Like any good MC dude WOULD, right?!?!?

What if he has been led to believe this is because he will

I guess anything is possible?

Agreed.

Then, of course, the

Might add here how did a few "kids" one of whom was son of FBI
investigator who was sent to Littleton, compose a story and tape of
Columbine before the act? Even the name Columbine seems to be maybe
code name - Klebold was from Columbus, Ohio grandson of Leo Yassenoff -
tax foundation front stuff.

When Jonestown went down - in 1979 I was given information by MI6 who
worked for National Enquirer and Globe about the "implants" behind the
of many Jonestown citizens? Who alone escaped to tell the truth but
Mark Lane who escaped by running through the jungle..As it is Moby
Dick starts "Call Me Ishmael" and he alone escaped to tell the truth and
write the book...first like of Arthur Bremer's diary, was "call me
Ishmael"and then of course before Columbine we had the movie
Heathers - all in good script form - and what book was the little girl
reading played by Wynona Judd - why Moby Dick, and his Call Me Ishmael
while the "jocks" and the "heathers" were murdered - gunshots in a
cafeteria - the the plan to blow up the school - which too failed in the
movie .

Kids have made cults about some of this garbage a lot of which is still
on the web and a lot removed -

This book if this be true was written about Oklahoma in advance, I have
a book involving Lane in Oklahoma by connection - always this Lane
connection or like Larry Flynt they feel need to adorn themselves with a
bit of respectibility by attaching to murder of JFK?

Let us say all the usual suspects are in place.drugs now seem to be
of the controlled substance variety rather than the kid in the street
peddling marijuana/.

And my oh my what great money this "Columbian Gold" is professed to be
especally when adorned maybe with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and now
even semi precious stones make a grand entrancne.

All that glitters is not goldl (columbian variety) and look at this -
FBI SPY Hannson paid in diamonds keeping in mind Mossad and KGB
are brothers.

So remember the USS Liberty and what was that ship that Luckey Luciana
had sunk - which was laying on its side in a Jersey Harbor - for Luciano
wanted out - it sure woke up the Navy Department which is being
sabotaged for the enemy was withinremember the Walker Spies with KGB
formed a KKK from which they would operate and spread neo nazi
literature?
Little red arrows leading to stashed neo nazi literature? This stuff
is so mundane it is almost comical - does McVeigh still think he was
working for Special Operations or CIA on top secret mission?

This bunch in our area had many people believing they had intelligence
connections when it was only to Meyer Lansky? But they still smuggled
guns and drugs and murdered while newspapers handled the matter with a
tongue in cheek story about bad boy doctors?

Today drugs are old hat - for it is looting Sudan and Africa and other
countries of natural resources - see Marc Rich, History of and Clinton,
History of - and keep in mind Americans wear more gold on their fingers,
and rings through their nose, embedded with diamonds and from where?
Who knows?

Ask Hanssen the FBI Agent who was paid in diamondsfor this is
what he asked? Really? Then wonder why years ago the Pentagon got
caught with billions of dollars in diamons and said "well; it was a
good investment, wasn't it"...

[CTRL] Suppressing Dissent in Science with GM Foods

2001-03-21 Thread Prudence L. Kuhn

Suppressing Dissent in Science With GM Foods

15 March 2001

The Institute of Science in Society Londonia House, 24 Old Gloucester
Street London, WC1N 3A1 UK Tel: 44 -020-7242 9831
Lancet Volume 357, Number 9257 03 March 2001

Science is in crisis. The full extent of the crisis surfaced when trade
union leaders warned that the integrity of British science is being
threatened by "a dash for commercial cash" in a report published in the
Times Higher Education Supplement (Sept 8, 2000), the main newsprint for
University academics. The Institute for Professional and Managers in
Specialists carried out a survey of scientists working in government or
in recently privatized laboratories earlier this year.

One-third of the respondents had been asked to change their research
findings to suit the customer's preferred outcome , while 10% had
pressure put on them to bend their results to help secure contracts.

In Britain's handful of top research universities, dependence on private
funding is acute, often amounting to 80-90% of the total research
budget. The four unions representing scientists and technical staff have
launched a charter, which says that research must be guaranteed "by peer
review, open publication and by autonomy over a significant proportion
of its resources". Commercialization smashes all three tenets.

The only way to be sure that science retains its integrity is to
enshrine open and clear-cut whistle blowing , the unions claim.

Science has seldom lived up to its ideal as an open, disinterested
inquiry into nature, as any scientist who has ever tried to publish
genuinely new ideas or findings in the 'peer-reviewed' scientific
journals will know too well. Nobel Laureate Hans Krebs' discovery of the
metabolic cycle that would eventually bear his name was rejected from
the journal Nature.

Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, another Nobel prize-winning biochemist, never got
funded for work on the relevance of quantum physics to living organisms,
which is crucial for understanding living organisms and why cell phones
may be harmful, for example.

In the course of liberating itself from the Church, the scientific
establishment has inherited many of the trappings of fundamentalist
religion. There can be but One True Science, and everything else tends
to be treated as nonsense or heresy.

Within the past 50 years, the suppression of dissent has plumbed new
depths , as the scientific establishment is increasingly getting into
bed with big business. At first, it was mostly physics and chemistry,
now it is preeminently biology. And as corporations are growing bigger
and more powerful, so the suppression of scientific dissent is becoming
more sophisticated, insidious and extensive.

As the scientific and the political mainstream have both come to
identify with corporate aims, so their established power structures are
brought to bear on squashing scientific dissent and engineering
consensus. Witness the seamless way in which the corporations, the state
and the scientific establishment are coordinating their efforts to force
feed the world with GM crops , known to be unsafe and unsustainable, and
to offer no proven benefits whatsoever either to farmers or consumers
[1].

Fall-outs from the GM Debate The GM debate had been going on in the UK
and the rest of Europe for at least several years before the press went
to town on Dr. Arpad Pusztai's revelation that the GM potatoes tested in
his laboratory might not be safe [2]. As a result, Pusztai lost his job
and was gagged. Pro-biotech scientists and Fellows of the UK Royal
Society vented their collective ire and condemnation and Pusztai's
integrity as a scientist was called into question.

The Royal Society simultaneously set up its own hasty review of
Pusztai's experimental results [3], without giving Pusztai the
opportunity to assemble the complete set of data, published a report
declaring Pusztai's findings flawed, and warned that no conclusions
should be drawn. The report also reiterated the importance of
peer-review before the results are released to the public. The Editor of
The Lancet referred to the Royal Society's review as "a gesture of
breathtaking impertinence to the Rowett Institute scientists"[4].

Double Standards In The Science Establishment

However, the Royal Society has never reviewed nor condemned the truly
damnable unpublished and published findings on GM crops and products
offered by the industry, and accepted as evidence of safety by our
regulatory authorities. Nor has it condemned the suppression of
scientific evidence by the industry. There are clearly double standards
being applied. Not only that, outright propaganda is legitimate, so long
as it is pro-biotech, and publicly-funded scientific research
institutions are openly engaging in this exercise.

Recount shows Gore had won

Special report: the US elections

Martin Kettle in Washington
Monday March 12, 2001

The Guardian

Fresh evidence has emerged in Florida that Al Gore might have won last
year's presidential election under a less contentious voting system, and
if the US supreme court had not stepped in to stop the recount.

A comprehensive new survey of "undervotes" in Palm Beach county shows
that Mr Gore would have gained 784 more votes than George Bush if every
excluded paper bearing some kind of mark next to a candidate's name had
been counted.

The butterfly ballot, which has candidates' names on opposing pages with
a row of punch holes in the middle, confused thousands of voters in the
Democratic stronghold, which was one of the areas at the centre of the
post-election recount battle.

Those Palm Beach votes would have been enough on their own for Mr Gore
to overtake Mr Bush, who was declared the winner in Florida by a statewide
margin of 537 votes.

The Palm Beach recount figures came too late to be included in the
official tally of votes certified by the Florida secretary of state
Katherine Harris 19 days after the November 7 election.

The new survey, conducted by the Palm Beach Post, looked at all the
9,150 disputed undervotes of all kinds, including 5,736 which contained marks
next to the names of Mr Bush and Mr Gore and which Judge Burton ordered
should not be counted.

The researchers found that these dimpled chads held the key to Mr Gore's
chances.

Most polled say bush NOT in charge of own administration

A CBS News/New York Times poll released today showed bush is burdened by
a prevalent perception that he's not the one who's really in command of
the "ship of state". FIFTY percent say bush is NOT really in charge of
what goes on in his own administration, the Times reported.

Gee -- at least I'm not the ONLY one who thinks that: not by a LONG
shot, in fact. That's certainly reassuring.

It was also noted that deep and lingering resentments remain among black
Americans about bush's appointment to the presidency: three-quarters
don't accept him as the legitimate president, according to poll results.

Me either.

Another looming concern for Dub: 54 percent of Americans say that things
in this country are going in the wrong direction, compared with 40
percent who say things are going in the right direction, the Times
reported. Nearly three times as many now see the economy as getting
worse than just one year ago.

A worsening economy could turn into serious problem for bush and the
BushMob. A separate polling revealed only THIRTY-FOUR percent say they
have much confidence in bush's ability to keep the our economy strong;
36 percent have some confidence and 28 percent have little or none.
VERY, very poor numbers by ANYONE's reckoning.

On other fronts, most Americans aren’t especially enthusiastic about
bush's plan to cut taxes. Interestingly, MOST polled see through all the
smoke and mirrors, saying the plan favors the rich and does little, if
ANYTHING, to help average, middle-class people or stimulate the economy.

There is also VERY little support for some OTHER BushMob high priorities
like drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge for MERE DAYS worth of oil,
and withholding money from public schools that perform poorly, the poll
shows. On a few issues including missile defense, school vouchers and
federal grants to religious organizations, many respondents were
initially supportive of bush's proposals but changed their minds after
learning more about them. Smart thinking there, that's for SURE.

Bush Refuses To Help West With Power Woes

California Faces Dire Summer Power Shortfall

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - At a hearing before the Senate Energy Committee
Thursday, U.S. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham forcefully reiterated
the Bush administration's opposition to price controls in Western
regions. On a day Californians again faced threats of power shortages,
Abraham said blackouts were "inevitable" this summer in the nation's
most populous state.

California and Northwest lawmakers on the energy panel blasted the
administration's reluctance to get behind price caps, saying a temporary
cap would ease the pain for utilities, businesses and consumers paying
hundreds of dollars more per megawatt-hour of electricity than they
usually do.

Apparently unmoved by urgent calls for such action from western
lawmakers, Abraham said at the hearing: "The problem will get worse, and
blackouts this summer appear inevitable when peak demand is expected to
be 61,125 megawatts while supplies are anticipated to be only 56,159
megawatts."

Testifying before the panel, Washington state Gov. Gary Locke

In reality we already have agro-terror. The slaughter of millions of animals

WESLEY'S
  WAR
America's ex-warlord wants round 2 in Balkans
Breathtaking
in its scope, monumental in its sheer brazenness, the hypocrisy of Wesley K.
Clark – former supreme commander of American occupation forces in Europe
during the Kosovo war – is an awesome sight to behold. This perfumed prince
of the military elite, having retired along with Bill Clinton, his patron and
promoter, is now limited to bombarding his intended victims with words, instead
of missiles: in the long run, however, the effect is no less deadly. His latest
  screed, "Don't
Delay in Macedonia" [Washington Post, 20 March 2001], is a veritable
blueprint for war. This is hardly surprising behavior for this devout priest
  of Ares,
but what astonishes is the sheer gall of the man. As one of the chief architects
of our military and diplomatic strategy in the Balkans, is commander Clark now
proffering his advice to "solve" a problem he personally did much to create?
  Incredibly, the answer is yes.

CREATE A PROBLEM
  – THEN "SOLVE" IT
Clark is shocked
  – shocked! – that the Kosovo "Liberation" Army he unleashed
on the Balkans is now taking full advantage of the arms, training, and logistical
support provided by NATO. As Macedonia explodes, the General recommends "a prompt
Western response in order to maintain the integrity of a multi-ethnic Macedonia."
Having created the problem to begin with, "NATO is the only institution that
can act effectively to move the situation from confrontation to dialogue." But
why must the government of Macedonia engage in a "dialogue" with the leaders of an
open insurrection who have
pledged to fight to the death? In setting the stage for the policy proposals
at the end of his piece, Clark describes the circumstances that led to US
intervention
  in Kosovo:
"Two years
ago today, talks to prevent a war in Kosovo collapsed. The government of Slobodan
Milosevic then used massed troops to begin a rampage of ethnic cleansing and
murder. NATO initiated its bombing campaign on the principle that security in
Europe rests on peace and the rule of law across the Balkans."
LIE, LIES, AND
  MORE LIES
In reading the
above, what is striking is that here is a writer whose every word is
a lie, including "the," "to," and "a." What about the Albanian rampage of ethnic
cleansing and murder that has taken place in "liberated" Kosovo under the
not-so-watchful
eye of KFOR? The General has long been a fan of that "army" of drug-dealing
cutthroats and pimps presided over by Hacim Thaci and his handlers, stubbornly
averring in the face of the facts that there was "no evidence" that the KLA
was bent on ethnically cleansing postwar Kosovo of all Serbs. Now that the KLA's
goal has been accomplished – with his invaluable assistance – this
is not supposed to enter the discussion. Clark's lies are not only crude, but
worst of all are uttered in the peculiarly inverted language of the War Party,
where a demand that Yugoslavia surrender its sovereignty is described as "talks
to prevent a war." As revealed after the war, the Rambouillet "talks" were merely
the occasion for the NATO-crats to present
the Yugoslavs with an ultimatum: surrender or be crushed. The Serbs stood
up on their hind legs and fought Clark to a standstill – but now the General
wants to go a second round – this time taking on the Macedonians.
A CLARION CALL
That's what Clark's
clarion call is all about. Under his plan, while NATO is supposed to pledge
to interdict arms shipments feeding the Albanian invasion, the General sternly
reminds the Macedonians that they won't be getting off scott free, either. In
return for not having their country immediately destroyed by Western-trained
and subsidized "rebels," who have poured over Kosovo's border with Macedonia
with impunity, his Perfumed Princeliness wants "to make it clear to the government
of Macedonia that it too is under close scrutiny." If the Macedonians make any
attempt to defend their sovereignty against the relentless assault of a human
wave of Albanians, they must be pointedly reminded that "the use of force alone
will only worsen the underlying problem, not resolve it." In other words: if
you make the same mistake the Serbs made, and fight back, we'll unleash our trained
dogs – and they'll tear you to pieces.
NO PLACE LIKE
  HOME
What is needed,
says Clark, is a "longer term solution for the Macedonians," that doesn't just
consist of saying "the right things about the Albanian minority," but of caving
in to their central demand: "Discussion of the constitutional status of Macedonian
Albanians and other minorities should begin without delay in Macedonia's parliament,"
orders the General. Not only that, but the Macedonian census – long a point
  of

[CTRL] Fwd: An Ad Provokes Campus Protests and Tests Limits on Expression

2001-03-21 Thread Aleisha Saba

Lovely story; however I believe in reparations on condition that those
receiving same be given a one way ticket back to South Africa to see
where they would have been today as compared to their days of being sold
by their own to slave ships (most were jewish slave ships for that is
Old Testament stuff - people having to work for a living).so they
would find they will have come into a complete circle.

Reparations - what about reparations to our sons and fathers and
daughters who died in these wars for "Old Glory" when all the time it
was for what again - Freedom? Freedom of Speech, the right to freely
express your vieiws and while we are at it, tell me - is there anywhere
in this country in a school that has the guts to have WHITE HISTORY
MONTH?

No - these sodomists who were taking control would have more time spent
learning sodomy for elementary school than the story of Washington
cutting down the cherry treet and admitting same without lying.such
virtues and morals are "tabou" today along with a simple prayer if a
child so wants to recite same?

Well - be sure to get re=run of Heathers I for Heathers II is coming up
- and now on to more school bombings, kids turning queer, and
reparations for these poor injured souls for I believe reparations with
one way ticket would sol 99 percent of the problems in this once great
Christian Nation?

An Ad Provokes Campus Protests and Tests Limits on Expression
By DIANA JEAN SCHEMO

Brown University's campus newspaper is facing criticism and protests
for the decision by its editors to run an advertisement that denounced
calls for reparations for slavery.
• Join a Discussion on Race Relations
ROVIDENCE, R.I., March 19 — The editor of the student newspaper at
Brown University says he knew a tempest was headed his way and rose to
open the door for it.
A few weeks ago, the editor, Brooks King, read about a campaign by David
Horowitz, a conservative author in Los Angeles, to place an
advertisement in college newspapers denouncing calls for reparations to
black Americans for slavery. In the full-page advertisement, Mr.
Horowitz argues that blacks do not deserve redress because white
Christians ended slavery, and that rather than getting compensation,
black Americans owe the country for the freedom and prosperity they now
enjoy.
Mr. King says he concluded that the advertisement intended to offend
sensibilities at liberal campuses, exposing what Mr. Horowitz and other
conservatives describe as the intolerance of political correctness. And
he decided that because this was part of an important national debate,
he would take up the challenge.
"But I didn't expect this," Mr. King, a lanky, bespectacled junior,
said.
Last week, student protesters removed stacks of The Brown Daily Herald
from its stands on campus.
In running the advertisement, Mr. King became only the latest college
editor in recent weeks to find himself entangled in a racially tinged
controversy prompted by Mr. Horowitz. At the University of California,
The Daily Californian ran the advertisement, but, under pressure from
protesters, issued a front-page apology regretting having become "an
inadvertent vehicle for bigotry."
At the University of Wisconsin, Julie Bosman was confronted by 100
students demanding her resignation after the paper she edits, The Badger
Herald, ran the advertisement.
In a telephone interview, Mr. Horowitz said university campuses suffered
from a prevailing liberal orthodoxy that treated conservative views, and
those who expound them, like toxic waste: fit for burying or burning,
but not for engaging in dialogue.
"Colleges should be stimulating discussions of these issues, not
encouraging political rallies on behalf of one side of the issues," he
said, and called the protesting students "campus fascists."
Mr. Horowitz said he noticed that campuses were holding conferences on
reparations throughout Black History Month, but none were debating the
question so much as presuming reparations were a good idea.
Leon Botstein, president of Bard College in New York, said that Mr.
Horowitz was clearly on a campaign of provocation but that colleges were
easy prey. Contrary to their image as arenas of intellectual debate, Mr.
Botstein said, colleges tolerate dissent poorly.

Unlike the SETI@home system (which only uses our processing computer power

claimed that clickworkers would be looking directly at source data.

[CTRL] FC: Conservatives rally on Capitol Hill to defend filtering (fwd)

   Library Smut Snit Heats Up
   by Declan McCullagh ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
   2:00 a.m. Mar. 21, 2001 PST

WASHINGTON -- It was reunion time Tuesday on Capitol Hill, as
conservatives rallied to decry Internet "bestiality," a jab at overly
permissive liberals, and remind everyone that library filtering is not
only a good idea but also a very good law.

A clutch of conservative groups, joined by Republican legislators and
a blocking-software trade group, sounded precisely the same themes at
a press conference that they gave back in 1995: Internet porn is
endangering our youth, and the federal government has to do something
   about it.

Not shirking from salaciousness, anti-porn activists suggested that
the Internet was little more than a place to find pictures of women
   having sex with dogs.

"I believe that a student should be able to search the Internet for
information on wolves for a school report without being exposed to a
picture of a woman having sex with a wolf," said Donna Rice-Hughes, a
spokeswoman for FamilyClick.com who's well known in political circles.

Wendy Wright of Concerned Women for America was more graphic:
"Pornography is getting more hard-core, including torture and
mutilation of women, bestiality and child pornography."

They and their allies had showed up to defend the Children's Internet
Protection Act, a federal law linking blocking software to public
funding of Internet access, which library groups on Tuesday sued to
   overturn on First Amendment grounds.

The earnest exhortations and denunciations of anything more prurient
than, say, WB's 7th Heaven were remarkable not for their vehemence but
for their precedents: The same groups employed the same
Fido-does-Debbie arguments when unsuccessfully defending the
Communications Decency Act and the Child Online Protection Act.

Demeaned and Victimized
Indians Say Sports Mascots, Ads Create Subhuman Image

By Dean Schabner

March 20 - Would you buy Martin Luther King Malt Liquor, go to the Mahatma
Gandhi Strip Club or wear Jesus Christ Jeans?

If any of these make you uncomfortable, you might have an inkling of how
Lakota Sioux, and American Indians in general, respond to the use of the
name Crazy Horse to market everything from jeans to strip clubs.
American Indian activists see a connection between the use of the name of a
man considered a spiritual leader and the acceptance of Indian-related
nicknames and mascots for sports teams, which they say range from the simply
demeaning to the sacrilegious and together keep American Indians from being
considered on a level with other ethnic groups.

"[The use of such images] reinforces all of the stereotypical conceptions of
native people so prevalent in the American consciousness, effectively
reducing the fullness of our humanity to a unidimensional farce," Joe Gone,
a psychologist and member of the Gros Ventre tribe said in an interview with
the American Psychological Association Monitor.

The fact that these mascots and advertising images exist, according to Gary
Brouse of the Interfaith Council on Corporate Responsibility, is evidence
that American Indians have been left out of the mix as America has become
more conscious of the rights of minorities.

Problems of Perception

A figure of a black, a Jew or Latino comparable to the Cleveland Indians'
Chief Wahoo mascot would not be tolerated by society, just as the use of the
name of a person of another race who was as revered as Crazy Horse is by
American Indians to advertise an alcoholic beverage or strip club would be
met by outrage, Brouse said.

"Crazy Horse was a very sacred leader," he said. "He is mostly known in
non-Indian Country as a military leader. In Indian Country, he is a
religious leader."

Though associating the name with a clothing line, as Liz Claiborne Inc. does
with its Crazy Horse brand, would seem less offensive to Indians than some
of the other ways it has been used, the company's ads featuring skinny
models casting languid looks at the camera are hardly harmonious with what
Crazy Horse represents to Indians.

"He's a cultural hero," said Wilmer Mesteth, a Lakota tribal leader. "He was
something like Martin Luther King or [Nelson] Mandela. Fighting for the
rights of his people, and he gave the ultimate sacrifice of his life."

The company issued a statement last week in response to a request for an
interview that said: "We oppose products that reinforce negative stereotypes
about Native Americans or any other ethnic, racial or cultural group.
Moreover, we have never used Native American imagery or iconography, and we
never will."

Liz Claiborne "intends no disrespect to any member of the Native American
community," the statement said. "Although the issue has yet to be resolved,
we understand the views that are being expressed and we remain hopeful that
we will eventually reach a mutually acceptable agreement."

Taking the Sacred, Making It Silly

The Lakota's long running battle to get companies to stop using the name
Crazy Horse to market products is just one aspect of American Indians'
struggle to redefine themselves in the eyes of non-Indians.

"I think that part of it is that America needs to be educated," Mesteth
said. "We're alive and well and still struggling. We're struggling against
great odds to maintain our lives."

That effort includes the annual appeals to professional sports teams like
the Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves and football Washington Redskins and
Kansas City Chiefs to rethink their nicknames and mascots. The insults
presented by these names and figures goes beyond the caricature. Just the
name Redskin is considered by many American Indians to be a term as
insulting as words referring to other ethnic groups that are unprintable.

Many of the objects commonly waved around by team mascots, such as staffs
decorated with eagle feathers or "peace pipes," and the long trailing
feathered headdresses they often wear are sacred objects to various tribes.
It's as though they were waving crucifixes or Torah scrolls to spur on their
fans.

"It says, 'Your religion is not as important as mine,'" Brouse said. "Why
can't we carry our understanding of what is offensive and prejudicial over
to other groups? Why can't we understand what is offensive to others?

"I know [New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani] has been very upset and very
vocal about museum displays using the Virgin Mary. This is even worse," he
added, referring to two Brooklyn Museum of Art shows that featured work that
Giuliani considered insulting to Catholics.

Numerous universities, colleges and schools have responded to Indians'
requests to get rid of their Indian-related nicknames and mascots. Some
schools - such as the universities of Wisconsin and Iowa - have gone so far
as to schedule no games against

Re: [CTRL] Bush voids drinking water, arsenic rule

2001-03-21 Thread Prudence L. Kuhn

-Caveat Lector-

In a message dated 03/20/2001 7:26:33 PM Eastern Standard Time,

  - Despite a 1999 National Academy of Sciences finding that arsenic in
drinking water causes bladder, lung and skin cancer, the Bush administration
on Tuesday reversed a Clinton decision requiring 3,000 communities to upgrade
their water systems to protect against arsenic poisoning. The Environmental
Protection Agency said it was withdrawing the new standards reducing
allowable levels of arsenic in drinking water by 80 percent until it can
review the science and costs more. "I am committed to safe and affordable
drinking water for all Americans. I want to be sure that the conclusions
about arsenic in the rule are supported by the best available science," said
EPA Administrator Christie Whitman. The administration also announced Tuesday
it would honor a consent decree to toughen pesticide regulations that EPA
signed with environmental groups and farm workers the day before Clinton left
office. But it said it would take a new look at some of the risk assessments
 in re-evaluating pesticides.

Isn't it comforting to know that the Republicans are now looking out for your
health? Well, as long as it doesn't cost too much. I do have to admit that
the thought of Dubya and Christie imbibing the water they espouse, gives me a
good feeling. Prudy

The muzzled tiptop experts agree that the Murrah Building was NOT
destroyed by a fertilizer bomb in a Ryder Truck, but by several contact
charges INSIDE that building and positioned on the critical failed support
columns. And very soon after the bombing the Murrah Building was hastily
demolished (terminated) and without an independent forensic examination.

We are now told that Mc Veigh wants to be speedily executed
(terminated) and buried without an independent forensic examination
(autopsy). Do we really believe that? Isn't that convenient for the
federal power structure that Mc Veigh wishes to be hastily terminated without
an independent forensic examination entirely analogous to the building he
allegedly destroyed with his one "magic" bomb? (Kind of like Oswald's one

Will Mc Veigh be hastily executed and denied an independent

Many of the FBI agents who mishandled WACO in addition to Ricks were
also directly involved in the OKC bombing coverup and were from the

One FBI agent named Gray was in the FBI communications center at WACO
listening to all the FBI bugs in the compound. Gray was a negotiator

agent Gray and testified against Gray at the Oklahoma County Grand
Jury investigating the bombing.

The Grand Jury never called Gray to respond to the allegations. The
FBI has immunity in these cases we were told and does not have to
testify before state or county grand juries!! Remember McVeigh said
during his 60 minutes interview that he held the FBI more responsible
for Waco than the BATF. MCVeigh also wrote a letter to the Oklahoma
Gazette with even stronger allegations against the FBI. The FBI had
agents in the Murrah building every day at 9am and dropped off kids
at the day care center. But the FBI was tipped and did not show up
inside the Murrah building on the morning of 4/19/1995. They were
outside instead!

superstar amidst the great speculators.
When the last "Forbes" list of the best paid managers and financiers was
published, Soros was in the
lead by a huge margin. In the last year he earned 550 million US$,
twenty times as much as the
Disney Boss. When Soros opens the hunt, the international money markets
get moving and the
reserve banks start worrying. In Sept. 1993 he succeeded over the Bank
of England. He was
certain the Bank would have to take the pound that came under pressure
out of the European
exchange mechanism and devalue it. He gambled 10 Billion US$ --with
success. He made 1 Billion
US$, which the British taxpayers now have to come up with. He himself
likes to be openly known
as the man who wants to influence the big money markets of the world.
This is a very unusual stance
for an investor to take, who should rather be interested in using
situations unobservantly that the
competitors have not yet discovered. In March 1993, Soros' activities
became known when he
predicted a rise in the price of gold. It is assumed --since this
started a buying spree in precious
metals --that this drove the price up 20% over the highest price since
the Gulf War. In the beginning
of June 1993, he wrote an open letter to the business editor of the
London Times, Anatole
Kaletsky, announcing that he intented to urge the money markets to sell
large amounts of German
government bonds in favor of French stocks. Which means: Down with the
German mark and
attack on the Bundesbank!
In several newspapers across the world Soros is praised as a
kind of "Robin Hood of the Computer Age", since by speculation he takes
from the rich nations in grand style to hand out to
Eastern Europe and Russia via several Soros Foundations, to prepare the
way for "Democracy" in
those "poor" countries that had been bled dry by communism.
Who then is Soros? The official story says that he was born in
1930 to Jewish parents and as a
teenager had been chased from Budapest by the Nazis. He enrolled at the
"London School of
Economics" and in the mid-50's came to the U.S. There he was magically
drawn to Wall Street, but
his career until 1969 was unspectacular. Then with a partner he took
over an investment fund. He
sold stocks he didn't own as futures, hoping that their price would fall
nearer the qualifying date and
that he could aquire them at a price lower than his selling price.
From this fund the "Quantum Group" evolved, a family of
investment funds operating from the
Dutch West Indies. Quantum is one of the most impressive "investment
machines" in the world. In
8 of the last 24 years it made an "official" profit of over 50%, in 2 of
those years even over 100%.
In the meantime Soros handed business over to a group of managers and
limits himself to designing
the "great campaigns". He put down his princples in the book, "The
Alchemy of Finance", where he
says what "financial speculators think more important than real economic
facts".
But this is but the picture the media -- and we know who owns
them --paint of him. Who is he in

William Engdahl knows this to say about him:
"Soros speculates on the world's financial markets via his

Americans Have a Right to Know
About the Council on Foreign Relations
by John F. McManus

Reprinted with permission, The John Birch Society, September 1994

There exists in our nation today a privately run organization with only
3,000 members, several hundred of whom are U.S. government officials.
But
even though this organization possesses enormous influence over the
actions
of our national government, most Americans have never heard of it.

This same organization's members dominate our nation's mass media,
multinational corporations, the banking industry, colleges and
universities,
even the military. Yet its domination is unknown to the average citizen.

The members of this small but extremely influential group are
responsible
for a parade of foreign policy disasters in China, Korea, Vietnam,
Nicaragua, Panama, Cuba, and Africa. The group itself has always sought
to
lead the United States into a one-world socialistic system led by its
members and their like-minded associates in other nations.

Shouldn't you know about this organization and what its members are
planning
for the 1990s?

This pamphlet will introduce you to the Council on Foreign Relations,
the
little-known New York City-based organization that is both the seat of
the
liberal Establishment and the main force pushing the United States into
the
new world order.

CFR Wants One-World Socialism

It was a disappointed but determined group of diplomats from the United
States and England who gathered at the Majestic Hotel in Paris on June
17,
1919. Their disappointment stemmed from the U.S. Senate's rejection of
America's proposed entry into world government via the League of
Nations.
But they remained determined to scrap the sovereignty of each of their
nations, and all nations.

The leader of the U.S. contingent at this 1919 conference was President
Woodrow Wilson's top advisor, Edward Mandell House. In his 1912 book,
Philip
Dru: Administrator, House laid out a plan for radically altering the
American system via what he termed a "Conspiracy." The book supplied his
ultimate goal: "Socialism as dreamed of by Karl Marx."

The Paris gathering led to the formation of the British Royal Institute
for
International Affairs and the American Council on Foreign Relations
(CFR).
With Rockefeller and Carnegie money backing it, the CFR quickly
attracted
influential Americans who used their influence to labor for the
one-world
socialist goal. In 1939, the organization accepted a formal invitation
to
establish a relationship with the U.S. State Department. That
relationship
soon grew into CFR domination of the foreign policy of our nation.
Practically every Secretary of State for the past 50 years—serving both
Democratic and Republican Administrations— has held CFR membership.

Explicitly Stated Goal

As early as 1922, the CFR’s prestigious journal, Foreign Affairs,
brazenly
called for "world government" at the expense of our nation's
independence.
Repeatedly airing this subversive goal over subsequent years, Foreign
Affairs published its most explicit call for the termination of U.S.
sovereignty in Richard N. Gardner's 1974 article entitled "The Hard Road
to
World Order."

Admitting that "instant world government" was unfortunately
unattainable,
the Columbia University professor and former State Department official
proceeded to champion "an end run around national sovereignty, eroding
it
piece by piece." He also pointed to numerous international groups and
causes, each of which he claimed "can produce some remarkable
concessions of
sovereignty that could not be achieved on an across-the-board basis."

At the time this article appeared, hundreds of CFR members were holding
high
government posts. Those who were required to swear an oath to support
the
Constitution of the United States should have immediately resigned from
the
CFR. None did. Nor were any asked to do so by superiors in government.
Instead, the erosion of national independence and the undermining of the
Constitution continued.

CFR members like Gardner have historically helped similarly determined
world-government advocates achieve power in other nations. It didn't
matter
to them whether foreign leaders were professed socialists, communists,
or
whatever, as long as they shared Edward Mandell House's goal of
"Socialism
as dreamed of by Karl Marx." Marxism was the goal, and that has always
meant
economic control of the people and world government.

Over the years, therefore, CFR members have carried out the Marxist
goals of
their organization's founder when they helped one communist thug after
another take control of once-free nations. Now that communism is no
longer

Raise that Flag, Limor!
By Michael Freund

Israel is famous for many things, but civil discourse isn’t one
of them. In a political culture oddly reminiscent of American
professional wrestling, with its outlandish scripts, bizarre
characters and predictable cliffhanger finales, Israel’s
democracy is as vibrant as it is chaotic. But whereas America’s
wrestlers deliver blows that are staged for effect, Israel’s
political pugilists strike with far more painful force.

Indeed, Israel’s intellectual vanguard has wasted little time in
directing its acrimony at newly appointed Education Minister
Limor Livnat. Livnat was just settling in to her new position
when she came under fire for daring to suggest that the Jewish
state ought to be teaching Zionist and Jewish values in its
classrooms.

This “sin” was compounded by her decision to remove an
inflammatory poem by a Palestinian militant nationalist from the
Israeli school curriculum. Livnat further raised the left’s ire
when she barred an Education Ministry textbook deemed unfit
because it distorted Israeli and Jewish history.

Sadly, rather than criticizing Livnat on the merits of her
decisions, many of her detractors have resorted to the lowest of
schoolyard tactics: name-calling. Examples, unfortunately,
abound.

Columnist Gidon Spiro compared Livnat’s actions to the repressive
measures adopted by the Chinese Communist party against its foes
(Kol HaZman, March 16). Hebrew University Prof. Eli Poudeh warned
that if Livnat continues on her current course, “the Education
Ministry will turn into, in the words of George Orwell, the
Ministry of ‘Truth’ ” (Ha’aretz, Hebrew edition, March 19).

Even more distressing is that some of Israel’s leading writers
have joined the fray, tossing aside thoughtful analysis in favor
of mudslinging. Tom Segev, considered to be one of Israel’s top
journalists, labeled Livnat the “Batwoman of Zionism” and
asserted, “Her fury transforms her into a sister of the
Buddha-smashing Taleban in Afghanistan” (Ha’aretz, March 16).
Columnist Yoel Marcus invoked the shadows of the past when he
wrote, “What will she do next? Burn books in the downtown
districts of Israel’s cities?” (Ha’aretz, March 16)

It is simply astonishing that a government minister is attacked
for trying to instill in Israeli schoolchildren the most
cherished values and beliefs of our people. That, after all, is
why schools exist. Not merely to teach the mechanics of
mathematics, but the qualities of good citizenship. And to be a
good citizen in Israel means to appreciate and understand the
country’s history, traditions and heritage.

Equally astonishing is the manner in which this “debate” is being
conducted. Those opposing Livnat have vilified her rather than
criticized her. They claim to be coming to the defense of our
children’s education – but the manner in which they do so only
sets a poor example for those very same kids.

It is clear that Israel’s schools desperately need a strong
injection of Zionist and Jewish values. Israeli youth need to be
reminded why they are here and why the State of Israel is far
more than just another Levantine state with decent cable TV.

To infuse Israeli students with a greater sense of attachment to
the country, we can start by insisting that every schoolroom be
adorned with a large, outsized Israeli flag next to the
blackboard. There is no reason why the national symbol should be
virtually invisible at our nation’s schools.

Similarly, the singing of Hatikvah, the national anthem, should
become a regular part of every school’s routine. Growing up in
the United States, I recited the “Pledge of Allegiance” at the
beginning of every school day, and I remember it still. With its
beautiful words and stirring music, Hatikvah should resonate off
of students’ lips every morning.

Bomb that gave Clinton victory could still return to haunt him

By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard in Washington

RELAXING on Air Force One after the election, Bill Clinton told
reporters it was the Oklahoma bombing that proved the
turning-point in his political fortunes.

It was the moment when the militias, the Christian Right and the
Gingrich onslaught against government, all melded together in the
public mind as one rampant movement of extremism. "It broke a
spell in the country as the people began searching for our common
ground again," said Clinton.

I was struck by the observation, because I have long believed
that the Oklahoma bombing was the spring-board for the remarkable
come-back of Clinton.

The lorry bomb that blew up the Murrah Federal building on April
19 1995, killing 168 people, was a traumatic event. Had it been
carried out by foreign radicals, the impact on the national
psyche would have been far less. But this was a home-grown
conspiracy. Americans were committing mass murder against other
Americans. A class full of infants in a day-care centre massacred
in cold blood - by Americans.

Clinton seized the moment. He blamed Right-wing radio talk shows
for sowing distrust of government institutions and for creating a
climate of "hate" that fostered recourse to violence. He did not
name the Republicans as co-conspirators; he did not have to. The
US media made the connection for him.

Tim McVeigh was the military expression of the Gingrich agenda,
opined the commentators. Republicans had failed to understand
that rhetoric has consequences, and now look what had happened.

A few Republicans dared to reply that it was the deployment of
tanks and CS gas by a militarised FBI against women and children
in Waco that had set off the deadly spiral. But most of them were
too intimidated, or horrified, to articulate a defence. It worked
like magic for Clinton. With control over the Justice Department
and the FBI - which he has politicised to an extraordinary degree
- he has been able to shape perception of the bombing.

But what if the government has suppressed the full truth? What if
the most important investigation in modern history has been
compromised to ensure the re-election of the President?

These are not idle questions. A family that lost two children in
the day-care centre has accused the Justice Department of

a cover-up. After conducting their own private investigation for
the past 18 months Glenn and Cathy Wilburn have amassed evidence
suggesting that the government had prior knowledge of the bombing
- and negligently failed to stop it.

They have demolished the prosecution claim that McVeigh acted
alone at the crime scene. The Wilburns have over 300 hours of
taped testimony from witnesses who spotted McVeigh with other men
in Oklahoma City between 8am and 9am on April 19. The last
witness to see the Ryder lorry as it pulled up in front of the
Murrah Building, said that the stocky man who got out of the
driver's side looked nothing like the tall, gangly McVeigh.
who: no such list 'got'

The Wilburns, and their daughter Eyde Smith, have now taken their
case to the Oklahoma courts. In a civil lawsuit they have named
two men - Michael Brescia and a former German army officer,
Andreas Strassmeir - as alleged accomplices of McVeigh. They have
accused the Justice Department of failing to pursue all the
conspirators because one or more of them were federal informants
who had penetrated the bombing ring.

Fortunately for Clinton this story did not break in the

Bush Accused of Undermining Clinton's Environmental Rules

Saturday, March 17, 2001
By John Heilprin
E-mail This Story

WASHINGTON - Environmentalists are accusing the Bush
administration of using the federal courts to undermine former
President Clinton's forest protection plan.

The government on Friday sought to accommodate a legal challenge
to the forest plan by offering to suspend the new rules, pending
a hearing in the case being brought in federal court by timber
interests and the state of Idaho.

The plan, unveiled in the final days of Clinton's presidency,
would ban road-building and logging in a third of the nation's
federal forestland. Friday's action added to concerns among
environmentalists that President Bush was signaling his intention
to reverse the regulations.

"This appears to be a calculated first step by the administration
to avoid offering any defense of the roadless policy," said Tim
Preso, a staff attorney for the Earthjustice Legal Defense Fund.

"By asking for another delay rather than vigorously defending the
rule, the Bush administration is giving us every reason to
believe they're planning to bring bulldozers back into our
national forests," he said.

Two lawsuits have been filed, challenging the controversial
timber restrictions.

In a filing with a federal court, government lawyers made a
proposal seeking to postpone a scheduled March 30 hearing on
Idaho's request for a preliminary injunction to keep the ban from
going into effect. And they said if the request is granted they
would not implement the rule in advance.

In addition to Idaho's lawsuit, a second suit against the ban has
been filed by Boise Cascade Corp., Boise and Valley counties,
Emmett, Idaho, rancher Brad Little, off-road vehicle groups and
the Kootenai Tribe.

The ban "only increases the odds commercial sales will continue
to decline" said the Boise Cascade, which announced closures of
plywood and lumber operations in two communities last month due
to declining federal timber sales.

But a coalition of environmental groups also has filed to
intervene on behalf of the Forest Service, arguing that the
roadless areas protect critical habitat for animals and fish in
the state and must be preserved.

The administration's move on the forest issue is the latest in a
series of actions that have riled environmentalists.

Bush this week abandoned his campaign pledge to curtail power
plants' carbon dioxide emissions and suggested exploring public
lands and national monuments for energy resources. He also has
made drilling in an Arctic wildlife refuge a centerpiece of his
upcoming national energy plan.

The Clinton ban would affect 58 million forest acres where no
roads currently exist.

Published on Jan. 12, eight days before Clinton left office, it
was two years in the making, after the government solicited 1.6
million public comments and held 600 public hearings.

The ban originally was scheduled to go into effect on March 13,
but last month Bush postponed it until May 12 so that he could
review it.

Shortly after Clinton announced the ban, the state of Idaho
sought a preliminary injunction, saying the government had not
conducted adequate research nor allowed for sufficient comment in
deciding the forestlands should be protected.

U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge in Boise, Idaho, set a hearing
for March 30.

On Friday, lawyers for the Agriculture Department, which oversees
the Forest Service, asked the court to delay the hearing until
early May.

They also proposed invoking a little-used administrative rule to
suspend the ban, saying the department "has committed to
postponing the effective date of the rule until this court has
decided the motion for a preliminary injunction."

Bush cannot block or alter the forest restrictions without going
through a new rule-making process since they were published
before he took office.

"Until the administration is finished with its review of the
roadless policy, it will not comment on the merits," Justice
Department spokeswoman Christine Romano said.

[CTRL] US media black out Civil Rights Commission report on Florida vote

2001-03-21 Thread radman

-Caveat Lector-

Why did the US media black out the Civil Rights Commission report on the
Florida vote?

http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/mar2001/civ-m21.shtml

By Jerry White
21 March 2001

It would seem elementary that a report from a federal civil rights agency
charging widespread voter disenfranchisement in the pivotal state of
Florida during the 2000 US presidential election would be a major news
item. Not so, according to the decision-makers at the US broadcast media
and some of the most influential newspapers.
Twelve days ago the US Commission on Civil Rights issued the preliminary
findings in its probe of the Florida election, declaring it had found
evidence suggesting voting rights violations by state officials. The
commission chairwoman, Mary Frances Berry, reported that, among other
irregularities, state officials used an inaccurate database knowing that it
would wrongly identify as convicted felons thousands of legal voters, who
were then purged from the state's voter list.
(See our report: US Commission on Civil Rights charges 'voter
disenfranchisement... at heart' of Bush victory in Florida
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/mar2001/vote-m10.shtml)
The commission's report did not name the "key officials" who it said were
responsible. But from the evidence the commission presented, one could only
conclude that President George W. Bush's brother, Florida Governor Jeb
Bush, along with Secretary of State Katherine Harris and other Republican
officials, intentionally acted to make certain that likely Democratic
voters would face obstacles casting their ballots and having them counted.
In particular, the commission pointed to the disenfranchisement of tens of
thousands of working class and minority voters.
The commission released its politically explosive report at a press
conference held on the morning of March 9 at its Washington, DC
headquarters. The event was attended by reporters and photographers from
the ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN and Fox television networks, as well as from the
Associated Press and several radio stations and newspapers.
Initially, the report was treated as a major story. The Associated Press
had an article on the news wires shortly after the report was released, and
CBS radio broadcast the commission's findings as its lead story at 11 a.m.
After that, however, news of the report was virtually effaced from the media.
Cable News Network's Headline News, which purports to present 24-hour
coverage of the most important developments of the day, did not air a word
about the Civil Rights Commission's findings. The television networks, ABC,
NBC, CBS and Fox, followed suit, saying nothing about the report during
their evening news broadcasts.
The story was either ignored or downplayed by the print media. On March 9,
the day the report was to be released, the New York Times carried a small
article, on page 14, which included one paragraph about the commission's
charges of voter disenfranchisement.
The Washington Post was no less dismissive. On March 10 the Post published
a four-paragraph article in its "Washington in Brief" column in the back
pages of the edition. According to a media relations representative for the
Civil Rights Commission, neither the Times nor the Post sent reporters to
cover the release of the report, although, in the case of the Post, the
newspaper's offices are only 11 city blocks from the commission's headquarters.
The rest of the US print media treated the release of the report as a
non-event, with only about a dozen papers, half of them located in Florida,
reporting it. USA Today ran a report on page 13 of its March 12 edition.
Given the substance of the commission's report, the World Socialist Web
Site decided to contact the television networks to demand an explanation
for their failure to inform the public of its release. CBS and NBC news
spokespersons did not return our calls. In the case of CNN, we were
transferred to an operator at the Atlanta-based station's "comment line,"
who said, "As far as the network is concerned, we are not obligated to give
an explanation as to what news is on the air."
The WSWS did get through to an executive at ABC News headquarters in New
York City, who asked that he not be named. At first he sought to justify
the network's decision by saying the report was only a preliminary summary
of the commission's findings. Apparently, he wasn't even certain that this
was the case. "That's your understanding, isn't it?" he asked the WSWS
reporter.
After the WSWS reporter outlined the substantive character of the Civil
Rights Commission's findings, the ABC News executive insisted that his
network had provided ample coverage about charges of discrimination against
minority voters.
The following exchange ensued:

WSWS: Tell me, how does this process work? You had reporters there. A
document was released from a federal agency. You had an editorial board
meeting. How did you decide this should not be presented to the American
public?

Clinton Rule Attempted to Alter Definitions of 'Fetus' and 'Child'
 By Jason Pierce
 CNS Editorial Assistant
 March 21, 2001

(CNSNews.com) - Pro-life organizations are fired up over a pending
federal regulation, devised during the last days of the Clinton
administration, that could, according to critics, redefine the terms
"fetus" and "child" and result in the legal use of newborns for
 scientific research.

The regulation, which was cleared by the Clinton administration on
January 17, but then postponed by the Bush administration, states
that a newborn is still considered a "fetus" until it is determined
the baby will live by "independently maintaining a heartbeat and
respiration." Only when this determination is made is the baby
considered a "child," according to the rule.

When the Bush Administration took office, it immediately placed a
60-day moratorium on the implementation of Clinton's fetus rule as
well as many others. The moratorium expired March 19, but last week,
a group of pro-life congressmen managed to convince Health and Human
Services Secretary Tommy Thompson to extend the moratorium on the
fetus rule by another 60 days.

Reps. John Shadegg (R-Ariz.), Chris Smith (R-N.J.), James Barcia
(R-Mich.) and Joseph Pitts (R-Pa.) now find themselves at the center
of the controversy, following their letter to Thompson.

"If this rule is allowed to proceed, the position of the federal
Department of Health and Human Services with regard to 'human research
subjects' will be that babies born alive are not necessarily children,"
the congressmen wrote. "This cannot and should not be the position of
an agency tasked with defending children and protecting life."

Although the regulation has not yet taken effect, some pro-life
organizations believe the four congressmen could have done more
 to block it permanently.

"It shouldn't take 60 days to see how bad this is, it only took me
forty-five minutes," said American Life League Spokesman Patrick
Delaney. "And the curious lack of fundamental ethical standards is
directly reminiscent of the Nazi doctors."

Delaney said the regulation degrades humans to the point of treating
 them like specimens for research.

"I personally can't help but to be reminded of the Nazi doctors who
determined human persons as experimental guinea pigs," Delaney said.
"These regulations seem to be no different and these so-called
regulations are a semantic rationalization for murdering innocent
 human beings."

Delaney said pro-life voters elected President Bush in hopes that his
administration would revoke such regulations left over from the Clinton
administration. However, President Bush has been disappointing in this
 area, Delaney said.

"It seems to us that repeal of these regulations is a no-brainer and
the hesitation of the Bush administration in only issuing a sixty-day
extension is outrage in itself," he said. "We believe in order for
politicians like Tommy Thompson and George W. Bush to claim that title
of pro-life, they need to respect personhood of a child beginning from
 conception.

"If they don't, it is our opinion they would have no claim to say they
 are pro-life," Delaney said.

Other groups are equally determined to get the Bush administration to
rid the federal books of similar regulations.

Michael Schwartz, Vice President of Concerned Women for America zeroed
in on the regulation's attempt to redefine the terms, fetus and child.

"What really is of concern here are definitions. You don't pass laws
embodying definitions. A law is supposed to be a directive," Schwartz
said. "To try to find a legislative fix to a definitional problem is
the wrong thing to do unless we can connect it to some comprehensive,
... protective law for human research."

Schwartz added that the fetus regulation was actually proposed in 1997,
"but like so many things, it slipped people's attention until right
before it was supposed to be enacted."

According to a summary, the proposed HHS rule is intended to "provide
additional protections for pregnant women and human fetuses involved
in research.[and] enhance the opportunity for participation of pregnant
 women in research."

Note: forwarded message attached.

They're trying to cover this all up by changing the

by the date it was last updated. Read on.

Dale,

I don’t have very developed research skills, I simply checked out what John
Wallace had written and found it all to be true. You don't have to be
Sherlock Holmes to make the connection, Dale. The info is all there at
Network Solutions.

That is, IT WAS UNTIL SOMEONE CHANGED IT YESTERDAY!!

Nevertheless, it is still easy to see, Dale, and I will now break it down
for you here in four easy steps:

1. SUSTAIN is an IATP organization. For in case you didn’t know that, please
go to http://sustain.org. If that’s not enough, please look at the
registered owner of the site here:
http://networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois?STRING=sustain.orgSTRING=Search.

2. Earth First! is a terrorist organization, I’m sure you would agree. If
not, please take a look at their web site at
http://www.enviroweb.org/ef/primer/ and read a bit about them.

Then look at the address listed for their Chicago branch, also called Red
Gate EF, at http://www.enviroweb.org/ef/contact.html#I.

It’s 3400 W. 111th St #154, Chicago, IL 60655.

3. GEAN is a collaboration between IATP and SUSTAIN. Please go to
http://geaction.org and look at the bottom right hand corner. The contact is
Renske van Staveren at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and there is a SUSTAIN contact as
well. The registered owner is SUSTAIN, which you can see by going here:
http://networksolutions.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois?STRING=geaction.orgSTRING=Search

4. HERE’S WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING

The address of the technical and administrative contact, Jim Bell, AS OF
YESTERDAY, was also:

3400 W. 111th St #154, Chicago, IL 60655

THE SAME ONE AS THE EARTH FIRST ADDRESS IN STEP TWO!!

Apparently someone at GEAN got scared and changed the address since then.
Dale, if you think that I am making this up, please look at the date when
this information was LAST UPDATED:

20-MAR-01, or March 20 2001 which was yesterday.

Dale, the only conspiracy here is the one within your own organization to
cover up this link between SUSTAIN, IATP and Earth First. Someone changed
the address yesterday on purpose, after this link was exposed. Please go see
for yourself.

Believe me, Dale, I hate lies and innuendos as much as anyone. Please take
this seriously and follow the steps above. By doing so you will definitely
see that something is rotten in the state of Minnesota.

Sincerely,

MM

Mary,

You and John Wallace seem to have the same research skills, but I can't for
the life of me understand the connection you are trying to make. Something
about an address in Chicago, an organization named Sustain and so forth all
connected to another organization holding a conference. Convoluted is
another way to describe this conspiracy theory. Nevertheless, what I object
to is a the reposting of information that through innuendo and false claims
calls or refers to IATP as a terrorist organization. We are not and we have
never been. I suspect that you and Mr. Wallace find it a convenient term to

USA: STANDOFF WITH KSMR UNDERWAY USA: RESPONSE FROM THE KSM

http://www.clandestineradio.com/watch/latest.htm

USA: Standoff with KSMR Underway

By Hans Johnson, Cumbre DX, and Nick Grace C., Clandestine Radio
Watch - Washington Bureau, with reports by Chris Lobdell and
Martin Schoech.

[Mar 15] A standoff is underway between the U.S. government and
the recently-launched Kentucky State Militia Radio (KSMR) and the
situation is on the verge of reaching critical mass. With time
ticking both sides are preparing for a showdown that could happen
within days.

Documents just obtained by CDX-CRW indicate that members of the
Kentucky State Militia (KSM) have been under investigation by the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for alleged amateur radio
violations since December. The documents reveal a tense
confrontation between KSM "Major" Steve Anderson, who engineers
and hosts KSMR, and "Commander" Charlie Puckett against the FCC,
which has culminated in the revocation of Anderson's amateur
radio license.

Anderson, who held the Extra-class license AA8DP, received a
"Warning Notice," dated December 8, 2000 that states "Monitoring
information before the Commission indicates that on December 4,
2000 you operated radio-transmitting equipment on 6.890 MHz, a
frequency not licensed to you under your extra Class license."

Puckett, when interviewed independently by CRW and CDX last week,
denied published monitoring reports that the KSM or its members
were involved in the alleged transmissions, which jammed
commercial radio station WWFV.

The FCC, according to the documents, also began an investigation
into Puckett, who holds the Technician-class license KF4ZMG, for
operating on 3860 kHz in December. Puckett denied the violation
in writing, stating that the transmissions were under the
"control" of Anderson - who is licensed for operation on that
frequency. When the government requested specific details from
Anderson about the dates, times and the nature of the
transmissions' identification, he returned his license to the
FCC. "At this time," he wrote in response to the government, "be
advised that... the contract with the agency Federal
Communications Commission, an agent of a foreign corporation,
under the auspices of Amateur Radio license AA8DP, is hereby
rescinded. All authority assumed by the F.C.C. is null and
void."

"I do not reside in any territory or possession of the Federal
Government of the United States of America," he continued, "and
am not subject to any regulation by this fictitious entity."

In what seems to be a major development, Anderson announced
during a broadcast on Friday, March 9, that he received another
letter from the FCC - presumably for his transmissions as KSMR.
"(There is) no point in citing me," he stated. "This is not my
station. This is the Kentucky Militia station... We don't want
to hear from you (because) you don't have anything to say to us.
You don't have any authority over us. We are asserting our First
Amendment Rights here and are protecting them with the Second
Amendment." The Second Amendment refers to the right to bear
arms.

"Take My Gun from My Cold Dead Hands"

Anderson launched KSMR on March 3 and has broadcast nightly on
3260 kHz USB between 0300 and 0400 UTC. The live programs,
confirmed by CRW and CDX to be sponsored by the KSM, begin with a
song called "Take My Gun (From My Cold Dead Hands)" by David
VonKleist that segues into 15 minutes of militia announcements.
Anderson proceeds into a thirty-minute commentary on such topics
as Christianity, alleged U.S. government cover-ups, and
justifications for the existence of patriot militia movement -
which perceives itself to be defending the country against a
corrupted and conspiratorial federal government. The program
then ends with a 15-minute recitation of militia contact
addresses across the United States.

"We are trying to protect and defend the (U.S.) Constitution and
our sovereign Republic," Anderson told CRW-CDX when reached by
telephone. "I hope we're giving a positive message."

According to Puckett, the KSM is sponsoring the station to
provide news and information that is not widely available to the
public. In fact, he alleged, commercial shortwave stations have
been censoring patriot programming. "They were selectively
pulling programs off... Information that people need!"

Published reports, however, indicate that many programs have been
taken off the air for financial and not ideological reasons.

KSMR, Anderson openly revealed, operates at approximately 800
watts, uses an extended-double zep antenna at 110' (36 meters).
The antenna, he said, provides for a 3dB gain over a regular
dipole antenna, and plans are in the works to employ a 3kW
amplifier he calls the "rock crusher." Regardless, the station is
already heard coast-to-coast and has even been monitored in
Western Europe.

"These devious politicians have hatched another scheme
to get rich quick at your expense, without accepting any blame," said
Steve Dasbach, Libertarian Party national director. "And if we don't
speak out immediately, expect this raise to be approved faster than you
 can say 'pickpocket.' "

Just two months after accepting a raise to an
exorbitant $145,100 a year, House representatives are working behind
the scenes to enact a "per diem" expense allowance of $165 per working
day. With about 151 legislative days per year, the raise would amount
 to a $25,000-a-year, tax-exempt pay hike.

But as the public finds out about the maneuver, House
leaders "are getting nervous," according to Capitol Hill sources, and
the proposal could be shelved -- or enacted -- at any time.

"This episode demonstrates that the one word that
should strike fear into the hearts of every American is 'bipartisan.'
After all, there's nothing more dangerous, or expensive, than Democrats
and Republicans working in harmony to funnel your money into their
 pockets," Dasbach said.

As for the amount -- $165 per working day -- he
quipped: "How much would we have to pay them just to stay home?"

Dasbach predicted that taxpayers would have difficulty
deciding what to dislike most about "the sneakiest pay raise in
history": the sneakiness itself, the greed, or the hypocrisy.

  * The Sneakiness: "To avoid publicity, Congressional
leaders agreed to delegate the power to approve the raise to the House
Administration Committee, a low-profile panel that administers payroll
and accounting," Dasbach said. "The panel of six Republicans and three
Democrats can trigger the $165 per diem by simply declaring that their
House colleagues are 'eligible' for it.

"Why are politicians trying so hard to cover their
tracks? Because they remember the public outcry over their last salary
grab of $3,800 a year, which was opposed by 71 percent of the voters.
But don't let them get away with delegating their dirty work to their
cronies on the committee. There may be only nine conspirators, but
there are 426 co-conspirators in the 435-member House -- and all of
 them should be held accountable."

 * The Greed: "If they pile a tax-free $25,000 raise on
top of their lavish salaries, they will be raking in the equivalent of
a $190,000 taxable salary, not including their lucrative pensions, a
$3,000 tax exemption for a second home, and other benefits," Dasbach
said. "And if this raise goes through, Congressional salaries will have
risen an astronomical $80,600 over the last decade, meaning their
raises alone will dwarf the median American family's income. It's time
to stand up and say, 'Enough is Enough!' "

 *  The Hypocrisy: "A $25,000 raise isn't enough for
 these money-grubbing politicians; they want a $25,000 tax-free raise!"
Dasbach said. "It's obvious that House politicians have a love-hate
relationship with the income tax: They love it when you pay yours, but
hate having to pay theirs. You know the government is corrupt when an
activity that can make politicians rich -- in this case, income tax
evasion -- can get ordinary Americans thrown in jail.

"That's why every American should help us combat
Congress's latest salary grab. Think of it as preventing a Capitol
 crime."

[CTRL] JW: DNC HAS FAILED TO RETURN ILLEGAL RIADY/LIPPO FOREIGN DONATIONS (fwd)

2001-03-21 Thread MICHAEL SPITZER

-Caveat Lector-

DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE HAS FAILED TO RETURN ILLEGAL
RIADY/LIPPO FOREIGN DONATIONS

Disclosure Made by Justice Department During
Riady Plea Agreement Hearing

DNC Lied to Press Corps and American People

(Washington, DC) Judicial Watch, Inc., the public interest law
firm that investigates and prosecutes government corruption,
opposed the Riady plea agreement in the Chinagate scandal. It
was in Court last Monday and learned, from the Justice Department
lawyers, that, contrary to public statements, the Democratic
National Committee (DNC) has never refunded or disgorged the
illegal foreign contributions which it received from Riady. The
issue arose under the plea agreement because in the unlikely
event Mr. Riady receives the refunds back from the DNC, he must
turn them over to the United States.

The revelation that the DNC has not voluntarily disgorged, or
been forced to disgorge, the illegal foreign campaign
contributions, underscores the sham and bogus nature of the
Justice Department’s campaign finance investigations and
prosecutions. In addition, not one DNC or Clinton-Gore White
House official has been prosecuted, much less indicted, in the
Chinagate scandal. While Mr. Riady and others deserved “a lot
more” than they received for their crimes of bribery and treason
against the American people, the hard fact is that only
minorities, such as Asian Americans, have been prosecuted at all.

“None of the fat cat ‘white guys’ at the DNC or the Clinton-Gore
White House have been held to account. Nor have the politicians,
such as Senator Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) Carl Levin (D-Mich.),
Robert Torricelli (D-NJ), Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and others who
received illegal monies from Riady and his operative, John Huang.

Indeed, even Bush Labor Secretary Elaine Chao arranged for
[illegal] contributions from Huang to Senator Alfonse D’Amato.
There is a dual system of justice, and the high Caucasian echelon
of the Washington elite are currently above the law,” stated
Judicial Watch Chairman and General Counsel Larry Klayman.

“Judicial Watch has 11 Chinagate lawsuits and is working hard to
have the ‘white guys’ of the DNC, Clinton-Gore White House, and
others held accountable under the rule of law. Unlike the Bush
Administration, we will not be ‘blackmailed’ into failing to
represent the American people. The Bush Administration seem
afraid of the Republican involvement in the Chinagate scandal,
and this has caused it not to bring about justice,” added
Klayman.

[CTRL] US media black out Civil Rights Commission report on Florida vote

2001-03-21 Thread Amelia

-Caveat Lector-

Radman,
Once again you are promoting disinformation. This is NOT a
copy of the Commission Report and the author assumes very
wrongly that the 'election officials' to whom Ms. Berry
refers are Jeb and Katherine when in fact it is the
Democratic poll workers. I watched this on C-Span and the
commission stated repeatedly that NO EVIDENCE OF DELIBERATE
NOR CRIMINAL WRONG DOING WAS FOUND. In fact, it was the
local poll workers, Democratic in most Black neighborhoods,
who caused most of the trouble and Ms. Berry commented on
that fact, too. So you have found somebody who has wrongly
supplied the names of those to whom the report alludes.
That is why there is no coverage on this. It is a non-story
because it basically never happened.

Why don't you post the portions of the actual report instead
of this joker's interpretation of it? That would be far
more accurate. And, yes, Ms. Berry will ry to hang
something on Katherine Harris because that is so much better
for her than admitting this was a colossal waste of
taxpayer's money and yet another Jackson bogus charge. It
should also be embarrassing to those of you who cried 'wolf'
that it turned out to be the black poll workers causing most
of the trouble. Don't tell me it wasn't because I listened
to ALL the testimony and watched lots of it and also on the
follow up, everything CSPAN carried on it. I think the
commission should be humiliated that they fell for this
based on the pitifully lacking testimony given. They are
just trying to enhance their budget with this bogus
investigation of nothing. Worse things happen to whites at
every election and they do not whine and carry on for
months. They correct their registration and get on with it.
Routine anecdotal incidents were blown out of proportion in
an attempt by the deceitful to fabricate a civil rights
incident. It fell short.

Why did the US media black out the Civil Rights Commission
report on the
 Florida vote?

 http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/mar2001/civ-m21.shtml

 By Jerry White
 21 March 2001

It would seem elementary that a report from a federal
civil rights agency
charging widespread voter disenfranchisement in the
pivotal state of
Florida during the 2000 US presidential election would be
a major news
item. Not so, according to the decision-makers at the US
broadcast media
and some of the most influential newspapers.
Twelve days ago the US Commission on Civil Rights issued
the preliminary
findings in its probe of the Florida election, declaring
it had found
evidence suggesting voting rights violations by state
officials. The
commission chairwoman, Mary Frances Berry, reported that,
among other
irregularities, state officials used an inaccurate
database knowing that it
would wrongly identify as convicted felons thousands of
legal voters, who
were then purged from the state's voter list.

[CTRL] FOX: Bush Accused of Undermining clinton's Environmental Rules

2001-03-21 Thread Amelia

-Caveat Lector-

I wish I knew the truth about whether protecting these
forests causes the deadwood, etc. to ignite creating the
terrible fires of the last few years. There are more trees
now than when settlers from the Old World arrived so I do
not think there is over-cutting of the forests but it is the
wildlife habitat that concerns me. It is a shame the timber
cannot be harvested in a more responsible manner than large
companies now use. If it were done correctly with a minimum
of disturbance of species not being harvested instead of
massive clear-cutting of everything, it would satisfy those
of both lines of thought. That, however, is not the
profitable way to do it.

It can be done in a fairly responsible manner, however,
leaving other trees in place because I see it done all
around me by logging crews working for Mead Paper when they
go onto private property and do this logging. Mead pays the
owners but is still not allowed to devastate the property
and often agrees to replant, etc. I guess some of the
problem comes about when there is a single-species Forrest
instead of the variety of these natural forests. It just
seems there should be middle ground between the deadwood
fires of the last few summers and total destruction of the
forest land.

Analysis: Sharon Meets Bush - Bill Koenig

 March 21, 2001

 SECURITY BLANKET

The security for the visit of Israel's Prime Minister
Ariel Sharon
to Washington was enormous. I was walking to the White
House on
Monday, and my usual route was closed off. Taking another
way, I
found that street, just to the west of the White House,
closed
 also.

The reason became immediately clear, because I spotted the
Israeli
flag flying over the Blair House, the residence where
foreign
dignitaries stay when visiting the White House. I also saw
many
official-looking black cars and SUV's parked in front.

A Secret Service officer told me that it would be ten
minutes or so
before the street would reopen. Sure enough, approximately
ten
minutes later, a five-motorcycle brigade pulled out to the
street,
and a convoy of seven cars lined up behind them before
leaving with
 Ariel Sharon and his party.

The most incredible sight was a specially- made black
limousine
with two side windows rolled down on both sides, and two
Israeli
machine gunners sitting in place ready for the slightest
 provocation.

I found out later that the convoy was on the way to the
Pentagon
for Ariel Sharon's full honors presentation and then to
meet with
 Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Late Monday afternoon, upon my leaving for home, I
witnessed
Secretary of State Colin Powell leaving the Blair House
after a
meeting with Sharon. Some Jewish observers clapped and
thanked him
for his powerful message to American Israeli Public
Affairs
 Committee (AIPAC) that morning.

I was in the driveway of the West Wing yesterday when the
Israeli
Prime Minister arrived for a meeting with President Bush.

Here was another example of the tight security in place,
because,
rather than walking the 100 yards from the Blair House to
the White
House, Ariel Sharon rode in his vehicle right to the front
door,
getting out and entering directly into the West Wing.
Sharon left the same way also.

The entire north lawn of the White House had Secret
Service agents
in evidence; I have not nor probably will not see security
this
tight again, unless the new Israeli Prime Minister comes
back for
 another visit.

 ANALYSIS

As I mentioned in my recent commentary, "Middle East:
Bottom Line,"
two of the three key remaining issues in the quest for
Mideast
peace remain the splitting of Jerusalem and the
sovereignty over
the Temple Mount. Both Israel and the Palestinians seem to
be set
in their position and unwilling to budge.

The same scenario applies to the third issue, involving
control
over the strategic Golan Heights, which involves Israel
and Syria.
Again, both sides appear to be firmly holding to their
"line in the
sand" and therein lies the potential for conflict.

Additionally, Sharon has warned everyone that his
government will
not offer anything close to the concessions that former
Prime
Minister Ehud Barak had previously put on the table.

 PERSPECTIVE: SHARON AND BUSH

The Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz contained this article on
Sunday:
"Sharon heads confidently for the U.S., expecting to find
a common
 language with the Bush administration."

Here is the peace that the two leaders envision:

President Bush is interested in securing the flow of oil
from the
Gulf and in reducing Iraq's power. There he needs quiet
and calm in
 the Arab world.

Prime Minister Sharon wants to release his Israeli
citizens from
their fear of Arab terror attacks, while paying Yasser
Arafat and
the Palestinians only the minimum price in territorial
compromise.

Sharon continues to say that security for the people of
Israel is
the number one priority. He also maintains that no further
talks
will take place until the security issues are dealt with
and terror
 is ended.

He also has stated previously that he won't budge on
dividing
Jerusalem, the sovereignty over the Temple Mount, and
control of
the Golan Heights. His main plan is to continue isolating
Arafat
and seeking to overturn his government.

Bush will not push for Middle East peace and is under no
deadline.
He also would like to isolate Iran, Iraq, and most likely
Arafat-all terror concerns in that region. If these
entities are
under control, then the region will be a safer place.

The purpose of Colin Powell's recent trip to the Middle
East was to
share the White House plan with the Gulf War Allies.

Additionally, President Bush will be able to share that
plan in
person with Egypt's President Mubarek on April 2 and King
Abdullah
 of Jordan

In reality we already have agro-terror. The slaughter of

killing cattle for
suffering from a disease that makes them ill but from
which they quickly
recover is the best case of agro-terrorism I've heard in
a long time. One
would think that the money spent to kill and burn the

them to return to full strength and productivity. God

I have been hearing these sorts of reports for a long time
now. One would think the woods would be crawling with
military from all of this. Maybe it is. I did see a large
convoy of non-English-speaking soldiers in unmarked uniforms
last year. I know they did not speak English as they were
ordering food at McDonald's using an interpreter American
(apparently) G.I.who had insignia on his uniform. Not
speaking any language I could recognize so I'd guess Eastern
European/Russian type language. Probably about 50 of them.
But such is part of routine training, etc. so would we even
know if something were to be afoot? AKE

Last Sunday I was eating at place in a rural setting next
to a secondary
country road. I looked up and I saw Army armored personnel
carriers being
hauled up the road led and followed by military jeeps.

( A week ago I was looking at that new watch-gunner tower
on I-77 on the
east side hill, between the Eden's Fork Exit and
Montgomery Exit, mile
marker 103 1/2 just a few miles up 77 from Charleston,
West Virginia.
Then several missile batteries -the launchers- went on by.
I thought "What
on earth is next"? As I am writing the Air National Guard
just flew over
and they are flying in what I call the "Kick Butt
Pattern". Just in case
some commie spy is on here I advise the Red Chinese and
Russians that
Bushky will "smoke" them if he can get past the UN.)

There are no official military bases here other than a few
national guard
units. The direction they came from meant these things
were being hid
somewhere else - out on Uncle Fred's farm somewhere.

Well, I just got the word from an inside source the
military is moving a
lot of hardware to a holding zone depending on which
direction they should
go first;(1) The Middle East -or-(2) The Baltic-Macedonia
area again.

I was told Israel is on the verge of popping off the "Big
One" if it gets
worse. A Middle East War coupled with Macedonia and Red
China on Taiwan
would stretch us too thin but would boost a "War Economy"
wouldn't it?

Who knows, but I have been seeing things and hearing
things and the
mainstream press has been quiet about all of that. Instead
they are
rambling on about the "Hoof-And-Mouth" disease and the
California power
outages -which just may put us in a "State Of Emergency"
by this summer-
at least on the west Coast.

Now the media is admitting pregnant mothers murdered, and
are having their
so-called premature babies saved. Hence, we are murdering
babies with
 abortion.

Apparently, when the heat is on over seas and they are so
concerned about
keeping the lid on it they forget and have a
'Freudian -slip' somewhere
else they have been lying about.

European military bases are in "Lock-Down". Some say it is
because of the
"hoof-and-mouth" and "mad-cow" disease. If so, then they
must know it may
be a terrorist attack. On the other hand, Europe may be in
for another war
-bigger- than we know. Who knows? But one thing is for
sure, nobody is
allowed on or off of the bases!

I received a letter from Dr.Lewis of AIPL ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
describing the
similarities of now and pre-World War Two. A drought-dust
bowl,
hoof-and-mouth-disease in America, the economy gone bad,
fuel shortages
,etc., etc., it looks like a carbon copy. Gee who wrote
this script-here
 we go again?

No wonder they are shaking the pictures off my wall
putting that
underground FEMA base in behind me. No wonder they are
putting air-raid
sirens back in the big cities.

Oh, and the country Clinton gave 5 Billion a year to
update it's nuclear
missiles is the same country backing the trouble in the
Middle East and in
the Baltic's. And that country gave Red China -who has a
200 million man
Army - a few nuclear aircraft carriers and nuke subs - it
is Mother
 Russia!

When all hell rains down on you liberals I want you
Clintonistas to
remember Slick Willy arranged that for you. In the
meantime, you Liberals
make sure you take all of our guns and ammo. You most
certainly want a
 swift victory.

When America has finally been made safe for Americans then
it will also be
safe for any invading Army to take it over - our troops
won't be here to
 protect us.

If any of you out there have extra money go out and buy
extra weapons and
ammo. The day will come when you will have to arm your
neighbor that has
decided to be on your side. And, if they declare a
"National Emergency"
all stores with weapons will be shut down. Think

U.S. House planning "sneakiest pay raise
in history," Libertarians warn Americans

WASHINGTON, DC -- The U.S. House is planning to give itself
"the sneakiest pay raise in history," Libertarians warn: a tax-free,
$165-per-day payment that would be activated the moment an obscure
House panel declares their colleagues are "eligible."

*  The Hypocrisy: "A $25,000 raise isn't enough for
these money-grubbing politicians; they want a $25,000 tax-free raise!"

Think of it as preventing a Capitol
crime."

Friends:

Are Libertarians "a problem?"

The answer, according to the Republican Party, is a resounding yes.
That's why GOP operatives are holding a high-level strategy meeting in
Washington this week.

An article in National Review online says the fact that "Libertarian
Party candidates are seriously hurting Republicans may be the most
underreported political phenomenon of the last two election cycles."

Some Libertarians see this as a problem. They worry that we may be
helping to elect the worst of the two major party candidates.

Other Libertarians see this as a sign of our growing strength and
influence. They believe we should actively contest as many races as
possible.

What do you think? After reading the National Review article (appended
below), please visit http://www.dehnbase.org/poll.cgi?n=2 and
participate in our short online survey. After the survey is complete,
we'll email you a copy of the results.

Thank you for your participation and support.

The GOP's Libertarian Problem
Nader wasn't the only spoiler.

By NR's John J. Miller Ramesh Ponnuru
March 19, 2001 2:25 p.m.

Chuck Muth of the Republican Liberty Caucus is in Washington, D.C.,
this week to meet with GOP operatives on what may be the most
underreported political phenomenon of the last two election cycles:
Libertarian Party candidates are seriously hurting Republicans.

While much has been said about Ralph Nader arguably keeping Al Gore out
of the White House -- the Green Party nominee drew more than 97,000
votes in Florida, for example -- hardly anybody has noticed how
Libertarians have put Republicans on the brink of losing the Senate. In
both 1998 and 2000, a Republican candidate for Senate lost to a
Democrat by a margin much less than the Libertarian's total vote.

The most recent victim was Slade Gorton of Washington. In a final tally
that took weeks to add up and confirm, he lost to Maria Cantwell by
2,228 votes. A Libertarian candidate, Jeff Jared, hauled in 64,734
votes. Two years earlier, Republican John Ensign lost to incumbent
Democrat Harry Reid in Nevada by a measly 428 votes, in a race that saw
Libertarian Michael Cloud draw 8,044 votes. If Ensign had won that race
beating a man who is the second-ranking Senate Democrat, no less --
and another Republican had picked up the seat Ensign came back to win
last year, there would be two more Republicans and two fewer Democrats
in the chamber. Instead of a 50-50 split, Republicans would have a 52-
48 majority. There would be no morbid Strom Thurmond death watch.

The problem isn't just confined to the Senate. The GOP arguably would
also control two more House seats if no Libertarians had run last fall.
Rep. Steve Kuykendall of California lost re-election against Jane
Harman by 4,452 votes; Libertarian candidate Daniel Sherma attracted
6,073 votes. In New Jersey, Democratic Rep. Rush Holt fended off
Republican Dick Zimmer by 651 votes. Worth Winslow of the Libertarian
Party attracted 1,225 votes.

"Libertarians need to understand that they're nothing but spoilers,"
says Muth. "And Republicans need to learn how to earn their votes."

Libertarian voters wouldn't necessarily support Republicans in the
absence of an alternative. Many might not turn out at all. Others would
choose another minor party, such as the Greens, in order to register
disapproval with the two major parties. A few might even vote for
Democrats. But in the main, Libertarians are freedom-loving, small-
government advocates who would find a more natural home in the GOP than
almost anywhere else. "Exit polling shows that we take twice as many
votes from Republicans as from Democrats," says Libertarian Party
spokesman George Getz.

The proof may be found in the 1992 Georgia Senate race, in which no
candidate won a majority. Republican Paul Coverdell led the pack with
49 percent, Democratic Sen. Wyche Fowler nipped at his heels with 48
percent, and Libertarian Jim Hudson took 3 percent. In a runoff between
the two leaders, Coverdell prevailed 51 percent to 48 percent. Hudson
had endorsed him, and Libertarians like to think that their flock
accounted for Coverdell's 3-point jump in the runoff.

That's a rare case of Libertarians helping a Republican -- but only
after forcing a near-death experience. The Georgia runoff might easily
have gone the other way.

In this age of Senate power sharing and a razor-thin GOP House
majority, Republicans can't ignore the Libertarians. If they do, it may
cost them dearly.

Anthrax hoax becomes copycat trend

First threat hit area last November

By MIKE NEMETH
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Anthrax.

The word's frightening.

The bold words go here: Lisa Fulton, left, and Ruth Savage,
workers at Cameron British Foods, make Shepard Pies in the north
Cape Coral facility. Things are back to normal after the company
was the target of an anthrax hoax last November.

Sounds like a Middle Eastern chemical weapon utilized by
wild-eyed fanatics.

Could be something out of a Robert Ludlum or Tom Clancy thriller.

It's leaving the old bomb scare in the dust.

"Over the past few years, there have been between 400 and 500
biochemical threats made in notes and letters," said Brian
Kensel, a special agent with the FBI in Tampa. "And every single
one of them has been a hoax."

For bad jokes, they sure cause a commotion.

Southwest Florida learned firsthand Nov. 24, the day Bonnie
Cameron of Cameron's British Foods in Cape Coral opened a
package, and black powder spilled over her.

Her son found a note inside as his mother went to wash up.
"Anthrax."

"When we first opened it, your first instinct is, 'This is a
bunch of bull,' " said Bonnie's husband, Don Cameron. "But then
there's the seriousness of, 'What if?' That's where the panic
began."

The hoax sent 19 people to Cape Coral Hospital, shut down the
Cape Coral Industrial Park, drew scores of emergency workers and
threw the media into a frenzy.

It was the first of four anthrax scares to hit Southwest Florida
within about 100 days, including Friday's at Sanibel Harbor
Resort.

"Some people do it because they think it's funny," said Duane
Dobbert, a criminal psychology professor at Florida Gulf Coast
University. "Other people do it because they're flat-out
disturbed."

Anthrax is a disease usually found in animals in Third Word
countries, where livestock are not vaccinated.

People are rarely infected, but the disease can be fatal, causing
severe damage to the respiratory system and brain if not treated
promptly with antibiotics.

Dobbert said the first in a series of anthrax threats to strike a
community typically comes from someone seeking revenge against a
particular person, business or industry.

Those that follow usually are from copycats, who either have
someone they want to harm or just want to cause a panic after
learning of the hoax in newspapers or on TV.

Perhaps that's what brought on subsequent threats in Southwest
Florida. On Jan. 24 - two months after the Camerons' business
was threatened - someone sent an envelope labeled "anthrax" and
containing white powder to OSI Collection Services in Fort Myers.

The powder later was identified as talc.

Four employees were forced to disrobe in a tent in breezy
60-degree weather and take a decontamination shower before being
taken to the hospital.

On Feb. 6, Evelyn Crosby, owner of Stonecutter's Jewelry in Cape
Coral, found an envelope in her mailbox labeled anthrax. The word
was misspelled.

She did not open it.

Kensel said the media tend to perpetuate anthrax hoaxes by
covering them. "Tampa media have gotten together and drawn
newsroom guidelines to parallel bomb threats, and we've had very
few incidents in this area," Kensel said.

"Orlando has covered them extensively, and in one week, we had 14
from one source."

Media culpability or not, people are choosing to use the anthrax
threat these days, leaving behind old hoax standbys like bomb
threats or smallpox.

"It's the poison of choice," Dobbert said. "I suspect it's
because the word is frightening. It's very unknown to most
people."

The Gulf War in 1991 made anthrax part of our vernacular.

"There were widespread reports that Iraq had a viable biological
warfare program," said Kevin Briggs of Denver, Colo., a member of
the American Civil Defense Association's board of directors. "The
military said this is a very real weapon in our time."

In 1993, the U.S. Congressional Office of Technology Assessment
estimated that if 100 kilograms of anthrax spores were released
into the air in Washington, D.C., it would kill between 130,000
and 3 million people, according to the Web site for the Journal
of the American Medical Association.

"The thing about anthrax is it's very subtle," Briggs said. "You
wouldn't be able to see or smell or know it's happening unless
you had huge amounts of powder."

Before the Gulf War, Dobbert said, a person fired from his or her
job might seek revenge by calling the IRS and reporting illegal
activities by the target firm, or by calling in a bomb threat,
especially in the days before calls could be traced.

"Stuff a little talcum powder in an envelope, attach a little
love note, and it shuts down operations for a day," added Briggs.

While no one here has released biohazards, it has happened
elsewhere. In 1995, a terrorist group in Japan, the Aum
Shinrikyo, released sarin in Tokyo's subway system.

Review Outlook

Politics and Prosecutors

Last week, the Bush Administration took some serious steps toward
putting the Department of Justice in order after years of Clinton
scandal and controversy. President Bush nominated Michael
Chertoff, an experienced former federal prosecutor to head the
department's criminal division; Mr. Chertoff performed well as
chief counsel to the original Senate Whitewater Committee. And
Mr. Bush set in motion the orderly departure of U.S. Attorneys.

Mr. Bush also let it be known that the U.S. Attorney for the
Southern District of New York, Mary Jo White, would remain in her
job indefinitely. This is a mistake. The Southern District is the
most powerful federal crime-fighting office outside of
Washington. It is critical for a President to have his own person
in the post.

The Southern District is responsible for a wide array of
prosecutions, from political corruption to financial fraud to
world terrorism. Ms. White has done an outstanding job building a
team to prosecute major terrorism cases, winning convictions in
complex trials stemming from plots to blow up the World Trade
Center, the United Nations and U.S. airlines in the Far East.
Today she is prosecuting the important embassy bombings case
against the Osama bin Laden network.

The chief argument for keeping Ms. White on is that she needs to
supervise the bin Laden case. We find this unconvincing, but a
solution could be found in appointing Ms. White special master to
oversee the prosecution, making way for her successor.

It may turn out that it was just Ms. White's misfortune to have
been U.S. Attorney for the Southern District while Bill Clinton
was President; she is not alone in this particular brand of
misfortune. The fact remains that her office ended up with
prosecutions relating to the Clinton faction's depredations
against the political system, specifically those involving the
Teamsters Union and the Democratic Party. The U.S. Attorney's
handling of these cases has been famously slow, and the statute
of limitations on fraud in the Teamsters case expires at year's
end. THE CLINTON YEARS

In 1999, Ms. White's prosecutors convicted former Teamsters
political director William Hamilton for fraud and conspiracy in a
1996 scheme to embezzle $850,000 from the union treasury for the
re-election campaign of then-Teamster President Ron Carey. The
money was laundered as donations to other unions and political
groups, which then returned it in contributions to the Carey
campaign.

Trial testimony about the schemes implicated Mr. Carey, AFL-CIO
Secretary Treasurer Richard Trumka, American Federation of State
County and Municipal Employees head Gerald McEntee, Service
Employees International Union chief Andy Stern, and Terry
McAuliffe, then head of the 1996 Clinton-Gore re-election effort
and currently chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

Ms. White is not connecting the dots in the McAuliffe case, but
others are. Last month the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that
"little noticed testimony" at the trial and before a Senate
committee portrayed Mr. McAuliffe "as a prime mover in a plan to
find Democratic contributors for Carey's faltering 1996
re-election campaign in exchange for Teamsters contributions to
Democratic Party accounts." The Inquirer noted that a 1998 Senate
report concluded that Mr. McAuliffe and other Democratic National
Committee officials "participated in efforts to engage in a
contributions swap scheme. Such efforts included soliciting an
illegal contribution for Carey's campaign."

Mr. Carey was indicted in January in connection with the case but
none of the other men have been charged. All have declared they
did no wrong, and that indeed may be true. But the Carey case is
a dagger pointed at some of the most powerful figures in the
Democratic Party and the American labor movement. Someone other
than Ms. White should make the decision about further
prosecutions, before the clock runs out.

Leaving aside the bin Laden prosecution, there is also the real
possibility that the White tenure will simply begin to go off the
rails. Our reading of her capture of the pardon cases is that it
is largely grandstanding. Law enforcement officials are in wide
agreement that making a case against the former President in the
pardons matter would be almost impossible and constitutionally
ill-advised.

Moreover, both of New York's Senators have begun to intrude
themselves, criticizing the Administration for replacing New
York's three other federal prosecutors. Senator Clinton's
disapproval is especially hilarious, as her husband summarily
fired the entire federal attorney corps as one of his first acts.

With Senators Clinton and Schumer now protectively looming over
Ms.

HA! J2 posting a Libertarian party press release (and
in a favorable light)?! Never thought I'd see the day
In defense, I assume he'll come back with something
along the lines of: even if a fool says the sun is shining,
doesn't mean the moon's out.

The title of the thread sure seems to hit the nail on the
head. As what's-his-face long ago put it:

"All the great governments of the world - those now
existing, as well as those that have passed away - have been
of this character. They have been mere bands of impostors,
who have associated for purposes of plunder, conquest, and
the enslavement of their fellow men. And their laws, as they
have called them, have been only such agreements as they
have found it necessary to enter into, in order to maintain
their organizations, and act together in plundering and
enslaving others, and in securing to each his agreed share
of the spoils.

"All these laws have had no more real obligation
than have the agreements which brigands, bandits, and
pirates find it necessary to enter into with each other, for
the more successful accomplishment of their crimes, and the
more peaceable division of their spoils.

"Thus substantially all the legislation of the world has
had its origin in the desires of one class of persons to
plunder and enslave others These laws have continued in
force for hundreds, and, in some countries, for thousands of
years; and are in force today, in greater or less severity,
in nearly all the countries on the globe.

"The purpose and effect of these laws have been to
maintain, in the hands of the robber, or slave holding
class, a monopoly of all lands, and, as far as possible, of
all other means of creating wealth; and thus to keep the
great body of laborers in such a state of poverty and
dependence, as would compel them to sell their labor to
their tyrants for the lowest prices at which life could be
sustained.

"The result of all this is, that the little wealth
there is in the world is all in the hands of a few - that
is, in the hands of the law-making, slave-holding class; who
are now as much slaveholders in spirit as they ever were,
but who accomplish their purposes by means of the laws they
make for keeping the laborers in subjection and dependence,
instead of each one's owning his individual slaves as so
many chattels.

"Thus the whole business of legislation, which has
now grown to such gigantic proportions, had its origin in
CONSPIRACIES, which have always existed among the few, for
the purpose of holding the many in subjection, and extorting
from them their labor, and the profits of their labor.

"And the real motives and spirit which lie at the
foundation of all legislation - notwithstanding all the
pretenses and disguises by which they attempt to hide
themselves - are the same today as they always have been.
The whole purpose of this legislation is simply to keep one
class of men in subordination and servitude to another."
-- Lysander Spooner (1876)

...and let's not forget that:

"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of
men living together in society, they create for
themselves in the course of time, a legal system
that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies
 it". Frederic Bastiat

"The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the
 laws." --Tacitus

"The state calls its own violence law, but that of
 the individual, crime." --Max Stirner

"Every man is free to do that which he wills,
provided he infringes not the equal freedom of any
 other man." --Herbert Spencer

"What, then, is legislation? It is an assumption by
one man, or body of men, of absolute, irresponsible
dominion over all other men whom they can subject to
 their power." --Lysander Spooner

"Sometimes the law defends plunder and participates
in it. Sometimes the law places the whole apparatus
of judges, police, prisons and gendarmes at the
service of the plunderers, and treats the victim --
when he defends himself -- as a criminal."
 --Frederic Bastiat

"The greatest of all crimes... are committed, not so
much by men who violate the laws, as by men who,
either by themselves or by their instruments, make
the laws; by men who have combined to usurp
arbitrary power, and to maintain it by force and
fraud, and whose purpose in usurping and maintaining
it is by unjust and unequal legislation, to secure
to themselves such advantages and monopolies as will
enable them to control and extort the labor and
 properties of other
