Caspar Weinberger was the most wasteful secretary of defense in U.S.
history. Will there be another major plunder of the U.S. Treasury under
Rumsfeld?

Domenico Rosa
--

Time To End Star Wars Boondoggle
The Bush administration's plan to continue the Star Wars project must be
stopped [news story, Dec. 29, "Rumsfeld Picked For Defense; Government
Veteran Asked To Reshape Role Of U.S. Military"].

Since Ronald Reagan's presidency, about $55 billion has been spent on
this project without a single piece of operational hardware yet
produced.

The Clinton administration wasted another $6.6 billion on this
discredited program. According to the Senate's General Accounting Office
report of May 7, 1997, at least $43 billion of the military budget was
simply "missing and unaccounted for."

Where is Rush Limbaugh's outrage on this one? This was at a time when
Republicans were claiming that President Clinton had stripped the
military of resources.

In an era when suitcase-sized nuclear bombs can easily be left in bus
terminal lockers, this type of missile defense system, along with the
submarine and land-launched nuclear missiles, can have no value except,
as The Courant noted, to bring profit to the weapons-making corporations
of Connecticut and other states.

Let's demand accountability from Washington as to where the money spent
on Star Wars has gone and then move to end this waste of resources that
are needed for constructive purposes.

Clinton-Reno Order Church Raided before January 20th

 by Dr. GREG DIXON
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Indianapolis Baptist Temple

We have just learned that the Clinton/Reno Justice Dept.
have ordered the Federal Marshals to raid and seize IBT
 before January 20th.

 INDIANAPOLIS BAPTIST TEMPLE--DAY 54!!
U.S. MARSHALS WILL COME BEFORE THE INAUGURATION!!! Christian Friends,
 A
meeting between US Marshals, Dr. Dixon, Pastor Dixon and the
 attorneys for
both sides took place this afternoon. The tone of this meeting was
different than previous meetings. The head Marshal, who has exercised
restraint up to this point since he was ordered to seize the property
 on
November 14, is getting pressure from "higher-ups in Washington". We
 have it
from unimpeachable sources that the Marshals will raid the
 Indianapolis
Baptist Temple BEFORE the inauguration on January 20, 2001. Up to
 this
point, it was believed that the Marshal was waiting to see what the
political efforts of the Baptist Temple would result in, but that has
 all
changed. THE CLINTON/RENO JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, WHICH STARTED ITS
ADMINISTRATION BY KILLING 82 MEN WOMEN AND CHILDREN AT WACO, IS
 ENDING ITS
WATCH BY INSISTING ON THE IMMEDIATE SEIZURE OF A 50-YEAR-OLD
 MAINSTREAM
BAPTIST CHURCH, BEFORE THEY CAN GET A PERMANENT LEGISLATIVE SOLUTION!
 They
are purposely pushing forward the seizure of this church, because
 they are
afraid that the new administration would stop the seizure. Clinton
 has
proved himself over and over to be the arch-enemy of the church. NOW
 IS THE
TIME!! COME TO INDIANAPOLIS!! The date of the FEDERAL AGENTS' arrival
 is
down to a 2-week window. PLEASE COME AND STAND WITH THIS CHURCH. The
Marshals have said that they will not arrest anyone, and you may walk
 out if
you wish, or else you will be carried out. WE ARE FORCING THEM TO
 BREAK DOWN
THE DOOR OF THIS CHURCH, DESECRATE THIS SANCTUARY AND CARRY OUT THE
 PASTOR
AND THE OTHER CHRISTIANS HERE. They will have to do it in front of
 the
cameras for all the world to see. Bring a bedroll and a Bible. We
 will feed
you. Come and be part of this historic stand. This is the first time
 in
history that the federal government is moving to seize a church in
 America.
Stand up with us for religious liberty today. CALL I.B.T. FOR
 DIRECTIONS OR
TO HAVE YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED. (317) 787-0830 We also need your
 prayers or
financial gifts. We have spent $17,000 on this battle since Nov. 14.
 Call
the church if you can help. Listen to Pastor W.N. Otwell live from
 IBT on
short wave Saturday evening on WWCR 5.070 Mhz, 7:30 to 8:00 pm
 Eastern time.
I have called for my wife and nine children to join me here at IBT.
 They
will leave for the 9-hour drive early in the morning (Saturday).
 Please pray
for us and join us here at IBT if you can. A servant of Christ,Bruce

Murch PS. PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO ALL YOUR LISTS! IT IS CRUCIAL THAT
 PEOPLE
KNOW ABOUT THE IMMINENT ARRIVAL OF THE MARSHALS. If you represent

 Related commentary by Norm Olson

One can only speculate as to whether the federals will
attack BEFORE Bush takes office. Politically it doesn't
make a lot of sense, since the Federal Marshals are not
overly affected by changing commands. Moreover, any
rush to seize the property, with the necessary peril to
life and limb, would not play well in Congressional hearings.
Clinton and Reno may be gone in a few weeks, but the
goons who storm the church and injure or kill people will
have to answer to a new President.
None should be so naive to think that hearings are to
lay blame or to force justice and due process. They are
merely whitewash to appease a gullible voting populace.
Neither the killer of Vicky Weaver nor the murderers of the
Branch Dividians suffered for their heinous acts of barbarity,
but it did soothe the ire of many Americans who demanded
that "the government look into it..."Yah, like it looked into
 the criminality of Clinton!

There are strategies here that are very interesting to
 assess:
 1. That the Marshals will move before the inauguration.
 2. That the Marshals will delay, hoping for a way out via
   a new Attorney General.
 3. That the timetable will be upset by forcing a change.

The third scenario is very interesting. It appears that the
Federals have fast-tracked their objective due to political
pressure. If such is the case, then it means that the Federals
have blinked. They have accelerated their campaign without
fully comprehending the consequence or outcome. It would
seem that by changing their schedule, they have opened
a little window of vulernability. Essentially, they

Sure, it is far from perfect. I believe the testimony of non-Muslims is worth less as
well, if anything at all. But under most western legal systems, I could go to a court
and swear an affidavit that I saw you do something, and that could be enough for your
arrest, imprisonment and possibly conviction.

Of course the sceptics would say that all you have to do is get 2 of your friends to

do this under our legal system, as the police do regularly.

Watch out for shape changing reptiles,

Under Islamic law the evidence from 2 women is outweighed by the testimony of one man.

This is not law, this is barbarisme.

I believe under islamic law you need two witnesses (it might be three) if you are
accusing someone of a crime to convict them. This is just the way Islamic law works,
and you can see how it protects the accused (perhaps unfairly) from accusations where
until recently there was no way of having evidence other than witnesses.

From: "Johannes Schmidt III" [EMAIL PROTECTED]
'Wise Women' etc. were nothing more than the quacks and
faith healers we have today. There is no evidence that they
were part of an organised religion or that they worshipped
any particular non-Christian deity.

Organized or not, those 'wise women' of old were far from 'quacks and faith healers'.
In fact, if you knew
ANYTHING about the history of medicine, you'd know that the term 'quacks and faith
healers' would be more
aptly applied to 'learned' men of 'science' who practiced medicine at the time when
these 'wise women'
practiced their own brand of home-grown doctoring...

There was a good reason most women of reason preferred to give birth at home with
these wise women in
attendance, rather than put the fate of themselves and their soon-to-be-born infants
in the hands of 'learned
men of science' at the local hospital...namely, because most women who gave birth in a
hospital died, as did
their infants. The rate of death was much lower for those women who stayed at home
and entrusted their care
to the ministrations of the local 'wise women'...

The answer lies in good part to the fact that the wise women demanded
cleanliness...they may have cast an aura
of spirituality and ritual about it, but the bottom line was that they were practicing
antiseptic control long
before it became the accepted norm amongst 'learned men of science'. In fact, the
first 'real' doctor who
suggested that doctors should wash their hands between patients was roundly criticized
and hooted by his peers
as believing in 'old wives tales'...

And those old wives also had a knowledge base of pharmaceuticals that later became
synthesized in the 20th
century as standard medicines. One case in point was the practice of boiling the bark
of the White Willow,
and using the tea for aches and pains and inflammations. It was routinely dismissed
for centuries as "an old
wives tale", until a company studied the components of the White Willow tea, decided
the active ingredient was
salycic acid, made a synthetic of it and marketed it in pill form under the name
'aspirin'.

To this day, no one knows why aspirin is as effective as it is (because it hasn't been
worth getting the
funding to mount clinical trials of it), and it probably wouldn't make it to market
today if it didn't benefit
from the 'grandfather' clause written into the government regulations regarding
pharmaceuticals.

Another case in point was the practice of wise women in the British Isles to wash
wounds with a certain
decoction made of local herbs, and then binding the wound with a piece of moldy bread.
 This too was dismissed
by 'learned men of science' as an old wives tale, and in fact attempts were made to
discourage it, since these
'learned men' couldn't fathom how putting something 'dirty' like moldy bread on a
wound could be beneficial.

One of these 'learned men' actually DID look at cases treated in such a manner, and
concluded that for some
reason the patients indeed usually recovered nicely, at a much higher rate than
patients with similar wounds
treated in the usual manner by 'learned men of science' at 'respected' hospitals.

But this was in the early 19th century, and this doctor was roundly laughed at by his
colleagues for accepting
unscientific 'old wives tales', instead of sticking to 'known science'...

Later, in the 20th century, it was found that the decoction of herbs these wise women
used had antiseptic
properties, and of course that moldy piece of bread was full of penicillin...

Re: [CTRL] 93 Christians Killed For Not Coverting to Islam

2001-01-08 Thread Stopforth, Jamie
Title: RE: [CTRL] 93 Christians Killed For Not Coverting to Islam

Every time I bring this up in public there is a dead silence. How can
churches get away with running for profit schools, factories, rentals,
and such and not pay taxes? The Organized Chruches in this country are
vastly rich, and getting ever richer. Yet they do not pay taxes.
Jayson

I think the question we should be asking ourselves is how can the government get away with forcing everyone to pay taxes as if it's citizens obligation? Well, that's another issue all-together, when you look at how the income tax amendment was ratified and how the system is supposed to be a voluntary system... Anyways, the Churches have it right. We should all follow suit.

-Caveat Lector-

Ahab: Cannot pull up the story re Clinton wanting to divide Israel into
two states - not exactly the wisdom of Solomon...what does he want
revenge.

Old lawyers joke my boss played in Court one timetwo people fighting
over a dog and during a break I said "gee, we see the Wisdom of Solomon
on the bench today".fights over dogs led to big courts in wars.

So my boss aid hey, I got it - we will divide the dog in half, and I
will ask them "which half you want - the half that eats you out of house
and home, or the other half which ." and you can use your
imagination there.

I said I do not think Solomon cut it that waybut either way, the dog
dies?

Nationalism - alleged goal is to restore lost boundaries...now
someone has squatters rights in Holy Landbut who moved in and causes
all the trouble? One would think Israel would have a King or a Queen -
rather than a hired gun in charge - a man who likes to dress up as a
woman?

So lost boundaries - what we dealing with here really - nationalism?
Or communism, for they just take what they want, do they not?

Remember the USS Liberty.

What was that joke about Clinton leaving Air Force One, and he had two

He told a soldier who was part of reception - "Look, I got this one for

And the soldier said "good trade sir, you got the best of the deal of
that one"..no insult intended to the pigs

So little clone Chelsie is being raised in her mother's image..they
called the secret service pigs as well, the ones who are there to take a
bullet for them if need be.

So at least we got the pigs (my apoligies to the pigs with 4 legs) out
of the Oval Office and White House.one pig left in New York though,
but she will be with her own kind - now let us see how she repays those
who supported her - and wonder if anyone is going to check out those
polling places?

Street people and prostitutues and gay pride and arabs and jews and
blacks - how neatly they divided and conquered? She kissed both cheeks
of jews and arabs.but like Judas sheep, the most hated of all sheep
- to whom does she owe her allegiance not that it makes any difference,
for she does not look too happy thee days.

Re: Judicial Watch Legal Response To Smear Campaign Against Cabinet
Designates John Ashcroft, Linda Chavez, and Other Conservatives

Dear Friend and Supporter:

Judicial Watch, the public interest law firm that investigates and fights
government corruption and abuse, and which has uncovered numerous
Clinton-Gore scandals in the last eight years, including its prosecution of
the misuse of FBI files by Hillary Rodham Clinton and others, has witnessed
threats in the last few days by the ultra-left intended to destroy respected
conservative leaders. The ultra-left, comprised of revolutionaries such as
Jesse Jackson, and leaders of pro-abortion, feminist, homosexual, and labor
union "rights" groups, have vowed to destroy the reputations of Attorney
General-designate John Ashcroft, Labor Secretary-designate Linda Chavez,
Energy Secretary-designate Spencer Abraham and others.

Given our experience in the FBI Filegate case - where ultra-leftists
associated with the Clinton-Gore Administration, including Bill and Hillary
Clinton themselves, used confidential government files to destroy their
adversaries - Judicial Watch is concerned that similar misconduct will occur
to destroy Ashcroft, Chavez, and other conservative cabinet appointees.
Accordingly, Judicial Watch will investigate the activities of the ultra-left
and, where appropriate, bring legal actions to prevent harm to these
conservative leaders.

This is a project which Judicial Watch had not budgeted for in 2001, as is
true of its ongoing Florida election fraud investigation. For this reason, we
ask for your immediate emergency support to help prevent conservatives and
others from being destroyed by the smear campaign of ultra-leftist
revolutionaries, as well as our other cases.

Judicial Watch is fiercely non-partisan, but it will not countenance illegal
methods to smear and destroy conservatives with techniques reminiscent of
Karl Marx. It therefore will help those who, during the nomination process,
are branded as racists by Jesse Jackson and other ultra leftist
revolutionaries. This is not Russia in 1917. These latter-day 'Bolsheviks'
must be stopped.

Thank you for your immediate help. Send your tax deductible contribution to:

The lethal nature of medicine in centuries past is well documented, however the

Your points about midwifery are quite true, this is an area which women have always
been pre-eminent.

However, none of this alters the fact that, with the exception of a few hapy
co-incidences, the types of cures offered by 'Wise Women' etc., consisted mainly of
prayers, invoking of angels or devils, talismans, potions with no beneficial effect,
strange rituals (animal sacrifice, burying potatoes in the light of the moon, unlikely
aphrodisiacs) etc. I am sure there are numerous practices which have a negative effect
on subjects practiced by WW, but which aren't much touted by their fanclub.

[CTRL] Fw: Re: [CTRL] Voter Rights Violations

2001-01-08 Thread Amelia

-Caveat Lector-

Samantha,
You are citing exceptions to the normal rule. Note that they ran unopposed,
not really requiring a primary. This usually just annoys the local election
officials for having to print two ballots. So you have refuted me and proven
that just as many Republicans run at the local level as Democrats in the
South and always have. That is what you are implying and have proven
conclusively. Obviously, I do not know what I am talking about, do I?

From time to time, a local candidate will
run as a Republican, just as I originally stated, but to vote for that
candidate in the primary would require giving up the right to vote for the
rest of the candidates, by far the majority, in the Democratic primary. It
is encouraging to see more candidates running as Republicans on a local
level. The fact that the majority of the counties went for Bush in the
general election is different than the primaries. I usually vote a split
ticket in the general election.

I think Louisiana has the right idea of non-partisan primaries. Republicans
running at the local level has only begun to happen over recent years.

And why is Florida not the Deep South? Can't get much deeper. True, it has
been over-run by "retirees" and the immigration population is very large.
This has changed the make up of the population but many of the laws and
traditions remain the same through the years. With the influx of people, it
has made possible a "Chicago style" election apparently. They have always
had problems in this area anyway.

So where are your Democrats? If I am so wrong, why are they not at the DOJ
right now demanding something be done? How foolish I was to waste my time
trying to explain how this could happen when you obviously know far, far
more than I do about what goes on in my own and surrounding states. What a
fool I am to attempt to explain anything to one who knows everything about
the subject! And can actually find a couple of Republican candidates in
recent elections to proove it! The South has evidently always LOVED
Republicans locally. How could I be so misinformed?? Thank goodness I have
you and your "sources" to clear up all these years of confusion where I have
been so very, very wrong!

Your research did not show how many counties held only Democratic primaries.
If I can keep my computer from locking up, I will see if I can find that
information. One or two candidates from among, say, 50 is not equal
representation of both parties on the local level. I do not care whether or
not you "believe" me. I actually thought explaining this tradition might
shed some light and explain to you why your beloved Democrats are not taking
up your rally cry. Think whatever you like and continue your self-serving
denial of the facts of the way things are done. How does one so resourceful
as you explain this, do tell? Since my theory is so flawed, what is your
correct one? In my vast ignorance on my own voting history, I should be
informed by your superior knowledge on the matter lest I waste away in my
ignorant conditio

I certainly shall not waste any more of my time trying to explain why I
think some things happen the way they do for you have a mind set and are
intent on keeping it just that way. The fact that you would try to "refute"
somebody trying to shed light on the lack of Democratic support is a rather
strange thing to do. It is your right but do not be surprised when no
Democrats come to the aid of your cause. It is my opinion and my life
experience and believe it or not, I am entitled to have one, too. I was
merely wasting my time
trying to explain to you why this might be and how things have been done for
a very long time. You are not required to believe anything that I or any
one else posts. I know what I know and this is how it has been done in the
three states in the Deep South where I have voted. I stated that there were
exceptions but they are rare so jump on that and try to "prove" me wrong all
you like. But watch and see what happens and how many Democrats turn out to
be the poll workers cited in the incidents. Since you have "proven" me
wrong, I shall take that as your statement that the poll workers were
Republicans and we shall see. Besides, your Democrats will see that justice
is done in this matter. Don't worry. And DO hold your breath until they do
as you have "proven" there is no reason they should not. BTW, it is spelled
"Chattanooga."

Prudy,
I cannot help what lies were told at the time by others like yourself with a
need to exaggerate the racial problems of the South. At least Hammonds had
the decency to retract his, unlike you, and he is the source of the original
lies told. Of course those with an agenda such as yours are going to run
with the original inaccuracy and NEVER, NEVER change any ideas set in your
mind which are contrary to what you want so badly to believe in the first
place.

Some accounts further fabricated her being turned away at not one but three
hospitals. And one consummate liar took it upon himself to write a play
based on this fabrication. That is when it turns into propaganda, which is
all it ever was.

Samantha,
I am oh so sorry Dalton Robert's post was not written to your high standards
of clarity. He is far on up in years and is a blues singer who possibly
knows as much on the subject as anybody still living. His advanced age
causes some of us to overlook shortcuts he might take in writing. I just
appreciated the hell out of his taking the time to answer me in the first
place. Clearly he meant neither and was referring to Bessie being the
injured one. How good of you, and typical, to point out this lapse in
phraseology of someone so ancient! BTW, he does write professionally.
Amazing how others are able to understand him. Allow me to apologize on his
behalf to you for writing something that "does not make sense" to you, the
standard of what does and does not make sense. How could he be so stupid!!
Good thing you are there to point this out and I truly hope when you
approach his years, you, too, will be blessed with people such as yourself
to prevent your committing such horrendous blunders! Just because a person
lives to be so old does not give them the right to not "make sense" in
posting to far more important folks like you.

See excerpt and source below. Save your time, Samantha, finding outdated
sources from before this was clarified by the driver and others involved for
they do still exist, left uncorrected those so reluctant to let go of a lie
so self-serving that they love so much.

On the eve of John Hammond's departure to Mississippi to bring her back to
New York, September 27, 1937, to record again, Bessie Smith was in an
automobile accident just below Clarksdale, Mississippi on the main road to
Memphis. Her right arm was nearly severed in the crash, and Bessie died from
loss of blood. In a 1937 article by John Hammond he reported that Bessie
Smith died after being denied admission to a hospital because of her skin
color. However Hammond has since admitted his report was based on hearsay,
and those since interviewed who had direct knowledge of the events have made
it clear that this was not the case.

[CTRL] Fw: Bessie Smith again

2001-01-08 Thread Amelia

-Caveat Lector-

June,
Got this from Dalton Roberts on Bessie in regard to abusive relationships.
He also sent me a post concerning a man with whom she was not having a
relationship but threw out of an after hours club in Chattanooga, physically
and unaided. The man hid in the bushes and stabbed Bessie when she was
leaving but she chased him of three blocks before she collapsed!
Her relationships sound absolutely dysfunctional but at times Bessie could
be the abuser as well as the abused.

[CTRL] Fw: NOV - DEC coldest on record

2001-01-08 Thread Amelia

So are we in immenent danger from global warming or
not?http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/aponline/20010105/aponline133428_000.htmNov.-Dec. Was Coldest on Record By
Randolph E. Schmid Associated Press Writer Friday, Jan. 5, 2001; 1:34
p.m. EST WASHINGTON The suspicions of millions of shivering
Americans were confirmed Friday by government weather experts it was
the nation's coldest November-December period. "Two months in a row of
much below average temperatures resulted in the coldest November-December
U.S. temperature on record, 33.8 degrees Fahrenheit," said Jay Lawrimore,
chief of the Climate Monitoring Branch at the National Climatic Data Center.
This broke the old record of 34.2 set in 1898. It was the country's
second coldest November nationwide and the seventh coldest December,
according to records kept by the Center in Asheville, N.C. And the outlook
isn't cheering. National Weather Service Director Jack Kelly said the
weather of 2000 was shaped by variability and extremes, which will continue
throughout the winter. "The eastern and western United States will
experience additional cold outbreaks at least through March with periods of
moderation in between," he said. The wintry weather was not unexpected,
however, with the Weather Service calling for a return to more normal winter
conditions after several years of mild winters, Lawrimore noted. The El
Nino-La Nina weather phenomenon in the Pacific Ocean has faded into a near
neutral state, eliminating that strong weather influence of the last few
years. Now conditions are more like those of the 1970s, he said, with the
jet stream the fast, high-level wind that helps direct the movement of
weather forming a trough in the central and eastern United States,
bringing cold arctic air southward It's a little bit unusual for this
pattern to persist for two months, however, rather than having a period of
cold followed by a warmup then more cold, Lawrimore explained.
Forty-three states within the contiguous U.S. recorded below average
temperatures during the November-December period, according to records kept
by the Center, a division of the government's National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration. The only states with near-normal
temperatures were Nevada, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. The
national averages do not include Alaska and Hawaii. The report noted
that severe conditions hit the Central and Southern Plains particularly
hard. It was the coldest November-December on record in Oklahoma, Arkansas
and Missouri and the second coldest such two-month period for Illinois,
Iowa, Kansas, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Heavy snow also accompanied
the cold in many areas. The record cold was a sharp change from most of last
year, which began with the warmest winter on record. Above normal
temperatures continued through October and made the January through October
2000 period the warmest such ten-month period since national temperature
records began in 1895. Preliminary data indicates that 2000 will wind up the
13th warmest year on record in the U.S., 1.2 F above the long-term average
of 52.8, the Center reported. On the Net:

Actually, money and poverty has always been a major issue within
the church and I do believe that some groups who advocated
following Jesus' example and living austerely, frugally, and sharing
cooperatively with others --which you may call "socialistic" or even
"communistic" --have been excommunicated for the commission of

The Church, it seems, is aligned with money--since money gives
power. Humility and poverty are reserved for poor priests whose
parishes embrace the poor in remote outposts. "The Name of the

central issue and it did involve, if I remember correctly, advocating
poverty as a heresy.

Merlin

It’s from the Welsh, “Merddin,” who was a “derwydd,” or Druid.
According to Graves (White Goddess, p. 39), “An early Cornish poem
describes . . . the Druid Merddin . . .”

This should be distinguished from “merlin,” a small falcon (Falco
columbarius) of northern regions, which has predominantly dark plumage
and a black-striped tail. It is also called pigeon hawk. It’s name is
Middle English from Anglo-Norman “merilun,” from Old French
“esmerillon,” diminutive of “esmeril” of Germanic origin.

You're quite right. I had never heard of this person before you
mentioned 'her'

This is the very best reason possible for you to not pass judgment on
her work, at least in public where people can call you on it.

(and here was poor ignorant, historically illiterate I

You said it.

thinking that Merlin was a man's name).

So are Lee, Dana, and Evelyn.

Let me know what book/s has she written and I will look it up.

The best place to start with Stone is:

  When God Was a Woman
  ISBN: 015696158X

Try to get an edition with the original illustrations (i.e. not the
Barnes and Noble edition), as the archeological evidence she employs is
far more compelling when viewed than when described.

Then read:

Goddesses and Gods of Old Europe, 6500-3500 B.C. :
  Myths, and Cult Images

  by Marija Gimbutas
  ISBN: 0520046552

To be honest, she sounds like some sort of New Age fruitcake who knits
her own yoghurt and probably writes books making just as much sense. But
I'm just making assumptions.

Indeed you are, and with nothing whatsoever to base them on but her name
and subject matter. This indicates a profound lack intelligence on your
part. I’m not saying you don’t have any intelligence. You may. But you
certainly aren’t putting it to use.

Science is based on objectivity. If you can’t approach a new subject
with an open mind, you can’t possibly hope to learn anything. Minds, as
the saying goes, are like parachutes; they only work when open.

However, I must say, “knits her own yoghurt” is a great line. I fully
intend to expropriate it.

I won't answer that, as I suspect you are being flippant.

Puns, on the other hand, are the lowest form of wit. Come now, you can
do better than that.

What's my life got to do with anything?

It’s a prime example of how stories can be true without having been
written down. Alas, the vast, overwhelming majority, in fact virtually
all, stories are never written down. There isn’t enough paper.

Yes, but similarly because something isn't written down makes it far
less likely to be true, just as something which is written down is more
likely to be true.

Prove it. Be specific. Cite references and their qv.

OK then, what (in brief) physical evidence do they provide which I am
ignorant of?

Read the books I recommended. At the very least, look at the pictures.

Do they have letters from one witch to another from anytime pre 1950?

Come now. Who would be stupid enough to commit to writing an admission
that they had committed a crime, particularly during the centuries long
period when that crime carried a death sentence.

Have they found and translated some witches texts from middle ages or
ancient greece which provide a clear link to modern wiccans?

No. But then how could a text from the Middle Ages or ancient Greece
provide a clear link? An unbroken chain of texts could perhaps do this,
assuming they could all be proven valid, but isolated texts cannot. What
the texts from the Middle Ages and ancient Greece do provide is strong
circumstantial evidence. In modern courts of law, people are routinely
condemned to death with less evidence. Just because evidence is
circumstantial doesn’t make it less valid evidence. The proverbial
“smoking gun” itself is, by definition, circumstantial evidence.

The wiccans have nil in the way of evidence.

That you know about. But then you don’t know very much about the field
at all.

This is nonsense. 'Maybe' there is evidence. I admit it's possible, but
I very much doubt it. I notice that you aren't exactly eager to provide
any of this evidence from your clearly greater knowledge of this subject
than us mere mortals. Please do enlighten us.

I recommended a couple books. You ignored me. I just did it again. Are
you going to ignore me again?

There are no digs for wiccan artefacts because there are none.

How do you know if you refuse to even read the literature of the field?

If you can stop criticizing me (for I've obviously struck a nerve)
perhaps you can point me to the error in my beliefs, rather than making
all osrts of wild assumptions.

I have, repeatedly. I will repeat. (1.) You are willfully ignorant. (2.)
You say you are not.

Again, this 'Merlin Stone' sounds like a new age lunatic.

How do you know if you have never read her books? And why should we we

HOOVER INSTITUTION WANTS COVER OPERATIONS, NOW MORE THAN EVER!
Covert Operations, Now More Than Ever

HOOVER INSTITUTION,  HOOVER DIGEST, 2000 No. 2  Thomas H. Henriksen © 2000

With its increased reliance on high-tech "smart" bombs, Washington seems to have forgotten a much less costly, more humane, and often more effective form of warfare—the covert operation.

Lord Acton's famous maxim about the corruptive influence of power is just as true with regard to "absolute" military force as it is with regard to power in the domestic political realm. He might even have added that command of un-matched technological prowess can blind policymakers to lower-profile, lower-cost ways to achieve their nation's goals. Some security problems can be solved with a sledgehammer or only with a sledgehammer. But far more common are those foreign policy challenges that can be solved—or prevented altogether—by measures short of violent conflict, even where routine diplomatic instruments prove ineffective.

As the reigning superpower, the United States must not eschew forceful diplomacy or violence in extremis when its strategic interests are at stake. But Washington's current over reliance on aerial bombardment as the weapon of second (if not first) resort diminishes America's prestige, sullies its espousal of a liberal-democratic new world order, and endangers its strategic relations with other major powers.

Less-confrontational options can achieve U.S. goals without the harmful side effects that include a strained Western alliance and strained relations with China and Russia, not to mention civilian deaths and material destruction. That less-confrontational option is covert or indirect action abroad, and it offers today, no less than during the Cold War, an effective alternative to the unacceptable risks and costs of military operations.
The Yugoslavian bombing campaign and the long series of air strikes against Iraq raise afresh the issue of how and why America should pursue its foreign policy agenda. Kosovo made clear, to some observers at least, that the United States should not wade into middle-sized conflicts in places with unpronounceable names and little strategic value, no matter what the extent of human suffering. Americans cannot, after all, make the lions lie down with the lambs, everywhere and for all time. Other critics concluded that Washington should have done more sooner in Kosovo, deploying ground troops and risking casualties in order to win a battle for international moral
conduct.

But the first opinion gives short shrift to the consequences that an unchecked slaughter in Europe could hold for that continent, whereas the second appears impractical because the stakes—even in President Clinton's view—were not worth the political problems that could result from the shedding of American blood in a distant country for obscure goals. The ambiguous rationale for involvement resulted in an air campaign and not a war, a characterization that the Clinton administration scrupulously avoided.
But as it turned out, the relentless air strikes, often against civilian targets, sapped the moral high ground that Clinton coveted. They failed to halt Belgrade's atrocities in Kosovo, damaged relations with China and Russia over a nonstrategic issue, risked NATO's unity, and left Slobodan Milosevic in power. One is left to wonder whether the necessity of "doing something" to address a genuine humanitarian and political crisis could have inspired an earlier, more effective, and less violent response lying between the extremes of disengagement and war.

To be sure, a reliance on air power reflects our technologically oriented civilization. High-altitude bombing promises to override historical complexities. But it ignores the fact that intractable ethnic and political conflicts are often resistant to technological quick fixes. It is not enough just to make low-tech regimes in places like Serbia and Iraq "hunker down"; it means ridding them of their predatory leaders. And that requires a dramatic paradigm shift back to covert action as the policy option of choice. Such operations have often leveraged the preponderance of U.S. power to secure outcomes favorable to American aims, and their effectiveness stemmed in part from the perception in a target country that the United States had thrown its weight behind one side in a crisis. Direct military intervention proved unnecessary. Indeed, one might even conclude that direct military intervention, far from being the way to ensure policy success, is a proof of policy failure.

Indirect methods rely less on cutting-edge technologies and employment of force and more on American operatives' mastering local politics, understanding different cultures, and learning foreign languages. Above all, they call for political judgment and continuous, anticipatory attention to the world beyond American shores. Briefly,

[CTRL] Salon-John Ashcroft's big mistake

2001-01-08 Thread William Shannon
John Ashcroft's big mistake
He denied Ronnie White a federal judgeship for being soft on crime, when his grudge was against his pro-choice politics. Either way, the move cost him his Senate seat -- and could block his confirmation as attorney general.
- - - - - - - - - - - -
By Eric Boehlert
Jan. 8, 2001 | He couldn't have known it at the time. But on Oct. 4, 1999, when Missouri Sen. John Ashcroft rose on the floor of the United States Senate to oppose the nomination of a black Missouri judge to the federal bench, the conservative Republican was about to give the most politically damaging speech of his 25-year career.
At that moment it represented a triumph for Ashcroft. He'd dropped plans to win the 2000 Republican presidential nomination due to little support, and he'd made an equally lackluster run to become chairman of the Republican National Committee in 1993. So Ashcroft's ability to convince every one of his GOP colleagues to join with him in voting down the nomination of Missouri Supreme Court Justice Ronnie White -- the first time Republicans had publicly rejected one of President Clinton's judicial nominees -- signaled real influence within the Republican Party.
Standing on the floor of the Senate, Ashcroft seemed to go out of his way to belittle and ridicule White. The Missouri senator labeled the Democratic judge "pro-criminal," and cautioned colleagues that White would substitute "personal politics" for the law, and "improperly exercise his will" if confirmed. That, despite the fact that White's judicial record was not all that different from judges Ashcroft had appointed to the Missouri Supreme Court when he was governor.
After the vote Ashcroft crowed that White's defeat was a victory for Missouri law enforcement. Instead, the "victory" haunts Ashcroft to this day. It ended his elected political career last Nov. 7, when Ashcroft lost his first statewide runoff in more than two decades. And now it appears to be the only obstacle standing in the way of him becoming George W. Bush's attorney general, as critics prepare to use the White nomination to question both Ashcroft's racial tolerance and his sense of political fair play.
That's a high price to pay for opposing a district judge, which is why in retrospect Ashcroft's militant objection to White -- or his "marathon public crucifixion," as one of Ashcroft's own fund-raisers put it last year -- seems so puzzling, and oddly personal.
No doubt it was actually political. Ashcroft thought tarring White with the pro-crime brush, and defeating his nomination, would help him in his reelection battle with Missouri Gov. Mel Carnahan, who'd gotten into political hot water after he commuted a death sentence in 1999 at the behest of Pope John Paul II.
While White's defeat galvanized African-Americans, who believe Ashcroft's crusade had racial overtones, the Republican's grudge against the moderate Missouri judge may have had more to do with Ashcroft's extreme anti-abortion agenda than either race or purported concerns about White's toughness on crime. Ashcroft and White had battled over abortion in Missouri since the early 1990s, when White was a state legislator and Ashcroft was governor.
Why would the rabidly anti-abortion Ashcroft cloak his opposition to White's nomination in terms of concern about crime? Politics. In the normally collegial Senate, there's an unwritten agreement that abortion won't be used by either side as a litmus test to block nominees. Ashcroft may have also gambled, and lost, that a crusade against White based on abortion would cost him more politically than one based on concerns about crime -- which, when used against a black judge, couldn't help but have racial overtones.
Perhaps Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who will certainly press Ashcroft about the White battle during his upcoming confirmation hearing, will have better luck figuring out exactly why the Republican fought his fellow Missourian's relatively low-level nomination so fiercely. In fact, White himself may appear before the committee. More than a year after White's rejection, many political observers in Missouri, who doubt that White is either a pro-criminal jurist or an anti-death penalty zealot, are still scratching their heads over Ashcroft's ill-conceived and ultimately self-destructive crusade.
"It's perplexing," says Ken Warren, professor of political science at St. Louis University. "Republicans and Democrats alike cannot understand Ashcroft's opposition to Ronnie White." For Ashcroft politically, "it was like injecting cyanide into his veins," says Warren.
White's defeat stunned Democrats and created a firestorm of controversy, with President Clinton labeling the vote a "disgraceful act." In Missouri, tempers flared for weeks, particularly among African-Americans who were outraged Ashcroft not only opposed White's nomination but, they insist, routinely and maliciously misrepresented his judicial record.

Title: RE: [CTRL] Bus Won Popular Vote - We Shall See

Even if Bush did win the popular vote... More voters may have turned out knowing that it was a popular vote in which the decision for President would have been made. Example, I'm in Oklahoma, I knew we'd vote Republican, hence I didn't waste my time at the voting booth as I'm a rep also... If it was a popular vote, I would have been in that booth casting my vote. You can say this for both reps and dems. So the This guy would have won had it been a popular vote argument is not a valid nor legitimate one.

I. EDITORS' NOTE

Those who care about the responsible use of new genetic technologies
know that efforts to set human society on a path toward a techno-eugenic
future continue to gather momentum. Challenges to halt this momentum are
just beginning to develop. The human project is truly at a critical
crossroads--hence our new name.

We want to encourage readers to share and post GENETIC CROSSROADS widely,
and to tell us of news and events that are important for others to know.
Let's help make 2001 the year that human society begins to re-assert
control over the future of the human species.

II. NEWS AND POINTERS

1. E Magazine Cover Story: "Designing People"

The cover story of E Magazine's January 2001 issue, "Designing People"
by Sally Deneen, provides the environmental media's first in-depth
coverage of the push for human germline manipulation and the emerging
resistance to it. From the article:

"The idea of redesigning human beings and animals to suit the primarily
commercial goals of a limited number of individuals is fundamentally at
odds with the principle of respect for nature." -- Brent Blackwelder,
president, Friends of the Earth; Robert Musil, executive director,
Physicians for Social Responsibility.

"If people are concerned that there was such a severe backlash against
genetically modified foods, I think they haven't seen anything compared
to the backlash when we are able to alter the human genome." -- Beth
Burrows, director, Edmonds Institute.

"[W]hat we're talking about is a very deep understanding of what it means
to be part of an intricate web of life, and why we have boundaries between
speciesThis is no `marginal' movement or way of thinking. The group
advocating human re-engineering includes extremely powerful, influential
and wealthy people. So don't expect them to roll over easily or soon."
-- Ignacio Chapela, professor, Department of Environmental Science, Policy
and Management, University of California, Berkeley.

2. French Best-Selling Novel Celebrates a Post-Human Future

The new literary-artistic embrace of the techno-eugenic vision continues
with publication in English of the 1998 French bestseller The Elementary
Particles by Michel Houellebecq (Knopf, 2000). Houellebecq offers an
unrelentingly dreary, dispiriting assessment of the possibility of
meaningful human relationships at the turn of the millenium, but holds
out the promise that genetic engineering and cloning will allow creation
of a new post-human species that transcends humanity's tragic flaws.

From the book (pp 262-264): "There remain some humans of the old species.
At present their extinction seems inevitable. Contrary to the doomsayers,
this extinction is taking place peaceably, despite occasional acts of
violence, which also continue to decline. It has been surprising to note
the meekness, resignation, perhaps even secret relief with which humans
have consented to their own passing."

FOWL' PLAY MADE PAIR THINK PLANE WENT DOWN

By LARRY CELONA and WILLIAM NEUMAN

The search for a small plane that two New Jersey women thought they
saw crash into the Hudson River turned out yesterday to be a
   wild-goose chase.

A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service pilot came forward to say he'd been
flying low over the river - counting ducks and other waterfowl - at
8:30 a.m. Friday, the same time the women reported the supposed
crash.

His plane - a Partenabia Navion P68 Observer - matched the
description
of the white-and-blue aircraft the women told cops they'd seen flying
over the George Washington Bridge before dropping into the river.

The pilot, identified by police as Mark Konoff, told officials he
flew
over the bridge and then came in low over the water to conduct his
   survey.

Konoff was unaware of the search-and-rescue operation until he
learned
of an FAA crash alert yesterday morning - and realized the
description
of the plane and the flight path matched his own.

The pilot "flew over the George Washington Bridge and then descended
over the Hudson at an altitude of about 100 feet," said Jim Peters, a
spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

"He was looking for ducks, then he flew off."

At the same time, Leigh Russo, a human-resources executive from
Dumont, N.J., was driving across the bridge and used her cell phone
to
call 911 - telling cops that she and a friend saw the plane go into
   the water.

Police divers began searching the river immediately.

Konoff learned of the crash alert when he called the Federal Aviation
Administration to file a flight plan for the area around Albany,
Syracuse and Watertown in upstate New York - where he was counting
   more ducks yesterday.

Fish and Wildlife Service spokesman Craig Rieben described Konoff's
   work as "routine."

He said the pilot would also have filed a flight plan with the FAA
prior to his Hudson River trip, although it might not have been
specific enough for officials to connect his aircraft to the crash
   report any earlier.

"It's unfortunate that somebody thought we went down," Rieben said.

George the Second, President-Select, takes office as the first U.S.
president of the Twenty-first Century under an unprecedented cloud. Despite
his media-maintained mantle of "inevitability," "Dubya" came in second to
Al Gore in the balloting across the country, and even in the actual vote in
the pivotal state of Florida.

Bush's coup clings to a fig leaf of legality by virtue of the approval of
five Justices of the US Supreme Court, all appointed or elevated by
Reagan-Bush or Bush-Quayle. In Chile or the Philippines, such a coup would
require bloody repression to enforce and martial law to maintain. Even in
imperial metropoles like France or Germany, it would be greeted by massive
street protests and civil strife. Yet in the U.S., the predominant response
has been "relief" that the electoral uncertainty is over.

Bush's mass base is in the old Confederacy, and he won through large-scale
disenfranchisement of Black voters. Fittingly, he serves due to the
Electoral College mechanism designed to placate the slave owning states,
and by the anointment of 5 reactionaries and racists on the US Supreme
Court. But he also "won" because in the campaign and in the post-electoral
contest, Gore and the Democrats were more afraid of waking up the voters or
rocking the boat, than they were of allowing Bush and the GOP to take
power. Bush relies on the complacency of even most Democratic voters, and
the still larger body of people who don't bother to vote. His reign, like
those of supposedly more "legitimate" presidents, ultimately rests on the
fact that masses of people in this country continue to "buy in" to our own
oppression

What has this "civics lesson from hell" taught us about the true nature of
the government and society of the United States? Americans have learned
that our votes don't count, may not be counted, and that in fact, under the
Constitution, there is no "right to vote."

Not only this time, but every time, the campaign and election are a
necessary spectacle, a grand farce, a ceremonial exercise whose winner is
pre-ordained, a contest with carefully circumscribed parameters so that,
whoever wins, the rulers win.

Well, the sausage-maker who has seen what goes into the casing would never
eat a link. Hopefully, this exposure of the everyday criminality and
subterfuge that passes for democracy will deepen our distaste to the point
that the legitimacy of the entire state apparatus, not just the head of
state, is called into question. We must begin to withdraw our consent to be
governed in this way.

It's a measure of the system's intolerance for even the narrowest dissent
from the economic and political program demanded by the corporate elite,
that they were forced to resort to this level of naked coup to install Bush
in power. Gore and Bush differ only marginally on the best way to maintain
and extend the U.S. empire and corporate economic interests. Even so, the
more naked white supremacist and Christian right Bush camp could not
countenance a Gore victory. They resent any concessions to the people of
color, organized labor, bourgeois feminists and environmentalists in the
Democratic Party's mass base.

Opponents of Bush and defenders of democracy must recognize not only that
Bush won the dollar election of corporate contributions, but also that an
overwhelming majority of white male voters, and even a bare majority of
white women voters, went for Bush, an ill-prepared and dim-witted liar
whose main claim to the office, apart from inheritance, was his alleged
"affability." This is a measure of the continuing grip of white supremacy
and allegiance to empire on masses of Euro-Americans. It is this racist
racial solidarity which must be broken with and challenged directly. More
so than guns or the media monopoly, it is the main strength and resource of
the system of exploitation and oppression.

The problem is not just the illegitimacy of the gangster scion of a
gangster family -- the Kennebunkport Corleones or Texas Prizzis, as the
Bushes have been called -- though their multi-generational involvement in
the secret government that links the intelligence agencies, organized
crime, the fascists and the

Don't Blame Liberals for Gun Control
By Richard Poe
FrontPageMagazine.com | January 8, 2001
URL: http://www.frontpagemag.com/editors_note/en01-08-01.htm

ANTI-GUN CRUSADERS seem worried about the advent of a Republican
administration. Heaven knows why. Republicans, in recent years, have
managed to do nearly as much damage to the Second Amendment as Democrats.

In 1969, journalist William Safire asked Richard Nixon what he thought
about gun control. "Guns are an abomination," Nixon replied. According to
Safire, Nixon went on to confess that, "Free from fear of gun owners'
retaliation at the polls, he favored making handguns illegal and requiring
licenses for hunting rifles."

It was President George Bush, Sr. who banned the import of "assault
weapons" in 1989, and promoted the view that Americans should only be
allowed to own weapons suitable for "sporting purposes."

It was Governor Ronald Reagan of California who signed the Mulford Act in
1967, "prohibiting the carrying of firearms on one's person or in a
vehicle, in any public place or on any public street." The law was aimed
at stopping the Black Panthers, but affected all gun owners.

Twenty-four years later, Reagan was still pushing gun control. "I support
the Brady Bill," he said in a March 28, 1991 speech, "and I urge the
Congress to enact it without further delay."

One of the most aggressive gun control advocates today is Republican mayor
Rudolph Giuliani of New York City, whose administration sued 26 gun
manufacturers in June 2000, and whose police commissioner, Howard Safir,
proposed a nationwide plan for gun licensing, complete with yearly
"safety" inspections.

Another Republican, New York State Governor George Pataki, on August 10,
2000, signed into law what The New York Times called "the nation's
strictest gun controls," a radical program mandating trigger locks,
background checks at gun shows and "ballistic fingerprinting" of guns sold
in the state. It also raised the legal age to buy a handgun to 21 and
banned "assault weapons," the sale or possession of which would now be
punishable by seven years in prison.

Gun control crusaders argue that the Republicans are simply yielding to
grassroots pressure, to gain political advantage. But polls show little
evidence of such pressure

A Gallup/CNN/USA Today survey taken in June 1999 - only two months after
the Littleton massacre - showed that the number of Americans who favored
stricter gun laws had declined by 20 percent since 1990.

Public support for gun control has dwindled even further since then. An
Associated Press poll released on the one-year anniversary of the
Littleton shootings shows that Americans favor strict enforcement of
existing laws over new gun laws - the exact position of the National Rifle
Association (NRA) - by 42 to 33 percent.

That same month, a survey by the Pew Research Center showed that only 6
percent of Americans believed that tougher gun laws would prevent future
school shootings.

Meanwhile, a Tarrance Group poll has shown that only 5 percent of
Americans want gunmakers and gun dealers held responsible for misuse of
firearms.

Clearly, the pressure for gun control is not coming from the grassroots.
It comes from those layers of society that the left calls the "ruling
classes" - academics, Hollywood stars, Washington insiders and
multibillion-dollar media conglomerates.

The latter are particularly influential in pushing anti-gun propaganda. A
study by the Media Research Center released in January 2000 showed that
television news stories calling for stricter gun laws outnumbered those
opposing such laws by a ratio of 10 to 1.

The blame for this media bias is traditionally assigned to "liberal
journalists." And, indeed, most journalists do hold left-of-center views.
A 1996 survey of working journalists by the Roper Center and the Freedom
Forum showed that 89 percent had voted for Bill Clinton in 1992. Only 4
percent identified themselves as Republicans and only 2 percent as
conservatives.

Yet, their "liberal" views probably have less impact on the media's
anti-gun bias than most people assume. Rank-and-file reporters have little
power to influence the political spin even of their own stories.

When I worked at the New York Post in the mid-1980s, I found the newsroom
filled with liberals. They grumbled constantly about the paper's
conservative slant. But they went along with it, because it was company
policy.

Liberal news organizations are no different. Political bias comes from the
top. Rank-and-file reporters simply do what they are told.

Those of us who cherish our Second Amendment rights are keeping our
fingers crossed about George W. Bush. But the monolithic commitment
America's "ruling classes" have shown toward gun control makes one wonder
whether even a president is free to buck the current.

0026. Reservists airlift Mars craft to Kennedy Space Center

by Maj. Tom Deall
Air Reserve Personnel Center Public Affairs

DENVER (AFPN) -- A 315th Airlift Wing C-17 Globemaster III aircrew from
Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., transported the 2001 Mars Odyssey
spacecraft from Buckley AFB, Colo., to Cape Canaveral at the Kennedy Space
Center, Fla., Jan. 4.

The Odyssey spacecraft, costing more than $176 million, is destined for the
planet Mars. With a launch date of April 7, the craft will travel more than
400 million miles, said program manager Bob Berry of Lockheed Martin.
However, to make the voyage, the spacecraft had to go to Florida for
processing and loading on a Delta II rocket.

"The Delta II rocket gets the Odyssey spacecraft on its way," said Jack
Farmerie Jr., a Lockheed Martin spacecraft technician. "The rocket provides
a three-stage operation during which it releases the Odyssey in the final
stage."

Like a bullet, the Odyssey is shot toward Mars where it spends the next
seven months in flight until reaching its final destination, Farmerie said.
To do this, the spacecraft travels more than 15,000 mph. Once near the red
planet and before starting the Mars orbit insertion, the spacecraft must
begin aerobraking.

"Over a period of 76 days, the craft slows down to enter the elliptical
orbit," Berry said. "There, the Odyssey will remain while scientists
collect information here on Earth about Mars."

At 8 feet high, 6 feet wide and weighing 1,650 pounds fully loaded, the
Odyssey has the capability of sending data back to Earth in only 15 minutes.
The spacecraft also has an onboard brain that can detect any problems or
anomalies allowing scientists days or weeks to react to problems.

The total cost of the operation, including the science payload, navigation
equipment, operations, etc., is $300 million.

Master Sgt. Jack Lewis, 701st Airlift Squadron loadmaster, captured the
feeling of the entire crew about being assigned the mission.

"Being tasked to fly this mission tells me that we are needed and that we
provide a vital role for our nation," Lewis said. "We're here to move
equipment and people for the Air Force. I consider it a compliment to have
been asked to do such an important mission. (Courtesy of Air Force Reserve
Command News Service)

0021. Undersecretary says farewell to Air Force

WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- After serving on active duty for 20 years as an airman,
noncommissioned officer and a commissioned officer, and the last 17 months
as undersecretary of the Air Force, Carol DiBattiste has said goodbye to the
Air Force and is returning to civilian life. Her resignation is official
Jan. 8.

"It has been phenomenal being part of the most powerful Air Force in the
world," DiBattiste said. "I've had the best job anyone could ever imagine.
We've got the best and brightest people serving this great nation. The Air
Force has been my family since my first day at basic training nearly 30
years ago. Words can't describe how much I am going to miss it and our
great people."

DiBattiste will become a partner at the law firm Holland Knight. She will
begin practicing in Washington in March and will relocate to its Miami
office shortly thereafter.

While holding the Air Force's second-highest civilian position, DiBattiste
paved the way in tackling two of the most severe challenges facing today's
military: recruiting and retention. During her tenure, the Air Force
exceeded its fiscal 2000 recruiting goal of 34,000 by 369 recruits, after
coming off of fiscal 1999's shortfall of 1,732 recruits -- the first time
the service missed its recruiting goal in 20 years.

The Air Force also implemented several new initiatives to boost its low
retention rates including subsidizing extended child-care hours,
establishing wing career assistance advisers and enhancing spouse employment
opportunities. So far in fiscal 2001, the Air Force is witnessing
improvements in its enlisted retention rates. For the third consecutive
month, first-term re-enlistment rates have exceeded the goal of 55 percent.
Additionally, second-term rates have also improved from 69 percent to 70
percent, while career rates have remained steady at 91 percent.

"The combination of boosting our number of on-the-street recruiters, our
tremendous television ad campaign, the ability to expand our enlistment and
re-enlistment bonuses, and the push from all the senior leaders to get the
word out about the Air Force to communities across the country, is an
example of teamwork at its best," DiBattiste said.

"The Air Force is nothing without its people," she said. "We have the most
sophisticated aircraft and equipment on the planet, but without a dedicated
force of talented and professional men and women they are of little use."

DiBattiste was the service's first undersecretary with Air Force experience,
the first to have enlisted

‘The most ethical administration’

--

© 2001 WorldNetDaily.com

President Clinton’s first act after being sworn in Jan. 20, 1993, was issuing
an executive order establishing what he characterized as “the most ethical
administration in American history.”

His top aides would be banned from lobbying any agency of the U.S. government
for five years after leaving office, he said. They would be forever barred
from lobbying on behalf of any foreign government.

Clinton took that action less than half an hour after he was sworn in. That’s
how important it was. He got a big public relations boost from the action and
from his accompanying claim that he wanted to “send a signal that we are
going to change politics as usual.”

Clinton’s arrogant boast of creating “the most ethical administration”
quickly became a joke to those of us who followed the criminal and
sub-criminal activities of the president himself and many of his top
officials. But the real punch line came during the holidays.

When Clinton thought no one was watching -- while Americans were focused on
family and holiday activities and not paying much attention to the news -- he
revoked his first executive order and lifted the phony ban on the future
lobbying activities of his administration’s top officials.

White House mouthpiece Jake Siewert explained, in his usual disingenuous way,
that the order was no longer needed because there wasn’t much question of
Clinton appointees exerting influence with members of President Bush’s
incoming administration.

White House Counsel Beth Nolan went further: “The main policies underlying
the executive order no longer apply when there is a change of parties at the
White House. Because special access is no longer a concern, the special
measures contained in the executive order are no longer necessary.”

Do you believe this nonsense? First of all, there is more to the federal
government than the executive branch. Second, influence peddling in
Washington has always been a bipartisan scandal. Third, what about the
foreign lobbying? And fourth, if what Nolan and Siewert said is true, and
special access considerations are no longer a concern, why take any action at
all? Why was it necessary to revoke the executive order?

The truth of this action is this: Clinton is getting ready to cash in on his
eight years feeding at the public trough, and he is setting the stage to
allow his cronies to get their share of the action, too -- just as we always
knew they would.

“For him to set a higher standard and then quietly remove it at the end of
his administration is not just appalling, it’s breathtaking,” said Charles
Lewis, executive director of the Center for Public Integrity.

I’ll second that comment. Just when you think Clinton could no longer do
anything to shock you, he finds a new depth of hypocrisy to plumb.

“It’s just plain outrageous but I guess it’s not surprising given that it’s
Clinton and given all the things he has done,” added Lewis.

What can be done about this? I’m not confident much of anything. But I’ll
tell you what should be done. The incoming Bush administration should impose
its own ban on lobbying contacts from the former Clinton administration once
the transition is complete. Will Bush do it? I doubt it. The magnanimous
spirit of bipartisanship infects the incoming administration from top to
bottom.

There’s a lot of talk these days about the need to restore respect for
government institutions. Personally, I think it’s healthy that many Americans
distrust government. I would prefer to see even more Americans distrust
government. But how in the world are Americans expected to respect government
service and government institutions when the revolving door of influence
peddling continues so flagrantly?

I want you to know, America, that Clinton has, once again, insulted your
intelligence with this stroke of the pen. He thinks you aren’t watching. He
thinks you aren’t paying attention. He thinks you don’t care. He thinks you
won’t or can’t make him pay a price for this arrogance and for his eight
years of criminal reign.

I ask you, especially those who have criticized me for my skepticism of the
incoming Bush administration, to use your influence with the new regime.
Persuade Bush’s officials to punish the abuses of the last eight years.
Convince them to bar the collaborators from public service in the new
administration and from using their influence and access as lobbyists.

Clearly, the lesson of Clinton’s first executive order is that promises from
politicians don’t mean much. Action is what counts. Let’s demand action from
the Bush administration, not promises.

FBI and CIA Need Honest Directors
Reed Irvine
Friday, Jan. 5, 2001
Dear President-elect Bush:
Retaining Louis Freeh at the FBI and George Tenet at the CIA would signal
that you have no intention of making a clean break with the dishonorable
past. The FBI and CIA helped the Clinton White House cover up the truth about
the death of Vincent Foster and the cause of the crash of TWA Flight 800.
Both have refused FOIA requests for documents in their possession that would
show their complicity in these cover-ups. Have someone check out the Web site
FBIcover-up.com or examine the book "Failure of the Public Trust."

One of the authors, Patrick Knowlton, is a key eyewitness in the Foster case.
Another, John Clarke, is his attorney. They got the three judges who
appointed Ken Starr to order him to include with his report on the Foster
death a 20-page appendix that exposes its fatal flaws. Knowlton provided
evidence confirmed by two other eyewitnesses that proved that Foster’s car
did not reach the Fort Marcy parking lot until long after his death. Starr’s
FBI agents tried to get Knowlton to change his account of what he saw, and
they had him subjected to intimidating harassment when he refused to
cooperate in the cover-up.

The other two eyewitnesses who confirmed his testimony were still in the park
when Foster’s body was found. The description they gave of the one car they
had seen parked there agreed with Knowlton’s description. They were
questioned in sight of Foster’s light gray 1989 Honda Accord. They said that
the car they had seen parked in that space only an hour earlier was older,
smaller and brownish.

Special Prosecutor Robert Fiske and Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr
couldn’t refute what these eyewitnesses said, but they didn’t want to accept
it. Their reports misrepresented some of it and ignored most of it. The FBI
played an important role in the cover-up, and the CIA has been sitting on a
report since the day after Foster’s death that is believed to expose
deception by the U.S. Park Police. Accuracy in Media has filed a FOIA suit to
get it. They neither affirm nor deny that they have it.

I hope that you do not share the view of Sen. Don Nickles, who was asked by
Paul Weyrich in 1997 why the Republicans in Congress were not doing anything
about the Foster case. He said it was because "the implications of it all are
too horrible for us to deal with." Weyrich said, "When I asked him to
elaborate he replied, ‘Well, if Foster didn’t die the way Fiske says he did,
then it is likely the president is somehow involved, and if he is, the
democratic process simply can’t survive such a disclosure.’ " When Weyrich
made this public Nickles issued a denial, but I trust Paul Weyrich.

The FBI is also deeply involved in the cover-up of the cause of the crash of
TWA Flight 800. The Justice Department prosecuted journalist James D. Sanders
and TWA Capt. Terry Stacey, a member of the investigating team, because they
had a small strip of foam rubber from a seat on the plane analyzed to see if
a red residue could have come from a missile. The analysis showed that was
possible. The FBI, which has never published its own analysis, claimed the
residue was a 3-M adhesive, but analysis of the adhesive did not resemble the
analysis of the residue that was done for Sanders. FBI agents were seen
removing evidence, changing the location where it was found, and even
pounding it with a hammer to alter its shape. Not one was prosecuted.

The FBI and CIA collaborated to discredit every eyewitness who had seen
something that could have been a missile. The CIA produced a video simulation
of the crash. It was shown when James Kallstrom announced the closing of the
FBI investigation. The video was based on the theory that all those who said
they had seen a rocket or flare had really seen nothing but TWA 800 after it
blew up. It claimed that after the center-wing fuel tank exploded and the
nose broke off, the tail dropped and the huge jet shot up 3,000 feet,
trailing burning fuel.

It said some witnesses mistook that for a missile and others made the same
mistake when the plane was falling into the sea. But radar data show that the
speed of the plane increased from 385 knots to 460 knots after it blew up. It
accelerated because it was falling, not climbing. Eyewitnesses, including
Michael Wire and Dwight Brumley, who were praised by the CIA as excellent
witnesses, were insulted by the CIA’s misrepresentation of what they saw.

The FBI and CIA must be led by directors who will prove their honesty by
releasing the documents that will tell the truth about what happened to Vince
Foster, TWA 800 – and to the POWs we abandoned in Vietnam.

Assault on U.S. Sovereignty
Oliver North
Jan. 5, 2001

WASHINGTON – On New Year's Eve, while most Americans were at home or with
friends celebrating the advent of a new year, William Jefferson Clinton, with
but 21 days left in office, picked up a phone at the Camp David presidential
retreat and launched yet another effort to grant himself a legacy. The call
prompted David J. Scheffer, "U.S. ambassador-at-large for war-crimes issues,"
to race from Washington to U.N. headquarters in New York City to meet a
midnight deadline for making the United States a signatory to the 1998 Treaty
of Rome and the creation of an International Criminal Court (ICC).
With that one phone call, our soon-to-be-former head of state gained for
himself effusive accolades from the blame-America-first crowd – and committed
the ultimate assault on U.S. sovereignty.

In directing that the United States become one of the last of 138 nations to
sign this ill-advised document, Clinton formally obligated us to "uphold the
principles and purposes" of the ICC. By so doing, he has endangered the
liberty of every American civilian, military or public official, including
his successors as president. Most in the so-called mainstream media barely
noticed. But Senator Jesse Helms (Rep-N.C.) did. The chairman of the Senate
Committee for Foreign Relations, and an outspoken critic of the United
Nations, promptly released a statement declaring that one of his highest
priorities in the 107th Congress will be "to protect America's fighting men
and women from this international kangaroo court."

The White House, of course, spins it all differently, claiming in a statement
that "signature will enhance our ability to further protect U.S. officials
from unfounded charges." But, as Senator Helms and other critics point out,
that simply isn't true. Neither is the false assurance in the presidential
release that "court jurisdictions (sic) over U.S. personnel should come only
with U.S. ratification of the treaty." Either Bill Clinton is lying (could
that be?), or he hasn't bothered to wade through the fine print of the
five-inch thick, 128-article text of the treaty.

The ICC document creates an international star chamber under the auspices of
the UN that claims criminal jurisdiction over every person in the world,
regardless of whether their nation has ratified the treaty. What this might
mean to those of us who have placed their trust in the provisions of the
Fourth, Fifth, Sixth or Eighth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution will be up
to the interpretation of 18 judges – only one of whom may or may not be an
American.

Under the treaty, a U.S. soldier serving in Bosnia could be apprehended by
local authorities for an offense, real or imagined, turned over to the ICC
and flown to the Hague where he could rot for months, or await trial –
without the benefit of what we consider due process. No speedy trial; no
confronting accusers; no protection from double jeopardy; not even the
unanimous verdict of a jury is required for conviction. The ICC metes out
justice by majority vote of the foreign judges presiding at trail.

Articles 15, 42, 53, 54, 86 and 87 of the treaty grant the ICC prosecutor
global authority to bring charges anywhere, against anyone. The prosecutor
can collect secret evidence that's never revealed to the defendant – only to
the jurists hearing his or her case.

And it's not only "citizen soldiers" who are subject to the whimsy of this
system. Article 27 of the treaty grants the ICC jurisdiction over "Heads of
Nations, Legislators, Parliamentarians and Other Officials." Military
officers don't even have to know that a crime has been committed by the most
junior members of their units in order to be investigated and tried. Article
28 demands the prosecution of commanders who "should have known" that their
subordinates "were committing or about to commit" crimes.

This sounds fair to those who want to try Slobodan Milosevic, his military
commanders, and secret police thugs for decades of brutality in the Balkans.
It seems good for the perpetrators of mass genocide in Rwanda, Sierra Leone
or East Timor. But what about when it's our president, our Congress, our
Secretary of Defense, our CIA director, or our senior military commanders?
You don't have to be a xenophobe to ask if this really is about justice – or
is it about suborning American sovereignty?

Given these terrible liabilities, why did Bill Clinton wait until late on New
Year's Eve to make us signatories to this horrific treaty? Proponents of the
ICC say that it's to protect "human rights." But conspiracy buffs say that
our soon-to-be-unemployed-and-disbarred head of state is seeking a pad in New
York City, and claim this is all part of his plot to become secretary-general
of the U.N. Others observe that it's Bill Clinton's final revenge on the
military he loathes. Whatever it is,

Nitpicking the Cabinet
Brent Bozell
Jan. 5, 2001

If George W. Bush hopes to create a more successful presidency than his
father's, he will begin his term by recognizing the immutable Washington
reality that there is no reliable way of gaining love and praise from the
liberal media if you don't share their ideological bent. You could, of
course, surrender your principles (see Bush the First's disastrous
read-my-flips, tax-raising 1990 budget deal). But as that proved, it will do
you exactly zilcho good at re-election time.
The new Bush administration may appear to many Americans to be an opportunity
for a fresh political start, but there is no way the media elite will find
anything refreshing or exciting about the Republicans coming to town.
Instead, it will find a way to criticize the new team any way it can. When
Bush began with Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice, the media yawned, since
Bush had signaled their appointments months earlier. Besides, since neither
of these is tarred by an association with the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, not
much would have been fussed about in any event.

When Bush followed that with a slate of Dick Cheney's Ford administration
colleagues, the mood changed swiftly. Out came the usual pundits, making
jokes about Bush being Cheney's No. 2, and accusing the picks of being an old
and utterly boring set of retreads. (Couldn't all this previous experience in
government be a plus after eight years of the likes of county prosecutor
Janet Reno?) Clearly, media naysayers like Bryant Gumbel insisted, Bush is
signaling he's a weak leader who will allow his Cabinet to run the
government.

But then Bush named Sen. John Ashcroft as his attorney general designate, and
all media hell broke loose. How dare Bush nominate a ... a ... conservative!
The pro-aborts were ushered quickly onto the news sets to declare that
Ashcroft wouldn't enforce the laws protecting their abortion businesses.
Black leftists were given the microphone to portray Ashcroft as Missouri's
answer to David Duke.

Journalists jumped in. Time's Jack White called him an "extremist" whose
"positions on civil rights are about as sensitive as a hammer blow to the
head." It "raised questions about the sincerity of Bush's attempts to reach
out to blacks." Naturally, White said nothing about the sincerity of black
leaders after they put out a TV ad calling him a murderer and compared his
Florida forces to the racist cops who pummeled black protesters at Selma,
Ala., in the '60s.

When Bush named Gov. Christie Todd Whitman to run the Environmental
Protection Agency and former Colorado Attorney General Gale Norton to run the
Interior Department, the media awarded Bush no points for placating moderates
or pro-abortion Republican women. (The New York Times headline noted
"Conservative Ashcroft" would be nominated but didn't balance that by
referring to "liberal" or even "moderate" Whitman in the same headline. She
was just "Whitman.")

At the same time, Norton was portrayed as a frightening "James Watt protege."
Forget that the media never feel the need to accept that we somehow failed to
all get lung cancer and die during Watt's allegedly horrid reign in the
Reagan years.

Why is ideological guilt by association so acceptable when it's Republicans,
but never an issue with the Democrats? Were any of Bill Clinton's nominees
(or unconfirmed relatives) connected to their liberal mentors? Was Hillary
scarily described as a "Marian Wright Edelman protege"? Would her summer of
work for communist lawyer Robert Treuhaft make her a "communist protege"?

No. Instead, leftists like Donna Shalala were cast as centrists: Al Hunt
hilariously insisted Shalala was "no lefty" since the University of Wisconsin
football coach didn't want her to leave her college presidency. When
Hillary's leftist pick Lani Guinier was dumped, Newsweek called it "A Hard
Right Turn."

While some reporters noted the Cabinet nominees are far more pragmatic than
dogmatic, others, like Washington Post reporter Dana Milbank, found the
entire Bush gang to be "a firmly conservative Cabinet," exempting only
Whitman. Nobody in the press corps noted how Clinton assembled "a firmly
liberal Cabinet."

Will this new administration be dominated by conservatives driving an
ideological agenda? That certainly remains to be seen, but the odds don't
favor this at all. Cato Institute budget guru Steve Moore depressingly
predicts: "Now that the Republicans control the White House, the Senate and
the House, the federal budget is going to go through the roof – rising much
faster than it did even under Clinton."

The media aren't predicting the future here. They're just recycling the press
releases of liberal activist groups as they unload their opposition research
files on the Bush picks. The activist groups and their media friends don't
really expect any of these Cabinet picks will be dumped.

MTV SNUBS BUSH; NO INAUGURAL PARTY PLANNED AFTER CLINTON BLOWOUTS

**Exclusive**

After hosting two consecutive Inauguration celebrations for the Clinton
presidency, MTV NETWORKS has decided to snub George W. Bush when he takes the
oath in Washington later this month.

The final decision not to celebrate the new president was made by Sumner
Redstone, CEO of VIACOM, MTV's parent company, according to sources.

Repeated calls to Redstone, whose company recently awarded an $8 million book
deal to first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, went unreturned.

"We are not doing anything this year, we are sitting it out," confirmed MTV
spokeswoman Andrea Manning in New York on Monday morning.

When asked why MTV was not holding a Bush event this year, one MTV staffer in
New York laughed: "He's not a Democrat."

The Bush snub raises questions about MTV's claim that its Choose or Lose and
Rock the Vote campaigns are nonpartisan efforts to increase voter
participation with the nation's youth.

"We have no intention of endorsing any candidate in this race, directly or
indirectly," claimed Dave Sirulnick, director of MTV news in 1992.

Yet the network rolled out the red carpet and went heavy rotation after a
Clinton victory.

President Clinton proclaimed onstage at the MTV Ball in January 1993,
"Everybody here knows that MTV has a lot to do with the Clinton-Gore
victory."

"Thank you, MTV!" gloated Al Gore, in front of 4,000 partygoers. "Thank you
for winning this election. You did it!"

In '97, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton was honored at the MTV/CONDE NAST
"Pre-Inaugural Cocktail Party" at the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Rep. Barney
Frank and actor Kevin Spacey partied together at the Corcoran, along with
Sumner Redstone.

"The Bush family is in to the REAL thing, Country Western, so who cares what
these punks at MTV do," noted one observer.

Actually, money and poverty has always been a major issue within
the church and I do believe that some groups who advocated
following Jesus' example and living austerely, frugally, and sharing
cooperatively with others --which you may call "socialistic" or even

I very much admire the way the Amish, and others of that mindset, live.
I do not mean the beliefs they hold or their religious practices. What I
mean is they live simply, and well. They take care of the land, and
themselves at the same time. The are respectfull to each other and share

The Church, it seems, is aligned with money--since money gives
power. Humility and poverty are reserved for poor priests whose

There has been much research that shows the power of the mind over the
body. Some of the better known are the studies using cancer patients.
The ceremony was part of the cure. The patient believes that the
medicine will work and therefore it does. An advancement of the Placebo
Effect. Your mind can make you sick and your mind can heal your body.
Ceremony is the delivery vehicle. Makes no difference if it is White
Witchcraft, VooDoo, Christian Prayer or any other ceremony; if you
believe it will cure you then it probably will help you. Combine that
with knowledge of natural medicine and you have a pretty good medical
system for most patients. We know that brain surgery took place at least
5000 years ago, and the patients survived. (Healed areas in anciet skulls
prove this). We have physical evidence of the use of many herbs that go
back 35,000 years, and they are the chemical basis for much of what we
have today. The use of wine, beer and marijuana can be traced back at
least 8000 years, and are today being understood as good for you in
moderate amounts. It is the belief, not what is believed, that has
power.

However, none of this alters the fact that, with the exception of a

You've made some very good observations and comments here. Things
were very
different before WWII. Government wasn't involved in every aspect of
our
lives. People lived together as real neighbors that cared for each

They depended on each other, not the Mommy-Daddy government we have
today.
The government didn't regulate everything and give tax advantages to

 Fact
is nearly everything they bought was made in America. Neighborhoods
stayed
together, people lived in the same house most of their life rather
than being
moved all over the country by the Corporation for which they work.
Then the
Republicans got in office and used their influence to give even more
power to
corporate interests in the name of Americanism and proceeded to set
the stage
for moving businesses from a local level to a national level resulting
in
mega-business and an end to the neighborhood economy (and the

helped pass these measures). All this time both parties passed tens

So each of the ladies sued for $15,000,000 according to web - yet the
officer if it was a police officer, has not even been to trial?

One item indicated law suit to be filed or was filed..was the guy
driving a cruiser, did they get the cruiser number - years ago we had a
man who drove around with a flashing lite on the top of his car who
would pull over women late at night - he eventually got caught but he
was not a polliceman.

So if I wanted to be rich - I would call let us say a crooked cop and
say hey, do this - I sue, and we split the money..

Could any cop be this stupid - knowing he would be identified? And
drunk driving - how drunk were these ladies - not all the facts out yet.

So Jayson, imagine they will all be on TV and writing more books -
perhaps the officer will plead temporary insanity if it was him..but
the ladies better be of good character without a record or their
$15,000,000 might trickle down to just a few bucks out of court.

So Jayson, these days things are just not as they sometimes seem to be.

Would I strip for $15,000,000 - fifteen million dollars that is - yes,
but for $1,200 which would have been drunk driving cost - hell no. I
have some pride.

Whenever you see a cop talking at a payphone, you can be sure he isn't
talking to his moher or wifie...and cop meet some strange people at
times - no lady would strip for anybody to avoid a DUI..but to sue
for 15 million dollars, well maybe everything does have a price -
besides, the one "lady" kept on her underthings...

The one also looked like a floosie.

Re: [CTRL] Fwd: Wiccan Pseudohistory

2001-01-08 Thread Johannes Schmidt III

-Caveat Lector-

All your sophistry in these series of emails can be summed up very quickly:

I am clearly (to you at least) ignorant on these subjects because I haven't read the 2
books you have pointed out. You have neatly tried to discredit all my questions by
simply accusing me of being ignorant. You fail to answer my questions however, such as:

If modern Wicca is the direct incarnation of an old or ancient religion (as it's
adherent's claim), where is the evidence for this? Are there any primary written
sources to prove this? Your answer is no. Are there any historical artifacts which
prove this? Your answer is no. Is there any evidence of the existence of items so
beloved of modern Witches such as the Book of Shadows or the Athame knife, which all
witches are supposed to possess, being around before the 1950s? The answer is no.

Previous religions are irrelevant if they do not provide a clear link to the current
Wiccan religion. You may have forgotten but the original contention was that Wiccans
are trying to pass off their modern religion as an ancient religion with a long
tradition. These claims are bunk. The 'golden age' when women ruled the Earth and
matriachy was predominant is also, by the way, bunk. It is part of the mythology of
Wiccans, which I find every but as silly as Christians who at least can document where
their beliefs came from.

I will check out the books you have mentioned, however I am not expecting any great
scholarship. We can hypothesise about various religions and their possible link to
modern witchcraft (Animism, Druidism, Greek and Roman Gods, Traditional religions,
Pre-historic religions etc.). But it is all hypothesis. If there is some clear link
please spell it out. Don't ask me to go and get a degree in the subject, don't become
derogatory (which is a good sign that you have no argument) but enlighten us on the
pre-mid 1950s origins of Witchcraft.

Regards and watch out for those death squads,

Joe.

[CTRL] Placebos

The effectiveness of placebo cures is well documented, however you should remember
they work in only a small number of cases overall. By their very nature, if I were to
dance naked around your bed yelling and beating myself could have a placebo effect if
I told you it would drive out the evil spirits, but personally I would rather
something more reliable like anti-biotics, anti-psychotics, anti-depressants,
painkillers, blood thinning medication, asthma ventilators, and all the other miracles
which are found in the modern medical cabinet.

Pre 20th century medicine was primitive, but despite all the horrible things you would
expect a lot of people didn't die. In the US civil war, there were many thousands of
combatants who lost arms and legs but did not die of infections or shock. People who
got serious infections didn't always die, although you would expect them to. The body
itself has natural mechanisms for defeating many illnesses and injuries under ideal
conditions.

People like good news. If a faith healer 'heals' 100 people, or 1,000 people, and one
of them is miraculously cured, people are ecstatic. No matter if the person relapses
days or months later, or may not have been sick in the first place (except
psychologically).

SPACE COMMISSION SET TO REPORT TO CONGRESS

PAVING THE WAY FOR RUMSFELD AND STAR WARS

On January 11, the same day that the Senate Armed Services Committee begins
public hearings on the Rumsfeld nomination for Secretary of Defense, the
Commission to Assess U.S. National Security Space Management and
Organization is to release its findings after more
than a year of study. Established by members of Congress who
claim that preparations to protect U.S. "Space Assets" are inadequate, the
commission's report will likely pave the way for Star Wars.

The commission was led by Donald Rumsfeld, President-select George
W. Bush's nominee for Secretary of Defense, who has pledged to
make the missile "defense", and the space-based laser, a top priority.

Three former leaders of the U.S. Space Command are commission members and
there is no doubt that the timing of the "Commission's report", on the same
day that Rumsfeld's confirmation hearings begin, are intended to create the
momentum to sweep Rumsfeld into his new cabinet seat without a word of
controversy.

While the media and some in Congress question the appointments of Ashcroft,
Chavez, and Norton, the move toward Star Wars and the expenditure of over
$100 billion to get there is not open for public discussion. The creation
of a new arms race in space and the U.S. violation of the ABM and Outer
Space Treaties seems to be an insignificant issue to the corporate
controlled media.

The aerospace industry has the media in the bag. Now they are lining up
Congress to ease through the Rumsfeld nomination. Once done they figure not
a wimper will be heard from the American people. The new space "control and
domination" regime will be underway and massive corporate welfare for the
industry will be in place. Further cuts in social spending will have to
come next to pay for the enormous costs in Star Wars.

We urge all who are concerned to immediately contact your two U.S. Senators
to urge them to fight Star Wars. The real fight to stop Star Wars begins
with the issue of Senate approval of Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of
Defense.

Call your Senators as soon as possible via the Congressional Switchboard at:
(202) 224-3121. Please act now before it is too late!

Peace Be Upon You

It's been about a years since I last coresponded with you and was wondering
if you
are well and how you are doing. I have thought of you on several occasions.

Did you see the film Magnolia? There is one full screen shot of somebody's
hand who
is wearing a Masonic ring. I was wondering why the importance of that shot
is, and
why a ful screen for no mistakng it.

I was also thinking about our communications about the ominous troubles
regarding
the Dome of the rock for the year 2001, where so much trouble has now
emerged.
General Arial Sharon (in Greek legend Sharon is the ferrier that takes dead
souls
across the river Stix into the underworld [spiritual realm], walked around
the
monument and proclaimed that this belonged to him (Israel),. which is what so
enraged the Palestinians a couple months ago. The dome of the Rock is the
monument
that represents where the Prophet made his night journey from--Maraaj. It is
next
to the ruins of Solomon's second temple which the Jews now want to rebuild.
What do
you think about all this in regards to the CLUMSs nefarious work? Is Sharon
thought
to be the antiChrist? He might become the next President of Israel.

Best wishes,
Morpheus (long before the movie)

Wa 'aleykum as-Salaam, Morpheus. With the problems at m.a.m. it is hard to keep in touch.

It is interesting to see how many people ignore the importance of the Temple Mount even when world events seem to always revolve around it.

Sharon's visit there set off the most recent series of troubles. I don't think Sharon can be the Antichrist, although he is advancing the Beast's cause.

The CLuM scenario is proceeding. The twin Presidential evils have been followed by a twin leadership in the U.S. Senate: the 50-50 power-sharing agreement is another visible manifestation of the duality expressed in the Seal of Solomon, or Suleiman, the Lord of the Jinn.

Also, what's the cLuM dirt on Bush, if you don't mind?

 Thanks in advance.

You are welcome. George Walker Bush is exactly what I mean by a
clandestine Luciferian Mason (CLuM). He is not a member of a public

of Skull and Bones, a higher-level Masonic-type secret society.

Skull and Bones is the most prominent chapter of the Illuminati in

The other twin Presidential evil, Albert Arnold Gore, had been under
the
tutelage of Avraham ben Yahuda ha-Maccabee, a.k.a. Armand Hammer. Hammer's
father was one of the founders of the American Communist Party and had the
distinction of being imprisoned in both the U.S. (for a murderous abortion)
and
 Germany (for business shenanigans).

Comrade Armand Hammer owned Senator Albert Gore, Sr., and his
ownership
 was extended to Albert, Jr.

As I have written many times before, the George "Poppy" Bush

[CTRL] Germans infiltrate INLA

2001-01-08 Thread Johannes Schmidt III

-Caveat Lector-

This is the sort of important story I highlight daily at

http://leviathan.weblogs.com

http://www.independent.ie/2001/7/n01i.shtml

German spy exposed as key INLA mole
Ian Cobain in Berlin
AN EXTRAORDINARY operation mounted by German intelligence officers against a
republican terrorist group has been revealed.

A German agent risked his life to infiltrate the INLA and lure its then chief of
staff, Hugh Torney, to Germany to buy Semtex explosive to make bombs. The chance to
cut off the INLA's European arms pipeline and place its leader behind bars was,
however, squandered when German police set the terrorist free.

Torney went on to organise a series of bomb and gun attacks in Northern Ireland. Among
the victims was a girl of nine murdered in a drive-by shooting.

Posing as a leftwing extremist and republican sympathiser, the German agent had
watched as Torney and an accomplice, Sean Green, purchased the Semtex. Green went on
to take part in a letter bomb campaign whose victims included the unionist leaders
David Trimble and Jeffrey Donaldson.

Details of the secret operation are revealed in a series of confidential reports
prepared by the German domestic intelligence agency, the Bundesamt fur
Verfassungsschutz (BfV), the federal prosecutors office and Stuttgart police.

They show that the agent joined the INLA in the mid-1990s and eventually became a
trusted confidant of its leadership. He is thought to have made contact with leading
INLA figures while posing as a member of an extreme left-wing German organisation
called Revolutionary Cells.

Apparently working closely with Britain's MI5, he helped to set up the sting operation
in August 1994, when the IRA was about to announce a ceasefire but the INLA was widely
expected to continue its terror campaign.

-Caveat Lector-

Like that cabinet, 'eh? Welcome to the new frontier of colonialism for the 21st
century - the total domination and exploitation of the earth and everything(everyone!)
in it - the "NEW WORLD ORDER" that both Poppa Bush and Adolf Hitler called for(not to
mention Revelation...head injury, anyone?!?)!!!

Some of the men and women who do the thinking for GW Bush:

-Vice President, Dick Cheney, arguably the real President-elect,
was one of papa Bush's top advisors. His company, Haliburton, is
one of the nation's largest recipients of government contracts,
supplying military equipment, oil services and infrastructure.
Cheney epitomizes corporate-welfare and like most of Bush's
appointees is a multi-millionaire who will receive huge financial
benefits from the administrations' policies AND any wars it
manages to get the US into.

-Secretary of Labor Linda Chavez-who is outspokenly
anti-union-was a research fellow at the CIA's Manhattan Institute
during 1993 and 1994 and has received almost $200,000 in
grants from the John M. Olin Foundation, a notorious right-wing
fund derived from a family business in munitions and chemicals
with roots in white supremacy. Despite her Hispanic surname she
is an outspoken advocate for the English First Movement.
Chavez is president of the Center for Equal Opportunity, based
in Washington, D.C. an organization dedicated to eliminating
affirmative action. On their website Chavez quotes Charles
Murray, author of The Bell Curve, a classic of modern racial
eugenics which has become the "bible" for the anti-welfare
anti-affirmative action movement.

-Secretary of Health and Human Services, Wisconsin Gov.
Tommy G. Thompson, is known for his controversial welfare
reforms-based in large part on two books by Charles Murray,
Losing Ground and The Bell Curve. Murray was a consultant for
the Wisconsin welfare reform program. Turner became notorious for quoting the motto on
the gates over Auschwitz concentration camp- "Arbeit Macht Frei - work shall make
you free". He is frequently a guest with Charles Murray in panel
discussions at
the CIA's Manhattan Institute and other Poppa Bush-connected think
tanks. Murray wrote the Bell Curve while a fellow at the
Manhattan Institute where his pseudo-scientific research focused on the
genetic inferiority of African. Since 1937 the Pioneer Fund has promoted eugenics and
the ideology of white racial superiority.

-Secretary of Energy, Spencer Abraham, who served as Vice
President Dan Quale's chief of staff, spent years trying to abolish
the very agency he will now head. His legislative positions
include being against higher fuel efficiency standards for cars,
being against government regulations for industry and support
for opening up national parklands to oil drilling. He is a recipient
of oil company contributions totaling more than $221,000
according to the NY Times. The American Petroleum Institute
has said it looks forward to working with Abraham. The society is funded by the John
M. Olin Foundation, the Sarah Scaife Foundation, the
Bradley Foundation, and the Lilly Endowment-America's leading
far right think tanks. Among its most prominent members are
Supreme Court Justices Scalia and Thomas whose questionable
election ruling gave Bush his illegitimate Presidency.
Spokespersons for the Federalist Society include Bell Curve
author Charles Murray, Manhattan Institute fellow Abigail
Thernstrom, and Dinesh de Souza of the American Enterprise

-Secretary of Education, Rod Paige, the latest African American
Bush appointee, is a conservative public schools administrator in
Texas and decades-long crony of the Bush family who supports
vouchers, tying teacher pay directly to test scores and school
privatization - all of which will negatively impact African
American students by destroying public education.=20

-Secretary of Defense, Donald H. Rumsfeld was Secretary of
Defense under President Ford. Rumsfeld like Powell, Cheney,
Rice and numerous other Bush administration officials is a
salesman for the Star Wars Missile Defense Shield. Rumsfeld, who formerly headed
Searle Pharmaceuticals, is part of the drug company axis within the Bush
administration. Former President Bush was director of Eli Lilly, OMB head Mitchell E.
Daniels was also senior executive
of Eli Lilly and AG John Ashcroft is known as a lobbyist for

numerous John M. Olin grant recipients attached to Bush-is the
principal author of GW's Medicare plan. Wilensky serves on the
boards of eight health care companies in which she owns more
than $12 million in stock.=20

-Secretary of State, Colin Powell is a lifelong operative of the

NEW COUNT SHOWS BUSH MAY HAVE WON POPULAR VOTE Edited by D.

Despite the widely accepted claim that Al Gore won the
popular vote by some 300,000 votes, a new count of state totals appears
to show George Bush was the real winner by nearly 2 million votes.
According to respected news analyst Mary Mostert, a report sent to her
by reader Don Boyd showed that Gore got a total of 50,753,172 votes
nationwide while Bush got 52,685,804 giving him a winning margin of
1,932,632. Wrote Mostert "While I have not checked all 50 states with
the Secretary of State official returns, I have checked all the big
states and a number of the smaller states. All the ones I have checked
are accurate, or modified very slightly with late absentee ballots,
which tilted towards George W. Bush. For those who want to personally
check these figures, go to the "Original Source" -

and they will take it at every opportunity. What Israel is and has done is
perfectly normal. If they wish to survive they must do exactly what they are
doing. The Palestinians, however, have a right to fight even though they
 will lose.

 Prudy

We are not in disagreement. Now. We could try to minimize the damage that will
overwhelm both peoples. Especially the Palestinians. Isn't that worth a try?
It means taking a hard look at the situation and dealing with it realistically.

We are beyond peace. There was never a chance for peace. The phony peace plans
were really economic plans for the region. They were selfish, shortsighted and
stupid, on the parts of all the elites involved on all sides. Today instead of
microscopic local conflicts, the Middle East is facing a regional war with the
possibility of standardizing nuclear war.

The best we can do now is minimize the death toll.

Welcome to another fuck up brought to you by the New World Order.

Big Brother knocked in 2000

http://news.cnet.com:80/news/0-1007-200-4302729.html

For privacy experts, 2000 looked more like 1984.

By Stefanie Olsen
Staff Writer, CNET News.com
December 28, 2000

Workplace surveillance was the leading privacy concern in 2000, according
to an analysis released Thursday by the Privacy Foundation, a Denver-based
nonprofit that performs research and educates the public on privacy issues.

This year, millions of Americans were watched at work, as employers became
increasingly concerned about employee productivity and their use of the
Internet. Two-thirds of major U.S. companies now perform some type of
in-house electronic surveillance, according to the American Management
Association, and 27 percent of all companies surveyed now monitor email.

The Big Brother tactic has led to some people losing their jobs. Dow
Chemical fired 24 employees and disciplined 235 others in September for
allegedly storing and sending sexual or violent images on the company's
computers. Xerox, The New York Times Co. and the CIA were others that fired
or disciplined employees because of alleged bad behavior.

"Employers may be rightly concerned about security and productivity issues,
or legal liability arising from emailed sexual banter," Stephen Keating,
executive director of the Privacy Foundation, said in a statement.
"But pervasive or spot-check surveillance conducted through keystroke
monitoring software, reviewing voice-mail messages, and using mini-video
cameras will undoubtedly affect morale and labor law, as well as employee
recruitment and retention practices," he added.
In the future, the foundation predicts that employers, especially so-called
New Economy companies, may offer "spy free" workplaces as a fringe benefit.

Information falling into the wrong hands

Keeping medical records private was the second most important privacy
concern in 2000, according
to the report. Fears that personal medical data, disclosed to medical
practitioners, could reach the
wrong hands propelled new federal rules in December. The new policy, which
could be delayed in Congress in the coming year, will require doctors to
get patient consent to use medical records in
routine matters, as well as give patients more access to their own records.

Privacy issues surrounding Carnivore, the online surveillance technology
developed by the FBI for
investigations, fell into the survey's top three. Civil libertarians fear
that the FBI could use Carnivore to watch people through entry points to
the Web or randomly read email communications. Privacy advocates criticized
the FBI for releasing too little information about the surveillance
technology in October.

Online advertising network DoubleClick also received top billing this year
for its widely noted but unrealized plans to merge anonymous online
customer data with personally identifiable offline data from subsidiary
Abacus Direct.
After public outcry and a federal investigation, DoubleClick postponed its
plans. But the issue highlighted the online profiling practices of online
ad networks and marketers, causing a number of legal cases to be filed
against online companies.

Because of such heightened privacy concerns in 2000, companies including
Microsoft, IBM and American Express hired for a new position: chief privacy
officer. In the future, the foundation predicts that universities will
offer degree programs in privacy and business.

These were some other top privacy concerns in 2000:

• Online customer data became a hot commodity, prompting online
retailers to change their privacy policies and inciting privacy advocates
and legislators to tighten their watch over them.

For example, federal regulators blocked Toysmart.com from selling customer
data after the company went out of business. And Amazon.com came under fire
after changing its privacy policy to allow for transferring customer data
in certain instances.

• Privacy fears cropped up regarding new legislation that allows
financial institutions to combine customer information housed under
different divisions and potentially share it with third parties, as long as
they notify customers and provide them the option to opt out.

Advocates are concerned that the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act doesn't go far
enough to protect consumers with the transfer of online information. In
2001, many more consumers may complain about the mishandling of their
personal data by financial institutions.

• Wireless tracking technologies raised privacy hackles.
Location-sensing technology for cell phones, under a new federal program
called E911, and new ad-delivery plans fueled questions about privacy and
receiving unsolicited email, or spam, via handheld devices.

The Privacy Foundation predicts that tech companies and federal regulators
will keep spam at bay by setting industry standards on consumer choice to
receive text messages.

• Microsoft issued a software patch for Internet Explorer that lets Web

The Empire Has No Clothes

The Globe Mail, December 15, 2000

America has been the world's democratic role model until this election
stripped our illusions and revealed the naked lust for power that
passes for politics

by Todd Gitlin

Canadians may reasonably wonder whether Americans have gone smash out of
their minds. In recent weeks the same question has been frequently posed by
chad-addled Americans themselves, as they struggled to invoke the sense of
downright weirdness that poured over the land. Some high- (or low-) lights:
The selfsame scion of a blueblood political family who insisted that he
"trusted the people" and not "Washington" delegated as his power-
brokers his father's former secretary of defence, his father's former
secretary of state and campaign manager, and, as his future chief of
staff, Washington's top auto-company lobbyist and servant of the globe-
is-not-warming brigade.
A tribune of "progressivism" declared that a government headed by
two men from big oil companies who are unconvinced the globe is
warming would be no different than a government headed by a
man who had tried, and failed, as Vice-President to impose an energy tax
against the unremitting opposition of oil companies and their hired
representatives in the Republican Congress.
Misled and bewildered, unable to get the on-site help guaranteed
under the law, Palm Beach County Jews cast thousands of ballots for the
most anti-Semitic presidential candidate of the century.
To cap it all, fervent defenders of states' rights appealed not once, but
twice, to the U.S. Supreme Court in far-off Washington, where
steadfast self-proclaimed proponents of judicial restraint shut down
Florida's hand vote-count, a count that had been ordered by
Florida's own Supreme Court, claiming that this legal exercise in
democratic procedure was perpetrating "irreparable harm."
Conservatives lauded the Rehnquist Five for daring to stand up for equal
protection of the law to shut down a partial recount when it was the Bush
camp that had steadfastly resisted a full state-wide version. "Rarely,"
wrote Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, dissenting (and conspicuously not taking
the traditional trouble to do so "respectfully"), "has this Court rejected
outright an interpretation of state law by a state high court."
This rarity was the measure of what was at stake. Power was at stake. It
was, it always was, as simple as that.
The comedy is not that the country took so long to produce a
president-elect, but that the establishment's post facto rituals of
reassurance will, for a time, persuade some Americans, while to others
these rituals are laughably transparent.
What matters is a tragedy: The Supreme Court judged George W. Bush's risk
of "irreparable harm" more significant than voters' risk of not getting
their ballots counted. Five justices declared that time had run out for
democratic procedure, after the Bush team did everything they could to run
out the clock, appealing to the federal courts, stopping the vote every
time they could, blasting Mr. Gore for availing himself of legal rights to
protest and contest the results, whereupon the justices were shocked,
shocked to discover that there was no time to count all the votes.
"The majority effectively orders the disenfranchisement of an unknown
number of voters . . .," wrote Justice Ginsburg. There is the nub of the
matter: disenfranchisement. This is the real drama: The rest is smoke and
mirrors.
One achievement of the recent passion play is the revelation (not nearly
well enough reported) of evidence of violations of law and democratic
practice on a tremendous scale in Florida and elsewhere before, on, and
after election day. Before election day, many Florida voters' names were
purged"cleansed" is the nice word used by the Republican-run company hired
by the State of Florida, with Katherine Harris, Bush delegate, presiding
over frequently false claims that they were felons and thus ineligible to vote.
On election day, many eligible Florida voters found their names missing
from the registration rolls. African-American precincts were saddled with
obsolete voting and list-checking machines, while white districts had
state-of-the-art laptops to smooth their way. This was segregation by
technology. Some were stopped on the way to the polls on pretexts all too
familiar from the long history of racial oppression in the South. Haitian
Americans, promised Creole translators, did not get them. Later, in Miami,
a vote count in progress was shut down by a "bourgeois riot" the term of
choice in the Wall Street Journal, including prominently Republican
officials who jetted down from the North. Now the bourgeois rioters take
power behind a screen of bipartisanship.
Repeatedly during the endless campaign we were told that fat and happy
Americans were indifferent to these candidates whom prosperity drove
helplessly toward the centre, so that rival brands Gore and Bush were
forced to differentiate

[CTRL] Fwd: A Turning Point In American History

  January 2, 2001

A Turning Point In American History

  By Connie White [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Election 2000 is one of those turning points in American
history: it reminded some, and exposed to others, that this
is not a country "of the people, by the people, and for the
people," and it reminded some and exposed to others that the
American judicial system is now, and has always been,
  partisan and is not impartial.

Electoral democracy is based on citizenship, and citizenship
means that the individual has certain rights and duties. What
has been presumed to be among an American citizens' rights
is the right to vote and that each vote counts. Tossing out
ballots is a fundamental violation of the rights of voting
citizens. During the debates before the U.S. Supreme Court
regarding "uncounted" votes in Florida, USA, one of the
leading justices of the Supreme Court, Antonin Scalia,
stated that there is nothing in the U.S. Constitution
that guarantees U.S. citizens the right to vote. So much for
members of the "highest court in the land" believing in the
"democratic right to vote." When the Supreme Court upheld
the decision to stop the vote counting in Florida, America
was exposed as not being a "democracy" -- representative
  or otherwise.

The Republican pundits are justifying the Supreme Court
decision (intervention) by pointing out that America is not
a "democracy," but a "republic." (The two political systems
are not mutually exclusive. A "republic" is a political
system whereby the "people" elect representatives to govern
for them -- inherent in this definition is the understanding
that there is no "king" -- and a "democracy" is a political
system based in majority decision-making. You could have a
democratic republic, which is a political system that has
democratic decision-making, and no king.) The American
government more closely resembles a "timocracy" -- a
government of the propertied class. The point regarding
America being a "republic" was also made during the Monica
Lewinsky hearings, when the overwhelming majority of the
American people denounced the Republican party witch
hunts, and the poles indicated that Clinton should remain
president. Here is where the "constitutional republic" game
comes in -- the Republicans argue that they are doing their
"constitutional duty," and indicate that America is a
"constitutional republic," and not a "democracy." Although
poles -- or popular vote at election time -- may indicate
the will of the people, the Republican Party's position
during the Lewinsky hearings was "to hell with the will of
the people," we have the power and the constitutional right
and we intend to use it. Similarly, during Election 2000,
the Republican Party said "to hell with the will of the
people" (the popular vote), and "constitutionally" relied
upon its Supreme Court partisans to render a judicial
decision that secured the presidential election for
  George Bush.

So much for American "democracy," and majority decision-
  making.

Election 2000 has exposed that America is not the
representative democratic nation of the world. It has been
exposed as a fake and a fraud, where power relations are the
motivating force in the legislative, executive and judiciary
"branches," and class interests are the glue that solidify
the Republican and Democratic parties into one. Hence, all
  the talk about "bi-partisanship" today.

But, has the American working class seen enough in Election
2000 to understand that this is not "our" government -- that
this is not a "democracy" whereby the "people" elect the
  representatives who will govern?

Let's not be quick to forget all that was exposed in
  Election 2000.

During Election 2000, the American electorate continued to
protest the choices offered in "the race for the presidency."
Approximately 52% of the American electorate did not vote
for president or voted for a third party candidate.
Additionally, and most importantly, -- 2.5 million American
voters were considered the "under vote," which are those
ballots on which the voter did not indicate a presidential
choice. These "under vote" ballots represent those voters
whom I believe chose "none of the above" for president, but
took the time to vote for initiatives they wanted passed,
and for local or national legislative candidates. Where in
America's Constitution does it state that voters not voting
for president would have their ballots "kicked out"? The
American electorate should have known about this practice
before going to the polls. This protesting American
electorate clearly showed that their interests are
not being represented in the choices presented at
  election time.

Some have presented the initiative/proposition process as a
beginning for direct democracy in this country: the "masses"
  of people would

[CTRL] Biometric Identification Schemes

2001-01-08 Thread Damaeus

-Caveat Lector-

If there was ever a full-scale opportunity to database who we are, this has
to be it:

JotterSAF eases your security and privacy concerns through
biometric solutions. Use the unique characteristics of your
voice, fingerprints, iris, or face to authenticate you.

http://www.jottersaf.com/2001.html

Imagine -- you use voiceprint identification and with one of those audio
spectrographs of your voiceprint is on record. Then when you ask for a
cherry ICEE at the corner 7-Eleven, if some black government op has some
need to know, he can pull up your entire history without even getting an ID
number or fingerprint from you. You didn't use a credit card, didn't show a
driver's license, didn't write a check. All you did was ask for an ICEE.
It's on record.

But yes, it would make life easier. I would love to chunk all my passwords
and simply use my fingerprint or iris scan or voiceprint to prove I am who I
say I am. Of course, with voice print ID, if our voiceprints are kept on
file someplace, then it only gives dark hackers a new way to rip us off.
Break into a database, download a voiceprint and use that voiceprint to
withdraw a few hundred dollars from an ATM.

I guess for every new technology there is a new can of worms. I know they
say it's bad to give up freedom for more security. I guess in this case
we're giving up security to get more freedom -- freedom from password lists,
etc...

I wonder if this is one step toward everybody implanted with a microchip.
For example, let's say we do have a problem with people "stealing" your
identity with voiceprint and probably even fingerprints before long. Or
we'll have rashes of crimes where people end up with their thumbs chopped
off so the robber can run around and steal money left and right until the
thumb rots and is no longer usable. What is the solution but to give people
a choice of going back to passwords (less secure) or get a unique chip
implanted for the ulimate security. perhaps the chip would be so small that
even if somebody wanted to cut it out of you, it would be nearly impossible
to find in the mass of tissue and blood, especially if one can pick where
they want it implanted.

People seem to have a hard time reverting back to the old days, so probably
most people will go with the implant, I imagine.
