Though such groupings may prove difficult to hold together, the idea is for them to be pro-western while retaining credibility with Muslim leaders and people. (See moderate Arab opinion) Carefully targeted actions As in: these carefully targeted actions are designed to disrupt the use of Afghanistan as a terrorist base of operations (Bush, October 7). The carefully part is essentially meaningless, since to carelessly target an action is to not target it at all - the attack on the World Trade Centre was a carefully targeted action. So all it means is that military action will have a target, which is about the least we could hope for. The inten tion, of course, is to imply a clean strategy. Cave A dwelling that made Osama bin Laden somehow prehistoric and cowardly in the early stages of the crisis - for example They hit and run, they hide in caves (Bush, September 16) or We're going to smoke them out of their caves (Bush, September 25). But as the war goes on the cave becomes an impenetrable fortress, demanding the use of heavy munitions such as bunker busters, and locating Bin Laden is like looking for a needle in a haystac k (Donald Rumsfeld, October 25). Civilisation As used by the US historian Samuel Huntingdon, the concept of the clash of civilisations terrifies the allied leadership and they go to great lengths to undermine it. But they cannot ignore the rhetorical appeal of civ ilisation, so the strategy centres on putting Bin Laden beyond it. For example: this conflict is a fight to save the civilised world (Bush) or an attack on states that have placed themselves outside the family of civi lised nations (Iain Duncan Smith). There is less emphasis on what constitutes civilisation (does it include carpet-bombing?), but Tony Blair's slightly ambiguous reference to Saudi Arabia as a good and dependable frie nd of the civilised world (October 30) hints at exclusivity. (See our values and our way of life) Defaming the good name of ... One of the prime minister's favourites. In recent speeches we have heard that Bin Laden defames the good name of Saudi Arabia (October 30). Of the attack on America, he says: To justify it by saying such murder of the innocent is doing the will of God is to defame the good name of Islam (October 8). Clearly intended to distance Bin Laden from both constituencies, it nevertheless lacks impact since Tony Blair is neither a Muslim nor a Saudi. He is merely speaking on behalf of defamed groups who may not share his views. Global terror network Usually refers to Bin Laden's al-Qaida group but is loose enough to be extended to others if and when the need arises. Hawks and doves Not the division between warmongers and peaceniks that you may expect. As the Bush administration prepared for war, the media divided its main players into hawks such as Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz (who talked of ending states that sponsor terrorism) and doves like Colin Powell. Though the terms are relative, Mr Powell once spoke of his wish to cut the head off ... and kill the Iraqi army, and - it appears - his mission bef ore this war was to build multilateral backing for a US military action. However, it is possible a dove such as Mr Powell supports a more limited war than Mr Wolfowitz. Anti-war sentiment is dissent. Hearts and minds Can be loosely translated as public opinion or active support. Used from 1951 in the 1948-60 Malayan emergency, to win hearts and minds described a British campaign to isolate communist guerrillas from community support , and drive them into the jungle where existence was difficult. In the present crisis, it referred first to the fight to win Afghan hearts and minds, but others have since moved the phrase to the home front, remarking t hat the government is losing the battle for the hearts and minds of the British people (Duncan Smith, October 31). Long haul As in: We are in this for the long haul (Blair on the launch of airstrikes, October 8) or We should also be prepared for the long haul (Jack Straw, October 22). The first refers to the military campaign (even when al -Qaida is dealt with, the job is not over, Blair continued) and the second the west's involvement in Afghanistan when the conflict is over. Often teamed with phrases such as Blair's the job is not over or we can carry on until the job is done (Admiral Sir Michael Boyce on troop deployments, October 26) it adds an unglamorous but

Preparing M.East Policy Statement Date: Fri, 02 Nov 2001 23:13:15 -0600 From: Koenig's International News [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Note from Bill: The Financial Times stated the Bush administration is preparing to make a fresh policy statement on the Middle East - perhaps as early as next week - that is expected to underline US commitment to the creation of a viable Palestinian state. There will be a rally Wednesday, November 7, in Washington D.C to protest this and other matters pertaining to Israel. Here is a link to rally information from earlier this week at the web site. http://www.watch.org/showart.php3?idx=19196rtn=/index.htmlshowsubj=1mcat=1 There is also new information at the bottom of this e-mail. Bush to call for viable Palestinian state http://news.ft.com/ft/gx.cgi/ftc?pagename=Viewc=Articlecid=FT32O6LFKTClive=trueuseoverridetemplate=IXL8L4VRRBCtagid=FTDO9DHMZJC By Roula Khalaf in Washington - Nov 03 2001 00:00:00 The Bush administration is preparing to make a fresh policy statement on the Middle East - perhaps as early as next week - that is expected to underline US commitment to the creation of a viable Palestinian state. Details of the US blueprint, which will build on President George W. Bush's backing of the concept of a Palestinian state, are still being debated within the administration. Both Arab states and Israel are trying hard to influence the outcome. In the context of the Middle East negotiations, the word viable is generally understood to mean that the Palestinian state would have sufficient geographical, economic and political integrity to stand on its own. The statement, which is likely to be made by Colin Powell, US secretary of state, is not likely to include prescriptions on the final status of Jerusalem and Palestinian refugees. The planned US move would make it easier for Arab allies, all of whom are contending with public disenchantment with US policy, to continue to support the war against terror. Shimon Peres, Israeli foreign minister, and Yassir Arafat, Palestinian leader, met on Friday for the first time in more than a month on the Spanish island resort of Mallorca. Recent weeks have been marked by deepening violence and bitter rhetoric between the two sides, alarming Washington's Arab allies. According to Arab officials and pro-Israeli sources in Washington, the first articulation of a policy by the administration could come next week, at the opening of the United Nations General Assembly. It would prepare the ground for US meetings with Arab members of the coalition against terrorism, all of whom are urging Washington to address more closely the Middle East conflict. Administration officials insisted on Friday no final decision had been taken. Colin Powell has said that there will come a time when it will be useful to make a more comprehensive statement, but we're looking at when and how best to do it, said an official. Plans to articulate a policy precede the September 11 attacks on the US. They have been partly driven by Arab demands for greater US involvement to end more than a year of Palestinian-Israeli bloodshed. Arab officials said this week they were expecting the US statement to go beyond last month's US backing for a Palestinian state. They are urging Washington to indicate it does not support the vision of Ariel Sharon, the Israeli prime minister, who wants to limit the size of an eventual state. Israel wants the statement to avoid addressing final status issues such as Jerusalem. - The latest information from the rally planners: EVENTS PLANNED: 3 RALLIES - WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7. -Caveat Lector- http://www.nationalpost.com/ National Post Saturday, November 3, 2001 p. SP17 Understanding sexual impulses in the mind of the extremist Fanatics throughout history have had a hypocritical attitude toward sex. The men who crashed two planes into the World Trade Center claimed to be pious but spent the night before the attacks with prostitutes Dr. Norman Doidge Saturday Post Here's a contradiction. Many of the mass murderers who destroyed the World Trade Center went to prostitutes and lap dancers just before the attacks. That might seem unimportant, except for the fact that they claimed to be pious and, in part, justified their attacks by accusing the West of being a hotbed of sexual licentiousness. This behaviour reveals the ambivalent sexual undercurrent that is part of Islamic extremism with its view of woman as sin-evoking temptress, best appreciated either totally veiled, or totally unveiled. In the early 20th century, an Islamic movement called salafiyya swept through much of Islam, influencing the official Wahabi ideology of the Saudi state and the radical Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. The movement aimed to revive medieval Islamic practices. By the 1930s, it portrayed Western culture as equivalent to jahiliyya, an Arabic term for the barbarousness that preceded Islam. Osama bin Laden, originally a playboy and drinker, was influenced by this line of thought through Egyptian writer Sayyid Qutb. In his book Signposts on the Road, Qutb wrote that the West was the most dangerous jahiliyya which has ever menaced our faith. In one of his books about his 1948-50 trip to America, Qutb described a church dance in Greely, Colo.: Every young man took the hand of a young woman. And these were the young men and women who had just been singing their hymns! Red and blue lights, with only a few white lamps, illuminated the dance floor. The room became a confusion of feet and legs: arms around hips; lips met lips; chests pressed together. Pretty tame stuff compared to the paid sex his murderous followers would indulge in. The story of the terrorists' foray into American sexual hospitality came out when a Boston prostitute freaked out after seeing pictures of the Sept. 11 hijackers. She recognized one from her tryst with him Sept. 9 at the Park Inn, in Newton, Mass. Two of the hijackers of American Airlines Flight 11, which crashed into the World Trade Center, Waleed M. Alshehri and Wail M. Alshehri, spent the night in that hotel. These were not isolated events. As reported by UPI on Oct. 10, the prostitute's driver took her to the Days Hotel in Boston's Brighton district, where she spent time with another hijacker. The same driver also routinely took prostitutes to a male relative of bin Laden. Terrorist ringleader Mohammed Atta and other hijackers reportedly spent US$200 to US$300 on lap dances in the Pink Pony Strip Club in Florida. Marwan Al-Shehhi, who, it is believed, piloted the plane that slammed into the south tower, frequently got lap dances in the Olympic Garden Topless Cabaret in Las Vegas, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The Boston Globe reported that four other alleged terrorists, Satam M.A. Al Suqami, Marwan Al-Shehhi, Fayez Rahsid Ahmed Hasan Al Qadi Banihammad and Mohand Alshehri, who were staying at the Milner Hotel in Boston, called escort services on Sept. 10. The last three are believed to have helped hijack United Airlines Flight 175, while Satam M.A. Al Suqami joined those who hijacked American Airlines Flight 11. Some have wondered whether the hijackers were nervous, knowing they were about to lose their lives, and dealing with their anxiety through a sexual release. Others have speculated that perhaps they wanted a good look at the enemy to see how degraded America was, to motivate them. But fanatics throughout history have had a markedly hypocritical attitude toward sex. Most fanatical sects have an obsession with sexual purity, alongside extraordinary lapses of restraint. Most divide the world into the pure and the impure, the sacred and the profane, clean and unclean, pure ascetic man and female temptress. Mohammed Atta wrote that at his funeral, he who washes my body around my genitals should wear gloves so that I am not touched there. He didn't want women at his funeral either. Fanatical leaders frequently demand their members subordinate all desires to the cause. The Russian nihilist and anarchist terrorist Sergey Nechaev wrote in his Catechism of the Revolutionist, The revolutionary ... has no interest of his own, no affairs, no feelings, no attachments, no belongings, not even a name. Everything in him is absorbed by a single exclusive interest, a single thought, a single passion -- the revolution. Of course, the body has its own rhythms and demands, not so easily obliterated, even by ideology. Islamic extremism doesn't master sexuality -- it exploits it by linking it to politics. In order to train Islamic suicide bombers, teenage boys are isolated

Don't know if anyone else has had this happen yet, but thought I'd let you know. And here's a follow up to Rayelan's THE DAY OF INFAMY - THE MAXIMUM IMPACT, for anyone who has not seen it. The evidence is 'explosive'. This site is a clearinghouse of photographic/video evidence; first hand accounts of the explosion at WTC7; an NYFD fireman's statement that there were bombs in the towers; and additional analysis from folks who have been slogging through this since the first week. http://www.cyberspaceorbit.com/towerblast.html Most incriminating are the CNN footage stills where one can plainly see a huge 30-40 story smoke cloud billowing up in the foreground BEFORE THE TOWERS COLLAPSED -indicating the whole complex was targeted. There are also links to a number of other news sites where photographs have captured some sort of projectil on film (this one from Drudge http://www.drudgereport.com/flash91.htm). One source speculates that cruise missiles might have been shot into the towers. Michael Moore wrote on his site on 9/14 that 'a friend' of his at ABC news said they had a video that caught what appeared to be an F-16 trailing the second plane that crashed into the south tower. This makes sense, as ITN reported in detail on 9/15 that 2 F-16s were scrambled from Otis Air Force base (Cape Cod, MA) at 8:28am on 9/11. It was estimated that it would take an F-16 8 minutes to reach Manhattan - allowing for over 1/2 hour to locate and trail the second plane. Hope everyone's OK. ___ GO.com Mail Get Your Free, Private E-mail at http://mail.go.com

The original is at: http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/front/la-110201recruit.story Bill Could Boost Recruiting at Schools Privacy: Federal measure would force high schools to give names, addresses and phone numbers to the military. By RICHARD LEE COLVIN Times Staff Writer November 2 2001 U.S. high schools would be required to aid military recruiters by turning over the names, addresses and telephone numbers of their students under a federal bill that has drawn fire from educators and privacy advocates. Nearly half of the schools in California and about a third nationwide restrict recruiters' access to that information or to their campuses, according to the Department of Defense. If the provision is approved by Congress and signed by President Bush, school districts that fail to comply could face substantial losses of federal aid. Some opponents of the bill say it conflicts with privacy law, which prohibits the release of information about students without permission from their parents. Others are philosophically opposed to fueling the military's mission or object to its ban on openly gay and lesbian soldiers. "We do not believe the school board should say, even by implication, that our students should look at the military as a first choice of careers," said Jill Wynns, the president of the San Francisco Board of Education. Years of tension between privacy advocates and military recruiters have only been aggravated by the recent war on terrorism. The campaign has boosted support for the military in Congress and elsewhere, some say at the expense of privacy rights. The recruitment measure this week won bipartisan support in a committee working on a federal education reform bill. "I see no reason whatsoever, especially now with the war on terrorism, that any school should close off campuses [to] recruiting," said Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Santa Clarita). "All they are doing is coming on to recruit people. It's a noble profession and at times like this we sure turn to the military for help." Rep. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) pushed for the amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, which is being worked on by a joint committee of the House and Senate. The bill, which already has passed each house of Congress in different forms, also contains the student testing and school accountability policies advocated by President Bush. "To better than 50% of our graduating seniors, the military may offer them the only chance to get a college education and it's a shame that they would not get information about that," Isakson said. He said the amendment was not a reaction to the fight against terrorism, but "in light of Sept. 11 it makes all the more sense for the military to have at least the same access that colleges . . . have" to high school students. Bruce Hunter, a lobbyist for the American Assn. of School Administrators, said he interprets privacy law to bar districts from releasing student information. He said the issue should be up to local districts, however. "The communities and the states pay 93% of the bill for public education and they ought to be able to determine who . . . gets access to their kids," Hunter said. Current practice varies widely across the country. In Connecticut, a relatively liberal and wealthy state, 89% of high schools limit military recruitment either by refusing to turn over contact information or by limiting on-campus visits. Nearly the same percentage of schools limit recruiters' access in Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts and Maine. By contrast, almost all schools in more conservative states such as Colorado, South Dakota, Indiana, Texas and Utah are open to recruiters. A spokesman for New York City's schools said the district allows recruiters to talk to students on campus but does not distribute their contact information. "We're in favor of providing our students with as much information and as many career options as possible, and the military is certainly one of those options," said Kevin Ortiz, a spokesman for the school district. However, the contact information is released only if subpoenaed in a lawsuit. In Portland, Ore., the issue of military recruitment has been a contentious one for the last six years. School board member Marc Abrams began championing a ban on military recruiting as soon as he was elected to protest what he considers the Armed Forces' anti-homosexual policies. "It's not about being anti-military, it's about being pro-democracy and civil rights," said Abrams, a lawyer and a prominent Democrat. "The second that all 55,000 students in the

Gee , ya think there is an agenda attached? As, always, . . . Security 3. Elections 4. Domestic Terrorists 5. Stimulus 6. Ramadan 7. Smokeless 8. Radiation 9. Dr. Germ 1. Judges. Democrat obstructionism in the Senate hit the fan early in the week during a meeting between congressional leaders and President Bush. The meeting was about the war effort, implementing legislation, and the continuing budget process. President Bush asked Senate Plurality Leader Tom Daschle (D, SD) when the Senate was going to move on his judicial nominations. There are over 140 vacancies open on the federal bench, as Daschle and his cohort in crime, Patrick Leahy (D, VT), have successfully bottled up all but a few nominees. Republicans in the Senate were filibustering all appropriations Bills in an attempt to force Leahy to perform his constitutional duty. Daschle responded that he was going to concentrate on the war effort and pass the appropriations Bills, and that Bush had no leverage in the process, as he needed the appropriations bills passed out of the Senate worse than he needed judges. This in your face response by Daschle silenced the room for a bit. Daschle has served up a huge, hanging curve ball with this response, literally begging Bush to slam it out of the ballpark. All Bush needs to do in response is to go to the general public, and note that it will be very difficult to jail, try, convict and sentence terrorists during this war if the federal courts are all balled up in work without having enough judges available to even hold the trials. We will see if he jams this right down Daschle and Leahy's respective throats. 2. Security. Airport security is another topic of contention between the House and Senate. The Senate, always the deliberative body, managed to pass an airport security bill that nationalized all inspectors nationwide. The House passed a bill that set up the feds as standards setting inspectors, a job not unlike that which the FAA performs licensing and certifying pilots, instructors and airports. It is nice to finally see a conservative approach to this issue, rather than knee-jerk, grandstanding lurches toward Big Government by those that ought to know better. 3. Elections. There are 3 elections coming up next month, all pitting democrat challengers to Republican held offices. In Virginia, the democrat was so far ahead of the Republican throughout the year that the race was not even reported. Early last week, polling reported that the race was a dead heat - which normally means that the Republican is 5-6% ahead. In NJ, where conservative Bret Schundler is running to replace Cristy Todd Whitmann, the democrat challenger has started running anti-concealed carry ads, demonizing gun owners. Finally, in NYC, the Republican candidate for Mayor has wrapped himself firmly around the legacy of Rudy Giuliani in local ads. 4. Domestic Terrorists. Well, it only took a month and a half for the Clintonized, unprofessional fools still infesting the FBI to start trying to tie the Anthrax mailings to domestic terrorists (read this as right wing, talk radio, small government, conservatives). The story, leaked by the FBI late in the week, was carried breathlessly by CNN and the major networks. The climate of mistrust, cover-up, incompetence and unaccountability within the FBI must be dealt with by this administration at their earliest opportunity if they hope to win this war. 5. Stimulus. The House passed a economic stimulus package midweek. The tax-cut heavy Bill will roll back the Alternative Minimum Tax, capital gains taxes, accelerate the tax cuts passed earlier this year, and give additional tax breaks to businesses in an attempt to light the economic fire. Democrats were apoplectic, screaming bloody murder about tax cuts for the rich, big business, and bewailing the notion that the best way to get the economy moving again was to trigger job creation and business growth. The Bill now goes to Conference, where it will be reconciled with the Senate version. 6. Ramadan. Artificial issue of the week was the Islamic call to cease the military campaign during the upcoming Holy month of Ramadan. Note that warfare during Ramadan among Arabs is a regular occurrence, with no cessation of hostilities. Note also that the Arabs themselves are not respectful of any other Holy time for any other religion - Yom Kippur, for example. To his credit, SECDEF Rumsfeld refused to shut down operations during Ramadan. 7. Smokeless. The Tobacco Nazis last week took exactly one more life than all second hand smoke has taken, when a University of Arkansas student fell to his death from a fifth

THEY ARE ALL WORKING TOGETHER!! More substantiation of my COLLUSION THEORY OF WORLD DOMINATION. Brian Today I watched a copy of the Executive Summary video presentation by Dr Steven Greer, on the UFO Project Disclosure. Amongst the many, many military and intelligence personnel, was a scientist who worked extensively with Werner von Braun, the famous rocket scientist. In the 1970s, von Braun kept warning this co-worker, that the people who are able to keep UFOs and the spin-off technology secret have an agenda, as follows: Their goal is a space-based weapons system. To justify the existence of this system, a long-term agenda was laid out as follows. First, they will use the Russian as a threat to justify the need for a space-based weapons system. Then, they will use terrorism and a rogue-nation, as a threat to justify the need for a space-based weapons system. Then, they will use the danger of asteroids as a threat to justify the need for a space-based weapons system. Finally, they will use an alien threat as a threat to justify the need for a space-based weapons system. Werner told his co-worker that all this would come to pass, and in the later days, it would happen very fast. He stressed that all the scenarios being put forward were total lies. I mention this as the 'terrorism/rogue-nation' scenario has just been enacted. Given the extensive research available on satellite based mind-control, weather control, surveillance, eavesdropping technology, - I would say this is a believable scenario. In a very short period of time, while we are all squabbling about who is to blame, we may end up living in a totalitarian society, where our very thoughts are detected and read, and appropriate punishment is meted out - all from a satellite-based weapons system. They have the technology, they have the power, they only lack the final stages of implementing this space-based weapons system. I know you are all going to think I am nuts, but heck, Werner von Braun warned of this very same scenario, and I scoffed too. Just tuck it away at the back of your minds, and keep half an eye peeled for any info on what they are putting up there. best Duncan Duncan M. I know these people and the picture gradually being established is a false one. A pedophile is a person with a COMPULSION. The elite have no compulsions; they're too insubstantial. People like Dubya and Cheney simply have no morals of any kind whatsoever, they dont even understand the concept. Their (weak) compass and gyroscope is MONEY. What makes them formidable as a group is their Pavlovian loyalty to their caste as it is combined with their unifiorm and total lack of scruple or conscience. That's how it really is. I guess Rob wants me to tell you guys to oppose the oil lobby in the US parliament (see below). Brenda PS: I feel another song coming on (see bottom) Date sent: Fri, 02 Nov 2001 11:11:50 +1100 From: S.P [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject:[Fwd: Greens-Activist Biogems/Robert Redford Email] From Robert Redford: It is understandable that we Americans feel an almost reflexive need for unanimity in trying times like these. As a nation, we are rightly consumed with responding to the terrorist attacks on September 11th. But, at some point -- and I think we're beginning to get there -- we need to take a long-term view even as we are reacting to the current crisis. Really important domestic issues facing us before all of this happened -- education, energy and the environment, health care -- still have the same dimension and consequence. But we have to recognize that it's much more difficult to discuss and debate them in the aftermath of Sept. 11th. Unfortunately, disagreement is sometimes characterized as unpatriotic during times such as these and open, thoughtful discourse is somewhat muted. The gravity of the current situation is not lost on any of us and we all want to do what's right to insure our national security. It is with this in mind that I felt compelled to write you today. A handful of determined U.S. senators, encouraged by the White House, are arguing that national security requires the Senate to rush a pro-oil energy bill into law. They have vowed to hold up normal Senate business and attach the bill to every piece of legislation that comes to the Senate floor. So far they have failed in what The Boston Globe is calling oil opportunism. But with President Bush, himself, now calling for rushed passage of this disastrous bill, intense pressure is building on Senate leaders to succumb to the emotions of the moment. Using our national tragedy as an opportunity to advance the narrow interests of the oil lobby would not be in the best interest of the public. This bill, already passed by the House, would not only open the Arctic Refuge to oil rigs, it would also pave the way for energy companies to exploit and destroy pristine areas of Greater Yellowstone and other gems of our natural heritage. As important, it would do nothing to address energy security. I'm asking for your immediate help in stopping this legislation. After reading my letter I hope you'll take action at http://www.savebiogems.org/arctic/index.asp?src=ab0110a and then forward this letter to your friends and colleagues. Last spring, the Bush administration and some members of Congress said we had to pass the president's oil-friendly energy bill because we were facing the most serious energy crisis since 1973. But here we are, a mere six months later, and the energy crisis has vanished. Due to a slowing economy and falling demand, the prices for gasoline, natural gas and home heating oil have plunged. Meanwhile, the much- feared summer of blackouts in California never happened, largely because consumers and businesses made dramatic cuts in energy use by launching the most successful statewide conservation campaign in history. With no energy crisis to scare us with, the administration and pro-oil senators are now promoting their Drill the Arctic plan under the guise of national security and energy independence. Don't buy it. It would take ten years to bring Arctic oil to market, and when it arrives it would never equal more than two percent -- a mere drop in the bucket -- of all the oil we consume each year. Our nation simply doesn't have enough oil to drill our way to energy independence or even to affect world oil prices. We possess a mere 3 percent of the world's oil reserves, but we consume fully 25 percent of the world's oil supply. We could drill the Arctic Refuge, Greater Yellowstone, and every other wildland in America and we'd still be importing oil, still be paying worldwide prices for domestic oil, and still be vulnerable to wild gyrations in price and supply. As The Atlanta Constitution put it: Burning through our tiny oil supply faster will not make our country more secure. I'd go further: increasing our dependence on oil, whether that oil comes from the Persian Gulf or the Arctic Refuge, practically guarantees national *insecurity*. And we know that it will bring more habitat destruction, more oil spills, more air pollution, and more global warming. The public health implications will be devastating. If our nation wants to declare energy independence, then we have no choice but to reduce our appetite for oil. There's no other way. We need to rely on smarter and cleaner ways to power our economy. We have the technology right now to increase fuel economy standards to

X DRUDGE REPORT X SAT NOV 03, 2001 09:51:24 ET X MAG: 12 U.S. DELTA MEMBERS WOUNDED ON RAID OF OMAR'S COMPLEX, THREE SERIOUSLY; PENTAGON RETHINKS 'SPECIAL FORCES OPERATIONS' Seymour Hersh has filed yet another controversial report for coming editons of the NEW YORKER, publishing sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT. In ESCAPE AND EVASION, Hersh claims: In the wake of a near-disaster during the assault on Mullah Omar's complex during the early morning of October 20th, the Pentagon has been rethinking future Special Forces operations inside Afghanistan. MORE Delta Force, which prides itself on stealth, had been counterattacked by the Taliban, and some of the Americans had had to fight their way to safety. Hersh has filed his report for the November 12, 2001 issue of the NEW YORKER, on sale Monday. Twelve Delta members were wounded, three of them seriously. The intensity and ferocity of the Taliban response scared the crap out of everyone, a senior military officer tells Hersh. The Delta team stormed Mullah Omar's complex, but found little of value, Hersh reports, and then, as they came out of the house, the shit hit the fan, one senior officer says. It was like an ambush. The Taliban were fighting with light arms and either [rocket-propelled grenades] or mortars. The team immediately began taking casualties and evacuated. The Delta team was forced to abandon one of its objectives: the insertion of an undercover team into the area and the stay-behind soldiers fled to a previously determined rendezvous point, using a contingency plan known as an E. E., for escape and evasion, Hersh writes. MORE One Delta Force soldier told a colleague that military planners think we can perform fucking magic. We can't. Don't put us in an environment we weren't prepared for. Next time, we're going to lose a company. One military man reports that Delta Force officers were still outraged last week as after-action arguments over how best to wage a ground war continued. The Pentagon could not give details of what really happened near Kandahar because it doesn't want to appear that it doesn't know what it's doing. Another senior officer says, I don't know where the adult supervision for these operations is. Franks -- the general in charge of the U.S. Central Command -- is clueless. Speaking of Delta Force the officer adds, These guys have had a case of the ass since Mogadishu. They want to do it right and they train hard. Don't put them on something stupid. We'll get there, but it's going to get ugly. Officers also criticized the Army Rangers' sameday parachute jump into a Taliban-controlled airbase because it was a television show. The Rangers were not the first in -- an Army Pathfinder team had already confirmed that the area was clear of Taliban forces. One senior official Hersh spoke to acknowledged that there were serious problems in the war effort thus far, but said, It's like reading a six-hundred-page murder mystery. It's solved on the last few pages, but you have to read five hundred and ninety-eight pages to get there. Developing... From The Palm Beach Post, http://www.gopbi.com/partners/pbpost/epaper/editions/friday/news_b32ee455324fb164000c.html - Terrorism suspects' homes never tested for anthrax By Eliot Kleinberg, Palm Beach Post Staff Writer Friday, November 2, 2001 In the search for possible sources of the anthrax that killed a tabloid worker in Boca Raton and has been found at several Palm Beach County postal locations, left unchecked are the apartments and hotel rooms in South Florida where at least 12 of the 19 presumed Sept. 11 hijackers lived. The FBI did test for anthrax in some cars believed used by the hijackers, but not their residences, FBI spokeswoman Judy Orihuela said from Miami. Our investigation has been completed there, Orihuela said. We searched for evidence, but we did not test for anthrax. A spokeswoman for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it would have been the responsibility of the FBI to do any such testing. CDC was doing a public health investigation, Kathy Harben said from Atlanta. We were not involved. Federal officials have said they have not confirmed any links connecting the hijackers or the Al-Qaeda network or suspected terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden to the anthrax situation and have said it could be the work of domestic terrorists. But they have not ruled out bin Laden's involvement, with President Bush saying on Oct. 15, I wouldn't put it past him. The alleged hijackers have been dead more than six weeks and their temporary residences were combed by authorities and later rented out to others. Because of that, the public health concern is small, since someone who was exposed would have become sick by now, said Eric Croddy, senior research associate at the private Monterey Institute of International Studies. But he said testing might have provided critical evidence. That does seem odd, Croddy said from Monterey, Calif. They could probably do a quick swab and come to a conclusion pretty quickly. It would seem to be due diligence you would go ahead and do it anyway. Croddy said agents may already have strong evidence connecting or ruling out the men that they are not revealing or may have decided to focus on other angles in the rapidly changing deadly situation. This is the first I've learned of this, said U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Delray Beach, whose district includes places in the Delray Beach area where at least seven of the hijacking suspects lived, as well as the AMI building in Boca Raton, where the first anthrax case surfaced. My first call will be to ask them what the reasoning is, what's the justification, Wexler said from Washington. I hate to second-guess law enforcement experts, but it seems any logical analysis would require that everything that was a part of the hijackers' life, particularly their home, ought to be tested for anthrax. It's almost unfathomable. Wexler also wondered about a Delray Beach pharmacist's apparent encounter with suspected hijacker Mohamed Atta, who came in this summer with irritated hands. Wexler said he was almost tempted to spend his own money for the tests, adding, That unfortunately raises another question to me: What else has the FBI not done in terms of its investigation of the hijackers and their relationship to South Florida? U.S. Sen. Bob Graham will likely add the issue to a list of questions he has for intelligence committee oversight hearings on the attacks, spokesman Paul Anderson said. A Palm Beach County Health Department spokesman said officials aren't as concerned about the hijackers' homes as they are about the anthrax already found at the American Media Inc. building and other places. Our direction right now is the mail, Tim O'Connor said. They took a number of pieces of evidence from AMI as part of the criminal investigation. That's where they would do the tie-in, if you will, of where it came. And, he said, Our biggest concern is the bigger overall public health side of it and preventing any additional cases. Palm Beach County Sheriff's spokeswoman Diane Carhart said, We don't comment on other departments' procedures. Managers reached at some of the places where the hijackers lived in Broward and Palm Beach counties said they had not received, been alerted to, or asked for anthrax tests. At the Homing Inn, where Waleed and Wail Alshehri and Satam al-Suqami stayed for a month, owner Kirit Shah said no one tested the rooms, which were rented out to others as soon as the suspected hijackers left on July 26. He said he was not worried about anthrax. Two rental cars that Atta and Marwan Al-Shehhi rented from Warrick Rent-A-Car sat in the Pompano Beach firm's garage for a month before owner Brad Warrick noticed about a teaspoon of white powder in the trunk of one car earlier this week. As an ABC news crew shot video of the 1996 Chevy Corsica and a 1995 Ford Escort, Warrick opened the Escort's trunk and noticed the white powder, which Warrick said looks like laundry detergent. Everyone freaked
[CTRL] Fwd: [BIOWAR] Prescribing Cipro Is 'Uncontrolled Experiment'
From The Washington Post, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A32486-2001Nov2.html - Prescribing Cipro Is 'Uncontrolled Experiment' Health Officials Worry That Taking Drug for Anthrax May Have Serious Side Effects By Shankar Vedantam Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, November 3, 2001; Page A15 Fifteen months ago, spurred by fears that bioterrorists armed with lethal strains of bacteria could launch an attack on the United States and kill millions of people, the federal government took the unusual step of pressuring Bayer Corp. to rush a medicine called Cipro through the approval process for the treatment of anthrax. The older antibiotics penicillin and doxycycline were known to be effective against the disease, but there were fears that Russian scientists had engineered a strain of anthrax resistant to those drugs. Due to the rarity of the disease, Cipro had never been tested against anthrax in people. But based on its effectiveness against other bacteria and an animal study from 1993, regulators at the Food and Drug Administration designated Cipro the only medicine officially approved for inhalation anthrax. What regulators could not have known then -- and what has come true in the last three weeks -- is that the bioterrorist scare would unfold so differently from the worst-case scenario they had envisioned. The attack involved a strain of anthrax that was not bioengineered to be impervious to the other drugs, which are safer and cheaper. And the number of people exposed and sickened was far fewer than planners had feared. But when the public discovered that Cipro was the only approved medicine for inhalational anthrax, demand soared. Little attention was paid to the fact that the current strain of anthrax had not been bioengineered. And the 60-day course was accepted as proven even though no studies had demonstrated that was necessary for the kind of attack that actually occurred. The disparity between the imagined attack and the real one underscores the difficulty of formulating public health measures against little-known bioweapons, and the very real danger that some cures can cause more harm than the bioweapons themselves. For while the anthrax attack that has unfolded over the last three weeks has so far been much milder than the worst-case scenario, the consequences of over-aggressive treatment may not be mild at all. The full impact of large numbers of people being put on Cipro by doctors -- and even larger numbers taking the medicine on their own -- will not be known for weeks or months. But already, patients with other illnesses who desperately need Cipro have been deprived of the medicine, and patients around the country taking the drug have begun reporting such side effects as dizziness, headaches, nausea and achy joints. Concerns are mounting that overusing Cipro will spawn the growth of resistant microbes, rendering ineffective a drug considered to be a last resort when no other antibiotics work. We have never faced the mass use of an antibiotic for 60 days; there's no precedent for that in medicine, said William Hall, president of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Internal Medicine. We are conducting the world's largest uncontrolled experiment, including all these people and TV personalities, said Stephen Porter, a Tennessee pharmacologist who runs Virtual Drug Development Inc., a company that is trying to make an alternative medicine to Cipro. The studies that originally established the safety of Cipro involved regimens of seven to 10 days, according to Philip Hanna, an anthrax expert at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. When you start giving it for two months, that's a whole level of usage that hasn't been proven to be safe, he said. Leigh Thompson, a South Carolina physician, took Cipro for 21 days when he came down with an infection in Cambodia that he couldn't diagnose with certainty. He took 500-mg tablets, occasionally twice a day, for 21 days. His Achilles tendon became painfully inflamed -- damage to weight-bearing joints and tendons is a known side effect of Cipro's class of drugs. In clinical trials, the medicine has caused young dogs to become lame. I personally wouldn't take it prophylactically unless I knew I had big-time exposure, not if I had walked through a building where someone saw a white powder, said Thompson. About putting people prophylactically on 500-mg tablets of Cipro, twice a day for 60 days, he said, God, that would be insane. The 60-day recommendation, which was made at the FDA meeting in July last year, was among the measures designed for a worst-case scenario, where public health officials feared they would confront the specter of tens of thousands of deaths. Since no one had a good idea how long anthrax spores could incubate within the body before turning lethal -- the last known outbreak occurred in a remote part of Russia in 1979, where people continued to fall sick weeks after

Do the word hypocracy ring a bell? After all your bitching about Israel(i) and the Palestinians, you never bothered to mention Turkey and the Kurds. Why is that Prudy? There is hardly a comparison when defined by the real numbers. Yet somehow for you the plight of the Kurds is not as worthy. Is it because it doesn't give you the opportunity to safely go after Jews? I think so. Liberals don't have the balls to be outright racists, just subtle ones. Joshua2 Apparently you don't read all of my postings. I'll be glad to repost my response to you on this issue. Well, dear, some of my best friends are Kurds. That doesn't mean that Kurdistan is going to happen. Don't think for a moment they would be happy with a chunk of Turkey. They want a chunk of about four other countries as well. I lived in Diyarbakir for quite a while, and the Kurds are everywhere. Ataturk who loved the Kurds because they were such great fighters disbursed them all over Turkey. It was that or kill them, because they have a lot of power, and there's even more when they are all together in their particular families. The Turks never really understood the Kurds very well, but they have made a lot of concessions. The Kurds can now wear their own particular sharvlar, they can speak their language, and they can play their music. They did all these things before, but now they don't have to be careful about it. The Kurds get in their share of licks. One of our friends (Turkish) was a colonel in the Turkish military. His helicopter was brought down by Kurds and he was killed. The fight always goes on. And yet, the Kurds serve in the Turkish military, and they are very good soldiers for Turkey. I've always said that if you want to turn a Kurd into a Turk, scratch him with a Greek. The Turkish government is fighting some Kurds, not all of them. I wish I could remember the name of the group they are fighting, but it started in a local high school right there in Diyarbakir not too long before I lived there. The most tragic thing is what happens in some of the outlying villagers. If the government thinks they are helping the Kurds, the government arrests or kills them. If the Kurds think they are helping the government, the Kurds kill them. It's difficult, but the Kurds are wonderful people, and the Turks are wonderful people. And while the fight goes on, nobody bulldozes anyones house, keeps them from working at decent jobs, denies them medical care, or refuses to let them have real education. Amazing isn't it? "An official told me that my name had been flagged in the computer," a shaken Oden said. "I was targeted because the Green Party USA opposes the bombing of innocent civilians in Afghanistan." Oden, a long-time organic farmer and peace activist in northern Maine, was ordered away from the plane. Military personnel with automatic weapons surrounded Oden and instructed all airlines to deny her passage on ANY flight. Oden is scheduled to speak in Chicago Friday night on a panel concerning pesticides as weapons of war. She had helped to coordinate the Green Party USA's antiwar efforts these past few months, and was to report on these to The Greens national committee. "Not only did they stop me at the airport but some mysterious party had called the hotel and cancelled my reservation," Oden said. The Greens National Committee -- the governing body of the Green Party USA -- is meeting in Chicago Nov. 2-4 to hammer out the details of national campaigns against bio-chemical warfare, the spraying of toxic pesticides, genetic engineering, and the Party's involvement in the burgeoning peace movement. Subj:[the_octopus] Fw: [CIA-DRUGS] Star Wars Agenda Date: 11/3/01 10:46:06 AM Central Standard Time Today I watched a copy of the Executive Summary video presentation by Dr Steven Greer, on the UFO Project Disclosure. An official told me that my name had been flagged in the computer, a shaken Oden said. I was targeted because the Green Party USA opposes the bombing of innocent civilians in Afghanistan. Oden, a long-time organic farmer and peace activist in northern Maine, was ordered away from the plane. Military personnel with automatic weapons surrounded Oden and instructed all airlines to deny her passage on any flight. I was told that the airport was closed to me until further notice and that my ticket would not be refunded, Oden said. Oden is scheduled to speak in Chicago Friday night on a panel concerning pesticides as weapons of war. She had helped to coordinate the Green Party USA's antiwar efforts these past few months, and was to report on these to The Greens national committee. Not only did they stop me at the airport but some mysterious party had called the hotel and cancelled my reservation, Oden said. I am shocked that US military prevented one of our prominent Green Party members from attending the meeting in Chicago, said Elizabeth Fattah, a GPUSA representative from Pennsylvania who drove to Chicago. I am outraged at the way the Bill of Rights is being trampled upon. [CTRL] War Is Sell - Washington's Power Elite Are the Beneficiaries of War
http://www.americanfreepress.net/11_03_01/War_Is_Sell_-_Washington_s_Pow/war_is_sell_-_washington_s_pow.html War Is Sell - Washington's Power Elite Are the Beneficiaries of War The Bush family is getting financially fat off the "war on terrorism." Exclusive to American Free Press By Christopher Bollyn War has always been a profitable money machine for shrewd investors with foresight, but the extremely close connections of the Carlyle Group, a Washington-based private equity investment firm and major war profiteer, to the Bush and bin Laden families-and the current occupant of the White House-raise unavoidable questions of waging war for profit. Established in 1987 the Carlyle Group was founded by David Rubenstein, a former staff member in the Jimmy Carter White House, and his two partners, Dan D'Aniello and Bill Conway. Today there are 18 partners in the firm and one outside investor. The Washington Post has described Carlyle as a "merchant banking firm" set up "to serve corporations and wealthy families." From the beginning the founders of Carlyle have recruited former politicians as consultants: former President George H. W. Bush is among them-along with a host of other Bush family cronies. The Bush connection to the Carlyle Group is nothing short of a scandal, according to Larry Klayman, a notable government watchdog best known for pursuing the scandals of former President Bill Clinton. Now that the United States is bombing Afghanistan and allocating huge sums of money for defense, including $40 billion for the "war on terrorism" and more than $200 billion [1994 dollars] for the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), the conflict of interest is "direct," Klayman says. "President Bush should not ask but demand that his father pull out of the Carlyle Group." Carlyle owns many of the companies that will share in the $200 billion JSF deal. "Carlyle is as deeply wired into the current administration as they can possibly be," Charles Lewis, executive director of the Center for Public Integrity, said. "George Bush is getting money from private interests that have business before the government, while his son is president. And, in a really peculiar way, George W. Bush could, some day, benefit financially from his own administration's decisions, through his father's investments. The average American doesn't know that. To me, that's a jaw-dropper." The Carlyle Group, which claims to be the largest U.S. private-equity fund with some $14 billion in assets, makes money by investing in undervalued companies and reselling them at a profit, employing a host of former top-level government officials from the Bush and Reagan administrations, including former President Bush, in a global "money machine." The Washington Business Journal said in May that the Carlyle Group "seems to play by a different set of rules." Carlyle is a high-end business open only to the very rich. The Carlyle empire has investments around the world, owns numerous defense related companies outright, and has considerable business with the U.S. government. It owns so many companies that it is now one of the biggest U.S. defense contractors-and a major force in global telecommunications. Carlyle also serves as financial adviser to the Saudi government. Carlyle's directory reads like a Who's Who of high-profile Republicans going back to the Reagan administration. The chairman is Ronald Reagan's former defense secretary, Frank Carlucci. Former Secretary of State James Baker III, former Budget Director Richard Darman, and Arthur Levitt, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission through most of the Clinton administration, are all senior advisers to the firm. "Nothing in recent history, however, seems to approach the success this group has had in the wholesale conversion of former high government rank to gigantic profits," Dan K. Thomasson, former editor of Scripps Howard News Service wrote in March 2001. "To use that influence at the highest levels to garner such enormous wealth and power presents an undeniably unsavory appearance. "One of the underlying themes of the last election, rarely spoken but always present, was the need to restore dignity to the presidency. Now we discover that at the same time he was being held up as an example of how to be presidential, Bush senior was using his stature and entree everywhere to push the interests of himself and his cronies," Thomasson wrote. The success of the relatively young Carlyle Group is hardly surprising given that it primarily buys companies that are regulated by government. Nearly two-thirds of its investments are in defense and telecommunications companies, which are affected by shifts in government spending and policy. Financial experts say the Carlyle Group's most profitable niche is buying military and aerospace supplies at discount prices and selling them for a lot more. With Carlucci as chairman, it's no surprise that Carlyle is drawn to defense firms. Carlyle owns numerous
[CTRL] 'Anti-Terror' Legislation Undermines Constitution
http://www.americanfreepress.net/11_03_01/_Anti-Terror__Legislation_Unde/_anti-terror__legislation_unde.html 'Anti-Terror' Legislation Undermines Constitution Under the guise of fighting terrorism, Congress is stripping Americans of precious constitutional protections. Exclusive to American Free Press By Clayton Potts Terrorists are already accomplishing a major goal: under the banner of America's new "war," Congress is sending Big Brother into your home, your workplace and even into your personal life. The Senate gave final approval of the anti-terrorism measure Oct. 25 with a lone dissent by Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) a day after the House approved it 357-66. President Bush signed it the following day. Dissenting lawmakers said the legislation is so broad and vague that federal agents could prosecute Ameri cans for protesting NAFTA or the World Trade Or gan ization-an obvious prostrating of the First Amend ment's free speech protections. There was one significant victory that makes bad law just a little less bad: a provision to include the Internal Revenue Service into new "information-sharing" provisions was struck from the bill, Sen. Feingold's office said. This means, Feingold's spokesman said, the IRS can provide no information to the FBI, CIA or other federal agencies. Nor can the IRS obtain information from other agencies, the spokesman said. "There is no doubt that if we lived in a police state, it would be easier to catch terrorists," Feingold said in fighting the bill on the Senate floor. "If we lived in a country that allowed the police to search your home at any time for any reason, that allowed the government to open your mail, eavesdrop on your phone conversations, or intercept your email communications…that allowed the government to hold people in jail indefinitely based on what they write or think, or based on mere suspicion that they are up to no good, then the government would no doubt discover and arrest more terrorists," Feingold said. "But that probably would not be a country in which we would want to live," Feingold said. "And that would not be a country for which we could, in good conscience, ask our young people to fight and die for. In short, that would not be America." The new law contains significant changes in criminal procedure that will apply to every federal criminal investigation, not just those involving terrorism. The law greatly expands the circumstances in which law enforcement agencies can search homes and offices without first notifying the owner. "The longstanding practice under the Fourth Amendment of serving a warrant prior to executing a search could easily be avoided in virtually every case, because the government would simply have to show that it has 'reasonable cause to believe' that providing notice 'may' 'seriously jeopardize an investigation," Feingold said. Notice is a key Fourth Amendment protection because it allows a person to point out mistakes and to make sure the search is limited to the terms of the warrant. There are cases when lawmen have the wrong address on a warrant, for example. "If you're not at home, and police have permission to do a 'sneak and peek' search, they may come to your house, look around and leave and may never have to tell you," Feingold said. In an effort to fight computer crime, the law allows lawmen to monitor a computer with the permission of its owner or operator. That's fine insofar as helping to catch computer hackers or "trespassers." But a person at a school or library who stumbles onto a gambling or pornographic site in violation of the policies of the library or school "might also be subjected to government surveillance-without any probable cause and without any time limit," Feingold said. Also, if law enforcement suspects a purported terrorist is using a computer in a public place such as a library to access emails or the Internet, investigators can get permission to monitor that computer regardless of who is using it. CLOAK DAGGER COURT There is subtle mischief in a portion of the law that amends the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, or FISA. When passed in 1978, it granted government the power to conduct surveillance in foreign intelligence in ves ti gations without meeting the Fourth Amend ment's probable cause standard. The threshold was lowered because the government was not investigating a crime but investigating foreign intelligence activities. The law, in embracing a lower standard than required for criminal investigations, required that the primary purpose be intelligence gathering. The new law changes that standard. The government now will only have to show that intelligence is a "significant purpose" of the investigation. Thus, even if the primary purpose is a criminal investigation, the Fourth Amendment standard is dumped by calling intelligence gathering "significant." The law permits the government to compel the production of records from any business regarding any
[CTRL] Antiterrorism As A Cover For Terrorism
http://www.zmag.org/hermancover.htm ANTITERRORISM AS A COVER FOR TERRORISM By Edward S. Herman During the Cold War the United States supported a string of terror states, from the immediate post-World War backing given Thailand dictator Phibun Songkhram, "the first pro-Axis dictator to regain power after the war," to its support of Suharto, Marcos, Mobutu, Diem, Duvalier, Trujillo, Somoza, and a string of murderous military regimes in Latin America. This was all done on the rationale of needing to "stop Communism," but this excuse was used in cases where the threat was non-existent and laughable. In May 1954, just one month before the United States overthrew an elected government in Guatemala with a proxy army from dictator Somoza's territory in Nicaragua, the National Security Council issued a report on the threat of "Guatemalan Aggression in Latin America," and in a mode of panic described that tiny country as "increasingly an instrument of Soviet aggression in this hemisphere." Guatemala had not moved an inch outside its territory, was virtually disarmed by a U.S. boycott, and was quickly overthrown a month later. Did the NSC really believe their hysterical nonsense? Whether they did or not this was a wonderfully convenient ploy to deflect attention from the U.S. desire to dominate the hemisphere, and it was used regularly to create governments of terror that quickly opened their doors to foreign investment and kept labor markets as "flexible" as the transnationals and IMF might desire. Anticommunism was a superb rhetorical instrument for rationalizing U.S. support of convenient terrorism, and in the 1954 Guatemala case and regularly elsewhere the mainstream media helped make it work. There was some reaction to U.S. support of terror regimes in the Carter years in the 1970s, with a claim that this country should give a little more attention to "human rights." This new look never took hold, except in government rhetoric (and in the Carter years aid to Indonesia was stepped up as its attack on East Timor reached genocidal levels in 1977-1978, and relations with Marcos, the Brazilian generals and Mobutu remained solid). But with the coming of Reagan there was a famous turn-about: from our devotion to human rights we were going to turn our attention to "terrorism," announced Secretary of State Alexander Haig in 1981. It was alleged that the Soviet Union was behind a terror network, and in a book that became the bible of the Reagan administration, The Terror Network, Claire Sterling claimed a Soviet hand everywhere, from support of terrorists that threatened governments from Italy and Germany to Argentina and South Africa. The problem with this new look is that it focused only on retail terrorism--and selectively--and ignored state terrorism. It attended to the Red Brigades and Baader-Meinhof gang in Italy and Germany, but neglected the Cuban refugee terrorist network working out of Miami, Savimbi and Renamo in Angola and Mozambique, and the Nicaraguan contras--these were OUR terrorists, therefore "freedom fighters" or ignored. Even more important, Reagan supported Marcos, Suharto, the murderous governments of El Salvador and Argentina, and "constructively engaged" South Africa. These were premier state terrorists; South Africa, crossing its borders into the neighboring states and killing scores of thousands, was probably the leading terrorist state in the 1980s. Kaddafi's Libya was an insignificant terrorist state by comparison. Argentina, which Reagan rushed to embrace in 1981, was also a violent terrorist state, and in a report on the history of that regime sponsored by the Alfonsin government after the military government's ouster in 1984, it was stated that "the armed forces responded to the terrorists' crimes WITH A TERRORISM INFINITELY WORSE THAN THAT WHICH THEY WERE COMBATTING." But this had never registered in the U.S. mainstream media while that terrorism took place; they had always called the retail terrorists terrorists, but not the "infinitely worse" state terrorists. The Alfonsin report was given very little attention, and in a miracle of propaganda service the Reagan administration, supporting the world's worst terrorists, engaging in it directly by military actions in El Salvador and Nicaragua, and sponsoring terrorism by supporting the Nicaraguan contras and Savimbi in Angola (among others), was allowed to be fighting terrorism! So coming to George W. Bush's new dedication to fighting terrorism, we are in familiar territory. The rule is that terrorism is what the U.S. government says it is--if it or its allies or clients do precisely the same thing as the named terrorists, that is not terrorism, by rule of affiliation. Thus, if we bombed Serbian civilian facilities to intimidate that population, killing many hundreds, that cannot be terrorism because we did it. It isn't put this crudely of course, it is merely understood, a silent double standard, just as it is tacitly
[CTRL] ACTIVISTS AND SPOOKS
http://www.xs4all.nl/~felipe/articles/infiltration_lecture.htm ACTIVISTS AND SPOOKS about covert activities against activist groups (c) Felipe Rodriquez - 27 September 2001 With special thanks to Eveline Lubbers for her insightful comments and inspiration for this article and in general. . INTRODUCTION Activists worldwide are scrutinized by government agencies and corporate intelligence activities. Numerous organizations have been the object of surveillance and infiltration. These organizations include activist groups that advocate sabotage and violence. But most are peaceful organizations that do not advocate violence. Organizations around the world that have been targets of government surveillance and infiltration include Greenpeace and Amnesty International. Other groups include gay and lesbian rights organizations, socialist and Communist organizations, environmental groups, animal rights groups, middle east organizations, unions, peace activist organizations and human rights groups [1]. Western world intelligence organizations work on the basis of a counter insurgency model developed by British intelligence expert Frank Kitson. In his book, Low Intensity Operations he defines various stages of development of political organizations. He advices that the primary work of an intelligence agency should occur in the earliest phase of the creation of an organization, when the it is small and vulnerable. It outlines the necessity for continuous covert operations, insisting that infiltration and "psychological operations" be mounted against dissident groups in "normal times," before any mass movement can develop. [2] Officially the primary functions of government intelligence activities consist of giving information and warning of potentially hostile political plans of organizations, and the research and analysis of that information. Unofficially it includes the manipulation of organizations and people, in order to disrupt, weaken, compromise and control them. There is a need for activist groups to be concerned with surveillance and infiltration: governments and corporations observe, and sometimes manipulate, these groups to discover what they know, who their sources are, and what their future activities will be. One word of warning; you should not let this lecture make you feel too paranoid; governments have limited resources, and therefore they are unlikely to use many of the techniques that I will mention in this lecture if you are not an important suspect to them. WHO ARE THE SPOOKS ? Organizations involved in infiltration and surveillance activities include police organizations, local and foreign human intelligence organizations, local and foreign signal intelligence organizations and global corporations. A large US based religion, The Church of Scientology, has also been accused numerous times of infiltration and surveillance activities, apparently to weaken and destroy their perceived enemies. A large number of government infiltrations of activist groups have been reported worldwide. An example is reported infiltration and surveillance activity by the Victorian police Operations Intelligence Unit, in Australia, in the early nineties. This unit monitored 316 organizations and had files on more than 700 people in the state of Victoria [1]. Exceptional about this was not the amount of organizations and individuals that where monitored, but the fact that these covert activities where exposed. Similar activities by police forces and intelligence organizations happen around the world, but remain covert. Often we only get to see single pieces of the intelligence puzzle. Some of the examples of puzzle pieces that where found are: - the infiltration into the US organization 'Students for Economic Justice' [3] -undercover police activities during protests [4] - failed attempts to recruit informers [5] -informants or agents that have been discovered and volunteered information about their previous covert activities. Such activities need not be limited to domestic government agencies. In the early 90s a US agency tried to infiltrate a hacker group in the Netherlands by setting up a hackers bulletin board to lure and entrap hackers. He created multiple personalities on his bulletin board to create an impression that there was genuine activity and communication going on. But in reality he was trying to extract information from Dutch hackers about their activities, and possibly try to infiltrate those hacker groups. The operator of this bulletin board later turned out to be an employee at the US embassy in The Hague. In 1995 he was fired by the US embassy because he had become a security threat, and in 1996 he started posting elaborate stories about his intelligence activities [6] for the CIA. Various corporations have also engaged in surveillance and infiltration activities. And they do not only spy on their competitors. Activities against activist groups have been reported. Such

May be copied and distributed for non-profit purposes only.] FTW, November 2, 2001 – 1200 PST -- On October 31, the French daily Le Figaro dropped a bombshell. While in a Dubai hospital receiving treatment for a chronic kidney infection last July, Osama bin Laden met with a top CIA official - presumably the Chief of Station. The meeting, held in bin Laden’s private suite, took place at the American hospital in Dubai at a time when he was a wanted fugitive for the bombings of two U.S. embassies and this year’s attack on the U.S.S. Cole. Bin Laden was eligible for execution according to a 2000 intelligence finding issued by President Bill Clinton before leaving office in January. Yet on July 14th he was allowed to leave Dubai on a private jet and there were no Navy fighters waiting to force him down. In 1985 Oliver North – the only member of the Reagan-Bush years who doesn’t appear to have a hand in the current war - sent the Navy and commandos after terrorists on the cruise ship Achille Lauro. In his 1991 autobiography “Under Fire,” while describing terrorist Abu Abbas, North wrote, “I used to wonder: how many dead Americans will it take before we do something?” One could look at the number of Americans Osama bin Laden is alleged to have killed before September 11 and ask the same question. It gets worse, much worse. A more complete timeline listing crucial events both before and after the September 11th suicide attacks, which have been blamed on bin Laden, establishes CIA foreknowledge of them and strongly suggests that there was criminal complicity on the part of the U.S. government in their execution. It also makes clear that the events which have taken place since September 11th are based upon an agenda that has little to do with the attacks. One wonders how these events could have been ignored by the major media or treated as isolated incidents. Failing that, how could skilled news agencies avoid being outraged, or at least even just a little suspicious? 1998 and 2000 - Former President George H.W. Bush travels to Saudi Arabia on behalf of the privately owned Carlyle Group, the 11th largest defense contractor in the U.S. While there he meets privately with the Saudi royal family and the bin Laden family. Even if this indicates that bin Laden changed systems in February it does not mesh with the fact that the government insists that the attacks had been planned for years. May 2001 – Secretary of State Colin Powell gives $43 million in aid to the Taliban regime, purportedly to assist hungry farmers who are starving since the destruction of their opium crop in January on orders of the Taliban regime. [Source: The Los Angeles Times, May 22, 2001]. May, 2001 – Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, a career covert operative and former Navy Seal, travels to India on a publicized tour while CIA Director George Tenet makes a quiet visit to Pakistan to meet with Pakistani leader General Pervez Musharraf. Armitage has long and deep Pakistani intelligence connections and he is the recipient of the highest civil decoration awarded by Pakistan. It would be reasonable to assume that while in Islamabad, Tenet, in what was described as “an unusually long meeting,” also met with his Pakistani counterpart, Lt. General Mahmud Ahmad, head of the ISI. [Source The Indian SAPRA news agency, May 22, 2001.] July, 2001 – Three American officials: Tom Simmons (former U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan), Karl Inderfurth (former Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian affairs) and Lee Coldren (former State Department expert on South Asia), meet with Taliban representatives in Berlin and tell them that the U.S. is planning military strikes against Afghanistan in October. Also present are Russian and German intelligence officers who confirm the threat. [CTRL] Op-Ed Echo Chamber:Little space for dissent to the military line
http://www.fair.org/activism/nyt-wp-opeds.html ACTION ALERT: Op-Ed Echo Chamber: Little space for dissent to the military line November 2, 2001 During the weeks following September's terrorist attacks, two leading dailies used their op-ed pages as an echo chamber for the government's official policy of military response, mostly ignoring dissenters and policy critics. A FAIR survey of the New York Times and the Washington Post op-ed pages for the three weeks following the attacks (9/12/01 - 10/2/01) found that columns calling for or assuming a military response to the attacks were given a great deal of space, while opinions urging diplomatic and international law approaches as an alternative to military action were nearly non-existent. We counted a total of 44 columns in the Times and Post that clearly stressed a military response, against only two columns stressing non-military solutions. (Though virtually every op-ed in both papers dealt in some way with September 11, most did not deal specifically with how to respond to the attacks, with many focusing on economics, rebuilding, New York's Rudolph Giuliani, etc. During the period surveyed, the Post ran a total of 105 op-ed columns, the Times ran 79.) Overall, the Post was more militaristic, running at least 32 columns urging military action, compared to 12 in the Times. But the Post also provided the only two columns we could find in the first three weeks after September 11 that argued for non-military responses; the Times had no such columns. Both dissenting columns were written by guest writers. The Times' and Post's in-house columnists provided the bulk of the pro-war commentary. Two-thirds of the Times columns urging military action were written in-house, as were more than half of the Post's pro-war columns. This may say something about which journalists are singled out for promotion to the prestigious position of columnist. In addition, both op-ed pages showed a striking gender imbalance. Of the 107 op-ed writers at the Post, only seven were women. Proportionally, the Times did slightly better, with eight female writers out of 79. When critics argue that U.S. news media have a duty to provide a broad debate on war, a common response is to ask why-- after all, isn't there a political and popular consensus in favor of war? Perhaps, but there's reason to believe that the extent and nature of that consensus has been overstated and distorted. In polls that offered a choice between a military response or nothing, it's true that overwhelming majorities chose war. But given the choice between a either military assault or pressing for the extradition and trial of those responsible (Christian Science Monitor, 9/27/01), a substantial minority either chose extradition (30 percent) or were undecided (16 percent). These people had next to no representation in the op-ed debate; in fact, it's likely that many people asked to choose whether or not to go to war had never seen an alternative to war articulated in a mainstream outlet. There is also a little-acknowledged gender gap in poll responses about military action, a fact that lends new significance to the gender imbalance in Washington Post and New York Times op-eds. In the final two paragraphs of a 1,395-word story titled "Public Unyielding in War Against Terror " (9/29/01), the Washington Post pointed out that women "were significantly less likely to support a long and costly war." According to the Post, while 44 percent of women would support a broad military effort, "48 percent said they want a limited strike or no military action at all." Similarly, a CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll (Gallup.com, 10/5/01) showed that 64 percent of men think the U.S. "should mount a long-term war," while 24 percent favored limiting retaliation to punishing the specific groups responsible for the attacks. In contrast, "women are evenly divided-- with 42 percent favoring each option." Noting that "women's support for war is much more conditional than that of men," Gallup reports that though 88 percent of women favored taking retaliatory military action, that number dropped to 55 percent if 1,000 American troops would be killed (76 percent of men would support a war under these circumstances). Of course, gender equity on the op-ed pages would not guarantee proportional representation for dissenters-- some of the most virulently pro-war and anti-Muslim columns have been written by female commentators (e.g., Mona Charen, who called for mass expulsions based on ethnicity-- Washington Times, 10/18/01). But given the gender differences suggested by polling, more women on the op-ed pages might well give the lie to the conventional wisdom that all Americans have no-holds-barred enthusiasm for an open-ended war. Even, however, if one accepts the idea that the public overwhelmingly favors war, the task of journalism is to remain independent and to ask tough questions of policy makers. After all, American history includes many

By MIKE ANTON TIMES STAFF WRITER October 29 2001 HOUSTON -- Vanessa Leggett is a reporter who, until she was thrown in jail, had never published a story, a writer of true-crime books who has never finished one. Yet, with each day she sits in an 8-by-10 cell at the Federal Detention Center here for refusing to give a federal grand jury her research into a notorious society murder, Leggett becomes more famous as a journalism cause celebre, her case one for the record books--and future legal textbooks. It's absolutely boring. I read. I write letters. Done a lot of thinking, said Leggett, 33, who has been in jail 100 days. I am just a writer who has realized that there is something much larger at stake than herself. I t's freedom of expression in America. Leggett's case has garnered widespread support from free press advocates. The Inter American Press Assn. has compared her to a Cuban journalist jailed by Fidel Castro. The Society of Professional Journalists is paying half her legal bill. The grand jury ordered Leggett to turn over copies of all tape recordings and transcripts connected with the murder--a broad request that's rarely applied to journalists, experts say. The legal issue in Leggett's case is clear: Does the 1st Amendment allow journalists to withhold information from a federal grand jury? Leggett is fighting an uphill battle, because courts have rarely, if ever, extended s uch a privilege. What muddies the story of Leggett's imprisonment is whether she is a journalist at all--and whether federal prosecutors, who maintain the aspiring author is not a journalist, would have taken on a reporter working for a n ews organization with as much zeal. The last time the U.S. Justice Department had a reporter jailed was in 1991. I'm flabbergasted, said Lucy Dalglish, executive director for the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, which has assisted Leggett. I don't think [prosecutors] would do it this way if they were dealing with the New York Times, or even the Houston Chronicle. Leggett's jail stint is just the latest twist in the 1997 murder of Doris Angleton, who was shot a dozen times in her River Oaks mansion. Her husband, Robert, an alleged bookie to the rich turned police informant, was acc used of hiring his brother, Roger, to murder Doris because she sought a divorce. It was, Texas columnist Molly Ivins has written, one of those high-profile, rich white trash cases for which Texas is famous. Leggett was introduced to Roger Angleton by his attorney. She interviewed the murder suspect numerous times and tape recorded more than 40 hours of those conversations. This case was a gold mine for me, Leggett said. I'm intrigued by murders that are committed by more than one person in a conspiracy style, and murders that involve family. Before he came to trial, Roger Angleton killed himself in jail, leaving behind a note confessing to the murder and absolving his brother. State prosecutors subpoenaed copies of Leggett's tapes. She resisted, claiming a jo urnalist's privilege, but after negotiating with authorities, she complied. Her tapes were never used in the trial of Robert Angleton, who was found not guilty by a jury. There was nothing in there that was earth-shattering, said assistant Dist. Atty. Lyn McClellan. The FBI then began investigating Robert Angleton, reportedly for racketeering. Late last year, Leggett says, agents approached her about working as an informant. She refused and was called to testify before the federal gr and jury. They came to me knowing that I was working on a book, Leggett said. They wanted to use that to their advantage because I could go places where they couldn't. I had been places that they hadn't been and couldn't go beca use Roger was dead. In June, the grand jury subpoenaed her again. Leggett was ordered to hand over all her material, including interviews with 34 people, many of whom are law enforcement officials investigating Angleton, her lawyer says. Whe n she didn't comply, a federal district judge had her jailed for contempt. That ruling, upheld by the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, could keep her in jail until Jan. 7, when the grand jury's term expires. Leggett took an unconventional path to becoming an icon to free-press advocates. The Texas native worked as a paralegal, a licensed private investigator and a part-time instructor of English and criminal justice before tu rning her attention to writing books. She put aside a project on another high-profile Texas murder case to take on the killing of Doris Angleton. She is an impressive individual . . . articulate and intelligent, said Rex White, director of the
[CTRL] 13 Questions For Bush
http://www.gadflyonline.com/10-22-01/comm-bush.html THIRTEEN QUESTIONS FOR PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH DOUBT ABOUT AMERICA'S ANTI-TERRORISM CRUSADE By Martin A. Lee Mainstream journalists in the United States often function more like a fourth branch of government than a feisty fourth estate. If anything, the patterns of media bias that characterize sycophantic reporting in "peacetime" are amplified during a war or a national security crisis. Since the tragic events of September 11, the separation between press and state has dwindled nearly to the vanishing point. If we had an aggressive, independent press corps, our national conversation about the terrorist attacks that demolished the World Trade Center towers in New York and damaged the Pentagon would be far more probing and informative. Here are some examples of questions that reporters ought to be asking President Bush: 1. Before the attacks in New York and Washington, your administration quietly tolerated Saudi Arabian and Pakistani military and financial aid for the Taliban regime, even though it harbored terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden. But now you say fighting terrorism will be the main focus of your administration. By making counter-terrorism the top priority in bilateral relations, aren't you signaling to abusive governments in Sudan, Indonesia, Turkey and elsewhere that they need not worry much about their human rights performance as long as they join America's anti-terrorist crusade? Will you barter human rights violations like corporations trade pollution credits? Will you condone, for example, the brutalization of Chechnya in exchange for Russian participation in the "war against terrorism"? Or will you send a message loud and clear to America's allies that they must not use the fight against terrorism as a cover for waging repressive campaigns that smother democratic aspirations in their own countries? 2. Terrorists finance their operations by laundering money through offshore banks and other hot money outlets. Yet your administration has undermined international efforts to crack down on tax havens. Last May, you withdrew support for a comprehensive initiative launched by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which sought greater transparency in tax and banking practices. In the wake of the September 11 massacre, will you reassess this decision and support the OECD proposal, even if it means displeasing wealthy Americans and campaign contributors who avoid paying taxes by hiding money in offshore accounts? 3. Four months ago, U.S. officials announced that Washington was giving $43 million to the Taliban for its role in reducing the cultivation of opium poppies, despite the Taliban's heinous human rights record and its sheltering of Islamic terrorists of many nationalities. Doesn't this make the U.S. government guilty of supporting a country that harbors terrorists? Do you think your obsession with the "war on drugs" has distorted U.S. foreign policy in Southwest Asia and other regions? 4. According to U.S., German and Russian intelligence sources, Osama bin Laden's operatives have been trying to acquire enriched uranium and other weapons-grade radioactive materials for a nuclear bomb. There are reports that in 1993 bin Laden's well-financed organization tried to buy enriched uranium from poorly maintained Russian facilities that lacked sufficient controls. Why has your administration proposed cutting funds for a program to help safeguard nuclear materials in the former Soviet Union? 5. On September 23rd, you announced plans to make public a detailed analysis of the evidence gathered by U.S intelligence and police agencies that proves Osama bin Laden and his cohorts are guilty of the terrorist attacks in New York and the Pentagon. But the next day your administration backpedaled. "As we look through [the evidence]," explained Secretary of State Colin Powell, "we can find areas that are unclassified and it will allow us to share this information with the public. But most of it is classified." Please explain this sudden flip-flop. How can we believe what you say about fighting terrorism if your administration can't make its case publicly with sufficient evidence? How do you expect to win the support of governments and people who otherwise might suspect Washington's motives, particularly some Muslim and Arab nations? 6. Exactly who is a terrorist, and who is not? When the CIA was busy doling out an estimated $2 billion to support the Afghan mujahadeen in the 1980s, Osama bin Laden and his colleagues were hailed as anti-communist freedom fighters. During the cold war, U.S. national security strategists, many of whom are riding top saddle once again in your administration, didn't view bin Laden's fanatical religious beliefs as diametrically opposed to western civilization. But now bin Laden and his ilk are unabashed terrorists. Definitions of what constitutes terror and terrorism seem to change with the
[CTRL] THE ENEMY IS INSIDE THE GATES....
http://www.davidicke.com/icke/index1c.html THE ENEMY IS INSIDE THE GATES "CIVILIAN AND MILITARY PILOTS 911 MUST HAVE BEEN PLANNED WITHIN THE US GOVERNMENT. by Donn de Grand A veteran of over 100 sorties over North Vietnam says: "Those birds (commercial airliners) either had a crack fighter pilot in the left seat, or they were being maneuvered by remote control." by Donn de Grand Pré Oct. 23, 2001 A dedicated group of experienced civilian and military pilots, including combat fighter pilots and commercial airline captains, just finished a marathon 72 hours of non-stop briefings and debate over the current crisis evolving from the use of commercial aircraft as cruise missiles against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on 11 September. The so-called terrorist attack was in fact a superbly executed military operation against the United States, requiring the utmost professional military skill in command, communications and control. It was flawless in timing, in the choice of selected aircraft to be used as guided missiles, and in the coordinated delivery of those missiles to their pre-selected targets. As a tactical military exercise against two significant targets (world financial center and the citadel of world strategic military planning), the attack, from a psychological impact on the American public, equaled the Japanese "surprise" attack on Pearl Harbor 7 Dec 1941. The over-riding question: If we are at war, who is the enemy? The group determined that the enemy is within the gates, that he has infiltrated into the highest policy-making positions at the Federal level, and has absolute control, not only of the purse strings, but of the troop build-up and deployment of our military forces, including active, reserve and National Guard units. PRELUDE TO PANIC The 9-11 activity and horrific destruction of US property and lives was intentionally meant to trigger a psychological and patriotic reaction on the part of the US citizens, which is paving the way for "combined UN activity" (using the fig leaf of NATO) for striking key targets in both the Middle East/ South Asia and the Balkans. The goal continues to be ultimate destruction of all national sovereignty and establishment of a global government. The trigger for the 9-11 activity was the imminent and unstoppable world-wide financial collapse, which can only be prevented (temporarily) by a major war, perhaps to become known as WW 111. To bring it off (one more time), martial law will probably be imposed in the United States. In each of the major wars of the 20th century, the financial manipulators (located in the City of London and New York City) had placed the US (and much of the Western world) in a monetary expansion mode, followed by an ever-tightening vice of a gigantic credit squeeze. We now have two ongoing and tightly controlled simultaneous events (emanating from the two symbolic targets of 911: 1) Alan Greenspan, Fed chairman, promising to flood the market with up to $200 billion in FRNs and to further lower interest rates, thus bringing about hyperinflation and dollar devaluation. Much of these multi billions in largesse will be dumped into the coffers of Wall Street, Defense, bankrupt airlines, insurance companies and into the willing arms of debt-ridden third-world countries in the form of debt repudiation (forgiveness). Call it bribery, in order to get these often reluctant nations to join our coalition of "freedom fighters" in "the war against terrorism". 2) Paul Wolfowitz, deputy Defense secretary, promised that the US will launch "sustained military strikes against those behind the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington". He said that the "military retaliation would continue until the roots of terrorism are destroyed." This bit of saber rattling was seconded by select NATO allies (especially Britain), and by our chief ally in the Middle East, the Butcher of Beirut, Ariel Sharon, while Secretary of Defense Don Rumsfeld, with the blessings of Pres. Bush 11, is activating thousands of national guard and reservists, not only to guard the vulnerable airports, but to do fly-overs of our Nation's capital in F16s from the North Dakota Air Guard. Other National Guard units are being jockeyed into potential combat "hot spots" throughout the Middle East/South Asia and the Balkans. WHO IS THE ENEMY? Following is a summary of the near-unanimous views of the assembled military and civilian pilots concerning certain critical factors relating to the WTC/Pentagon hit of 9-11: Troubling questions arose about the alleged pilot-hijackers of the four aircraft, who were supposedly trained on Cessna aircraft over the past year at fields in Florida and Oklahoma. One General officer remarked, "I seriously question whether these novices could have located a target dead-on 200 miles removed from takeoff point...-- much less controlled the flight and mastered the intricacies of 11FR (instrument flight rules) -- and all accomplished in

And Palestinians wouldnt be happy with just the West Bank and Jordan, they want THE chunk of Israel as well. Of course that's all understandable because Israel USED to be Palestine, and the chunks that the Kurds want USED to be Kurdistan. Then the fucking Europeans invented a whole new world for all these people and there have been tribal wars ever since. I lived in Diyarbakir for quite a while, and the Kurds are everywhere. Ataturk who loved the Kurds because they were such great fighters disbursed them all over Turkey. It was that or kill them, because they have a lot of power, and there's even more when they are all together in their particular families. And that's OK because the Turks are not Jews. Right? The Turks never really understood the Kurds very well, but they have made a lot of concessions. The Kurds can now wear their own particular sharvlar, they can speak their language, and they can play their music. That's really Liberal of them. And the Druse ( Arabs ) seve in the Israeli military and are great soldiers for Israel. But at least they don't knock down their haouses. If the Kurds think they are helping the government, the Kurds kill them. It's difficult, but the Kurds are wonderful people, and the Turks are wonderful people. You are an atonishing hypocrite. And a racist. And while the fight goes on, nobody bulldozes anyones house, keeps them from working at decent jobs, denies them medical care, or refuses to let them have real education. Amazing isn't it? Prudy Not amazing. Just bullshit. I'm REALLY glad we had this chat publically. Thanks for proving my point. After the attacks of 911, Air Force One took off from Florida and was diverted to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. It remained on the ground while the FAA cleared the skies of all aircraft, for the first time in U.S. history. With all civilian planes on the ground, Air Force One flew to an Air Force Base in Omaha Nebraska. It's flightpath was kept safely away from Washington DC and New York airspace. It landed at Omaha and the President was taken to the Command Bunker. This gave whatever Secret Government Agencies (NSA, DARPA, etc) time to close the back door to the onboard Flight and Navigation computer which is coupled to the Auto Pilot. Once this secret back door was closed, it was safe for Air Force One to proceed to DC. Had the back door not been closed, control of Air Force One could have been taken over remotely via HOMERUN or GOLDEN HAWK or whatever they call this system. Think what the national reaction would have been, if Air Force One had been crashed into the White House or the Capital Building. The national shock which occurred on 911 would have been considerably worse. Something else is also explained. Why was Reagan Regional Airport in DC kept closed until October 4thnearly a month after the attacks? And why, when it was finally reopened, were certain types of airliners forbidden to operate from Reagan Airport. You can go on the Reagan website and read the Restrictions. No airliners with more than 156 seats are allowed there. It is the larger and more modern airliners which have the latest flight control computers and auto-landing systems. These are the aircraft which are banned from the skies around Washington DC. In case anyone reading this thinks this is science fiction...you should know the Navy has had the technology for hands off carrier landings for at least 25 years. The last part technology needed to make HOMERUN (ironically intended to be an anti-hijacking system) a reality was the GPS navigation system. With GPS you can navigate a properly equipped airplane to within a few yards of any given spot on earth. On 911, that spot was the World Trade Center. Nakano __ Do You Yahoo!? [CTRL] U.S. Responsibility and the Pro-Zionist Lobby
http://disc.server.com/Indices/149495.html Justin Rhodes U.S. Responsibility and the Pro-Zionist Lobby Sat Nov 3 12:42:31 2001 U.S. Responsibility and the Pro-Zionist Lobby by Justin Rhodes Approximately one year ago, presidential hopeful Al Gore stood before the participants at the annual Policy Conference organized by the pro-Zionist American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Gore told the audience about a bizarre meeting that had occurred several decades earlier between Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, and the then-U.S. ambassador, Ogden Reid. Apparently, the ambassador walked into Ben-Gurion’s office and on finding the prime minister standing on his head, decided to follow suit. What’s the moral of this tale? According to Gore: “Even if the world is turned upside down, the United States and Israel will see eye to eye.” Gore’s obsequious words are painfully clear today. The world has been turned upside down in the Occupied Territories, and the U.S. and Israeli governments are in complete agreement that the Palestinians are to blame, which was aptly demonstrated during a recent news conference in which President Bush proclaimed, “The signal to the Palestinians is to stop the violence. I can’t make it any more clear.” The fact that Israel’s colonial occupation has continued for more than three decades is irrelevant to the president. Instead, he seems intent on propagating the “Palestinian equals violence” doctrine, which is vital to Israel’s public relations campaign. Of course the Bush administration’s support for Israel is more than just verbal. The president will continue to push for economic and military aid to Israel, which has been estimated between $3 and $5.5 billion per year. I’ve seen countless examples of how this military aid has been used to terrorize innocent people. On one occasion, while in the Palestinian town of Beit Jala, I visited an apartment complex owned and inhabited by three brothers and their families--a total of twenty-five people; it had been hit by three rockets, destroying a kitchen, a bathroom, and part of the building’s foundation. An elderly man showed us the remains of one rocket, on which we found the following inscription: “Made in the U.S.A.” Furthermore, President Bush will steadfastly uphold the U.S. tradition of giving Israel diplo matic support; this was recently illustrated when the U.S. vetoed a UN resolution that would have allowed an unarmed international observer force into the Occupied Territories. Currently the U.S. is using its diplomatic muscle to make sure that Zionism is not discussed during the UN’s World Conference on Racism in August. However, if it is discussed, the U.S. has threatened to boycott the conference. A U.S. State Department official explained his country’s reasoning to the Toronto Globe Mail: “There have been two previous conferences on racism [in 1978 and 1983] and we didn’t go to those because they were about Zionism being a form of racism and about the apartheid regime in South Africa, exclusively. They were country-specific polemic-fests, that’s what they were foreseen to be and that’s what they turned out to be.” He then promised that the U.S. would attend if, and only if, the conference addressed racism as a “world-wide phenomenon” and not as a country-specific issue. Let me attempt to translate what he just said: “We boycotted the other conferences because we had good relations with the Zionist regime in Israel and the apartheid regime in South Africa, and by condemning them we would have been condemning ourselves. We will attend this year’s conference as long as it doesn’t vilify our ally, Israel, and as long as we speak about racism in an abstract and irrelevant manner.” Essentially, Israel’s 34-year occupation has nothing to fear from the current U.S. government. Israel will continue to expropriate Palestinian land, demolish Palestinians’ homes, build and expand settlements and bypass roads, and isolate and suffocate the Palestinians in their reservations, I mean, cities. The U.S. will respond to these colonial policies with meaningless rhetoric or silence. Regarding the United States’ actions during this conflict, one thing is certain: its vociferous support for Israel and its indifference in the face of Palestinian suffering are a direct result of an ideological occupation that has gripped the U.S. government. This occupation is based on the internalization of Israel’s arguments vis-a-vis the current conflict, and if its institutions are not challenged, then the lifeblood of the Israeli occupation of Palestine--U.S. economic, military, and diplomatic support--will continue to flow freely. The success of this ideological occupation is partly the result of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), considered one of the top five most influential lobbying organizations in the United States. As Bill Clinton once said, “AIPAC has done a magnificent job, better than anybody else

[CTRL] Unindicted Perp Larry Summers on Public Service
http://www.conspiracyplanet.com/index.cfm Unindicted Perp Larry Summers on "Public Service" by LARRY SUMMERS (Editor's note: Bilderberger Larry Summers, former US Treasury Secretary, has been very busy. He presided over the looting of the former Soviet Union, as well as the looting of HUD($59 Billion Missing)and the US Treasury, over $3 Trillion and counting. He was also able to rig defaulted HUD loan sales for his cronies at Harvard (Bushwhacked) but now, he just can't help gushing about "patriotism" and "public service." As the President of Harvard University, a drug money laundering slush fund cleverly disguised as a non-profit educational institution, illuminati gofer Larry Summers continues to fail upward -- and even manages to pat himself on the back for his unindicted crimes as a "public servant." For the real story, click here Crimes of Harvard This speech by Larry Summers was delivered at dinner for the John F.Kennedy School of Government's annual Public Service Awards) ** I want to join in the celebration of those we honor tonight. When you honor people, you are of course giving a form of recognition to the people being honored. But in a very real sense, it is the rest of us who are being honored by their presence and by their participation. And it is surely that way with the five people we honor tonight. It is also true that honors and awards like these not only recognize individual excellence, and surely we do that tonight, but recognize the examples set by the people being honored, here in the value we attach to the activity of public service. And I know I speak for all who are honored tonight in saying that as we celebrate their public service, we celebrate the public service of the millions of people who are proud to be able to say that they work for the government of the United States of America, or for the government of one of its several states. We all know that the success of our country as a nation in the world depends in part on those who get their pictures taken. But it depends equally on those who clean their offices. It depends on those who give speeches about health care, and it also depends on those who give blood in VA hospitals. It depends on those who think about and conceptualize the contours of relations between nations, but it depends equally or more on those who fight for our country. And so what we are celebrating tonight is the service of five extraordinary individuals, but even more we are celebrating the activity of public service. Now when [Kennedy School dean] Joe Nye planned this event, we could have expected that we would speak much about the importance of public service, that we would speak of how the nation needed to attract the most capable and able people into public service. We would speak of the large number of retirements that the federal government and many state and local governments can expect in the next decade or two. We would speak about the importance of the tasks before the public sector, whether in keeping the peace or advancing science or helping the weakest in our society. And all of that is true and right. But all of that has now been magnified and, I believe, altered by the events of September 11, and by the struggle in which our country is now engaged. It seems to me that those events have the prospect of being transforming many ways, good and bad, for our lives. One way is in the approach we as a people take towards our government and to the issue of public service. Let me talk about three aspects of this. The first is the question of the relationship between citizen and society in our country. It has always troubled me that in a generation, we went from a country where politicians proclaimed, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country," to one characterized by heated competition among people as to how we can have a better middle-class bill of rights, how we can have things that would be done not by the people of our country, but for the people of our country. It is not my point tonight to disparage any of the particular policy proposals that went under that banner But I was always profoundly troubled by that slogan "middle-class bill of rights" because of what it implied about the obligations of society to citizens, and the lack of obligations of citizens to society. I think the events of September 11 remind us that there are issues larger and more transcending than the issues we thought there were before September 11. Things we took for granted before September 11--the idea of progress and prosperity, the sense of our security--are now very much at risk. And as they come to be very much at risk, the imperative of service to society becomes all the more important. As I said here several weeks ago, the people whose job it was to run up the stairs in the World Trade Center on September 11 were public employees, paid for by--yes, let me
[CTRL] Open Letter to Corrupt Criminal Cabal
http://www.conspiracyplanet.com/channel.cfm?channelid=93contentid=355 Open Letter to Corrupt Criminal Cabal by ED SCHOOLING Open letter to the corrupt criminal cabal, and those conditioned dupes in CIA, ATF, DEA, FBI, LAPD, military, and other agencies: CIA DRUG RUNNING, GUN SMUGGLING, AND MUCH MORE The suspects who conduct the harassment toward whistleblowers will not change by us publishing this info (harassment) and pleading with them to understand that we are American patriots who love this country. It just shows a sign of weakness in their eyes on our part. No,I believe we need to say in response to harassment such as with interference with phone and email, etc. "So what ass. Keep it up... you will just make us more determined to keep up the battle for freedom, and someday you will get yours." What goes around - comes around is surely true. Nearly everyone one of the key people in LAPD (Los Angeles Police Dept.) who harassed me while on LAPD when I was blowing the whistle on illegal CIA drug running, gun smuggling, kidnapping of teen age girls, drugging them and forcing them to prostitute for VIPS aboard your yachts in Marina del Rey, California, crimes of murder, attempted murder of a police officer/detective, using Florida law enforcement in conspiracies to commit murder (whacking your own men) money laundering, bilking investors of savings and loans, and much more; those key LAPD supervisors and corrupt detectives got theirs in various ways. Such as one was beaten up badly in Hollywood while with his girlfriend, a few others were bilked out of about $100,000 by other corrupt white collar criminals, but that is what they get for accepting bribes from Mafia. Still others had their own marriage suffer badly when it was exposed (by me) they were using prostitutes at LAPD parties. Others who attended these parties were local FBI and DEA agents. Yes, I was there too...just to take all of your names for my later report! Hope I didn't cause you cops and agents too much anxiety. You should not spit into the wind...or have messed with me. What...oh yes I almost forgot that's when I received death threats from peers and superiors and the threat from one CIA operative... Let's see my transcript of those threats seems to indicate over thirty threats and by name! You ignorant fools could never figure out I was taping our conversations so many times. And for you good guy FBI agents, I thank two who will remain unnamed, who instructed me as to how to turn so called illegal evidence, including tape recordings, into legal evidence. Thanks, guys. It did work at least for part of my purposes. Regarding my many allegations, others, including very high officials, were at least forced to retire earlier than they had wanted...due to my allegations. Can you believe that one high official in LAPD had the audacity and was so ignorant, that he had flyers put up all over the city announcing his retirement party at a known Mafia hotel/restaurant! Someone eventually advised him to change it to somewhere else since I had already made allegations about LAPD officials covering up Mafia crime, naming various names including this official. I thank my honest immediate superiors who wrote in my annual rating reports that "He is second to no one in investigations." Wasn't that difficult to explain to the public when you (corrupt high officials) attempted to discredit me. I believe that I rattled some cages from LA to Washington, D.C., possibly as the most stubborn and tenacious flea on the dog's back. I don't regret anything. I only suffered for six years and then won my lifetime tax free disability pension along with six years back pay. I thank the ass for allowing me to pay cash for my farm/ranch after that six year wait, which woke me from my Robocop state! And no, neither Mike Rupert nor Mike Rothmiller of LAPD were crazy when they charged LAPD and CIA of being in bed together in running drugs internationally and other crimes. Nor were/are many other federal, state and local agents and detectives who have multitudes of evidence throughout America -- from LAPD to NYPD -- of the drug running and many other crimes by shadow government cabal inside CIA, FBI, ATF, and many other agencies with corrupt, conditioned cops. Thanks to LAPD rumor control that spread I was very dangerous, carried six guns and two hand grenades at all times - that rumor helped keep me alive. Hey guys, it was only two guns (not to mention what was in them) but sorry no grenades, and just one other very secret weapon and the best weapon of all...my brain! And thanks to the CIA, when trying to recruit me, for all of the valuable 'detailed' information I received in my weeks of instructions on becoming an expert international arms dealer. Could it be that when I finally refused to be one of you that you had be fired on trumped up charges. Did you really think I was that ignorant that I didn't know you planned to have

-Caveat Lector- Hello Tony - Apparently no news on this of which I am aware; however, I am wondering how these gauges would be used? As far as I know they are designed for use as control sources for comparison to leakage volumes (something akin to a chemical wheatstone bridge arangement ?). In the 'wrong hands' tho' I would think that their most lethal effect would be as pollutant, most likely within a cocktail of sorts. These particular thefts apparently involved the following rad contemt per guage: 40 millicuries of americium-241 and 8 millicuries of cesium-137. T. I am shocked that US military prevented one of our prominent Green Party members from attending the meeting in Chicago, said Elizabeth Fattah, a GPUSA representative from Pennsylvania who drove to Chicago. I am outraged at the way the Bill of Rights is being trampled upon. Chicago Green activist Lionel Trepanier concluded, The attack on the right of association of an opposition political party is chilling. The harassment of peace activists is reprehensible. [CTRL] Why is George Walker Bush so Pro-Israel ?
http://members.home.net/daru-salam/Bush-Israel.htm Why is George Walker Bush so Pro-Israel ? By Mohammed Alomari The key to seeing the level of the Israeli lobby's influence on the George Walker Bush (Bush Jr) Administration is watching the appointments of the following Israelis and pro-Israel Jewish advisors to posts in the White House or other Executive Branch Positions: Note: The Washington Institute for Near East Policy is the Israeli lobby's "think tank." Many of the Israeli lobby's "experts" come from this front group, like Martin Indyk. 1). Colin Powell-Secretary of State, ex-chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff, of Jamaican origin, he has one Jewish ancestor on his father's side. He grew up in a heavily Jewish-populated neighborhood in New York, and speaks Yiddish. The first day of being picked (12/16) he said he wanted to toughen sanctions on Iraq, and will work to "re-energize the sanctions regime." 2). Richard PerleOne of Bush's Foreign Policy Advisors. He is chairman of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board. He had worked as Bush's Jewish national security campaign advisor. A very likely Israeli agent, Perle was expelled from Senator Henry Jackson's office in the 1970's after the National Security Agency (NSA) caught him passing Highly-Classified (National Security) documents to the Israeli Embassy. He later worked for the Israeli weapons firm, Soltam. 3). Paul WolfowitzDeputy Defense Secretary, Bush's Jewish foreign policy campaign advisor, close associate of Israeli agent Richard Perle, and reportedly has close ties to the Israeli military. 4). Robert SatloffU.S. National Security Council Advisor, Satloff was the executive director of the Israeli lobby's "think tank," Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Many of the Israeli lobby's "experts" come from this front group, like Martin Indyk. 5). Dov ZekheimUnder Secretary of Defense and Comptroller. He was Bush's Jewish foreign policy advisor and reportedly holds Israeli citizenship. 6). Douglas FeithUnder Secretary of Defense and Policy Advisor at the Pentagon. He is a close associate of Perle and served as his Special Counsel. Like Perle and the others, Feith is a pro-Israel extremist, who has advocated anti-Arab policies in the past. He is closely associated with the extremist group, the Zionist Organization of America, which even attacks Jews that don't agree with its extremist views. Feith frequently speaks at ZOA conferences. Feith runs a small law firm, Feith and Zell, which only has one International office, in Israel. The majority of their legal work is representing Israeli interests. His firm's own website stated, prior to his appointment, that Feith "represents Israeli Armaments Manufacturer." Feith basically represents the Israeli War Machine. 7). Elliott Abrams-National Security Council Advisor. He previously worked at Washington-based "Think Tank" Ethics and Public Policy Center. During the Reagan Adminstration, Abrams was the Assistant Secretary of State, handling, for the most part, Latin American affairs. He played an important role in the Iran-Contra Scandal, which involved illegally selling U.S. weapons to Iran to fight Iraq, and illegally funding the contra rebels fighting to overthrow Nicaragua's Sandinista government. He also actively deceived three congressional committees about his involvement and thereby faced felony charges based on his testimony. Abrams pled guilty in 1991 to two misdemeanors and was sentenced to a year's probation and 100 hours of community service. A year later, former President Bush (Senior) granted Abrams a full pardon. He was one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the Reagan Administration's State Department. 8). Marc Grossman-Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. He was Director General of the Foreign Service and Director of Human Resources at the Department of State. Grossman is one of many of the Jewish officials from the Clinton Administration that Bush has promoted to higher posts. 9). Richard Haass-Director of Policy Planning at the State Department and Ambassador at large. He is also Director of National Security Programs and Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). He was one of the more hawkish pro-Israel Jews in the first Bush (Sr) Administration who sat on the National Security Council, and who consistently advocates bombing Iraq. 10). Henry Kissinger-One of many Pentagon Advisors, Kissinger sits on the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board. For detailed information about Kissinger's evil past, read Seymour Hersch's book. Kissinger had a part in the Watergate crimes, Southeast Asia mass murders, Chile dictatorship, and more recently served as Serbian Dictator Slobodan Milosevic's Advisor. He consistently advocates bombing Iraq. Kissinger is the Ariel Sharon of the U.S. 11). James Schlesinger-One of many Pentagon Advisors, Schlesinger also sits on the Pentagon's
[CTRL] Kissinger-Wolfowitz-Perle Warhawk Cabal a threat to World Peace
http://www.larouchepub.com/other/2001/2841wolfowitz.html Kissinger-Wolfowitz-Perle Warhawk Cabal is a threat to World Peace by, Michele Steinberg On Oct. 14, the London Observer published one of the now familiar -- and totally false -- propaganda scare stories, entitled "Iraq 'Behind U.S. Anthrax Outbreaks.' " The story gave credence to the ravings of "American hawks" who say there is "a growing mass of evidence that [Iraqi President] Saddam Hussein was involved, possibly indirectly, with the Sept. 11 suicide hijacks." If confirmed, said the Observer, "the pressure now building ... for an attack [on Iraq] may be irresistible." One of these "hawks," an unnamed U.S. "administration official," told the Observer that British Prime Minister Tony Blair is a "faithful ally" in the war against terrorism and that "if it means we are embarking on the next Hundred Years' War, then that's what we are doing" (emphasis added). The "next Hundred Year's War"? Who are the U.S. maniacs who use such language, and are they not as dangerous as Osama bin Laden's jihad? Here we will name the names of the fanatics in this anti-Iraq grouping who have become known as the "Wolfowitz cabal," named after Assistant Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz. According to the New York Times, which published a leak about their activities on Oct. 12, this grouping wants an immediate war with Iraq, believing that the targetting of Afghanistan, already an impoverished wasteland, falls far short of the global war that they are hoping for. But Iraq is just another stepping stone to turning the anti-terrorist "war" into a full-blown "Clash of Civilizations," where the Islamic religion would become the "enemy image" in a "new Cold War." The "Clash of Civilizations" theory, developed by Harvard professor-turned President Jimmy Carter's National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski and his protégés, including Harvard Prof. Samuel Huntington, defined the Arab and Islamic world as an "arc of crisis" from the Middle East to the Islamic countries of Central Asia in the then-Soviet Union. Brzezinski wanted to use the "Islamic card" against the Soviet Union, and in so doing, began the policy of promoting Islamic fundamentalists against moderate and pro-Western Arab and Islamic governments. After the end of the Cold War, the Brzezinski/Huntington crowd updated their "arc of crisis," declaring that the Islamic religion is the enemy, in a new war in which religions, rather than political systems, inevitably battle each other. However, trained by British and U.S. special intelligence services and the CIA, and armed by Israeli military networks, the very terrorist drug-runners in the Islamic world who were launched by Brzezinski and "adopted" by the Iran-Contra networks run by Lt. Col. Oliver North, under the elder George Bush's Executive Order 12333, have become the main suspects in terrorist attacks against the United States. A Network Throughout The Government The adherents of the so-called "Wolfowitz cabal," pushing the "Clash of Civilizations" theory, are nothing less than "an enemy within" the United States, a network that cuts across the Defense Department, the State Department, the White House, and the National Security Council. This report is not a "good guys" versus "bad guys" description of the Bush Administration; rather it is a warning that this cabal is a close-knit rogue network that is trying to hijack U.S. policy, and turn the current Afghanistan mess into a global war. The cabal bears a dangerous resemblance to the "secret parallel government" of North and Gen. Richard Secord's "Project Democracy" operation that ran Iran-Contra. In fact, some of the cabal members now in the Bush Administration are convicted criminals as a result of their activity in North's "Enterprise"! On Oct. 12, the New York Times revealed deep divisions in the Bush Administration, describing how the cabal plots policy behind the back of Cabinet officials, such as Secretary of State Colin Powell, in the name of the U.S. government. The group wants to obliterate Iraq, put Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat and the Palestinian Authority on the terrorism list (if not the obituary list), and declare war on nation-states. The Times revealed that a key section of the "Wolfowitz cabal," is the 18-member Defense Policy Board, which met for more than 19 hours on Sept. 19-20 to "make the case" against Saddam Hussein. The meeting pushed for a renewed war against Iraq as soon as the war against Afghanistan had concluded its initial phase. It discussed overthrowing Saddam Hussein, partitioning Iraq into mini-states led by U.S.-funded dissidents who would steal the proceeds from the Basra oil revenues for their quisling government. The meeting discussed how to manipulate information so as to pin the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States on Saddam Hussein. According to the Times, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld attended the meetings for only

[CTRL] Fwd: [ctrl] Critics Blast Bush Order on Papers
http://www.truthout.com/11.03A.Bush.Order.htm November 2, 2001 Critics Blast Bush Order on Papers By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Filed at 7:56 a.m. ET WASHINGTON (AP) -- One historian calls it a disaster for history, but the White House insists a new executive order issued by President Bush balances the public's right to see the records of past presidents with a need to protect national security. Advocates for the release of government documents say the executive order violates the spirit of the 1978 Presidential Records Act and will usher in a new era of secrecy for papers left behind by America's chief executives. The White House says the order simply sets up a procedure for implementing the act and gives former presidents more authority to claim executive privilege to withhold certain papers. Absent compelling circumstances, the incumbent president will agree with a former president's decision to disclose or withhold documents, the White House says. Bruce Craig, director of the National Coordinating Committee for the Promotion of History, claims the order is blatantly unlawful top to bottom. He predicted a quick legal challenge to the order, which probably will come up at a hearing Tuesday by a House Government Reform subcommittee. The hearing was scheduled for last month but was canceled in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terror attacks. Craig said that under the order, if a former president says certain papers are privileged, they will remain secret even if the sitting president disagrees. Conversely, if a sitting president says certain papers from a past administration are privileged, they will remain under wraps even if the former president disagrees. In the interest of keeping historical papers closed, the incumbent president can trump the wishes of a former president, says Craig, who claims the order is a disaster for history. In a letter, Bruce Lindsey, lawyer for the William J. Clinton Foundation, said the former president objects to Bush's executive order because laws already exist to restrict disclosure of sensitive documents, The Washington Post reported Friday. The act affects the presidential papers of Clinton, Bush's father, George H.W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan. It also applies to vice presidential papers, including those of former President Bush. Reagan's papers are the first governed by the Presidential Records Act, which followed Watergate and Richard Nixon's attempts to hold on to his papers and tape recordings. The act made presidential records the property of government, not ex-presidents. Some 68,000 pages of Reagan's White House records, including vice presidential papers from the elder Bush, were supposed to have been opened under the law in January, 12 years after Reagan left office. The White House delayed the release three times to review constitutional and legal questions, and Thursday's executive order resulted. White House counsel Alberto Gonzales defended Bush's executive order but did not say when the Reagan papers would be opened to the public. White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said the order provides a safety valve for a current administration. A former president, out of office for 12 years, might not recognize national security implications of releasing certain documents, he said. Fleischer emphasized that except in very compelling cases, if a former president were to say `That (document) should go out,' this administration would say, It should go out. Moreover, any claims of executive privilege, including those involving military, diplomatic or national security secrets, legal work or advice, presidential communications or the deliberative processes of the president and his advisers, can be appealed in court, Gonzales said. It will not be driven by politics or what looks good. It will driven by what is allowed under the Constitution, Gonzales said. Steven Aftergood, director of the Federation of American Scientists' government secrecy project, thinks the order will make it harder for the public to gain access to historically valuable presidential papers because both the former president and the incumbent must consent to disclosure. A private citizen will have little luck trying to persuade a court to overturn a claim of executive privilege, he said. When Joe Blow goes into court to overturn it, he's probably going to lose, Aftergood said. Some historians, including American University historian Anna Nelson, have suspected the Bush White House is worried about what the Reagan papers might reveal about officials now working for President Bush who also worked for Reagan. Among them are Secretary of State Colin Powell, Budget Director Mitch Daniels Jr. and White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card. Gonzales says that is not the reason. There may in fact be embarrassing documents, he said, but that would not be considered a legitimate reason to withhold something. Other historians suggest the White House is taking advantage

BUSH SUPPORTS ENRIQUE BOLANOS (blaring red) This November, Nicaragua will choose a new president. This decision rests where it should, in the hands of the Nicaraguan voting public. At the same time, we in Florida want the people of Nicaragua to know that they are not alone in making this decision. The elements which have made of Florida and the United States a place where exiles from diverse countries have found success - democracy, respect for law, transparency and confidence in public institutions - are being developed in many Latin American countries. Florida benefits when its neighbors adopt the successful formulas - free elections, open markets, the integrity of the public sector - which have produced such good results in our country. However, this formula for success is not automatic. Not everyone has the same commitment to these successful free institutions As I look at Latin America today, I'm reminded of the motto which is written above the entrance to the US National Archives: The Past Is Prologue. The past is without doubt the key indicator of the future. In a world which has been transformed during the last decade through political and economic openings, it is inconceivable that a people would choose to return to a totalitarian past. The past and present of Daniel Ortega clearly indicate that he neither understands nor accepts the basic principles of freedom, democracy and the free market. Some say he has changed, that the years out of power have convinced him of the necessity for genuine democracy, for open markets, and for the maintaining of good relations with his neighbors and with the United States. This is what Ortega would want us to believe. Daniel Ortega is an enemy of everything the United States represents. Further, he is a friend of our enemies. Ortega has a relationship of more than 30 years with states and individuals who shelter and condone international terrorism. By contrast Enrique Bolanos is a man whose past promises a future of freedom. I knew him for the first time fifteen years ago, before the end of the Cold War, when freedom was not yet secured in many parts of the world. He spoke with clarity of purpose and with precision about the importance of democracy, of the free market, and of the absolute necessity to have a public sector with integrity. He not only spoke about these ideas but also defended them valiantly in the hostile and repressive climate created by the Sandinistas. Thanks to this experience, I can say that Enrique Bolanos will be an excellent leader for Nicaragua. To construct democracy is not easy. It puts a leader's commitment to the test as well as his will to hold to the true path. This is why Latin America needs people whose valorous past points to a promising future. Latin America needs leaders like Enrique Bolanos, people whose history shows a commitment to the construction of prosperous economies and solid democracies which are the necessary base for reinforcing bonds of brotherhood with Florida, just as with the whole United States of America. Who Were Those 6 Israeli Passports on Their Way to Florida's Nuke Plants? source - Peter Bell [EMAIL PROTECTED] [The intel rakefight between the French and the CIA is one of the lead stories in tonight's Guardian. According to the French, Osama bin Badboy needed a good hospital this past summer. Since his several construction projects in Afghanistan have apparently not included a decent hospital, he went to the American hospital in Dubai. There he was met by a Saudi intel chief - since fired by the Saudis - and by two of Langley's finest. The French report is pretty specific: a CIA weasel, possibly the local Chief of Station, was seen on an elevator headed up to Osama's floor. And bragged about the meet. Shortly afterwards, he was recalled to Washington - for a vigorous caning, I suppose. Of course, Langley is denying all of this, and the hospital is denying bin Badboy was a patient. In a new twist, if we don't go in and find Osama, Le Figaro is related in the Guardian as saying bin Badboy's got a life expectancy of perhaps two years or so due to an advanced hepatitis C infection. So advanced he's had his own dialysis unit brought into Afghanistan. If he dies on his own terms, of course, the mighty US military machine is going to need a good dose of Viagra to appear even marginally potent. The rakefight here in the US is going strong as well. In a story I don't know if we'll see Stateside, the Guardian is reporting why, exactly, we went to high alert earlier this week: two carloads totaling six middle eastern gents were stopped in the Midwest this past week. They had pictures and plans of the Alaska pipeline and of nuclear plants in Florida. The gents were carrying Israeli passports; they were checked with the INS who said we're fine with those passport numbers. The INS apparently did not say, and the donut humpers did not think, to call the FBI and discuss it with them as well. So all six of these fellows with the Real Interesting Travel Plans were told to be on their way! At around this time, the Canadians passed on a message supposedly from Al-Quaida's Canadian field office to the HQ in Afghanistan HQ reporting that something fun was planned for down south in the coming week. http://www.alternet.org/story.html?StoryID=11850 Colombia: Patterson and Graham Play the Terrorism Card Philip Smith, DRCNet November 2, 2001 Even as Congress grows increasingly queasy about the US drug war adventure in Colombia -- the Senate last week voted to slash President Bush's Andean counter-drug budget by 22 percent -- Bush administration officials and congressional drug war diehards are turning up the terrorist rhetoric in an effort to strengthen their cause. Senator Bob Graham (D-FL), chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, pleaded with his colleagues to vote for more Colombia aid because the Andean nation is one of the theaters in the global battle against terrorism. A very discouraged and disappointed Graham told the Miami Herald after the vote that the counter-drug program in Colombia should be broadened to include anti-terrorist activities. Speaking at a luncheon last week, Graham elaborated. Some 500 acts of terrorism were committed against US citizens or economic interests last year, he said. Of those almost 500 incidents, 44 percent were in one country. Was that country Egypt? No. Israel? No. Afghanistan? Hardly a tick. Forty-four percent were in Colombia, Graham explained. That's where the terrorist war has been raging. Graham must have been heartened by US Ambassador to Colombia Anne Patterson's announcement last week that the Bush administration plans to provide Colombia with counter-terrorist aid as part of the new US war on terrorism. Patterson told the Associated Press that Washington plans to help Colombia guard (US-owned) oil pipelines, assist civilian and military counter-terror investigators, and train and equip elite anti-kidnapping and bomb squads. Colombia has 10 percent of the terrorist groups in the world, according to our [State Department] list, Patterson told the AP. Patterson did not discuss how she defines terrorist groups, vs. insurgencies or armed national liberation movements, or how one might differentiate one from the other. There's no question we are now focusing more on terrorism in Colombia, Patterson explained. Certainly, September 11 has enabled us to do more of these kind of things, she added, referring to broader assistance to the Colombian state. Another one of these kinds of things that Patterson has in mind is to attempt to extradite and try Colombian guerrillas and paramilitaries on drug trafficking or money laundering charges in the US. We have focused our attention on all types of international organized crime, including money laundering, she told a conference on the topic in Cartagena. Drug traffickers have faced extradition to the US in the past, but the US has never previously attempted to criminalize participation in Colombia's civil war. Now, in the name of the war on terrorism, the Bush administration is preparing to turn up the heat on the Colombian pressure cooker. [CTRL] Fwd: [ctrl] ANTI-GLOBALIST RESISTANCE BEYOND LEFT AND RIGHT
http://english.pravda.ru/usa/2001/11/03/20022.html ANTI-GLOBALIST RESISTANCE BEYOND LEFT AND RIGHT: AN EMERGING TREND THAT IS DEFINING A NEW PARADIGM IN REVOLUTIONARY STRUGGLE If I told you I thought the world was controlled by a handful of capitalists and corporate bosses, you would say I was a left-winger, an anarchist black blocker told PRAVDA.Ru at a recent demonstration against the Afghanistan War. But if I told you who I though the capitalists and corporate bosses were, youd say I was far right, the bandana-clad youth added with a wink. The masked gutter punk was not alone. His perspective -- a broad blend of left-wing socialism and far-right nationalist and libertarian views has been slowly infiltrating both extremes of the political spectrum, particularly in the anti-globalist movement, and has been leading to a new synthesis of doctrine beyond left and right that is coalescing around a number of tendencies national anarchism, social nationalism, national bolshevism that some are calling the fastest growing ideological movement on the fringe. Though significantly divergent in their beliefs, these ideologies are at the core of what is being called the Third Position a collection of radical anti-capitalist, anti-globalist and anti-imperialist views that that are outspoken in their rejection of the corporate state, of social democracy, of Marxism, and of Zionism. But just as these ideologies are gaining more adherents, they are also becoming the target of more disinformation, as the extreme Old Left-ists of the anti-globalist movement call conferences to attack these ideas, and as the self-righteous defenders of neo-liberalism try to force these doctrines square peg into their round hole of hate and fascism. Decadence is fighting back, but as the proponents of these ideas steadily resist being labeled as far right by the defenders of the neo-liberal corporate-socialist status quo, the globalist power structure has found itself in a boxing match with a body of water. ORIGIN -- THE OPPOSITION TO HITLER Two million Germans have been or still are guests in the cells of the Gestapo, or are or have been familiar with the delights of Dachau, Buchenwald, or Oranienburg. These two million have parents, wives, children. In other words, about ten million human beings have suffered personally from Hitlers methods. The German people are said to be entirely devoted to [their] Fuehrer. No[!] The German people want a German revolution [they] want liberty at home [they] want liberty abroad [they] want peace in Germany, peace in Europe, and peace in the world. -- Otto Strasser, Hitler and I (1940) Fascism and national socialism have been presented by the bourgeois media and those phony independent and extremist political movements that want mainstream acceptability as monolithic doctrines that governed entire countries with the unanimous consent of their people. Zionist writers have turned these representations into entire schools of thought that label whole races and classes of people Germans or Swiss bankers for example as haters or anti-Semites, holding all national or group aspirations of those people as inherently suspect, and inflicting collective punishment both on those people and their descendents in the form of endless reparations for crimes that may or may not have occurred. This kind of racial and ethnic reductionism, in alliance with the mindless nihilistic hatred of slogan-shouting Marxist and Trotskyist socialism, has clouded and obscured any real understanding of the ideological tendencies within the anti-communist and anti-liberal socialist movements that developed in Europein the early part of the 20th Century. From this ignorance has sprung the inability of the liberal-capitalist / state-socialist left to respond to the re-emergence of these doctrines in the early 21st Century. In the struggle to come to terms with the anti-Monarchical, Bolshevist and capitalist tendencies that swept across Eurasia like the black plague, the finest minds of Europe developed ideologies which, though semantically similar to their ruling class cousins, were radically opposed to the kind of bourgeois pragmatism which catapulted leaders like Hitler and Mussolini into the seats of government. These thinkers, like Otto Strasser, who led the remnant of the left-wing of the National Socialists in revolt against Hitler after the 1934 [check] purges, and Julius Evola, who lorded over Mussolini in his own country and who was banned from lecturing in Germany because of his seditious doctrine, have been largely ignored in the Western world until recently, as the struggle between Bolshevik communism and American centralized-capitalism dominated for fifty years the international political landscape. With the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the collapse of America into imperial overstretch and ideological decay, the thinkers of the world have been
[CTRL] Fwd: [ctrl] Divided We Stand
Victor David Hanson: Divided we stand http://www.nationalreview.com/hanson/hanson102601.shtml Those in the media seemed startled to see Richard Gere and Senator Clinton roundly booed at a recent benefit concert for the victims of September 11. Gere clearly earned his opprobrium, by smugly lecturing the audience - among them relatives and close friends of the dead - about the immorality of their desire to punish the murderers. Mrs. Clinton may have been hissed because the politics of her husband's administration projected national weakness and timidity, which prompted these attacks. Or perhaps concertgoers remembered some of her hare-brained pronouncements about her own purported victimhood during the health-care debate, when she was bothered by angry callers. Or maybe New Yorkers in general were just fed up with her past coziness with Palestinian leaders. Or was it that the crowd believed that Gere and Clinton live in a different world from their own? There is a growing class division in this country over the war. Of course, 90 percent of us, of all classes, at least for now profess support for strong military action. Yet at least a tenth of the country - a very influential tenth in the media, the university, politics, foundations, churches, and the arts - is adamantly and vocally at odds with most Americans. Why is this so? It is often not a divide between Democrats and Republicans. Nor does the abyss always separate the wealthy from the poor. Most strikingly, the fault line pits a utopian cultural elite against the working middle class. On campuses, especially public universities such as the California State University system, one feels the tension constantly. The tenured, well educated, and relatively affluent among the faculty are adamantly against the military response in Afghanistan. Yet the students - mostly children of the working-class of every conceivable ethnic background - almost uniformly support our troops. Similarly, I watch the well-heeled upper echelon on television chastising our government and then see my twin brother - with decrepit pickup truck, fighting the lowest agricultural prices since the Great Depression, losing an ancestral small farm to the bank - proudly driving in and out with a tattered flag flying from his truck antenna. Recent emigrants in Selma, my hometown - which is now nearly 85 percent Mexican-American - have plastered fresh American decals over faded Mexican flags. Yet when I come to work, professors, who have done far better in America, suggest that our classes should now read Edward Said to understand the crisis in its proper prospective. Those who are not thriving in America seem incensed by attacks on their country, while the beneficiaries of this wonderful system of freedom and capitalism are cranky - like angry puppies who gnaw and chew at their mother's ample teats. The usual explanations about the sociology of dissent do not quite make sense any more. So far, those who are fighting in Afghanistan - mostly highly trained pilots and special-forces operatives - are not from among the unwashed poor. The affluent Left, then, is not opposed to action because the less-privileged are dying in droves. Is it because the better educated are more sensitive to world opinion? To the nuances of Islam? To the Other in Afghanistan, who are not male WASPs? To the vagaries of the European press? Perhaps. Perhaps not. Rather, I think fashionable anti-Americanism and pacifism have now become completely aristocratic pursuits, the dividends of limited experience with the muscular classes and the indulgence such studied distance breeds. Our pampered critics may be as clever as Odysseus, but they have lost his nerve, strength, and sense of morality. And so they have neither the ability nor desire to ram a hot stake into the eye of the savage Cyclops to save their comrades. ... Our new smug aristocrats are convinced that the Taliban and bin Laden are akin to an angry news producer, a supercilious dean, or perhaps a high school vice-principal run amok - pushy types who can be reasoned with or flattered, or, barring that, paid off, out-argued, petitioned, or ignored. Theirs is the arrogance of the Enlightenment, fueled by the ease of American materialism, which alike suggest that their nation is too good, too sophisticated, too wealthy, and too modern ever to stoop to fight in the gutter with 13th-century terrorists over a mere 6,000 dead. Cannot the hateful gaze of fascists in the Middle East - like those of the crazed road-warriors on the freeway, or wild-eyed thugs on the train home - be simply avoided? Or reported to the authorities? Or - in extremis - reasoned with in polite give-and-take? Would a man or woman with ample free time, a title, and a nice car and house - America's critics circa 2001 - risk all that to tangle with a psychopath who has nothing to lose? And over what?

Bonacci v. Lawrence E. King, a civil action in which the plaintiff charged that he had been ritualistically abused by the defendant, as part of a nationwide pedophile ring linked to powerful political figures in Washington and to elements of the U.S. military and intelligence establishment. Three weeks later, on February 27, Judge Warren K. Urbom ordered King, who is currently in Federal prison, to pay $1 million in damages to Bonacci, in what Bonacci's attorney John DeCamp said was a clear signal that the evidence presented was credible. During the February 5 hearing, Noreen Gosch stunned the court with sworn testimony linking U.S. Army Lt. Col. Michael Aquino (ret.) to the nationwide pedophile ring. Her son, Johnny, then 12 years old, was kidnapped off the streets of West Des Moines, Iowa on September 5, 1982, while he was doing his early-morning newspaper deliveries. Since his kidnapping, she has devoted all of her time and resources to finding her son, and to exposing the dangers that millions of children in American face from this hideous, literally Satanic underground of ritualistic deviants. We have investigated, we have talked to so far 35 victims of this said organization that took my son and is responsible for what happened to Paul, and they can verify everything that has happened, she told the court. What this story involves is an elaborate function, I will say, that was an offshoot of a government program. The MK-Ultra program was developed in the 1950s by the CIA. It was used to help spy on other countries during the Cold War because they felt that the other countries were spying on us. It was very successful. They could do it very well. Then, the Aquino bombshell: Well, then there was a man by the name of Michael Aquino. He was in the military. He had top Pentagon clearances. He was a pedophile. He was a Satanist. He's founded the Temple of Set. And he was a close friend of Anton LaVey. The two of them were very active in ritualistic sexual abuse. And they deferred funding from this government program to use [in] this experimentation on children. Where they deliberately split off the personalities of these children into multiples, so that when they're questioned or put under oath or questioned under lie detector, that unless the operator knows how to question a multiple-personality disorder, they turn up with no evidence. She continued: They used these kids to sexually compromise politicians or anyone else they wish to have control of. This sounds so far out and so bizarre I had trouble accepting it in the beginning myself until I was presented with the data. We have the proof. In black and white. Under questioning from DeCamp, Gosch reported: I know that Michael Aquino has been in Iowa. I know that Michael Aquino has been to Offutt Air Force Base [a Strategic Air Command base, near Omaha, which was linked to King's activities]. I know that he has had contact with many of these children. Paul Bonacci, who was simultaneously a victim and a member of the nationwide pedophile crime syndicate, has subsequently identified Aquino as the man who ordered the kidnapping of Johnny Gosch. In his February 5 testimony, Bonacci referred to the mastermind of the Gosch abduction as the Colonel. A second witness who testified at the February 5 hearing, Rusty Nelson, was King's personal photographer. He later described to EIR another incident which linked King to Aquino, while the Army special forces officer was still on active reserve duty. Some time in the late 1980s, Nelson was with King at a posh hotel in downtown Minneapolis, when he personally saw King turn over a suitcase full of cash and bearer-bonds to the Colonel, who he later positively identified as Aquino. According to Nelson, King told him that the suitcase of cash and bonds was earmarked for the Nicaraguan Contras, and that the Colonel was part of the covert Contra support apparatus, otherwise associated with Lt. Col. Oliver North, Vice President George Bush, and the secret parallel government that they ran from the White House. Just who is Lt. Col. Michael Aquino (ret.), and what does the evidence revealed in a Nebraska court hearing say about the current state of affairs inside the U.S. military? Is the Aquino case some kind of weird aberration that slipped off the

Fear is a prison when we don't look directly at it, when we try not to feel it. I would be lying to you if I told you I wasn't afraid. As I have said, I do not know if there is a reason to be afraid. Until this is investigated, no one will know for sure what has happened. However, if there is truth that elements of our highest levels of government were somehow responsible for what happened on 9-11, then we are obviously dealing with some very ruthless people. However, when I read Michael Ruppert's report on the insider trading stock profit off the 9-11 terrorist attack I felt a great empathy for just how lonely and frightened he must be feeling to have written such a story. The U.S. Marines have a vow to never leave anyone behind. I suggest that it is time for people of goodwill to find such bravery in their hearts at this time in American history. When Michael Ruppert sticks his neck out to write this story, and people like me stick our necks out to get the story out despite mainstream media's self-censorship . . . you have a choice. You can distribute this information as widely as you can as fast as you can . . . or you can leave us behind as you huddle for safety, leaving us dangling on the rope. I have had several people write or call and say I just want to thank you for the good work you are doing in getting this information out. But, when I ask them to help get it out, they have said they are afraid. I can understand that fear, but I cannot say I accept it as an excuse not to act. If we do not hold this country in the full light of day . . . what is it worth? The answer would be . . . nothing. Our inaction is the darkest of acts at this crucial time. We are at a moment of truth in American history, perhaps just as profound as our Founding Fathers faced. They stood up against their own government because they realized it was not serving their best interests any longer. I'm sure they felt terror. I RENOUNCE violence in any form. I am an American patriot. I consider myself a soldier of truth, and I do believe as the Bible tells us that the truth shall set us free. I implore you all to break through the fear that is turning your hearts to ice, and take the Activist Kit I have created for you to use. Dedicate yourself in the coming days, weeks, and months to spreading it out to as many people, bulletin boards, listserves, organizations, government officials and media as you can. If there is truth in the reports, our only hope as a nation is to force our media and government to look with open eyes at the truth, whatever that truth is. And every email sent and message faxed and announcement made to shine light on this issue makes us safer. The larger the ocean of demands for inquiry into this gets, the safer all of us are. This is what is required of an American patriot at this time in history. Now we must ask ourselves, are we a patriot? If you need me to resend you the Activist Kit with news reports (with URL sources) on the CIA connection to the insider trading investment house, the ABCNews.com story on the US Joint Chiefs actually designing plans to commit terror in America, and the Fax numbers and Email addresses of all Democratic Senators and House Members - email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and put SEND KIT in Subject Line, and I'll send it right out. Re: [CTRL] US bombing obliterates village
-Caveat Lector- Dear list, Please find the url and excerpts below. Sincerely, Neil This may be heavy for survivors of abuse. excerpts from http://www.dawn.com/2001/11/02/int1.htm Merciless US bombing obliterates village: 60 killed CHOKAR KARAIZ Nov 1: Rubble and fresh graves marked with the flags of martyrs are all that remains of this tiny Afghan village after US bombing killed at least 60 people, survivors said Thursday. Locals said about 20 villagers survived attacks on October 19 and 20, when wave after wave of US jets pounded the community with heavy bombs and cannon fire, destroying everything in sight. Foreign reporters brought here by the Taliban militia saw the devastation first-hand: every house had been flattened and huge craters could be seen in the surrounding fields. The US-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) said Tuesday that based on interviews with survivors in hospital in Quetta in neighbouring Pakistan, up to 35 civilians were killed in the attack here, which it said took place on October 22. There has been no formal comment from the Pentagon on the attack here, but US officials have dismissed Taliban's claims that more than 1,500 Afghan civilians have died in the bombing. The Taliban earlier took foreign journalists to see another village which they claimed had been destroyed in a US attack on October 8, a day after the airstrikes began in retaliation for the Islamic militia's alliance with alleged terrorist Osama bin Laden. Witnesses said that Kadam village, 40 kilometres west of the eastern town of Jalalabad, appeared to have been destroyed but could not confirm residents' claims that up to 160 people had been killed.-AFP A HREF=http://www.ctrl.org/;www.ctrl.org/A DECLARATION DISCLAIMER == CTRL is a discussion informational exchange list.
