Joe Maine Legislator Proposes Deposit on Cig Butts Friday, February 16 Yes. A wonderful idea! However, it clearly does not go far enough. We need a deposit on tissues also. Used tissues litter the roadways. Uncaring people blow their noses - and toss the used tissues away...on the roads, sidewalks, even buses, trains and planes. 5 cents a tissue seems reasonable to me. Blow your nose and put it in your pockettake it back to the store for your 5 cent deposit. Not only will this clean up our countryside but will give the homeless and bored teenages something to do to make a few extra bucks. They can scour the countryside and pick up used tissues, earn some money, and do some social good in the process. On the other hand, lets address the REAL PROBLEM which is toilet paper. Tons of used toilet paper are flushed into our waterways every day!! Obviously 5 cents a sheet is a reasonable deposit for toilet paper. When I saw this article it made me think what could happen if the ecology pukes got hold of this idea -- next thing you know there would be a "tax" on fast-food wrappings and your BigMac would cost an extra dime, not to mention all those soda cups, even the yuppies would have to pay more for their milk with coffee in it and their coffee with chocolate in it. Then if the gun confiscation pukes took this idea we would have deposits on shell casings and maybe even the bullet itself ... can't have all those lead projectiles laying arond everywhere.
