Re: [CTRL] OEN 4/17/00
Has there ever been a movie made about the 'Holocaust' "sufferers" who were sold out by their own people, namely the Kapos that ruled over the ghettos and the camps? The folks that were sort of intermediaries between the 'campers' and the camp 'management'? I can't seem to recall where I discovered this complicity between those at the medium to higher echelons of the power structure ... it may have been even in the print version of *Schindler's List* or maybe in some books I read while in Germany between visits to some of the camps. Having been an incarceree at one point of my life (19 hours too long for a few too many drinks before driving), I was able to observe the pecking order in the local hoosegow. There are the inmates and then above them are the inTImates, named 'trustees' for their trustworthiness to the jailers. Of course, who at the bottom gives information to the 'trustees' who may in turn pass it on to the jailers? Wasn't there long enough to find out but I can understand how that sort of thing might just happen -- the jailers' agents on the inside. 'Translators' after a fashion. Seeing and being in the 'camps' gave me a sense of deja vu all over again. Although the WW2 and my specific situations were generations and cultures apart, there are comparisons and similarities between the two, foremost among them the profound sense of isolation and helplessness when deprived of personal liberty with the future uncertain, being at the mercy of the keepers AND the inmates, as well as realising there's a whole 'nother set of rules (protocol) (regarding even the simplest things like processes of elimination) on the inside. What seems ironic to me is all this finger-pointing at only the highest layers of the hierarchy when even the ones who work both ends from the middle just might have been the master link in the chain, which, if removed, would have rendered the machine idle and useless. But who would sacrifice that one essential link for the sake of the many? Who could suggest that a soul (or cell) mate would be a judicial ('Juden'?) Judas? AER How dare you diminish the market value of Swindler's List. All they need is a good national emergency and people will line up for new IDs and the system is already present to do it through DMVs. SCAN THIS NEWS July 4, 1999 THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL ID PLAN This article memorializes, for posterity sake, the establishment of the national identification system in America. A lot of people, just now being confronted with the national ID laws, are quick to blame President Clinton. He certainly is an easy target. But the reality is that the Republicans are solely responsible for these programs, as you will see below. How The Republicans Implemented the Democrats' National ID Plan An Historical Account By Scott McDonald http://www.networkusa.org/fingerprint/page1/fp-republican-id-plan.html One day, in the not too distant future, a generation of Americans is going to wake up and ask: "How did we become shackled with a government that tracks, monitors, regulates, controls, and dictates our every move?" Let the historical record show, it was the Republican-led Congress implementing the Democrat's "locating and tracking" database program that resulted in the U.S. national identification system. Just how did this massive control mechanism get established? And, who were the key players? For a clue, their first names were: Bob, Newt, Bill, and Patsy -- with honorable mention for Rush. It all came about rather gradually beginning in 1994 -- the political period referred to as the "Republican Revolution." It happened during a time when the nation's attention was diverted to such trivial issues as funding for free school lunch programs. It began when the Republicans in Congress proudly and pompously announced, in a huge ceremony held on the front steps of the U.S. Capitol Building, that they were implementing their "Contract With America." Under the "Contract," the Republican Congress enacted not one, but TWO national ID laws. The "Welfare Reform Act of 1996" and the "Illegal Immigration Reform Act of 1996" both included requirements which, in application, constitute a national identification system. Together, these two laws made up the foundational backbone -- and provided the financial impetus -- for the most massive national identification system ever devised by mankind. These two programs are now being implemented throughout America. As a result, everyone is required to identify themselves using a social security number in order to engage in virtually all societal activities. Consequently, SSNs are now required as a condition to drive, work, fly, bank, get married, get divorced, hunt, fish, buy stock, obtain insurance, get born, and even to die. These two laws are in addition to the health care reform measures, also enacted under the Republican Congress, which are resulting in massive database systems that will be used to exchange private information about citizens, all linked to one's social security number. How could such Draconian laws get enacted with little or no meaningful public debate? No small amount of blame must go to the diversionary antics of the immensely popular, pseudo-conservative, part-time comedian, Republican mouthpiece, radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh. For, it was he who, on cue from Newt Gingrich, effectively distracted an otherwise concerned and otherwise trusting populace with relentless babble and mindless chatter. All that was ever discussed on his weekday program was whether or not the Republican's Welfare Reform plan included a "spending increase," a "spending decrease," or simply a "decrease in the proposed increase." Occasionally, Rush would also complain about Clinton's threat to veto the great Republican overhaul bill because it did not include enough money for free school lunch programs. Clinton followed through with his threat, by the way, but that obviously is not the end of the story. Meanwhile, Congress was busy enacting the most sophisticated -- most horrendous -- locating, tracking, and identification system ever suffered under by mankind. None of this was ever once so much as mentioned by the celebrity who's most bragged-about credential is that half 'his brain encumbered. DETAILED HISTORY OF THE LOCATING AND TRACKING LAWS The national "locating and tracking" system, (by the way, that's how it's referred to in the Act), began as the "Child Support

Photos of Area 51, the super-secret Air Force test site in Nevada that has long tantalized UFO and conspiracy buffs and fans of ``The X-Files,'' are being posted on the Internet. ``This is the first glimpse into the most secret training and testing facility for the Air Force,'' said John Hoffman, president of Aerial Images Inc. of Raleigh. The company planned to post five images of the site, divided into four frames each, in collaboration with Microsoft, Kodak, Digital Equipment Corp., Autometric Inc. and the Russian agency Sovinformsputnik. Speak your mind Discuss this story with other people.[Start a Conversation](Requires Yahoo! Messenger) The partners launched a Russian satellite from Kazahkstan in 1998 to map Earth's surface and Area 51. An open-skies agreement signed in 1992 by 24 nations, including the United States and Russia, made the effort possible. The Air Force only recently acknowledged that Groom Dry Lake Air Force Base even exists. The 8,000-square-mile base is 75 miles northwest of Las Vegas, in the arid, rugged Nellis Range. Beginning with the U-2 spy plane in the 1950s, the base has been the testing ground for a host of top-secret aircraft, including the SR-71 Blackbird and, more recently, the F-117A stealth fighter and B-2 stealth bomber. The base's airspace is restricted; aircraft are not allowed to fly over it. But satellite overflights are allowed as part of an agreement to verify arms-control compliance. Among UFO aficionados, it has long been known simply as Area 51, the base's designation on old Nevada test site maps. They believe that unidentified flying objects from other worlds are hidden at the base, where their parts are copied for U.S. prototypes. The images, with resolution good enough to distinguish a car from a truck, are better than earlier telephoto shots from the nearby mountains. The only other known image purportedly was shot by a satellite in the 1960s. It is much fuzzier. ``There are runways, there are buildings, there are buses, there are test sites, but there aren't any little green men or super-secret aircraft to be seen,'' Hoffman said of the new photos. Several government agencies are aware of the images and haven't responded, said Hoffman, 52, a Vietnam veteran who recently retired from the National Guard after 23 years. ``I've had no feedback from anybody that indicates anybody gives a hoot,'' he said. An Air Force spokeswoman would not comment Monday on any security concerns about the images. ``We acknowledge having an operating site there, and the work is classified,'' spokeswoman Gloria Cales said. The work involves ``operations critical to the U.S. military and the country's security.'' Aerial Images, at www.terraserver.com, planned to offer a link to the Area 51 pages. III. History of MK-ULTRA. CIA program on Mind Control. http://www.mindspring.com/~txporter/sec3.htm More articles here http://www.mindspring.com/~txporter/ - Started during WWII with research on hypnosis for interrogation, secure courier duties, and reducing fatigue. Also research into effects of primitive drugs like barbiturates and cannabis as far as drug-assisted interrogation goes. - George Estabrooks was the leading proponent of hypnosis as the be-all and end-all of manipulating peoples minds. His book, 'Hypnotism', published in the early forties, has been decried as too fantastic and improbable in terms of describing the capabilities of hypnosis with certain very suggestible subjects, but his arguments and examples remain valid to this day. Estabrooks admitted in 1971 to creating hypnotic couriers and programmed multiple personalities for Military Intelligence purposes in this 1971 Science Digest article. MUST READ!! - Start of Cold War and Korean War in particular gave a big boost to mind control research with the emergence of 'Brain Washing' as a common term. Supposedly a development of the dastardly Chi-Coms, the term was actually coined by a magazine writer later found to be on the CIA payroll as an agent of influence. Postulating a 'brainwashing gap' The CIA got the go-ahead for research into countering communist mind control efforts and developing their own to aid in the espionage wars. - Hypnosis, drugs, and psycho-surgery; separately and combined, were the tools of this quest for the ultimate truth serum on the one hand, and the capability to create an agent who could not have his or her mission tortured out of them, or even be aware that they were carrying secret information given to them in an altered state of consciousness. More and more sophisticated drugs were experimented with, such as LSD, Ketamine, and Psilocybine. Lobotomy and the implantation of electrodes were considered as methods for creating a compliant agent. Electro-Convulsive Shock, combined with LSD, sedation for days at a time, and constantly replaying the patient s own voice through helmet-mounted headphones was a notorious Canadian researchers recipe for mind control. - One of the most remarkable cases of mind control involves a famous model of the late 40's and 50's named Candy Jones. In the book, "The Control of Candy Jones" the author reviewed hours of tapes made by Candy Jones and her husband which revealed a systematic program to create and manipulate alter personalities as the foundation for programmed couriers resistant to torture, where the primary personality would not even be aware of the secret information being carried. The information could be summoned forth via a post-hypnotic command or response to a pre-programmed cue. - Research continued into early 70's by CIA's own admission during the Church hearings. John Marks, author of the best study of CIA mind control experiments, makes the subtle differentiation that the CIA congressional witnesses might truthfully say that all research done by the TSS Directorate had ended, since the programs were moved into other areas once operational techniques had been developed. Many of the names mentioned in reference to mind control research turn up in the few references to supposed dead-end research in ESP. - There have been persistent rumors of Navy research involving attempts at telepathy from submarines under water, the Nautilus being the most famous of these. Detection of enemy submarines, and communicating with our own, has continued to be an important area of conventional research for the Navy, so it is no surprise that researching the use of ESP for these purposes would be of interest. Communicating with a submerged submarine is the only kind of communications where the very act of receiving puts the receiver in danger, since submarines must normally stick an antenna out of the water for high speed radio traffic, or rely on trailing a long wire antenna under water relatively near the surface to receive very slow speed traffic using ELF radio waves. Newer techniques may involve the use of blue-green wavelength lasers, but evidently penetration to any depth is still a problem. If you look at telepathy as a problem in the transfer of information in a very noisy environment, then certain existing solutions suggest themselves: There have already been experiments in the transmission of five distinct symbols via telepathy, namely Zener card symbols. I suggest that there is already a way of transmitting information using two symbols only, namely Morse Code. Current ELF or VLF radio transmission methods for communicating with fleet ballistic missle submarines to issue them their launch orders involve very low data transfer rates, on the order of 3 to 30 bits per minute, if I am not mistaken. Messages are very short, consisting of pre-formulated action or targeting codes. I suggest that telepathic 'Zener Morse' is an operational technique for information
[CTRL] About the Controllers by Martin Cannon.
VI. The Controllers by Martin Cannon. http://www.mindspring.com/~txporter/sec6.htm One of the better discussions of current government mind control research is "The Controllers" by Martin Cannon. This monograph, over sixty pages in length, makes an excellent case that some alien abduction reports are merely the results of screen memories created by government researchers to cover up their mind control activities. The recurring problem, mentioned many times in John Mark's book "The Search for the Manchurian Candidate", has been the difficulty in finding subjects that would not discuss their participation in secret experiments after they were completed. Military personnel could be ordered not to, assuming they remembered any details of their experience. Involuntary or civilian subjects could not be handled so easily. Cannon makes a good case for the creation of screen memories as a way to handle the "experiment termination" problem. If total amnesia was introduced, subjects would have lost time to account for, and the human mind is resilient enough to try to fill in the details in such an obvious gap. Furnishing screen memories of alien abductions tends to: A. fill that gap, B. test the effectiveness of techniques for creating screen memories, and C. steer the subject away from discussing their experiences due to the ridiculous nature of their "memories". Without going into too much detail, Cannon makes a good case for his hypothesis, based on anachronistic and out of character features found in many abduction accounts. He has a mass of supporting evidence demonstrating the current state of research being easily capable of generating such screen memories with the use of drug-augmented hypnosis. Current miniaturization of Virtual Reality gear means that a person could be presented with convincing images and sounds of alien beings and spaceships, all while under the effects of hallucinogenic/sedative/psychomimetic drugs. An interesting portion of Cannon's monograph deals with the recurring mixture of references to psychic phenomena and military involvement in many abduction cases. This work is well worth reading. [CTRL] Dr J Mack Bud Hopkins dialogue 2/2
Dr J Mack Bud Hopkins dialogue 2/2 http://www.alienjigsaw.com/Part_II/victor.html Five Areas of Focus Dr. Mack suggests five areas around which to focus our deepening appreciation for this experience. The first of these he calls the event level. By this he means that whatever occurs is assuredly intrusive in nature and very real to experiencers, yet so reality-shattering to everyone else as to be utterly unbelievable by its very nature. The trauma is real, the event seems real, yet acceptance of it as real has not yet begun to take root among the vast majority. Despite what a large number of very credible and psychologically healthy individuals are reporting, the reality of what is occurring has not yet become integrated into our "current reality." Skepticism among the "compact majority" exist primarily because no objective proof exits beyond the human experiential reports of experiencers. Secondly, Dr. Mack refers to the informational nature of what is being reported to him by experiencers. Concerns about ecological damage to the environment, mind to mind contact and hybrid breeding, represent the type of information which is relayed by virtually all experiencers. It appears as if the alien beings are relaying to, or putting experiencers in touch with perceptions about the state of the world, altered forms of communication and hybrid breeding, for reasons that we as yet do not understand. Thirdly Dr. Mack alludes to the spirituality aspect of what these beings impart to experiencers. Experiencers report that in some manner, the aliens are introducing to them the need for humans to become more open to a sense of a universal Oneness, the Source, or God. The fourth component of Dr. Mack's outline describes the nature of the beings themselves as they relate to experiencers. Mack has discovered that as he works with abductees they seem to develop a closer, deeper and powerful relationship with the beings. As a result of his work with experiencers, Dr. Mack does not believe the aliens are either benign or benevolent. Dr. Mack goes on to more fully explain these components in the fifth segment of his outline. Fifth, Dr. Mack discusses the societal and scientific resistance toward the phenomenon which is clearly evident throughout society in general. General resistance is generated whenever a shift in paradigms begins to influence or alter a dominant world view. Ontology (ways of knowing or how knowledge is organized within a society) is drastically shifted when attempts are made to deal rationally with something like the alien abduction enigma. It does not fit. Acceptance of it would necessarily require a drastic alteration of our belief structures, both scientifically and socially, in order to fully integrate the notion of alien influence into our current world view. The abduction phenomenon crosses over and through the physical and spiritual. In a strange way it seems to be both physical as well as spiritual. The phenomenon appears to manifest itself in a physical way, but somehow possesses attributes of the spiritual domain. In a like manner, it has spiritual characteristics, yet it also possesses physical attributes. Dr. Mack continues by talking about how we cannot expect to "master" this phenomenon from within our current structures of knowledge. It all comes to us from or through another reality into our own reality. Since the illusion-like quality of abductions creates such discontinuity in our normal realm of beliefs, the only way most people deal with it is to dismiss it outright, as would be the case in any situation where discontinuity and the lack of physical proof abound. Resistance also emanates from the fact that we have no language with which to describe the subtleties of what seems to be happening to experiencers, therefore, resistance is understandably substantial. Dr. Mack explains that normal language like good-evil and Gods-Devils cannot adequately describe what seems to be occurring. Mack, it appears, remains convinced that the phenomenon is inviting us to expand our notion of reality. We are somehow being challenged to develop criteria which invites a different form of knowledge into our realm, thus expanding our ways of knowing. Dr. Mack appears to believe that this will never be proven outright and scientifically, but that these experiences will gradually evolve to gradually expand our consciousness and ways of knowing. The Nature of the Beings Following each outline the moderator invites both speakers to sit with him on the stage to begin an interchange or dialogue about key points of their years of observations and work among experiencers. The moderator requests more clarification on the nature of the beings and what they seem to bring to our reality. It is quite clear that Budd Hopkins has a defined mistrust of the aliens and their motivations. He explains how he has witnessed immense trauma and how the ensuing traumatic disorder has affected the lives of many of the

[China's getting a fine return on their investment --MS] http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/aponline/2417/aponline175259_00 0.htm US Won't Allow Taiwan Destroyer Sale By Barry Schweid AP Diplomatic Correspondent Monday, April 17, 2000; 5:52 p.m. EDT WASHINGTON President Clinton, backed by his senior advisers, decided Monday against the sale of four Aegis destroyers to Taiwan but approved sale of long-range radar designed to detect missile launches, a senior U.S. official said. Clinton, in California on a tour of impoverished communities, acted on the recommendation of top advisers who met earlier in the day at the White House, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The Pentagon had recommended that the administration put off Taiwan's request to buy new weapons, including the destroyers, submarines and anti-submarine aircraft, in order to avoid angering China, which views Taiwan as a rebellious province. The decision could touch off a fight with Congress, where support for Taiwan and its growing democratic trends is strong, especially in light of menacing gestures by Beijing toward the island. Sen. Jesse Helms, R-N.C., said the Pentagon was succumbing to pressure from the State Department and the White House "to sacrifice Taiwan's security in order to appease the dictators in Beijing." Helms, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said in a statement: "There is, quite simply, no military justification to deny Taiwan these crucial defensive items. These denials are driven by knee-jerk appeasement on the part of the White House and State Department." A showdown between the White House and Congress could develop over legislation backed by Taiwan supporters to strengthen U.S.-Taiwanese military ties. "The politicized handling of Taiwan's defense request and the utter failure of this administration to consult with Congress is a clear demonstration why the Taiwan Security Enhancement Act is so urgently needed," Helms said. Administration officials have said they would recommend a presidential veto if Congress tries to force the sale of arms to Taiwan. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., took steps last week to push the bill to a floor vote by the end of the month. Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., immediately imposed a "hold" on the measure that could block Lott's efforts. Baucus is a leader in a drive to grant China permanent trade benefits. P.S. White House Data Unsearched By George Lardner Jr. Washington Post Staff Writer Tuesday , April 18, 2000 ; A27 The White House has a huge trove of computerized records that have never been searched during the criminal and congressional investigations of the Clinton administration. The records appear to be covered by various subpoenas that called on the White House to turn over relevant records contained oncomputer disks, computer entries and tapes. The White House says much #150; though not all #150; of the material is likely to be duplicative of the hundreds of thousands of paper pages it has already produced in response to an avalanche of subpoenas. Officials say they have no intention of examining the electronic records #150; memos, speeches, drafts, schedules, notes and other items written on the computers of former staffers #150; because of the prohibitive costs involved. The documents are in addition to the missing e-mails that the White House is now attempting to reconstruct. White House spokesman Jim Kennedy said that while "a subpoena can ask for the moon, that doesn't mean we have to produce it." He said the White House must make "a good-faith, reasonable search for material that may be responsive to a subpoena, but we don't think it reasonable, given the time and expense," to search all individual hard drives and back-up tapes that might be covered. Kennedy said there are about 600 tapes of the hard or "C" drives of former aides to President Clinton and Vice President Gore that are routinely archived as they leave their White House jobs. The computers can then be used by their successors. Kennedy said the backup tapes that contain the missing e-mails also have materials taken from the "F," or shared, drives of White House computers. "Because of the time and expense involved, they [the computer drives] have not been searched as a general matter and the people who have issued subpoenas understand that," Kennedy said. A former White House computer specialist, Sheryl L. Hall, said in a March 7 affidavit that she was told by a White House staffer several weeks ago that plans were afoot to destroy existing C drive tapes and to stop making any more. Among the tapes that have been saved, she said, are data from the hard drives of ex-staffers such as Linda Tripp, the secretaries to former White House counsel Bernard Nussbaum and former associate White House counsel William Kennedy III. Tripp was the confidante of former White House intern Monica S. Lewinsky. Nussbaum and Kennedy were leading subjects of investigation in the controversy over FBI background files that were improperly obtained by the Clinton White House in 1993-94. Responding this month to Hall's affidavit in a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a conservative group that uncovered the e-mail gap, Michael J. Lyle, director of the White House office of administration, said "no proposal is actively under consideration" to destroy the hard-drive tapes or to stop making them. Lyle assured the court that the 600 tapes had been secured in a special vault with highly secure locks. Also being kept there are 3,763 backup tapes containing F drive material and e-mails that were never produced in response to various subpoenas. Jim Kennedy said destruction of the hard-drive tapes might have been "discussed" at a meeting about what to do with them. But he said, "there was never any plan to destroy them." The White House has ordered a $3 million reconstruction of missing e-mail correspondence because it erroneously assured investigators that all such relevant messages had been produced. But Kennedy said the White House had always been candid with investigators about its determination not to conduct general searches of backup tapes or individual hard drives. For example, he cited a 1998 exchange of letters with independent counsel Ralph Lancaster about his investigation of Labor Secretary Alexis M. Herman. A White House lawyer told Lancaster that "the White House cannot, as a practical matter, perform across-the-board searches of computer files," because "the burdens involved . . . are enormous," especially when the files have been archived. A deputy to Lancaster replied that they would be satisfied for the present with a computer file search of just two former White House aides. Kennedy said limited searches like that were made for other independent counsels as well, but not very often. But despite Kennedy's assurance that "everyone [who issues subpoenas] understands" the situation, the chief counsel for the House Government Reform Committee, James Wilson, said he had no such understanding. He said he would not fault the White House for not examining the voluminous backup tapes, but he could find "no record of the White House ever telling us it wasn't going to search individual hard drives." © 2000 The Washington Post Company P.S. Monday, April 17, 2000 Negatives from film shot at Waco are missing, U.S. says By William H. Freivogel and Terry Ganey Of the Post-Dispatch The Justice Department admitted Monday that it could not find the original negatives of an important roll of film taken on the last day of the siege of the Branch Davidians' complex. But it said it had not tampered with those photos or with infrared and electronic surveillance tapes of the 1993 episode that left about 80 Branch Davidians dead. The government acknowledged in a court filing Monday that it is missing 30 original negatives from the first of at least seven rolls of film shot by an FBI photographer who circled 1,000 feet above the complex in a Cessna surveillance aircraft. The government, however, does have prints of the missing negatives and the original contact sheet of the negatives. This roll of film is important because it appears to show that there are no government agents standing where flashes show up on infrared surveillance tape of the incident. The absence of agents undercuts the Branch Davidians' claim that the flashes are from the guns of agents firing into the complex. One strip of original negatives from that first roll of film has been turned over to the federal court that is hearing the Branch Davidians' wrongful death suit against the government. That strip contains a key photograph that appears to have been taken at 11:24 a.m., within seconds of flashes on the video. That photograph shows no agents in the vicinity of the flashes. But the other negatives from that roll of film have been missing since at least 1997 and have not been found despite an extensive search by the FBI, the Justice Department said. Agents searched for the negatives at least five times. The department said that the strip of original negatives with the photo from 11:24 a.m. was separated from the missing original negatives when Congress requested it as part of its 1995 investigation of Waco. A document analyst with the Special Photo Unit of the FBI, identified only as "ALS," found that the negatives were missing around April 1997. The FBI then made a duplicate set of the negatives from photographs and marked them with the notation "originals lost." The Davidians' attorney, Michael Caddell, had claimed that one of the photos from the replacement negatives had a white scratch that appeared to obliterate a speck that might be a person. But the Justice Department said that the contact sheet, made from the original negative, had no person or speck. The Justice Department also disputed Caddell's claim that several rolls of the film were missing. The photographer taking the film that said he took about 10 rolls, give or take one or two. The FBI produced seven rolls. In Monday's court filing, the department produced logs and records that appear to show that only seven rolls were shot and developed. The government argued in its court filing that it should not be fined for any discrepancies involving the photos or tapes. P.S. [CTRL] The Rise of the American Empire (fwd)
From: http://www.lewrockwell.com The Rise of the American Empire by Cathy Cuthbert If you are a regular reader of literature of liberty, at some point you must have wondered how America acquired an empire. How did a nationalgovernment based on the premise that all men are created equal, segue into the subjugation of men living in other countries? How did a people so profoundly uninterested in foreign people and foreign affairs become hoodwinked into laboring for a worldwide, fascist bureaucracy? And you must have wondered about the most amazing irony of all How can Americans be blissfully unaware of their governments empire? A Nation of Adult School Children I had a series of discussions ok, ok, arguments with a friend over the war in Kosovo. This friend had had a Vietnam draft number but wouldn't have gone if his number came up. He said that while traveling in Greece in the 70s, he had heard a very different story about United States Government (USG) involvement in SE Asia than the one being told at home. Yet this same man thirty years later declared that the genocide in Kosovo was so abhorrent to him that he was willing to go fight at the age of 48. He believed every story of ethnic cleansing and mass graves no matter how unbelievable. He demanded no evidence other than Tom Browkaw's word to he make up his mind, or rather to have his mind made up for him, that Milosevic is a Serbian Hitler. He sincerely believed that NATO was fighting a humanitarian war and that if NATO didn't stop the slaughter of innocents, it would go on till no one was left. "We have a responsibility to do something," he said. "Its the same as if you knew that a thug was breaking into your neighbor's house and attacking him and his family. You'd be morally bound to do something to stop it." I looked at my friend and shook my head, trying to understand how he can so fervently believe such utter nonsense. No argument could shake him. Does 2,000 killed on both sides over two years really constitute genocide? Do mass graves really have head stones? Didnt he know about the forensic evidence found at Racak showing that the massacre was staged? Facts and logic didnt matter to him. I was at a loss to explain his tenacious grip on received opinion. Then I closed my eyes and saw my friend as he must have been forty years ago, sitting attentively at a little desk. With this image the whole of 20th century political history became clear to me. The USG has troops stationed in 135 countries. It bombed four countries in 1999 alone. Yet few Americans are horrified at this. Any time and anywhere in the entire world there is conflict, Americans demand that the USG act, which means flex its military muscle. At any incident that can be propagandized as terrorism and before any evidence or even details are available, Pavlovs dogs flood talk radio with calls demanding that "we nuke the towel heads." Close your eyes and call up a vision of a first grade classroom and the reason will be clear to you, too. Every night, millions of dog tired working stiffs and I dont mean only the Joe Sixpacks, but those 60 hour work week Yuppies, as well collapse onto their couches in front of their TVs, turn on the evening news and revert back to childhood as they imbibe a constant stream of lies and propaganda about, well, everything. "The most trusted men in America" read a script carefully constructed to paint just the right picture of what is happening in all aspects of 20th century American life. Expert advice is now considered essential to understanding foreign affairs or domestic politics or global warming or even the lack of safety in their own neighborhoods. Exhausted from the days labors and mesmerized by the flashing lights before them, they take it all in the way they took in Miss Wormwoods exhortations forty years before. There is no difference. Compulsory government schooling began in the US in 1852 in Massachusetts. At that time, it took guns, soldiers and the threat of bloody violence, rather than expert advice, to force parents to submit to giving up their children. After one generation of public schooling with its propaganda about the sacred nature of the union and manifest destiny, it was possible for McKinley to make the first concrete steps toward world wide rather than continental empire. By the time the last state passed its compulsory schooling law in 1918 and another generation served out its prison term in government schools, the USG was able to institute war socialism and jail war dissenters in the land of the free and the home of the brave. After three generations of compulsory schooling, the grip on the minds of institutionally schooled people was so strong that the same propaganda used on the previous generation about the Kaisers Germany, even though thoroughly discredited, could be recycled and used against Hitlers Germany. By the time the number of non-institutionally schooled grandparents and even

But then this is the same country that attached a U.S. military ship in 1967, killing many, and to this day refuses to pay up. This is the same country that used an American Jewish U.S. Navy employee to spy on the U.S.'s most top secret affairs. Indeed, this is the same country that has given us everything from Deir Yassin to the Lavon Affair to the Liberty Ship to Jonathan Pollard -- and of course what we don't yet know is for sure far far more than this. Now we also know about Israel and China. Having gotten away with everything else the Israelis assume they can get away with this too. Indeed, the cowardly and hypocritical Congress of the United States is also "occupied Israeli territory". STRANGE BEDFELLOWS: CHINA AND ISRAEL By Eric S. Margolis The first-ever visit by a Chinese head of state to Israel last week seemed at first glance rather curious. China, a longtime political and military supporter of the Arabs and Iran, used to denounce Israel as a `running dog of US imperialism' and `a racist-fascist state?' So what was President Jiang Zemin doing hobnobbing in Israel? Jiang had two objectives: a. deepen the secret 20-year military relationship between China and Israel; b. by openly befriending Israel, counteract growing anti-Chinese feeling in Congress that threatens both China's exports to the US, and its admission to the World Trade Organization. . . The normally pro-Israeli Clinton Administration, however, is not pleased. William Cohen, the US Secretary of Defense, recently unleashed an unprecedented public blast at Israel for selling advanced military technology to China that could threaten American forces in the event of a clash with China over Taiwan. Cohen demanded Israel cancel the US $1-2 billion sale of 3-5 AWACS airborne radar aircraft to China. Israel refused, though it may only sell China one of the Russian aircraft equipped with an Israeli `Phalcon' advanced radar/electronic warfare system, developed from the US `Hawkeye' AWACS system, at least until the heat subsides Former CIA Director James Woolsey testified Israel has covertly sold `several billions' of dollars worth of top-secret US technology to Israel since 1983. The Inspector General of the US State Department found, in a 1992 report, a `systematic and growing pattern' of Israel selling American military technology in direct violation of US law. That report concluded Israel was supplying arms based on restricted American technology to China, Chile, Ethiopia, and South Africa, all of whom then under US arms embargo. The Pentagon has claimed since the mid-1980's that Israel simply copies or reverse engineers secret US defense technology and then exports it - even on occasion, its is whispered, to Russia. Until now, Israel's influential friends on Capital Hill managed to downplay or cover up these serious charges. The transfer of billions worth of advanced US military technology to Israel, under the innocuous title of `Technical Data Packages,' was arranged by Israel's American supporters, beginning in 1970. This massive infusion of secret US weapons and electronics technology- the largest ever to another nation - allowed Israel to develop state-of-the art military industries that exported some $1.5-2 billion annually (40% of its total exports by the late 1980's), and which became the nation's largest employer. Israel is now the world's sixth largest arms exporter. In some cases, Israel improved on US weapons and electronics systems. Pentagon sources charge Israel `backdoored' US technology to China for the Patriot AA missile, other surface-to-air missiles; the PL-8 air-to-air missiles; C-802 anti-ship missiles; advanced composite tank armor and tank guns; aircraft avionics and ground radar systems; and the J-10 fighter, which is based on secret US technology used in Israel's cancelled `Lavi' fighter. Israel denies these charges. A Pentagon

"The sun is approaching the height of its 11-year storm cycle ..." 5-5-2000? Scientists Warn of Solar Storm By JOSEPH B. VERRENGIA .c The Associated Press BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Scientists detected a major solar flare Friday that could create a spectacular light show in the night sky but was not expected to disrupt communications or knock out electrical power. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's forecast of moderate solar storm activity was in effect through midday Saturday EDT. While geomagnetic eruptions on the sun can interfere with communications and knock out power, no immediate disruptions were reported. Forecasters said the intense part of the storm had passed by midday Friday, but there was a chance of another outbreak on Sunday. The sun is approaching the height of its 11-year storm cycle, known as the Solar Max, although the peak had been relatively quiet until now. The storm was rated at a moderate G-2 level on the federal government's new space weather scale of 1 to 5. Initially, the storm spiked to G-4, or severe. Scientists said the storm originated Tuesday morning when a cluster of sunspots emerged, then faded, on the sun. A cloud of electrically charged particles hurled from the sun rode the solar wind and reached Earth's magnetic field midday Thursday. Eric Ort, a space weather forecaster, said he received reports from Ireland that the display of the aurora borealis, or northern lights, was spectacular as a result of the solar storm. Weather permitting, the display might be visible at lower latitudes after midnight for the next night or two, he said. The Space Weather Operations Center is jointly operated by NOAA and the Air Force. On the Net: www.noaa.gov Solar shock waves can spawn blasts from sun report WASHINGTON, April 4 (Reuters) - In a sort of remote-control effect, shock waves on one part of the sun can spawn monster explosions in other solar regions, which sometimes damage power grids and satellites around Earth, scientists said on Tuesday. Earlier research indicated that these big explosions, known as coronal mass ejections, were fuelled by solar flares directly underneath them. But new observations indicate the massive blasts can occur far from the solar flares that spark them. These ejections are a prime ingredient in geomagnetic storms, which can cause bright auroras, damage satellites in Earth orbit and disrupt power by generating strong electric currents under Earth's surface. The remote-control ejections appear to emanate from very large hot loops of X-rays which seem to connect sunspots in the sun's northern and southern hemispheres, scientists Josef Khan and Hugh Hudson wrote in the April 15 edition of Geophysical Research Letters. Using Japan's Yohkoh (''sunbeam'') satellite, the two researchers looked at X-ray images of the sun and found that three of these big X-ray loops simply disappeared, violently freeing huge amounts of solar material. These loopy ejections were tracked far out into the sun's corona -- a wildly-shaped halo of electrified gas -- with NASA's Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) satellite. Khan and Hudson theorise that some coronal mass ejections are caused when a solar flare generates a shock wave, and that wave crosses a large X-ray loop. This makes the loop unstable and causes it to erupt, ejecting hot X-ray material that becomes a large part of the coronal mass ejection. While both researchers are currently based at Japan's Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, Khan is with University College, London, and Hudson is with the Solar Physics Research Corporation in Tucson, Arizona.

Cumulatively, though, they tend to hover at least in the general vicinity of the President's distinguishing characteristics: 1. Federal Judge Royce Lamberth has ruled that Mr. Clinton violated the Privacy Act by releasing personal letters from Kathleen Willey after she alleged that he'd grabbed her breasts and thrust her hand down his pants and on to the old Executive Branch. 2. An investigation has been called for into the disappearance of White House e-mails relating to illegal Clinton-Gore fundraising. 3. Robert Ray, Ken Starr's successor as independent counsel, is threatening to indict the President after he leaves office. Mr. Clinton's position couldn't be clearer: "The rule of law's got to be upheld," he said last week. "If we don't do it here, where will we stop?" Unfortunately, that's his position on Elian Gonzalez. As to the matter of just where the rule of law stops, the answer would seem to be the White House gates. In theory, having been caught in a massive cover-up and found guilty of breaking the law to trash a penniless widow and being the first president to face the prospect of being led away from your successor's inauguration by Federal marshals ought to be bad news for your party. But, au contraire, Democrats are delighted. Those incriminating e-mails? "I hope they spend a lot of time and energy on them," says a gleeful Al Gore. Mr. Clinton and his women? Hey, the only Presidential woman who counts is Hillary and she's nine points up on Giuliani in New York. Robert Ray's new investigation? "52 million isn't enough?" scoffs James Carville. "They want to spend another $50 million?" In fact, the IRS tax take from the various Monica books, Monica T-shirts, Monica advertising revenue on cable news stations, etc. more than covers the cost of the investigation: In an admirable example of public/private partnership, the market's obsession with the president's sex life has been a windfall for the U.S. Treasury. Indeed, given the collapsing Nasdaq and Dow, it seems clear that there's only one surefire way to prevent the world's biggest economy rusting up: It's time for Mr. Clinton to start hitting on broads again. Alas, most of the citizenry are not trained economists, and the general feeling is that the investigations of Messrs. Starr and Ray have been a "waste" of money. As for Mr. Clinton, things are going so swimmingly he's downsized his lawyers and beefed up his gag writers. Last week, for example, he chided ABC over the network's inconsistent explanations of his interview with Leonardo DiCaprio. "Don't you news people ever learn?" chuckled Mr. Clinton. "It isn't the mistake that kills you, it's the cover-up." It never occurred to poor old Nixon, who laboured two decades to rehabilitate himself, that all he needed to do was impeachment shtick. But you gotta laugh. The more Hydra-headed scandals Clinton-Gore pile up, the worse news it is for Republicans. The more laws the White House breaks, the more the public takes it out on the GOP. During the primaries, Republican candidates mercilessly mocked Al Gore for never mentioning Bill Clinton's name. But, aside from mentioning that Al never mentioned Bill, Republicans never mentioned him either. And, although the Bush team has been promising to hang every White House scandal on Gore and make this election a referendum on Clinton sleaze, I suspect they're just going through the motions. Democratic strategist Bob Beckel likes to tell the story of the little boy who prayed to God to make him into a stud. He woke up as a 2x4 in a condominium in New Mexico. "Moral: Be careful what you wish for," says Bob. I'd assumed this was some sort of coded advice to Al Gore: You think you're making yourself more sexy, but it turns out you're just making yourself more wooden. But apparently it was a warning to the GOP: Try to nail Clinton on his scandals and, like that 2x4, you'll wind up propping up the marbled atrium of the William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library. Bob may be right. So-called "Clinton fatigue" is the bus that never shows up. The public's repudiation of President Sleazeball was supposed to arrive in the 1998 Congressional elections -- "a shot that will be heard around the world," as William F. Buckley predicted. Instead, the GOP blew its foot off: Republicans lost seats. Attempting to make the best of things, some of us figured that voters were reluctant to admit they'd been wrong about Bill Clinton, but that come 2000, quietly and without fuss, they'd repudiate his vice-president: After eight years, America would be ready to take a shower, said

In 1982 a remarkable event took place. At the University of Paris, a research team led by physicist Alain Aspect performed what may turn out to be one of the most important experiments of the 20th century. You did not hear about it on the evening news. In fact, unless you are in the habit of reading scientific journals you probably have never even heard Aspect's name, though there are some who believe his discovery may change the face of science. Aspect and his team discovered that under certain circumstances subatomic particles such as electrons are able to instantaneously communicate with each other regardless of the distance separating them. It doesn't matter whether they are 10 feet or 10 billion miles apart. Somehow each particle always seems to know what the other is doing. The problem with this feat is that it violates Einstein's long-held tenet that no communication can travel faster than the speed of light. Since traveling faster than the speed of light is tantamount to breaking the time barrier, this daunting prospect has caused some physicists to try to come up with elaborate ways to explain away Aspect's findings. But it has inspired others to offer even more radical explanations. University of London physicist David Bohm, for example, believes Aspect's findings imply that objective reality does not exist, that despite its apparent solidity the universe is at heart a phantasm, a gigantic and splendidly detailed hologram. To understand why Bohm makes this startling assertion, one must first understand a little about holograms. A hologram is a three-dimensional photograph made with the aid of a laser. To make a hologram, the object to be photographed is first bathed in the light of a laser beam. Then a second laser beam is bounced off the reflected light of the first and the resulting interference pattern (the area where the two laser beams commingle) is captured on film. When the film is developed, it looks like a meaningless swirl of light and dark lines. But as soon as the developed film is illuminated by another laser beam, a three-dimensional image of the original object appears. The three-dimensionality of such images is not the only remarkable characteristic of holograms. If a hologram of a rose is cut in half and then illuminated by a laser, each half will still be found to contain the entire image of the rose. Indeed, even if the halves are divided again, each snippet of film will always be found to contain a smaller but intact version of the original image. Unlike normal photographs, every part of a hologram contains all the information possessed by the whole. The "whole in every part" nature of a hologram provides us with an entirely new way of understanding organization and order. For most of its history, Western science has labored under the bias that the best way to understand a physical phenomenon, whether a frog or an atom, is to dissect it and study its respective parts. A hologram teaches us that some things in the universe may not lend themselves to this approach. If we try to take apart something constructed holographically, we will not get the pieces of which it is made, we will only get smaller wholes. This insight suggested to Bohm another way of understanding Aspect's discovery. Bohm believes the reason subatomic particles are able to remain in contact with one another regardless of the distance separating them is not because they are sending some sort of mysterious signal back and forth, but because their separateness is an illusion. He argues that at some deeper level of reality such particles are not individual entities, but are actually extensions of the same fundamental something. To enable people to better visualize what he means, Bohm offers the following illustration. Imagine an aquarium containing a fish. Imagine also that you are unable to see the aquarium directly and your knowledge about it and what it contains comes from two television cameras, one directed at the aquarium's front and the other directed at its side.As you stare at the two television monitors, you might assume that the fish on each of the screens are separate entities. After all, because the cameras are set at different angles, each of the images will be slightly different. But as you continue to watch the

X DRUDGE REPORT X MONDAY APRIL 17 2000 20:02:08 ET X FOBs PLANNING ALL-STAR BLOWOUT FINALE; 'BIGGEST FUND-RAISER IN HISTORY' TO HONOR CLINTON! Friends of Bill Clinton are now actively planning what is being described as the "biggest fund-raiser of all-time" -- a superstar event which may rival only the Oscars in raw celebrity power! "It's going to be a marvelous grand finale for the president," one key money source tells the DRUDGE REPORT in Hollywood. "When the dust settles, it could raise more than $5 million! Maybe 10! Maybe 20! We want to give until there's nothing left to give. We don't want him leaving office with debt for simply standing up for what he believed in. And we want only the best possible library to document his achievements." The event, being planned for later this year, will feature musical performances and a possible all-star video tribute to Clinton. "It's shaping up to be our goodbye gift to a president we adore," said one planner. "Everyone involved is very excited. This is not just going to be another one of those Wolfgang Puck-catered dinners... there is no more emotional project right now. Not even the production of 'Pearl Harbor' can match this." Money raised will seed elaborate plans for the Clinton Presidential Library, Arkansas, which has become a top concern for such powerplayers as Steven Spielberg and David Geffen. Clinton claims he's been consulting on the library with Spielberg. "We're talking about whether we could have some virtual reality effects in my library in the museum," Clinton told a Hollywood crowd last year. The Geff, and others, will make checks payable to The William J. Clinton Presidential Foundation, a recently-created nonprofit group. Guests will also be encouraged to give money to help off-set Clinton's legal burden [although many in Hollywood have already hit the legal limit for contributing to that fund.]. It is not clear if the Democratic National Committee will get any table scraps. Nearly $3 million was collected for the DNC during last weekend's Clinton/Gore baton pass in Beverly Hills. Clinton fundraising pal Terry McAuliffe is king planner of the goodbye tribute -- a tribute McAuliffe is already calling "the greatest political event ever." --- Filed by Matt Drudge http://www.drudgereport.com/matt.htm -- Bard There's not a dime bit of difference between a DemoRat and a RepubRat, they're simply two wings of the same bird of prey. [CTRL] City Collar of San Francisco
This is an obvous case of a person confusing his subject (!) matter with the country in which he lives. Should he, and his department colleagues, recognise that it's the "American" language with which we concern ourselves, this little difference of opinion would burn off like the SF fog (that has certainly obscured his perceptions of things, people, and events). AER From www.wsws.org WSWS : News Analysis : The Internet Internet free speech under attack in San Francisco libel suit By Mike Ingram 18 April 2000 Back to screen version A libel trial taking place in San Francisco could have major implications for freedom of speech on the Internet, according to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The case involves an English professor, Daniel Curzon Brown, who teaches at the City College in San Francisco. Brown claims that a web site set up by a former student in 1997 has carried libellous comments about him. The site, teacherreview.com, was set up by Ryan Lathouwers as an online resource for students trying to decide what classes and teachers to select. The site allows students to post reviews of their teachers together with lecturers' comments. Since its launch in September 1997, more than 5,000 individual reviews of 600 City College instructors have been posted and the site has been visited more than 100,000 times. In October 1999 Brown filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of himself and all other City College employees "who have been or will be defamed by the content of Teacher Review". His suit seeks monetary damages and an injunction prohibiting the posting of "defamatory" reviews on the web site and prohibiting either City College or the Associated Students from linking to the site. In fact, the rest of the 1,700 teaching staff at the college have ignored the comments posted or avoided the site itself. Brown has singled out particularly vicious comments relating to his sexuality and mental state. In one posting he is described as "homomanic, racist and mentally ill". The majority of comments, however, are by students expressing their opinion of his teaching. They include comments such as "pompous" and "the worst teacher I have ever had the opportunity of knowing." The site includes a "bottom 10" of the teachers who have received more than 25 reviews and Brown ranks fifth on that list. The ACLU has come to the defence of Lathouwers in the interests of free speech as protected under the First Amendment to the US Constitution. Other defendants in the casethe San Francisco Community College District, which is the governing body of City College, and the Associated Students of City Collegeagree that the First Amendment covers the comments. Ann Brick of the ACLU California staff said, "The Teacher Review website is a perfect example of how the Internet functions as a unique and valuable information source. If permitted to proceed, this case would sound the death knell for any website or bulletin board allowing members of the pubic to exchange opinions." Lawyers acting for Lathouwers said, "Imagine a liberal arts professor unable to tolerate his students expressing their own opinions, and unwilling to allow students to draw their own conclusions from what others have to say. Fortunately, the First Amendment prevents people like Professor Curzon Brown from using lawsuits to silence their critics." At present US Internet Service Providers (ISP) are protected under the 1996 Communications Decency Act, which essentially allows ISPs immunity from libel laws. In a number of previous cases, the US courts have upheld the position that an ISP is not liable for the content carried on their service. In a legal brief presented by the ACLU in October 1999 they argue that the purpose of the 1996 legislation was twofold. Firstly its purpose was "to maintain the robust nature of Internet communication and, accordingly, keep government interference in the medium to a minimum". The argument is cited from a failed case against America Online in 1997. The law was also "'to encourage service providers to self-regulate the dissemination of offensive material over their services without fear of incurring liability or reserving the power to do so or for having exercised that power imperfectly," the lawyers argue. The ACLU argue that in adopting the 1996 legislation, Congress "made a policy choice ... not to deter harmful online speech through the separate route of imposing tort liability on companies that serve as intermediaries for other parties' potentially injurious messages". Previous precedents are no absolute guarantee, however, against the erosion of free speech on the Internet. With the number of cases against ISPs increasing, it is entirely possible that one of these will set new precedents within the US. Even if this is not the case, such is the international character of the Internet that it is by no means clear where a US-based provider would stand if it were subject to legal action by an
[CTRL] AS1 (04-18-00): Imperial Burdens
From http://www.antiwar.com/goldstein/pf/p-g041800.html Someone say "Dunkirk" ? AER {{Begin}} Airstrip One by Emmanuel Goldstein Antiwar.com April 18, 2000 The Empire Struck Back Despite the great heroism of the Imperial troops, the Empire almost killed Britain in 1940 BRITAINS DOORSTEP In 1940 Britain almost died. German troops had defeated Britain in France. Only by a stroke of luck had the majority of British troops managed to make it home, lightly armed. France and Poland, Britains European allies had been smashed. Britain was bleeding gold and assets to her creditors. Hitler was on our doorstep and we were running out of money. It was a desperate time. However, Britain did have allies, the Commonwealth and Empire. They helped her through, indeed they may have been the key to her survival. Really? IMPERIAL BRAVERY This article will argue that Britains empire was a liability that almost killed her. What it will not argue is that Britain was badly served by the troops of the Empire. The Imperial troops fought bravely in a fight that, from a strategic standpoint, was mostly not their fight. Canada was under no threat whatsoever considering the friendly relations she enjoyed with America. South Africa and Rhodesia put many troops into action without a German colony on their whole continent. The Indians, the Australians and the New Zealanders went further. They put themselves at risk from the Japanese by involving themselves in a European quarrel. In addition, many other colonies from Britains extensive Empire endured siege or occupation bravely. There is no questioning the bravery and selflessness of the Imperial troops. However, would Britain have fought better without an Empire? GARRISONING THE WORLD The strength of Britains empire was supposedly due to its size. It was the Empires very size that almost killed Britain. Britains peacetime army stationed a third of her army in India and a sixth of it in the other (non- Dominion) colonies. That was a half of the admittedly small army. This was over and above the troops raised from the colonies. So half of Britains army was stationed abroad, when it was quiet. The British Navy was also stationed abroad in the South Atlantic, the Mediterranean, the Pacific; anywhere it seemed apart from British waters. OVERSTRETCH Britains actual deployments, however, were dwarfed by her potential deployments. Looking at the old school maps where the British realms were coloured red makes one realise just how overextended the British were. The British Empire bordered on China, Tibet, Afghanistan, Thailand, the French, Dutch and Portuguese empires, Argentina, Guatemala, Brazil, Venezuela, Iran and many other countries. Then there was the question of internal revolts in a vast and diverse Empire, groups as different as the Afrikaans National Party and the Indian Congress opposed the war. Britain was lucky that so many of them were neutral rather than actively hostile. Another point was the informal Empire. The British Empire was on four different levels. Firstly there were the independent dominions; then there was India, which was in a category of its own; then the colonies, which included everything else under formal British domain; and finally there were the protectorates. These were independent states that signed military alliances with Britain, in order to protect the extended trade routes within the Empire. Kuwait, Qatar and Sharijah in the Persian Gulf guarded the oil routes. Egypt allowed the Suez Canal through. Kashmir and Nepal were relics from the Great Game in the Himalayas. How could a nation of forty five million people be expected to protect all of it? THE FINEST HOUR Of course, Britain could not protect all her Empire at once. She did not expect to. The First World War may have been fought on a wide canvass, but it was still a predominantly European battle. This was not the case in the Second World War, which was fought ferociously in Asia, the Pacific and North Africa. Britain was simply unable to defend everyone at once. That the Royal Navy would not sail to the Far East as promised is still a source of bitterness to many Australians. In fact, the promise was made in anticipation of the French fleet holding the Mediterranean and Churchill promised the fleet if Australia or New Zealand was attacked "on a large scale", whatever that meant. Even where there where British troops, this did not always help, with an inadequately defended Malaya leading the Japanese Army to the fortress of Singapore. Suddenly Britain found her great strength to be a fatally bleeding wound. THE DOMINIONS STATE Britains lack of preparation for the Second World War is now an historical commonplace. However, compared to her dominions or colonies Britain was positively martial. The Dominions (Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa) had 40% of the population of Great Britain. Yet they provided five divisions to Britains thirty-four in 1940. Britain also

[CTRL] rapist's alter ego castro's plan for 'readapting' Elian's mind
Havana house ready for Elian's "readaptation" Updated 9:48 PM ET April 17, 2000 HAVANA (Reuters) - Cuban state TV showed images Monday of a seaside house in Havana ready to receive 6-year- old castaway Elian Gonzalez if the custody dispute over his future ends with his return from the United States. The large house, with a swimming pool, has been prepared as a residency and school for Elian, his closest family, 12 schoolmates, and some teachers, during a "transition" period of at least three months, child experts told Cuban state TV. "This will be the place where little Elian Gonzalez adapts to his new conditions of life after his return to the fatherland," a reporter said, against images of freshly painted and well-equipped bedrooms and classrooms inside the house. State TV said the house would be used for Elian's "readaptation" if he returns soon with his father under one of two options being proposed by Havana to resolve the five-month- old custody battle. Another option, which Washington does not seem too keen on, is for Elian's teachers and schoolmates to travel to the United States to create a Cuban-style atmosphere for him there while he lives with his father and awaits a final court appeal. Both scenarios pre-suppose a prompt reunion between Elian and his father, Juan Miguel Gonzalez, who traveled to Washington 10 days ago to try and break the impasse over his son's future. Elian is still living with U.S. relatives in Miami, where he has been since his dramatic rescue at sea last November. Elian's mother and 10 other Cubans died when a boat full of illegal migrants capsized trying to reach Florida. U.S. government efforts to speed a father-son reunion have been thwarted by the Miami relatives' legal struggle to keep custody of the boy. After Elian's "readaptation" process, whether in Washington or Havana, the boy will return to his provincial hometown of Cardenas, on Cuba's northern coast, state TV said. The Havana house was ready to receive Elian and would provide the "most adequate medium for him to adapt, and to make a transition from these difficult moments he has experienced," said a teacher preparing the building. The house appeared a good deal grander than the humble cottage on a pot-holed street in which his father lives in Cardenas. The feud over Elian has pitted President Fidel Castro's communist government -- backing the father -- against its arch-enemies in Florida's large, Cuban-American community. The U.S. anti-Castro groups back the Miami relatives' position that Elian should not be sent back to communism. -- Bard There's not a dime bit of difference between a DemoRat and a RepubRat, they're simply two wings of the same bird of prey. From The Times (UK) http://www.sunday-times.co.uk/news/pages/sti/2000/04/16/stinwenws01035.html {{Begin}} April 16 2000 BRITAIN Ailing troops sue over Balkan war syndrome SOLDIERS who served in the former Yugoslavia plan to sue the Ministry of Defence (MoD)after suffering chronic health problems they believe were caused by "Balkan war syndrome", writes Lois Rogers. Doctors link their symptoms to exposure to depleted uranium in anti-tank missiles used during the Kosovo conflict. Research has shown that the heavy metal causes health problems leading to cancer, neurological and immune system defects and reproductive system damage. Up to 10,500 Britons were sent to Kosovo to assist in peacekeeping missions and many were exposed to the fine, poisonous dust, which remains in the atmosphere and pollutes water supplies, after Nato's bombardment. However, the MoD said: "We have done considerably more research into depleted uranium than other nations as it has been raised as a concern for a number of Gulf war veterans. We have seen no evidence to suggest it is the cause of any illness among them and we are not aware of any compensation claims from Kosovo veterans." Twelve servicemen - 11 of whom are still serving - are preparing to sue. If the initial claims are successful, they could open the floodgates for a multi- million-pound group action which could deeply embarrass the government. The MoD is still struggling to fend off claims by thousands of Gulf war veterans, who say they were made seriously ill by a hastily administered cocktail of vaccines in-tended to protect them from biological warfare agents. Belgium, which had troops serving alongside British soldiers in Kosovo, has already begun a systematic review of the health of the 14,000 troops it sent to the region. Tests have identified cases of men suffering the effects of exposure to uranium - even though they were not de-ployed in high-risk areas. In Britain, however, the official response has been unequivocal. A secret memo circulated two weeks ago to army medical staff by the biological weapons unit at Porton Down has insisted there was no evidence of risk to British troops who served in Kosovo. "I don't know how they can say that," said a 27-year-old man still in the airborne unit he served with in Kosovo. He has been crippled by fatigue. "We are expected to do regular five-mile runs as part of our training, and I just can't make it," he said. "I am dreading my next medical in June. I am going to be thrown out." Another 24-year-old, who is also still in the army, re-ported debilitating fatigue and excruciating joint pain. "People like us just have no future," he said. America was the only allied force to use depleted uranium (DU) in its missiles. So far it has admitted to firing about 10 tons of DU-bearing missiles from aircraft over Kosovo last year. Requests for details on missile rounds used in Serbia have been resisted. Dan Fahey, a DU re-searcher at the Military Toxins Project in Washington, said: "We know it has been used in many more locations than we have been led to believe. The biggest danger is to the local population." Monday April 17, 2000; 10:09 PM EDT Whorehouse Next to Elian's School in Cuba If six-year-old Elian Gonzalez is sent back to his father's home in Cardenas, Cuba, he'll live in a house permeated by black smoke belching from the neighborhood rum factory and go to a school where, just yards away, state sanctioned hookers ply their trade. Prostitution is big business in Cuba, reports Cindy Adams in her Monday column, available only in The New York Post's print edition. And Elian's school is right across the street from the best little whore house in Cardenas, says the columnist. Adams' source? Karen Feld, a freelance reporter with whom she's worked in the past and who, during a recent trip to Castro's Caribbean Alcatraz, broke away from the government-sponsored tour and instead visited the street where Elian's dad, Juan Miguel Gonzalez lives. Private telephones are rare in Cuba, says Feld. The homes in Gonzalez's neighborhood are a shambles ... Small fish swim in the gutter in front of his house. The bathroom is a curtained-off area. Behind the curtain a hole in the concrete floor ... Electricity is minimal, Adams reports Feld told her. An apple costs one dollar. Kids hustle strangers for money, soap, pens, notebooks, aspirin. The prettiest building in the area is the brothel. Feld knocked on the door and struck up a conversation with three hookers inside: They appeared chatty until I asked what they thought about Elian. Then they became scared. They motioned they could not speak, said Feld. One of the prostitutes explained to the American reporter, We are not free to discuss capitalism, prostitution or drug use. Traveling back to Elian's school, Feld discovered 900 children in red and white uniforms. She asked one teacher what the student-teacher ratio is. We are not permitted to give out such information, Feld was told. As for Cuba's vaunted health care system, Adams' friend discovered that the town where the Clinton administration wants Elian to live does indeed have a Soviet-built hospital. But glowing reports in the American media about Castro's medical miracle have apparently been exaggerated. Surgical patients must supply their own sheets, reported Feld. The following article exudes the ultimate in hypocrisy! --- TUESDAY APRIL 18 2000 ELECTION 2000 Al Gore as commander in chief VP talks with military editors about his plans for armed forces By Jon E. Dougherty © 2000 WorldNetDaily.com Calling President Clinton "an outstanding commander in chief," Vice President Al Gore said if he is elected to assume the role of supreme U.S. forces commander in November, his main military priorities would be to raise pay, prioritize U.S. military involvement around the world and maintain an increase in defense spending. Gore spoke at the U.S. Naval Observatory April 16 to editors of the various Military Times magazines -- the Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and the Air Force Times. He said that, although the Clinton administration had recently approved "the largest military pay increase in almost 20 years," too many military personnel and their families are still qualified for welfare benefits. "Specifically, in a Gore administration, there will not be a single member of the armed services paid so low that they are eligible for, that he or she is eligible for, food stamps," the vice president said, noting that 9,000 of 2.4 million service members still qualify for government assistance, even after the administration's pay increase this year. "I want to end that," said Gore, adding, "I don't want to wait for the beginning of the next administration to end it. I will be making specific recommendations as a member of this administration on how I think that can be ended." Saying there "has to be a very clear rationale that involves a strategic interest of the United States" before placing U.S. forces in harm's way, Gore said he would base any decision to deploy U.S. military might on key factors such as: Is there an important national security interest? Are there allies? Is military action or deployment the only way to protect the specific national security interest? If force is used, can it actually achieve the stated objective? If undertaken, will the mission have costs that are not disproportionate to the objective that we desire to attain? What special factors might be involved that are unique to the circumstances that are under analysis? "These and other questions should be approached very, very seriously and carefully before any of our military forces are deployed overseas," Gore told the military news editors. Responding to a question about the perception that the Clinton administration often has alienated military officials and destroyed much of the trust between the White House and the Pentagon, Gore said, "I think President Clinton has been an outstanding commander in chief," adding that Clinton "has invested an enormous amount of time and effort in communicating with the members of our uniformed military services and with the civilian leadership in the Pentagon and visiting military personnel in the field." As commander in chief himself, Gore said he would "build upon that record" and "would want to draw upon my own experience as an enlisted man in the United States Army." Gore told the defense editors that as an

The âMotion to Dismissâ was based on the extreme length of time that had elapsed since charges were first filed in June of 1993 and Dr. Clark found out about them when she was arrested in San Diego, September, 20th 1999. Seventy-one-year-old Hulda Clark, the controversial author of books such as âThe Cure for all Cancers,â âThe Cure for HIV/AIDS,â âThe Cure For All Diseasesâ and her latest book, âThe Cure for all Advanced Cancersâ had been arrested in San Diego and held for 16 days before being transported in a 32 hour marathon ride to Indiana where she was released on bail the next day. Supporters around the world have rallied to her cause, sending e-mails and letters to the courts, and the media. Since then, Dr. Clark has received the âNew Scientist of the Year Awardâ in Colorado, has spoken to standing room only crowds in Kentucky and Canada and taught about her testing device, the syncrometer, to classes of interested people. She is continuing her research and updating her books. âHallelujahâ rejoiced Dr. Clark, when told of this decision. She went on to say, âThis sets a progressive tone. [CTRL] Ambrose Bierce Update
I found this on www.altcity.com: Liberal - A wealthy person who comprehends that his or her relatively comfortable position in life was assisted--at least in part--by birth or fortunate circumstances. A person who suffers from empathy for those less fortunate bordering on guilt--such that this person sees fit to support inefficient and bloated bureaucratic programs ostensibly designed to assist the economically disadvantaged but that generally serve only to further line the pockets of the already well-to-do and that are extremely unlikely to deliver 2 cents worth of actual directed benefit for every tax dollar spent. Conservative - A wealthy person who is willing to make everyone pay for big government only if it helps facilitate or preserve an economic system that wholly benefits anyone who has already got his or hers. A person who preaches less government and bureaucracy while rushing to spend countless billions on defense, prisons, police, highways and other corporate welfare. An individual who thinks that the only legitimate arena for government is an unfathomably expensive "home security system" for the rich and who believes that the rest of government's services would be more fairly distributed by the free market system--in other words, only to those with the means to afford them. A person who either has no empathy for those less fortunate or is somehow able to rationalize any away--such that this person sees fit to support inefficient and bloated bureaucratic programs designed primarily to punish the economically disadvantaged but that generally serve only to further line the pockets of the already well-to-do and that are extremely unlikely to deliver 2 cents worth of actual directed punishment for every tax dollar spent. Since so few Americans (5% at most) actually benefit economically from such policies, core conservatives have wisely formed a coalition with social conservatives who come from a wide variety of economic backgrounds but who are strangely more concerned with revenge, xenophobia and other people's religious, sexual and reproductive choices than their own pocketbooks. Re: [CTRL] French Want WWW Speed Bump
It's possible that what is going on here is a convoluted attack by the Oligarchy on the left/libertarian/progressive elements on the Internet rather than on the Nazi groupies. Remember that the Oligarchy has much more in common with the Nazis than it does with the progressives...and that the Internet has been used to very good effect to organize against the Oligarchy in recent months. It's easy enough to justify banning the sale of Nazi memorabilia over the Internet, both because of the "negative cachet" attached to them and because such sales are in fact already banned in Germany. But, as the article points out, once the precedent has been established, we will undoubtedly see attempts to use it against groups such as those that organized the Seattle and Washington actions. I might suggest that the first use of such an attack will be against the groups preparing for the Republican and Democratic national conventions this summer. In this the freedom of the Internet is crucial. If the French courts can impose a ban on Yahoo!'s US site on this issue, the way will be open for them and others to do so in relation to other matters. Is this an example of a person in a superposed (non-reduced) quantum state? It seems to me that the practical potential here for cryogenic preservation is enormous. http://www.sightings.com/general/mancold.htm Title: Man 'Made Cold By The Universe' Seen By Scores Who Knew Him SIGHTINGS Man 'Made Cold By The Universe' Seen By Scores Who Knew Him By Liz Ruskin - Anchorage Daily News From Fred Colvin [EMAIL PROTECTED] 5-15-00 BETHEL - In villages along the Kuskokwim River and in this hub city, scores of people have reported catching sight of Richard Pavilla, a 38-year-old man who disappeared in December while on a snowmachine trip from his home village of Atmautluak. Pavilla, they say, is still alive but he is in a rare condition in which he is feather-light and as wary as a wild bird. It has happened in the past, but it's kind of long and in between, said 77-year-old Peter Jacobs, through a Yup'ik translator. That person is not dead. The spirit is still with the body, but he's in a different state. The Alaska State Troopers ended their search for Pavilla more than three months ago, 12 days after they found the body of Pavilla's companion and the snowmachine the two were riding. The troopers presume Pavilla is dead, too. But day after day, Bethel's search and rescue coordinator keeps taking the reports of people who say they've seen the lost man. Pavilla and Richard Tikiun, 27, left Christmas Eve on a snowmachine for Bethel, about 30 miles away across the frozen tundra. People in the village told troopers the men had been drinking and may have been planning to pick up Tikiun's stash of alcohol on the way. Searchers found Tikiun's body Dec. 28, four miles from Atmautluak and just north of the main trail to Bethel. He lay face down on the ground next to his snowmachine and an empty vodka bottle, troopers said. Pavilla, troopers said, obviously stayed alive for a while, despite fierce winds and temperatures that dropped to minus 30 degrees. Searchers found a series of windbreaks made of snow blocks and tree branches, snow caves dug into drifts and even a hastily made igloo, as well as several sets of tracks thought to be Pavilla's. It was shortly after New Year's when the first sighting of the lost man was reported, said Peter Atchak, Bethel's volunteer search and rescue coordinator. Five of the searchers, Pavilla's cousins, reported seeing a solitary figure on foot about eight miles southwest of Bethel. They thought it was a searcher, but when they were approaching close he took off running, Atchak said. The person crossed the frozen river and was gone, the cousins reported. The next report came a couple of days later. A group of youngsters were driving a truck from Napakiak upriver to Bethel when someone came out of the brush toward them. They got frightened and drove off, Atchak said. The troopers ended their search Jan. 9, figuring no one could survive so long in such severe weather. The volunteer search and rescue group kept looking, and Atchak kept track of the reported sightings. They came from up and down the Kuskokwim and from villages on the coast. In all, there were more than 50 reports from 10 villages. People also reported seeing Pavilla in Bethel - near the high school, at the hospital and crouched under a woman's house. Atchak said he has repeatedly investigated reports of boot prints and found they were made by size 7 Sorels, just like Pavilla's. I wouldn't have believed it myself if I hadn't seen his tracks, his footprints and the way they disappeared, he said. To learn more, Atchak convened meetings of elders in Bethel. More than 100 came. Pavilla is stuck between two worlds, some of the old people told him. It happens sometimes: People get lost, become very frightened and fall into these states. Their senses sharpen so that they can hear rabbits and foxes running in the woods. They don't feel the cold. They are not ghosts, but their bodies become so light they can walk on top of trees and cross wide rivers like the Kuskokwim in a hop or two. The Yup'ik term for it, Atchak said, is cillem quellra. Roughly translated: made cold by the universe. I've been hearing (about) that since I was a little girl, said Neva Rivers, a Hooper Bay elder. Martha Larson, of Napakiak, said her family had a brief brush with this phenomenon. In the late 1950s, her teenage sister got lost at their summer fish camp. She was missing only about half a day. When the sister came back she told them that she could hear her family calling her but she was too afraid to show herself. Something happens to you

[CTRL] Truth is out there - on the Web - about secret Air Force test site
Truth is out there - on the Web - about secret Air Force test site Copyright © 2000 Nando Media Copyright © 2000 Associated Press By MARTHA WAGGONER, Associated Press RALEIGH, N.C. (April 18, 2000 2:48 p.m. EDT http://www.nandotimes.com) - The truth is out there - on the Web. Photos of Area 51, the super-secret Air Force test site in Nevada that has long tantalized UFO and conspiracy buffs and fans of "The X-Files," are being posted on the Internet. "This is the first glimpse into the most secret training and testing facility for the Air Force," said John Hoffman, president of Aerial Images Inc. of Raleigh. The company planned to post five images of the site, divided into four frames each, in collaboration with Microsoft, Kodak, Digital Equipment Corp., Autometric Inc. and the Russian agency Sovinformsputnik. The partners launched a Russian satellite from Kazakstan in 1998 to map Earth's surface and Area 51. "There are runways, there are buildings, there are buses, there are test sites, but there aren't any little green men or super-secret aircraft to be seen," Hoffman said of the new photos. Several government agencies are aware of the images and haven't responded, said Hoffman, 52, a Vietnam veteran who recently retired from the National Guard after 23 years. "I've had no feedback from anybody that indicates anybody gives a hoot," he said. An Air Force spokeswoman would not comment Monday on any security concerns about the images. "We acknowledge having an operating site there, and the work is classified," spokeswoman Gloria Cales said. The work involves "operations critical to the U.S. military and the country's security." Aerial Images plans to offer a link to the Area 51 pages. Viewing the images is free; downloading them costs $8.95 and up. Kodak will print photographs for $20 to $30. The images show craters, some seemingly formed by something dropped from the sky, others possibly by something coming out of the ground. There are hundreds of buildings, living quarters, tennis courts, a baseball field, a track and a swimming pool. There are no paved roads and no parking lots; buses are the only visible vehicles, raising the question of how employees get to and from work. Unpaved roads disappear into cliffsides, suggesting a possible underground network. A shrouded aircraft is visible on a ramp, unusual considering the Air Force knows when Russian satellites are overhead, Hoffman said. Walter Andrus Jr., international director of the Mutual UFO Network, based in Seguin, Texas, seemed to have a hard time believing the object of so much secrecy and discussion would soon be available on the Web. "We have other photos taken from the ground and from the air, but they aren't this current," he said. Even Chris Carter, creator of "The X-Files," apparently was skeptical when Hoffman contacted him. Some of the show's favorite themes are UFOs and secret government activities, and one of its mantras is "The truth is out there." "He clearly didn't believe me," Hoffman said. "From his tone, you could tell he didn't believe me that we had Area 51 and we had the whole area covered." For the Cause, Linda Buchanan begins 3-week push to get place on ballot in Texas 04/18/2000 By Carolyn Barta / The Dallas Morning News The Buchanan Brigade moves into Texas on Tuesday, opening a three-week battle to get Reform Party presidential hopeful Pat Buchanan on the November ballot. Calling it the "toughest state in the nation" for an independent or third-party candidate, Mr. Buchanan is mustering volunteers, hired guns and campaign staff to gather 56,000 petition signatures by May 8. "Our headquarters is a ghost town," he said Monday in a telephone interview. Texas is a difficult state because of the large number of signatures required and little time to circulate petitions. Only the signatures of registered voters who did not vote in a party primary or sign any other ballot-access petition are considered valid. Mr. Buchanan, who will hold rallies Tuesday night at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Irving and Wednesday in Houston, said the Republican Party of George W. Bush presents no real alternative to the Democrats. "The problem with Mr. Bush and the party establishment is that they're almost indistinguishable from Bill Clinton and Al Gore," said Mr. Buchanan, a former Republican. He said the Texas governor has declared his "neutrality" on traditional family values by meeting with gay activists and refusing to rule out potential running mates who support abortion rights. "He has raised the white flag in the cultural war," Mr. Buchanan said. "On right to life, Gore is militantly pro-abortion and Mr. Bush can teach it either way. So where is the difference?" Other areas of Bush-Gore agreement include trade and immigration, he said. Meanwhile, Mr. Buchanan said he will not force an anti-abortion plank on the platform at the Reform Party national convention Aug. 10-13 in Long Beach, Calif. The party has always eschewed social issues. He will pledge, however, that his running mate and Supreme Court nominees will oppose abortion. Social issues aside, he calls himself a "good fit" for the party founded by Dallas billionaire Ross Perot because "it is populist, for economic patriotism, putting the country first and for keeping America out of wars and conflicts where we have no vital interests." Mr. Buchanan is seeking ballot access in 29 states where the Reform Party is not on the ballot. He has qualified in Utah, South Dakota and Hawaii. In Texas, he's
[CTRL] President Clinton: Teaching children responsibility--- Right!!!!
WJPBR Email News List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peace at any cost is a prelude to war! President Clinton: Teaching children responsibility -- -- President Clinton can hold as many feel-good White House conferences as he wants but until he at least attempts to practice what he preaches, these ballyhooed confabs will hardly be worth the hot air they generate. Clinton announced that he and Hillary will host a White House Conference on Teen-agers on May 2 to "talk through the challenges of raising responsible children." It seems that they were moved by an astonishing piece of research indicating that the preteen years set patterns for behavior in adulthood. Wow! You mean to tell me that a child's early influences may affect what he becomes as an adult? This is almost as shocking as that infamous Time Magazine story that revealed that men and women were actually born different. It never ceases to amaze me how liberals commission studies to confirm what man has known since before the time he didn't descend from the Neanderthal. But far be it from me to discourage such studies, especially if they finally supply liberals with data the rest of us acquired by common sense. Conservatives have always known that a child's upbringing will greatly influence the type of person he will grow up to be. Critically important are the example the parents set, the values they impart and the outside influences to which they expose the child. As parents, you teach a child the importance of honesty and integrity by punishing him for lying. You teach responsibility by making him accountable for his actions. But all your preaching and discipline will be for naught unless you live your own lives in accordance with those principles. And even if you discharge your parental duties impeccably your child is still at risk of being corrupted by things beyond your control. Though liberals may not realize this either without an expensive study, the president of the United States, through his words and actions, sets a moral example for our children. While parents don't expect to get much help from Hollywood in this department, they do have a right to count on their Chief Executive to reinforce the values they are instilling at home. Bill Clinton can talk until he's blue in the face about teaching children to be responsible but he will continue to do more harm than good as long as his actions undermine his empty words. Even without benefit of a federal study, I'm prepared to tell you that his actions do belie his words. While his presidential fate was in the hands of his Senate impeachment jurors, Clinton was issuing an apology a week and meeting incessantly with his spiritual advisers. His subsequent pronouncements on the subject demonstrate his lack of contrition. According to Clinton, he only did one thing wrong and that was merely a mistake. (Just for the record, having relations with an intern in the Oval Office, lying about it to the American people and the court, suborning Betty Currie's perjury, and other miscellaneous obstructions of justice were not mistakes, but intentional wrongs.) "I'm not ashamed of the fact that they impeached me. That was their decision, not mine, and it was wrong. As a matter of law, Constitution, and history, it was wrong. I'm glad I didn't quit, and I'm glad we fought it. ... I am proud of what we did here because I think we saved the Constitution of the United States." Listen up, America's youth. It was Congress' and Ken Starr's fault that the president committed these crimes and other despicable acts. It was the Independent Counsel and Congress that subverted the Constitution for trying to make the president accountable for engaging in high crimes and misdemeanors. The message: No matter what you do, if you deny it and blame your accusers, you'll get away with it. When possible, always pass the buck. If you repeat a lie often enough it will be accepted as truth. And, pretend to be sorry as long it serves your interests, but not a second longer. The president could do a lot more for our children by accepting responsibility and accountability for his actions than by holding bogus conferences that pretend to search in earnest for answers that are right in front of our faces. -- -- ©2000 Creators Syndicate, Inc. **COPYRIGHT NOTICE** In accordance with Title 17 U. [CTRL] How Clinton 'saved the Constitution' -- Believe this? I Mars Land For sale!
WJPBR Email News List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peace at any cost is a prelude to war! TUESDAY APRIL 18 2000 ⢠Joseph Farah is editor of WorldNetDaily.com. ⢠-- -- -- -- How Clinton 'saved the Constitution' -- -- I left Washington a day early. Had I still been there last Thursday, I could have witnessed a historic speech -- right in the very hotel where I was staying until the day before! What I missed was President Clinton explaining to hundreds of newspaper editors from around the country how he "saved the Constitution" by fighting his impeachment on perjury and intern-shtupping charges. I'm not kidding. Read it for yourself. When asked how the presidential museum in Arkansas might deal with the impeachment legacy, Clinton boldly pronounced: "We'll have to deal with it, it's an important part of it (his administration). I am proud of what we did there because I think we saved the Constitution of the United States." That's what he said. I don't make 'em up, folks. I'm just the messenger. And there's more: "But as a political matter, you have no idea -- I'm not ashamed of the fact that they impeached me," he said. "That was their decision, not mine. And it was wrong. As a matter of law, the Constitution and history, it was wrong. And I am glad I didn't quit and I'm glad we fought it. And the American people stuck with me, and I am profoundly grateful." Clinton also claimed he's "not interested" in being pardoned for any crimes he may have committed. This was on the minds of editors following the Washington Post story last week suggesting Independent Counsel Robert Ray may indict the president after he leaves office. But Clinton skillfully evaded the real question. He never said whether he would accept a pardon. Of course he would. And there's little question Vice Perpetrator (credit to Rush Limbaugh for this title) Al Gore would grant him one should he be elected. "The answer is I have no interest in it. I wouldn't ask for it. I don't think it would be necessary," the president told the convention of the American Society of Newspaper Editors. "I am prepared to stand before any bar of justice I have to stand before." Clinton was fuming over facing such questions following a speech he hoped would help establish his political legacy. "I've paid quite a lot," he said. "I struggled very hard to save my relationship with my wife and my daughter. ... I made a terrible mistake of which I am deeply regretful. But I think that the average, ordinary person reviewing the wreckage left in that would say that I paid for that." Clinton needn't worry too much, though. Anyone expecting an actual indictment from the independent counsel's office before or after Clinton leaves office will be waiting a very long time. Recall that Ray's predecessor, Kenneth Starr, frequently leaked stories to the press about imminent indictments of first lady Hillary Clinton and many other figures close to the president. They never materialized. Starr was hardly the Torquemada-style inquisitor as Clinton portrayed him. He was either a Boy Scout way over his head in dealing with a criminal racketeer in high office or a skilled cover-up artist himself. Take your pick. Ray will be no better. The word on the street is he's gearing up his own political career -- as a Democrat. But, no worries. The Constitution has been preserved. The republic has been saved. In fact, as time goes by, I think Clinton's story will get even better. I have no doubts that once he leaves office we may even hear that he only committed perjury and those other crimes in a noble, self-sacrificing effort to create the showdown to save the Constitution. It was necessary. He had to do it. Not ashamed? You kidding? He's proud. -- -- A daily radio broadcast adaptation of Joseph Farah's commentaries can be heard at KTKZ in Sacramento and the Internet portal OnePlace.com E-mail to a friendPrinter-friendly version **COPYRIGHT NOTICE** In accordance with Title 17 U. [CTRL] Alan Keyes' Testimony at the Vermont Statehouse
WJPBR Email News List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peace at any cost is a prelude to war! Alan Keyes' Testimony at the Vermont Statehouse "The family doesn't exist as an institution just in order to gratify those who are part of it" Thank you very much. I've enjoyed the chance to meet all of you and have a chance to chat for a little bit. And I'm thankful for the privilege I've been extended today of sharing thoughts with folks in the state. And it is a privilege, because I think that the prerogative of making these judgements, as I have repeatedly pointed out, does in fact belong to the people of our individual states. I am here today, in the first instance, wishing to affirm that fact, because I'm such a strong believer of federalism I wouldn't want to give anybody the wrong idea. But I do believe that we, in doing the things that we do, have a responsibility to one another, especially when we know what the implications will be of the decisions that we face. One reporter asked me today, how I felt about folks who were saying that this was a decision only for Vermonters, that it really didn't effect anybody else, and we all know that that's not true. The decisions that are being taken, not only here, but in different parts in the country, are decisions that will fundamentally effect both the moral culture and the fundamental institutions of our society for good and all. We are making judgements that could permanently undo not only the basis of our liberty but the basis of our civilization itself. And I don't think we should take this lightly. I look over the course of the last, oh what's it going on now, I hate to think about it, it's going on 30 years, yeah, since I used to have these debates in college, when a lot of these things were first being unrolled and were unfolding in our society, back in the 60's. And we had sexual revolution and we had all kinds of things and people were telling us that this was all going to be without consequence and it was going to be liberation and wonderful, and you can look around you and know that that's not true. And that in point of fact, we unleashed forces that have been devastating to the social fabric, conduct, the character of our people. And that in various ways, unless you're in what I believe is the deep moral crisis in which we find ourselves, a moral crisis that has already reached such a state and condition that in the last several years we have seen the great threat that it proposes to the integrity that we need in order to maintain our institutions of self-government. So the decisions we take, on a day by day basis, as these issues come up, the decisions that have been taken in the past ranging from things like Roe vs. Wade all the way up to whether Vermont or other states are going to adopt 'domestic partnership,' 'civil union,' call it what you will, as a substitute for our protection of the privileged condition of the heterosexual marriage based family, all these decisions have implications. And just as the decisions taken in the 60's and 70's continue to unfold in their consequences before our eyes, so this one will. I don't think we should underestimate the damage that will be done, because we are talking about that institution which is the building block of everything that we know as social reality. And of course, it has not been the case that all societies everywhere had to be built on the foundation of a one man, one woman, heterosexual marriage based family. There have been all kinds of families. But you go back and look through history and you will not find one other, the polyandry, the polygamy, and all of these sorts of other things, NONE OF THEM were characteristics of societies that knew freedom and that sustained liberty. For that you need strong individuals. You need people who do not derive their sense of worth from the government, from the state, even by the way, from the society at large. But instead, people come into that society already confirmed and established in their sense of their individual worth and dignity, because they come from the bosom of families in which individuals are respected as such, as the unique and respected result of a union that exists for their sake. And that of course, is the basis, I believe God given, for the heterosexual marriage based family, has been the basis for both the individuals in a practical sense but also, though I think sometimes we don't think it through, for the very idea of individuals, on which our society is based. And the questions that we're confronted with now, I mean they try to pretend it's all about these rights for that one and so on, that's not what we're talking about. We're talking about whether or not government in this society is going to withdraw, from the heterosexual marriage based family, that respect in law and other regulations which has been accorded to the family from time immemorial, not only by this form of government but by every form of government that has existed in

[CTRL] GWB meets the First Amendment
http://www.nytimes.com/library/tech/00/04/cyber/articles/18bush.html April 18, 2000 Election Regulators Dismiss Complaint Against Bush Parody Site By REBECCA FAIRLEY RANEY Federal regulators have dismissed a complaint filed by the presidential campaign of Governor George W. Bush of Texas against an Internet critic whose site, gwbush.com, uses its potentially confusing Web address to serve up scathing parodies of Bush's official site. The Federal Election Commission said on Friday that it had dismissed the complaint on the grounds that it was too low a priority to warrant the use of the commission's resources. By dismissing the case in this way, the agency failed to resolve an issue raised by the complaint and by the commission's previous opinions on Internet matters: whether the activities of individuals advocating the election or defeat of political candidates online are subject to government regulation, much like political action committees that spend millions of dollars on mailings and television advertising. The creator of the site, Zack Exley, said he was pleased with the dismissal when he learned of it from a reporter Monday. But he said he was concerned that the FEC had not addressed the larger issue of political activity by individual voters on the Web. "If that means that my case is closed, that's good for me," said Exley, who is a computer consultant in New York. "But the issue is still open, and that means that the FEC still has to do the right thing in the end." In the complaint, which was filed nearly a year ago, Benjamin L. Ginsberg, a lawyer for the Bush campaign, argued that Exley was campaigning and should comply with relevant election laws. The complaint said Exley should be required to post a disclaimer identifying the site's origin, to file with the FEC as a political action committee and to disclose the amount of money spent on the site. When asked whether the Bush campaign planned any further action against the parody site, Scott McClellan, a campaign spokesman, said that the campaign had not done anything new to address the issue since last May. "We just hope people will use good judgment and common sense," McClellan said. "If you look at all the Web sites, you'll see that free speech is alive and well in America, and Governor Bush has a very thick skin." FEC officials did not comment, in keeping with a policy of not discussing compliance cases. In a summary of the case, an investigator for the commission wrote: "There is no evidence of serious intent to violate the FECA [Federal Election Campaign Act], and this matter is less significant relative to other matter pending before the Commission." The file was closed on Feb. 29, and the dismissal was made public late Friday. At the time the complaint was filed, the Bush campaign was criticized for its handling of the matter. Campaign officials contended that they needed to do something about gwbush.com because the public was confusing it with the official site at georgewbush.com. But the publicity surrounding the complaint drove thousands of curious visitors to the parody site. The site, in various incarnations, has featured cartoons of the governor with cocaine on his face and letters from Texas inmates convicted of drug-related crimes. The site got more attention when the governor responded to a question about it by telling reporters, "There ought to be limits to freedom." Internet political experts said that the campaign's approach to the matter showed that the governor's advisers, who were running a traditional television-oriented campaign, lacked sophistication in the handling of the Internet. The Bush complaint also threw a spotlight on the FEC's handling of Internet issues. In the past, the FEC has ruled that people like Exley, if they spent enough money, could be required to register as political action committees. Such arguments have alarmed civil libertarians, who have warned that the approach could chill political speech on the Internet. "Once again, the FEC has left the individual citizen, voter or unaffiliated activist in legal limbo," said James X. Dempsey, senior staff counsel for the Center for Democracy and Technology, a nonprofit group in Washington. "It's very unlikely that the FEC is going to take legal action to impose fines or registration requirements on the individual Internet user who creates a Web page criticizing or praising a political candidate," he said. "But why didn't they just come out and say that?" Dempsey said that he might interpret the action on the Bush complaint as a sign that regulators would be unwilling to use their resources to fine individuals who advocate the election or defeat of a candidate online. Concerns about the commission's actions against people expressing political opinions online came to the fore last year. In a controversial opinion issued in 1998, the commission found that a Web site built by Leo Smith, a supporter of a Congressional candidate in
[CTRL] Mandatory School Drug Test Challenged
http://www.nytimes.com/library/national/041700texas-edu.html April 17, 2000 Family in Texas Challenges Mandatory School Drug Test By JIM YARDLEY OCKNEY, Tex. -- For three years, people in this tiny farming town fretted that stopping the local drug problem was like trying to lasso the winds that blow day and night off the flat Texas plains. Teachers complained of students getting stoned at lunch. Parents worried about peer pressure at school to get high. Eventually, after an emotional public meeting and demands that something be done, the school board here enacted what is considered the toughest school drug testing policy in the nation. It requires that all junior and senior high school students take a mandatory drug test. There is no choice; refusal by a parent or student draws the same punishment as failure to pass the test, an in-school suspension for first offenders. Now, as many other school districts across the country institute drug tests, Lockney, with only 2,200 residents, has become an unlikely constitutional battleground. A parent, aided by the American Civil Liberties Union, filed a lawsuit in March asserting that the policy violated his and his son's Fourth Amendment rights prohibiting unreasonable searches. Arguments in the case could be heard as soon as this summer by a federal judge. "They cannot tell me how I'm supposed to believe," said the parent, Larry Tannahill, 35, whose 12-year-old son, Brady, attends the junior high. "I believe in the Constitution. And because I believe in our Constitution and our rights, you're going to punish my son? I don't think so." Since 1995, when the United States Supreme Court opened the door to drug testing in schools by permitting the testing of athletes, the unanswered question has been where would schools, and ultimately the court, draw the line. Until now, school districts had been tentative in pushing the boundaries, particularly because legal challenges to wider testing are pending in Oklahoma, New Jersey and other states. But Lockney's policy of testing every student has shattered any boundaries. "If the policy has no teeth, there's no use having it," said Donald G. Henslee, the lawyer representing the Lockney Independent School District. Mr. Henslee said at least a dozen other Texas districts had inquired about instituting a similar policy. For Mr. Tannahill, the controversy has made clear the tensions that can arise when an individual challenges the will of the majority, particularly in a small town. He and his wife, Traci, are the only parents who are fighting the policy. He was dismissed from his job as a farm worker, though his former employer says the firing was unrelated to the lawsuit, and he has found a threatening note outside his home. Some people have invited the Tannahills to leave town. Up and down Main Street, people say they do not wish Mr. Tannahill any harm, but they cannot believe one person should stop them from doing what they believe is in the best interests of their children. To many parents, the drug test is a "tool" to provide students a reason to resist peer pressure to drink or do drugs. The debate over constitutional rights seems secondary to many people. "I don't feel like it's violating my rights for my kid to be tested," said Kelly Prayor, 35, who has two children and is a teller at the local bank. "As far as my kids' rights, they're not responsible. What rights do they have? They don't have a right to drink or do drugs." Lockney, which is between Lubbock and Amarillo, is a tiny spot in the agricultural sea of the Texas plains, which stretch to the horizon, interrupted only by telephone poles and windmills and, occasionally, a tree. The local schools are the biggest employer, and the red logo of the Lockney Longhorns, the high school, is painted on the two water towers and displayed in the rear windshields of many of the trucks rumbling through town. People in Lockney do not believe that drugs are any worse here than in other small towns, but the issue has generated attention for several years. In 1997, nearly 300 people attended a public meeting to discuss drugs. A year later, 12 people were charged with selling cocaine, an event that stunned the town. By then, school officials were studying drug testing policies, including those in several surrounding towns. Most of the policies involved testing students for extracurricular activities. One nearby town with such a policy, Tulia, is continuing the testing even as it is under challenge in federal court. But Lockney officials were intrigued by another town, Sundown, which instituted a mandatory testing policy for all students in 1998 that has yet to be challenged. Last December, the Lockney school board approved its own mandatory policy and notified parents that testing would begin in February. Under the plan, all junior and senior high students would take a urine test and submit to random follow-up tests. Employees of the district also undergo the
[CTRL] POLICE STATE TARGETS THE LEFT
WJPBR Email News List [EMAIL PROTECTED] Peace at any cost is a prelude to war! POLICE STATE TARGETS THE LEFT by Jim Redden Forget about the Militias. The feds are now targeting the Anarchists. For most of the last decade, the domestic paramilitary forces of the National Security state have been battling far-right political dissidents. Especially since the Oklahoma City bombing, the FBI, the BATF and numerous state and local police agencies have targeted the anti-government Patriot Movement. Law enforcement agents infiltrated militias, Christian Identity churches, anti-abortion groups and suspected terrorist cells. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a well-respected civil rights watchdog organization, coordinated law enforcement efforts broke the back of the radical right by the end of the century. "Where the FBI typically worked about 100 domestic terrorism cases at a time in the early 1990s, it was investigating close to 1,000 as the millennium came to a close," the SPLC reported recently. "Hundreds, if not thousands, were sent to jail as authorities cracked down on the far right - many in revolutionary conspiracies that included planned mass murders." Now the FBI and other law enforcement agencies have apparently shifted their focus to left-wing political dissidents. The shift began in early Summer 1999. That was when a coalition of labor, environmental, human rights and other liberal organizations began planning a series of massive demonstrations for the World Trade Organization meeting set for late November in Seattle. The protesters shut down the WTO meeting and fought the police in the streets of Seattle. The size and fury of the demonstrations seemed to catch the authorities by surprise. But, as the Seattle Weekly reported on December 2, law enforcement officials had been spying on the activists for months before the demonstrations. According to the Weekly, "Sources say ... that police and 30 other local, state, and federal agencies have been aggressively gathering intelligence on violent and nonviolent protest groups since early summer (FBI agents even paid personal visits to some activists' homes to inquire about their plans). In past weeks, undercover officers have tailed several groups as they moved about the city in cars and vans, and were doing so after the WTO meetings began." The Weekly also discovered that members of the Pentagon's top secret Delta Force were deployed in Seattle during the demonstrations. This is the same unit which was secretly sent to the Waco stand-off. As the paper reported in its December 23 issue, the elite troops set up a command headquarters in a downtown hotel and operated undercover dressed as protesters. "Some Deltas wore lapel cameras, continuously transmitting pictures of rioters and other demonstrators to a master video unit in the motel command center, which could be used by law enforcement agencies to identify and track suspects," the paper reported. "'These guys are the Army hot shots, the cowboys,' says [a] former Ranger who shared a few beers with the unit in Seattle." Hundreds of protesters occupied an abandoned office building in downtown Seattle during the protests. Numerous press reports quoted police as saying the squatters were being monitored by infiltrators. Four months after the protests, the Seattle Police Department called for the repeal of a city ordinance prohibiting political spying. The ordinance, passed in the wake of the Watergate Scandal, prohibits the police from gathering any information on anyone solely because of their political or religious beliefs. "The SPD Criminal Intelligence Section contributed little hard intelligence because of our inability to investigate any of the individuals or groups that ultimately did the most damage," the report said. But by then the government had already increased its spying on the anti-globalization movement which crystallized in Seattle. Many of the same groups were planning to protest meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in mid-April in Washington DC. Operating under the umbrella organization Mobilization for Global Justice, they scheduled mass demonstrations for April 16, 17 and 18. But as these activists began planning their demonstrations, they were targeted by federal, state and local law enforcement officials. The activists found their meetings infiltrated, their public gatherings disrupted, their phones tapped, and police posted outside their homes and offices. On April 7, veteran political commentator Sam Smith reported that police were visiting activists all over Washington DC. Writing in his Progressive Review newsletter, Smith said, "While the use of informers and agents provocateurs by the police, military, and intelligence agencies is not unknown in the capital, open efforts to intimidate participants prior to an event is virtually unknown." Smith also reported that police were watching student activists at Washington's America

In a message dated 4/18/00 6:22:30 PM Central Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: People in Lockney say Mr. Tannahill is not in any danger, though a few concede they would not mind if he left. Residents described the drug policy as a common-sense solution to help children resist drugs. A few people expressed doubts about the policy, but an overwhelming majority of parents and students agreed with Jordan Lambert, a senior and the quarterback of the football team. "I think it's great," Jordan said. "I don't see how we're being forced to when we're more than willing. Ninety-eight percent of the student body is more than willing. Nobody is being forced to." [CTRL] Russia: the counter-culture
www.mailradek.rema.ru (www.ecoline.ru/POPR) text # 86 25.03.2000 i came to geneva to participate in an exhibition called "SAPIENS/SAPIENS", arranged by Igor Sacharow-Ross in the UN office during the UN human rights comission. I was to make a report on repressions against the leftist activists in Russia, thus becoming a part of the exhibition. The day before the opening of the exhibition, on the 20th of March, we have distributed a press release announcing the exhibition and the report. It contained brief information on the recent rise of the special police's activity, which has a certain connection with the elections. There were also a few words about the Chechen war and explosions in Moscow, which served to the purpose of lifting Putin's rating and arousing mass hysteria before the elections. On the 21st of March, the day of the opening of the exhibition, the Russian mission officials sent more than five protest notes to the German embassy, which presented the exhibition, and the German embassador in Switzerland with his two assistants demanded that we should remove from the exposition any information concerning actual political situation in Russia, otherwise the exhibition would be banned. I have recorded the talk with a tape recorder. Besides, there was active intervention by subordinates of Vladimir Petrovsky, the head of the UN office in Geneva. Elena Ponomareva, who is occupying some position in his office, tore from the wall the photos of Larisa Shiptsova, biographies of political prisoners Romanov and Biriukov, the documents of the Moscow Project against political repressions and other fragments of Sacharow-Ross's collage. At the opening of the exhibition I tried to speak on the subject of political repressions, being constantly surrounded by the UN security service men (a special security department, which is not a subordinate of the Swiss police). Vladimir Petrovsky and the German ambassador made speeches, in which they said that Igor Sacharow-Ross "during all his life had been dreaming of making an exhibition in Palais des Nations before the UN human rights commission" and that his dream "finally did come true". On the next day I met the head of Palais des Nations press-service Muhammed Cherif and arranged my making a press conference on the 23rd of March concerning political repressions in Russia and censorship in Geneva. When everything was ready, the UN security service arrested me 10 minutes before the conference. I was taken to their office, where they took away the badge which allowed me to enter the Palais des Nations, and then they saw me to the exit. The security officer (who was dressed in civilian clothes,by the way) explained that it was done according to Vladimir Petrovsky's personal order. Journalists in the UN building have a special right to arrange meetings and speeches of the people for whom it is forbidden by the Geneva UN office. That is why Muhammed Cherif finally suggested that I should make a press conference on the 27th of March. He also promised to supply me with such a paper which would grant me access to the Palace, and even the Palace security service wouldn't be able to stop me. While waiting for the thing to happen, i reflect upon the past and the future. The thought is quite actual, because the elections in Russia are due to tomorrow, and, if my conference takes place, it is going to be the first anti-Putin public event. My reflections are particularly stimulated by ORT broadcasts, which I can watch in the hotel, and also those of BBC, CNN, German, French, Swiss and Italian TV channels, where they discuss Putin all the time. So far I have only managed to inform two major Swiss papers of the events. These papers are Tribune de Geneve and Le Temps. Sacharow-Ross published an article in the German paper Sueddeutsche Zeitung. I have also posted a couple of messages on the Syndicate, an international Net mailing list. The most exciting thing happened right after my being thrown out of the palace. Taken by paranoia, i was afraid of going to the hotel - I thought they could arrest me there - and used a Swisscom street computer for posting the messages. So my first reflections concern the press and TV, since it's Sarurday evening now and I'm watching Sergei Dorenko's program on ORT. During the 90s in Russia the leftist culture managed to gain certain importance because it had been exploiting the media for its purposes. In 1999 in the course of several actions (such as "Sex money power" in June and throwing red paint at the Duma in December) i found out that they can no longer be used in such way, because the journalists can now clearly differentiate between profitable and non-profitable information. The information about the radicals is neither profitable nor advantageous, and thus the journalists are not concerned about it. The information of such kind used to be important within the policy of "public opinion"-oriented democracy. Now it's the media who create the
[CTRL] Anti death penalty fast
Anti-Death Penalty Group Begins Solidarity Fast with Death Row Inmates Beginning Wednesday, April 12, members of a Gainesville, FL-based group that advocates for alternatives to the death penalty began a "chain fast" to be in solidarity with over 100 death row inmates at Union Correctional Institute who are now in the 10th day of a hunger strike. Members of Gainesville Citizens for Alternatives to the Death Penalty (GCADP) decided on the fast at their April 11th meeting. Members will fast each day through Friday, April 21st which is traditionally observed by Christians as "Good Friday," the day Jesus was executed. The idea of a "chain fast" is that each day a different member of the group would voluntarily fast, with each member being a "link" in a long-term fast. The inmates on death row in Florida began their hunger strike to draw attention to the Department of Corrections intention to institute a "no contact" visitation policy. Current policies allow for "contact visits" between visitors and inmates. Inmates assert that it is often these visits, where fathers can hug their children and spouses can hold hands, that enable them to continue to exist with some measure of sanity and dignity. Rev. Glenn Dickson, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church and spiritual advisor to Anthony Bryan who was executed in February, said, "Anthony told me that the chance to hug his kids and his sisters was what helped him to keep his sanity in a place that can really just tear you down." At the April 11th GCADP meeting, Johnny Zokovitch, a campus minister at St. Augustine Church and Catholic Student Center, explained that the idea for the fast came from a visit to death row this past weekend. "The inmates I spoke with were hoping that this hunger strike would raise people's awareness of how a 'no contact policy' would affect not only themselves, but their families and even the correctional officers who work on death row as well. This fast is an opportunity for us to be supportive of the families of men on death row as well as the inmates themselves." Members of GCADP who have visited death row also understood the value to correctional officers of keeping the current policy. "The benefit to correctional officers of keeping 'contact visits' is that the increased morale of inmates that comes out of these visits makes for a less hostile working environment," Zokovitch stated. Nine different members of GCADP signed up for the ten-day fast, which ends on Friday, April 21st. Those fasting include local clergy and religious, college students from groups like Amnesty International (University of Florida chapter) and Pax Christi-Gainesville, a student from Lincoln Middle School, and other concerned citizens. A press conference is scheduled for Friday, April 21st at a time and place still to be determined. In a message dated 00-04-14 18:25:06 EDT, you write: dear friends ! here: http://www.e-thepeople.com/petition.cfm?PETID=369479 you can sign this: The state of Texas is killing innocent people. Anthony's Story Imagine that you are an average 27 year old, African American man. Returning home one day, the police are waiting for you at your house. At the police station, you are booked for the murder of a family of six and then burning down the house. They tell you that Robert said you did it. You have a cousin who married and you met her husband, named Robert. The police book you and take you to a holding cell. Three weeks later Robert testifies to the Grand Jury that you are innocent. Your name is Anthony Graves and you have been incarcerated for seven years and on death row for five years in America's execution capital, Texas. Anthony has spent this seven years trying to get someone to hear him. He had two court appointed attorneys who had never been involved in a capital case and his case was never presented properly. The prosecutor ran his alibi witness out of the courthouse by saying that he was going to make her a suspect. Anthony now has an excellent attorney with thirty years of experience. He remains hopeful that each day is a new opportunity for justice to prevail, but for this to happen the prosecutor and the courts will have to admit that they were wrong. It is like a game of chess and Anthony is a pawn in a world of powerful pieces waiting to take him out of the game, but this game is his life. When you think that someone else can take your freedom, and possibly, your life so easily, it makes you wonder what is wrong with the system. Anthony may very well be one of many in this same circumstance and unless we are able to reevaluate each case individually, we may never know how many innocent people we are locking up and murdering. Re: [CTRL] Virus Alert
Virus Warnings are a pet peeve, especially when the person who passes it on hasn't done his/her homework... There are several very good Virus Alert / Hoax checking services available on the internet. It only takes a minute or two to go to and research the information you've been sent by someone who inadvertently didn't do their homework to begin with... One of these legitimate and hoax researching outlets is : Data Fellows http://www.datafellows.com/news/hoax.htm who have always, in my opinion, been up to date and very informative with regards to real alerts and real hoaxes. Put their address in your favorite places and when you feel the 'urge' to pass on another virus alert, go their first and research it before you panic. To research the WOBBLER virus alert - just go: http://www.datafellows.com/hoaxes/wobbhoax.htm To research WIN A HOLIDAY - just go: http://www.datafellows.com/hoaxes/winholid.htm and http://www.datafellows.com/hoaxes/holiday.htm Again, it only takes a minute to research information like this before you pass it on. Re: [CTRL] Mark Of The Beast - This is Scary Stuff People
What's so scary about a national ID number? FDR established the national (personal) ID over 50 years ago with the SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER... aka: " SSN " Republicans had nothing to do with it, if the writer of the article finds need to 'blame' someone for the act. Go to the source. You don't buy or sell now without your SSN... Try doing your taxes without your SSN.LOL Try putting a large sum of money in the bank, or withdrawing it... LOL You will inform the bank or the government or any other gov institution of this SSN, a national identifying, personal number if you want to buy or sell anything... Try going to college or investing in the stock market... without your SSN. This includes getting a driver's license, tho' they may issue you another number, you still have to give your SSN as the primary resource number. Try getting a job in this country without your SSN.LOL We were marked from the cradle to the grave, with the SSN in this country. ( IF you want to call a national ID number (NID) * a mark * ... ) It would cost the economy way too much money to establish another number... Remember, the U.S. isn't as rich as it was before Viet Nam. Babies cannot leave the hospital in most states today without the parents applying for a SSN for the child. A death certificate cannot be issued without the person's SSN being submitted. National ID? LOL ... we've already been had if this is the mark of the beast... and before most of us were born. Spearheading this historical effort, Jones called on the people to "resurrect this structure as a memorial to remind all Americans that we must always keep a watchful eye on the big government police state activities that are growing with frequency in our nation." With the sad anniversary date of the siege soon upon us, it is a time for our country to remember the 81 men, women and children who needlessly lost their lives on Mount Carmel. It is also important to note that Janet Reno, Judge Walter Smith, Clinton and others continue to attempt to cover-up their criminal actions with regards to the Waco siege of 1993. The dedication of the new church is scheduled to take place on the seventh anniversary of the end of the siege of 1993 (April 19, 2000) from 10AM to 2PM. Confirmed speakers include Ramsey Clark, former US Attorney General, Gordon Novell, Head of Force One Security and the Chief Investigator for the Branch Davidians, and Clive Doyle, Branch Davidian Survior. Alex Jones will also speak and act as the Master of Ceremonies. The dedication of the new church will include speeches and acknowledgements by Alex Jones, Mike Hanson, Construciton Coordinator, and George Pulliam, Site engineer. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend this anniversary which will be unlike the other six, because there will be a new church, and because so much hard-core evidence has come out documenting the fact that the Feds premeditatedly created the Waco tragedy as a Hollywood production to introduce America to authoritarian control. The new church can be viewed on infowars.com by clicking here. With regards to the church, most of the work is done on Sundays, when the majority of the volunteer crew travels from Austin to Waco. Americans have traveled from all corners of the nation, including one self-described "dirt farmer" that walked from West Virginia to work for a week on the memorial church. $92,000 later the church is basically complete, (all donations from private volunteers) volunteers are now putting in fixtures and wood flooring. Construction specialists estimate that had commercial contractors built the building it would have cost more than a quarter of a million dollars. Besides monetary donations, the effort has received various symbolic gifts, such as: a flagpole and custom-made flag to replace the one taken down by the ATF during the siege, trees and shubbery, and thousands of dollars worth of gravel and mulch to raconteur the road that was destroyed by the tanks in 1993. Volunteers also beautified the church grounds by removing rusted razor wire, rubble and by planing the pock-marked landscape with heavy equipment. Thanks to the incredible volunteer spirit of the American people and their refusal to accept the governments lies covering up the mass murder of those killed at the siege, the entire area has basically received a giant makeover. Alex Jones is available for interview and comment at the contact number above. He is also available on site at Mount Carmel Saturday Night (4/15/00) and Sunday (4/16/00). Additional information on the church rebuilding effort, including Alex Jones background, directions to the church, photos of the church, and how to volunteer for the effort can be obtained from his web site at www.infowars.com. McIlhany: The subject of this letter and the proposal it represents have been carefully considered in view of the undertaking and commitment it obviously requires. When I became active in the conservative, anti-Communist movement in 1965, there were a number of book and periodical publishers introducing and reprinting both current/popular and, to some extent, scholarly/academic materials. Naturally most of these publications concerned themselves with current events and personalities crucially involved in the struggle of individualism vs. collectivism. A good example of this was my publisher, Arlington House, which published many conservative, anti-Communist titles until about 1981. Unfortunately today there are no full-scale book publishers in the conservative, anti-Communist field. This is partially due to the increasing cost of books and book publishing in recent years. But it is also due to the movement's need to devote a scarcity of funds for the ongoing attention to immediate issues and the relative apathy of conservative anti-Communists and libertarians following the elections of 1980. It is also true that some publishers have necessarily limited themselves in the scope and content of their publications. The result is that even the most stimulating new manuscripts go unpublished, or must be self-published with varying standards of editorial quality and very uncertain potential for distribution. This is particularly true of more scholarly manuscripts and reprinted materials that are of primary interest to serious students of the Master Conspiracy thesis best known from the writings of Nesta Webster and Robert Welch. And those of us who have collected such material over the years are painfully aware that it remains unutilized. For this reason I established the Individualist Research Foundation, Inc., which is a 501.C3 tax-exempt organization, to make possible the collection, preparation and publication of manuscripts, reprinted materials and other media (seminars, audio and video cassettes, etc.) which would not otherwise be available. The initial project of the Foundation is a periodical, Journal of Individualist Studies, which I edit in collaboration with a distinguished group of individuals comprising the editorial advisory board. A list of potential contents for early issues of the Journal accompanies this letter. It should be stated that the Foundation and its projects, under rules governing tax-exempt organizations, will not be concerned with any current legislative or partisan political controversies, and will thus not assume the posture of an activist grass-roots movement in competition with any of those which now exist. The Foundation represents the satisfaction of an educational need for a necessarily select audience of serious students. But the Journal and other Foundation publications can also become the archives for an alternative curricula in most fields of undergraduate and graduate study for future educational institutions that wish to offer genuine alternatives based on the principles fundamental to a free society. At present, such private schools and colleges as do exist, to the extent they are aware of such alternatives, find it difficult or impossible to assemble such curricula. And if that long-range goal can be accomplished, the Foundation will have more than met its original objective. Contributions to the Individualist Research Foundation are deductible under IRS regulations governing 501.C3 organizations and a receipt will be issued in acknowledgment of each contribution. [CTRL] NSA Spies....
-- -- The Wall Street Journal, April 13, 2000 US Security Agency Defends Eavesdrop Use By Neil King Jr. Staff Reporter of The Wall Street Journal WASHINGTON -- Under attack from privacy advocates in the U.S. and Europe, the director of the National Security Agency said yesterday that his agency snoops on Americans only under rigid controls and never engages in foreign economic espionage for U.S. corporations. Air Force Lt. Gen. Michael Hayden used an unusual open session of the House Intelligence Committee to launch another salvo in his year-long effort to defend an agency seen by many as sinister and all-powerful. European officials have accused the NSA recently of using its international eavesdropping prowess, through a system called Echelon, to spy on foreign companies and sift through every e-mail, fax or telephone call in Europe, charges the NSA calls absurd. The American Civil Liberties Union and other groups have raised similar concerns about NSA abuses in the U.S., charging that the Echelon system could be sucking in vast quantities of information about U.S. citizens without their knowledge. Some members of Congress agree, saying the time is ripe for new legislation to monitor NSA activities. On the European front, Gen. Hayden acknowledged that the super-secret NSA uses its network of powerful listening stations around the globe to gather economic intelligence to track concerns such as money laundering, weapons proliferation and corporate corruption. But he insisted the NSA never pursued industrial secrets or worked to enhance the profitability of U.S. business. George Tenet, director of the Central Intelligence Agency, echoed those denials. "I recognize that it is standard practice for some countries to use their intelligence services to conduct economic espionage. But that isn't the policy or the practice of the United States," he said. Most of the session, though, focused on concerns that the NSA might be violating the privacy of U.S. citizens by intercepting e-mail or listening in on telephone calls. Gen. Hayden scoffed at what he called the growing number of "urban myths" surrounding the NSA, including its alleged ability to tap everything from e-mail traffic to domestic baby monitors. He cited as an example the fact that the NSA's huge computer system at its Maryland headquarters went down for about 80 hours in January. The malfunction prevented the agency from sorting through all the information it continued to gather from around the world. "Can you imagine the capacity that would be required for us to store three and a half days of collection if . . . we're sweeping up everything in the universe?" Gen Hayden said, adding that it took only eight to 12 hours to process the backlog. The laws governing foreign-intelligence surveillance go back to the late 1970s, and some members of Congress argue that new legislation is needed to encompass changes brought about by the Internet revolution. Both Gen. Hayden and Mr. Tenet disputed that notion. "There is a rich body of oversight that ensures that we stay within the law," Gen. Hayden said. In the face of generally mild questioning, both men described in detail the laws that control the use of NSA assets for snooping on anyone within the U.S. To do that, the agency must prove to a special court that the eavesdropping is a matter of national security and the target is an agent of a foreign power, a spy or a terrorist. Such NSA requests, Gen. Hayden said, occur on average about six times a year. Gen. Hayden dismissed as "simply not true" a number of other recent accusations, including the charge that the U.S. and friendly countries like Britain or Canada used one another's services to spy on their own citizens. NSA intercepts are a key ingredient in U.S. efforts to spy on drug runners and terrorists, and the agency's eavesdropping proved crucial during the Kosovo conflict last year as well as during the intense U.S. counter-terrorist campaign in December. Re: [CTRL] Fw: Magic = technology we don't understand
Thank you Bob! What a great article, it fits in nicely with my own views of "reality" as we "know" it. It is nice to know that there are some "real" scientists out there who hold this view of reality as Maya. It opens up worlds of possibilities. On Tue, 18 April 2000, "Robert F. Tatman" wrote: The sender of this message included the following comment: "I don't know the origin of this essay -- somebody copied it onto another list I'm on, but it is an eye opener -- among other things it shows underlying ideas behind the magical law of contagion." My own reaction was that it validates the observation in *Illuminatus* that "reality is a consensus statement." - Original Message - From: Ambrose Hawk [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: snipped Sent: Saturday, April 15, 2000 1:26 PM Subject: Magic = technology we don't understand The Universe as a Hologram Does Objective Reality Exist, or is the Universe a Phantasm? Imagine also that you are unable to see the aquarium directly and your knowledge
[CTRL] Elian's Getting Same As Monica
Elian's Getting Same As Monica 4-18-00 Remember back to when Clinton Co. publicly demonized former intern extraordinaire Monica into something that she was not? Remember how they tried to paint a picture of a young woman who was sickly obsessed with Clinton? Of how she supposedly wouldn't stop calling him? Followed him, and perhaps, at times, even stalked him? Why do that? Why paint such a picture? Simple. So that Clinton can then say how this little girl --in comparison to his old age-- is chasing him and he has to let her down gently. Thus deflecting any possible accusations of him pursuing an intern at his taxpayer-funded office, the White House. Well, the same treatment is being thrown at the Cuban boy, Elian, who survived a daring escape from that island of tyranny south of Florida. Have you turned on the news this evening only to hear that a doctor is questioning little Elian's "state of mind?" It's starting. They failed to make their case, so they're turning to dirty pool. How many folks even know that the Doc making these conclusions is a big 'ole FOB? By spreading word that the boy may be going nutty in that house with his Miami relatives, the Clintonites are hoping to paint a picture of mental and emotional abuse of the boy by those same relatives. Make his Dad look like his savior. Build up his Dad, so that the people will support a forceful raid by DOJ hacks in the middle of the night. We did it for the good of the boy, they'll tell us. We did it to reunite a psychologically-troubled boy with his father, they'll announce. We did it for a boy that is being brainwashed into thinking that he will be better off here in the States than in Cuba! That's what Clinton Co. have resorted to, since they're losing the public battle. After recruiting fellow liberal pinko Dan Blather to interview Elian's loving Dad on 60 Minutes the other night, the Clintonites believe that they only way to get this sorry episode over with is to make the boy look psychologically and emotionally unstable so as to make their point that he ought to go back to Commie Cuba with his Dad. In the end, it's not the boy who's gonna look nuts, but the Clintonites who insist that little Elian will be better off in Cuba, under the watchful eye of Daddio Castro, rather than remain here in the U.S. where he's guaranteed a much better and happier life. -- A.C. Re: [CTRL] Fw: this Magic = SLAVERY!
The problem these Gnostics garbed in the skirt of "scientism" have is that they do not comprehend that their own philosophy of "Maya" is an "Illusion!" The so-called "Holographic Universe" is merely a regurgitated form of amoral Hindu Pantheism, which in itself is a fundamentally slavish dogma that craves the subjugation and dissolution of the individual spirit into the communist-like universal "oneness". The Gnostics are, and were, obsessed with phantoms, evil spirits and the evil demiurge "god". Much of the New Testament contains harsh polemic against the Gnostics and their inherent glib view of life and humanity and their paranoid sense of the Cosmic Grim. In some sense, from what I read of the US history, at the apex of the JFK assassination the US as nation embarked on a course toward national Gnosticism. This Gnostic dialectic was and is compounded by the incessant paranoia of "Conspiracy Theory" which itself tends toward fatalism and a sense of powerlessness against the seemingly insurmountable powers of darkness. Heretical so-called "christian" Gnostics were historically the first to surrender liberty, property, and life to the power of the State, since, inherently they held that the material world and physical body, were evil and of the evil "god" and only the "spirit" was meaningful. Many of the more ascetic Gnostics, in droves, threw themselves over cliffs to their bloody and broken deaths as they sought "freedom" from the flesh and materialism world. Cultists in the "Heavens Gate" sect were essentially Gnostic and like their ancient counterparts, sought their "freedom" from the material world through communal suicide. This is a Free Speech Zone. And the frustration of dealing with a bunch of religiocratic "shits" or "shitheads" (you choose) is enough to drive anybody to use such words. But hopefully we will get some reasonable discourse going with the religionists before Life-Gazette turns into the cyber version of Jerry Springer. Look, the "Greatest Story Ever Told" is very natural and when it is supernatural it is not the "wierd shit" you get from the religiocrats. They twist and pervert the Bible. I was almost moved to tears last year when I watched an interview with a distinguished Canadian lawyer who worked on the "Christian Brothers" (Mount Cashell) case. This man was smart, well-educated, well-spoken and a seasoned middle-aged professional. A real gentleman. After hearing what they had done to those children he went into a deep depression and couldn't work again for five years. I read in the Humanist Newsletter a few years back that a patient/client is twice as likely to be sexually molested by a so-called "Christian" councillor than a nonreligious councillor. Now, I'm not a Humanist but let's just recognize the truth where we find it. I think they probably had the stats on their side. Often when I spend some time with the "wierd shitters" of churchianity I feel like I need to take a bath. Church is not the place to go for spiritual uplifting unless you can avoid the human element. So I think it is better to vent this stuff than to go into a depression as long as we all stay this side of legality. I won't even tell you what I'd like to do with that food truck with the big white cross on the side which drives up in front of the courthouse in the "poorest ghetto in Canada" as it is called. But I won't do it whatever it is. Lorna Dueck featured them on "Listenup" recently along with the other religion racketeers who exploit the poor in the ghetto for their vanity and profit. She called them "Angels" of something or other. What? Hell's Angels? The Hell's Angels Bikers I have met over the years impressed me as more decent people than "Lorna's Angels". What did Jesus say? "Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them" That is 100% clear. And it makes intuitive sense to those whose minds and hearts still work. The "missions" in the ghetto from Slavation Army to Roman Catholic line up the poor on the street to be served a meal. What restaurants which cater to a poorer clientelle do this? None. When the tv crew goes by these people shuffle their feet and look down. My Jesus Christ doesn't compel unfortunate people to lick His boots and suffer humiliation for the crumbs from the table of pseudo-charity. So we are talking about very different Saviours here. Angels indeed. They can't even see reality. The religion racketeers who commute into the ghetto drive through traffic congestion and dangerous streets administered by the professedly "Christian" mayor of Vancouver, Philip Owen. A pox on him and his kind. They mumble "Thou shalt not kill" while the streets and pollution kill more people than the wars Canada has fought in. And it is preventable but not while they are immersed in greed like pigs in swill. If people were "decanted" to safe, clean cities the real estate racketeers wouldn't like that. And that is why they have persecuted Life-Gazette since its inception in 1988. That plus a few more of the Seven Deadly Sins which is their real code, not the Ten Commandments. DOGS. PIGS, SNAKES. These are all Red Letter words. And if you call them shit you are elevating these "Christian" vermin above the stature Jesus Christ gave them. Since He spoke in the vernacular of today the fair translation of "not fit for the dung hill" is NOT WORTH SHIT. These are the Angels of Hell (not to be confused with honourable bikers) and they are headed right to their eternal home. But meanwhile we have to try to prevent the damage they cause. And that is the purpose of the litigation which I post on occasion to Life-Gazette. The BC Human Rights Commission and Ombudsman's Office are just starters. If we try to take apart

[CTRL] Clinton Jokes About E-Mail Probe (fwd)
Clinton Jokes About E-Mail Probe PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) -- President Clinton made a joke at his own expense Monday when a 9-year-old boy asked him how he uses the Internet. Clinton replied that he has shopped online but doesn't use electronic mail. ''If I want to talk to my daughter, I pick up the phone,'' Clinton told the crowd at an event where he announced new grants to improve telecommunications services in poor and minority communities. Then, with a rueful laugh, Clinton made a remark that brought to mind the Justice Department's investigation into thousands of incoming White House e-mail messages on campaign fund raising and other matters. ''If you work for the government, you don't use e-mail very much unless you want it all in the newspapers,'' Clinton said. AP-NY-04-17-00 1430EDT P.S. [CTRL] U.S. Customs Body Scans (fwd)
[Personally I would not volunteer for the radiographic intrusuion. --MS] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE THURSDAY, JANUARY 27TH, 2000 BODY IMAGING SYSTEMS What is the body imaging system? The body imaging system uses reflected x-ray energy to produce images of objects concealed under a persons clothing. The system projects a very narrow beam of x-ray energy that is passed over a persons body. The beam does not remain stationary on any part of the body. As a result, the system is often called a body scan. What does the scan show? Due to the low dosage of x-ray radiation, the x-rays penetrate only a few millimeters below the skin. They do not completely penetrate the body. The images displayed show only those features near the body surface. This allows detection of objects that may be concealed under clothing. The bodys internal anatomy is not shown in the image. The only exceptions are near the skin surface, such as in the lower legs, where bones forward surfaces can be seen in the image. Does the device allow inspectors to zoom in on specific areas of the body? The device contains a feature that only allows inspectors to highlight an object hidden under clothing to determine if it is contraband. Does Customs keep an image? Customs only keeps an image if the body scan detects illegal contraband, since the image may be needed for potential prosecution. Do all international air passengers get scanned? No. During the course of their normal duties, Customs inspectors may select an arriving international passenger for questioning and/or a baggage examination. Customs inspectors do not use race, gender, religion or ethnic background to select passengers. If, during the examination, the Customs inspector develops good reason to suspect that a passenger is carrying contraband on the body, the passenger is offered the choice of undergoing a patdown or a body scan. The body scan is offered as a less intrusive alternative to the patdown, since the passenger is not physically touched during the body scan process. The vast majority of arriving international passengers do not undergo either a patdown or a body scan by Customs. On average, only one out of every 2,000 international passengers will reach this level of search. What other controls govern the use of the body scan? Customs inspectors are barred from administering a body scan on any passenger without the written consent of that passenger. The passenger must sign a consent form before a body scan. Furthermore, each use of the body scan requires approval from a Customs supervisor. In addition, the operator of the body scan system must be of the same sex as the passenger being examined. Body scans are only operated in private areas or closed rooms, out of the view of the general public. The system operator is the only individual who has a view of the screen. Were these systems introduced in response to the recent arrests of suspected terrorists on the U.S./Canadian border? No. Customs began deploying these systems at designated airports in early 1999 to combat drug smuggling. Where are the systems being used by U.S. Customs? Systems are currently in place at JFK Airport, Miami International Airport, Chicago OHare Airport, Atlanta Hartsfield Airport, Houston Intercontinental Airport, and Los Angeles International Airport. By March 2000, systems are scheduled to be placed at Dulles International and Newark International Airports. Why has Customs kept the deployment of these systems secret until now? Customs has not kept these systems secret. In fact, Customs has held numerous press conferences over the past year highlighting the deployment of body scans at airports in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and other locations. Are pregnant women subjected to body scans? As noted above, a body scan is completely voluntary. Scientific studies and reports by independent labs confirm that the system is safe for use on all persons, including pregnant women. However, by policy , Customs does not allow a body scan to be administered to a woman who knows, believes, or is unsure if she is pregnant. What is the dose of radiation? Each scan of the body exposes the person being examined to a 3-5 microRem dose of x-ray radiation. What does that mean? Every person is continually exposed to radiation from naturally occurring radioactive materials in the air and soil. This is considered background radiation and ranges between 10 and 20 microRem per hour. Cosmic radiation from space also provides radiation that increases with elevation. Commercial airline passengers are typically exposed to 500 microRem per hour during a flight at 35,000 feet above sea level. The radiation exposure from the body imaging system is small compared to the radiation exposure from naturally occurring background radiation. Can the systems leak radiation? How will someone know if that is occurring? The systems, by Federal regulation, must contain interlocks and safety systems. Testing
