Plan to Relocate UFO Museum Feared

The Associated Press

ROSWELL - City business leaders fear a plan to move the
International UFO Museum and Research Center from downtown
Roswell to the city's outskirts would steer hundreds of thousands
of visitors away from downtown and devastate its economy.

Max Littel, treasurer and co-founder of the UFO museum, said he
plans to relocate the museum about 10 miles west of the city to a
site off U.S. 70 because it has outgrown its current location
downtown.

But Roberta Ahlness, president of Main Street Roswell's Board of
Directors, is convinced downtown would suffer "a major economic
rupture" if the UFO museum moved. She said the museum draws
between 250,000 to 300,000 visitors every year and should remain
within the city.

"There's space still available downtown," Ahlness said. "We don't
object to them moving and expanding, we just want to keep them
downtown."

The UFO museum already has 25 acres of land surrounding the new
site "tied up," Littel said. The museum needs $10 million to
complete the transaction, he said.

"We're not saying that's the only place we want to move," he
said. "The main thing is, we've run out of room here."

Littel said the number of museum visitors increases annually.
This year alone, he said they've already seen 4,400 more visitors
than the same time last year.

"There's no time element, but we can't just keep twiddling our
thumbs," he said. "We can't just stay where we are and grow."

Downtown merchants are concerned about what will happen if the
museum relocates.

"I think it's going to be devastating," said Barbara Hedricks,
manager of Cowtown Boots. "I think it's really going to wipe out
downtown Roswell."

Hedricks estimated that 50 percent of the customers who patronize
Cowtown Boots are tourists - many of whom would not be there
without the presence of the UFO Museum.

Connie Amador, owner of Apache Gallery, said her business is
absolutely dependent upon the money the museum's visitors bring
in.

"We hardly get any town people - unless they have visitors with
them," she said.

order to ensure her husband's, Bill Clinton's, and her own

This is one area where Barbara Bush makes Hillary look weak. After all, Mrs.

maligned her in any way. She just bided her time, and when George wanted to
run for president, she told him she would help him if he would get rid of his

obviously didn't make the mistress or Klayman upset. Prudy

Why has South Africa's excellent president gone loco?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Posted Friday, July 14, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. PT

In the last few months, Thabo Mbeki has been introducing himself to
the world as a loon. Mbeki, who labored loyally for decades in the shadow of
his mentor, Nelson Mandela, was elected South Africa's president in 1999.
His recent U.S. visit and this week's international AIDS conference in
Durban were supposed to be a coming out of sorts. But instead of dazzling
the West, Mbeki is making a spectacle of himself.
Mbeki has enraged AIDS experts by consulting Peter Duesberg, an
apostate scientist who claims that HIV does not cause AIDS. Mbeki has
questioned the effectiveness of AZT and ordered his government not to supply
the drug to pregnant women. Shortly before his U.S. visit, he wrote a letter
to President Clinton and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan decrying the
campaign of "intellectual intimidation and terrorism" against scientists who
say HIV doesn't cause AIDS. At his opening address to the AIDS conference,
he blamed South Africa's health crisis on poverty and glossed over HIV, even
though it infects 20 percent of South African adults. His aides reportedly
barred South African scientists from signing a petition stating that HIV
causes AIDS.

Fiercely intellectual and curious, Mbeki encountered dissident AIDS research
while surfing the Web late one night. He read the scientific papers and now
talks confidently about "toxicities" and "the phosphoral relation." He
portrays himself as an educated skeptic about AIDS. But his late night
Web-trolling, credulity about what he read online, and $10 scientific
phrases smack less of skepticism than obsession. The president of South
Africa is acting like a nutter.
It's a shame that Mbeki has been diverted by this bizarre AIDS
twaddle, because he is normally rational. "This is very foolish and
uncharacteristic of him," says Robert Rotberg, director of the Program on
Intrastate Conflict at Harvard's Kennedy School. South Africa's peaceful
escape from apartheid, smooth transition to democracy, and continued
economic survival owe almost as much to Mbeki's cool logic as to Mandela's
warm saintliness.

Born in 1942, Mbeki is a child of the African National Congress. He was
raised in the struggle and has never wavered from it. Mbeki's parents were
Communist missionaries-highly educated intellectuals who moved to the South
African bush to help raise the consciousness of the peasantry. His father,
Govan, a radical newspaper editor, was sentenced to life in prison along
with Mandela at the 1964 Rivonia trial. Govan, chilly and distant, still
calls his son "comrade." All Govan cared about, and all Thabo Mbeki came to
care about, was the movement.
ANC leaders marked him early for his keen mind and back-room savvy.
At 17, he was expelled from boarding school for organizing a student strike.
A year later, the ANC shipped him to England to earn a master's in economics
from the University of Sussex. (He also wrote a dissertation about Romantic
poetry.) Mbeki longed to return to South Africa to fight in the armed
struggle, but ANC leaders twice forbade it. They recognized that he was more
useful negotiating than shooting.

Mbeki, who served as ANC President Oliver Tambo's aide-de-camp, helped
concoct the strategy that toppled apartheid. As the Cold War faded in the
late '80s, the ANC was suffering from an image problem: White South Africans
and most Westerners suspected that it was simply a haven for Commie
terrorists. Mbeki understood that white South Africans needed assurance that
the ANC was pragmatic before they would discuss dismantling apartheid.
To that end, Mbeki became the ANC's Über-diplomat. He was urbane and
charming: He smoked a pipe, quoted Yeats, wore perfect suits, and served the
best whiskey (and plenty of it). Mbeki traveled to the West and impressed
Europeans and Americans with his practicality. More important, he reached
out to white South Africans, especially Afrikaner business and cultural
leaders. Mbeki met covertly with Afrikaners at pubs in Europe and at
conferences in Africa. (He relished these private encounters, where he
shone. He is less impressive in public gatherings. He does not schmooze well
or rally a crowd.) Mbeki showed the white South Africans that the ANC wasn't
run by bloodthirsty maniacs. He was just like them: reasonable, educated,
sophisticated. Whites left meetings with Mbeki convinced that South Africa
could negotiate with the ANC. The trust he built, as much as anything, led
to the early '90s talks that ended apartheid.

Mandela named him deputy president after the 1994 elections, and Mbeki has
effectively run the country since 1997. Since assuming power, Mbeki has
continued to favor rigorous analysis over emotion or ideology. A longtime

The Murder Of
John F. Kennedy, Jr. -
An Update
By Sherman H. Skolnick [EMAIL PROTECTED]

7-17-00

What Happened To America's Golden Boy? WHO BENEFITS?

That is a question that should be asked following a political assassination,
or even when foul play is suspected.

The monopoly press, from the time of Abraham Lincoln to date, never asks THAT
QUESTION. Common Americans are to be fed from a bottomless garbage can of
"lone assassin", or "accident" rubbish.

John F. Kennedy, Jr., most would have to admit, was charming and articulate,
and had none of the ghosts and scandals in his closet that others of his
relatives seem to have had or have. If he ran for important public office, he
most likely would sweep the field if not just giving every other candidate a
hard time.

There are two reasons for his death, one being the main one and then, for
some, an alternative. Main reason:

His family knew he planned, on August 1, 1999, to announce, that like his
father, he was going to run for President. His relatives, however, warned him
that the U.S. Secret Service would not and could not protect him and they did
not protect his father. The head of what is now called the U.S. Secret
Service, Lafayette C. Baker, was part of the plot to murder President Abraham
Lincoln. ["The Lincoln Conspiracy" by Balsiger, was also a movie in the
1970s.]

The presidential guards likewise permitted an assassin to murder President
James Garfield and President William McKinley. Both were anti-British,
pro-American at a time when Great Britain persisted in their schemes to take
back this Continent as their puppet colony [an ongoing plot from the time of
the War of 1812 to now.] Further, the Secret Service allowed a plot to go
forward to disable or murder in 1981 newly-elected President Ronald Reagan. A
so-called "lone assassin", Hinckley, part of a family close to oil-soaked
family of George Herbert Walker Bush, then Vice President, was blamed. A
trial that might have brought out inconvenient facts was cut short by a
purported insanity plea by the would-be "lone assassin". Two TV network
reporters stated live that there were shots from another gunman, a matter
never repeated on the air but never rescinded.

John F. Kennedy, Jr., made one grave mistake. He trusted the presidential
campaign officials of Albert Gore, Jr. to know that JFK Jr. planned to
announce on August 1, 1999, that he was going to run for President. That
would have interfered with the plans of Gore as well as George W. Bush, the
Texas Governor. The Gore campaign reportedly promised total secrecy, a pledge
they never kept. The Elder Bush, George Herbert Walker Bush, was reportedly
part of the scheme to assassinate President Kennedy. According to the book
not allowed for many years to be openly sold in the U.S., "Farewell America",
the oil industry wanted President Kennedy dead, dead, dead. JFK wanted the
oil cartel's tax dodge, the oil depletion allowance, to be cancelled. [The
book was written under the pen-name "James Hepburn" by the French CIA that
infiltrated the plot. In the 1970s, I and another assassination researcher
were the only ones to get copies into the U.S. Alas, I have only one copy
left now.] What's that? So you did not know or believe books are suppressed
in the U.S.? Too bad for you.

The latest front for the oil fraud, George W. Bush, likewise would most
naturally have an interest in the demise of JFK, Jr. George W. just before
the fatal plane take-off, somehow was near the New Jersey airport where JFK
Jr. kept his plane without proper security. A coincidence?

After all, JFK Jr. was a captivating speaker and would have most likely swept
the field of Presidential candidates. Conservatives and liberals, both could
join together to support America's Golden Boy.

According to our best, long-time reliable sources, Jr.'s sister, Caroline
Kennedy Schlossberg likewise warned her brother that running for President
would be a death warrant. Nevertheless, she reportedly said she would support
his plans. After his death, reportedly feuding with the Kennedy family, she
did not go to the family get together. Her family reportedly threatens to
silence her with a "Marilyn Monroe" needle, or by a psychiatrist to change
her views. [Remember, Marilyn Monroe was planning to go public at a press
conference with details of her sex episodes with President Kennedy and
brother Bobby, Attorney General. A psychiatrist reportedly gave her the
"needle".]

To understand why and how the Kennedy family financially benefits by not
fighting or exposing the cabal murdering their family members, visit our
website, the four part series, What Happened to America's Golden Boy. Have
you forgotten the attempt in 1964 to murder Teddy Kennedy by a sabotaged
plane crash? Or the frame up in 1969 at Chappaquiddick?

An alternative reason, which some accept, is that JFK Jr. was going to run,
not for President

[CTRL] Fwd: An Online Carnivore

2000-07-18 Thread Kris Millegan

ACLU Tries To Force FBI on E-mail

By D. IAN HOPPER

WASHINGTON (AP) - Using the Freedom of Information Act, the American Civil
Liberties Union is trying to force the FBI to disclose details of the inner
workings of its Carnivore system that can snoop on e-mails, officials
announced Friday.

Carnivore is a computer-like box that can be hooked up to the network at an
Internet provider. Using special software, it scans all incoming and outgoing
e-mails, capturing those of specific individuals under investigation.

The FBI recently disclosed it has been using the tool to obtain e-mails of
investigative subjects - but only after getting a search warrant.

Civil liberty and privacy advocates have raised concerns about the tool, in
part because its software scans the header information of all incoming and
outgoing e-mails at the provider - regardless of whether someone is under
investigation.

FBI spokesman Steven Berry said the device gives the agency ``a surgical
ability to intercept and collect the communications which are the subject of
a court order'' and ignores everything else.

Others have raised concerns because Internet providers haven't been told
exactly how the box works.

EarthLink, a major Internet provider, disclosed Friday that the FBI's use of
the tool caused service outages for some of its customers in March. The
company has now struck an agreement with the bureau to prevent future use of
the box on its network.

``We weren't privy to looking at the specs or any of the technical details of
it,'' EarthLink spokesman Kurt Rahn said. ``If we couldn't look at how it was
set up, and we couldn't know what information it was gathering.''

The ACLU is using a novel approach to try to force the FBI to divulge the
inner workings of the system.

It filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act, usually reserved for
public requests for official government documents, for correspondence,
programming code, technical manuals and specifications of Carnivore.

``Carnivore is such an outlandish concept, so there's some reason to hope
that we can put it to rest,'' said ACLU Associate Director Barry Steinhardt,
who made the request.

FBI officials declined comment Friday on the ACLU request.

A FOIA expert said the civil liberties group has a tough road ahead, citing
several exemptions to FOIA that the FBI may use to keep from revealing
Carnivore's code.

One exemption has been used to protect information that someone may use to
break the law, said Harry Hammitt, who writes Access Reports, a newsletter on
FOIA issues. Another exemption protects investigative methods and techniques.

And if a third party, like a private security company, wrote the Carnivore
code for the FBI, the company could use a FOIA exemption to protect their
trade secrets.

``I think any of these exemptions provide a pretty solid case for the
government to hold the information about the source code,'' Hammitt said.

That doesn't mean that the ACLU shouldn't try, Hammitt added. A FOIA request
is inexpensive and may yield lots of other information, like notes and
letters about Carnivore, which may prove useful.

Later this month, a House committee plans to look into the matter. Also, both
Attorney General Janet Reno and House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas,
expressed concerns about Carnivore. Reno said the Department of Justice would
review the system.

EarthLink, an Atlanta-based company with about 4.2 million subscribers
nationwide, said it had installed the snooping software for the FBI at a data
center in Pasadena, Calif., earlier this year after it lost a decision on the
matter in federal court. The device caused service outages.

Rahn said that while the outages were a ``big deal,'' their main problem is
the privacy issue.

``That's really been what has gotten us opposed to this in the first place,
and prompted the court case. That's our main concern,'' he said.

EarthLink Won't Install FBI Surveillance Device, Journal Says

Atlanta, June 14 (Bloomberg) -- EarthLink Inc., the second- largest U.S.
Internet-service provider, said it won't install an FBI surveillance device
on its network, because technical adjustments needed to use the unit, known
as Carnivore, cause disruptions for customers, the Wall Street Journal said.
The FBI connected Carnivore, a computer box loaded with software to monitor
e-mail and other online communications, to EarthLink's remote access servers,
and found the device wasn't compatible with the operating software. EarthLink
said it will work with authorities in criminal investigations, but expressed
concern about privacy issues, the paper said.

U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno said she will review the FBI's Carnivore
system for intercepting e-mail from criminal suspects to address privacy
concerns.

Privacy, RIP.

LONDON -- The final shape of Britain's controversial Internet tapping bill is
becoming clear after it emerged bruised but intact from scrutiny in
Parliament's upper house.

The so-called RIP bill -- for regulation of investigatory powers -- has
stirred controversy because it would make Britain the only country in the
Group of Seven industrial nations with the explicit legal power to demand
that companies hand over keys required to decode data encrypted for secrecy.

It would also give the government new powers to attach software to
Internet-service providers that could pipe data, under warrant, to a unit
housed in the building of MI5, Britain's internal security service.

Failing a change of heart on the part of the government, the bill is likely
to be voted through the upper house of Parliament on Wednesday. It then
returns to the lower house, which is expected to approve it if the government
accepts the amended text.

After last week's debate in the upper house, the bill has been significantly
amended, with some of the most controversial clauses removed. Opponents,
however, continue to warn that Britain could gain a reputation as a police
state of the Internet world. This, they say, could drive companies to store
sensitive data offshore, prompt Internet-service providers to move or route
traffic abroad, and cost the country billions of pounds in lost investment.

"None of the changes alter the fact that Britain would become the only G-7
economy with government access to keys, and if you were a business, why would
you locate here knowing that?" said Caspar Bowden of the Foundation for
Information Policy Research (www.fipr.org).

Changes to the Bill

One important change has been to require the government to pay a "fair" share
of the cost of installing the so-called black boxes that would transmit data
from the ISPs to the MI5 building -- estimated at anywhere from 20 million
pounds to 640 million pounds ($30 million to $960 million). The upper house
also stipulated the establishment of an independent body that includes
industry representatives to arbitrate the government's dealings with the
ISPs.

Much of the language surrounding the granting of warrants has also been
tightened up, while a definition of "communication data" -- Internet traffic
logs -- that police can monitor without a warrant has been redefined to
prevent unauthorized trawling for content. The rank of official required to
approve a request for encryption keys has also been raised, to police chief
constable or equivalent.

Another change means that those accused of deliberately "forgetting" an
encryption key to avoid handing it over would no longer be obliged to prove
that they forgot. Human-rights groups had decried that clause as a reversal
of the traditional presumption of innocence. Prosecutors must now prove that
the accused "knowingly" failed to comply.

Other amendments, however, failed. For example, the criteria for getting a
warrant are to protect national security, to safeguard economic well being or
to prevent or detect serious crime. The upper house tried to have the
definition of serious crime narrowed so it wouldn't include "large numbers of
persons in pursuit of a common purpose." That could include any number of
organizations that might irritate the government but don't qualify as
terrorists. This, however, was in a package of proposed amendments defeated
by one vote.

The Big Picture

Largely forgotten in the furor over RIP is that the bill covers far more than
the Internet and that much of it is required to comply with European Union
laws on human rights. The bill codifies Britain's existing morass of
regulations governing all interception (of telephone calls, mail and Internet
traffic), as well as traditional surveillance.

"In some areas it actually puts tighter restrictions on what the government
can do," said Marie Colvin, a lawyer advising the London-based human-rights
group Justice. "They really needed to do this -- it's good!"

Some of the public horror has been caused by the highlighting of practices
already common around the world. The British authorities, for example, have
always been entitled to intercept e-mail under warrant. And the U.S.
government already attaches software to ISPs when it wants to pipe data for
monitoring.

But by making explicit legal provision for Internet tapping, the British
government has aroused fears for privacy that will be hard to assuage. Mr.
Bowden believes the RIP bill's approach is inappropriate for a technology as
fluid as the Internet.

"We got them to change the definition of communications data, which is good,"
Mr. Bowden said, referring to the traffic logs the government could monitor
without a warrant. "But the next generation of mobile telephones will let a
phone

Smile, you're on GPS

Eric Peters
Want to bring out the anti-technology Luddite in you? Then ponder the
interesting new uses being found for Global Positioning Satellite (GPS)
technology and the eensy-weensy little transponder hidden in your vehicle, if
you have a built-in satellite navigation system.

Many new cars have this equipment — and are thus subject to more than
merely receiving helpful route directions from the friendly system of
satellites orbiting the Earth in geosynchronous orbit. The same technology
that helps you avoid getting lost also lets whomever controls the satellites
know exactly where you are while in your vehicle — and can follow your
movements precisely, in real-time, to within a few feet. The transponder in
your car is in constant contact with the system of satellites —the
all-seeing, never-blinking watchers in the sky.

When GPS-based navigational computers become commonplace in even low-end
cars, as they are expected to be within three years or so, it will be
possible to monitor the movements of almost every car on the road, worldwide,
24-hours a day.

Now, if that's not enough to creep you out, consider what our friends
the Brits are up to. According to a hair-raising report aired last month by
the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) and subsequently detailed in print by
the respected computer publication, Micro Times, The UK's deputy prime
minister, John Prescott, wants GPS-based electronic speed regulators for "all
cars within the next few years." Rather than just provide helpful travel
information, the onboard GPS system would interface with a specially coded
map that relays information about speed limits on each street to the
vehicle's engine computer — which in turn would prevent the vehicle from
being driven faster than those limits by throttling back the fuel and
ignition systems. Mr. Prescott wants the speed regulators to be required by
English law, so no new car could be sold without the technology.

This is more than just idle talk. Bear in mind that Mr. Prescott is a
high government official — which is bad enough — but also that his nifty idea
has been shown to work as a practical matter.

According to the BBC, a functional prototype has undergone three years
of development and testing by the Motor Industry Research Association and
Leeds University researchers — with funding coming from the British
government. The results have been sufficiently positive that England's
Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions "is expected to
recommend the system by phased in over a decade," according to the BBC and
Micro Times.

The basics — the ring of GPS satellites; the navigational computers and
transponders — all exist and have been in use by General Motors, Acura, BMW
and Mercedes, among others, for years. Adding the specially digitized road
maps with speed-limit information would not — is not — a major technical
hurdle. Not only can it be done — it is being done.

And the masses don't seem to be bothered a bit by the darker side of
those friendly computer chips that are encrusting our lives like
silicon-based Kudzu. Is it paranoiac to observe that we are arguably drifting
gently into a world of near-constant surveillance? There are cameras
everywhere. Photo radar and speed enforcement have tested the waters — and
the public, in general, has not squealed much about the implicit threat to
basic privacy these intrusions imply. Surely, they will accept transponders
in their cars without much protest, too. As they say, if you're not violating
the law, what have you got to hide?

True, this business is for the moment an English-only worry. But bear
in mind that a whole bushel of bad ideas has come to use from our friends in
the United Kingdom, and it's a sure bet that certain personages in certain
quarters of the United States government are deliciously aware of what is
going on in England and rubbing their hands together in gleeful anticipation.

Presidential contender Al Gore, for one, is likely on that particular
short list.

That brings us back to technology and the duality of our wonderful
inventions. It's interesting that so many hacks in the journalistic
establishment who abjure, for example, handguns, as inherently dangerous
implements that must always be regarded with extreme suspicion, cannot also
see the threat presented by other man-made devices — and fear (or respect)
them accordingly, as well.

Maybe the "inventor" of the Internet — Mr. Gore — can assuage our fears
in this regard.
Somehow, though, I doubt he will.

See the current issue of Prevailing Winds magazine
(www.prevailingwinds.org) for a great article about the total corruption
of George “Dubya” Bush and his brothers, father and uncle. This well
documented article is by Jack Colhoun, the author of the definitive book
on the Bush family, “The Family that Preys Together.”

It seems that the Bush boys have had plenty of shadowy business partners
and deals over the years. Often the business partners were connected to
the CIA, secret wars, drug smuggling, the Mafia and covert operations.
In return for a share of the booty that these creeps would provide, the
Bush brothers provided political access to, and favors from, their
father when he was in the White House.

Consider Palmer National Bank of Washington, DC. Read the report of
investigative reporter Pete Brewton, who did a long series of articles
on CIA links to organized crime and failed savings loans for the
_Houston Post_. Brewton reported that Palmer National channeled money
to a Swiss bank account for Oliver North so that he could skirt the
Boland Amendment and illegally fund the terrorist operations of the
Contras in Nicaragua.

Palmer National was established by two former presidential campaign aids
of George Bush Sr. One of them was later rewarded with an appointment
as deputy director of the State Department’s Bureau of Politico-Military
Affairs, in the Reagan-Bush administration.

Or consider the $77 million loan that E. Trine Starnes was granted from
the Silverado Savings and Loan, on whose board of directors was Neil
Bush. The loan was never paid back. Nor were hundreds of millions of
dollars in other loans ever paid back. Instead the tab was picked up by
the American taxpayers. And what did the Bush and Reagan
administrations get in return? Well, it seems that E. Trine Starnes was
a major ‘donor’ to the “National Endowment for the Preservation of
Liberty” (NEPL), which figured large in Oliver North’s Contra funding
operation. And where did the NEPL have their bank account? Surprise,
surprise, they kept their money at Palmer National Bank.

And how do we explain the great effort of Jeb Bush to get his dad, the
prez, to help free the anti-Castro terrorist, Orlando Bosch from a Miami
jail? Bosch had been convicted of masterminding the explosion that
brought down a Cuban commercial airliner over Barbados, killing 73
people. He had also been convicted of shooting a bazooka at a ship in
the Miami harbor. Perhaps part of the reason for Jeb fighting for his
release lies in the fact that Bosch was the leader of an organization
that was responsible for more than 50 anti-Castro bombings in Cuba. I
guess Jeb figured that if he was going to be a successful politician in
south Florida, this is what he’d have to do. Plus, he knew that his
dad, the president of the U.S., who was already helping to arrange
funding for anti-communist terrorists (the Contras), would love to see
the Castro regime collapse.

Jeb, in fact, was the Reagan administration’s unofficial link with the
Contras in Miami. He was the go-between for Contra supporters and the
Reagan White House.

President Bush’s brother Prescott was another helper in the Reagan
administration’s clandestine support of the terrorist Contras. As was
Bush’s other son, Marvin.

And then there is the matter of George “Dubya” violation of Securities
and Exchange (SEC) regulations that require “insider” stock deals to be
reported promptly. One week after Dubya, a director at Harken, sold all
of his $848,560 worth of stock in Harken Energy Corporation (thereby
quadrupling his money), Harken announced a $23 million loss in quarterly
earnings. The company’s stock lost 60% of its value over the next 6
months. According to U.S. News World Report (March 16, 1992), “there
is substantial evidence to suggest that Bush knew Harken was in dire
straits in the weeks before he sold the $848,560 of Harken stock.” Pity
the poor ignorant schmucks who bought all that doomed stock from Dubya.
They essentially paid for his gain. They were, in the eyes of the SEC,
robbed.

And this is the man we would elect to the presidency of the United
States?

Divine Intervention: the Story of the Luciferian Conspiracy and God's
Solutions is a fearless inquiry into the original source of fear, guilt and
shame, and challenges dearly held beliefs. The destructive mental and
emotional condition on planet Earth is used as an example of the dark force
energy and its hold on Earth and her inhabitants today.

What happened in those innocent times when creation was young and man/woman
was without human form? Where did evil originate? How do we free ourselves
from bondage? These questions and others which have challenged great
spiritual leaders and deep thinkers throughout the ages are presented within
the pages of Divine Intervention in a manner and style this reviewer found
refreshingly bold and insightful.

As the ancient story of creation and its original intent weaves its way
through Divine Intervention, we hear from the Ancient Spiritual Hierarchy
comprised of The Source, Mother Mary, Sananda, Archangel Michael, Ashtar, and
Mother Earth. How we got where we are and how we get back to where we belong
(connected to the Source) is the lesson they teach.

Affirming Spirit as humanity's true identity and taking a step toward The
Source is a powerful statement made throughout Divine Intervention . Adriene
Wentworth's compassion for healing and teaching others to heal themselves is
exemplified in powerful affirmations at the end of each chapter. The reader
is urged to pray, forgive and affirm in order to self-heal and assist Mother
Earth in the coming major earth changes.

Simply written and beautifully presented, this reviewer was further convinced
that Divine Intervention could be used with young people to convey
complicated spiritual ideas. Make Divine Intervention #1 on your book list as
a gift for yourself, or for someone else.

From the Author

I began my spiritual journey when I was twenty-two. I constantly had
experiences with the psychic realms that I didn't understand. Those
experiences motivated me to seek out spiritual teachers and knowledge to help
me cope and understand what was happening to me. I feel very blessed to have
been guided to two Himalayan Masters who shared their knowledge and skills
with me. I traveled to India, studied with these Masters and completed
intensive training in Jnana Yoga (the path of knowledge and intellect),
Bhakti Yoga (the path of love and devotion), Raja Yoga (the path of
discipline and meditation), and Kundalini Yoga (the path of primal force).
These Masters kept close watch over my spiritual process, guided me to God
Consciousness and stayed with me until I could comfortably reach this
Consciousness on my own.

During this period I had numerous blissful spiritual experiences as my
kundalini energy rose higher and higher, yet these experiences were sometimes
mixed with frightening encounters with astral entities and powerful negative
forces. This disturbed me deeply and I began searching for the cause of this
interference and what could prevent it. The spiritual community wasn't much
help and warned me not to delve into these matters. My continued prayers for
guidance

God Chip Fun and Right-On Sci-FiJune 21, 2000

Reviewer: Jim Gibons from Santa Rosa, California
Here is a book which is as irreverent as a black mass on Easter Sunday! It is
also slick and imaginative science fiction with all the elements of fine
literary pedigree, with depth of character and a fine plot, in a fast-paced
narrative running along in short, snappy chapters, all the while achieving a
sharp timbre that delves into age-old philosophical questions. Sanders could
be called the Tom Robbins of outer space. Or the Philip Roth of inner space,
because even though this is futuristic fiction, there is a permeating fear
that technology, in its lock-step march towards progress, is sucking the very
soul from human beings. In fact, you can no longer be quite sure which ones
are the people, and which ones the machines. Herbert Stump is our (poor)
protagonist. He's assigned duty aboard the Spaceship Starfarer, not as a
brilliant scientist or navigator or pilot or commando. Herb's problem
is...Herb. He'd as soon read poetry as make love, and he's along on this
scientific journey to Jupiter and The Outer Rim to...take notes. He accepts
the assignment dutifully, even though he has been diagnosed with romantic
dementia, a condition comparable to information overload in our time. His
illness is precipitated by an inability to keep up with and adjust to
technology. The disorder affects the mind in debilitating ways, most notably
in areas relating to sex. To make matters worse, there seems to be something
wrong with the sun (increased luminosity), the Captain has been decapitated
and keeps complaining about it as his severed head sails freely around the
ship on a small flying saucer. And the woman who might solve Herb's romantic
dementia may or may not be human. Notwithstanding, Herb struggles along
valiantly on his hunt for truth and beauty. But even truth and beauty are no
longer what they seem. Love, sexuality, power, and even history itself are
re-defined. Time follows no lines. Space comes and goes. What is The God
Chip? The secret of the book, of course. Perhaps the secret of the universe.

God Chip Conspiracy is a Winner!May 26, 2000

Reviewer: raechael troch from denver co
The God Chip Conspiracy is that rarest of finds: new and original science
fiction! Reminiscent of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Red Dwarf, it
uses hard science and explores profound themes while transcending ordinary
sci-fi and fantasy plots. Add a clear simple style and a natural comedic tone
to the mixture and you come up with a winner! I stayed up all night to read
The God Chip Conspiracy as each new chapter added plot twists leading to
bigger and bolder ideas. The surprises kept coming right up to the
climax--what a climax! I laughed and I cried as the unlikely hero, Herbert
Stump, traveled through space and time seeking salvation and relief from
romantic dementia. The stakes keep getting higher, until he finds himself in
a battle to save humanity. And save us he does; complete with a backup copy!
Bold and irreverent, The God Chip Conspiracy is a must read. Even if you are
not a science fiction fan, you'll enjoy this novel. Two thumbs up, way up!

Introduction

[...]

Conspiracy research and analysis is evidently an important
component of power structure research and analysis. History has
vital prosopographic elements, many hidden, and the organization
of this establishment indeed constitutes a conspiracy. The
vagaries of individuals prominent in the establishment have broad
effects that echo through history.

[...]

The establishment program is not quite a traditional conspiracy.
Like many, its members do not all know each other, have sometimes
conflicting conceptions of what is to be done, and have sometimes
conflicting agendas. From here, the distinctions mount. It is a
largely ``open'' conspiracy, in that much of its membership,
structure, methods, and operations, are matters of public record,
however scattered and obscure. Its manner of coordination is
atypical. Two nuclei - the core of the Wall Street clique
(orbiting the House of Rockefeller) and the core of the European
financial clique (orbiting the House of Rothschild) - coordinate
the global establishment program by waging psychological warfare
on the rest of the establishment, telling each member no more
than is necessary for him to fulfill his envisioned role, often
with explicit recognition neither of his role, nor of the
unarticulated rules that govern him. Thus, the overwhelming bulk
of the establishment does not know, but only suspects, that it is
part of and in service to ``a power somewhere so organized, so
subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive,
that they had better not speak above their breath when they speak
in condemnation of it'' (quoting Woodrow Wilson).

The establishment leaders' vision is to transform world political
and legal reality so that the historic role of the nation-state
is played by largely sovereign transnational corporate trusts, to
which nation-states are subordinate. Their envisioned seat of
world government is not a United Nations but a United Trusts, a
transnational oligarchy ruling from behind closed doors. This is
the role for which Bilderberg fancies itself suited. Revealing
this rather directly, David Rockefeller (in Newsweek
International, 1999-Feb-1) said ``[...] somebody has to take
governments' place, and business seems to me to be a logical
entity to do it.'' In order to empower a global banking,
regulatory, and managerial infrastructure, they cultivate
economic interdependence at scales from the household to the
multinational region, to a degree that cannot be justified by
appeal to efficiency or profit advantages. Central to the vision
is the economic and eugenical regimentation of world society. The
plan, in summary, is paternalistic, feudalistic, oligarchical,
techno-industrial world government.

The establishment's vision is substantially implemented, in each
of its facets, today. They now seek only to make their control
more precise and complete, its exercise less unwieldy and
risk-laden, and its instruments and infrastructure more permanent
and unchallengeable.

[...]

The establishment protects its interests by cultivating public
indifference and incredulity, or outright endorsement of an
operational facet (manufacturing consent through the
media-democracy engine), as regularly as by conspiratorial
secrecy, skullduggery, and foul play. Feeling insulted, and often
sensing impending humiliation and mental bankruptcy, the
indoctrinated public rejects the revelations of wise dissenters.

The establishment employs an old and effective method: lead
others to error, then exploit their errors. In a market, any time
a participant systematically errs - systematically deviates from
pure self-interest - another participant who identifies that
pattern of error can profit from it. Expanding this principle to
the world stage, the establishment works tirelessly to lead
people to systematically abandon self-interest, so that it can
profit from their error. This collection of essays and articles
can be viewed as a documentary of the errors of the
establishment, and it is part of my program to exploit these
errors, hastening the extinction of the establishment.

[...]

The neo-orthodoxy and concatenated censorship-by-category of
``Political Correctness,'' briefly and still occasionally a
subject of conscious contemplation and public commentary, has
been so thoroughly consolidated that its dictates are now
silently, automatically, and ubiquitously enforced, usually at a
subconscious level. Free thought and speech are increasingly
perilous indulgences. The intellectual totalitarianism of
Political Correctness, having burrowed below the

Re: [CTRL] Dubya the Bush boys -- how corrupt are they?

2000-07-18 Thread Aleisha Saba

Read once that all Mellons and Mellon Heirs, all Rockefellers and
Rockefeller heirs, all Morgans, and Morgan Heirs, all are Masons and all
are or were, OSS which then went into CIA - this is the Family, sitting
above the government operated official CIA - and now, let us include the
Bush and Bush Heirs, as Masonic and CIA. George W. Bush Sr. was a
young fighter pilot during the war and a war hero.

Thought everybody forgot about Neil Bush - now nobody could be as dumb
as these sons of Bush and come out on their feet without being involved
in something a little - well over and above our government.

A government within a government? And above that the Secret Rulers?
Today the old line are being slowly replaced and these men are not quite
as honest and respectible as the old line.

Things change; in WWII the OSS - a necessary force in this country.

Things change and today they have tail wagging doggie? And as a
result the heads of dogs are wounded over many countries for in nearly
every country in the world you find a masonic order.after all,
its all in the family?

Wonder about three Kings now and then - do you think someday they will
want Americans to bend on their knees before them?

Zulu Kings and look at Mugabee - these people hate America and this
powerful family called The Family - the select few at the top -so long
as they have been the invisible government we have been their victims.

But in all the smoke screen a picture is emerging and believe me, as
for the Illuminati, why even God knew where the gold was.Genesis is
key to Illuminati.

Imagine that you had your own special bank account:
Every day your account is credited One Thousand,
Four Hundred Forty dollars.
Any unspent money disappears at the end of the day.
You would do your best to spend every dollar of it, right?
You wouldn't want all that money to go to waste, right?
If you didn't need it, you would still get it just to give away, right?
After all, whatever you didn't spend would be gone at the end of the day.
Well, you might not have your own bank with $1440 per day,
but you do have one resource that should not be wasted: Your time.
There are One Thousand, Four Hundred Forty minutes in a day.
You can't save any minutes for the next day.
You can either use them or waste them.
You can spend the time yourself, or you can share your time.
So, please, Make the best use of every Minute.

  ACTION ALERT:
News-Slanting Union Buster Is Candidate for Journalism Ethics Post

ACTION: Please let Harvard University know whether you think Robert
Giles is
an appropriate candidate for the Nieman Foundation job. You can contact
Harvard president Neil Rudenstine, who will make the final decision,
through
  his assistant's e-mail:

  July 17, 2000

Robert Giles, former editor and publisher of the Detroit News, is a
leading
candidate for the position of curator at Harvard's Nieman Foundation for
Journalism. The prospect of Giles overseeing a center that teaches media
ethics has alarmed many of those familiar with his role in the
long-running
labor dispute at the News and the Detroit Free Press, which has been
jointly
operated with the News since 1989.

More than 2,000 reporters, mailers, printers and circulation workers,
represented by six unions, walked out in July 1995, citing management
demands for givebacks on healthcare and the attempt to impose a "merit
pay"
system after a six-year wage freeze. The National Labor Relations Board
(NLRB) upheld the unions' charges of unfair labor practices and called
for
strikers to be re-hired, but management refused to fire the "permanent
replacement" workers they had brought in. The NLRB's ruling was recently
overturned by the conservative D.C. Court of Appeals.

  Skewed Coverage

Much of the controversy around Giles' Nieman appointment focuses on the
question of whether he oversaw slanted coverage of the strike during his
tenure. (Giles left the News/Free Press in 1997.) It's clear that the
papers
did print some laughably skewed stories, like "Newspaper Strikers Urged
to
Bring Kids to Picket Lines" (Detroit News, 5/5/96), which detailed the
psychological damage picketers were inflicting on their children.

One former News reporter says that that story wasn't just slanted, it
was
false. Now at the Washington Post, Allan Lengel says strikers never
planned
to take their children out of school, and the author of the story knew
it.
Other reporters removed their byline from stories, or asked to be taken
off
the strike beat, after having stories changed by editors to reflect a
more
  pro-management line (Harvard Crimson, 7/7/00).

Columbia Journalism Review (11-12/95) called the News and Free Press
coverage of their own labor dispute "strikingly tilted," a charge Giles
didn't deny, claiming he felt that the newspapers had "to balance the
story"
since "the unions, in our judgment, really have had a sort of platform
to
present their positions without any meaningful challenge." (Editor
  Publisher, 3/96)

"I Wanted It to Occur on My Watch"

Some of Giles' defenders seem to suggest that breaking a union is just
part
of a publisher's job, making Giles just an unlucky victim of what
Oregonian
editor Sandra Mims Rowe called "the known difficulties of labor and
management" (Boston Globe 7/6/00). "In Detroit he happened to be in the
wrong place at the wrong time," concurs Newsweek's Ellis Cose (Harvard
Crimson, 6/30/00). "It becomes a question of whether you hold that
against
  him or not."

Giles himself now pronounces the Detroit strike "a very difficult thing
for
me...very tough, very hostile." (Boston Globe, 7/6/00) But he appeared
to
relish his role while in the thick of it, issuing hardline statements
like,
"We're going to hire a whole new workforce and go on without unions, or
they
can surrender unconditionally and salvage what they can." (Cleveland
Plain
Dealer, 9/2/95) Far from feeling he was in the wrong place at the wrong
time, Giles told the Society of Professional Journalists, "I wanted it
to
occur on my watch. I believe deeply in what we're doing." (South Bend
  Tribune, 5/16/96)

And Giles had no qualms about using his own paper to express those deep
beliefs, penning a bizarre commentary (Detroit News, 3/10/96) in which
he
called religious community protests in support of the strike "a parody
that
mocked the ideals of civil disobedience," because "the civil rights
movement
sought to create change and reform. The newspaper strike seeks to resist
change and reform." Giles went on to claim that it was management who,
by
permanently replacing striking workers, was truly following the
tradition
  of Martin Luther King Jr.

[CTRL] homophobia a disease

2000-07-18 Thread J Taylor

 http://www.thewandererpress.com/

CDC declares "homophobia" a "disease": Nationally syndicated Los Angeles
KLTX radio talk show host Jane Chastain revealed that the U.S. government's
Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta has declared homophobia a "health
risk."

The world's most popular Internet news service, WorldNetDaily, reported
on
Chastain's February 7 broadcast, in which the talk-show host said:

". . . The Centers for Disease Control, the official health arm of the
federal government, used the word [homophobia] for the first time last
month
with an implied definition that would please the most radical members of
the
gay community. Dr. Paul Cameron, the psychologist who heads the Family
Research Institute in Colorado Springs, stumbled upon this passage in the
CDC's 'Morbidity and Mortality Report' for the week of January 14. On page
10 of this publication, under the heading 'HIV/AIDS Among Racial/Minority
Men Who Have Sex With Men,' we have this revelation:

" 'Race/ethnicity itself is not a risk factor for HIV infection. However,
among racial/ethic minority MSM [men who have sex with men] social and
economic factors, such as homophobia, high rates of poverty and
unemployment, and lack of access to health care, are associated with high
rates of HIV risk behavior.'

"The definition of homophobia, as it is used here, came farther down in
the passage: 'Within racial/ethnic minority communities, the stigma
attached
to acknowledging homosexual and bisexual activity may inhibit racial/ethic
minority MSM from identifying themselves as homosexual or bisexual and they
may be more likely to identify with their racial/ethnic minority community
than with the MSM community.'

"When you put these two paragraphs together, you have the complete
picture
the CDC is presenting here: Those with homophobia do not accept
homosexuality. Homophobic people, therefore, present a health risk. This is
not the first time this term has been used or implied by a federal agency.
During the seven years of the Clinton administration, we have seen it pop
up
now and then, but this is the first time it has been used by the Centers
for
Disease Control, which has dictatorial powers on life and death matters. .
.
. Robert H. Knight, director of Cultural Studies at the Family Research
Council, in Washington, D.C., believes the problem is twofold: 'If
conservatives don't pick up on this assertion that homophobia is a private
and public health problem, churches could lose their tax-exempt status,
religious broadcasters could lose their licenses. The CDC also is paving
the
way for making mere opposition to homosexuality to be deemed a hate
crime'."

Chastain quoted Dr. Jeffrey Satinover, a psychiatrist, as explaining:
"What the CDC is trying to do is characterize anyone who has an objection
to
homosexuality as disturbed and a public health threat."

U.S. to Kill Vermont Sheep Over 'Mad Cow' Fears

 By Kevin Kelley

EAST WARREN, Vt. (Reuters) - Three Vermont flocks of sheep have been
ordered destroyed by U.S. agriculture officials, who say the 376 animals
could be carrying mad cow disease.

Owners of the two biggest flocks, however, downplayed that danger
Monday and said they deserved millions of dollars for the loss of their
 livelihood.

The government order, which cannot be appealed, came after tests on four
slaughtered animals proved positive for transmissible spongiform
 encephalopathy, or TSE.

TSE includes scrapie, a disease of sheep not considered a threat to
humans, and ``mad cow'' disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy
(BSE), which has been linked to an invariably fatal brain-wasting disease in
people known as new-variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. It will take years
to determine which disease is involved in the Vermont case, the U.S.
 Agriculture Department said.

Mad cow disease was first reported in Britain in 1986. The British outbreak
may have resulted from feeding cattle sheep-meat-and-bone-meal infected
 with scrapie.

The Vermont sheep flocks targeted for slaughter were built up with sheep
imported from Belgium and the Netherlands in 1996. Two years later, the
Agriculture Department learned it was likely that the sheep had been
exposed to feed contaminated with mad cow disease while in Europe, and
 the flocks were quarantined.

But milk from the sheep had been sold, as had cheese made from the milk.
``Some offspring of these these animals were (also) slaughtered for human
consumption,'' according to the Agriculture Department, which said it was
working with federal and Vermont agencies ``to determine if there are any
 associated human health concerns.''

No Mad Cow Cases In U.S.

No cases of mad cow disease have been diagnosed in the United States,
but as a precaution, the Food and Drug Administration banned most uses
of mammal proteins in feed for cows, sheep, goats and other ruminant
 animals in June 1997.

The Agriculture Department officials said one Vermont sheep farmer, with
21 animals, had accepted the government's decision and had agreed to
the payment of whatever compensation it thought appropriate. But two
flocks, totaling 355 animals, were being destroyed over the owners'
 objections, the officials noted.

One of the protesting owners, Larry Faillace, who holds a doctoral degree
in animal physiology, described tests like those performed on the
 slaughtered sheep as unreliable.

And the other farmer, Houghton Freeman, maintained that ''the chances of
someone getting sick from these sheep are the same as being hit by an
 asteroid on your front porch.''

But department spokesman Andy Solomon said: ``It is necessary for us to
act with an abundance of caution. The potential impact of any strain of TSE
making its way through American livestock could be very costly.''

The Agriculture Department has asked independent appraisers to
determine the fair market value of the sheep so compensation can be paid
 before their destruction and incineration.

Faillace suggested he should get $11.3 million, which he calculated as the
total worth of his business. He termed his imported East Frisian dairy
sheep ``irreplaceable in the United States'' and said his livelihood would be
 ruined by the government action.

Freeman also said he should be paid ``millions of dollars'' in
 compensation for his investments.

Recovery Nation: Is AA Threatening Your Freedom?

The nightmare begins with a malicious workplace rumor. A spiteful (and mendacious)
co-worker fingers you as an excessive tippler leading management to give you a strict
ultimatum: find another job or attend nightly meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).

With this brief administrative hearing, you abruptly enter the Kafkaesque world of
12-step coercion. Despite your lack of a drinking problem, economic necessity compels
you to join the growing number of addicts and non-addicts alike being conscripted in
record numbers to submit to AA’s crypto-biblical "Big Book."

According Chaz Bufe and Stanton Peele's book Resisting 12-Step Coercion (See Sharp
Press, 2000), every year an estimated 1,000,000 Americans are compelled to attend AA,
Narcotics Anonymous (NA) or some form of 12-step treatment under threat of jail time,
loss of employment, or other social sanctions. While you might consider yourself
outside the purview of this powerful social force, think again.
"A young man working in a mail room tested positive for marijuana use in a random drug
test. He was suspended from his job until he completed a drug treatment program,"
recounts Peele. The unfortunate youth who allegedly smoked the illicit herb "once a
month" was in "constant conflict" with his counsellors, who demanded he admit he was
"powerless" over his alleged addiction. This obvious attempt to pressure a
recreational pot smoker into believing he was a remorseless drug fiend underscores the
involuntary 12-stepper's plight.

Nevertheless, since its 1935 inception, the abstinence-based program which involves
admitting your powerlessness over addiction and turning your life over to a "higher
power" continues to enjoy unqualified public acclaim as a panacea for a variety of
addictions. However, a growing number of outspoken critics are openly questioning the
merits of 12-step orthodoxy.

In his seminal work Alcoholics Anonymous: Cult or Cure? (See Sharp Press, 1998), Chaz
Bufe employs a wealth of scientific data to dispute both the efficacy of AA and its
adherents espoused "disease model" of addiction. He specifically assails the
organization's dogmatism, "chosen people" mentality, and the use of anti-intellectual
"thought stopping language" to indoctrinate new members. These behaviors, Bufe notes,
aren't "in the same league with vicious, destructive religious cults such as the
Moonies and the People’s Temple" but do exhibit "an alarmingly high number of
similarities to such groups."

This assessment borderlines on the subversive when considering the vast influence
wielded by AA in government circles. The federally-funded National Council on
Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) which actively promotes 12-step treatment
methods, has played a vital role in AA and NA's predominance in both Employee
Assistance Programs (EAP's) and many lucrative public and private sector rehab
facilities.

Yet to its detractors, this wealthy and influential organization constitutes an
effective prohibition lobby propaganda voice. "Together, the war on drugs and its flip
side, the 12-step addiction treatment industry, have threatened to transform America
from a land of the free into a therapeutic state," declares Jack Trimpey, founder of
Rational Recovery, a program which uses non 12-step methods to conquer addiction.
This is not to say there is anything inherently wrong with the many communal,
store-front AA and NA chapters which provide a viable (and low cost) resource for
those seeking chemical dependency liberation. However, when the state enters the
picture, these seemingly benign 12-step programs quickly become re-education camps for
drug war miscreants while providing an effective tool for social control.
Hopefully, the emergence of alternative treatment programs will offer greater choice
to those seeking to end the vicious substance abuse cycle. We may then end our
long-standing reliance on this singular treatment method that seeks to indoctrinate
addicts and non-addicts alike.

Associated Press Writer

WACO, Texas (AP) _ An attorney for the Branch Davidians says it
would be ``a lost cause'' to continue trying to convince a judge
that U.S. federal agents fired on sect members as they tried to
escape their burning compound during a 1993 siege.

An advisory jury hearing the Davidians' dlrs 675 million wrongful
death lawsuit determined Friday that the U.S. government bears no
responsibility for the deaths of sect leader David Koresh and some
80 followers in the final hours of the 51-day standoff.

U.S. District Judge Walter Smith will issue the final ruling,
expected in the next month, and will also consider perhaps the most
contentious issue _ whether federal agents shot at the Davidians
at the end of the siege. But Davidian lawyers, survivors and victims'
family members say they aren't expecting any change.

``I think a vast majority of the American public will take this as
the final word,'' Michael Caddell, lead counsel for the plaintiffs,
said.

Caddell said he doesn't plan to file any more documents in the case
and will tell the judge to make his decision based on the evidence
in hand.

``Given what's happened in Waco with Judge Smith, we don't see the
point. It's a lost cause. Judge Smith obviously has an agenda. At
some point, it simply becomes futile,'' Caddell told The Associated
Press.

The siege began on a Sunday morning, Feb. 28, 1993, when agents
from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms tried to
search the Davidian's Mount Carmel complex and arrest Koresh on
illegal weapons charges. Six Davidians and four ATF agents were
killed in the ensuing shootout that day.

The standoff ended seven weeks later with the deaths of some 80
men, women and children, some from gunshots and other from the fire
that quickly engulfed the compound hours into a tear-gassing
operation designed to drive them out and end the siege.

Surviving Branch Davidians and relatives of those who died contend
the government should shoulder some blame for the botched initial
raid and holocaust at the end.

But the five-member jury, after deliberating 2 1/2 hours, determined
the government didn't use excessive force during the raid and was
not negligent in violating a plan by driving tanks into the compound.

The jury also had been asked whether agents contributed to or spread
the fires or violated a directive to have firefighting equipment
on the scene.

There were no loud protests after the verdict. Ten miles (16
kilometers) east of Waco, where a chapel has been built on the site
of the destroyed compound, the only sounds came from birds and a
tree branch rattling in the breeze.

Ron Goins, 45, who has been studying the Bible with surviving
members of the sect for the past two years, said few Davidians held
out much hope of a favorable verdict.

Goins added he was disappointed the jury came to its conclusion so
fast. ``That's not a chance to look over anything or review
anything,'' he said.

Present-day Davidians who gather each Saturday for services at the
chapel believed the jurors and the judge had gone into the trial
with their minds made up. It wasn't emphasized enough how the
Davidians were violated and harassed, Goins said.

During the trial, the government contended that ATF agents were
ambushed by heavily armed Davidians at the start of the raid and
that suicidal members of the group set the fires themselves on the
final day.

Clive Doyle, who was one of nine people who escaped the inferno
and is one of the plaintiffs in the wrongful-death case, maintained
that the government's version of what happened in 1993 in untrue.

``I would've been surprised if the jury ruled in favor of us,'' he
said. ``It's kind of like the Kennedy assassination. You have the
official version and you have what everybody else believes.''

Either way, the trial had served some purpose for the Davidians,
Goins said.

``What they were hopeful about was getting the facts out. We can't
bring the people back. The people are dead,'' he said.

``There was some sort of closure because we got to speak our mind.''

Commentary: Drug profits claim many as addicts

By KRIS MILLEGAN

'YES, VIRGINIA, there is an octopus.' " Interesting words from a lady who
raised $100,000 for George Bush.

"There are more people in America addicted to drug money than there are
addicted to drugs," Catherine Austin Fitts said. "Most of us don't even know
that we are addicted - but whether through the stock market or the banking
system or the financing that helps us create jobs, we are."

Catherine's stance is, "If we, the people, can face it ... God can fix it."

Here I was, a guy from Noti, lunching with a former assistant secretary of
the Department of Housing and Urban Development in the Bush administration
and talking about the U.S. intelligence communities' role in the
international narcotics trade and the ramifications for families in
communities throughout America.

The day before, there was breakfast with a former Drug Enforcement Agency
agent and a former Los Angeles police officer who regaled the table with
tales about a netherworld of factions "fighting" for hundreds of billions of
dollars; "wet-boys" (hired killers) and death threats; an ex-cocaine cartel
leader in the federal witness protection program "running dope to the
Russians;" and "shill" lawyers who destroy cases, gag witnesses and bankrupt
supporting citizens.

These extra encounters were the icing on top of a full day of amazing
revelations and eyewitness accounts of corruption and official malfeasance
relayed to attendees at last month's CIA-Drugs Symposium at the Lane County
Fairgrounds.

The weekend left me with a lot to digest - and wishing that more people in
Eugene had heard the presentations or benefited from more coverage in the
news.

What did those who attended learn? A typical reaction came in an e-mail
message:

"After planning to attend for a few hours in the morning, I ended up staying
for the whole time. It was a paradigm transforming experience for me, even
though I have been interested in drug policy for a decade."

The scope of the corruption presented was chilling, involving both major
political parties and our major financial players. The theme that ran
throughout was the extent to which the profits from drugs flow through the
economy like the blood that flows through our bodies.

The four top states for the importation of illegal narcotics are New York,
Florida, California and Texas. Those are also the states with the highest
concentration of money laundering, as well as the reinvestment of laundered
funds in legal businesses - in mergers and acquisitions and in venture
capital.

Those are also the states from where 80 percent of all the presidential
campaign contributions originate. Hundreds of millions of dollars are being
spent for a position that pays only $200,000 a year, but which controls the
allocation of trillions in government contracts and subsidies.

The office also influences the regulations and legislation that can make or
break a business - not to mention the intelligence, enforcement and
prosecution agencies that wield the power to indict and convict and, some
say, even to kill.

Our addiction to drug profits is powerful because of our need to support our
staggering debt load both here and abroad. The bankers know that the interest
on many of their international loans is being paid with narco-dollars, now
estimated to be as high as a half-trillion dollars a year.

These narco-dollars moving around the world are in demand at bargain rates
and infect the integrity of our markets.

One of the best books on the history of the drug trade is Carl Trocki's
"Opium, Empire and the Global Economy." Trocki helps put events in a
historical perspective. More than a few private and political fortunes
amassed through the centuries in America and globally were made with
prohibited drugs in concert with organized crime.

" ... the drug traffic ... restructures the social and economic terrain in
the process. Two major effects are the creation of mass markets and the
generation of enormous ... unprecedented, cash flows. (Which) results in the
concentrated accumulation of vast pools of wealth. (Which) have been among
the primary foundations of global capitalism and the modern nation-state
itself. Indeed, it may be argued that the entire rise of the West, from 1500
to 1900, depended on a series of drug trades ... and fed the institutions
that accumulated it: the banking and financial systems, the insurance systems
and the transportation and information infrastructures."

Some news from the CIA-Drugs Symposium was ominous. Efforts to ensure that
Colombia's rich flow of profits are cycled back th

A SERIOUS New Spyware Threat ...
NetZip's "Download Demon" was purchased by Real Networks and renamed "Real
Download". then Netscape/AOL licensed it from Real and called it "Netscape
Smart Download."
By watching the "packet traffic" flowing in and out of one of my machines
while downloading a file through the Internet, I verified the rumors which
you may have heard regarding these programs: All of these programs
immediately tag your computer with a unique ID, after which EVERY SINGLE
FILE you download from ANYWHERE on the Internet (even places that might not
be anyone else's business) is immediately reported back to the program's
source where it is logged and recorded along with your machine's unique ID.
They also have the opportunity to capture and record your machine's unique
Internet IP address.
This information is then compiled and used to create
a detailed "profile" about who you are based upon the
web sites you visit and the files you have downloaded.

Perhaps you don't mind being watched and tracked as you move around the
Internet ... and then having every file you download logged and cataloged
and used to assemble "your profile". But the idea of this seems extremely
invasive to me, and unless you have carefully read the program's license you
might not be aware that this is going on or that "you agreed to it" when you
accepted the terms of the license!
More than 14 Million people are already using the original NetZip Download
Demon. NetZip knows the exact number, since every copy of their program
"phones home" to report on what their users are doing! And I'm sure people
are downloading Real Network's ReadDownload and Netscape's SmartDownload
like crazy. A Class Action lawsuit was recently filed against Netscape/AOL
because of this privacy invasion, so perhaps the PC industry will begin to
receive the message that this sort of secret spying and profiling is not
okay with the rest of us, even if it is buried within a lengthy license
agreement. You decide. And, of course, the next release of my own OptOut
spyware detection and removal utility WILL consider these programs to be
dangerous, and warn its users of their presence in their systems. But I
wanted to be sure that you knew RIGHT AWAY what was going on, and that I had
independently confirmed that this invasive file download tracking really was
occurring.

[CTRL] Gulf Coast probable location for next West Nile outbreak

2000-07-18 Thread Eagle 1

mosquitoes.

Gulf Coast probable location for next West Nile outbreak
Scientists say birds have carried virus across U.S. By DEBORA
MACKENZIE Copyright 2000 New Scientist

The bird virus that killed seven New Yorkers last year has now spread all
over the Americas, say U.S. researchers. They warn that the Gulf Coast of the
United States will probably see the next outbreak of West Nile virus.
Despite the threat, U.S. authorities have so far failed to provide the
research funding to keep tabs on the virus in wild birds. The scientists say
that scrupulous monitoring of bird populations is needed, otherwise it won't be
possible to identify and spray high-risk areas with insecticide to kill the
mosquitoes that transmit the virus to people.
The infection is endemic to Africa, Asia and Europe, where it resides
harmlessly in many bird species but kills others, according to Bob McLean, head
of the National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, Wis.
Humans usually get the disease from mosquito bites when the population of
infected city birds is sufficiently large to infect enough mosquitoes. In 1997,
527 people in Bucharest, Romania, were ill with West Nile virus, and 50 died.
There is no specific treatment for the infection.
The virus may have reached New York last summer in a bird imported from
Israel. However, West Nile expert Zdanek Hubalek of the Czech Academy of
Sciences suggests it may have originally escaped from the Sloan-Kettering
Institute in New York, where in the 1950s a strain of the virus was given to 95
terminal cancer patients as an experimental treatment.
But there is evidence that the New York outbreak last summer, which killed
thousands of crows and caused encephalitis in 61 New Yorkers, seven of whom
died, resulted from a different strain. But what is certain, McLean says, is
that as early as last summer the virus had already spread to an alarming extent
in the New York area.
"It had already infected more than half the local geese and sparrows. That's
scary," McClean says.
And the discovery of the virus in birds in New York, New Jersey and Delaware
last month has dashed hopes that it would not survive the winter. John Rappole
and his colleagues at the Smithsonian Institution Zoo in Front Royal, Va., have
calculated that the virus would spread far and wide from New York if there were
susceptible migratory birds congregating on mosquito-infested wetlands nearby.
In this month's issue of Emerging Infectious Diseases, they and Hubalek report
that there are 77 migratory species there, including ducks, starlings, terns and
gulls, capable of carrying the virus.
"The virus is probably in every corner of North America by now" as well as
parts of South America, says Rappole. Another outbreak could occur anywhere
there are enough infected birds, possibly this summer.
"We think the next outbreak will be along the Gulf Coast, where northern
migrants remain concentrated," Rappole says.
"It is essential to capture and test healthy local birds to know where West
Nile poses a threat," McLean says. "Then mosquito spraying can be targeted to
protect people."
McLean's proposals to screen birds in the coming months have not yet been
funded. Eastern and Gulf states plan to test dead birds and "sentinel" chickens
-- caged birds used as an early warning system. But this is much less sensitive,
McLean warns. Caged chickens are less likely to encounter infected mosquitoes
than free-range birds.
But Stephen Ostroff of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in
Atlanta told New Scientist: "Extensive screening of wild birds in hopes of
finding the virus would not be cost-effective."

IRAN'S POWER AND THREAT

"This is a step forward in the Iranian buildup
of power, and, as a state that Iran says is the
devil and must be eradicated from the world,
we cannot be apathetic... We have to go up one,
two or even three levels in our defense
   abilities."
  Israeli Deputy Defense Minister
  Ephraim Sneh (15 July)

MID-EAST REALITIES (MER) - www.MiddleEast.Org - Washington - 17 July:
The Israelis are way dominant at the moment in every measure - military, economic,
political, intelligence. And that explains why the "agreement" being imposed on
the Palestinians through Yasser Arafat at Camp David is far closer to the long-rejected
"autonomy" formulations than to real Statehood.
But even so, the Israelis know there are more than 200 million Arabs and 1 billion
Muslims in this world; and yes they are worried, especially about Iran which a few
days ago tested the new medium range Shahab-3 missile. For the first time, with
Shahab-3 the Iranians have a weapon that can reach Israel; and they are expected
to have nuclear tips for it within a few years.
The Arabs have been nearly totally defeated, co-opted, manipulated, or destroyed.
Arab unity and the Arab League are jokes these days; and the Palestinians have been
pushed and twisted onto autonomous reservations over which they fly their flag and
however skeptically watch Arafat's pretenses to independence.
But the Iranians have yet to be so co-opted and continue to resist all the
inducements
and incentives to joining the Westernized new world order. Moreover, Iran continues
to represent both Islamic assertiveness and regional independence -- the two most
important forces opposing Western domination and Israeli regional supremacy.
Former Chief of Staff and commando General Ehud Barak knows all this all too
well, and in fact he is working overtime to consolidate various kinds of "peace
deals" with the neighboring weak Arab regimes, as well as with "Palestinian Authority",
knowing that a confrontation with Muslim, though not Arab, Iran may lie in the not
too distant future.
Indeed, it is instructive to remember that it was after Camp David I and the
deal with Egypt at that time that Israel made war on Lebanon and laid seige to Beirut,
as well as helped manipulate both Iraq's war against Iran and then the Gulf War
a decade later. So don't be too surprised if shortly after the declaration of a
Palestinian State coming out of Camp David II there is some kind of conflict with
Iran aiming to take down Iran's capability to produce and deliver weapons of mass
destruction, as was done with the attack on Iraq's Osirak nuclear reactor three
years after Camp David I. And with Israel's alliance with Turkey and India being
considerably strengthened these days, don't be too surprised if Pakistan gets drawn
in and hit in some way as well.
Indeed, this may in fact be the obscured meaning of Barak's comments from Camp
David on 15 July that "The power of the Israeli army and strengthening Israel through
peace agreements are the true answer to Shahab-3".

FBI Raids DOE Whistleblower's Home

FBI agents raided the home of Notra Trulock last Friday and
seized his computer hard drive.
Trulock, a former Department of Energy official who blew the
whistle on the Clinton administration's lax security of its
nuclear weapons secrets, became the target of the FBI after
he penned an article for the National Review strongly
critical of the Clinton administration and the FBI.

The FBI has claimed that Trulock's computer may contain
sensitive and classified data.

"Outrageous, just outrageous," Trulock told the National
Review yesterday, noting his article for the magazine
contained no classified material and that he had passed a
lie detector test demonstrating he had not shared such
information with anyone.

Trulock said FBI agents threatened to break down the door to
his home, which was opened by his landlady.

Since going public with allegations of DOE and Clinton
administration misconduct, Trulock has been a target for
government harassment.

Recently, Trulock was fired by TRW. He said a company
official said the DOE had pressured the firm to let him go.

[CTRL] The Pied Piper of Zionism: Chaim Weizmann

2000-07-18 Thread Yardbird

: Taken from page 16 - INSTAURATION Magazine, Vol. 22, No. 3, February 1997

: The Pied Piper of Zionism
: -

: Chaim Weizmann's autobiography, "Trial and Error", is a revelatory book. The
: first president of Israel, Weizmann was the infamous man more responsible
: than any other for the famous Balfour Declaration and the eventual founding
: of the Zionist state. "Trial and Error" is the story of the Zionist crusader
: from his earliest days in Czarist Russia to his globe-girdling interviews
: with the high and mighty.

: Weizmann presents the usual philo-Semitic view of Jewish suffering in the
: Pale of Settlement. Over and over he iterates, "Czarist persecution" as the
: sufficient reason for the "return" of Jews to Palestine. At the same time,
: he makes many astonishing concessions that undermine his arguments. For
: instance, when recounting his conversations with William E. Gordon, sponsor
: of the famous Aliens Bill, which restricted Jewish immigration into
: turn-of-the-century England, he writes:

: "Whenever the quantity of Jews in any country reacts against them . . .
: .[It] cannot be looked upon as anti-Semitism in the ordinary or vulgar sense
: of the word. It is a universal social and economic concomitant of Jewish
: immigration and we cannot shake it off" [p. 90].

: From Russia Weizmann takes the reader to his student days in Geneva and then
: to Berlin, the pre-WW I headquarters of Zionism. He recounts the little
: known but crucially important issue of Jewish nationalism among the radical
: Jewish university students. Zvi Abnerson, one of Weizmann's colleagues,
: commented:

: "[T]he Jewish Marxists. . .were "the usual bullying majority," intolerant of
: the hunger for national freedom, the attachment to cultural traditions,
: which others felt. Liberators of the world, they repressed with ridicule and
: the weight of numbers those whom they called the minority, but who happened
: to represent the actual majority of the Jewish people -- certainly in
: Russia; and if they lacked the oppressive instruments of the Czar, they were
: not less hostile than Czarism to the inner demands of minority
: nationalities. And their doctrinaire brutality was all the more odious
: because it was turned against their own people" [p. 65].

: Weizmann reveals repeatedly how the initial opposition to Zionism came from
: wealthy assimilated Jews who feared that Jewish nationalism would taint Jews
: with the charge of dual loyalty. It was Edwin Montagu, the Jewish Viceroy of
: India, who spearheaded the opposition to the Balfour Declaration in England.
: Leopold Rothschild, despite his relative Edmond de Rothschild's colonizing
: work in Palestine, was equally opposed to Zionism.

: Nevertheless, Zionism triumphed and Weizmann's autobiography shows in rich
: detail precisely how. No one can read this book without realizing the
: ubiquity of the Zionist international. Again and again Weizmann enters the
: offices of top government leaders. He ascribes it all "to chance" and
: fortunate encounters, but his flitting all over the globe and his vast
: contacts give the lie to this assertion. Trial and Error is a victual Who's
: Who of World Zionism. The book is worth reading just for its short vignettes
: of the innumerable colleagues Weizmann worked with while realizing his
: dream. Many of these names will be unfamiliar to the reader, but they tell
: the "history behind the history" of our times.

: Weizmann, a passionate advocate of his cause, carefully selects the facts he
: wishes the reader to know. He treats the Balfour Declaration as a virtual
: gift from a benevolent British government, only hinting at how the Zionists
: themselves wrote it. He makes no mention of the Hussein-McMahon
: correspondence of October 24, 1915, which predated the Balfour Declaration
: by two years. Nor is there any mention of the momentous collaboration of
: Zionism with Nazism in the 1930s.

: Weizmann's account of the British handling of Palestinian problems and the
: eventual British move away from the Balfour Declaration is essential
: reading. His interpretation is self-pleading, but is nevertheless as
: eloquent a statement of a fundamentally flawed case as may be found. Chaim
: Weizmann was made first president of Israel and no doubt the honor was
: deserved. Without him, Zionism would have been stillborn. As Adolf Hitler
: was to Nazism, Chaim Weizmann was to Zionism. His book is a testament to a
: great intellect that was unfortunately devoted to messianic delusion.

Ralph Nader, Walter Cronkite On Witness List
Fired Journalists Stand Up To Media Empire;
Whistleblower Case Is First Of Its Kind

While an increasing number of Americans suspect mainstream news
organizations sometimes twist the news, two veteran investigative
journalists say they are ready to prove in court how Fox television
managers and lawyers at WTVT Fox 13 in Tampa ordered them to deliberately
distort news reports and then fired them for resisting those directives.

The landmark whistleblower lawsuit is believed to be the first time
any journalist has ever filed a claim against his own news organization
and offered evidence of behind-the-scenes manipulation of the news.

When the trial begins next Monday, reporters Jane Akre (pronounced
A'-cree) and Steve Wilson say they will show exactly how Fox hired them
and advertised their reputations for hard-hitting investigations but then
folded and pressured them to slant a story in favor of an advertiser who
threatened "dire consequences" if their reports were broadcast.

CBS journalist Walter Cronkite and public interest advocate Ralph
Nader are both on the plaintiffs' witness list, despite efforts by Fox
attorneys who desperately sought to block their testimony.

The trial will pit the two fired journalists with Wilson representing
himself for more than two years in an effort to save money on legal fees,
and Akre represented by a small Tampa firm, against the powerful Washington
law firm of Williams Connolly, the same lawyers who represent President
Bill Clinton personally. To get their day in court, the plaintiffs have
sold their home, spent their life savings battling the media giant, and
say they have been branded as media traitors never likely to get another
good job in the business again.

To the amazement of most legal observers, the reporters paved their
way to court by defeating three Fox motions to summarily dismiss the case
without a trial. Those victories were engineered by Akre's legal team led
by John Chamblee and Tom Johnson.

At the heart of the dispute is a series of reports produced by Akre
and Wilson revealing the widespread and virtually secret use of a
synthetic hormone being injected into dairy cows throughout Florida and
much of the U.S. The hormone causes cows to produce more milk.

The investigative reports that Fox abruptly pulled from its schedule
in early 1997 would have revealed that without the consent or approval of
milk drinkers and those who serve it daily to their children, use of the
synthetic hormone has altered what used to be called nature's most nearly
perfect food.

The stories would have also disclosed for the first time that leading
grocers now admit they quietly broke their 1994 promises not to buy milk
from hormone-injected cows until the practice achieved widespread
acceptance. Surveys have shown that the vast majority of consumers do
not want artificial hormones in their milk and would avoid such milk if it
were labeled. No dairy anywhere is known to label its milk as coming from
cows injected with artificial hormones.

Although legal in America, the artificial bovine growth hormone (rBGH)
has been banned in Canada, throughout Europe, and elsewhere due in large
part to concern about health risks for milk drinkers. One of the chief
concerns is that while the growth hormones do cause the cows to produce
more milk, the milk is changed in a way that could promote breast, colon
and prostate cancer.

"In wake of the two written threats1,2 from Monsanto to Fox News
chief Roger Ailes, we were asked to put Fox's interest in its own bottom
line ahead of the public interest," said plaintiff Steve Wilson. Monsanto
is the multi-national chemical company that makes the genetically
engineered hormone.

"When the president of Fox Television Stations saw those threats,
that executive who controls more television stations than anyone in
America simply ordered his lawyers to 'take no risks' with the story."
Wilson said. The executive's directive has been confirmed in sworn
testimony from two Fox attorneys3,4 in the written notes of one them.5

"And we have also discovered, in another handwritten note of one of
the broadcaster's attorneys, that if they tried to kill the story and word
leaked out, it would be a major p-r problem for Fox'" said co-plaintiff
Akre. "So they decided to eliminate their risk by pressuring us to
placate Monsanto and essentially lie to the public. No decent journalist
can ever do that."

The reporters will testify that Fox managers first threatened to fire
them for insubordination, then offered them a six-figure deal to entice
them to go along. When the pair refused, they say they were strung along
for months re-writing the story 83 times in an effort to get it on the air
before being suspended, locked out, and

I would like to confirm some of Item 6 in this memo.."SDI"

In early November 1998 I spoke by phone to Dr. Robert Jacobs, now an Assoc.
Prof. of Communications at a prestigious University, about the 1964
VandenBerg Incident which he was a witness to as far as the film taken. He
was then a lieutenant in charge of the 1369th Photo Optical Instrumentation
Team assigned by SAC to film a prototype anti-missile missle test on approx.
9/15/64, using the most powerful military telescope ever built up to that
time. He confirmed to me that he was ordered to see the test film his staff
had taken a day previous (he'd not seen it up to that time) He , in the
presence of Major Florenz Mansmann, and two or three apparent civilian
intelligence-types who did not speak, watched a "classic" flying saucer
enter
the picture when tne dummy warhead had finally separated from its two
stages.
The UFO "beamed' something at the warhead several times, circling the
warhead
while doing so, causing the warhead tio fall dead into the Pacific.

Retired Major Mansmann, now unable to speak due to a throat cancer operation
causing larynx removal, has confirmed in writing to researcher Robert
Hastings the account claimed by then-Lieut. Jacobs. In 1964, Mansmann had
officially covered up the incident, warning Jacobs of the severity of a
security breach , etc. Jacobs , after leaving the Air Force , checked out
the
incident through the FOIA and learned the event, his service records, any
proof of the new "BU" telescope etc. had been literally wiped out by the
USAF, but subsequent independent research confirmed all the corroboration
 Jacobs sought.

Jacobs stated the civilian "observers" confiscated the film, spliced out the
UFO portion, and returned the film to Mansmann. In expurgated form it was
later viewed by a former Jacobs staff member who said he saw nothing
 extraordinary in it.

In a subsequent report of the Incident written for the MUFON Journal in
1989,
Dr. Jacobs speculates, among other conclusions , that the gov't. may have
been "warned" in advance the disabling action on the warhead would occur,
given the urgency of the test at the time. He also excoriated, in a separate
report a certain UFO "debunker" for the harsh treatment given the truthful
 account offered.

I made up a three page report of our 11/98 phone conversation and presented
it to my Waldwick NJ lecture audience on 11/18/98, having been told by Dr.
Jacobs I could "quote him" on these matters.

 Thank You.

[CTRL] Fwd: [corp-focus] A Civics Lesson for Big Tobacco

2000-07-18 Thread Kris Millegan

A Civics Lesson For Big Tobacco
By Russell Mokhiber and Robert Weissman

The $145 billion punitive damage award against the tobacco industry in the
Engle case in Florida should be celebrated as evidence of a civil justice
system that works, proof of the value of juries and a major public health
achievement.

And the nation should be saying to the Engle jury, "Thank you. Thank you
for making the system work. Thank you for delivering a civics lesson to us
all "

Lesson No. 1: Lives should matter more than profits.

"For them -- Big Tobacco -- this trial was about money," jury foreman
Leighton Finegan, an assistant principal at a Miami-Dade elementary
school, told reporters. "For us, it was about people's lives."

Finegan denounced Philip Morris attorney Dan Webb for saying a large
punitives award would be "a death warrant" for the industry. "He ignored
the death warrant on the millions of lives of people [the tobacco
industry] lied about," Finegan said.

Lesson No. 2: Corporations that engage in fraud and deceit, with deadly
consequences, should be held accountable.

"We want this message loud and clear: We will not tolerate fraud and
misrepresentation," Finegan said. "They belittled or denied causation of
the health effects of smoking and addiction, and had the gall to challenge
public health authorities."

Lesson No. 3: Punitive damages are a form of punishment -- they have to be
sufficiently large to make defendants take notice.

"We had a sense of mission," Finegan said to journalists. "And we did not
want to ignore the tremendous devastation that the product has caused. The
number had to match that. It had to be significant."

Lesson No. 4: The importance of punitive damages is their very uncertainty
-- they make it harder for corporations to calculate their liability and
engage in "rational" decisions to harm the public.

The jury thought the size of the verdict "would put the companies on
notice -- not just the tobacco companies, all companies -- concerning
fraud or misrepresentation of the American public," Finegan said.

These basic lessons have been obscured by a nimble public relations effort
by Big Tobacco, and its proxies, to spin media coverage and public
interpretation of the verdict.

The jury's award would throw the industry into bankruptcy, the tobacco
lawyers tell the media. But a tobacco firm memorandum that we obtained
candidly acknowledges that the verdict will not bankrupt the industry, and
that Florida law requires the judge to lower the award if necessary to
avoid such an outcome.

The leading independent expert on tobacco pricing, MIT's Jeffrey Harris,
points out that with substantial increases in price, Big Tobacco can
increase its revenues by tens of billions of dollars a year. The industry
is reluctant to raise cigarette prices to revenue-maximizing levels
because it knows this will deter future smokers and diminish the overall
number of smokers -- and thereby the industry's political influence.

The decision is certain to be overturned, say the tobacco industry
analysts on Wall Street, who have managed to convince investors not to
abandon tobacco stocks. Anything is possible on appeal, of course, but the
Florida Supreme Court has already declined to hear a challenge to the
industry's central bone of contention (that Florida smokers should not be
joined in a class, and instead should bring their cases on an individual
basis). And why is it that the media turns to tobacco industry analysts --
who are heavily invested in tobacco stocks and have recently evolved into
industry spokespeople -- for litigation predictions?

Most dangerous is the line, subtly supported by the tobacco industry, that
public policy should be made in Congress, not in the courts.

Public policy is, and should be, made both in the legislative and judicial
branches. In the case of tobacco, the nicotine-money-addicted Congress has
failed for decades to do its job. We should celebrate that the Engle jury
has done its job. Higher prices from the large award will cut smoking
rates dramatically, and over the years save hundreds of thousands of
lives. And the threat of future verdicts will prod the industry to engage
in less severe misconduct.

That is not to say that regulation isn't important. But just as litigation
is no substitute for regulation, regulation is no substitute for
litigation.

In the coming months, the industry and its allies will almost surely
propose a new legislative deal to trade regulatory concessions for
litigation protections and immunities.

The rejection of such an offer in 1997-1998 made possible the Engle
verdict, and the offer should be dismissed again, this time out of hand.
That is another of the civic lessons to be drawn from the Engle jury.

As the tobacco control movement looks ahead, blocking another tobacco
industry immunity proposal and focusing on the international operations of
Big Tobacco will be two of the primary challenges ahead.

: "Whenever the quantity of Jews in any country reacts against them . . .

: From Russia Weizmann takes the reader to his student days in Geneva and then
: to Berlin, the pre-WW I headquarters of Zionism. He recounts the little

: Jewish university students. Zvi Abnerson, one of Weizmann's colleagues,

: "[T]he Jewish Marxists. . .were "the usual bullying majority," intolerant of

: not less hostile than Czarism to the inner demands of minority

: because it was turned against their own people" [p. 65].

: Weizmann reveals repeatedly how the initial opposition to Zionism came from
: wealthy assimilated Jews who feared that Jewish nationalism would taint Jews
: with the charge of dual loyalty. It was Edwin Montagu, the Jewish Viceroy of

: Leopold Rothschild, despite his relative Edmond de Rothschild's colonizing

: Nevertheless, Zionism triumphed and Weizmann's autobiography shows in rich

: themselves wrote it. He makes no mention of the Hussein-McMahon

The interest in our USA TODAY ad has been nothing short of phenomenal. Now
people throughout the country want to "keep the ad moving." The attitude
coming across to us here at the Foundation is, "Let's paper over the country
with the ad." The ad -- which described the fraud and illegal operations of
the income tax system -- is getting "legs." It is on its way to being
mass-produced for the purpose of educating more ordinary Americans on the
issue of the fraudulent and illegal operations of the income tax system. They
say that repetition is the soul of advertising.

Many people are making arrangements to have the ad run in their local
newspaper. Here are the ones we know about: Spokane; Lexington, Dallas/Fort
Worth, Tupelo, Kansas City, Westchester County, Indianapolis, Olney
(Illinois), and Richmond. Also, many people have asked for a "camera ready"
original of the ad that they can take to their local print shop to make
copies for distribution (under windshield wipers, in stores, in churches,
house-by-house delivery, etc.).

In response to this popular demand, we are making it possible for newspapers
and print shops around the country to download the USA TODAY ad directly off
our web site, in camera-ready form. Beginning today or tomorrow, there will
be two files available at http://www.givemeliberty.org. One is for printing
the ad in color. The other file is for printing the ad in black and white.
Also, to open the files, the desktop publishing software "QuarkXPress" must
be used. Most newspapers and print shops use "QuarkXPress," and will have no
problem opening the files, which work in either the MAC or IBM environment.

Many people have expressed the desire to have us send them many copies of the
ad for distribution. We have ordered and received 36,000 copies of the ad in
color, on premium grade white paper. We will UPS box loads of the ad to those
who request them. Each copy is the same size as the ad that appeared in USA
TODAY. We do ask that people order the ad in lots of 500 copies when they
order. The cost of each box load of 500 ads is $50, which includes the
shipping
cost. Send your check or money order to We The People Foundation, 2458 Ridge
Rd., Queensbury, N.Y. 12804.

IMPORTANT: Anyone planning to spend a large sum of money to run the ad in a
newspaper (or to have a local print shop print a large number of copies), may
want to follow what some others are doing. Ask your newspaper for their "not
for profit" rate. Send, or wire that amount to us. We will immediately send
that money to your newspaper. You could save a lot of money if We The People
Foundation for Constitutional Education, Inc is a sponsor of the ad. For
instance, the cost of the Kansas City ad was lowered from $29,000 to $16,000.
Please note also, that if you pay income taxes, the cost of the ad is tax
deductible if you send (donate) the money to the Foundation, and the
Foundation, as the sponsor of the ad, sends the money to the newspaper.

Suggestion: The group in Indiana is planning on running the ad in a number of
smaller newspapers around the state before they run it in the big
Indianapolis newspaper. They expect to first develop a base of supporters
throughout the state and then from that base raise the money to run the more
costly ad in the Indianapolis paper.

Hit 'em again.

Hit 'em again.

Harder, harder!

Dear ICFDA eGroups subscribers..

This is a rather different message, and a difficult one at that.

As many of you may know, my wife and I lost our 13-year son to
an SSRI-induced suicide three years ago next week.
(drugawareness.org/matthewmiller.html)

In a few weeks we will be going to trial here in Kansas City in
attempt to prove that Pfizer has long known about the
relationship between their drug Zoloft, and violent or suicidal
actions. (information posted at justiceseekers.com)

It most likely will be a long, difficult and personally taxing ordeal.

My wife and I have chosen to pursue this litigation because we
believe there need to be changes in the ways these drugs are
marketed and labeled, especially by doctors who prescribe
off-label to children.

We know we are not going into this alone. We have outstanding
legal representation. We have the prayers of many who have
also suffered. We know that all those who have died on these
medications, and they are far too numerous to mention, stand
with us. (It is no understatement to say that we feel their
presence every day. Perhaps even your own loved ones.) And
we ultimately know that the good Lord blesses our efforts-this
"rising up in righteous anger."

In the coming weeks, we will have an opportunity to share our
story with many people, especially within the news media. In
fact, we have an important interview with a national news
organization in August.

And that's why I'm writing.

One of the things that most convinced us that Matt's medicine
was responsible for his actions were the countless letters we
have received from our website. They still come in every day.
For the most part, they represent a tragic realization that the
"cure" was "cause."

If you have suffered on SSRI medications, specifically Prozac,
Paxil, Zoloft, Luvox, Effexor, Serzone, Celexa (or any other
serotonergic medicine), please send me a photo and a short
paragraph on a separate piece of 8 1/2" X 11" paper stating what
happened. It could be as simple as "My brother took his life on
Zoloft after three weeks of use," or "I almost lost my life trying to
withdraw from Paxil." Please use names and addresses and
phone numbers. I want to build a scrapbook to share with the
press.

Perhaps with your help, we can make a difference. And your
help in building this scrapbook will go a long ways to show the
human dimension to this national tragedy.

If you can, please send a photo and short paragraph to me by
August 15, 2000 to:

13920 Garnett
Overland Park, KS 66221

Or if you prefer, email me your photo (preferably as JPEG file)
and paragraph to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] I will not be able
to return originals, but I will let you know I've received them.

Thank you for your cooperation. Obviously some of you reached
by this email will not have had a personally devastating
experience with these drugs, and for that I am grateful. But, if you
have, please take a moment to help out in this way.

I know this book will make a powerful statement with whomever
we talk to.

Thank you again.Mark and Cheryl Miller

Ralph Nader, Walter Cronkite On Witness List
 Fired Journalists Stand Up To Media Empire;

The executive's

Terror and the Religion of Peace--Part I

: Mohammed, Prophet of Islam is known as the "Apostle of Peace" by Muslims.
: Nothing can be further from the truth.

: This article is just one of a series that I will be publishing regarding
: sadistic cruel nature of Prophet Mohammed. In this article I will prove once
: again, that Mohammed was in fact a terrorist, criminal and murderer whose
: entire life was based on victimizing innocents and indulging in mindless
: violence, carnage and massacre. He was a man who destroyed peace wherever he
: went, and in its place brought terror, carnage and death.

: When Mohammed first started screaming from the rooftops that he alone had
: the divine word of God, the people of Mecca ignored him. However, when he
: started insulting and defaming the religion of the peace loving Meccans,
: they couldn't take it anymore and tried persuading him to stop. Mohammed the
: coward was too scared of the growing hostility against him and instead of
: calling upon his Allah to strike down the Meccans, he crept out one night
: and fled for his life.

: Ever since that incident, Mohammed was determined to take revenge on the
: Meccans. He escaped to Medinah, which had a sizeable Jewish population, and
: started plotting his revenge with a small gang of criminals. This was the
: beginning of Mohammed's trail of violence, hatred and bloodshed that would
: soon destroy the once flourishing culture of Arabia. The story has been
: documented in detail by his biographers, - surprise raids on trade caravans
: and tribal settlements, the use of plunder thus obtained for recruiting an
: ever growing army of greedy desperados, assassinations of opponents,
: blackmail, expulsion and massacre of the Jews of Medinah, attack and
: enslavement of the Jews of Khayber, rape of women and children, sale of
: these victims after rape, trickery, treachery and bribery employed to their
: fullest extent to grow the numbers of his religion Islam which ironically
: was supposed to mean "Peace"! He organised no less than 86 expeditions, 26
: of which he led himself.

: The motives of the converts to Islam was never in any doubt. As D.S.
: Margoliouth states in his book Muhammad and the rise of Islam

: "Of any moralising or demoralising effect that Muhammad's teaching had upon
: his followers we cannot say with precision. When he was at the head of the
: Robber community, it is probable that the demoralising influence began to be
: felt; it was then that men who had never broken an oath learnt that they
: might evade their obligations, and that men to whom the blood of their clan
: had been as their own, began to shed it with impunity in the "cause of god".
: And that lying and treachery in the cause of Islam received divine approval.
: It was then too that Moslems became distinguished by the obscenity of their
: language. It was then too, that the coveting of goods and wives possessed by
: Non-muslims was avowed without discouragement from the Prophet"
: The details of all his criminal onslaughts in the form of battles and
: assasinations are chronicled in this article in a chronological manner. One
: should note that everytime the "Apostle of Peace" committed one of his
: criminal onslaughts, he always justified the crimes by quickly claiming a
: "divine revelation" which conveniently removed the blame from his bloodied
: hands. These convenient Suras are detailed immediately below the description
: of the incident.

: 1) Massacre of unarmed merchants during sacred month
: Date: Late January(Rejeb), 623 A.D.
: Place: Nakhla
: Victims: 4 Merchants from Quraysh tribe of Mecca, the Tribe to which
: Mohammed himself belonged

: Four UNARMED merchants were travelling to Mecca to sell their goods
: consisting of raisins, honey and animal skins. It was the holy month of
: Rejeb which was considered sacred for trade in Arabia. It was a point of
: honor that any form of warfare or violence was strictly forbidden in this
: month. Mohammed's gang attacked the helpless men from behind and stabbed two
: of them to death. They plundered all the goods as booty and Mohammed got one
: fifths of the share.

: This shows the utter lack of morals or scruples on Mohammed's part. The
: Prophet of Islam did not possess a shred of pity or kindness, or the
: slightest sense of justice. He cold-bloodedly murdered two innocent people
: who had never done him any harm and did not even know him! All this was done
: in a month that the Prophet himself declared was a sacred month in which no
: warfare should take place. Mohammed was obviously motivated by nothing but
: hatred and greed.

: Conveniently divine revelations came down from Allah that absolved him of
: all the guilt.

: Koran 2:216
: "Warfare is ordained for you, though it is hateful unto you; but it may
: happen that you hate a thing which is good for you and it may happen that

: than the population of Delhi, is the real churning pot on
: earth and has serviced India's four wars viz.: 1962,
: 1965, 1971 and 1999.

: Taking a dig at the growing Indo-Israeli relations,
: former Pakistan ISI chief General Hamid had recently
: noted that Brahminical India and Jewish Israel have much
: in common, including usury.

: After a needless prevarication, India established
: diplomatic relations in 1992 and has not looked back
: since. India and Israel have a shared history, both
: attained independence around the same tine 1947/48, both
: have fought several wars and skirmishes with neighbours
: but with a difference: Except in 1973 Israel won decisive

: a stalemate with Pakistan and suffered humiliating defeat
: in the Himalayas.

: Hence the questions, how Israel, a small desert country
: surrounded by big countries has always been able to scare
: them away. And how India a big country surrounded by
: small countries is scared of them. Israel's destiny is
: guided by the doctrine of survival and the use of
: military force as a policy option even for moving the
: peace process. Taking the war to the adversary is the
: goal of its politico-military strategy. Its nuclear
: ambiguity augments- conventional deterrence. Israelis do
: not turn any cheek.

: But Israel is not anymore the fighting wonder it used to
: be after the six day highlighting war of 1967.

: It has taken cuts and reductions; in freedom of action,
: use of force, its usefulness for its mentor USA, and even
: in deterring adversaries. Suffering from conflict
: fatigue, Israeli defence forces (IDF) can no longer win a
: decisive victory. Doubts on IDF capability are being cast

: Pressure from the 'Mothers Front' was one of the reasons

: Geography has dictated Israeli history. It has limited
: strategic depth. Its chicken's neck is less than the

: a triangle formed by Jerusalem, Haifa and Tel Aviv, is
: concentrated 70 per cent of the population and 80 per
: cent of the country s resources. This is 80 km from the
: hostile eastern front. This acute sense of insecurity and
: vulnerability has led to the creation of buffer zones,
: seeking strategic partners outside the neighbourhood and
: deployment of united Nations or multilateral forces and
: observers along all its borders with Lebanon, Syria,
: Jordan and Egypt. No country is ringed by an
: international security system as Israel. Yet, Tel Aviv is
: the target of random human bomber attacks such as in Sri
: Lanka. In Feb 1997 alone their were four such attacks,
: killing 57 persons and wounding hundreds. Israel s newest
: and most striking strategic ally is the secular Muslim
: country Turkey.

: Slowly but surely, Israel is coming to peace with itself
: and its neighbours. It has resolved territorial disputes
: with Egypt in 1977 and Jordan in 1994. The most
: intractable, however is the interlinked Syria- Lebanon
: border dispute. The Golan heights and Mount Hermon in
: Syria are like Tolaling and Tiger Hill. They dominate
: northern Israel and the Jordan river (and mount Hermon is
: its source) which is Israel s source of drinking water.
: As part of the peace process, the IDF has withdrawn only
: last month from southern Lebanon. Under US aegis, Israel
: is simultaneously engaging Syria and the Palestinian
: authority in peace talks. It has vacated and dismantled

: India has kept out of the Middle East peace process. It

Iraq claims biological weapons

Tuesday, July 18, 2000

MIDDLE EAST | Former UNSCOM executive director Richard Butler said yesterday
that Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz had told him his country has
biological weapons "to deal with the 'Zionist entity,'" according to a report
Tuesday in the Jerusalem Post.

Butler said he believes Aziz's statement, made during Butler's tenure as a
UN-mandated Iraqi disarmament official during a meeting, demonstrates
"genocidal character."

Speaking at a lecture in Jerusalem, the paper said, Butler claimed that two
years after Baghdad expelled UN weapons inspectors, Saddam Hussein is back to
manufacturing weapons of mass destruction. He said only a united UN Security
Council could prevent Iraq from again stockpiling chemical and biological
weapons.

Baghdad, now "awash with money," will only be spurred to produce more weapons
following Iran's successful launching of a long-range missile on Saturday,
Butler said.

The former weapons inspector, now a diplomat in residence at the Council on
Foreign Relations in the U.S., said Saddam "from day one" attempted to thwart
inspections and restart his weapons programs.

"Either the Iraqis' declarations were false, phony, or filled with deceptions
and evasions," he said.

Faced with political pressure from Russia to "lower his standards" and a
crumbling Security Council consensus, Butler drew up a list of disarmament
requirements for the Iraqis to bring an end to the sanctions, the Post said.

Butler said he asked them to account for 500 tons of fuel used to make Scud
missiles, to list the quantity of mustard shells as well as the amount of VX
nerve gas they had, and most important to reveal what types of biological
weapons they were producing.

Despite receiving assurances from Aziz, Butler said Baghdad refused to comply
with any of his instructions. He also termed Aziz the "minister for
disarmament resistance."

Iraq expelled Butler's group in 1998.

"They refused to comply with my list because it was right. The things I was
asking for were precisely the weapons that if we got hold of, Iraq would be
disarmed, and they did not want to be," he told his audience.

The new organization that took over after UNSCOM was expelled has still,
after a year, never set foot in Iraq. Butler said the group is currently
undergoing training in New York in Iraq's "cultural sensitivities."

Butler also blamed Iraq's refusal to cooperate on Russian interference.
Calling Iraq's flaunting of the UN Security Council, with Russia's backing, a
"crisis in global security," Butler said Iraq is basically telling the main
authority of international law to "get lost."

He also said the U.S. has not made it adequately clear to the Russians that
their behavior is incompatible with their relationship with Washington, DC.

Iran making missile progress, Cohen says

Tuesday, July 18, 2000

MIDDLE EAST | Iran is making progress in its ballistic missile program, said
Defense Secretary William Cohen on Monday, noting Tehran's successful test of
a new Shahab-3 medium range missile late last week.

Also, Cohen said, Iran is making progress on longer ranged missiles as well
-- weapons that eventually will threaten all of Israel and all U.S. forces in
the Persian Gulf region.

Cohen used the Iranian test to stump for a U.S. national missile defense
shield, citing concerns in Washington over the proliferation of ballistic
missiles by Tehran and other nations.

"Any time you have a success in a theater missile system — that gives you
confidence to go forward with more tests with greater capability," Cohen
said, as quoted in Tuesday editions of The Washington Times.

Missile development "has a way of going almost exponentially once you get
some of the fundamentals down," he added.

"I think there is absolutely the potential to accelerate development with
each successful test," Cohen said during his return flight from Sydney,
Australia, where he held defense talks with his Australian counterpart, John
C. Moore.

Cohen and Moore signed an agreement that will make it easier for U.S. weapons
technology to be sent to Australia, the paper said.

The secretary said he was pleased that Australia supported a U.S. national
missile defense. He added that he was happy Australia was willing to allow
U.S. access to a satellite relay station in the central portion of the
continent called Pine Gap.

Washington and Canberra are stepping up defense ties with Australia by
increasing weapons technology transfers, improving missile warning
cooperation and even preparing for joint military action should tension in
the Taiwan Strait boil over, the Times said.

The Iranian missile program is "one of the reasons why it's important to
undertake to research, develop and potentially deploy a national missile
defense system that would provide protection against countries such as Iran
posing a threat to the United States," Cohen said.

Why I Published Fortunate Son
by Sander Hicks

I sweep and mop floors once a week. The work leaves me time to think. I have
a routine, and I want to be a good super. Part of my own crazy New York
schedule is going up the five flights into the hallways of my two buildings,
usually on Sunday, after a pot of coffee, peanut butter toast and the New
York Times national section, in the quiet part of my life here in the Lower
East Side. On a good day, I hit a rhythm. It’s good for the soul.

In October 1999, I came across an article in the paper. St. Martin’s Press
was noisily slamming down the brakes on one of their own titles: Fortunate
Son: George W. Bush and the Making of an American President. They dropped a
hammer on their author J.H. Hatfield, the biographer of the presidential
front-runner. Hatfield, it turned out, had a colorful and felonious past
working for slumlords in Dallas in the 80’s.

When I sweep and mop, I hit my rhythm, and the mind hits a groove thinking
about politics. There are certain assumptions I have, things I think are
commonly accepted in the USA these days: Politics are dominated by money. The
slick and the cagey promise-makers put status and power ahead of values,
meaning and change. This game hurts the majority by neglecting our interests.
This last weekend in October I was scouring the dusty tenements with
industrial detergent when the black coffee kicked in and I began to wonder:

What in this book is so threatening that its publisher would want to smash it
apart in public, like a parent enraged enough to smack a child in front of
the neighbors? And would the author be willing to consider an offer from the
miniature corporation I ran in the basement?

For several years since my capitalist apprenticeship inside middle management
at Kinko’s, I had been running an subchapter (S) corporation, down underneath
the tenements. Soft Skull Press, Inc. made a name for itself by publishing
books by alternarock-stars. But I had begun to sharpen the editorial vision
lately with what I call the politics of the “Next New Left.” We’re working on
it still, but it’s an aggressive aggregate of my ideas of class struggle in
the new millenium, punk rock’s discipline of independence, and the high
certainty of Marxian historical analysis. OK, look the present moment is part
of the history of a larger struggle: the people against big business, part of
the even bigger history of america against tyranny. I mean the real america,
the people, not the advertising and the wars. No one is true to the original
spirit of america in our corporate-controlled political environment. Which is
why I publish people like William Upski Wimsatt and Zack Exley.
 =
page 2

The agent for the Fortunate Son had never heard of a thing called Soft Skull
Press. But I poured on the charm, got into a meeting, and made a promise to
raise a wad of cash to pay an advance. The discredited Bush biography was
ours for a smile and a handshake, because the super with the book company in
the basement was the only one willing to touch the thing with a pole.

People began to stop by the office to chat and say the phone was tapped, to
warn me, ‘watch your back, they just whacked JFK Jr. right? They got Lady Di,
right?’ I grind my teeth at night, mulling over things said in passing by
conspiracy theorists. I’ve been wearing an old football player mouthpiece,
trying to preserve my teeth.

You’re in way over your head. Up til now, your main accomplishment was being
called affectionately patronized in the press as one of the “punks of
publishing.” Can a publishing punk come out of presidential politics alive?

The author had crumpled, mortified, in self-imposed seclusion. 60 Minutes
wanted to get a television exclusive on his past, if he was willing to come
out of hiding. Could an appearance on 60 Minutes make the book, the author
and me serious and credible? Or just another couple of clowns in the circus?

Author J.H. Hatfield received death threats from prominent Republicans and
feared for the life of his family. Panicked for the life of his wife and
newborn child, he tried to kill our deal. He told the New York Times he’d
never do the book with us, and wouldn’t go on 60 Minutes. There were reasons
he was skittish. St. Martin’s sold him out as soon as sparks started to fly.
The Bush campaign threatened that the media outlets covering Hatfield’s book
would not be given press passes in a Bush White House if they took Fortunate
Son seriously.

Can’t handle a book? Destroy the man who wrote it and you don’t have to
address the harder, clear, logical questions raised in the text.

I advised Hatfield to do 60 Minutes, with my child-like trust in the flagship
news magazine. 60 Minutes

Re: [CTRL] Fwd: Fw: Prozac

2000-07-18 Thread Robert F. Tatman

As I've said before on this list, Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, and the other SSRI
antidepressants, ARE NOT PANACEAS. Too often they are prescribed
inappropriately, without concomitant counseling and with no ongoing
monitoring. Any psychoactive agent has to be titrated carefully to
determine the proper level for each individual...and even whether that
particular medication is itself correct for that particular person.

When my wife was going through a major depression several years ago, the
first medication her psychiatrist tried was Paxil. That had absolutely no
effect, so she was switched to Prozac. THAT had no effect. Many of her
symptoms were related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, which among other
things often involves thoughts that seem to race out of control, "forcing"
the patient to engage in constant ritual behavior to control their thoughts.
So the psychiatrist added haloperidol (Haldol) to the mix. It slowed her
down all right, but did not change the bizarre behavior, and we were finally
forced to abandon the combination of medication, counseling, and behavioral
therapy that we'd been trying, and hospitalize her for a month. Once there,
her behavior could be monitored and her medication adjusted, and she could
be given intensive counseling. Finally she managed to slow down enough to
catch up with herself... That was six years ago.

She has been on Prozac ever since, and she freely admits that she feels
whole for the first time in her life. Without Prozac, I honestly doubt that
she would be alive. But PLEASE note: she wound up on Prozac only after a
lot of cautious experimentation to determine what would work with her. And
that's the key. The problem is not with the SSRIs in themselves, but rather
with the way in which they are administered and dispensed.

Losing their way in the streets of shame

 Debate George Monbiot

 George Monbiot

Non-violent direct action is a misnomer. It is not a direct attempt to
change the world through physical action, but a graphic and symbolic means
of drawing attention to neglected issues, capturing hearts and minds
 through political theatre.

It may slow down the building of a road or an airport, but it will succeed
in preventing others from being built only when it is part of a wider
democratic assault on the policies that gave rise to them. When force
becomes the sole means of preventing something from taking place, the
ethics of political activism become indistinguishable from the ethics that
encouraged the Norfolk farmer Tony Martin to shoot the burglars in his
 house.

This is just one of the lessons that Britain's Reclaim The Streets has
spectacularly unlearnt. The movement that once produced the best political
theatre in Europe, winning public sympathy and galvanising debate about
the
environment and social justice, has lost the plot. It has turned into an
association of incoherent vigilantes, and has forgotten that activism is
 useless unless focused.

It might have been able to sustain an attack on global capitalism if it
had
identified a workable alternative. But without clear proposals for change,
the protests in London last year and on May Day this year were disasters.
Floundering in huge issues, aping the language and actions of
revolutionaries, but without a revolutionary programme, the organisers
left
the press and public dumbfounded as to their aims and intentions.

Reclaim The Streets has failed to draw boundaries around its political
objectives' and around the means by which they might be pursued. By
refusing to condemn violent protest the organisers issued an invitation to
every psycho in London to come for a ruck with the police.

Although incapable of deciding what it wants to achieve, the movement has
become all too adept at deciding whom it will talk to. It has refused to
explain itself to the mainstream media, or to forge strong links with
anyone outside the protest community. Criticism has come to be regarded as
 a capitalist conspiracy.

Instead of trying to persuade the unconverted of the virtues of their
arguments in terms they can easily grasp and appreciate, the organisers
have pictured instead a miraculous transformation of society, whereby
the public abandons its use of the mass media, logs on to the Reclaim The
Streets website and immediately agrees that "it is in the streets that
 power must be dissolved".

But by convincing themselves that there is no hierarchy, that the protests
they start are spontaneous uprisings of the people, the organisers shed
responsibility for their actions. Reclaim The Streets is in fact less
accountable than many of the institutions it seeks to overthrow.

The violence on May Day was the direct and predictable result of the
absence of boundaries and the abdication of responsibility. Digging up
Parliament Square to stop global capitalism is so futile, so utterly
frustrating and disempowering that the more hotheaded protesters could
almost be excused for wanting to do something more spectacular. As the
nutters in the crowd smashed up shops and defaced the Cenotaph, they must
have believed they were precipitating the assault on the entire world
order
that Reclaim The Streets had promised but had wholly failed to deliver.
The result is that the protest, three days before the local elections,
jeopardised the best electoral chances radical politics had had in Britain
for 15 years. It achieved the otherwise impossible feat of making the
Government's anti-terrorism bill appear sane. It made the police look like
society's guardian angels, and it allowed every reactionary to feel that
he
or she had been justified in dismissing the direct action movement as an
 inarticulate threat to human life.

Tony Blair couldn't have hoped for a better result if he had organised
this
 protest himself.

[CTRL] Using Noise To Cancel Noise

2000-07-18 Thread William Shannon

Using noise to cancel noise

(Blacksburg, Va., July 18, 2000) -- Ricardo Burdisso refers to his work as an
"enjoyable journey" when he is able to use his engineering skills to develop
a new technology that could benefit society.

The Virginia Tech associate professor of mechanical engineering is currently
in the middle of such a journey.

The voyage started about a decade ago when he participated in a research
project that illustrated noisy jet engines could actually be silenced with,
ironically, the use of noise. The technology appeared to be a partial
solution to airport noise pollution; one of the problems from industry's
standpoint was the cost of the technology.

As Burdisso explains the problem, "Consumers are concerned about the
environment, and one of the critical problems with aircraft is the noise
pollution. The growth of the aircraft industry is limited by the noise
pollution. Reagan Airport's limitation on aircraft flying during the night
hours is a good example of the restrictions placed on the industry."

When Burdisso and his colleagues first looked at actively controlling engine
noise, using a method to cancel noise by electronically generating anti-noise
signals, they discovered that industry would not buy into the technology.

Industry management was concerned primarily about the increase in the weight
and the cost of the engine since the researchers were actually proposing to
add acoustic energy or anti-sound to the system. The additional weight would
increase fuel consumption, an unappealing thought to the aerospace companies.

Burdisso recalls coming to the university's Vibrations and Acoustics
Laboratory (VAL) one Saturday, looking at the experimental engine, and having
a brainstorm. He thought about his idea during the next six months, and then
decided to test his theory in the lab. VAL research associate Jerome Smith
built Burdisso's new system, incorporating a passive approach to reduce the
noise.

Simply explained, this new passive control approach "works by taking some of
the acoustic energy from one part of the engine to cancel sound in another
part," Burdisso says. By using the existing energy, no additional weight is
added to the engine, eliminating industry's concern about additional fuel
consumption.

Burdisso shared the concept of the new engine with a colleague at NASA,
sending him a representative one page viewgraph. The next day he received a
positive response from the space agency, and it provided him with the money
to repeat the experiment. The second time produced better results, and he and
Smith filed for a patent on their new engine.

The mechanical engineers presented their new work to industry, and this time
the response was positive. Honeywell Engine and Systems (formerly
AlliedSignal) tested the concept in one of its full production engines, and
B.F. Goodrich subsequently licensed the patent while it remains in the
application stage. B.F. Goodrich is discussing developing the technology
during the next three years.

"This research could make an impact and be beneficial to society," Burdisso
says. "Seeing this idea go on to implementation in a product is a journey I
really enjoy."

Burdisso's love for research began as an undergraduate engineering student at
the National University of Cordoba in Argentina. Born the youngest son of
three siblings, he was the only one to attend college. His two older brothers
joined his father's manufacturing company, a business they continue to manage
after their father's retirement. When Burdisso was a sophomore in college in
1979, he became involved in the materials research lab, investigating the
structure of materials to identify potential failures.

At that time, few undergraduates worked in research labs. "There might have
been 10 of us. This work aroused my scientific curiosity," he says, and he
soon determined that he wanted to continue with research and development
ideas that led to practical solutions.

His career at Virginia Tech has taken some interesting turns. He applied to
the College of Engineering as a graduate student because of a research
project he undertook while still in Cordoba. Apparently a nuclear power plant
was built unknowingly on a seismic fault. Burdisso joined the team that
performed a structural analysis of the facility; the team included M.P.
Singh, an engineering science and mechanics professor at Virginia Tech who is
an expert in structural dynamics and earthquake engineering.

After the project was finished, Burdisso moved to Blacksburg to obtain his
doctorate under Singh's advisorship. After he obtained his Ph.D. in 1986, he
spent the academic year as a visiting assistant professor in the Department
of Aerospace and Ocean Engineering. For the next two years, Burdisso worked
at Aerostructures Inc. of Arlington, Va., but he longed to return to
laboratory research.

Republic of Texas Files For UNPO Membership
-
Posted Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at 1:58PM CDT by Vice President Daniel Miller:

URGENT - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!

This week the Republic of Texas filed for formal membership as a member of
the
Unrecognized Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), headquartered in The
Hague,
Netherlands. If accepted, the Republic of Texas would enjoy international
recognition by as many as 55 countries, including three who are members of
the United Nations.

UNPO is an international organization created by nations and peoples around
the
world who are not represented in the world's principal international
organizations,
such as the United Nations.

Founded in 1991, UNPO today consists of over 50 members and observer nations
and
peoples who represent over 100 million persons. UNPO offers an international
forum
for occupied nations, indigenous peoples, minorities, and even oppressed
majorities who currently struggle to regain their lost countries, preserve
their cultural identities, protect their basic human and economic rights,
and safeguard the natural environment.

Some of the peoples and countries represented by the General Assembly of
UNPO are East Timor, Estonia, Tibet, and Taiwan.

"Events will move very quickly from this point," stated Secretary of State
for
the Republic of Texas Bernard Grover. "We are moving forward with a
transitional
plan that will culminate in a national election of a Congress and the
adoption
of a new Constitution."

The office of Provisional Government President Archie Lowe is scheduling a
press conference to announce that Texas is taking her rightful place in the
world as an independent nation. "We have suffered for years under the
unlawful
military occupation of the US federal government," said President Lowe. "We
are very much aware of the historic significance of this new development. We
pray that God Almighty will guide the hands and hearts of the Citizens of
Texas as they begin the awesome task of restoring self-government to their
nation."

The acceptance of the application by UNPO is a large step in the attempt to
gain additional international recognition for the Republic of Texas. The
application will move to the Steering Committee of UNPO. If it passes
there it will move to a final vote in the UNPO General Assembly.

The General Council of the Provisional Government will be meeting in San
Antonio
on July 22nd at 10am at the Crockett Hotel. One item on the agenda will be
to
formally accept the UNPO membership documents. Updates will be posted
regularly to the government's website located at www.republic-of-texas.net.
Further information on UNPO can be obtained from www.unpo.org. The public
and media are encouraged to contact the Provisional Government for general
questions or formal interviews.

Re: [CTRL] Prophet of Terror and the Religion of Peace--Part I

2000-07-18 Thread Aleisha Saba

This article really makes one wonder; somehow I could never equate the
peaceful Koran to the reign of terror.

Seems like the Ayatollah, who looked like a drip drip acid indigestion
ad, thrived on fear and intimidation.

It is the poor, the thieves, and street people who are terrorized - the
crimes they commit do not fit the punishment.

This story explains what happened; for nobody will ever convince me that
the former Ayatollah which they drug from Paris, was a religious figure
descended from Mohammed.

Reign of terror? Look at Saudi Arabia. Does Sadaam Hussein terrorize
his people in such a manner as they do - well beheadings, cutting off
hand of a thiefSadaam Hussein who makes no claim to descent from
Mohammed, does he treat his people this way?

One thing too there was a movie once, about a Private SlovickI put
this in my manuscript at the time, because I thought what is wrong here.

Now this guy, was executed for going "over the hill" as I recall, under
David Eisenhower, General of the US Army.

The movie was I think a 1971 movie on TV.
The end result - it was ordered that Private Slovick be discharged from
the US Army, a court martial dishonorable discharge, and then he was to
be executed by firing squad.

I always wondered, if they discharged him, the military had no right to
execute him at that point in time, because he was a civilian.

The execution was an example or what; and looking back we see our
soldiers sent to wars to fight in countries such as Saudi Arabia and the
UN wants to have them tried in their Courts.

USA and UN condones this type of stuff and slowly they are raising
military standards now where they turn assassins loose on little
churches where little children are burned alive, without shedding a
tearwould like to see Clinton feel their pain.'
'
Just few thoughts.but do discharge a guy, and then execute him?
When discharged it would seem military lost their jurisdiction - so
imagine nobody said a word.

So much for Reign of TerrorsDraconian Law and warrants written in
blood.

Re: [CTRL] HAARP - Fabricating God

2000-07-18 Thread Tsadowq

Hello everyone,

In a message dated 6/24/00 1:37:10 PM Central
Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
My first thought on this is that the power base on
this planet is afraid of giving up its hold on its power.
Their interest in controlling our DNA would be to
prevent a migration to another dimension. That is
why they might be researching this technology.

In my own paradigm, this is partially true. While
the plan of the Illuminoids might be to exclude
those who are not the "capstone of society
perfected," what they do not realize is that
the Master Mind behind their Illumination
has something completely different planned...

In a message dated 06/25/2000 1:58:58 AM Mountain

Interesting. Question: if the 1000-1200 MHz range
source is everywhere (possibly due to HAARP)- and
cannot be pinpointed to a satellite - how do they get
it to zone in on a particular person? I don't get that
part. TIA if anyone can help.

The plan is for PLANET-WIDE ascension...

I am going to cut and paste part of an
email that I recently sent to another list.

I will probably add a few comments at the end.

Keep in mind that the excerpt below was sent
to a list which discusses the ATLANTIS...

x

Lastly, I would have to agree with previous statements
regarding the inevitable discussion of various religious
theologies on this list. Edgar Cayce was absolutely
told that Atlantis was destroyed over a battle between
good and evil; a war over "who was God".

In this age of Heaven and Earth, this war continues...

If my own research is correct, the "fallen spirits" of
Atlantis are nothing less than Lucifer and the fallen
1/3 of the heavenly host as recorded in REV 12:1-5.

These same "luminaries" now pose as "angels of light"
and sometimes even "Ascended Masters" or "Lords
of Light." So, if you are looking for "love and light",
 say "Hello, Maitreya"...

I also agree with prior statements which made
the assertion that New Age is very, very old.

New Age is the same Old Lie told by Lucifer to the rebels
who were foolish enough to follow him. This lie says that
we can be as gods; have "Christ consciousness" without
following the plan established by the Father for doing so.

This plan follows the rule of self-symmetry by means of
PHI. In John 17, Christ said that He was in the Father,
and that we are in him (Jesus). My own mathematical
analysis of this passage (and others), confirm by use
of gematria that this is exactly what is taking place.

Again, this explains why Jesus said that you cannot
get to the Father without Him. If you remove .618,
the rule of self-symmetry is invalid.

In any case, the Garden of Eden began the same test
for mankind. In the Garden, Adam and Eve had chose
to forsake their relationship with the Tree of Life (Christ),
for the lie that they could be as gods.

EARTH'S ANCIENT PAST AND THE FALL OF LUCIFIER

I for one would completely agree to the fact that there is an
ancient and fallen civilization behind us in Earth's past. Where
we are likely to disagree, is that in my own paradigm, this great
civilization was formed when Lucifer and the 1/3 of the rebellious
angels were cast to Earth in Revelation 12.

These fallen entities came to Earth and built the Great Pyramid
and other sacred sites in order to harness the power of the Earth's
electromagnetic grid...truly marking the land mass with Earth Star
patterns which are "As Below, So Above."

It is likely that the ancient marking of these Earth Grid
coordinates is what remains in the Ley Line phenomena.

The purpose of this Luciferian scheme was to convert matter
back into energy...to reverse E = Mc2. As an alternate theory,
it is also possible that harnessing this power was used to create
Multidimensional Piezoelectric Reactivity (MPR) to open a vortex
 to another dimension.

After all...the rebellious angels didn't like being "cast to Earth"...

If this is true, it is even more likely that the Bermuda Triangle is
one of such port holes. This port hole would open when "as above,
so below" occurs during certain planetary alignments, causing a
flux between diamagnetic poles that would literally place those
lost ships and airplanes somewhere in time/space.

Nonetheless, the Luciferians' plan to harness
the Earth's grid worked. Unfortunately the only
one who made it through was Lucifer himself.

It is likely that this is why the legends of Atlantis record that
the "king" over the ante-diluvian society somehow "escaped."

King Lucifer's escape also explains why the Egyptians
possess the legend of Osiris, who reportedly ascended
into the region of the Duat in the Belt of Orion/Osiris.

This event ties directly to the Bible's 13,000 year mark of
this age, and it also reveals why the Great Pyramid lines
up to the very first Epoch of the Belt of Orion over Giza.

Rather amusing that Poseidon/Neptune has often
 been pictured as the King

One of the more productive avenues of research is the recent finding
of a ULF frequency embedded into the planetary HAARP propagation.
HAARP (and related systems) as a ULF generator may have two functions (1) ULF
affects the human limbic system and may be a mind control agent (2) ULF (as
well as electromagnetic frequencies) may affect seismic processes - notably
around the magnetosphere and the tectonic system of 20 or so inverted
tectonic plates that cover the Earth's surface.

SO HAARP - associated global electronic warfare systems - may have the
primary function of global mind control - Goal: to deny Universe society the
human population, and conversely to deny the human population knowledge of
Universe's society's initiative. Likewise, the possible ability to unleash
tectonic processes may be part of a "cataclysm".

Other's would call this a scorched Earth policy - Dumb down the human race
with mind control. It is expecially important to recall that all mind
control systems are GOAL-ORIENTED.

Here is the technology and the goal seems to be development of a disoriented,
dumbed-down population that becomes disenfranchised and unable to integrate
into Universe society.

For more extended comments on HAARP, its explicit mind control and earth
changes applications, see:

[CTRL] Fwd: Lousy Job? Don't Whine, Whinge

"The level of animosity portrayed on 'whinge' sites on the Internet is a
testament to the extent to which the new economy has acquired a bitter edge.
"One reason is the wall of venture capital that liberally descended on
the new economy: A lot of bad ideas and bad managers received big sums of
money.
"There are few experiences more disillusioning than working 16 hours a
day for a company that's run by cretins and is almost certainly going bust.
"In the new economy, 'whinge' sites may be the electronic equivalent of
labor unions -- a counter-force to the over-weening power of profit. For
workers, that's good.
"Corporate managers might become more careful how they treat people when
they know every misdeed could wind up posted on a Web site read by their
customers."

In the New Economy, Workers Grow Restless
by Matthew Lynn

London, July 6 (Bloomberg) -- Remember how the World Wide Web was supposed to
be about digital communities communicating instantly, ushering in a new age
of prosperity and democracy? Think again. At the moment, the Internet is all
about spitting bile and hatred into the atmosphere.

The past few months have seen the emergence of a host of ``whinge'' sites,
electronic water coolers where the employed of the world gather to swap tales
from the fetid trenches of corporate life, and to moan about the various
numbskulls for whom they have the misfortune to work.

What is it about the new economy that produces so many unhappy workers? Has
the Internet so altered the relationship between employers and employees that
every office quarrel will now be broadcast to the world, and preserved in
code for customers, rivals and potential hires to feast upon?

If so, the working world has changed fundamentally, and not necessarily for
the better.

At the respectable end of the whinge market, there is thevault.com, a hybrid
job site that also includes message boards on just about every company you've
ever heard of. Some bits seem useful: If you are going for an interview at
Merrill Lynch, for example, you can ask the board how big your bonus might be
and get a sensible answer the same day. But much of the material is more
along the lines of don't go work for Jack at BigBank Inc., he's a useless
fool with psychotic leanings.

New Economy Icons

New economy icons in particular take a beating. Two remarks about Amazon.com
Inc. are typical: ``It's starting to get a bad rep among Seattle job hunters
as a sweatshop and generally devious employer,'' says one. ``Amazon is about
getting big fast and abusing its employees along the way,'' goes another.
Switch to the Yahoo! Inc. message board and read this succinct comment:
``This place sux!''

Farther down the whinge market is Netslaves.com, a site that gathers the
disappointments and frustrations of the new economy, and preserves them in a
scrap-book of dot com folly and pig- headedness. ``Net slaves is dedicated to
everyone who's been burned by the incompetence, moronic planning, and
hysterical management of New Media companies,'' says its mission statement.

But for hardcore Web whinging, the place to hang out is fu*edcompany.com --
our spelling. This is the X-rated stuff, where the truly embittered describe
the implosion of the new economy in graphic detail. Here's one example about
a site called eLuxury.com:

``Rumor has it that the Manager and Director of BizDev at luxury e-tailer
eLuxury walked out last month. This week the second VP of BizDev, after 2
months, is making her exit. Thus leaving just the UCLA MBA intern unknowingly
to run things. He starts next week.'' Points are awarded for brainless
business plans and for inept, vicious and tyrannical management.

New Twist

In one sense, the whinge sites are just a new twist on some old impulses.
Ever since work was invented, it has been part of human nature to grumble
about the boss. No doubt the slaves hauling rocks to the pyramids gathered at
night to criticize the ridiculous deadlines, and question whether anyone
needs huge pointy things in the middle of a desert anyway.

It is also part of human nature to turn any new technology to destructive
effect. The forge gave us the spear, the stirrup the cavalry, and so on
through history. The Internet is now giving us a lot of sour adjectives about
incompetent marketing managers.

But, that said, the level of animosity portrayed on the whinge sites is a
testament to the extent to which the new economy has acquired a bitter edge.

One reason is the wall of venture capital that descended on the new economy
-- a lot of bad ideas and bad managers received big sums of money. There are
few experiences more disillusioning than working 16 hours a day for a company
that's run by cretins and is almost certainly going bust.

There are lots of bad old economy companies to work for. But at least they
have customers and revenue, and a place in the market. Many Internet
companies have none of those things and never will.

Unions urge call centres to shed sweatshop image

EDINBURGH, July 18 (Reuters) - Union leaders urged Britain's call centre
bosses on Tuesday to improve conditions for their workers and bring an end to
the '21st century sweatshop' image which has plagued one of Europe's
fastest-growing industries.

Philip Jennings, General Secretary of Geneva-based Union Network
International, told reporters at a joint press conference with the Scottish
Trades Unions Congress (STUC) that stress was the main cause of concern among
workers, and unions were prepared to take up the fight.

``Call centres are the electronic assembly lines of the new economy,''
Jennings said. ``Without a strong union presence, staff are often the victims
of high-pressured working methods.''

Call centres employ around 350,000 in Britain -- two percent of the working
population -- according to research group Datamonitor, but their reliance on
cheap labour in unemployment blackspots has revived memories of the ``dark
satanic mills'' of Britain's 19th century textile industry.

Constant surveillance by camera or managers, cramped working conditions and
unattainable performance targets are among reasons the high levels of stress,
which has lead to widespread worker misery and high drop-out rates.

``It's often claustrophobic and hot, you're not allowed to get up from your
desk, breaks are very short if you get one at all and your voice doesn't get
a break,'' a spokeswoman for the MSF union told Reuters.

Some people have even developed strain injuries in their throats from
overwork.

MINIMUM STANDARDS

The STUC said the industry was subject to standard British employment law,
but needed to go one step further.

It has met with the Glasgow-based Call Centre Association and hopes to reach
agreement later this year on a set of minimum standards for the industry,
including more training for staff, greater career development prospects, and
better ways of solving disputes between management and staff.

Tracey White of the STUC said around half Scotland's call centres already had
a union presence, and in these cases working conditions had improved.

``We will work with the best employers and tackle the worst,'' White said.

The STUC lacks any official sanction over call centres, but White said a
``name and shame'' approach would help bring some of the worst offenders into
line.

[CTRL] researcher suggests elusive Bigfoot is an android

2000-07-18 Thread Eagle 1

http://www.trib.com/HOMENEWS/GENERAL/SpacemanSasquatch.html

Bigfoot researcher suggests elusive Bigfoot is an android YAKIMA, Wash.
(AP) - Sasquatch might be from outer space.
At least that's the theory being put forth by Erik Beckjord of the San
Francisco-based Sasquatch Research Project.
He contends the proof can be found in a metal cylinder, roughly the same size
and shape as a 16-ounce can of beer, on Bigfoot's right arm in the famous
Patterson film.
"An ape doesn't have a cylinder on its arm, unless it's an experimental
creature," Beckjord told the Yakima Herald-Republic in a story published Monday.

But that's hardly enough evidence for people who believe Bigfoot is the
Yakima Valley's biggest homegrown hoax.
"That's a new one to me," said Zillah lawyer Barry Woodard, representing a
man who last year claimed to have worn a monkey suit in the 1967
Patterson-Gimlin film.
The grainy 16mm footage of what some believe is a female Sasquatch running
out of a stream bed in the Six Rivers National Forest in northern California was
taken by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin during a horseback search for Bigfoot.
Patterson died in 1972. Gimlin refuses to be interviewed.
Last year, longtime Bigfoot tracker Cliff Crook of Bothell dismissed the film
as a hoax, saying four computer-enhanced frames showed what appeared to be a
bell-shaped fastener at the creature's waist.
Several months later, a 58-year-old Yakima man, who has not been publicly
identified, came forward through Woodard claiming to have been the hoaxer who
wore the fur. The man still wants to sell his story, Woodard said.
It's been a Sasquatch summer in the Northwest this year.
Two researchers are looking into reports of the possible presence of Bigfoot
on the Hoh Indian Reservation on the Olympic Peninsula along the Pacific Coast.
A psychologist recently claimed to have seen and smelled Sasquatch while
hiking at the Oregon Caves National Monument.
Beckjord, who has a master's degree in business administration from the
University of California at Berkeley, contends the recent Bigfoot reports only
back up his contention that the creature is living among us and could be from
outer space - possibly an experimental android.
"It would be the perfect spy for wilderness warfare," Beckjord said. Or, "he
could be cruising out there on behalf of the U.S. government."
The cylinder can be seen in the 350th frame of the Patterson film, he said.
He speculates it could be anything from radio equipment to medical gear. Bulges
at either end of the cylinder likely serve as mounting hardware, he said.
For Beckjord, the most persuasive indication that Bigfoot is from another
world is the lack of an archaeological record.
"There's no roadkill ever at any time," he said. "All of the existing animals
you can find dead sometime."

[CTRL] birds have carried virus across U.S.

2000-07-18 Thread Eagle 1

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/nation/603824
