the past 20 years, midtown Manhattan's been closed to vehicular traffic on New Year's Eve, and cars are routinely towed that evening to make the streets clear not only for the revelers, but for security and emergency personnel to get thru. The fact that they are doing it again this year has nothing to do with Y2K, but SOP The party-going public will be herded cattle-like through an endless maze of police barricades and metal detectors and treated to body searches in below zero temperatures. None of the local media's mentioned metal detectors or body searches, neither did CNN in it's article on this on their website...but again, police barricades in Times Square on New Years Eve has been SOP for at least 20 years... Many attendees are expected to be arrested on the way to the event simply for possessing alcohol, a substance zero-tolerance Giuliani believes often leads to terroristic anti-social acts such as dancing, solicitation of prostitutes and public urination. This is bullshit. If you've ever been in midtown on St. Patrick's Day for the parade, you'd know that the city's anti-open-container- on-the-streets law is routinely ignored and just as routinely not enforced by the cops. I was almosted brained by a flying beer bottle one year, while a cop stood right by me and did nothing. I and my companion also almost had our legs cut by revelers smashing vodka and whiskey bottles on the pavement, and once again police were right there and did nothing... I've also done the Times Square thing on New Years Eve, twice in fact, and neither time was the open-container ordinance enforced...I don't see why the cops would change their SOP this year, especially since active enforcement would encourage a riot... Manhole covers will be welded shut. Already done. Every garbage can in midtown will be removed. Not that New Year's revelers utilize them anyways... Are the enormous expenses of this event and it's unprecedented and ultimately futile security precautions worth the economic and social cost to the taxpayers of New York City? Perhaps not...but going to Times Square for New Years is a long standing tradition that won't be stopped, no matter what... And not that I'm any fan of Giuliani's, but he was quoted in the article that is obviously being misquoted here as saying to the effect that if 2 million people were expected to attend, and the city then cancelled it, then 4 million people would show up... And that is very true...New Yorkers are a tough breed, and laugh at the prospect of 'foreign terrorists'... This is not a Presidential inauguration, the signing of an international peace treaty or anything of genuine public value that justifies either the cost or the risks involved. But all those Times Square revelers also spend quite a few dinaros in the city, which helps make up the cost...not to mention the public relations the city milks out of being almost the capital of New Years Eve celebrations... Watching the ball drop on New Year's Eve was once an authentic celebration by actual New Yorkers who traveled by subway from ethnic neighborhoods in all five boroughs. Bullshit. Not that city dwellers don't attend, but it's always been a mecca for out-of-town revelers, going back generations. My parents talked about attending (1930s and 1940s), and the first year I went (out-of-towner that I am), I met a middle-aged couple from the midwest, who'd been coming to Times Square to celebrate New Years Eve for every year since they first got married, in the early 1950s... No sane New Yorker would venture anywhere near midtown as Giuliani pulls the lever on his Police State 2000. Then you don't know New Yorkers... As the ball drops in Times Square on New Year's Eve let's hope we will be seeing the final curtain call in the career of Mayor Rudy Crueliani. As I said, I'm no fan of Giuliani, but this piece sounds like it was written by a troll from Hillary's camp...after all, Giuliani is her main opponent... -Caveat Lector- From: "Tatman, Robert" [EMAIL PROTECTED] If I were infiltrating the United States with the mission of conducting terrorist operations, I sure as hell would not try to bring my own explosives across the border in such a way that they would be found by a routine inspection. I don't understand why any halfway intelligent terrorist would plan something at this time, anyway...considering how security was going to be on a heightened alert heading into the holiday season, if _I_ was a terrorist intent on a SUCCESSFUL act of terrorism, I would either choose another time of year, or have infiltrated my agents into the country and provided them with their supplies months in advance... I definitely wouldn't have them making such open and obvious movements as the guys who were arrested at the border...especially considering how sparse the Canadian border is patrolled by the INS, it would have been a piece of cake to smuggle both people and explosives into the country in a remote area, especially during the autumn 'leaf peeper' season in September and October... This whole thing smells like a setup to me...either a sting run by the FBI and the RCMP, or (more likely) a snark hunt designed to feed "terrorist hysteria" in both the U.S. and Canada. [CTRL] Fwd:(Gold-Eagle)-Y2K Damn Y2K, Full Spin Ahead---via MT.
-Caveat Lector- Y2K Damn Y2K, Full Spin Ahead You have to give Kossi the Klown his due. The good news is that his disinformation campaign has succeeded brilliantly and thus prevented panic. The bad news is that his disinformation campaign has succeeded brilliantly and thus prevented any effective national or international preparation. Too bad for Kossi the Klown et al, the computer code doesn't care. In eight days Y2K's ruthless reality will strike without mercy, compassion or the slightest concern about Kossi's carefully crafted spin procedures. While America has slept kosiformed into a Rip Van Winkle sleep, Y2K has continued to unfold all around us. One wonders if Admiral Dewey's famous, "Damn the Torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead" would be used to describe American go gettism, if the torpedoes had wiped out his fleet, like the Dutch World War Two Admiral Doorman's was. The Dutch Admiral ignored warnings about the Japanese Lance torpedo, with a range of 10,000 yards, and promptly got his fleet wiped out. American go gettism is a national trait that has many merits; indeed, it is ingrained into the national psyche of Americans. Unfortunately, every so often this American go gettism leads to disaster, as in Custer and the Little Big Horn type. Y2K was very susceptible to American go gettism several years ago. Now it is not. With 8 days left, it's time to finally face reality. This essay will again cover the international Y2K situation, with a comparison to the corporate whore press. Yes, I know it's not nice to call them corporate whores, except they are. Just as my GAO report I will go case by case over two recent mainstream press reports on global Y2K readiness. I look at the data. They look at the data. I reach conclusions based on the logic of the evidence. They waffle. They wiffle. They waddle. And they have the nerve to call this journalism? I call it moral cowardice and intellectual dishonesty, wrapped in an arrogant liberal smugness. The American news media is like a smoke detector with dead batteries. No one cares because it looks like the smoke detector is ok-until a fire starts and people die. The first article appeared in USA Today, the mcnugget of newspapers, on December 6th, 1999 in the section entitled "The World Report." The headline was "Y2K bug predicted to bite here and there." Well, for starters it will bite everywhere. The sub headline was "Analysis: Computer failures most likely in Ukraine, Russia, China, Indonesia; unlikely in Britain, Canada, Australia and Singapore." Seems like that implies everywhere else will be ok, which is not a factual statement. There are entire continents, Africa, South America and Asia where significant Y2K effects are almost certain. The intellectual dishonesty starts right with the headline. The headline should have read, "Outside of Britain, Canada, Australia, Singapore and the United States, computer failures likely." BSC consulting lists England and Australia as questionable. And if these two "well prepared countries are questionable then so is the United States. Of course that might freak out the soccer moms and cause a panic. Kossi the Klown doesn't want us to panic even though a terrorist was busted in Port Angeles with 180 pounds of Urea and timers. Kossi doesn't want us to panic even though Y2K will have documented severe global impact. One wonders exactly when Kossi the Klown wants us to panic? Certainly not 18 months ago when the panic might actually have led to people preparing in a somewhat rational way for Y2K. 70% say they will do nothing. Let the blood guilt be on Kossi's head, for he has lied to protect stock market capital instead of human capital. And for that, people will turn on him, will turn on the whole rotten elite, and rip them to pieces. The main article goes on with a litany of bizarre statements about Thai Buddhist calendars, US State Department useless chatter and a choice statement from a Colombian computer expert who worries about-you guessed it-a public panic. This in a country where dozens of Marines were slaughtered in a battalion strength rebel attack on a fortified Naval base, just a few miles from the Panama Canal. It seems to me that Colombians should be panicking, but there I go again. The article continues on about how Russia is likely to have "widespread telecommunications failures", but not to worry because the missiles won't launch and the reactors won't melt down. Most of our diplomats won't be there to find out firsthand since they are listed in a section called, "Diplomats Pulling Out." I'm reassured. There is a section on Indonesia that can only be described as comic relief. The headline is "Bank Prints 50 million rupiah." This being equal to an ounce of gold in American dollars. Couldn't resist this being Gold-Eagle.com. Officially, the 100,000 Rupiah note is worth three silver ounces, about $15, even though the article coyly admits that 25% of Indonesian banks closed, "some after bank runs." We're then

Re: [CTRL] Explosives found in alleged terrorist's car were RDX and HMTD
-Caveat Lector- RDX is going to be difficult to get in either country, smuggling could be a necessity depending on the available source. If I'm not mistaken urea is so common that it is even used to de-ice airplanes. Transporting large quantities of white powder across the border is going to be suspicious and provoke a search even if the substance is legal. These people were obviously setup by someone as a distraction. The RDX, which is commonly used to make plastic explosives, was found in a medicine bottle in Ressam's possession, sources told NBC News. I would certainly like to know the purity of the explosives that were found. If only trace amounts were found we can assume that it was provided by the government. "Tatman, Robert" wrote: -Caveat Lector- Even granting that he might have been a mule, it still makes no sense to me to try to bring the explosives into the U.S., when they are probably more available here than they are in Canada. That's why I think this whole deal is a snark hunt designed to fuel anti-terrorist hysteria. As for your other point, why, sir, it's *un-Amurrican* not to try to make a buck wherever you can! [CTRL] Bauer says ease CIA restrictions
-Caveat Lector- Well, good to know he is conforming so well to the "conservative" agenda. While we're at it let's lift all those darned old restrictions, like the proscriptions against human experimentation, and operations against people in the USA. They're just such a damned nuisance, after all if your "law abiding" you shouldn't care if they are peering into your home and private life, should you? Remember that recent ruling by the courts that the police don't need a search warrant to scan your house with an infrared or heat sensing device (in order to look for illegal "pot" growing). Never mind that they could just as easily see you and what you're doing at the same time, but that's not an invasion of privacy. . . certainly not. Bauer Urges Easing CIA Restrictions .c The Associated Press By MIKE GLOVER NEWTON, Iowa (AP) - Conservative activist Gary Bauer called Wednesday for easing restrictions on CIA operatives working to gather information abroad about terrorist groups. ``I don't understand many of the restrictions in place for the CIA,'' said Bauer. ``They've got the ability to discover in foreign countries what might be planned or what might be happening with certain terrorist groups.'' Bauer pointed to recent arrests made of people who crossed into the country carrying terrorist material as evidence that intelligence-gathering needs to be strengthened. ``There are a lot of bureaucratic hurdles that the agency had to jump though now that they didn't in the past,'' Bauer complained. This caused, he said, ``a very bad decline in the morale of the agents and the sense they had to be so careful about how they used informants ... that we were missing out of a lot of very important information. There have been a number of embarrassments lately.'' Former CIA director James Woolsey has complained that rules governing how foreigners are used as informants have become overly restrictive, preventing operatives from using as informants human rights violators. As he opened a two-day campaign swing in Iowa, where caucuses Jan. 24 launch the presidential nominating season, Bauer pointed to the border episodes as evidence that intelligence gathering is lacking. ``I think we've got to be more serious about securing our borders,'' said Bauer. Bauer said he spoke with Woolsey about the issue and shares his concern. ``In the last 20 years we've put restrictions on both the CIA and the FBI on what they are allowed to do to counter situations like this.'' Bauer said he favored the restrictions on the FBI, but argued for loosening procedures for CIA agents abroad. He quickly added that he favors a ban on the CIA operating domestically. The CIA rejects suggestions that the restrictions interfere with intelligence gathering. Bauer's comments came during a town meeting in this city 35 miles east of Des Moines, attending by 10 supporters. Bauer is seeking the GOP presidential nomination and most of his rivals have taken the holidays off. The campaign was to underscore his commitment, Bauer argued. ``I decided I would work harder than anybody else,'' said Bauer, who conceded he had concerns about scheduling a campaign trip during the busy holiday season. ``I was afraid I'd be talking to myself,'' said Bauer. Most people have always lived in extended families since before we came down from the trees. And those extended families then gathered into 'tribal' units, called villages and towns. Deposition by president's mother raises questions about his role © 1999 WorldNetDaily.com Did Bill Clinton influence the Arkansas medical examiner in 1981 to ignore available evidence and instead make his autopsy findings favor Clinton's mother, a nurse-anesthetist embroiled in two accidental hospital deaths and a wrongful death lawsuit? A new Arkansas scandal book sheds light on Bill Clinton's mother, Virginia Kelley, and the role she played in the deaths of two women at a Hot Springs hospital in 1978 and 1981. Laura Slayton died in 1978 while Kelley was providing anesthesia. Susie Deer died in 1981 because of Kelley's alleged incompetence. "The Boys on the Tracks," written by Arkansas Times columnist Mara Leveritt, deals with the mysterious murders of two teenage boys in 1987, but it also focuses on Virginia Kelley's involvement in two cases of negligent homicide. Leveritt points the finger at Dr. Fahmy Malak, Arkansas' former medical examiner who conducted the autopsies on the teenage boys and also absolved Kelley of responsibility for the death of Susie Deer. Clinton had hired Malak during his first term as governor and protected the medical examiner from being removed -- until he launched his presidential bid. Incompetence and death Virginia Kelley, now deceased, was a nurse-anesthetist who worked at Ouachita Memorial Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark. in the late '70s and early '80s. In 1981, Kelley was named in a lawsuit over the death of Laura Lee Slayton, who died in 1978 while undergoing minor surgery at Ouachita. Kelley was the anesthetist during the surgery. The surgeon was also sued for failing to properly supervise Kelley. Eventually, Slayton's family dropped the case against the surgeon, while Kelley settled out of court and paid the family $90,000 in damages. In June 1981, just two months after the Slayton lawsuit was filed, Kelley became embroiled in a second hospital death. This time it involved a 17-year-old mother. Susie Deer had been riding in the back of a car when someone in the car yelled a racial epithet at Billy Ray Washington, a black man, and his wife who were walking home. In retaliation, Washington picked up a chunk of concrete and threw it through the back window of the car, hitting Deer in the face. Deer was admitted to the hospital and underwent surgery to repair broken teeth and injuries to her face. Three hours into the operation, Virginia Kelley was asked by her surgeon to transfer an oxygen tube from Deer's nose to her throat. According to Leveritt, after Kelley inserted the tube into her throat, vomit began coming up through the tube. The surgeons realized she had put the tube down into Deer's stomach instead of her lungs. Kelley tried at least twice to correct her mistake, but couldn't do it. Dr. James Griffin took over for her. By that time Deer had gone into cardiac arrest, and died an hour later. Deer's death had to be investigated, and the findings of the medical examiner, "were going to be very important to Virginia Kelley's career," according to Leveritt. Then-Arkansas Medical Examiner Dr. Fahmy Malak performed the autopsy on Deer and ruled that she had died of blunt trauma to the head.

Mad Cow, Brain Disease Said Linked .c The Associated Press BY PAUL RECER WASHINGTON (AP) - A laboratory experiment gives powerful new evidence that an infectious protein that causes mad cow disease also causes a new type of fatal human brain disease that has killed 51 people in Europe. The study, appearing Tuesday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, makes clear that people in Britain who developed a new type of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease could have gotten it from eating meat from cattle infected with bovine spongiform encephalopathy, the so-called mad cow disease. The brain disease has not been found in America. Experts said the study also suggests the infectious protein, called prion, that causes the diseases can move more easily between species more easily than once believed. ``These findings argue unequivocally that BSE and the new variant CJD are the same strain of prion,'' said Dr. Stephen DeArmond, a researcher at the University of California, San Francisco, and a senior author of the study. An outbreak of BSE occurred in British cattle early this decade. Later, some people in Britain developed a new, more deadly type of the Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. In 1996, experts suggested mad cow disease possibly could be linked to the brain-wasting human disease. The European Union banned import of British beef for three years until last August. France still denies import of the meat. Officials in Britain banned sale of bone-in domestic beef in 1997 and lifted the sanction last Thursday. More than 175,000 British cattle died of BSE during the 1990s. At least 48 people in Britain have died of the new form of CJD, along with two in France and one in Ireland. Neither disease has been detected in the United States. Although a link between mad cow disease and the new type of CJD had been suggested, there were experts who questioned the connection and contended a true scientific link was lacking. The new San Francisco study virtually removes doubt, said Dr. Donald Price, a neurological disease researcher at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. ``This lends new credence to the idea that the new variant CJD is a direct result of consuming products from animals with BSE,'' Price said Monday. ``It is something the European community should be concerned about.'' Officials for the British health and agricultural departments in London declined comment Monday, saying they have not yet read the new study. Since the new form of CJD is thought to have an incubation period of at least 10 years, experts say it is impossible to know now how many people have been infected. Co-authors of the study include Dr. Stanley Prusinger, a UCSF professor who won a Nobel Prize in 1997 for his discovery that the protein prion caused BSE. In the study, researchers created a strain of mice that had genes for the normal form of bovine prion protein. The mice were inoculated with prions taken from diseased cows. After 250 days, the test mice all developed neurological disease. In another group of the mice, the researchers injected priors taken from patients who had the new form of CJD. After 250 days, these mice also developed neurological disease. Prions from the diseased mice were then injected into a third group of mice. They also developed the disease. DeArmond said the mice with the disease had identical symptoms and incubation periods. Also, a microscopic examination of their brains found the same type of lesions. In CJD, the brain is pocked with holes caused by the death of cells. Mice injected with scrapie, a sheep form of prion disease, got neurological disease, but it was different from the infection linked to BSE, researchers said. BSE is thought to have developed in British cattle whose feed contained protein from sheep that had been infected with scrapie. Britain now bans the use of animal parts in cattle feed. In the United States, the FDA issued a similar ban in 1997. Prions, a name that stands for ``infectious particles,'' usually are normal proteins found in most mammals. But when the prion shape is changed - either from infection or from contact with another malformed prion - the particle can cause brain disease. Because it attacks the brain, symptoms can include bizarre behavior in animals. For this reason, BSE is often called ``mad cow disease. AP-NY-12-20-99 1614EST ** *** "Welcome

It will be worse. A couple of years ago, I put forward the idea that the combined effects of Y2K and the collapse of the stock market bubble would lead to a devolutionary spiral, somewhat analogous to the fall of the Roman Empire and the beginning of the dark ages. At the end of one of these articles I concluded Of course, I could be wrong. It could be worse In another article I showed, mathematically, that the Y2K problem could never be completely solved and that the residual failures resulting from the fixes themselves would be enough to cause significant economic impacts, even without failures from all of the unfixed systems. I also predicted, perhaps overoptimistically, that the stock market bubble would burst in the first quarter of 1999. I hereby admit I was wrong. It will be worse. I was wrong about the timing of that collapse, but not about the state of Y2K or about the eventual crash of bubble.com. I am so very, very sorry it didn't collapse when I predicted. Not because I want it to happen, but because the delay means that the final crash will indeed be much, much worse than it needed to be. If the market collapse had occurred at the end of 1998 or beginning of 1999, as it logically should have, there would have been a full year for everyone to revise their expectations and to make major economic, budgetary and business planning changes before Y2K itself slams us in the first quarter of 2000. A collapse back then could still have been partially controlled, the market did not have so far to fall, and the first business failures and unemployment situations could have been handled with a mostly functional infrastructure and support systems. In short, we would have been forced (and able) to make realistic, useful contingency plans instead of relying on the nonsensical, irrational and mathematically impossible concept that Y2K has actually been fixed. It is now completely inevitable that Y2K and the bursting of bubble.com will occur at one and the same time, leading rapidly to a new Great Depression far worse, far deeper and far longer lasting than that of the 1930's. Because of the confluence of these and other events, I am now also convinced that we will also see a complete breakdown of the global monetary system, a series of vicious dictatorships and, within ten years, World War Three. Instead of 66% over fifty years, I now expect more than 90% of the world population will die within the next ten years. But, again, it could be worse. If a major nuclear exchange cannot be avoided in World War Three, the human race will quite simply cease to exist. Under present global political conditions, I consider this to be a very real possibility, if not yet a probability. Either way, as a species, we have lost our one chance to get off this planet and to survive, long term, as a civilized race among the stars. (I am referring here to my own Devolution theory, to the Olduvai theory, to astronomer Hoyle's similar theory, and to other scientifically based approaches which predict that we have only one shot at developing a successful technology based civilization). I know this will likely get the pollys jumping up and down on their perches but, frankly my dear, I don't give a damn. The time for debate ended about a year ago and there is no longer any useful purpose to be served in countering the polly arguments -- their damage has already been done, the lives of innocents have already been recklessly endangered, and previously possible recovery efforts have already been sabotaged by the shortage of bits in their processors. We'll let them squawk later, when we clean out their cage in the bubblegate trials. Until then remember that, although able to repeat complex sentences over and over again when carefully taught, polly's comprehension of the related subject matter is limited by an intellectual capacity roughly equivalent to that of a three year old child. To regular readers, who know that I rarely insult my opponents, I apologize for the above. I also apologize to my own parrot for dragging him down to this level. But, after all the vicious attacks so many of the pollys have made on me over the last few years, just for once, I couldn't resist the temptation. It's about as close as I normally get to losing my temper, so please forgive me, because this article is not aimed at them but

MICHAEL SPITZER wrote: -Caveat Lector- [This x-post begins with some relevant questions by a member of another list. --MS] --begin forward-- There's a legal finesse-point or two that I don't pretend to understand here. Tripp maintains she didn't know that what she was doing was not protected (Maryland's law, from what I've read, immunizes those who don't comprehend the illegality of recording). Today's testimony clarifies this not at all. If she were counseled that the "grant of immunity... would make it difficult for any state prosecutor to use her recorded conversations as evidence in a criminal proceeding", then it would sensibly seem to be a get-out-of-jail-free card for Tripp. Bennett testified, "[We made] the task (of state prosecution) insurmountable." Certainly this testimony would argue *against* the hysteric "Hung Out To Dry!" headline on Drudge. Unless I'm missing something. Secondly, Tripp's recording always (as far as I know) crossed State lines and would therefore seem to be a Federal issue, over which Starr's office's immunity grant would seem to be unequivocal. Could somebody please explain why this isn't a slam-dunk for Tripp? --Scott J. From: http://news.excite.com/news/r/991213/14/clinton-scandal-tripp Starr staffers say Tripp not guaranteed protection Updated 2:20 PM ET December 13, 1999 By David Morgan ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (Reuters) - Linda Tripp, whose secretly recorded phone conversations with Monica Lewinsky led to President Clinton's impeachment, was never guaranteed protection against state charges she violated Maryland's wiretap laws, an independent counsel's office lawyer said Monday. Investigators from the office of former independent counsel Kenneth Starr instead offered the former White House secretary a grant of immunity that they believed would make it difficult for any state prosecutor to use her recorded conversations as evidence in a criminal proceeding. "We told her the state of Maryland was a separate sovereign (from the federal government) and that they may ultimately be able to return an indictment against her," Stephen Binhak, a federal prosecutor attached to Starr's office, testified at the start of a hearing in Howard County Circuit Court that will determine whether Tripp should be tried on two criminal counts of violating the Maryland wiretap statute. Jackie Bennett, the Starr deputy who signed Tripp's immunity letter, said, "What we could do, and intended to so, and did do, was to make the task (of state prosecution) insurmountable." Tripp secretly taped more than 20 conversations in which Lewinsky discussed her illicit affair with Clinton. Some were taped from Tripp's Maryland home, violating the state law that makes it a crime to record telephone conversations unless all parties consent to it. The best form of protection Tripp could hope for, Binhak said, was a grant of federal immunity "that would make it extraordinarily difficult, if not impossible for the state of Maryland to use those tapes in the prosecution of a criminal case." Binhak, one of four former Starr staffers to take the stand Monday, testified that "Mrs. Tripp was not grasping the technicalities" of her legal situation when she first met at her home with four members of Starr's staff around midnight on Jan. 12, 1998. But now, nearly two years later, that same distinction could be crucial for the Columbia, Maryland, woman who faces up to five years in prison and $10,000 in fines on each count if convicted. Howard County Circuit Judge Diane Leasure was expected to rule in open court Tuesday morning as to whether Tripp's immunity began on Jan. 16, when Starr's office gave her a letter of immunity and subpoenaed her tape-recordings of conversations with Lewinsky, or on Feb. 19, when it was officially ordered by a federal judge in Washington. Tripp's attorneys, who want the case dismissed, claim her immunity protection began on the earlier date. If Leasure agrees, prosecutors will lose a crucial piece of evidence, namely a taped conversation with Lewinsky from Dec. 22, 1997. Tripp is charged specifically with making the tape and sharing its contents with a reporter from Newsweek magazine. On Monday, Tripp was absent from court but submitted a sworn affidavit maintaining that she would never have come forward with her evidence against Clinton without Starr's immunity letter and the

OBVIOUSLY, GOOD answers to this question will ONLY be of interest/value over the next several days, i.e., now is the time to pose your answers/opinions, because in a few days thru the next 10 months, wellall this will be HIND SIGHT! -Caveat Lector- -- Forwarded message -- Date: Wed, 29 Dec 1999 13:02:00 -0500 From: John Hammell [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Bovine Scatology or Truth?: Infomagic's Final Y2K Declaration Experienced Programmer Outlines, In Detail, How We've Been Lied To What the Consequences Will Likely Be... http://x26.deja.com/threadmsg_if.xp?AN=565458822CONTEXT=946339034.1942290455thitnum=6 IAHF LIST: The article on the website above was written by a very experienced computer programer using the pseudonym "infomagic" who was working on y2k repairs until it became apparent to him that his efforts were futile due to managements and politicians arrogant unwillingness to focus on contingency planning, but to instead conclude that the impossible was possible: that a complete repair was the only acceptable thing to shoot for. This has resulted in massive lies being told by people trying to protect their jobs, as Infomagic reveals in detail.bolditalicunderlineHE/underline/italic/bold was bolditalicunderlineasked to lie at one point/underline/italic/bold by someone trying to protect their job, and he explains in detail, how we are ALL being lied to, how the percentages we're being quoted are meaningless...how the numbers are being cooked in order to deceive. When it became apparent to him that it was morally wrong to even work on y2k repairs that had no chance to succeed, in which people were being massively conned by constant lying, and in which they should have been working on contingency plans, but weren't- Infomagic disappeared for a year, choosing to simply try to enjoy life despite what he sees, and has only returned to issue this final statement. What this experienced programmer relates here is not for the faint of heart. It is the most horrificly detailed doomsday article on y2k that I've ever read, but none of us can affort NOT to read it because Infomagic is obviously speaking the plain unvarnished truth about how we've been lied to, and what the consequences will be. In a nutshell, infomagic says that he originally erred in estimating the timing of the breaking of the stockmarket bubble which he previously thought would have happened by now, which he feels wouldn't have been as bad. Now he feels that it will coincide with with y2k, to have a far worse over all impact. Further, he feels that on top of y2k we have a problem that he calls the "GO Crisis" or Gold/Oil Crisis, which he describes in detail. In a nutshell, what he's saying is that the Arabs won't accept our dollars or any other currency not backed by gold. They want GOLD, which we no longer have to pay them, and when we wouldn't pay them in Gold back in '73, it prompted the oil embargo that we had at that time. He's saying that none of the world's currencies are backed by Gold, but that the Arabs insist on it, and he feels this is leading up to an inevitable WWIII which will be triggered by the horrible economic conditions soon to arise from y2k,as well as by the lack of available gold. He feels that in 10 years, 90% of the world's population is likely to be wiped out by the coming melt down, war, and by plagues resulting from lack of sanitary drinking water, lack of sewage treatment, nuclear accidents and strikes, chemical plant failures, and the huge number of corpses. Bovine Scatology or Truth? You be the judge. After reading this, I'm going back out to stock up on even MORE food and other supplies. It takes a LOT to get me rattled, and THIS REALLY HAS. [CTRL] Mike: my opinion of the INTERESTING TIMES
-Caveat Lector- Mike: If you want my opinion regarding the next three months--and based on my rather extensive research and intellect (that's for you, June :-))--the answer is simple: we are likely to experience the "blooming" of every imaginable kind of nut-case, both inside and out of various circles of power, popping up like mushrooms on a damp river bed. The pandemonium that I expect will make any potential glitches in computers look like a cake walk. The next six months will be the time when "the powers that be" will instigate and initiate whatever it is that they have in store for us by whatever fantastic means that they have at their disposal. What you are looking at, sir, is the temporal equivalent of the metaphorical and literal "critical mass" of all current conspiracy theory. Whatever it is, if there actually is an "it," will be brought to fruition during this time. So will be the efforts of many to resist, again by whatever means, all real and imagined tyranny resulting from the aforementioned "it." That these times will be interesting is an understatement of egregious magnitude! :-) If ever there were a time for each member of the human race to do their own thinking, now is it. Now, I'm going to this site to find out whatever has gotten you so upset. Re: [CTRL] [MC] Possession and Black Magic
-Caveat Lector- M: About possession -- I have some thoughts on this. I feel you may be wrong Marcel -- the possession may be very voodou-ish. However, I look at this thing differently too in ways -- as I am a strong believer in the fact that "they" (whether voodou cult or other satanic cult or Crowley satanic cult or good ole boys cult,ie., freemason ilk, ) -- no matter which group may have targeted and is using the person, they seem to employ the same CIA-early on, weapons - buddies - psycho-drugs - and usurping of victim's resources as all usually victims usually relate to. The reason I say it may be very voodouish -- is that all the elements really do point to this I know. And, pardon my anger, not directed towards Blacks NOT affiliated with the Company (CIA) and in the pimp realm. This info comes from my experience knowing an international paramilitary group ("Arian") for a year -- the paramilitary group I knew USED black CIA contacts and black front men to stalk, stage extended victim residence assaults, they used black guys to handle physical mind control programming sessions, they used black people in hospitals to harm victims and guard them in the facilities -- they used black nurses and orderlies to bring in implant stuff and take out body organ material to other places (unknown). Blacks were VERY involved in the staging of mind control victim's assaults -- VERY involved. They were seen by neighbors outside my residence stalking it as major chemical violence erupted against me in 1994 - 1995 -- they assaulted me physically IN my residence for a full year -- and yet, I had a good black friend from the Bronx come to my aide at one point too -- someone I had trusted 7 years. But, back to voodou -- a great deal about Haitian and other Caribbean rituals fits the sort of assaults these victims encounter. The Caribbean rituals of Santeria are the overarching rituals which set the stage for mind control assaults and the CIA was studying these early on in the 40s, I believe according to G. Thomas. Santeria has two forms of magic -- white-black or black-black. The black-black is the more malign and intensely chaotic-violent form -- a death format. Ruthless psychological take-overs of their beings by outsiders -- is part of the possession stuff. Of course most of this possession stuff could be accomplished with drugs. And a great deal could be accomplished with implants and remote-feeds into them. I remember 3 years ago doing this extensive look at Santeria -- realizing that this stuff fit mind control victim's scenarios and only recently re-visiting it, believing that it was still very relevant. Santeria is the basis of New Orleans voodou cult workings, realize. And torture is the underlying precept to the sexual nature of murder. Some mind control victims are probably linked through implants on telepathy feeds to creatures of the deep and humans who LIKE the frequency sends OFF Of the implants -- this may be sexual for them -- so victims may wind up tortured so that the creatures (human or not) get the good feelings. This is the principal behind "snuff videos" -- they use badly implanted victims in horrendously painful deaths (using chain saws, etc.) on them -- and the "sends" off of the implants s these victims die is sexual for the person watching the video. See Videodrome film. All of this may well be part of the Caribbean ritual system -- the implants (some of which may be organic and have been used for centuries, others may be of exotic materials) -- and may have been used in Africa and Europe, as well as throughout N.A. -- brought over by slaves. Then distributed throughout Caribbean. Santeria goes back at least 150 years, past that I am not sure. While mixed with elements of Christianity -- it was not originally probably ever originally connected to this religion, but pagan in origin, as my research says. -- The CIA, it appears -- founded its horrendously psychotic drug image -- upon that of black pimps -- who were USING the Santeria cult's secretive drugs and some of these mind control tactics (later mixed probably with Chinese brainwashing and Nazi brainwashing tactics) for crowd control and victim control. Pimps were probably using implants as ways to own and control prostitutes they coveted. But once the CIA saw the clandestine drugs (NOT narcotics but obcession drugs, control drugs, hallucinogens, and sex drugs -- like steroids) that cults had access to, and the money people would pay for this stuff on the outside to set up their lives, the CIA saw a huge, and consistent income as well as a control network upon which to build their empire. In this vein, probably a whole new crime syndicate evolved after WWII -- maybe much earlier -- even around revolutionary war times -- in U.S. Blacks may have been enslaved in fact because of their personal "possession" of the devil, as whites perceived this early on. And enslaved by white society because elements in the
